Willy Wonka Attribution Theory
Throughout the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Charlie believes that he has a better
shot than anyone to get the golden ticket because he wants it more than anyone else. Charlie has the
motive to approach success in this situation because he has the capacity to experience pride in
accomplishment. (Shcunk 126). He believes that no one else in the world deserves the ticket more
than he does so that gives him the motivationto try and find it. When he does find it he demonstrates
incentive value of success, defined as one s pride in accomplishment, by running straight home and
showing everyone his golden ticket. Charlies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Alibaba s Dominant Business Model Essay
Alibaba s dominant business model is an exchange. Piccoli, in his textbook, defines exchanges as
Exchanges are organizations that create a marketplace for buyers and sellers to come together and
transact. Thus, an exchange does not take control of inventory or worry about fulfillment. Rather
the exchange provides a market making service and is compensated with fees, commission on sales,
or consulting fees on more complex business to businesstransactions. The prototypical example of
an exchange is eBay. Others include Alibaba.com and Ariba both mainly targeting the business to
business domain. (Piccoli, pg 170)
Principally, Alibaba is a Chinese business to business e commerce company. Alibaba focuses on
suppliers and buyers trading both domestically and internationally. The business to business
marketplaces provide a platform to facilitate e commerce between business sellers, whom Alibaba
refers to as suppliers , and wholesale buyers. Suppliers and buyers would use the marketplaces to
establish their presence online, identify potential trading partners and conduct business with each
other. Suppliers and some buyers would use the marketplaces to host their company profiles and
catalogs in standardized formats known as storefronts and post listings such as products, services
and trade leads. Users could view storefronts and listings in over 30 industry categories and nearly
5,000 product categories by either searching for keywords or browse through the

Detention Argumentative Essay
Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach that man to fish and he will never go hungry.
The same can be said for behavior correction in our youth. Give the child detention, and he will not
be disruptive for a day. Teach that child how to better control their feeling and behavior, and he will
make clear minded and thoughtful choices for a lifetime. Detention is a disciplinary action that tells
the student they made a bad choice with their behavior. However, it does not teach the student how
to make betterbehavior choices. Detention has been around for many years as the solution for
disruptive and ill behaved children, however; the rise in diagnosed anxiety disorders among
teenagers is 25%. With suicide now the third leading cause of death among young teenagers,
(Lynch, 2016) it is clear, detention is not the solution to the problem. Meditationon the other hand,

Use of the Mindful Moment Room includes yoga, stretches, and deep breathing practices. Students
also begin and end each day with a 15 minute guided meditation and are encouraged to stay after
school for a yoga practice to help decompress from the school day. After using the room, students
report that when their emotions start to overwhelm them, they can refer to their breathing
techniques, tune out the distracting stimuli, and refocus on their work. Others report a boost in
their self confidence as well as reduced stress and symptoms of depression (Bloom, 2016).

teachers not only reported a significant drop in hyperactive behavior and inattentiveness among
their students, but that these finding were maintained and even improved upon in the following

Exceptional Skin Agers
Did you ever wonder why some people seem to never age? Researchers at Harvard Medical
School paired with DNA analysis company 23andMe studied genetic data from 60,000 women
over from a variety of ages and ethnic groups to finally figure out what the deal with exceptional
skin agers is. BEAUTY MYSTERY SOLVED By isolated people they deemed to look younger than
they actually were without undergoing cosmetic surgery, they found that genes have a lot to do
with looking young. Could this solve the mystery confronting thousands beauty conscious people
across the globe? Ageless people seem to express differently the approximately 20,000 genes, which
focus on cell energy, skin formation, and antioxidant production differently. Interestingly, that

The reality in all of this is that we must decide ourselves who we are and what we d like to
represent us...for it isn t just Americans that tune in to popular programming; there are countless
others around the planet that may never come across a black woman...and the image on TV is all
they have to go by. The phenomenon that black reality televisionhas become in an overarching topic
both in and outside the African Americancommunity. As the African American Community,
especially women within the community continue to enjoy these shows for what they are worth,
understanding both the good and bad, we must determine whether the stereotypes being
emphasized and highlighted through shows like Real Housewives of Atlanta, Love and Hip Hop
and Basketball Wives are detrimental to the way African American women are seen and how we
see ourselves not only our generation, but for generations, decades and centuries to come. This
paper will seek to not only take a closer look into two prominent African American women s
character traits depicted in popular reality shows, but also to find an answer to the hovering
question of whether or not they are detrimental to the way we are seen.
The depiction and debate whether is be positive or negative idea of blacks in television, is a
relatively new concept. The first black appeared on television was in 1950, a mere 64 years ago.

Comparing Greek And Norse Mythology
When analyzing both Greek and Norse stories and beliefs, they can appear to be both very unique
in nature, but also very alike to each other. Some of the attributes shared between them exist in
their gods, concept of fate, and origin story where they conquer their creators. Along with the
parallels they share, they also contrast when it comes to their playful or gloomy nature, heroes,
and the gods power. To compare Greek and Norse mythology, it is beneficial to examine the gods,
their ideas of fate, and their origin stories that they had. Though their gods generally differed, they
held many of the same traits. Odin and Zeuswere both seen as a ruler of the Olympians. Thor also
possessed elemental traits similar to Zeus, lightning and thunder. Both sets of mythologies have
gods that pertain to parts... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were certain beings for vegetation, war, thunder, lightning, love, beauty, and death. Along
with the similarities of the gods, they also shared a belief that their fate was predetermined. Even
those who controlled fate were very similar. For the Greeks it was the Fates, and for the Norse it
was the Norns. Both are often depicted spinning, measuring, and cutting the threads of fate. Having
fate lie in the hands of other beings gives the notion that the gods and mortals alike can not control
their destinies. Often people would say it was the fault of the Fates or Norns and not their own.
Also, In both of their creation stories, the once ruling race is taken over by the gods, their own
creations turning against them. In The Creation , it states the following from Norse myth: At last

the police officers directing the traffic. The car had two women, looking to be in their 40s, sitting
in the driver and passenger talking with smiles on their faces. After finally making it into the
actual parking lot, I walked to the Coliseum with others making the trek. There were

Analysis of Plato s Republic Essay
Philosophy is a Greek word meaning love of wisdom. Throughout Plato s Republic, wisdom plays
an important role. According to Plato, education is wisdom. In the passage, 518d, Plato discusses
the true meaning of education vicariously through Socrates. Some literary mechanisms can be
found in the passage and I will show how they fit in the text and how they contribute to the main
themes of Platos Republic.
In Book VII Socrates has finished listening to other opinions and is now formulating a response.
The oration is an excerpt from an intellectual conversation between Socrates and Glaucon. The goal
of the dialogue is to reach a viable explanation of education. Simile is used in the passage when
Socrates compares the instrument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the allegory Socrates gives an account of a man that breaks free from his bonds and makes his
way out of the darkness into the outside world. His story represents a man s journey to
enlightenment. To reach enlightenment a man must use education to break the bonds of ignorance
and direct his sight towards true things that originate from the Form of Good. Man already has the
capacity to see, he only needs guidance. Guidance is the job of the philosopher kings. After these
kings have reached enlightenment it is their duty to travel back into the cave and educate some of
the ignorant masses.
Socrates says that wherever sight is set is what will be seen with the most clarity. If a man doesn
t have his sight set on the right things, he can still be very clever but his sight is forced to serve
evil ends, so that the sharper it sees, the more evil it accomplishes. (519a).
Plato s Republic is a blueprint for his ideal society. In his republic education is something only
attainable to the philosopher kings. It is beneficial for the philosopher kings to be very well
educated so they will make good decisions while they are ruling the republic. The reason that no
one else should receive such an elaborate education (in Plato s opinion) is because the rest of the
people in the city only need to do what they are specialized in. This seems to be divergent from
what Socrates previously said, . ..the power to learn is present in everyone s

Essay about Geoffrey of Monmouth s Life of Merlin
Geoffrey of Monmouth s Life of Merlin
Geoffrey of Monmouth s Life of Merlin is a text that makes its readers struggle with finding
criteria for madness. What does it even mean to be mad? Madness seems to define a person only
when he or she does something to stray from the normality of any given group of people.
Breaking societal norms often leaves people open to criticism and suspicion. In order to be sane
and mentally healthy, one has to abide by all explicit and implicit rules of society. Life of Merlin
is about a man that abandons feudal society, and all of its rules, in hopes of finding a better place
to live. A better place to live, for him, is one that is purely good. Violent and deceitful people are
ultimately the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This thought leaves him to blame the humans responsible for it. Merlin claims that whole kingdoms
feared the same men that died. Therefore, people within the kingdom are responsible for such
slaughter, not fate alone. Fear was the driving force that ultimately led to violence. It is on this
logical basis that Merlin fears humanity. If fear alone can drive humans to kill other humans, then
Merlin fears for his life and the life of others. Logical considerations, rather than mad ideas,
compel Merlin to abandon feudal society. If one sees Merlin as sane and logical, then one might
even begin to see the people of the kingdom as mad. This leaves the reader with the possibility that
the society surrounding Merlin is mad, not Merlin himself.
Besides Merlin s logic for leaving, for fear of a violently mad society, the reader can also see
how the deceptive nature of humans in feudal society is reasonable enough for leaving. Merlin s
summary of a doorman s life gives the reader a better explanation of how much his extra worldly
perception haunts him. Merlin explains, The doorman in front of the gates was sitting in shabby
clothes and was begging passers by to give him money or buying clothes. Yet all the time he was
secretly rich, for he had a secret hoard of coins under him (79). Most people would walk by the
doorman and believe him to be a true poor person. Merlin, however, has

Causes And Consequences Of Mosquitoes
Mosquitoes are significant groups of arthropods that inhabit aquatic habitats. They are probably
adverse arthropods, which transmits wide range of pathogens that cause drastic deadly diseases
such as human malaria, dengue, filariasis, viral encephalitis (Leopoldo 2008). Zika virus, another
mosquitoe borne infection was first reported in Brazil by Pan American Health Organization in
2015. After the identification, the Zika virus has spread tremendously all around America. The
illness begins with mild symptoms lasting up to a week after being bitten by vector mosquito.
However, an infection during pregnancy may cause certain neurological anomalies like
microcephaly and several other brain defects (Plourde Bloch 2016).Thus control of mosquitoes
becomes the need of the hour to prevent wide epidemic infections. However, it is difficult to
control and prevent severe consequences created by mosquito species (Aneesh 2009).
Currently a total of 3549 recognized mosquito species belonging to subfamily Culicinae are

Reflection Paper On Cultural Experience
For my cultural experience, I decided to connect with my roots. Even though I am Hispanic
American, my parents never truly exposed me to my Mexican culture. This assignment seemed like
the perfect opportunity to connect with elements of my heritage.
My parents were born and raised in downtown Joliet, so I went to them to ask them where the
best place would be to go find those types of experiences. They told me that the East side of Joliet
would be my best chance of experiencing a new cultural experience.
The following day, I decided to take a trip to this region. As I came closer to approaching the East
side, I noticed that the surroundings around me started changing quite drastically. A great
percentage of signs posted on billboards and businesses were written in Spanish. No English on the
signs was visible anywhere either. I also noticed that great amount of businesses that were being
run by Hispanic men. Considerably much greater than any businesses located in my neighborhood.
I decided to stop at a small corner store located right next to Joliet Central high school. The store
was called Supermercado Joliet . When I walked inside, I noticed that many of the products being
sold weren t the everyday product that I was used to seeing being sold in a Walmart or Jewel

Who Is The Protagonist Theoden
To break away from the traditional method of introducing a character through descriptions of
physical appearances and personal behaviour, the first impression of protagonist Theoden is
formed through associations linked to water and the colour blue as these themes are commonly
referred to throughout the tale. The blue, is both applied to provide simple detail of colour to the
setting, however it is more so to convey the emotional state of sadness, which is what it connotes.
Theoden clearly suffers with grief, and the setting is almost used as a tool of contrast for the
character with his surroundings. The moon and its far distanced companions ( here is a use of a

There is yet again the mentioning of colour, in which the blue faded to black during the scene.
The effect of this simple detail is the first step towards the sudden change of the event, into an

into a tone of sharper and darker melody reflects the water s changing atmosphere. Amaryllis
develops relentless behaviour as she pierces, claws and scrapes over Theoden s shrinking body ,
implicating he is vulnerable and powerless, which can create some tension as the reader may
experience concern as to whether or not he shall survive. Overall, the singing and drastic change of
Amaryllis from a beautiful and radiant being to an utterly ruthless character, followed by the
helplessness of Theoden parallels to the Greek myths of Sirens and Sailors, which is the form of

Factors Of Vitraya Ramunong And The Tree Of Souls
There are five important factors to Ingold s argument. First, the occupied world consists of things,
each an accumulation of the threads of life, and not of objects which are considered as bounded,
independent and absolute entities. Per Ingold (2010: 2) To create things, per Aristotle, involves a
bringing together of a form (morphe) and matter (hyle) . To illustrate this, let s consider Vitraya
Ramunong or The Tree of Souls (Avatar,2009). Where do the Tree of Souls end and the rest of
Pandora begin? Even though the question sounds quite simple, it is not easily answered. We can
look at the physical aspects first. Is the giant Willow like tree s bark part of the tree? Are the
organisms occupying the bark part of the tree? Are the woodsprites, or seeds, part of the tree? Are
the creatures occupying the tree part of the tree? Are the Na vi clans who occupy the tree part of
the tree? Is the unobtanium deposit underneath the tree part of the tree? Are the algae growing on
and underneath the tree part of the tree? Now let s consider the spiritual aspects of the tree... The

In the Middle Ages, hospice was a place where sick or weary travelers would stay while a long

hospice is very much part of that change (Stair, 1998).
For many years our society and the media has placed an image of death in our heads, of a painful

provided and patients can be placed up for medication and symptom management. Patients that are
able to visit relatives out of town and still be covered under what the program call courtesy
coverage . Patients are also assigned to hospice programs depending on their illness, the type of
cancer, and any other chronic conditions and they provide treatments needed (Byrock, 1998).
Care also can be provided in the place that the person chooses to call home whether that is their
home or a friend or family member s home. Insurance s including Medicare and Medicaid, cover
hospice 100%, which mean the patient and/or family members does not have out of pocket
expense, providing a sense of security and relief. The hospice program has an average cost of $200
per day and covers all the services provided to the patient.
How do we know a hospice care is needed for a patient? When physicians after exhausting all
available treatments and the patient is considered terminally ill, is when hospice care is suggested
is the best option. The physician certifies that a patient is appropriate for hospice care, and the

Who Is Eduardo RecifeВґs Misprinted Type
Misprinted Type is a type foundry based in Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil. This type foundry was
created in 1998 by Eduardo Recif. To understand the designs behind the typeface, you must first
know about the creator, Eduardo Recife. From there you can then understand the creations of
Misprinted Type and its influence on the more modern Grunge Typography. Eduardo Recife is an
artist, illustrator, and typographer. Most of his artwork and illustrations are collage based. Within
his artwork, Recife adds a mixture of narrative drawings, stains, textures, and hand lettering to
create a retro and vintage piece of artwork. Recife decided to create his own typefaces in 1997, at
first for himself. The then figured it would be good to let others use it, so he distributed it online.
He then thought to name the foundry Misprinted Type , after the name of his first typeface (Aloa).

attack: XSS has a big impact on different websites. The type of attacks that can be done using

2)Hack Admin Accounts 3)Identity theft. Also, it is very difficult to track the origin of attack

Adolescents Alcohol
The adolescent period of a human is the developmental phase of child to adult. During this time
in a human s life the entire body is developing rapidly, there are many factors that can affect the
natural development. Alcohol is one of the most common depressants used and abused by
adolescents which can alter the development of the body, especially the development of the
brain. When data from the World Health Organization s Global Burden of Disease study were

Unconditoinal Positive Regard Pros And Cons

Unconditional positive regard a concept developed by the late psychologist Carl Rogers back in
the 1960 s. Unconditoinal positive regard is to accept and respect others without judgement and I
would argue a determining factor in the rapport building process; it is a key element of our work
as therapists, both in the office and out in the field of our adventure therapy programs.
As Will recently mentioned in a previous blogpost, uncondtional positive regard and genuine
warmth are the best relationship building tools we have. As research strongly suggests, relationship
factors (alliance) between therapist and client make up to 30% of the key elements for positive
outcomes. Studies also suggest that a huge number of people report

The Freedom to the Choice of Abortion
We all live our lives as we please all in accordance to the law, but when it comes to abortion
people start to judge and try to regulate how others live and interfere in their personal choices. We
live in a country based on freedoms, and women have and should continue to have the freedom to
the choice of an abortion. A woman s right to choose abortion is a fundamental right recognized by
the US Supreme Court. The courts also have a category of classes called the near suspect classes,
which include gender. Gender deserves protection from possible discrimination at the hands of the
majority. Women constitute a majority of American s and have been discriminated in the past. The
Landmark case Roe v. Wadewas decided and remains the law of the land. Making laws against
abortions don t stop abortions from happening; they just make it less safe, which in many cases
leads to death. Therefore idea of supporting pro life is contradictory, this is why the nation should
be pro choice. No child should be brought into this world where they are not wanted or are not
able to live a normal life. Most people who are against abortion will never even become pregnant,
so they should not be making laws against it. Pregnancy is a private and personal matter. Outlawing
abortion is discriminatory and unfortunately abortions are being transformed from a right to a
privilege for most women.
Abortion represents a woman s right to choose whether or not to continue a pregnancy, and this is a

Chuck Berry is known by many as the Father of rock n roll. Berry was born in St. Louis Missouri

the way for Chuck to tell people to leave me alone because he s been trying to get his life

song is very energetic and it made me want to dance. The next two songs on the album are called
Carol and Maybelline . Both of them are named after females. Carol has a very Hawaiian/beachy
feel to it. It sounds upbeat and groovy, but the lyrics kind of sound like a advice. For example,
Oh, Carol, don t let him steal your heart away. If feels like he s talking to younger girls about
being careful around men. I think this is something a high school girl in the 50 s would listen to.
Maybelline on the other hand has a very country/hillbilly feel to it. Sounds like a fun song to listen

Today, anyone can use a camera to capture a photo with a single click in a single second. However;
this type of advanced camera was nonexistent during the renaissance when photographers were
using camera obscuras to project inverted images of the things that were outside the of the obscura.
It wasn t until the 19th century that the development of the chemical needed to capture an actual

it took to register a single image made photographynearly impossible. For instance, Joseph

During the 19th century, there were several technological improvements that made photography a

were not pretty. Even paying for a quick $20 manicurenever really helped. So I turned to my great
source and knowledgeable pal, Google. Here are some quick tips I would like to share.
1. Do Not Wash Your Hands
I always thought you were to wash your hands and nails prior to applying your nail color to get rid
of any debris or polish remover. However, this can cause your nails and cuticles to trap moisture
which will later help promote your polish to chip. Instead, I would recommend taking a cotton ball
and applying some rubbing alcohol to help remove any debris from your nails. ... Show more

Florence Nightingale
Colleen Worth Florence Nightingale January 28, 2008
Throughout history, wars have emphasized the need for nurses. During the Crimean War (1854
1856), the deficiency of care given to soldiers led to a public outcry in Great Britain. Florence
Nightingale played an impressive role in addressing this problem.
Florence Nightingale was born in Italy on May 12, 1820 into a rich, upper class, wealthy and
intellectual family. She believed she was called by God to help others and to improve the well
being of mankind. She was determined to become a nurse despite societal restrictions and
opposition from her family. She received three months of training in nursing in Kaiserwerth in
1847. After studying in Paris with the Sisters of Charity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She used this money to develop the Nightingale Training School for Nurses, which opened in 1860.
Its graduates traveled to other countries to manage hospitals and institute nurse training programs
(Kozier, 2004).
Florence Nightingale defined nursing as the act of utilizing the environment of the patient to assist
him in his recovery (Kozier, 2004). Nightingale considered a clean, well ventilated, and quiet
environment essential for recovery. She linked health with five environmental factors: pure or fresh
air, pure water, efficient drainage, cleanliness, and light. She believed that deficiencies in these five
factors produced lack of health or illness. She also stressed the importance of keeping the client
warm, maintaining a noise free environment, and attending to the client s diet (Kozier, 2004).
Florence Nightingale was considered the pioneer of modern nursing. She sets an example for
nurses everywhere of compassion and commitment to patient care. Throughout her life she
continued to improve health standards. In recognition of her hard work she was awarded the
Royal Red Cross in 1883 by Queen Victoria. She received many honors throughout her life
including the Order of Merit in 1907 (Florence Nightingale Museum Trust, 2003).

Gamelan Gong Kebyar Essay
Gamelan Gong Kebyar
Gamelan is thought to come form a Javenese word gamel, which means to handle (Sumarasam

instrument that dominate gamelan ensemble because of the way the instruments are made and

Kebyar literally means to burst up like a flower or to flare up like a match. In the book Music in
Bali, McPhee say that Kebyar can be said to be refer to cymbals and their metallic crash and the
explosive unison attack in gamelan music. (McPhee, 1966:328)
A general structure of Kebyar music is in the form of KPP. KPP is an abbreviation of
Kawitan(introduction), Pengawak(the main body) and Pengecek(conclusion). This concept are
said to be derived from culturally valued dimensions of threeness such as the concept of tri angga
(an anthropomorphism referring to the head, torso and legs), three courtyards of the Balinese
temple, the tri loka(upper, middle and lower worlds of existence) and others. Like sonata allegro,
KPP is mainly associated with a restricted classical repertoire. (Tenzer,2000:354). McPhee describes
that pengawak is essentially static in form and mood, the Pengecet is dynamically progressive,
passing through successive phases of rising rhythmic tension. (McPhee,1966:83)
Instrumentation in a Balinese Gong Kebyar is divided into 3 categories defined by its construction
and materials which are the Metallaphones, Gongs, and miscellaneous. (Tenzer,2000 :40) When all
of these instruments combines, it can range up to 5 octave. Gangsa are Metallaphones with bronze

Abstract
It has been 9 years since Google entered China Market officially, and 5 years since Google
established Google China. Despite having a brand value of an amazing $66.4 billion, Google.cn
still fails to dominate the search engine market in mainland China and faces stiff competition from
bitter rival Baidu. In other words, Baidu s market share in China is nearly 75 percent to Google
China s 25 percent. The secret to Baidu s success and Google s failure is largely positioning.

Hence, Baidu.com is easier to remember than Google.cn.
Inability to control sensitive content. The Great Firewall is extremely sensitive when it comes to
pornography contents. The reason of blocking Google International is that netizens in China can
search pornography images via Google Images when the default setting of SafeSearch is off. In
contrast, Baidu has a strong filter to sieve out any unsuitable content that displeasure the Chinese
government. As a result, it s almost impossible to search any sensitive content on Baidu. Google
failed because government would not care about its position when all of us have to face the laws.
In China, consumers rely on blogs and other user generated consumer reporting when deciding what
to buy, mainly because they trust word of mouth much more than any blatant advertising campaign.
So it should come as no surprise that they re also very active participants, leaving more than twice
the amount of comments their peers elsewhere post.
The key issues and the lessons
China is a complicated market, more so with the media industry. The Chinese government retains
far more control over media, the press, and the internet than any other economy at a similarly

Chinese internet users do not like to type, perhaps due to the fact that Mandarin has many
thousands of characters. They navigate almost entirely by using the mouse. This may look cluttered

The Role Of Settler Colonization And Its Negative...
In April 1995 Pamela George, an Ojibway women, was brutally murdered in Saskatchewan. Her
murderers Steven Kummerfield and Alex Ternowetsky, young middle class white men, were
convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to merely six and a half years in prison. George s
story is one of the many Indigenous women who have been murdered or missing over the past
years. There are over 580 cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women, close to half are put
aside and left unsolved. Only 53% of these cases have lead to charges of homicide (Klement 8).
Drastically, statistics indicate that Aboriginals are faced with more hardships throughout their life
compared to the average Canadian. Indigenous groups, particularly women, suffer from a lower
rate of education, higher suicide rates and an array of health risks. This paper will examine the role
settler colonization history has played in perpetuating conditions for violenceto indigenous women,
many of which are still experienced today. This will be accomplished by first assessing the history
of settler colonization and its negative repercussions. Secondly, it will use Sherene Razak s concept
of spatial segregation, to illustrate how state institutions have facilitated violence through space,
race and the law. Lastly, this paper will use evidence from the film Finding Dawn to further
demonstrate how violence towards indigenous women is institutionally produced.

Dr. Faulkner
August 3, 2016 The successes, or lack of success, of an American president is tied to the
effectiveness of their presidential leadership. President Harry Truman served the American people
as president from 1945 to 1953; he became president suddenly after the death of Franklin D.
Roosevelt amidst the end of World War II. Truman s presidency would carry into the aftermath of
World War II and see the beginning of the Cold War
. A tenacious man, he led the country from
isolation into the beginning of modern American foreign policy. Ferrell argued that Truman may be
second only to Abraham Lincoln as one of the greatest presidents. Winston Churchill said of
President Truman, You, more than any other man, have saved Western civilization. Harry Truman s
presidential leadership style proved to be effective and places him among the top American
presidents. Presidential leadership is more than just charisma, a president s personal qualities,
particularly his energy and competence, make all the difference. Using Freud s psychological

The And Female Characters Of Candide
The IA Essay
How do the experiences of the women in Candide differ from those of the men? How do their
reactions to those experiences differ from those of the men?
Most of Voltaire s characters were able to explain why they could consider themselves as the most
unhappy by providing a story of what had occurred to them. Their experiences vary from natural to
man made misfortunes. However, even though, the characters reactions to their misfortunes are of a
similar, the experiences between the male and female characters of Candide are quite different in
regards to what is taken away from them.
Throughout the novel we follow, the main character, Candide, through his journey of reuniting
with his beloved Cunegonde. The journey was very dangerous because throughout the novel,
Candide was flogged, forced into an army, shipwrecked, betrayed, robbed, and separated from his
love Cunegonde, and tortured by the Inquisition. Most of Candide s misfortunes was mostly of
robbery and abuse. Throughout the journey, Candide was able to acquire love and wealth.
Though, both things were taken away from him. Cunegonde and Candide were separated
frequently ever since that kiss they shared. As for the wealth, Candide kept flaunting it around and
spent a lot of it unwisely. Therefore, the villainous characters in the novel were able to notice that
Candide was a fool and noticed that robbing some of his wealth would be an easy task for them.

Reconstruction did not fundamentally alter this nation. Not to say that nothing happened, but

They also called for any officials to swear an oath of allegiance to the union.2 After Lincoln s
assassination, and Johnson s inaugeration these plans changed. Johnson pardoned all the
southern leaders that were in trouble for seceding from the union. This effectively put them
back in power in the South. Ultimately everything that congress and Lincoln had tried to do in
the south. Taking back the power from those who seceded. As well as any help that was given to
the poor whites or any blacks in the south was undone by Johnson. One of the biggest ways the
reconstruction efforts failed was with giving equal rights to the black community. Although the
slaves were freed it was very conditional freedom. The creation of Black codes made it seem like
they were free. These codes made it possible for black families to remain intact. It also gave
blacks the right to sue in court, and own property. This seems like progressive thinking at the
time. The big problem with these codes is what they denied blacks. Blacks could not testify
against whites. They could not own guns, or travel without permits. Although slavery had ended
blacks were still being controlled. Without slaves to work in the fields the plantation owners
needed workers. A lot of them would rent out their land to newly freed blacks. In exchange these
poor blacks would have to give up 2/3 of their crop.3 The rest would be used to pay off their debts.

U.S. Pharmaceutical of Korea
Case Study 3
Abstract:
This case is about US Pharmaceuticals of Korea (USPK). US Pharmaceuticals of Korea sells
throughout Korea because there are no selling restrictions, only that the sellers they use have a
business license and a tax ID. A wholesaler has created a drug that helps to control sever cases of a
debilitating disease. They were reluctant to market it, but because the drug could help those
afflicted with it, they decided to market it anyway. Due to this, the marketingdepartment is looking
for a distributing strategy. Tom Sloane is the marketing manager for USPK and he would like to

2. How would you handle the distribution problem?
This is harder to regulate, to successfully control distribution, price regulation would be effective.
This is what Tom Sloan would like to see more of; problem is it is a large range to control. We
are talking about regulating prices for wholesalers and retailers. Not to mention that competition
is natural, everyone wants to be the one that makes the sale. The drug peddlers are also a huge
part of the distribution problem. I think that what could really help would be for the government
to pass laws and distribution and to make everyone go through them to prove they are
complying, maybe by having to turn over financials quarterly for review and being fined if they
don t comply. Without help, it think the best thing to do would be to regulate who you sale to
and how much you sell for, to regulate your own distribution by controlling your selling prices
and customers. Also, I think it would help to properly market your product. Drug peddlers won t
really have a leg to stand on with a reputable company if they feel they don t offer a good product,
place you a head above. 3. Can anything be done through firms in the industry to improve the
situation?
I say cut out the middle man, make more direct sales. Stop using wholesalers and deliver directly.
I think by making more personal sales, face to face, that it will improve selling. I think that if the

The Importance Of Leniency On Permit Requirements
Leniency on Permit Requirements Then, FWC s permit requirements are lenient on agriculture,
silviculture, and in the 10 or Fewer On Site permit. Agricultural activities such as tilling, planting,
harvesting, and roller chopping do not require a permit even if there are gopher tortoise burrows
in the area ( Gopher Tortoise Permitting Guidelines , 2017). The same guidelines are applicable
for silviculture, even though silviculture activities have the possibility of degrading the habitat
type tortoises require. The 10 or Fewer On Site permit is forgiving for what is considered suitable
habitat left on site. Suitable habitat on site is defined as set aside areas that are not disturbed by
construction activities and provides a safe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Relocating wildlife can cause stress (and thus compromise their immune system), expose them to
an area where they have no experience, expose them up to territory disputes, expose them to the
risk that recipient sites may not be completely suitable, and spread disease ( Relocating Wildlife ,
n.d.). Although RRT [Relocation, Repatriation, and Translocation] programs may work under
certain circumstances, they should not be used unless all parties involved are prepared to make
the necessary commitment (Dodd and Seigel, 1991, p. 347). If relocations are going to be a
primary conservation effort for the gopher tortoise, then increasing research on relocated gopher
tortoise populations must be a priority. Overall, the FWC s management goal is to increase the
gopher tortoise population. So, information on the long term welfare of the relocated populations
is imperative. The downsides to the long term data collection and research required is the
resources needed. Lack of Research and Data Next, inadequate data is a hinderance to the proper
management of the gopher tortoise. The management plan estimates that Florida s current gopher
tortoise habitat is 3.3 million acres, with an estimated 785,000 gopher tortoises ( Gopher Tortoise
Management Plan , 2012). However, the data presented in the 2012 Gopher Tortoise Management
Plan was calculated from GIS data that was collected in 2003. This is problematic considering that

depicted in the hit movies Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, and Minions work hard and don t

Obama, who says that minions stand for every ideal that America was built on (Kevin 53). The
problem is that minions only work for villains with nefarious plans of taking over the world. In
American society, studies found that 99% of the people feel like henchmen to the biggest
companies in all sectors of society, from Walmart to Wall Street (Bob 17). The relationship between
the minions and villains bears many similarities to the modern economic and political system of
America. The Despicable Me movie franchise is a comprehensive representation of capitalismin

Case Study Of Vodacom Lesotho
The information shown in the table above, shows clearly that Vodacom Lesotho is growing sig

the marketing mix strategy used by the company.
Notes:
Total customers are based on the total number of mobile customers registered on Vodacom s
network, who have not been disconnected, including inactive customers, as at the end of the pe riod

When we look at the trend in the figures for Active customers and Mobile SIM penetration % we
can see that they increase rapidly each year. These two figures reflect an increase in the number of
customers each year. The information in this graph also shows Vodacom s success in manipu lating
it s marketing mix so that it attracts more customers. The company was successful enough to
reach a maximum of 1.3 million active customers in 2014 from 0.7 million in 2010. It also moved

Psychoalysis In Oedipus
Sophocles Oedipus is a renowned tragedy which hasn t lost its bite even to this day. It has
multiple alternate titles including Oedipus the King and Oedipus Tyrannous . In the play Oedipus,
king of Thebes, having heard that his city is being ravaged by fire and plague, sends his brother in
law Creon to find a remedy from the oracle of Apollo at Delphi. When Creon returns Oedipus
commences to investigate the death of his predecessor, Laius, and discovers through various
accounts that he himself was the one who had unknowingly killed Laius and then wed his own
mother, Jocasta. In reaction to this news, Oedipus is mortified to the fullest extreme mutilating his
eyes, and leaving the court. Jocasta commits suicide, and the tragedy takes its full course. Sigmund
Freud, a renowned father of modern psychology, cerebrates this, as in his view his psychoanalysis
illuminated the relevancy and power of the play, rather than the other way around. Sophocles is
able to reflect the edifications of psychoanalysis in Oedipus . Freud s Oedipus Complex is very
consequential in Sophocles Oedipus for giving a psychoanalytical reading on it. The Oedipus
complex was his theory of mind, and as such he asserted that present day mental illnesses were
related to this complex. The Oedipus complex is predicated on Freud s observation that children
are seen commonly to have fallen in love with one parent and developed an abhorrence for the
other. According to Freud, Oedipus

Analysis Of The Overlook Hotel
The Overlook Hotel is shown through extreme long shots throughout the movie. This is done to
establish the setting surrounding the hotel and make the viewer feel a sense of isolation. This
adds to the overall tone of the movie, as when things start to take a turn, the viewer feels a sense
of helplessness. At the beginning of the film, the hotel is introduced after a montage is shown of
a car driving down a long, windy road, surrounded by miles of trees, bodies of water, and
mountains. While these nature shots are being shown, unsettling music plays in the background.
This montage establishes a sense of isolation and makes the viewer feel how far and out of the
way one must travel in order to get to the hotel. Once inside the hotel, there are many high angle
shots and large rooms shown. However, as the film progresses and things take a turn for the worse,
the shots are eventually more confined, creating the sense of being trapped and isolated.
Both diegetic and non diegetic sounds are used to make The Shining have a much creepier tone. One
non diegetic sound is the music that is played at the beginning of the film. The music is high
pitched and whistle like, but also dramatic. This makes the film chilling from the start and makes
the audience aware that something is going to go wrong at the hotel. Another non diegetic sound
that occurred was when Danny was riding his tricycle through the halls and turned a corner to see
the twin daughters standing at the end of the hall. When

The Drinking Age Of The United States

two innocent conductors who had their lives grasped from them by a 17 year old girl who was

Even though the legal age to start drinking in the United States is twenty one, most teenagers tend
to start drinking beforehand. These teenagers drink more heavily than adults do; therefore,
developmental issues tend to be a factor that may affect a teenager s system if they drink throughout

Regardless, these magazines are attainable to people of all ages and can be a negative influence
for young adults. The key factor that advertisers of alcoholic beverages should consider is that
children can indeed come across these magazines. Young people from ages twelve to twenty are
several times more likely to see alcohol advertisements than adults would during this time period
(Hopkins n.pag.). Magazines and advertisements illustrate the consumption of alcohol and they try
to enrapture the mind of children.
Regarding this time period as well, teenagers of the 21st century rely on social media and
advertisements in their decision making (Hopkins n.pag.). When a troubled teen has personal
problems, they seek shelter on drugs and alcohol to get themselves distracted until they ponder
about situations that they have seen on advertisements to help them forget or efface their

are more exposed to alcohol advertising than adults over the age of 35 (Hopkins n.pag.). Seventy
percent of what industries advertise is more likely to be seen by teenagers instead of adults who

the dangers of drinking in their articles or magazines.
Equally important, if one happens to have a 0.08% alcohol level while driving, the person is

Korea Research Paper
Their primary goal was to once for all rid the Korean leadership from their dependency and
influences forced upon them by China and Russia. Once they took control of the peninsula they
intended to use it as a buffer against Russian, Chinese, and other Western influences.
In 1894, a rebellion broke out in Korea. The Chinese government sent 2,000 troops to Seoul. Japan
immediately occupied Pusan and Chemulpo Bay (Incheon) in Korea. China quickly gained control
of the uprising and asked Japan to withdraw their troops from the peninsula with the
understanding that they would do the same. The Qing s request met with resistance in Tokyo.
Japanese leadership expressed concerns over Korea s weaknesses and they worried that other
Western nations, especially Russia, would attempt to gain access to Korea. Japan asked the Qing
leadership to institute specific reforms in Korea. The reforms mirrored the Japanese Meiji styled
government. China refused to comply by stating, The affairs of Korea were of no concern to Japan.

Death Of A Salesman By Willy Loman
After all the highways, and the trains, and the appointments, and the years, you end up worth
more dead than alive. This is said by Willy Loman in Act 2 of the play Death of a Salesman.
Willy is a 63 year old man who has been a salesman for 34 years working for the same company.
As he ages, his sales decrease due to his lack of strength and pep. The opening quote is Willy
reflecting on his worthlessness of all the years that he spent working. Once Willy gets fired he
feels as though he has nothing left. This is not how Willy pictured his life and this ends up
alienating him from himself and also his family. According to Karl Marx, capitalismit the cause for
this alienation. Capitalism is seen as the American Dream with so many possibilities to become
a success. Marx does not see capitalism this way. In fact, he sees it as the exact opposite. Rather
than living a meaningful life, Marx thinks that because of capitalism that people live an
alienated life. He thinks that we are dominated by impersonal powers and that people do not
have control over their own life when capitalism is in the way. Marx says, the positing of social
activity, the consolidation of our product as a real power over us, growing out of our control.
Marx imagines society pre and post capitalism and sees it as a better place. He thinks that if we
drastically reorganized our economic system, alienation could be abolished. One of Marx s biggest
claims is that because of work, people stress themselves

Stylistic Elements In The Wizard Of Oz
A film depends on the involvement and receptiveness of the audience. It is the minds of the
audience that determine the enjoyment of watching a film. As human beings, we are known to be a
species that are fundamentally seeking patterns. We attempt to create logical connections between
different events or elements and invest our own meaning in neutral objects and occurrences. We
can create structure and form, as well as interpret it. As such, we all possess a remarkable talent for
both telling and understanding films. It is in this sense that watching a film is an activity where the
mind is actively engaged with the work, making connections and associations in an effort to bring

The Wizard of Oz has revealed to be an exceptionally well thought out film when analysed. The
film has made use of stylistic elements such as colour, light, sound and mise en scene which
coincide with the various twists and turns of the plot as Dorothy moves from Kansas, to Oz, and
back again. In The Wizard of Oz, the director, Victor Fleming, has employed the use of different
unique editing techniques despite being an early film. It is obvious that the audience is able to
notice the absence of colour in the beginning and ending of the film. The audience identifies the

Piccoli, in his textbook, defines exchanges as Exchanges are organizations that create a marketplace for buyers and sellers to come together and transact. Thus, an exchange does not take control of inventory or worry about fulfillment. Rather the exchange provides a market making service and is compensated with fees, commission on sales, or consulting fees on more complex business to businesstransactions. The prototypical example of an exchange is eBay. Others include Alibaba.com and Ariba both mainly targeting the business to business domain. (Piccoli, pg 170) Principally, Alibaba is a Chinese business to business e commerce company. Alibaba focuses on suppliers and buyers trading both domestically and internationally. Detention is a disciplinary action that tells the student they made a bad choice with their behavior. However, it does not teach the student how to make betterbehavior choices. Detention has been around for many years as the solution for disruptive and ill behaved children, however; the rise in diagnosed anxiety disorders among teenagers is 25%. With suicide now the third leading cause of death among young teenagers, (Lynch, 2016) it is clear, detention is not the solution to the problem. In the passage, 518d, Plato discusses the true meaning of education vicariously through Socrates. Some literary mechanisms can be found in the passage and I will show how they fit in the text and how they contribute to the main themes of Platos Republic. In Book VII Socrates has finished listening to other opinions and is now formulating a response. The oration is an excerpt from an intellectual conversation between Socrates and Glaucon. The goal of the dialogue is to reach a viable explanation of education. Simile is used in the passage when Socrates compares the instrument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the allegory Socrates gives an account of a man that breaks free from his bonds and makes his way out of the darkness into the outside world. His story represents a man s journey to enlightenment. To reach enlightenment a man must use education to break the bonds of ignorance and direct his sight towards true things that originate from the Form of Good. Man already has the capacity to see, he only needs guidance. Guidance is the job of the philosopher kings. After these kings have reached enlightenment it is their duty to travel back into the cave and educate some of the ignorant masses. Socrates says that wherever sight is set is what will be seen with the most clarity. If a man doesn t have his sight set on the right things, he can still be very clever but his sight is forced to serve evil ends, so that the sharper it sees, the more evil it accomplishes. (519a). Plato s Republic is a blueprint for his ideal society. In his republic education is something only attainable to the philosopher kings. It is beneficial for the philosopher kings to be very well educated so they will make good decisions while they are ruling the republic. The reason that no one else should receive such an elaborate education (in Plato s opinion) is because the rest of the people in the city only need to do what they are specialized in. • 14. Essay about Geoffrey of Monmouth s Life of Merlin Geoffrey of Monmouth s Life of Merlin Geoffrey of Monmouth s Life of Merlin is a text that makes its readers struggle with finding criteria for madness. What does it even mean to be mad? Madness seems to define a person only when he or she does something to stray from the normality of any given group of people. Breaking societal norms often leaves people open to criticism and suspicion. In order to be sane and mentally healthy, one has to abide by all explicit and implicit rules of society. Life of Merlin is about a man that abandons feudal society, and all of its rules, in hopes of finding a better place to live. A better place to live, for him, is one that is purely good. Violent and deceitful people are ultimately the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This thought leaves him to blame the humans responsible for it. Merlin claims that whole kingdoms feared the same men that died. Therefore, people within the kingdom are responsible for such slaughter, not fate alone. Fear was the driving force that ultimately led to violence. It is on this logical basis that Merlin fears humanity. If fear alone can drive humans to kill other humans, then Merlin fears for his life and the life of others. Logical considerations, rather than mad ideas, compel Merlin to abandon feudal society. If one sees Merlin as sane and logical, then one might even begin to see the people of the kingdom as mad. This leaves the reader with the possibility that the society surrounding Merlin is mad, not Merlin himself. Besides Merlin s logic for leaving, for fear of a violently mad society, the reader can also see how the deceptive nature of humans in feudal society is reasonable enough for leaving. Merlin s summary of a doorman s life gives the reader a better explanation of how much his extra worldly perception haunts him. Merlin explains, The doorman in front of the gates was sitting in shabby clothes and was begging passers by to give him money or buying clothes. Yet all the time he was secretly rich, for he had a secret hoard of coins under him (79). Most people would walk by the doorman and believe him to be a true poor person. Merlin, however, has ... Even though I am Hispanic American, my parents never truly exposed me to my Mexican culture. This assignment seemed like the perfect opportunity to connect with elements of my heritage. My parents were born and raised in downtown Joliet, so I went to them to ask them where the best place would be to go find those types of experiences. They told me that the East side of Joliet would be my best chance of experiencing a new cultural experience. The following day, I decided to take a trip to this region. As I came closer to approaching the East side, I noticed that the surroundings around me started changing quite drastically. A great percentage of signs posted on billboards and businesses were written in Spanish. No English on the signs was visible anywhere either. I also noticed that great amount of businesses that were being run by Hispanic men. Considerably much greater than any businesses located in my neighborhood. First, the occupied world consists of things, each an accumulation of the threads of life, and not of objects which are considered as bounded, independent and absolute entities. Per Ingold (2010: 2) To create things, per Aristotle, involves a bringing together of a form (morphe) and matter (hyle) . To illustrate this, let s consider Vitraya Ramunong or The Tree of Souls (Avatar,2009). Where do the Tree of Souls end and the rest of Pandora begin? Even though the question sounds quite simple, it is not easily answered. We can look at the physical aspects first. Is the giant Willow like tree s bark part of the tree? Are the organisms occupying the bark part of the tree? Are the woodsprites, or seeds, part of the tree? Are the creatures occupying the tree part of the tree? Are the Na vi clans who occupy the tree part of the tree? Is the unobtanium deposit underneath the tree part of the tree? Are the algae growing on and underneath the tree part of the tree? Nightingale considered a clean, well ventilated, and quiet environment essential for recovery. She linked health with five environmental factors: pure or fresh air, pure water, efficient drainage, cleanliness, and light. She believed that deficiencies in these five factors produced lack of health or illness. She also stressed the importance of keeping the client warm, maintaining a noise free environment, and attending to the client s diet (Kozier, 2004). (McPhee, 1966:328) A general structure of Kebyar music is in the form of KPP. KPP is an abbreviation of Kawitan(introduction), Pengawak(the main body) and Pengecek(conclusion). This concept are said to be derived from culturally valued dimensions of threeness such as the concept of tri angga (an anthropomorphism referring to the head, torso and legs), three courtyards of the Balinese temple, the tri loka(upper, middle and lower worlds of existence) and others. In contrast, Baidu has a strong filter to sieve out any unsuitable content that displeasure the Chinese government. As a result, it s almost impossible to search any sensitive content on Baidu. Her murderers Steven Kummerfield and Alex Ternowetsky, young middle class white men, were convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to merely six and a half years in prison. George s story is one of the many Indigenous women who have been murdered or missing over the past years. There are over 580 cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women, close to half are put aside and left unsolved. Only 53% of these cases have lead to charges of homicide (Klement 8). Drastically, statistics indicate that Aboriginals are faced with more hardships throughout their life compared to the average Canadian. Indigenous groups, particularly women, suffer from a lower rate of education, higher suicide rates and an array of health risks. This paper will examine the role settler colonization history has played in perpetuating conditions for violenceto indigenous women, many of which are still experienced today. This will be accomplished by first assessing the history of settler colonization and its negative repercussions. Secondly, it will use Sherene Razak s concept of spatial segregation, to illustrate how state institutions have facilitated violence through space, race and the law. Lastly, this paper will use evidence from the film Finding Dawn to further demonstrate how violence towards indigenous women is institutionally produced. Ultimately everything that congress and Lincoln had tried to do in the south. Taking back the power from those who seceded. As well as any help that was given to the poor whites or any blacks in the south was undone by Johnson. One of the biggest ways the reconstruction efforts failed was with giving equal rights to the black community. Although the slaves were freed it was very conditional freedom. The creation of Black codes made it seem like they were free. These codes made it possible for black families to remain intact. It also gave blacks the right to sue in court, and own property. This seems like progressive thinking at the time. The big problem with these codes is what they denied blacks. Blacks could not testify against whites. They could not own guns, or travel without permits. Although slavery had ended blacks were still being controlled. Without slaves to work in the fields the plantation owners needed workers. Not to mention that competition is natural, everyone wants to be the one that makes the sale. The drug peddlers are also a huge part of the distribution problem. I think that what could really help would be for the government to pass laws and distribution and to make everyone go through them to prove they are complying, maybe by having to turn over financials quarterly for review and being fined if they don t comply. Without help, it think the best thing to do would be to regulate who you sale to and how much you sell for, to regulate your own distribution by controlling your selling prices and customers. Also, I think it would help to properly market your product. At the beginning of the film, the hotel is introduced after a montage is shown of a car driving down a long, windy road, surrounded by miles of trees, bodies of water, and mountains.
