Title: Relativities of Alkyl Halides in Nucleophilic Substitution Reactions
Introduction:
The purpose of this lab was to perform a comparison of relative reactivities of various alkyl halides
with two different reagents, sodium iodine in acetone and silver nitrate in ethanol. (Below are the
reaction equations). We used different substrates, which were primary, secondary, and tertiary.
These substrates included 2 bromobutane, 2 bromo 2 methylpropane, 1 bromobutane в€

Bromotoluene, bromobenzene, and I bromoadamantane. This lab helped discover what kind of
mechanisms (either SN1 or SN2) are involved in the performed reactions. 1. Sodium Iodine in

Characteristics Of The Unsung Heroes
Straughn 1 Mi esha Straughn Dr. Willis 2 October 2017 ENG 101/102 Mini Term The Unsung
Heroes Superheroes, astronauts, actors, and princesses are among the answers given when
children are asked their desired professions. As they grow up, however, they begin to solidify
legitimate professions to support themselves and be happy. Growing up, I knew for a fact that I
wanted to be a detective. The idea of solving real cases with real people and interviewing
suspects gave me a rush like no other. Helping people has always been a goal of mine. From
being a detective, I have also contemplated being a dental hygienist, cosmetologist (like my
mother), and even a history teacher. The variety of occupations in the world are almost never
ending; there are even jobs that no one has really even thought about. Even though I occasionally
change my mind, I have decided to give up my childhood dream of becoming a detective to
become a registered nurse (RN). The nursing profession has continued to thrive over time. Because
I have seen how often nurses get overlooked, I want to be a part of a profession that knows its
worth, learns more than just education, and is beneficial to society. Although they are the unsung
heroes of hospitals, schools, and even the military, nurses are essential to communities around the
world, and I look forward to entering this profession. The nursing major is a popular choice for
many people entering college. This profession continues to grow because of numerous

Ethical Behavior At Rocky University
Ethical Behavior at Rocky University Ethical behavior should be expected from college
students; however, it is not always present. There is a moral obligation for students, earning a
degree, that they are in fact the ones doing the homework and tests. The prevalence of online
institutions has helped enable a multitude of working individuals earn a degree. Without the
classroom setting, it is arduous for a professor to ensure who is on the other end of the keyboard
and monitor. In fact, Gopala, Paswan, and Qin (2015) stated that regarding online classes and
degree programs, as a component of distant learning initiatives, have attracted a lot of attention
from educational institutions, administrators, policymakers, and society at large. According to
results of Pew Research Center 2011 Surveys, about 23 percent of college graduates have taken
online courses (p. 67). Rocky University has conducted a survey asking 90 of its students
whether or not he or she may have cheated on any assignments. Rocky University is interested in
comparing itself with other Universities as well as setting a benchmark of its own situation. The
following will enable the reader to understand just where Rocky stands after the results of the
survey are tallied. Overview of the Rocky University Survey The data analyzed herein, were
gathered from 90 of Rocky University students. There were 46 female respondents and 44 male

The Psychological Factors Of Coca-Cola s Advertising Campaign
When it comes to mass marketing, perhaps no one does it better than Coca Cola. Coca Cola is
successful in its recent advertising campaign Share a Coke . The main target audience of this
advertising campaign are teens and young adults. [Creamglobal.com, 2015] Coca Cola had
replaced its logo on the cans with the personal names of its customers. With that, those customers
were asked to share the customised Coca Cola bottles on social media platforms such as
Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. The offering of affordable personalised products that happened
in both the virtual and real world is what makes the campaign so successful. In today s society,
many youths wished to be special and unique. They would love to have customized or
personalized products. Taking these psychological factors into consideration, Coca Cola put
emphasis on personalization and bring a sense of ownership of the brand to its consumers. It also
engages consumers and encourages them to share the special moments with their families and
friends. As a result, Coca Cola has successfully strengthened the emotional ties with its consumers
by triggering their feelings. Coca Cola believed early on that to gain worldwide acceptance, it
needed to connect emotionally and socially with the masses and be at arm s length with everyone.
This shows that Coca Cola values the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Health Care Policies Across Different Countries
Healthcare can be defined as the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, injury, illness, and
other physical and mental impairments that human beings may have. The healthcare system is
made up of an organization of trained people that have resources to deliver health care services to
meet the needs of the target population. Health care is practiced by licensed individuals in medicine,
nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and other health professions. Access to healthcare is different
depending on the country and is largely influenced by its culture, political system and pre existing
health policies. With japan being the country of choice, its healthcare history, political system, and
culture will be compared to the United States system, history, and culture.
There are many different types of health insurances policies across different countries. Japan is
located at the eastern edge of the Asian continent. In japan, they are all covered by their
governments adoption of universal health insurance. Universal Health Insurance, or Universal
Health coverage, is a healthcare system that provides health insurance and financial protection to all
citizens that reside in that particular country. It ensures that all people can use the promotive,
preventative, rehabilitative, and curative health services that they need while also making sure that
using these services will not create a financial problem, so all of the expenses are covered by the
government. For a country to obtain

It started out as required community service. Fifty hours of required community service for four
years. The odd times I helped out in my school s pre K led to an opportunity to volunteer in the
after school program for kids every weekday, and that became my plan for almost every day of my
high school career. In my first year of high school, I took a mandatory course called Freshman

That day, my teacher told the class about a mom of five kids who attended our school and had
suddenly died from an aneurysm. My school is small, but I didn t recognize the name. I thought

Fine Furniture Case Summary
Fine Furniture, Inc. and Jaguar Interiors both agreed to terms of a sales contract. A contract
involves two or more parties promising to perform an action in exchange for consideration.
Consideration is what each party receives in return for each party s promise in the contract. In
this example, a sale of goods was involved. A sale means that the seller is passing title, or
ownership, of the goods to the buyer for a price. Goods are physical items that can be moved at
the time of identification to the contract. In this scenario, Fine Furniture, Inc., a furniture
manufacturer, offered to sell 1,000 dining room chairs to a buyer, Jaguar Interiors, for the price of
$100,000. The sale of goods is the proposed offer of 1,000 dining room chairs for $100,000 in...

to drive, the check fell out of her pocketbook and onto the street. A gust of wind sent the check
onto the street corner and an anonymous woman picked it up. Later that day, the woman cashed
the check at a different Bank of the Homeland. After four weeks, Nora noticed that the check was

wants the $542 from the paycheck to be credited to her checking account. The vice president says
that she will look into it and unfortunately for Nora, does not guarantee a resolution to the

and this does grant her rights and freedom, from defenses such as fraud in the inducement in the
underlying contract, illegality, and duress. However, this does not mean that the bank is liable in this

Arcadia by Tom Stoppard Shows The Dangers and Chaos and...
While Arcadia by Tom Stoppard is a play that intertwines a lot of humor with mathematical and
scientific reasoning, it also conveys a message regarding the dangers and chaos of absolute
knowledge. Much of what occurs in Acadia relates to the article The Dangers of Certainty: A
Lesson From Auschwitz written Simon Critchley. In today s modern society, Stoppard s play is
about why scientists proceed in researching concepts that yield nothing; it is about why people
associate themselves with endearment in face of the disruption that it can cause. The characters in
the play struggle, and often fail in their attempts for certainty, falling into irritation with others.
Humans, by nature, are constantly seeking definite answers; a mentality that allows one to address
an issue, find a solution, and continue on. Humans have a hard time accepting that, sometimes,
there are things for which one will never have a definite answer. As the author, Simon Critchley,
states, Insisting on certainty, by contrast, leads ineluctably to arrogance and dogma based on
ignorance. This can be seen in many instances throughout the play, where many of the characters
grow very irritated; Bernard, for instance, tries to prove his theory that Byron killed Ezra Chater.
In his attempt, he grows ineluctably arrogant, especially when he finds that he is indeed wrong,
and fails at his quest for certainty: Fucked by dahlia! Do you think? Is it open and shut? Am i
fucked? What does it really amount to? When

Stephen As A Fan Of Lord Byron s Poetry
Stephen s dissent to religious ideologies began while he was attending his first year at Belvedere
College. He was accused of heresy by Mr. Tate, the English master. While in class, Mr. Tate
accused Stephen of heresy, and Stephen knew his essay contained heresy because he, did not
look up. [...] He was conscious of failure and detection [...] (Joyce, 69) After opening Stephen s
essay to find the heresy in question, Mr. Tate proclaimed, Ah! without a possibility of ever
approaching nearer. That s heresy, to which Stephen mumbled, I meant without a possibility of
ever reaching (Joyce, 69). Stephen s intentional act of heresy points to his religious dissent.
Stephen is also a fan of Lord Byron s poetry. One night while walking, Stephen s classmates
began to discuss their favorite poets when one of the boys said that Lord Tennyson was his
favorite. At this Stephen forgot the silent vows he had been making and burst out: Tennyson a
poet! Why, he s only a rhymester! (Joyce, 71) They dismissed Stephen s claims and asked him
who he believes is the best poet, and Stephen said, Byron, of course (Joyce, 71). They all laughed
at Stephen s response and claimed that Byron was a poet for the uneducated people. Stephen
fervently defended his answer and was accused of being a heretic and immoral, like Byron
(Joyce, 71). Byron was viewed as a heretic by many people in the 19th century. Like Milton,
Byron topic of choice was religion, and his writing forced people to actively question

Persuasive Argument For Adoption
Most couples, or even single parents don t even consider the option of adoption, due to the fact that
they want a child of their own, or with their significant other. So, they will look into all the fancy
technology and try getting pregnant that way before ever considering adoption. Most individuals
think that adoptionis expensive and refer to adoption as their last resort. However, adoption is not
near as expensive as Artificial Insemination, Pre Seed, and several other fertility treatments.
According to the Children s Action Network, adopting children from foster carecan be virtually free.
Many agencies do not charge for the services they provide to families who are adopting a child
from foster care. In addition, a growing number of companies and government agencies offer
adoption assistance as part of their employee benefits packages, including time off for maternity
/paternity leave, financial incentives, and other benefits. Congress has also made federal tax
credits available for foster care adoptions to help offset required fees, court costs, and legal and
travel expenses. In 2012, the maximum federal tax credit for qualifying expenses was $12,170.
These types of benefits enable more families to adopt children from foster care into their homes,
(Studios). With this being said, it should encourage couples, or even single individuals to want to
adopt a child to fill that void that they have making them happy as well as giving the child a
forever home. When

The Theme Of Religion In Hamlet
Hamlet by William Shakespeare, in the Elizabethan Era, is a play that is expressed with many
themes. Hamlet, the main character, battles with the tragic death of his father and the marriage of
his mother and uncle. Hamlet is then approached by a ghost that closely resembles his father and
reveals the murder of the late king. He then goes on a quest for revenge, hesitating at every turn
and pretending to have gone mad. He spends time rejecting the love of Ophelia until her untimely
death. At that time he then goes to duel her brother, of whom he is jealous, in a fencing match.
There the intentions of the characters are revealed in the death of Laertes, Gertrude, Hamlet, and
Claudius. Throughout the play religion takes a big part in the decisions of the characters along
with their faith. In the 1500s to 1600s religion practices were an enormous issue leading to the
deaths of many. These events happened in the Thirty Years War as well

Even under the same government, the people of Europe had divided beliefs. This follows the
theme of religion that is seen in Hamlet. In the play they had their own beliefs and traditions in the
castle of Elsinore in Denmark. When the new king, Claudius, was crowned and Hamlet had
decided to stay at Elsinore, Claudius had taken to the traditions of drinking and the firing of
cannons. A tradition of which Hamlet had not cared for; the way Martin Luther did not care for the
teaching of the Catholic Church. They both felt as if other things were more appropriate. The
people of Europe followed the teaching of the Catholic Church and the bible. They chose their
actions and feelings based on those faith. They took to buying indulgences in the belief that they
would spend less time in purgatory. Hamlet also shared that ideology of purgatory. His beliefs are
confirmed when he meets the ghost of his late father. The ghost reveals about his afterlife

Challenges Of China Resource Corporation
The most significant challenges China Resource Corporation faced prior to 6S were government
intervention, over diversification, lack of strategy, lack of centralized reporting, and short term
focused managers. New policies in the economy during the late 70s under Deng ended CRC s
monopoly for China s trade. The introduction of special economic zones (SEZs) and joint venture
partnerships reduced CRCs value position as the mediator, as it was no longer necessary for firms
to work thru CRC to access the goods and benefits. CRCs broadening of interests and portfolio
diversification grew rapidly due to the loss of its monopoly. The expansion of investments caused
overinvestment and overcapacity which cut into returns and it became evident that the company s
assets and operations were poorly controlled and too diverse. Even with improved operations
through cutting offices and unprofitable companies as well as improved financial management,
CRC subsidiaries remained separated with little centralized reporting or integration into the
corporate strategy. Many of the companies were opportunity driven rather than strategic and the
quality of performance assessment, reporting, and management varied significantly across the
subsidiaries, making it challenging for managers to see and address each company s opportunities.
Managers were more concerned with hitting yearly benchmarks than long term strategy. Utilizing
6S, Jiang Wei was trying to address the business profitability and long

Niccolo Machiavelli Characteristics
Niccolo Machiavelli and The Prince
Life Sketch
Niccolo Machiavelli was born in Florence on 3rd May 1469. He was born into a family which
was part of the old Florentine nobility. His father, Bernardo di Stefano Nelli, was a lawyer of
some repute and his mother was Bartolommea di Stefano Nelli. He was a member of the lawyer s
guild which influenced Florentine politics. His father, who had a love for literature and the arts had
many powerful contacts in Florence s political circles, which later provided Machiavelli a chance
to enter the field of public service. Machiavelli s life falls naturally into 3 periods his youth (1469

However he must not be too kind. A prince who so long as keeps his subjects united and loyal,
shouldn t mind the criticism he gets for being cruel. He gives the example of Borgia, who was
considered cruel but managed to unite and reconcile the Romagna. According to Machiavelli,
new princes especially cannot avoid being cruel as new states are always full of dangers which
may cause the prince to lose power. He says that a prince must not be too trustworthy and naive
nor must he be so untrustworthy that he becomes intolerable. On this note, he brings up the
famous question of whether it is better to be loved or to be feared. He says that a prince must be
both loved and feared and that if this is not possible, it is always better to be feared than to be
loved. He says that men are ungrateful, fickle, cowardly and greedy. They will be with the prince
as long as the prince benefits them, but they will surely abandon him when there is trouble. This
is because people will break the ties of love when it is inconvenient to them, but the fear of
punishment will not go away so easily. He says that the princes must be careful not to make
himself hated and only feared and he can achieve this by staying away from the citizen s property
and women. People will forget the death of a loved one earlier than the loss of an inheritance

Are The Similarities Between Myrtle Wilson And Daisy Buchanan
Comparing and contrasting of Myrtle Wilson and Daisy Buchanan Daisy Buchanan and Myrtle
Wilson both have similar positions and have both had impacts on the entirety of The Great
Gatsby. Many would say that both are basically one and the same, and that one just goes about
their situations differently than the other. Both have unchanging themes of wealth; However,
that can also be said about most characters in the book. Daisy and Myrtle could actually not be
more different from one another. This includes their personality and values in life. Daisy s
behavior and actions are vastly different from Myrtle s. Her personality is shown to be charming,

Myrtle values the wealthy lifestyle greatly. She would even go so far as to create a facade of
what she believes those of high societal class would act like in order to achieve that, and

about the ice...you have to keep after them all the time (32). here it is proven that Myrtle
believes in order to give everyone the impression that she is high class, she must act in a
snobbish manner. Whereas Daisy who was born into wealth, values convenience majorly over
the latter. Some may disagree and say that she values love, and it is true that she does search for
love; However, this is contradicted when at the end of the day she stays with Tom Buchanan
rather than Gatsby, as is shown in the last scene with them together, Daisy and Tom were sitting
opposite of each other at the kitchen table with a plate of cold fried chicken between them, and
two bottles of ale (145). She stays with Tom only for her own societal convenience, and she is

Abstract For Eye State Analysis
Alioua et al. [11] proposed a robust and novel algorithm which does not require any training data
or any special cameras for eye state analysis by iris detection using Circular Hough Transform

and the localization of eyes was done using horizontal projection technique. The experimental
results were represented as statistical measures such as Confusion Matrix, Correct Classification

staggering number that is almost equal to those diagnosed with heart disease or diabetes

Che Guevar A Visionary Leader In The Cuban Revolution
Che Guevara Words without deeds are worthless! When asked about Che Guevara the first thing
that is mentioned is the famous image of his face on t shirts worn by left leaning young adults,
but did you know he was a prominent figure in the Cuban Revolution? Guevara was both a
visionary and ethical leader because of his ability to lead the Cuban Revolution and because he
cared about suffering. In this paper we will review how Guevara was a visionary leader through his
communication, continuous engagement and willingness to put everything on the line. Second, we
will examine how Guevara applied ethical principles though reflective thinking and intellectual
empathy in helping him make the ethical decision to be a Revolutionary. Finally, I will reflect on
how Guevara s visionary and ethical leadership has influenced me to make changes to my
leadership style. Guevara used his visionary and ethical leadership traits to start a revolution across
Latin America.
Visionary Leader Che Guevara displayed the characteristics of a true Visionary Leader throughout
his involvement with Fidel Castro s efforts to overthrow the Batista government in Cuba. As a
military advisor, he inspired and motivated guerilla troops in battles against Batista forces through
both his words and actions (History.com Staff, 2009). According to the Full Range Leadership
chapter, this is the definition of inspirational motivation. An example of this can found in the fierce

Womack s The Machine That Changed the World, and Milkman s The New Linden jointly tell a
story regarding the development, practice, and global adoption of lean production by auto
manufacturers in the mid 20th Century. Furthermore, these writings support the notion that during
this time period, the American workplace was rapidly changing, which held varying implications
for the worker, management, and unions. With the rise of lean production came an improvement in
labor management relations with focus on the individual through stronger job protections, and
positive interactions between employees and technology in the workspace. Despite this, these

This was achieved via the creation of quality circles, where individual workers could contribute
suggestions to improve the production process, and increasing job security (and consequently
worker loyalty) through lifetime employment and seniority based pay. (Womack 54 56). After the
Japanese auto industry became increasingly competitive with its American counterpart, auto
companies like GM decided to adopt most, if not all practices included in lean manufacturing. This
manifested in the creation of the NUMMI plant, which was a joint effort between GM and Toyota,
and the development of Saturn, a GM subsidiary that exclusively used the practices of lean
production. At these factories, the adoption of lean production generally held the same benefits for
American workers as it did with Japanese workers. What proves ironic in the case of the NUMMI
and Saturn plant, is the fact that the UAW and GM negotiated the terms of employment prior the
factories opening. (Milkman 139) Considering that these plants generally provided the employee
with a positive working experience, emphasized the role of the individual in the team concept, and
consequently removed the need for collective bargaining, the collaborative effort between the UAW
and GM in developing these plants ultimately impeded the influence that the UAW had. In a society
that perceived unions as corrupt and untrustworthy, and not necessarily in the interests of workers,

Lasell College Graduation Analysis
Please provide an account of what you have been doing since leaving Lasell and a clear
explanation of why you wish to return:
The last four years have led me to realize just how big of a mistake I had made by leaving Lasell
College in 2012. As it had happened, I was put on academic suspension my first semester and at
the time, I was immature, unmotivated and indecisive unable to come to terms with the rapidly
shifting dynamics of my life. I was not at all prepared for adulthood; and my adolescent mentality
did not cope well with my newly founded independence. I did not know what I wanted to do with

Maritime Exploration Challenges Of Ferdinand Magellan And...
Maritime Exploration Challenges of Ferdinand Magellan and Sir Francis Drake Exploration of
the oceans was very popular during the time of Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan and
English explorer Sir Francis Drake. Ferdinand Magellan was a young Portuguese man who
enlisted under the Spanish king before he began his expedition to go on a trip around the world
on the 10th of August in 1519 ( Ferdinand 1). Ferdinand Magellan was in search of both fortune
and fame, and he left Spain with 5 ships in hopes of finding a western course for the Spice Islands (
Ferdinand Magellan ). Sir Francis Drakeled the English voyage for maritime exploration, sailing
off in 1577 with 5 ships to embark on a journey around South America via the Straits of Magellan
( Francis ). Both voyages and explorers were met with several challenges in which they had to
quickly resolve. The first of the many issues faced by Ferdinand Magellan and his journey
occurred after they were docked at the Port of St. Julian in the spring of 1520. It was during this
time that three of the ships rose up against the Captain major, their captains saying that they
intended to take him to Castile in arrest, as he was taking them all to destruction ( Ferdinand 2).
While this mutiny was the first of his challenges, it was quickly taken care of by Ferdinand, who
had one of the captains executed and another excommunicated. Although he started out his
exploration with 5 ships, he sailed away from the Port of St. Julian with 4 ships after one was
sent ahead and was shipwrecked due to severe weather. On October 21 of the same year,
Magellan entered the straight he was looking for that would later be named after him. Two ships
entered to see what was inside of the channels in the straight. From the two ships that entered, one
ship, captained by Alvaro de Mesquita, entered into one of the bays which was to the south, and
did not return any more ( Ferdinand 3). At this point, Magellan was down to 3 out of the 5 ships
that he originally started with. He did not wait for this ship, and instead continued the journey after
leaving a note in case the ship returned. In March of 1521, while no longer in the strait but back on
the seas, Magellan once again anchored at

The Collective History Of Scotland
Both Robert Burns and William Wordsworth use the past in their poetry to inspire readers to change
their future but the two poets go about it in very different ways. Burns focuses on the collective
history of Scotland, drawing on its folk songs, national heroes and culture to create revolutionary
sentiment in his readers. Wordsworth sits at almost the other end of the spectrum he focuses in on
the past of individuals and how their futures could be changed through their mind sets.
Unlike Wordsworth, who forges a connection with nature through quiet contemplation and
observation of the natural world, Burns connection with nature is mediated through his experiences
working on farms. This means that both authors approach nature and the Earth in very different
ways. Wordsworth calls upon the readers to leave the cities they inhabit and to go out into the
country, in order to meditate on the emotions and experiences brought about by truly looking at
the landscape. While this is one way to expand one s mind it was not achievable by most of the
urban working class of the time. Wordsworth, as a member of the upper classes, had more leisure
time to go out into the countryside and there to do but experience the scenery. The Urban
working class of this era would not have had the free time to do so. They were busy working long
hours doing hard physical labour almost every day. To take this time off would have cost them in
missed hours they could have been working and money they could

Explain the difference between sequence of development and rate of development and why the
difference is important.
All Children follow very similar pattern of growth and development. For e.g. Physical
development begins with baby holding its head followed by turning over, crawling, sitting and
eventually walking by the age of 12 18months. Most children follow these steps of physical
development, some start walking before their first birthday while some may start walking
independently when they are 18months old or even later. Similarly, communicational development
begins when baby cries to seek attention or convey discomfort, then gradually responds carer with

It Is important to understand why the child is not developing like other children in case a
milestone is not achieved by the expected age. Delays in one aspect can have a domino effect on
the other development. Communicational delays affect many aspects of life. If a child continues
babbling or stammering, he/she could be targeted by peers, get bullied or made fun of. This
affects child s social and emotional development. If a child s motor skills are not developed then
he/she could face problems with writing, handling equipment and other motor skills. Sequence of
development also guides professional at what rate an individual development is expected. If a
milestone is not achieved, then they have to identify the causes of delays. In learning environment
professionals can device an individual support plan to help the child develop and reach full
potentials.

Revision Of The Writing Process
A Study on Revision In The Writing Process
Typically, when most people think about the writing process they think of terms such as a thesis
statement, developing an outline, body paragraphs, conclusion; it s imperative to view writing this
way. We have only been taught THIS way of writing almost directly after we learned how to spell
words you decide what to write about, usually specified in the thesis statement, then you write a
series of paragraphs entailing how you came to this conclusion. Finally, you conclude your paper
by restating exactly what it was you spent an entire essay writing about. And most people will go
their entire lives believing that is the formula for an effective, well thought out work of literature.
But how often do we go back and read through our writing and completely resent how amateur and
forced it sounds? This is usually a direct result of a lack of revision within a work. Defined by the
Merriam Webster dictionary as a change or a set of changes that corrects or improves something
and a new version of something that has been corrected or changed, Revision is not a common
word we think of when writing this raises a serious question: how should you revise? In response
to this to this, research was conducted to find a general view as to the significance of revision
within various individual s writing processes. These results, along with research from several
academic articles provide a clear description as to where revision could be

Gothic And Romanticism In The Raven By Edgar Allen Poe
The gothic genre often gives the ideas of darkness, gore, mystery and trepidation. Gothic literature
first appeared in the 1720 s, the most common eerie yet beautiful themes used are death and decay,
insanity and internal chaos, as well as the supernatural. Gothic writers often attempt to unmask the
dark and horrific side of human nature, the irrational and destructive desires of men. However,
Edgar Allen Poe s literary creations stray away from the conventional and traditional concept of
Gothic. The essential spirit of Romanticism which focuses greatly on characters passion and inner
struggles can also be found in Poe s macabre tales. Unlike other Gothic writers, Poe does not focus

The rhyming and rhythmic pattern in The Raven creates a melancholy and lonely atmosphere
which helps to bring out the tumult within the pessimistic speaker. By shortening the last line of
each stanza, which only consists seven syllables on top of the regular meter of trochaic
octameter and the use of catalexis (shortening and stressing the metric foot at the end of a line)
create a sudden shift in rhythm and an alternative abrupt change in mood in the poem, signifying
the speaker s return to reality from his troubling hallucinations. The predominating ABCBB
rhyme scheme throughout the poem creates a special rhythmic effect of a drunken man whose
mood swings rapidly from depressed to hopeful, amused to enraged, and sullen and heartbroken
more obviously. Within the rhyme scheme, the use of internal rhyme like dreamy and weary ,
morrow and sorrow , uncertain and curtain , along with the use of assonance of the O sound such
as door , Lenore , before and nevermore emphasizes the hypnotizing effect of the sensory
language appealing to hearing. Since rhyming is not focused only at the end of each lines, but
within the lines as well. When the poem is read out loud, the intensive use of alliteration when
addressing the narrator s thoughts in Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream
before creates a musical and alluring effect to the readers, so that readers will fell into the
narrator s world and experience his discord. As the speaker is weak and weary , such alliteration
of W sound has made echo effect more audible and cannot be easily dismissed, just like the
speaker s memories towards his lost Lenore, forever trapped and displayed in flashbacks. By
combining the melancholic rhythm and repetitive rhymes, Poe has successfully lured readers into
the speaker s dreadful and depressing world reconnecting

Measuring Crime And Crime Statistics
Measuring crime helps criminal justice agencies to reflect on the effectiveness of policies in
existence and correctly target resources. Crime statistics are therefore central to solving crime in
England and Wales. In order for crime to be tackled effectively, it is vital that it is measured
accurately. There are two sources of crimestatistics published annually in the UK namely police
recorded crime and the Crime Survey of England and Wales. According to the Crime Survey of
England and Wales, in total there were 7.1 million incidents of crime in 2013 2014. Although
there has been an 11% reduction in crime, several categories of crime such as sexual offences,
fraud and public order offences are up from the previous year. In comparison, latest figures from
police recorded crime shows no overall change from the previous year, with 3.7 million offences
recorded in the year ending March 2014. Whilst Left Realists argue that crime statistics are an
accurate indicator of the state of crime in society, the disparities between the sources of crime
statistics suggest that crime statistics provide an inaccurate measurement of crime in the UK.
Marxists believe that crime statistics are flawed and manipulated by the government in an attempt
to deceive the public. Research calculated by Her Majesty s Inspectorate of Constabulary supports
this view as it revealed that more than 800,000 offences are left off the official crime figure in
England and Wales each year. It is clear that

Essay about President Abraham Lincoln
Although Abraham Lincoln was President over a century and a half ago (1861 1865), he is still
considered to be one of our greatest Presidents, and his legacy remains important for the nation
today.
By the late 1800s, sectional tensions in America had led to a split between the Northern and
Southern states. During the Antebellum period, the North became more industrialized as the South
increased its agricultural production. The two sections developed differing economies and ideas
and by April 14, 1861, at Fort Sumter, the tensions came to a head as the American Civil War
began. Skillfully guiding the nation through this time of hardship and considered one of the

His unyielding position on the preservation of the Union can be seen today as the nation is now
known as the United States of America and includes the Southern regions that attempted to secede
in the 1860s.
Preserving the Union, however, was only one of the accomplishments of Lincoln that still has an
impact today. In the 1820s, with the rise of expansion and agriculture in the South, slavery
increased in America. During the Antebellum period, slavery continued to be a controversial issue
dividing the North and the South and driving the diverging developments of the nation.
With additional expansion in the 1840s, the question of expansion of slavery again raised sectional
tensions and Northern radicals called for abolition while Southern radicals, or fireeaters, called for
secession from the Union. Lincoln s original position on allowing slavery changed over the course
of his presidency, and by the 1860s, Lincoln aligned himself with the abolitionists, calling for the
immediate abolition of slavery. After the Battle of Antietam, on
September 22, 1862, Lincoln announced his decision to abolish slavery in the states that claimed

Police Brutality In Coates s Between The World And Me
Police brutality has become more of a worry within the past two decades. Riots are becoming more
frequent. Fatal shootings are becoming common. Police officers are not held accountable for the
killings they have committed and will continue to commit. Several people believe in the use of
excessive force, otherwise known as police brutality, to claim territories and correct others.
Therefore, it is important to analyze the different views of this aspect.
New York Times bestseller Between the World and Me written by Ta Nehisi Coates compares
historical racism to racism in America today. Coates originally wrote this book for his son,
Samori, so he could explain the trials and tribulations he would have to face as he grows up. Coates

Unlike Coate s, the Editorial Board believes police brutality is brought into the light because of
politicians. Although they may try to hide it, it brings more attention to it. Coate s main belief is
police brutality is recognized because of incidents being known through the news or through
papers. The Editorial Board focuses on the discrimination and injustice brought about by
politicians. They are saying politicians turn a blind eye towards police brutality to make the people
of the public feel safe.
Written by Robert Staples the article White Power, Black Crime, and Racial Politics begins by
explaining the arrest of Henry Louis Gates Jr., a Harvard professor, who was arrested because he
was attempting to get into his own house. Staples continues by explaining the history of police
brutality in the United States. He discusses the political movement reflected in the media arguing
that African Americans pose a threat to other races. Racial profiling and police brutality are also
mentioned in this article. The realization of racism and police brutality are clarified extremely well

Cell Structures Under Different Magnifications Essay
Title: Cell Structures under different magnifications
Abstract
As per the cell hypothesis, the cell is the essential natural unit, the structure having the attributes of
life. The principle target is to watch different cases of protected plant and animal cells to recognize
contrasts between the two cell sorts and to distinguish regular organelles unmistakable in these
examples. Cells can be characterized by sort, for example, prokaryotic or eukaryotic or plant or
creature cells. These sorts have particular, identifiable contrasts that adjust the capacities and
abilities of the cells. While plant and animal cells are both cases of a eukaryotic cell, there are
contrasts that you ought to have the capacity to see in lab. The cell structures when viewed under
different power of magnification, depicts different clarity of organelles.
Introduction
The assorted qualities of structure and capacity in the cell world parallel the differences of species
in the biosphere. Numerous plant and creature cells are steadfastly altered as a major aspect of
multicellular tissues (Pruitt, 2002). The morphology of tissue cells is very associated with their
capacity (Alberts, 2002). Notwithstanding basic and hierarchical contrasts, varieties in cell measure
likewise add to the differing qualities of cell sorts, as far as possible (Bregman Bregman, 1990). The
littler the cell the more noteworthy the surface territory/volume proportion and the more proficient

My Mother In My Life
I can still remember her cooking food on a red hot range top; her hand sitting gently on her hip
as she stirred the boiling macaroni with a wooden spoon. Her long hair was curled behind her
ears on either side. It shone brightly from the sunlight coming in the open kitchen window; and
the cool summer breeze flowed over her like a butterfly. My mom always looked so beautiful
and happy, even when doing the dullest of tasks. Most of the things I can recollect from my
childhood are about my mom: moments I spent with her, places we went, and things we talked
about. Being an only child, my life revolved around her. She was my best friend and was always
there for me when I needed her; she still is. She is one of the few people who are incredibly
important in my life.My mom is the person I credit for inspiring me and raising me to be the
person I amtoday. She taught me how to love, be non judgmental, and be kind. I can remember a
few instances when someone had betrayed her, or was rude to her, and she just smiled and
brushed it off. She always told me that there s no reason to hold a grudge against someone. Being
upset over someone is not worth your time and energy. So, she would just continue on with her
life, being as grateful to be alive as ever. Another thing she taught me was responsibility, probably
the hard way. One afternoon after I returned home from school, I greeted her as I always had, and
scurried into the office room to try and complete a

Essay on Society and Technological Change
1.From the Writing sections of this module: The first writing, Cuneiform, developed in
Mesopotamian cities around 3000BC. What big problem was writing created to solve?
Writing really emerged separately in three regions independently of one another. Those regions are
Central and South America, Mesopotamia, and Asia. It is generally accepted that writing
(Cuneiform) came about in Mesopotamia as a means of documenting transactions and keeping
track of merchandises. Let s say, one mark on a clay tablet intended to be one unit of something
(bushel of grains, livestock, etc.), two marks intended to be two unit, and so on. From there
individuals understood that if you could represent numbers in writing, then you could as well

The printing press was invented in Germany by a metal smith and printer named Johannes
Gutenberg. Despite the fact that it might have taken a year to hand duplicate a book, with the

invention of the alphabet, to the extent that its outcomes on society. Overall, the knowledge came
more rapidly to the hands of the people, in the meantime, printed books can be marketed for a
fraction of the price of illuminated manuscripts.
I believe that the printing press was very important. It was an essential requirement for
Protestantism. However, the advantage of printed books for Protestantism did stop at making
Bible accessible at any public congregation. Meanwhile books became obtainable for some village
population, they could be used to teach peasants and commoners to read and to write on a massive

Church as well, by compelling the Catholic Church to mend your ways and to aggressively pursue

Essay on Should Direct Democracy Be More Widely Used in...
Government and Politics Megan Barry
Should direct democracy be more widely used in the UK? Direct democracy is a form of
government in which all laws are created by a general vote of society. This means that political
decisions are put forward to the people as they are the ones who are going to be directly affected
by the outcome of the decision. An example of direct democracy used occasionally in society is
referendums. A referendum is a general vote by the electorate on a single political question which
has been referred to them for a direct decision. Within this essay I am going to be arguing whether
direct democracy should be used more widely by weighing up the ... Show more content on

Another argument for direct democracy being used more widely in the UK is that it prevents the
government and MPs making extremely unpopular decisions and ultimately, negatively impacting
on the general public s life. On many problems and issues it is particularly difficult for parliament to
know which way to vote, additionally with many issues that require accurate public opinion and
have considerable historical impact, for example, a constitutional change. Direct democracy not
only evades and prevents detrimental decisions for the whole country, but it also aids the
government and helps them to maintain their popularity and further circumvent an uprising or
protest. An example of this in the past is the Referendum on the changing of the voting system in
2011. In the 2011 referendum it was decided by the people that this voting change was not wanted.
Holding a referendum on this particularly issue prevented an unpopular decision that might have
been made by the government alone. This is significant because the government s popularity is
One final argument for direct democracy in the UK is that it increases the people s political
participation and engagement in current issues. When people are given the opportunity to have
their say, they are more likely to get involved in the process, thus increasing the accuracy of the
judgement. A successful and fully functional democracy relies on the involvement of the general
public and the people it will be directly

Nigerian Creation Myth
There is a huge debate about how the world was created and who was first. It can also be
questioned if god created mankind or if mankind created god. There are many different beliefs to
how mankind was created but they are all connected in some way. It can be said that god came
first because there needed to be one person that then realized more people were needed on Earthas
mentioned in the creation myths for Venezuela, Bolivia, and Nigeria. These all talk about different
ways that goddecided how mankind should be created. The creation myth for Venezuela starts off
with the creator of Earth and Sky, Wanadi. He then decided that he could not rule the Earth and the
Sky so he made a copy of himself to rule the Earth. When Wanadi II was on... Show more content

He created these people and gave them traits that have now become societal norms. Women are
the ones who have children and have long hair. Men were the head of the household and had short
hair. In addition, he made people different by creating a variety of ethnicities and languages. Not
everyone was like him because they all have different traits that make them unique. This shows that
there had to be a god first that would be able to create all the different people in the world.
The Nigeria creation myth talks about how Obatala created land on the ground and also created
people because he got bored by himself. As he created the people out of clay, he got drunk and
caused the people to have deformities. But, he took ownership of his mistakes and now protects the
people that have deformities.
Since Obatala made a mistake that affected a lot of people it shows that a god had to have
created mankind because he is the reasoning behind people s deformities. The Yoruba people
have the belief that he protects anyone that has a deformity. Without the mistake of the god, the
people on earth would not have deformities. This is connected to the modern world because not
everyone looks the same and some people are born with deformities. People with deformities turn
out to be strong and other people do not question why some people have these deformities. The
Yoruba people do not all look the same therefore, god had to have come first so there could be

The Budget For The Budget Of The International Criminal Court
The budget for the Court, according to the International Criminal Court website, is currently
$141.6 million, as of 2017. If the increase of the budget is brought on by America, China, Russia,
and many other states that are not currently ratified or signed with the treaty, than the current
jurisdiction could be increased. Currently, as of 2017, the Court has 31 arrest warrants issued. To
these 31, around 15 of the criminals for the arrest warrants are seen to be remaining at large; the
current funding of the court is not large enough for the apprehension of the remaining 15 criminals.

With such a low budget, it does not help that the International Criminal Court does not own their
own police force or enforcement body thus being the only way is to rely on supporting countries
armies, police force, national guard, etc... to capture the warrants that are handed out for the
apprehension of criminals. If the increase of the $146 million dollar budget is to happen, then the
funding could help support a sole police task force for the International Criminal Court, in which
they do not have to rely on other countries but rather themselves. Solely having their own police
task force will allow for the issue of more warrants within supporting countries due to not having to
rely on their police force, but rather their own. As stated from the International Criminal Court, As a
judicial institution, the ICC does not have its own police force or enforcement body; thus, it relies
on cooperation with countries worldwide for support, particularly for making arrests, transferring
arrested persons to the ICC detention centre in The Hague, freezing suspects assets, and enforcing
sentences. As stated by the following quote, the current jurisdiction of the International Criminal
Court is not vast, and seemingly, it is actually quite small. Alike, the jurisdiction is accounting for
the four sums of crimes: genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of

Sports And Exercise Psychology Myths
Sport and Exercise Psychology Myths Timothy R. Horn Emporia State University Myths are
commonly taken as fact when it comes to many of these areas of sport psychology. Coaches,
teachers, and athletes will never change unless they inspect or are taught the facts and research
behind these various theories and behaviors. This can be a large problem for those athletes who
are instructed incorrectly, and it could potentially damage their futures in athletic competitions.
Myth #1: Personality traits alone account for behavior in sports and exercise. (Personality)
Researchers since the 1960 s and 1970 s have inspected personality behaviors and had no success
in pinning personalities to a certain sport. For example, successful middle linebackers in football
tend to have aggressive personalities, but other successful linebackers may not have that same
personality quality. (Weinburg and Gould, 40). Correlating personalities to define athletes is no
easy task because there are too many variables to consider. However, there was a study done many
years ago in 1977, by Schurr, Ashley and Joy, that depicted significant results regarding influence on
choice and sports performance. They researched around 2000 students using a questionnaire to find
differences between non athletes and athletes. They concluded that no unique personality profiles
deciphered between athletes and non athletes. However, during their study they did find behavioral

Coaching Analysis
Assignment one
Introduction:
Analysis of sports performance is of great importance to a higher performance sports coach.
Coaching is about enhancing an athlete(s) performance a principal means by which this achieved is
through feedback however research as proven that human observation and memory are not reliable
enough to provide the detailed information necessary to secure behavioural changes (Franks and
Miller 1986) P101.
According to world renowned rugby union coach Graham Henry A successful coach is one who
prepares his team to deal with all eventualities, are fully briefed on the game and understand their
requirements. A coach s job is to familiarise them with their particular strengths and weaknesses
(Henry 1999). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Analysis can also be used whilst coaching on a one to one basis. The athlete can then view their
performance techniques in order to ascertain information required in enhancing their performance.
2. The methods and systems used in performance analysis
1.2.1 The human memory can be used to aid a coach in his analysis of performance however this
way is not known to be the most effective way to support performance analysis. Human memory is
limited so it is almost impossible to remember and acknowledge everything that happens throughout
a game type situation.
For example Franks and Miller (1986) provided information research collected that showed less
than 45 percent of football coaches where accurate in their post match assessment using the method
of human memory (Hughes 2008) p103. Even though the use of human memory can give the coach
a general idea of how a team or athlete as done throughout a game or event, it should not be used to
determine accurate observational or statistical conclusions.
1.2.2 Hand notion is relatively accurate and cheap but it does have disadvantages (Hughes 2008)
p101. This type of method often consists of relevant details of performance that is often collected
by one or more persons throughout an event or game type situation. Analysis data is collected and
presented to the coach often in the form of graphs pie charts, and bar

Relation Between Gender And Infants
Researchers have hypothesized that the hormone that makes an infant a male also organizes the
brain in a masculine way. Studies have shown when testosterone is blocked in the developing fetus
then the male child engages in less rough and tumble play. If the brain plays a part in masculinizing
a male infant then one can obviously see that genderassignment before the child decides their
gender would not be the best treatment option. Studies have shown that boys as young as thirteen
months like to play with so called boy toys such as trucks and girls prefer dolls. Social interaction
also forms the infant s gender, parents interact different with boys versus girls. For example parents
tend to be more vocal with girls. Infants born with congenital

Compare Montesssori And Powell
In today s society, education is something that could definitely be improved for children.
Teachers could improve the kind of guidance and structure that they provide for their children.
Maria Montessori and Colin Powell have devoted their lives trying to help reform education to
be more beneficial for children. While Montessori and Powell both have an amazing passion for
their purpose, they both have differing opinions of how this should happen. To begin, It is clear to
readers that both Montessori and Powell have contradicting ideas about the role of the teacher in a
child s development. In Montessori s handbook, the role of the teacher is to be a guide. Montessori

states our Intervention in this marvelous process is indirect; we are here to offer to this life,
which came into the world by itself, the means necessary for its development . Montessori uses
this to express her passion and desire for children. She implies that teachers should be even more
patient with a child as his development evolves because teachers are indirect in this intervention.
She also states that teachers are there for children to offer to the life they already have because
they came into this world by themselves and this is the means for development. This implies that
teachers have a special place in a child s life to improve to the life that they already have. This
shows that she wants what is best for children. Furthermore, readers can comprehend that
Montessori wants what s best for kids because she elaborates that teachers should be always ready
to share in both the joys and the difficulties which the child experiences . Montessori explains that
adults should be always ready to share in a child s experiences. This implies that adults need to be
patient with children but always be ready to help them when needed and rejoice with them when
they succeed. She also explains that teachers should always be ready. This display s that a
teacher should always be there to help each child and that a child should be able to approach her
with any need that he has without feeling a resistance to her. This shows that Montessori wants
what is best for kids, and she goes about this in a very passionate way. Similarly, Powell also
wants what is best for children. Lastly, Powell shows his passion for children as the states that you
d be amazed at what you can do with them once you put them in that structure. Powell uses

Abstract
The processes of a cart rolling up and returning back along a track were recorded, and the processes
(motion of the cart.) were described as equations. Also, we calculated the accelerations of every
stage (aup, adown and ahighest). Then the relationship among aup, adown and ahighest was
concluded. Finally, the acceleration was measured and was proved from data.

Therefore, the net force of the block was mg*sinОё and pointed down along the track.
The free body diagram is as following:
Since no friction acted on cart, aup=adown=ahighest= g*sinОё.
Procedure:
The thickness of two blocks together (H) was measured, and the length of the track (L) was
recorded. Then the two wood blocks were put on the desk, and one end of the track was set on
the blocks to make the incline. Meanwhile, the angle between the track and the desk, Оё, was
calculated (technically, sinОё was measured according to sinОё=H/L). Next, we marked 30cm
on the one side of the track by using tapes, which was applied to determine the distance in the
Motion Lab VideoRECOREDER. After that, the distance and height of the camera was adjusted
to a proper position to make sure record the motion well. According to the video effect from
computer, the best position for observation was about 40cm height above the desk, and 80cm
away from the track. Then we put the cart with the compressed spring on the lower end of the
track. After that, we fixed the track in case that the track would move or vibrate when the cart
started. Then the spring of the cart was released and the time was recorded simultaneously. After
the cart returned back, before it collided the end of the track, we then stopped it and finished
recording. Next, the data

Characteristics Of The Unsung Heroes Straughn 1 Mi esha Straughn Dr. Willis 2 October 2017 ENG 101/102 Mini Term The Unsung Heroes Superheroes, astronauts, actors, and princesses are among the answers given when children are asked their desired professions. As they grow up, however, they begin to solidify legitimate professions to support themselves and be happy. Growing up, I knew for a fact that I wanted to be a detective. The idea of solving real cases with real people and interviewing suspects gave me a rush like no other. Helping people has always been a goal of mine. From being a detective, I have also contemplated being a dental hygienist, cosmetologist (like my mother), and even a history teacher. The variety of occupations in the world are almost never ending; there are even jobs that no one has really even thought about. Even though I occasionally change my mind, I have decided to give up my childhood dream of becoming a detective to become a registered nurse (RN). The nursing profession has continued to thrive over time. Because I have seen how often nurses get overlooked, I want to be a part of a profession that knows its worth, learns more than just education, and is beneficial to society. Although they are the unsung heroes of hospitals, schools, and even the military, nurses are essential to communities around the world, and I look forward to entering this profession. The nursing major is a popular choice for many people entering college. This profession continues to grow because of numerous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a moral obligation for students, earning a degree, that they are in fact the ones doing the homework and tests. The prevalence of online institutions has helped enable a multitude of working individuals earn a degree. Health Care Policies Across Different Countries Healthcare can be defined as the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, injury, illness, and other physical and mental impairments that human beings may have. The healthcare system is made up of an organization of trained people that have resources to deliver health care services to meet the needs of the target population. Health care is practiced by licensed individuals in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, and other health professions. Access to healthcare is different depending on the country and is largely influenced by its culture, political system and pre existing health policies. With japan being the country of choice, its healthcare history, political system, and culture will be compared to the United States system, history, and culture. There are many different types of health insurances policies across different countries. Japan is located at the eastern edge of the Asian continent. A contract involves two or more parties promising to perform an action in exchange for consideration. Consideration is what each party receives in return for each party s promise in the contract. Goods are physical items that can be moved at the time of identification to the contract. In this scenario, Fine Furniture, Inc., a furniture manufacturer, offered to sell 1,000 dining room chairs to a buyer, Jaguar Interiors, for the price of $100,000. • 9. Arcadia by Tom Stoppard Shows The Dangers and Chaos and... While Arcadia by Tom Stoppard is a play that intertwines a lot of humor with mathematical and scientific reasoning, it also conveys a message regarding the dangers and chaos of absolute knowledge. Much of what occurs in Acadia relates to the article The Dangers of Certainty: A Lesson From Auschwitz written Simon Critchley. In today s modern society, Stoppard s play is about why scientists proceed in researching concepts that yield nothing; it is about why people associate themselves with endearment in face of the disruption that it can cause. The characters in the play struggle, and often fail in their attempts for certainty, falling into irritation with others. Humans, by nature, are constantly seeking definite answers; a mentality that allows one to address an issue, find a solution, and continue on. Humans have a hard time accepting that, sometimes, there are things for which one will never have a definite answer. As the author, Simon Critchley, states, Insisting on certainty, by contrast, leads ineluctably to arrogance and dogma based on ignorance. This can be seen in many instances throughout the play, where many of the characters grow very irritated; Bernard, for instance, tries to prove his theory that Byron killed Ezra Chater. In his attempt, he grows ineluctably arrogant, especially when he finds that he is indeed wrong, and fails at his quest for certainty: Fucked by dahlia! Do you think? Is it open and shut? Am i fucked? What does it really amount to? When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Stephen As A Fan Of Lord Byron s Poetry Stephen s dissent to religious ideologies began while he was attending his first year at Belvedere College. He was accused of heresy by Mr. Tate, the English master. While in class, Mr. Tate accused Stephen of heresy, and Stephen knew his essay contained heresy because he, did not look up. [...] He was conscious of failure and detection [...] (Joyce, 69) After opening Stephen s essay to find the heresy in question, Mr. Tate proclaimed, Ah! without a possibility of ever approaching nearer. That s heresy, to which Stephen mumbled, I meant without a possibility of ever reaching (Joyce, 69). Stephen s intentional act of heresy points to his religious dissent. Stephen is also a fan of Lord Byron s poetry. One night while walking, Stephen s classmates began to discuss their favorite poets when one of the boys said that Lord Tennyson was his favorite. At this Stephen forgot the silent vows he had been making and burst out: Tennyson a poet! Why, he s only a rhymester! (Joyce, 71) They dismissed Stephen s claims and asked him who he believes is the best poet, and Stephen said, Byron, of course (Joyce, 71). They all laughed at Stephen s response and claimed that Byron was a poet for the uneducated people. Stephen fervently defended his answer and was accused of being a heretic and immoral, like Byron (Joyce, 71). Byron was viewed as a heretic by many people in the 19th century. Like Milton, Byron topic of choice was religion, and his writing forced people to actively question ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Persuasive Argument For Adoption Most couples, or even single parents don t even consider the option of adoption, due to the fact that they want a child of their own, or with their significant other. So, they will look into all the fancy technology and try getting pregnant that way before ever considering adoption. Most individuals think that adoptionis expensive and refer to adoption as their last resort. However, adoption is not near as expensive as Artificial Insemination, Pre Seed, and several other fertility treatments. According to the Children s Action Network, adopting children from foster carecan be virtually free. Many agencies do not charge for the services they provide to families who are adopting a child from foster care. In addition, a growing number of companies and government agencies offer adoption assistance as part of their employee benefits packages, including time off for maternity /paternity leave, financial incentives, and other benefits. Congress has also made federal tax credits available for foster care adoptions to help offset required fees, court costs, and legal and travel expenses. In 2012, the maximum federal tax credit for qualifying expenses was $12,170. These types of benefits enable more families to adopt children from foster care into their homes, (Studios). • 14. The Theme Of Religion In Hamlet Hamlet by William Shakespeare, in the Elizabethan Era, is a play that is expressed with many themes. Hamlet, the main character, battles with the tragic death of his father and the marriage of his mother and uncle. Hamlet is then approached by a ghost that closely resembles his father and reveals the murder of the late king. He then goes on a quest for revenge, hesitating at every turn and pretending to have gone mad. He spends time rejecting the love of Ophelia until her untimely death. At that time he then goes to duel her brother, of whom he is jealous, in a fencing match. There the intentions of the characters are revealed in the death of Laertes, Gertrude, Hamlet, and Claudius. Throughout the play religion takes a big part in the decisions of the characters along with their faith. In the 1500s to 1600s religion practices were an enormous issue leading to the deaths of many. • 15. Challenges Of China Resource Corporation The most significant challenges China Resource Corporation faced prior to 6S were government intervention, over diversification, lack of strategy, lack of centralized reporting, and short term focused managers. New policies in the economy during the late 70s under Deng ended CRC s monopoly for China s trade. The introduction of special economic zones (SEZs) and joint venture partnerships reduced CRCs value position as the mediator, as it was no longer necessary for firms to work thru CRC to access the goods and benefits. CRCs broadening of interests and portfolio diversification grew rapidly due to the loss of its monopoly. The expansion of investments caused overinvestment and overcapacity which cut into returns and it became evident that the company s assets and operations were poorly controlled and too diverse. Even with improved operations through cutting offices and unprofitable companies as well as improved financial management, CRC subsidiaries remained separated with little centralized reporting or integration into the corporate strategy. Many of the companies were opportunity driven rather than strategic and the quality of performance assessment, reporting, and management varied significantly across the subsidiaries, making it challenging for managers to see and address each company s opportunities. Managers were more concerned with hitting yearly benchmarks than long term strategy. Utilizing 6S, Jiang Wei was trying to address the business profitability and long ... He gives the example of Borgia, who was considered cruel but managed to unite and reconcile the Romagna. According to Machiavelli, new princes especially cannot avoid being cruel as new states are always full of dangers which may cause the prince to lose power. He says that a prince must not be too trustworthy and naive nor must he be so untrustworthy that he becomes intolerable. On this note, he brings up the famous question of whether it is better to be loved or to be feared. He says that a prince must be both loved and feared and that if this is not possible, it is always better to be feared than to be loved. He says that men are ungrateful, fickle, cowardly and greedy. They will be with the prince as long as the prince benefits them, but they will surely abandon him when there is trouble. This is because people will break the ties of love when it is inconvenient to them, but the fear of punishment will not go away so easily. Many would say that both are basically one and the same, and that one just goes about their situations differently than the other. Both have unchanging themes of wealth; However, that can also be said about most characters in the book. Daisy and Myrtle could actually not be more different from one another. Guevara was both a visionary and ethical leader because of his ability to lead the Cuban Revolution and because he cared about suffering. In this paper we will review how Guevara was a visionary leader through his communication, continuous engagement and willingness to put everything on the line. Second, we will examine how Guevara applied ethical principles though reflective thinking and intellectual empathy in helping him make the ethical decision to be a Revolutionary. After the Japanese auto industry became increasingly competitive with its American counterpart, auto companies like GM decided to adopt most, if not all practices included in lean manufacturing. This manifested in the creation of the NUMMI plant, which was a joint effort between GM and Toyota, and the development of Saturn, a GM subsidiary that exclusively used the practices of lean production. At these factories, the adoption of lean production generally held the same benefits for American workers as it did with Japanese workers. What proves ironic in the case of the NUMMI and Saturn plant, is the fact that the UAW and GM negotiated the terms of employment prior the factories opening. (Milkman 139) Considering that these plants generally provided the employee with a positive working experience, emphasized the role of the individual in the team concept, and consequently removed the need for collective bargaining, the collaborative effort between the UAW and GM in developing these plants ultimately impeded the influence that the UAW had. Maritime Exploration Challenges of Ferdinand Magellan and Sir Francis Drake Exploration of the oceans was very popular during the time of Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan and English explorer Sir Francis Drake. Ferdinand Magellan was a young Portuguese man who enlisted under the Spanish king before he began his expedition to go on a trip around the world on the 10th of August in 1519 ( Ferdinand 1). Ferdinand Magellan was in search of both fortune and fame, and he left Spain with 5 ships in hopes of finding a western course for the Spice Islands ( Ferdinand Magellan ). Sir Francis Drakeled the English voyage for maritime exploration, sailing off in 1577 with 5 ships to embark on a journey around South America via the Straits of Magellan ( Francis ). Both voyages and explorers were met with several challenges in which they had to quickly resolve. The first of the many issues faced by Ferdinand Magellan and his journey occurred after they were docked at the Port of St. Julian in the spring of 1520. It was during this time that three of the ships rose up against the Captain major, their captains saying that they intended to take him to Castile in arrest, as he was taking them all to destruction ( Ferdinand 2). While this mutiny was the first of his challenges, it was quickly taken care of by Ferdinand, who had one of the captains executed and another excommunicated. Although he started out his exploration with 5 ships, he sailed away from the Port of St. Julian with 4 ships after one was sent ahead and was shipwrecked due to severe weather. On October 21 of the same year, Magellan entered the straight he was looking for that would later be named after him. Two ships entered to see what was inside of the channels in the straight. From the two ships that entered, one ship, captained by Alvaro de Mesquita, entered into one of the bays which was to the south, and did not return any more ( Ferdinand 3). At this point, Magellan was down to 3 out of the 5 ships that he originally started with. He did not wait for this ship, and instead continued the journey after leaving a note in case the ship returned. Burns focuses on the collective history of Scotland, drawing on its folk songs, national heroes and culture to create revolutionary sentiment in his readers. Wordsworth sits at almost the other end of the spectrum he focuses in on the past of individuals and how their futures could be changed through their mind sets. Unlike Wordsworth, who forges a connection with nature through quiet contemplation and observation of the natural world, Burns connection with nature is mediated through his experiences working on farms. This means that both authors approach nature and the Earth in very different ways. Finally, you conclude your paper by restating exactly what it was you spent an entire essay writing about. By shortening the last line of each stanza, which only consists seven syllables on top of the regular meter of trochaic octameter and the use of catalexis (shortening and stressing the metric foot at the end of a line) create a sudden shift in rhythm and an alternative abrupt change in mood in the poem, signifying the speaker s return to reality from his troubling hallucinations. The predominating ABCBB rhyme scheme throughout the poem creates a special rhythmic effect of a drunken man whose mood swings rapidly from depressed to hopeful, amused to enraged, and sullen and heartbroken more obviously. Within the rhyme scheme, the use of internal rhyme like dreamy and weary , morrow and sorrow , uncertain and curtain , along with the use of assonance of the O sound such as door , Lenore , before and nevermore emphasizes the hypnotizing effect of the sensory language appealing to hearing. According to the Crime Survey of England and Wales, in total there were 7.1 million incidents of crime in 2013 2014. During the Antebellum period, the North became more industrialized as the South increased its agricultural production. The two sections developed differing economies and ideas and by April 14, 1861, at Fort Sumter, the tensions came to a head as the American Civil War began. Preserving the Union, however, was only one of the accomplishments of Lincoln that still has an impact today. In the 1820s, with the rise of expansion and agriculture in the South, slavery increased in America. During the Antebellum period, slavery continued to be a controversial issue dividing the North and the South and driving the diverging developments of the nation. With additional expansion in the 1840s, the question of expansion of slavery again raised sectional tensions and Northern radicals called for abolition while Southern radicals, or fireeaters, called for secession from the Union. Lincoln s original position on allowing slavery changed over the course of his presidency, and by the 1860s, Lincoln aligned himself with the abolitionists, calling for the immediate abolition of slavery. After the Battle of Antietam, on September 22, 1862, Lincoln announced his decision to abolish slavery in the states that claimed secession, and on January 1, 1863, Lincoln formally signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Direct democracy is a form of government in which all laws are created by a general vote of society. Direct democracy not only evades and prevents detrimental decisions for the whole country, but it also aids the government and helps them to maintain their popularity and further circumvent an uprising or protest. An example of this in the past is the Referendum on the changing of the voting system in 2011. In the 2011 referendum it was decided by the people that this voting change was not wanted. This can be a large problem for those athletes who are instructed incorrectly, and it could potentially damage their futures in athletic competitions. Myth #1: Personality traits alone account for behavior in sports and exercise. (Personality) Researchers since the 1960 s and 1970 s have inspected personality behaviors and had no success in pinning personalities to a certain sport. For example, successful middle linebackers in football tend to have aggressive personalities, but other successful linebackers may not have that same personality quality. (Weinburg and Gould, 40). Correlating personalities to define athletes is no easy task because there are too many variables to consider. However, there was a study done many years ago in 1977, by Schurr, Ashley and Joy, that depicted significant results regarding influence on choice and sports performance.
