Gustave Courbet s Reclining Nude Essay
Gustave Courbet s Reclining Nude
In the Philadelphia Museum of Art are five paintings by Gustave Courbet; of all of these I found
Reclining Nude (1868, Oil on canvas, The Louis
Stern Collection, 63 81 20) the most interesting. It depicts a nude woman lying on the beach beneath a
billowing canopy. A dark, but tranquil sea is in the background. The sky is dark as if the final rays of
the sun were disappearing over the horizon. There are a few clouds in the sky, they are dark but not
threatening. The picture is very dark in general and there is no obvious light source. The edges of the
painting are so dark it is impossible to tell what the nude reclines against.
A very dim light falls on the woman, who lies on her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not covered enough, however, for one to believe she has any shame for appearing in so public a
place in such a position; this, too, would have been found scandalous in the 1860 s. Now, however,
compared to such displays of sexuality and nudity as found in magazines such as
Penthouse and Playgirl or X rated movies, the picture is perceived as a modest, proper display of
sexuality. Today there is nothing offensive about the woman s display of sexuality.
One other reason that the critics and public would have found this picture offensive is that to them this
is not a display of nudity, but a display of nakedness. The woman is perceived as naked rather than
nude, because she is not in a classical setting or an important person portrayed in a classical setting.
This is not a picture of a nude Venus rising from the sea foam or a nude Psyche with her adoring
Cupid. This woman is not even a rich patroness being portrayed in one of the classical settings.
This woman could be any fair haired woman;whe is a common woman, most likely the artist s
mistress or even a prostitute. Her nudity is for sensual display, not for classical purposes, therefore it
was perceived as nakedness and therefore obscene.
Though the woman in combination with her surroundings may have been offensive, there is nothing
offensive about her surroundings alone. The setting is a beach at nightfall. In the foreground one sees
a bright scarlet cloth lying on a

The Fallen Poem
Comparing For the Fallen and I Was Only Nineteen
In today s modern world, the use of poetry to communicate and express oneself has become quite rare.
One of the main reasons is due to the fact that with such an old style of writing, it is very often hard to
understand properly. poetry is indeed difficult to read and hard to understand, but given time, it is a
rewarding challenge. Poetry is not only written verse but is used in songs as well. Taken the time to
listen to the words of modern songs, you will realise that the lyrics of the song are actually a poem
linking modern day music to poetry.
To help Year Twelve students that are studying poetry appreciate it s value, this pamphlet s aim is to

The Impacts Of Imperialism
The treatises of imperialism, like other social subjects, have caused many controversies among those
who are deeply interested despite their diverse national backgrounds. Nonetheless, no matter how
heated debates the subject has raised, it is essential to fully deal with it based on historical sources.
This paper will decode imperialism from the following primary sources to help people better
understand the impacts of imperialism on the world s politics, economies and cultures: John A.
Hobson s Imperialism: A Study, Vladimir Illyich Lenin s Imperialism, The Highest Stage of
Capitalism, Jules Ferry s On French Colonial Expansion, Rudyard Kipling s The White Man s Burden,

He argued, like other imperialism advocates, that France needed foreign lands to consume his
excessive commodities because Germany and the United States had built up trade barriers. To the
French, not only were their own markets shrinking, but also other great states were trying to take over
the French markets. Therefore, it was necessary for France to take serious measures against such
threat. Furthermore, he believed that it was the duty of the higher races to civilize the lower races,
which led to the colonization of areas including Africa and Asia. Finally, Ferry also contended that as
many other great states expanded their territories, France needed to build their naval bases around the
world to compete at the world political stage; otherwise, France would face serious challenges from
other powers. Although Ferry was left wing politician, he justified his support for the French
imperialism based on the French national interests. To Ferry, national interests were first priority.
Rudyard Kipling wrote a poem, The White Man s Burden, to express that imperialism was the
obligation of the western powers to receive God s blessings to civilize the savages. Imperialism was
the way to save the uncivilized out of poverty and wretched lives. The success of imperialism indeed
could lead to the advancement of the human

Meaning Of I Hate You I Love You By Gnash
Most of humanity listens to music for the beats, but how many listen for the meanings of these songs?
There can be songs with a happy message, or there can be depressing message. Colors by Halsey and I
Hate You I Love You by Gnash have a remarkable message that make them similar and different.
In the same way, Colors and I Hate You I Love You have a similar meaning in heartbreaks. Everything
is blue. His pills, his hands, his jeans. And now I m covered in the colors. Pull apart at the seams. And
it s blue. Everything is grey. His hair, his smoke, his dreams. And now he s so devoid of color. He

You were red, and you liked me because I was blue. But you touched me, and suddenly I was a lilac
sky. Then you decided purple just wasn t for you This is a song lyric from Colors and it demonstrates
in the beginning of any relationship the significant other is on their best behavior, but after they get
comfortable their significant other their true colors start to show. Halsey told SiriusXM her song is
about being in a relationship with someone and kind of watching the vibrancy slowly start to leak out
of them, watch the colors start to fade or any sort of negative behavior that s kind of taking them away
from the bright and lively person that they used to be. You can kind of see them start to fade to gray,
and you wish you had them back the way that they used to be. When love and trust is gone, I guess
this is moving on This song lyric is from I Hate You I Love You and it shows when there is nothing
left it is time to move on, even if you don t want to. This song is split by two artists, a female and a
male, which the female hurt the male emotionally to the point where she was done. Even though these

Difference Between Education And Social Class
Social class in education can be distinguished in many ways such as power, authority, and wealth. In
which these contributed to children inequalities education, since children with low income have less
possibilities. Since ancient times people have been debating whether social class is a factor of a child
education. In the article, Education and inequality: historical and sociological approaches to schooling
and social stratification , says that, Numerous sociological studies have documented the extent of
achievement gaps, in the United States and internationally.4 In the simplest terms, students from
higher social classes have higher achievement levels than students from lower social classes ,(Susan F,
2).This quote explained how is the gap between lower class and social class. We can see that this is an
important issue to those young people who want to improve their style of live and be a better someone
or a better person in the future have less opportunities than those of the higher class and these people
from the lower class feel unfair that just because you are born with a gold spoon does not mean, you
are a better or intelligent person than any of them. Thus, i believe that social education it s more than
just a matter that has been happening today s date, but it has been since many, many, years ago in
which these experts Alan R. Sadovnik and Susan F. Semelb dwell from the beginning to today s date
how social class have affect education and how this prove

phoenix college and my expectations and goals were not met after taking a few classes I realized that
getting handed a recipe and cooking was not the only thing I needed to learn in the culinary business
to become a chef and a restaurant owner. In this hot food class, I wanted to learn how things start from
start to finish. Starting off with learning how a restaurant functions and works to be able to be
profitable restaurant owner and a chef. From purchasing to receiving orders and food quality these are
some things that as a student I want to learn and expect from this hot food class, also how to make the

Oedipus The King, Fate And Destiny
Sophocles is the author of the famous play, Oedipus the King . In case you did not know, Sophocles is
from Greece. In Greek mythology there are three goddesses who preside over the birth and life of
humans. Each person s destiny was thought of as a thread spun, measured, and cut by the three Fates,
Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. In the story Oedipus the King fate and destiny was the main theme. On
Google the definition of destiny is the events that will necessarily happen to a particular person or
thing in the future. Fate is defined as, the development of events beyond a person s control, regarded
as determined by a supernatural power. In this paper I will be analyzing the story to help you
understand the significance of destiny and fate to the story.
Do you think your life is already set out for you or its free will and u can decide what happens? The
power of acting without the constraint of necessity or fate is free will. Throughout the story Oedipus
Rex figured that he could determine his own fate. So obviously Oedipus Rex thought he could control
his life with free will. The miserable King Oedipus of Thebes and his woeful story is a rather
significant thought experiment for those of us struggling with this fate or free will problem.
With Sophocles being from Greece he believes in Greek mythology. The Moirai or Fates were three
sister deities, incarnations of destiny and life. Their names were Clotho, the one who spins the thread
of life; Lachesis, she who draws

Racism
I can positively say, without a doubt in mind, that racism should be put in room 101 and I m sure no
one could disagree with me. We, as a society, can help this and you can join me fight this because
Racism can be ruthless, cruel and dangerous. Is there anything more hurtful than someone kicking you
out of a restaurant because of your skin colour? How wrong is this? Racism can lead to depression
therefore; sensitive people can even commit suicide, would you want this? Furthermore, recently I

Professional Learning Communities
Introduction
Schools are constantly looking for ways in which to improve. Research has revealed several attributes
of a school that proves to lead towards student learning and higher achievement including strong
leadership, clear and shared mission, vision, values, and goals, collective inquiry, action oriented,
collaborative teams that work interdependently, a focus on student learning and results oriented. These
ideas are represented within a Professional Learning Community (PLC). To become a PLC, a staff
must make changes in their actions and work together focusing on student learning. PLC s have
evolved out of failed school reform measures. It attempts to make permanent changes to a school s
culture to affect change in student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Safe environments are built and there s a respect for diversity. Another highly important factor in
effective schools is a highly effective leader. Leadership is a key characteristic in a PLC also. The
principal acts as an instructional leader building relationships with the staff and developing high
moral. These characteristics are all evident in a PLC. When schools truly begin to align their practices
with a commitment to learning for all, the educators within them begin to function as a Professional
Learning Community (DuFour, DuFour Eaker, 2008, p. 21). The PLC is more of an re culturing
instead of a school reform. It is an ongoing process through which a staff works collaboratively to
share learning goals. In order to reach the goals set forth in laws such as NCLB, a school must change
it s culture to maintain an ongoing collaborative process to enhance everyone s effectiveness to
improve student behavior ( Nygard, 2010).
Four Essential Questions
The first role in building a successful learning community is to formulate a solid base of shared
mission, vision, values, and goals. These four are the building blocks of a solid foundation for
decision making for school improvement. Mission or purpose is the first block and focuses on the
question Why do we exist? The second block is vision or the direction the school is headed. It asks the
question What kind of school or district do we hope to become? A values block asks How

Symbolic Interactionism Theory Of Smoking
Symbolic Interactionism Theory sees interactions and meanings as central to society, and assumes that
meanings are not inherent, but are created through interactions (Chp. 1 Theory). An example of
Symbolic Interactionism Theory is smoking (informal). Smoking is harmful to your health. A person
may associate a meaning for smoking. They might use smoking for means as a way to meet a new
friend. When two smokers meet, and one offers the other a cigarette, that is a way to become
acquainted with someone. The gesture here is the offer of a cigarette from one person to another. This
gesture is positively sanctioned because the person makes a new friend. The negative sanction is the

This is associated with larger ideology in our society because in our society, it is considered rude and
creepy to stare at people. I believe that this is a norm because people tend to be more introverted or
personal nowadays, and they do not want others to be nosy. This is most likely a norm in most cultures
because it is considered rude. This norm is often sanctioned negatively when broken because it is rude
to stare at others. I think that race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and age play a factor as to how
people around them respond. Race, gender, sexual orientation, religion and age also affect the
response of the person as well. If a white person is being targeted by this experiment, then more
people would notice and more people would probably react and ask me what I was doing. If an
African American was being targeted by this experiment, then people would not act as concerned.

The Literary Theory Known as Post-Colonialism
The literary theory known as Post Colonialism is easily defined in content but not in its beginning or
end. Ashcroft, Griffins, and Tiffin state that the term covers all the culture affected by the imperial
process from the moment of colonization to the present day (2). They focus on the territories
colonized by Britain in Empire Writes Back but state that the analysis can apply to the former empires
of France, Spain, and Portugal. This view falls in line with the issue brought up by Childs and
Williams about after whose empire or whose colonization does it begin? The United States in the
1700s, the Latin American states in the 1800s, or the mid 1900s fall of the British and French empires
(1)? What is agreed upon is that the focus is on writing about the effects or culture in post colonial
societies or examining colonial literature with an eye for the moral superiority, racial discrimination,
or Eurocentric viewpoint. Writers such as Rushdie, Said, and Achebe all belong to this movement with
their discussions of the life and culture of the Indian Subcontinent, Eastern culture, and Nigeria
respectively. Said, one of the eminent post colonial critics, writes in Orientalism that the concept of
the Orient and Oriental culture are Western colonial constructs. Orient describes everything cultural or
social in Asia lumping the Arab culture of the Middle East, the Buddhist culture of Southeast Asia, and
the ancient cultures of China and Japan as parts of a single entity. Said

Pharma Company has also entered into irrevocable contracts that will affect the restructuring plan over
the next 18 months. In addition, the cost to dismantle the existing manufacturing operation is
estimated at $1 million but has yet to be finalized. Though Pharma Company is under no legal
obligation to perform the dismantling (and have not done so during past restructuring plans) they have
stated their plans to dismantle the Bellvue facility in a press release.
Issues
Several issues arise for Pharma Company as a result of their planned relocation. The main issue is
whether or not to record a restructuring provision for the relocation plan under both IFRSs and U.S.
GAAP. The subsequent issues are which of the incurred costs should be included in the possible
restructuring provision and when they should be accrued under both IFRSs and U.S. GAAP. These
include deciding on whether to recognize (1) the lease termination liability, (2) the one time
termination benefit liability, (3) the $500,000 cost of relocation, $1.5 million staff training, and any
irrevocable contract costs, as well as (4) any dismantling costs for the year ended December 31, 2011.
Brief Overview of Conclusions
After review of the primary issue it has been discovered that (in accordance with both U.S. GAAP and
IFRSs guidelines) Pharma Company s plan to relocate its manufacturing operation meets the criteria

Rfid in Wine Industry in France
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
France is the biggest wine producer in the world (7 8 billion bottles sold in 2010). 17% of French
drink wine regularly, which is a total of 9.35 million people. We identified that buying wine requires
knowledge of the different kinds of wine and that many consumers find it difficult to get the
information when they want it.
Our team has identified this pain point as an opportunity to launch our product using smart phones and
RFID technology on the wine bottles. The solution is an application on a smart phone which allows
the end user to scan the RFID tag on the wine bottle in order to get real time information on the wine
bottle, instant access to any promotion available and consumer ratings of the wine.

With our segments of targeted application end users, there are around 17% of 55 million people are
frequently wine drinkers in France, we estimate that 10% of them will be the innovators who start to

efficient in functioning, fast access to specified and detailed wine information and interactive reviews
sharing within 2 minutes. The easy use will enhance the market penetration speed. With higher
frequency of application usage among our end users, our customers (wine retailers and wine
producers) will increase. We expect to start with 5 15 wine retailers and producers in first year and add
to 20 50 in second year, 50 100 in third year.
Market Penetration potentials
The French wine market is at its stable stage now, not fast growing anymore, but still with large
volume of consumption. We will start our marketing by key activities and relationships we can build
with our customers, with all the sales effort and partnership with RFID suppliers, we assume that our
market share will grow very fast from niche to 30% in the third year.
PEST assessment
Political normally, political factors will not affect people s mood and habit of drinking wine, if
anything bad or good, it perhaps can stimulate the consumption, but we need to

The Effects Of The Stock Market Crash Of 1929
It is inevitable that a country will have a continuously fluctuating economy; however, this can
potentially be dangerous when economic growth drops precipitously as it did in 1929. Even today,
there is controversy regarding the causal events leading up to the stock market crash of 1929. The
question most debated is which factor was the greatest contributor to causing the crash? Many think
the answer is simple, for example, unemployment. On the contrary, the answer is quite complex
because there were many interconnected causes. When answering this question, it is first crucial to
analyze the causes of the crash and the causes of the depression that followed the crash. Many people

In addition, effective advertising led to more consumer purchases. Consumers were able to purchase
more luxurious items because wages of the urban middle class workers increased. People could afford
mass produced goods like radios, washing machines and cars. This materialistic time period slowly
took a turn for the worst. Various factors began revealing the hidden structural problems of the 1920s.
For one, overproduction became a major problem, as efficiently supplied goods outstripped their
demand. Other problems included income inequality, with only 1% of the population wealthy enough
to invest in stocks. This income gap widened over time; by 1929 the stock market was many times its
value in 1921. Furthermore, easy credit led to growing debt of consumers and companies. Specifically,
people bought stocks on margin while companies took on loans to expand their production. Therefore,
many banks in the U.S grew from small to medium sized, as their loan portfolios increased. The first
sign of trouble in the 1920s was when several rural banks failed, due to farmers failure on agricultural
loans, combined with weak reserve requirements. This developed into a major problem because there
was no lender of last resort addressing the needs of the failing banks. In addition, investors drove up
stock prices even with low earnings per share, in part based on companies unrealistic

One can also consider why there are now so many overnight mail carriers such as United Parcel
Service and Airborne Express. The second example pertains to the exit from an industry, specifically,
the airline industry in the United States. Pan Am, a pioneer in public air transportation, is no longer in
operation, while some airlines such as TWA (Trans World Airlines) are on the verge of exiting the
airlines industry. Why, then, have many airlines that operate on international routes fallen on hard
times, while small regional airlines seem to be doing just fine? Managerial economics provides
answers to these questions.
In order to answer pertinent questions, managerial economics applies economic theories, tools, and
techniques to administrative and business decision making. The first step in the decision making
process is to collect relevant economic data carefully and to organize the economic information
contained in data collected in such a way as to establish a clear basis for managerial decisions. The
goals of the particular business organization must then be clearly spelled out. Based on these stated
goals, suitable managerial objectives are formulated. The issue of central concern in the decision
making process is that the desired objectives be reached in the best possible manner. The term best in
the decision making context primarily refers to achieving the goals in the most efficient

Analysis Of The Movie Miracle
Miracle review
During the Lake Placid Olympics in 1980. USA, a team that consisted of college kids defeated the
heavily favorite Soviet Union in hockey. Eventually, team USA won the gold medal against Finland.
USA s first gold medal since 1960 in hockey. The 1980 USA hockey gold medal victory is arguably
the greatest moment in U.S. sports history. The 2003 film Miracle is about the events that led USA to
victory. Also, the film exemplifies that an underdog can truly win. In my opinion, the film Miracle is
the best well made and most influential sports movie. I give it 10 out 10 stars, based on the realistic
action scenes, inspirational quotes and underdog story.
The first piece of criteria I used was Inspirational quotes. Quotes that have a deeper meaning in them.
In the movie, legendary head coach Herb brooks of team USA said, Great moments are born from
great opportunities . I find this quote inspirational because it s a huge opportunity to represent your
country and do something that hasn t been in 20 years, which was winning the gold medal. Russia was
going through the Cold war. In addition, another memorable quote is, Mike Eurzione Winthrop,
Massachusetts! . Who do you play for? . I play for the United states of America! . That s all gentlemen
. This quote happened right after when the U.SA tied the subpar Norwegian team 3 3. During the
game, some of the players were distracting themselves away from the

Central High School has been participating in game day parking for at least 20 years and has used the
funds to improve multiple programs at the school.
Four years ago we were trying to find ways to improve retention rates so we decided to use the funds
from game day parking to allow our students to dual enroll at Shelton State Community College and
Alabama State University. This year we have added Stillman College to the list of options for our
students, said Principal Clarence Sutton.
Last year 11 percent of graduating seniors left with 12 or more credit hours earned from one of the
colleges. This year they have 20 percent of the 11th and 12th graders enrolled in dual enrollment.

Mexican War Dbq Analysis
If you looked at a map of North America in the 1820 s the countries would look a lot different. Mexico
was as large as the United States, stretching from Guatemala in the south to Oregon in the north. The
US was much smaller, but not for long. The Mexican War, or the U.S. Invasion (according to the
Mexicans) started in 1846 and ended in 1848. In that short time the US gained a large chunk of
territory including Texas and California and Mexico lost more than half of their land. Many Americans
and Mexicans died fighting in the war but was this war justified ? I think that the Mexican war was
not justified but provoked by the United States. The reasons why I think this is that Americans living
in Texas violated the rules that Mexico had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Polk became President as the trouble with Mexico was happening. In 1846 under Polk s orders the
troops of General Zachary Taylor were sent to the Rio Grande. The US considered the Rio Grande to
be the new border between Mexico and the US but the Mexicans believed the border was farther north
at the Nueces River. The Mexican government automatically thought the movement of the U.S. army
was an attack on Mexico. (Doc C). The Mexicans knew they had to defend the border of the Rio
Grande so that s what they did. They set up troops along the Rio Grande to protect its border (Doc C).
In document C it states The American government acted like a bandit who came upon a traveler . The
Mexicans described us as thieves and a threat to the peace (Doc C). Polk sent a known spy, William

A Positive Relation Between Organizations, Human...
Additionally, trust in organizations is a positive relation with behavior at the workplace and is
connected with unions, human resources, and government interventions. Most government
marketplace interventions have used the alternative treatment principle of triage to split those in pain
into three groups : those who cannot be helped with the assets offered ,those who will recuperate (or at
least continue ) without any help, and those who will improve only with instant
assistance(Sastre,2010, chap.16).In some anxiety, managers have progressively advanced in training,
structural behavior, and job improvement to help workers. In order that a company is productive a
union, human resources, and government interventions must allow workers to change their habits,
skills, values, beliefs, and attitudes in a workforce. This process will more likely take some hard work
and years to process. They need to accept dissatisfactions and unpredicted consequences of solutions to
difficult problems, and the continuing power to work determinedly at improving the quality of help
the workers receive.
The federal government has intervened in the past and is still adjusting market outcomes. They are
keeping up with the needs of workers. The Home Ower Loan Corporation, Continental Illinois in
1994, The Savings and Loan Crisis of the 1980s, and Brady bonds in 1989 are some government
interventions which modify market outcomes.
One of the lessons from these four instances of government intervention is

Why Is Mardi Gras Important
Mardi Gras
Traditions have been around forever, and are all around us today. Holidays such as Mardi Gras, are

some of the greatest celebrations of this holiday. Here they bake, dance, parade and and throw beads
all through this four day holiday. Symbols such as colors, food, and dance are some mysteries of

Rates of Reaction of the Halogenoalkanes Essay
Rates of reaction of the halogenoalkanes
scientific knowledge and understanding:
Halogenoalkanes are classified as either primary, secondary or tertiary. In primary halogenoalkanes
the halogen atom is covalently bonded to a carbon atom which is bonded to one other carbon, to two
other carbons in secondary and three others in tertiary.
Apparatus for a reflux
Increasing the size of the halogen atom in the halogenoalkane decreases the bond strength, increasing
the reactivity of the molecule, as the bond is easier to break.

The ethanol in the aqueous solution will dissolve the halogenoalkanes so they are able to mix with
water.
Bonds in the water molecules will then break giving OH and H ions.
The OH ions will behave as a nucleophile because they have a lone pair of electrons, which when
accepted by the carbon, will form a stronger bond than the halogen does.
In each reaction the halogen atom will be eliminated, forming a negative halogen ion, which will then
bond with a positive silver ion to form a visible precipitate.
The rate, at which the silver halide precipitates form, is the same rate at which the halogen atoms are
being eliminated by nucleophilic substitution. C2H5Cl + :OH C2H5OH + Cl

Ag+(aq) + Br (aq) AgBr(s)

Essay On Liaquat To America
Admiral Nimitz was scheduled to remain in New York until the paperwork for the plebiscite by the
UN could be finalized, but the UN had encountered reoccurring problems with the Indian government.
Nehru s administration would not allow the plebiscite to be administered until all Pakistani military
forces left their territory in Kashmir, and the protection of Kashmir s people was guaranteed.
Addressing the Indian Congress, Nehru said, So long as the raiders, who have driven out Kashmiris
from their homes, remain in parts of Kashmir, the return of the refugees to those areas cannot be
expected. Till they return and settle down in their homes, how can you expect them to express their

President Truman through Assistant Secretary of State George McGhee invited Liaquat to America,
and the ongoing Pakistani Soviet communication ceased. The Pakistani visit to Washington D.C. was
held in much higher regard than Nehru s visit by many newspapers such as the New York Times.
Liaquat explain to President Truman that Pakistan desired American investment, and it would fully
cooperate in the UN plebiscite. Though Liaquat did not publically make requests for military support
during his official visit, there is great evidence that shows he did in private. On May 20, 1950, there
was a large explosion at a harbor in South Amboy, New Jersey. The explosion involved antitank and
antipersonnel mines that the Pakistani Army had purchased and were on route to Karachi, Pakistan.
The growing relationship between the United States and Pakistan was displayed when the Truman
Administration requested that Pakistan join the UN collation that was fighting in the Korean War, but
Liaquat decided that his country could not afford to dedicate their military resources to another
conflict while they were constantly threated by the Kashmir crisis. The Pakistani visit to America may
have solidified Pakistani America relations, but it led to the destruction to Indian American relations
as the Indians suspected the United States was supplying Pakistan with military equipment that could

categories. The two countries of interest are Kenya and the United States. The countries rank
differently on the various indicators. The paper will try to answer why this is so. Kenya is presently
ranked at position 147 with a human development index of 0.535. On the other hand, the United States
ranks 5th with an average of 0.914. Kenya has its life expectancy at birth at 61.72 while that of the

In a nutshell, the population in the United States is more educated than their Kenyan counterparts.
There are numerous reasons that could explain the above situation. The education system of the
United States is more developed as there are good policies that govern the education sector. The
access to education is high because of the numerous numbers of schools that are in place. The teaching
personnel is sufficient thus the low teacher to pupil ratio. The same can barely be said about Kenya.
This country has a limited number of schools compared to its population. Individuals find it harder to
access education primarily due to their scarcity. The transition rates are also quite low and the teaching

Perception of use of power, influence, and authority
Authority is generally seen as a special form of power, which refers to the ability to influence
outcomes through force, coercion or persuasion, and through legitimate or non legitimate means.
Power is typically understood as a process or force that helps to integrate society or maintain social
order, especially when there are disagreements or social cleavages that might make it difficult for

  • 2. Gustave Courbet s Reclining Nude Essay Gustave Courbet s Reclining Nude In the Philadelphia Museum of Art are five paintings by Gustave Courbet; of all of these I found Reclining Nude (1868, Oil on canvas, The Louis Stern Collection, 63 81 20) the most interesting. It depicts a nude woman lying on the beach beneath a billowing canopy. A dark, but tranquil sea is in the background. The sky is dark as if the final rays of the sun were disappearing over the horizon. There are a few clouds in the sky, they are dark but not threatening. The picture is very dark in general and there is no obvious light source. The edges of the painting are so dark it is impossible to tell what the nude reclines against. A very dim light falls on the woman, who lies on her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not covered enough, however, for one to believe she has any shame for appearing in so public a place in such a position; this, too, would have been found scandalous in the 1860 s. Now, however, compared to such displays of sexuality and nudity as found in magazines such as Penthouse and Playgirl or X rated movies, the picture is perceived as a modest, proper display of sexuality. Today there is nothing offensive about the woman s display of sexuality. One other reason that the critics and public would have found this picture offensive is that to them this is not a display of nudity, but a display of nakedness. The woman is perceived as naked rather than nude, because she is not in a classical setting or an important person portrayed in a classical setting. This is not a picture of a nude Venus rising from the sea foam or a nude Psyche with her adoring Cupid. This woman is not even a rich patroness being portrayed in one of the classical settings. This woman could be any fair haired woman;whe is a common woman, most likely the artist s mistress or even a prostitute. Her nudity is for sensual display, not for classical purposes, therefore it was perceived as nakedness and therefore obscene. Though the woman in combination with her surroundings may have been offensive, there is nothing offensive about her surroundings alone. The setting is a beach at nightfall. In the foreground one sees a bright scarlet cloth lying on a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Fallen Poem Comparing For the Fallen and I Was Only Nineteen In today s modern world, the use of poetry to communicate and express oneself has become quite rare. One of the main reasons is due to the fact that with such an old style of writing, it is very often hard to understand properly. poetry is indeed difficult to read and hard to understand, but given time, it is a rewarding challenge. Poetry is not only written verse but is used in songs as well. Taken the time to listen to the words of modern songs, you will realise that the lyrics of the song are actually a poem linking modern day music to poetry. To help Year Twelve students that are studying poetry appreciate it s value, this pamphlet s aim is to discuss a classic poem and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Impacts Of Imperialism The treatises of imperialism, like other social subjects, have caused many controversies among those who are deeply interested despite their diverse national backgrounds. Nonetheless, no matter how heated debates the subject has raised, it is essential to fully deal with it based on historical sources. This paper will decode imperialism from the following primary sources to help people better understand the impacts of imperialism on the world s politics, economies and cultures: John A. Hobson s Imperialism: A Study, Vladimir Illyich Lenin s Imperialism, The Highest Stage of Capitalism, Jules Ferry s On French Colonial Expansion, Rudyard Kipling s The White Man s Burden, American Anti Imperialism League s Platform of the American Anti¬ Imperialist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He argued, like other imperialism advocates, that France needed foreign lands to consume his excessive commodities because Germany and the United States had built up trade barriers. To the French, not only were their own markets shrinking, but also other great states were trying to take over the French markets. Therefore, it was necessary for France to take serious measures against such threat. Furthermore, he believed that it was the duty of the higher races to civilize the lower races, which led to the colonization of areas including Africa and Asia. Finally, Ferry also contended that as many other great states expanded their territories, France needed to build their naval bases around the world to compete at the world political stage; otherwise, France would face serious challenges from other powers. Although Ferry was left wing politician, he justified his support for the French imperialism based on the French national interests. To Ferry, national interests were first priority. Rudyard Kipling wrote a poem, The White Man s Burden, to express that imperialism was the obligation of the western powers to receive God s blessings to civilize the savages. Imperialism was the way to save the uncivilized out of poverty and wretched lives. The success of imperialism indeed could lead to the advancement of the human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There can be songs with a happy message, or there can be depressing message. Colors by Halsey and I Hate You I Love You by Gnash have a remarkable message that make them similar and different. In the same way, Colors and I Hate You I Love You have a similar meaning in heartbreaks. Everything is blue. His pills, his hands, his jeans. And now I m covered in the colors. Pull apart at the seams. And it s blue. Everything is grey. His hair, his smoke, his dreams. And now he s so devoid of color. He doesn t know what it means. You were red, and you liked me because I was blue. But you touched me, and suddenly I was a lilac sky. Then you decided purple just wasn t for you This is a song lyric from Colors and it demonstrates in the beginning of any relationship the significant other is on their best behavior, but after they get comfortable their significant other their true colors start to show. Halsey told SiriusXM her song is about being in a relationship with someone and kind of watching the vibrancy slowly start to leak out of them, watch the colors start to fade or any sort of negative behavior that s kind of taking them away from the bright and lively person that they used to be. You can kind of see them start to fade to gray, and you wish you had them back the way that they used to be. When love and trust is gone, I guess this is moving on This song lyric is from I Hate You I Love You and it shows when there is nothing left it is time to move on, even if you don t want to. • 7. Difference Between Education And Social Class Social class in education can be distinguished in many ways such as power, authority, and wealth. In which these contributed to children inequalities education, since children with low income have less possibilities. Since ancient times people have been debating whether social class is a factor of a child education. In the article, Education and inequality: historical and sociological approaches to schooling and social stratification , says that, Numerous sociological studies have documented the extent of achievement gaps, in the United States and internationally.4 In the simplest terms, students from higher social classes have higher achievement levels than students from lower social classes ,(Susan F, 2).This quote explained how is the gap between lower class and social class. We can see that this is an important issue to those young people who want to improve their style of live and be a better someone or a better person in the future have less opportunities than those of the higher class and these people from the lower class feel unfair that just because you are born with a gold spoon does not mean, you are a better or intelligent person than any of them. Thus, i believe that social education it s more than just a matter that has been happening today s date, but it has been since many, many, years ago in which these experts Alan R. Sadovnik and Susan F. Semelb dwell from the beginning to today s date how social class have affect education and how this prove ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Oedipus The King, Fate And Destiny Sophocles is the author of the famous play, Oedipus the King . In case you did not know, Sophocles is from Greece. In Greek mythology there are three goddesses who preside over the birth and life of humans. Each person s destiny was thought of as a thread spun, measured, and cut by the three Fates, Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. In the story Oedipus the King fate and destiny was the main theme. On Google the definition of destiny is the events that will necessarily happen to a particular person or thing in the future. Fate is defined as, the development of events beyond a person s control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power. In this paper I will be analyzing the story to help you understand the significance of destiny and fate to the story. Do you think your life is already set out for you or its free will and u can decide what happens? The power of acting without the constraint of necessity or fate is free will. Throughout the story Oedipus Rex figured that he could determine his own fate. So obviously Oedipus Rex thought he could control his life with free will. The miserable King Oedipus of Thebes and his woeful story is a rather significant thought experiment for those of us struggling with this fate or free will problem. With Sophocles being from Greece he believes in Greek mythology. The Moirai or Fates were three sister deities, incarnations of destiny and life. Their names were Clotho, the one who spins the thread of life; Lachesis, she who draws ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Is there anything more hurtful than someone kicking you out of a restaurant because of your skin colour? How wrong is this? Racism can lead to depression therefore; sensitive people can even commit suicide, would you want this? Furthermore, recently I took a survey in which 9 out of 10 people say racism shouldn t be allowed and the other 10%, I would say they don t have hearts. The principal acts as an instructional leader building relationships with the staff and developing high moral. These characteristics are all evident in a PLC. When schools truly begin to align their practices with a commitment to learning for all, the educators within them begin to function as a Professional Learning Community (DuFour, DuFour Eaker, 2008, p. 21). The PLC is more of an re culturing instead of a school reform. It is an ongoing process through which a staff works collaboratively to share learning goals. In order to reach the goals set forth in laws such as NCLB, a school must change it s culture to maintain an ongoing collaborative process to enhance everyone s effectiveness to improve student behavior ( Nygard, 2010). They focus on the territories colonized by Britain in Empire Writes Back but state that the analysis can apply to the former empires of France, Spain, and Portugal. This view falls in line with the issue brought up by Childs and Williams about after whose empire or whose colonization does it begin? The United States in the 1700s, the Latin American states in the 1800s, or the mid 1900s fall of the British and French empires (1)? What is agreed upon is that the focus is on writing about the effects or culture in post colonial societies or examining colonial literature with an eye for the moral superiority, racial discrimination, or Eurocentric viewpoint. Writers such as Rushdie, Said, and Achebe all belong to this movement with their discussions of the life and culture of the Indian Subcontinent, Eastern culture, and Nigeria respectively. Said, one of the eminent post colonial critics, writes in Orientalism that the concept of the Orient and Oriental culture are Western colonial constructs. For one, overproduction became a major problem, as efficiently supplied goods outstripped their demand. Other problems included income inequality, with only 1% of the population wealthy enough to invest in stocks.
