2. English Should Be the Official Language of the United States
English as the official language of the United States could benefit the U.S. Government and
America as a whole. America has long since been a multicultural nation and has been an English
speaking nation since it was founded. The constitutional and federal documents are all in English,
which furthers the American people, believing English should be our official language. The
majority of states already have English as their official language, for English has always provided
a much needed cohesion to our diverse citizens since it was founded.
Being made of diverse peoples, and being able to continue to use your own language may seem
preferable as we encourage individuality and do not want anyone to disappear into the soup. This

The army and federal court system already operate in English for practical reasons, and by having
an official language, the workings of the government would be more streamlined. Such a bill would
mostly apply to government policy and federal documentation, and would make it clear that unless
the government decides to provide it, no one is entitled to government services or documents in any
language other than English; if there is a communication issue with laws or regulations in more
than one language, English would take precedence. In a recent national survey, nearly two thirds of
Americans assumed that English was already the official language set by the United States
Constitution, according to the Associated Press, 1987. (James Crawford 1) The lobbyists U.S.

the electorate were needed to pass, and it is not surprising that it did pass. Illinois, Indiana,

ENGLISH 121 ESSAY 3
11/5/2014
Thesis and Support: On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner
Lars Eighners essay On Dumpster Diving describes the lifestyle of living out of a dumpster. Lars
demonstrates that anyone can achieve a fulfilling life without the constraints of society and material
wealth. He finds nearly everything he needs and sometimes more just from the refuse of others.
Firstly, what is dumpster diving? Dumpster diving is the practice of sifting through commercial or
residential waste in order to obtain items one might find useful that have been discarded by their
owners. Dumpster diving is largely associated with the homeless or people with little or no source
of income. In January 2013, 610,042 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also goes on in paragraph 39 to talk about drugs and medicine and how he often has to hoard
the essential ones. He mentions however that drugs should not be taken lightly without some
grounding in pharmacology, this further proved that he has been well educated in the past. In
Paragraph 53, he talked on how he often finds books, diaries and papers discarded by college
students. He remarks that he is horrified to discover the kinds of papers that merit and A, which
means he must have had experience with the grading system. However he adds that he is grateful
for the number of good books and magazines they toss out, this shows his appreciation for good
literature and speaks to his educated background.
Eighner showed his intelligence throughout the essay, from the words he used, to his in depth
knowledge on various foods and how to know if they are safe to eat or not. Eighner talked about
how he frequented neighborhoods associated with the wealthy (Paragraph 21) because the rich are
more wasteful and tend to throw out items with no real issues. His decision to scavenge in the more
prosperous neighborhoods struck me as one of an intelligent individual.
Discipline is another characteristic of Eighner that I would not have assumed any dumpster diver
would have. Paragraph 37 he talked about how he feels people who live off dumpsters should be
controlled. Since everything you

4. Public Education In The Film Waiting For Superman
There is an evident issue with the public schooling system in America today. Throughout the entire
country, kids are the victims of schools that fail to gift them with the knowledge that they need to
excel past high school. In lower class areas of the country, students are destined to become dropouts
because their educationsimply does not provide them a way out. In the film, Waiting for Superman,
director Davis Guggenheimclaims that schools are failing to meet beneficial education standards
for all students. Due to their demographic, children in lower class areas of the country do not have
access to the same educational opportunities that wealthier families receive. Throughout the film,
Guggenheim s use of music and pacing creates a powerful feeling of sympathy in the audience
towards the children that are not privileged to a better education because of their economic status.
By utilizing these devices, the film ultimately hopes to build on the audience s sympathy in order
to possibly ignite a change for the public education system in the United States. There are a variety
of ways in which music is used throughout this film, but the use of sad music and silence are the
two most important in terms of building a strong emotional appeal. By implementing these styles of
music, the film illustrates the emotional frustration within lower class students and parents who are
simply looking to find a beneficial education for their children. Melancholy music serves as an

5. Hurricane Mitch Effects
Introduction Natural disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, seaquakes, and volcanic eruptions
are all events that frequent the country of Nicaragua and its neighbors in Central America and the
Caribbean. But one of the most devastating natural disasters to affect the country, Hurricane Mitch,
has had a lasting effect on Nicaragua. There was an approximate of 3,000 deaths, 1,000 missing
persons, 900,000 injured persons. The hurricane caused damage to 50,000 homes, 340 schools, 90
health care centers, 40 health posts and 6 hospitals across the country (Christopolos, et al, 2010).
This paper will examine the conditions of Nicaragua before and after Hurricane Mitchand answer
the question, what man made factors played a role in the severe devastation of the country? First,
the paper will discuss the major hazardous natural events that occurred in the wake of Hurricane
Mitch and their effect on the country. Then the effect of human influence in geography, politics and
social structure will be analyzed. Finally, the paper dissect the socio economic effect Hurricane
Mitch had on the country of Nicaragua.
Hazardous Natural Event Though Hurricane Mitch never made direct landfall, the 50 inches of rain
it brought, led to lasting damage for the country of Nicaragua. Damage to infrastructure, roads, and

6. American Journalism Bias
American journalism started as a modest business until it was employed as a political instrument in
the effort for independence from Great Britain. After the Bill of Rights protected the freedom of the
press, the power of the media was recognized, and it expanded swiftly after the American
Revolution. During the nineteenth century, the penny press played a big part in the media with
cheap and mass produced newspapers which increased the growth of the press rapidly. Large
newspapers turned into lucrative stations where sectionalism, verity, muckraking, news and
promotion were prevalent. With the introduction of the radio and television, most of the American
Media became owned by big establishments and amalgamations. Although the United States...

However, the media, like every institution, is fallible to corruption and human error. It is open to
the whims and weaknesses of the humans who created it. Media bias is the notion that the press has
a subjective bias on how it reports the news and the incidents or affairs it chooses to report to the
public. Journalists can show bias by excluding significant information that can change how people
perceive a story. Journalists may also fail to mention details about themselves that can cause readers
to question their authenticity or reveal why they support a particular side. From the beginning of
the American media, bias has always existed. One of the first American newspaper, James Franklin
s the New England Courant , was aligned with party interest. James Franklin s brother, Benjamin
Franklin, used a pseudonym to criticize certain politicians ( PBS ). Pseudonyms were mainly used
when civilians attacked people of influence and wanted to avoid prison. During the fight for
American independence, newspapers like the American Gazette reported news in favor of the
patriots to gain more public support ( PBS ). As American journalismhas progressed, the media has
had to find new ways to keep the public interested. One of its ways is to focus on Sensationalism.
That is, reporting stories that bring controversy and alarm to the public. In Stephen J. Dubner and
Steven Levitt s book Freakonomics, they explain the concern the country had for the growing
crime rate in the 1900s. This concern was exacerbated by the mainstream media who predicted an
apocalypse where most of the teenagers would be violent criminals and walking outside would not
be safe. After the crime rate started dropping, some of these media personalities admitted that the

8. The First Wave Of Psychological Therapy
Mindfulness
The first wave of psychological therapy focused on the clinical application of behavior principles.
The second wave introduced cognition into therapy and linked the idea of irrational thoughts to
behavioral issues (Hayes, Follette, Linehan, 2004). The third wave is the most current theory which
focuses on traditional cognitive behavioral concepts with the addition of mindfulness techniques
and the acceptance of thoughts (Hayes, Masuda, Bissett, Luoma, Guererro, 2004). This third wave
of cognitive behavioral therapies includes such methods as acceptance and commitment therapy
(ACT; Hayes, Strosahl, Wilson, 1999), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT; Linehan, Armstrong,
Suarez, Allmon, Heard, 1991), mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT; Segal, Williams,
Teasdale, 2002), and mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR; Kabat Zinn, 1994). These various
techniques differ from traditional therapeutic methods in that they focus on accepting problematic
thoughts and emotions for what they are rather than trying to change the thoughts and emotions
(Greco Hayes, 2008, p.16).
What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness can be defined as focusing in the present through the self regulation of attention to
allow for increased awareness of one s mental events and experiences characterized by acceptance,
openness, and curiosity (Bishop, Lau, Shapiro, Carlson, Anderson, Carmody, et al., 2004, p. 232). A

However, according to De Botton and Nietzsche fulfillment is an illusion . Hardships are the
reason to our happiness. We should focus on avoiding pain not seeking pleasure . In other
words, happiness comes from the absence of happiness. You cannot be constantly happy and not
everyone understands happiness the same way. Because happiness itself cannot be defined as
an undeniable truth. It varies. However, there is some truths in it. Not long ago, my good friend
Kant and I were discussing this matter and he said to me something that I consider true. He said
that Happiness and Virtue are two distinct things. Happiness is not proportional to well doing
Only Virtue is good without any implications, no matter what it achieves. Gifts of nature such as
intelligence, qualities of temperament like courage or perseverance, are often good but may be
used for evil ends unless directed by a good will. Gifts of fortune which include riches and health
can also be used for good or ill. Even moderation and self control are not good in themselves but
require a good will . In other words, Happiness is not the Supreme Good. We thrive to live life
with Virtue. Happiness comes and goes. There are some aspects in architecture that do bring
happiness. But they do not last forever and that should be something to embrace instead of being
avoided. Hell, for most of my life I lived on the streets and have been overwhelmed by happiness

10. Power Of Words In Othello
In Othello words have the ability to steer the plot, to form characters identities and to engage the
audience as active participants in the play.
In Shakespeare s Othello, the lack of a narrator, empowers the words spoken by the characters to
such an extent that it directs the drama to the desired destination of the play. This essay will
serve as proof as the power of words will be discussed by, firstly, explaining the effect that words,
and the lack thereof, have on characters and ultimately on the plot. Thereafter, the use of certain
words to form perceived impressions of characters will be argued. Lastly, an elaboration on how
words are used to involve the audience in the play.
Words can have a positive or negative effect on characters (Kaleba Osherow, 2012), it can lead to a
character being confident or lead to the deterioration of a character s self concept (as seen in the
case of Othello). We see this in the first act when Othello does not hide from confrontation, but
instead invites Brabanzio to come. Not I. I must be found. My parts, my title, and my perfect soul

The fast food culture emerged as early as the 19th century. During the Industrial Revolution, a
large workforce was required to work for 10 to 12 hours a day. With so much work to be done, fast
food was the idea of a quick and easy lunch.
In India, fast food culture emerged in the decades after independence, starting from the 1950 s.
Eating at home used to be a significant aspect of Indian culture, so the change was gradual. Over a
period of time, with a growth in the number of nuclear families, economic growth and increasing
per capita income as well as globalization, fast food culture gained prominence. Women were

The Indians living in the cities have completely forgotten about their traditional Indian dishes and
took to the Western fast food culture. A survey conducted by a leading Indian newspaper says that
over 23 per cent of the children in Delhi are obese. One hopes that this estimate is not true; if it is,
one shudders to think of the numbers in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata, Gurgaon and
other nouveau riche cities with their fast prevailing mall culture and fast food attractions.
Here is a typical scene from one such mall in Hyderabad. It has a 4 movie multiplex theatre,
surrounded by 40 odd fast food kiosks and 20 odd shops that sell clothing, perfumes and
jewellery, music and video CDs and DVDs. Not one of them sells traditional Indian meals or
snacks. And the mall, like 20 others in the city, is filled with thousands of youngsters who
obviously have enough to spend. We did not have such scenes in India twenty years ago, but this
mall and fast food culture is expanding explosively across India. This too is part of the
globalization of India, a part that causes great concern about the health of its citizens.

need to continue developing technologies for space, it does not need the same funds as other

categories like science, exploration, and space operations.
The third category is exploration which will receive 27% of the budget. The exploration budget
will go to projects like space transportation systems and human missions to the moon and mars.
Projects such as these require a large portion of the budget due to their expensive nature, but
despite the cost, these missions gain public support. Without such missions, the public would not

these missions help gain an understanding of the universe. The fourth category is Aeronautics

20. Analysis Of The Campaign Game
Pg. 263 277
The Campaign Game
As a fun fact, the term campaign has its origins from the military as this was the name given for
when the general had a strategy towards accomplishing a big goal. o The whole point of a
campaign in politics is that the primary nominee must create their own image of exemplary
leadership and confidence so they gain more supporters as Election Day grows closer and closer. o
Technology also has started to play a major role within the political system of the United States as a
whole.
Back in the good old days, the way campaigns would work is that the primary nominees would
get their own train and travel the nation to speak and visit as many people as they possibly could
afford. o In today s world, the live television broadcasts of the nominee s campaign is the primary
way messages are spread to majority of the nation. o This has a bad side to it though because this
gives the media too much power and the media then begins to influence who to vote for rather than
the candidates themselves. o In addition to this, the creation the World Wide Web further increased
the amount of dependency campaigns have upon technology. o In fact, one of the very first things
primary nominees take the time to do is create a website so that the population are able to see their
stance on all the primary issues occurring.
The use of technology has also had a great impact upon the funding for these type of campaigns. o

Old school conquers new school: A personal response to An Ode to the User Friendly Pencil
Technology is upgrading itself and is, perhaps, taking over the world. From virtual reality to
supercomputers, people are depending more on technology in their everyday lives, but is it
necessary? Technology has reached the point where Samsung phones are becoming C4 explosives
and 4K televisions do not display 4K quality. In An Ode to the User Friendly Pencilby Bonnie
Laing, she explains how a simple pencil that we use in our everyday lives is better than a complex
computerthat is technologically advanced, and through her ironic tone and economic line of
reasoning, she gets that message across to her readers which I firmly agree on. In her essay, she
utilizes ironyto add a sarcastic tone in her essay, making the essay more enjoyable for readers to
read. An example of this is the use of computer jargon to explain why the pencil is the better tool.
Laing states how the software of a pencil is both cheap and simple (332) and how you can render it

more you use a computer, and I agree with that. A computer is not smart; instead, it is the exact
opposite. This is because without a user, a computer is just a sitting duck without the proper
programming. It needs to be programmed to perform certain tasks or it needs a user to give it
something to do in order to be useful, which is what software engineers do for a living. From

22. The Music Of Electronic Dance Music
Tracing as far back as the 1940s when sound pioneers began their own movement known as
musique concrete, sampling, evolved from simple sound collage. Now it has evolved to the act
of taking a portion of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or sound recording in a
different song or piece. Today it has become an integral part of many music genres today. Samples
often consist of one part of another song, such as a lyric or rhythm break, and used to create a beat
for another song.
The experimental musicians did not get permission from the artists whose work they were using or
from the copyright owner while they were using them to create their own music. It began getting
popular in hip hop when it was just played in local dance parties so they were not obligated to
receive copyright clearance in order to play this music at events. As the 1970s approached, DJs
were experimenting with vinyl by having two turntables and an audio mixer going at the same time
and manipulating them. Leading on into 1980s, electronic dance music was in the making and
picking up on sampling after being influenced by hip hop. It went on to spread to indie rock,
contemporary R B, and industrial music.
The digital sampler was invented after that to enable musicians to record any sound at the touch of
a button, making sampling simpler. Typical sample instruments consist of grand pianos, pipe
organs, violins, cellos, wind and percussion instruments. This can include voices and non traditional

23. Essay Jack the Ripper
AP English IV
Book Report
Jack the Ripper
Jack the Ripper was a notorious serial killer, whom some believe never even existed at all.
From August to November 1888, Jack the Ripper terrorized the East End of London by being
responsible for the death and mutilation of at least seven female prostitutes. The destitute East End
is also known as the White Chapel district of London, England. A few of the prostitutes were
targeted as they were leaving brothels in and around the White Chapel district. Jack the Ripper
seemed to be targeting drunken women who had no sense of time or what they were doing (Jack
the Ripper).

The rest of the responsibility lies with the Ripper. He may have been a sexual serial killer of a type
all too common in the 1990 s, but he was also bent on terrifying a city and making the whole
world take notice of him by leaving his horribly mutilated victims in plain sight. Lastly, the Ripper
was never caught and it is the mysteries surrounding this killer that both add to the romance of the
story and creating an intellectual puzzle that people still want to solve ( Ebsco host).
It is unclear just how many women the Ripper killed. It is generally accepted that he killed five,
though some have written that he murdered only four while others say seven or more. The public,
press, and even many junior police officers believed that the Ripper was responsible for nine
slayings. The five that are generally accepted are:
1. Mary Ann (Polly) Nichols murdered Friday, August 31 1888.
2. Annie Chapman, murdered Saturday , September 8, 1888.
3. Elizabeth Stride, murdered Sunday, September 30, 1888.
4. Catharine Eddowes, also murdered that same date.
5. Mary Jane (Marie Jeanette) Kelly, murdered Friday, November 9, 1888. Besides these five there
are good reasons to believe that the first victim was really Martha Tabram who was murdered
Tuesday, august 7, 1888, and there are important considerations for questioning whether Stride was
a Ripper victim. As to the actual number of women that the Ripper killed, there is no simple

24. The Main Difficulties With Multi Agency Partnerships
What are the main difficulties with multi agency partnerships in safeguarding children? Discuss
with reference to social science literature and official reports.
Safeguarding children can best be described as an action taken to promote the welfare of children
and protect them from harm, this involves protecting children from abuse and maltreatment and
preventing harm to children s health or development. (NSPCC, 2016).
Multi agency partnerships in safeguarding children look to identify the goals, circumstances and
needs of children, agencies must agree with both the contribution each agency will have Ensuring it
meets the every child matters guidelines, the main aims are to improve the sharing of information
between the agencies and Oversee arrangements for agencies to work collaboratively in the
commissioning, delivery and integration of services. (Cheminais R, 2009:2).
There are many benefits to working within a multi agency partnership, it not only allows for
professional views from different professionals from a variety of different professions but it also
allows for an individual to receive specifically tailored help top overcome their own situations in
regards to health and welfare, However despite the benefits to multi agency partnerships in
safeguarding children there are many difficulties that need to be acknowledged.

What does being a good citizen exactly mean? There are many factors that will affect if someone
is viewed as a one. Being considered a good citizen will depend on the country as every country
is unique and sees some aspects differently compared to others. The United States of America and
China share similarities and differences through their preamble, constitution, and citizenship.
Similarly, these countries use their preamble to create a broad proposal of what a good citizen is.
Both serve as a guide for what will be discussed in their constitution as well. In addition to this
each preamble has a part that explains where consent is derived from. Comparably they both
proclaim that the power comes from the people. The United States express the We the People of the
United States statement, whereas China claims that All power in the People s Republic of China
belongs to the people. These words are proof to both countries claim to be a democracy. A
functioning democracy is the form of government that provides its citizens with lots of freedom,
opportunity, and prosperity. Although there are several similarities, differences can be found in the
format or structure of the preambles. The United States preamble is significantly smaller compared

My immediate reaction was that of empathy for the children and their family members. It requires a

they have little control. The feelings and emotions displayed by the parents and children were gut
wrenching. The documentary clearly depicted the effects of a mental illness on the familysystem

members. In one example, the parents were even living in two separate homes which caused a
schism in the family relationship. The stress also effected the communication amongst family as
there was arguing, blaming, and accusations. The work and school environments were also
explored as one parent had taken a leave of absence from their job due to the high needs of their
daughter. The children s school environment was also effected as they had to miss several weeks
of school due to hospitalizations. This caused the grades of the children to suffer and also hindered
their ability to have normal routines . Another psychosocial factor explored was that of the
development of the children; it highlighted the parents experiences with the child as an infant and
spoke about the low propensity for children under the age of 18 to be diagnosed with schizophrenia.
The documentary, Living with Schizophrenia, also discussed many of the components of the
psychosocial environment. Furthermore, it added it information about drug use and also
highlighted the experiences of an adult, with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, who is living

made by microorganisms that prevent the growth of other microorganisms (Clardy et al).

The peptidoglycan coat in bacterial cells is formed by a crystal lattice structure that forms linear
chains from a pair of alternating amino acids. The cross linking of peptidoglycan strands by the
transpeptidase enzyme forms an uneven cell wall. Antibiotics, notably penicillin, interfere with this
cross linking, which destroys the bacteria cell wall. More specifically, antibiotics work by
attaching to specific sites on the ribosome, which affects with the bacteria s function during
protein synthesis. The small or 30S ribosomal subunit has binding sites for tRNA molecules.
These sites are known as the aminoacyl (A), peptidyl (P), and exit (E) sites. The process known as
decoding oversees base pairing between the codon of mRNA and the anticodon of tRNA at the A
site, allowing the 30S subunit to distinguish between the similarities of the tRNAs (Brodersen et
al). Because most antibiotics bind to ribosomes, its main target is the rRNA, which results in most
of the binding sites being near the mRNA and the tRNA binding sites, or at sites that undergo
structural rearrangements during the processes of decoding or translocation (Dallas et al). In all,
the antibiotic prevents the bacterium from creating its cell wall, which essentially kills the
bacterium (Brodersen et al).

uncommon to see public humiliation due to a crime. American policing has changed multiple times

The police officers that went into the public had to meet certain qualifications. The officer had to
act in a professional manner while in the public. Theses officers were even tempered and did not
lash out quickly with violence physically or verbally. These officers were trained to be a well
mannered, in control of oneself, and respectful officer. After gaining respect of the citizens Sir
Robert Peels next major task was preventing crime and establishing authority.
Preventing crime was the primary purpose for Sir Robert Peel and his associates. In order to
prevent crime the London Metropolitan Police Act needed to be approved by parliament. In 1829
the act was passed and Sir Robert Peel took advantage of this. This created a full time uniformed
police agency that would patrol the city with the effort of preventing crime from happening. With
the public now respecting officers and officers patrolling the streets that every citizen walked on
the police officers eventually gained a form of authority in the public. This authority came with the
training for the job and the citizens recognizing that the officer is there to help and prevent crime.

Albee is commenting that people need to foster their inner selves in addition to what they allow
others to see on the outside.
Another interesting piece of information that Jerry presents to Peter about the colored queen is
that he always leaves the door open when he is plucking his eyebrows. Not only does this
reinforce the fact that he is self absorbed and materialistic, but it tells something about the inside
of his persona as well. The act of plucking one s eyebrows is quite painful, and the fact that he
leaves his door open when committing this act of self mutilation reflects the idea that he wants
society to be aware of his inner pain and strife. People are constantly looking for sympathy and
for others to tell them that everything will be all right. The colored queen is no different. He
wants people to be aware that he feels pain. Keeping his door open shows that he, like the rest
society, is crying out for help, and wants to be noticed and cared for.
While the colored queen represents the part of society that wallows in their own self pity, Albee
points out through the use of other minor characters that there are other ways of avoiding pain, and
dealing with that pain. The Puerto Rican family that lives in Jerry s building tries to escape pain
instead of dealing with it or looking for help. Their method is avoidance. They avoid pain by
constantly having fun. Jerry mentions that they entertain a lot, and it

Hallam s tragic death has proved to be an event that provoked Tennysons embarkation upon a much
more ambitious poetic project than conventional Miltonian elegy, involving meditation upon the

Tennyson?s faith in his existence is weakened and he is only able to ?feel? and ?faintly trust,? not

Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God that you must help others to enter the Kingdom through his

visible in today s world through the actions of the individuals: Pope Francis and Martin Luther

Through the use of parables, Jesus was able to teach about the Kingdom of God and what you can
do to enter the Kingdom. The parable of the Rich Fool teaches us that if you only care about
yourself and show no concern for others and God, then there is no place for you in the Kingdom

must help others no matter who they are. The story explains this as it tells of a man who was
robbed and beaten. The man is ignored by several people who pass him and don t show any
concern for him. One man approached him and helped him and took him to get healed. This Good
Samaritan would then be allowed into the Kingdom for his actions. The parable that heavily talks
of the Kingdom is the parable of the Final Judgement which tells us that however you treat

Therefore, satisfaction is a consumer s post purchase evaluation and affective response to the
overall product or service experience. In other words, what consumer perceives after a product or
service consumption determines his/her satisfaction. Many researches have concluded that
satisfaction can determine the customer loyalty. Customer loyalty defined as a deeply held
commitment to re buy or re use a preferred product/service consistently in the future, thereby
causing repetitive same brand or same brand set purchasing, despite situational influences and
marketing efforts have the potential to cause switching behavior. The satisfaction/dissatisfaction
occurring through a matching or mismatching of expectations and perceived performance leads to
loyalty behaviour.

39. Key Themes Of The Poem Homecoming Bruce Dawe
The visual representation of the poem Homecoming, by Bruce Dawe, explores a few of the key
themes represented in the poem. These themes include: the depiction of a journey, death, futility
of war, sadness and dehumanisation. Which are communicated in the poster through the use of its
content, ideas, themes and techniques used. The use of colour sets the tone of the visual
representation. The dark blue sky in the background symbolises the sadness of war. The dark
blue colour illustrates the sadness of the soldiers families but also the sadness of the living
soldiers who had a brotherly connection to them. It also revels a sombre and melancholy tone.
Dawe explores this by structuring the poem as an elegy which is the lament or cry for the dead.
Thus, the background colour acts as a visual hyperbole, setting the tone of the image. The colour of
grass on the foreground depicts the key theme of death. This is expressed through the grey green
colour which illustrates a ghostly quality. Furthermore, depicting the grass to be like the battlefield
of the Vietnam war.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This gives the effect that the soldiers are on a long journey home. Bruce Dawe depicts this idea
by the use of enjambment, by using only one full stop at the end of the poem. The clouds add to
the content of the image revealing that home is very far away. By doing this the audience again
feels that the image is portraying a journey home. It also refers to the poem s title, Homecoming
which shows irony because the homecoming the reader expects is full of happiness and joy, but
in this case is bringing the dead bodies back to their families. The shadows of the planes are salient
images with a vector drawn between them to each other. To show that bringing back the dead
bodies is a constant

Some of frost s best known and loved poems are contained in these two books. For example,

their explorations, as mentioned by Peter Davison in the afterword to this volume, an excellent
biography of Frost is Into My Own: The English Years of Robert Frost1912 1915 by John
Evangelist Walsh. This work focuses on a period when Frost wrote some of his greatest poems
and when A Boy s Will and North of Boston were first published. It is useful in that it discusses
the context of Frost s writing such poems as Mending Wall and also gives a more sympathetic
portrait of Frost s character than the three volume official biography by Lawrance Thompson.

44. Analysis Of The Book Watchmen By Dave Gibbons
Watchmen written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons utilizes the literary tool of
symbols to connect ideas and themes. Time is a major theme throughout the comic and plays a
significant part in the structure and outcome of the story. This theme is successfully coupled to the
theme of destiny by the use of the clock and other symbols that are present throughout the comic.
Symbols such as clocks, the smiley pin, and the graffiti are utilized to efficiently connect the themes
of time, justice and the loss of innocence and morality throughout Watchmen. The combination of
all of these themes ultimately allude to Ozymandias decision to unleash chaos on Manhattan by
foreshadowing his betrayal and explaining how impossible it is to entrench the peace that he has
manufactured by unleashing this chaos. The clocks in Watchmen are used to foreshadow crucial
future events and connect the themes of morality and time. Other than the literal connection
between calling themselves Watchmen and recurring images of actual watches, doomsday clocks
and time in general plays a huge part in the arc of the comic s storyline. This is because of the
impending destruction that the world is to face at the hands of Ozymandias. Doctor Manhattan s
father was a watchmaker before learning that time is irrelevant and therefore useless. Jon himself
finds this out through his own experience with time and seeing back and forth through it. This is
particularly important because the whole reason he

Women had always played an important role with the foundation and formation of society. As
matter of fact, such evidence can be traced down to the earlier days when the first woman made
one powerful decision that would affect mankind forever. According to the Old Testament of the
Holy Bible, at least from the Christian religion, God created two living beings named Adam and Eve
. Adam was also viewed as the very first dominant male being on planet Earth. In sequence with the
creation of Adam, Eve was a woman, and was considered Adam s one and only counterpart. Back
when Adam and Eve were still alive, Eve was basically the only woman who represented the
population of the female gender, and assumed the role of a woman during that time. However,...

story about encountering a dilemma and finding a solution to free oneself from the problem. If de

51. Three Types Of Rumination Research Paper
Explain the different types of rumination (the cognitive level) that Denson describes. Do these
distinctions make sense to you? Denson describes three different types of rumination at the
cognitive level: content focus, mode of processing, and the vantage perspective. The content focus
of rumination is either provocation focused or self focused. Provocation focused rumination is
concerned with the incident that angered them (e.g. the person who insulted them and leads to
increased thoughts of anger and revenge. Self focused rumination occurs when the person
ruminates on themself (e.g. considering the insult to be a true reflection of themself). Self focused

Put the functional account of angry rumination into your own words, so it s clear that you
understand it. Also, what do you think about the idea of collective rumination? The functional
account of angry rumination suggests that angry rumination is an adaptive by product anger and
self awareness. Angry rumination may be helpful because ruminating postpones a person from
making rash anger fueled decisions when confrontation may be risky until a time that it is safe to
take action. It may also prevent forgiveness, which makes it easier to take action again wrong
doers. Physiological outcomes of angry rumination support that this type of rumination is
preparing the body for physical action, such as revenge. Self focused rumination and self critical
emotion may also cause a person to change their behavior for the better in order to fit with societal
norms and expectations. I believe collective rumination has a good basis. People tend to empathize
with those close to them, meaning it is likely that angry rumination in one individual can be
transferred to another through the retelling of anger inducing situations. It could explain how
individuals in large groups of people could feel a strong hatred for something or
