Merida, A Modern Personification Of The Great Mother...
Mythological stories are still being used in modern era by society to understand the world and
life. Its use is noticeable on media directed towards adolescent or the younger audience. Disney is
known for basing their movies on mythological stories, but there has been a shift to how they use
these stories. Disney Princesses such as Snow white, Aurora, Belle, were a reflection to goddesses
like Aphrodite, a goddessof love, beauty and desire. Modern Princesses such as Merida, Elsa,
Moana, tie to Artemis, goddess of wilderness, virginity, and protector. Most modern princesses,
specially Merida, depict the mythological archetype, the Great Mother. David A. Leeming, author of
The World of Myth, describes the Great Mother as earth, body of nourishment, and symbol of death
and rebirth. The Great Mother represents nature and motherhood, and is an agent of rebirth or
transformation. In the movie Brave, Princess Merida is on the quest to mend her mistake of
changing her mother into a bear because she wanted to change her fate. Merida is a modern
personification of the Great Mother archetype by having a strong connection with nature, behaving
as the mother of her kingdom, and going through and influencing spiritual transformation.
Leeming states that The Great Mother is also described as Mother earth. She is connected to
fertility and has a deep connection with the environment. The movie Brave depicts Merida s
connection with nature throughout the whole story. The song playing in the

Acquired Sensory Loss
This is when somebody is born without any sensory loss, but then has an accident or illness which
causes a sensory loss.
Illness
Diabetes: The most serious complication of diabetes for the eye is the development of diabetic
retinopathy. Diabetes affects the tiny blood vessels of the eye and if they become blocked or leak
then the retina and possibly your vision will be affected.
Measles: Measles blindness is the single leading cause of blindness among children in low income
countries, accounting for an estimated 15,000 to 60,000 cases of blindness per year. There is a
close synergism between measles and vitamin A deficiency that can result in xerophthalmia, with
corneal ulceration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may be due to an accident, illness, a genetic condition, e.g. a syndrome such as Usher,
Alstrom, and Stickler, etc. or as a result of aging in later life. In children and young people if these
problems occur later in life, this is called acquired Deafblindness.

Congenital
When someone is born with combined sight and hearing difficulties this is called congenital
Deafblindness. Examples of this include conditions such as Rubella or CHARGE. Congenital can
also refer to people who have lost vision/ hearing before the acquisition of language, i.e. in their
very early years.
From skillsforcare.org.uk
Deaf: deaf with a small d simply refers to the medical condition of hearing loss. However, most
people who use BSL/ ISL refer to themselves as Deaf. The use of upper case D indicates a
language preference and is also a political and cultural term of belonging to the Deaf community.
It is used in the same way that people who belong to a national, cultural or religious group would
describe themselves, for example, as French or Muslim. It is for this reason that many Deaf people
do not define themselves as disabled, rather they describe themselves as belonging to a cultural or
linguistic minority
Deafened: A person who was born hearing and subsequently became severely or profoundly deaf
Hard of hearing: A general term used to describe people with a

Should Heart Of Darkness Be Taught In Schools
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a highly debated book over whether or not it should be
read in schools. Many people see Heart of Darkness as a racist book that is blatantly offensive to
African Americans, but others view Heart of Darkness as an important book that explores many
complex ideas, such as the internal conflict between a man s sanity and insanity, and Conrad s
opposition to Imperialism, which was very prevalent during the time the book was written. While
the opponents of Heart of Darknesssay that this book should not be read in schools, I believe the
book can be utilized in an academic environment. The opposers to this book do make a reasonable
and correct point that this book uses very strong language and seems to be racist, Conrad did not
intend to convey racist perspectives, rather, taking on that role to further his point towards
Imperialism. Although it uses strong language in the book, that was used to show how Europeans
viewed Africans during the time period. This should be read in an academic environment because
it is a very well written text and can be used to show the effect of Imperialism during the 19th and
20th century.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conrad wasn t conveying how he felt, but showing how Europeans during the time period felt.
Marlow is an exaggerated version of the Europeans during the time period. He does this to show
the flaws in how proponents of Imperialism felt. The book s original intention was to show the
negative effects of Imperialism and how they affected people. The exaggerated racism of Marlow
is to show how close minded Imperialists are and how, they themselves are racist. In this
perspective, Conrad is not racist, but fighting for the rights of the

Book Theif Love Quotes
The Power of Love The human heart feels things the eyes cannot see, and knows what the mind
cannot understand. This quote, stated by Robert Vallet, resonates with all human beings
irrespective of their race, religion, or culture. The Book Thief, written by Marcus Zusak and
narrated by death, tells an eye opening story from the perspective of a small group of Germans
who silently, secretly and courageously opposed Nazism during the time of the Holocaust. While
death is featured prominently throughout the story, ultimately, love shines through. This is seen
not only in The Book Thief, but in everyday life. Hence, Zusak s purpose in writing The Book
Thief is to expose his readers to the exceptional, yet beautiful power of love: how love can save a
person, change a person, and ultimately be everlasting. The bond of love between individuals has
the power to save lives. It supersedes the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They heaved blankets down and topped up the kerosene lamp. Rosa admitted that there could
not be much food, to which Max fervently asked her to bring only scraps, and only when they
were not wanted by anyone else. Na, na, Rosa assured him. You will be fed, as best I can ... Soon

and Hans had unknowingly changed Liesel s perspective by showing her that taking care of
Max was the right thing to do. Although in the beginning Liesel was a bit wary of Max, she
learned to love after observing her foster parents actions. Another example of someone who
changed perspectives through the power of love is Jesus Christ, particularly changing the
perspective of one man: the power hungry apostle Jude, who wanted to make Jesus a ruling King
and emperor over the people. 22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, But, Lord, why do you intend

Sister Act Analysis
The Sister Act, a musical theatre show, written by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, was a
hit musical during the late two thousand, making all the way to Broadway. It has its roots in the
era of disco, with all types of different distinctions from modern types of music, and with its plot, it
also delves into the realm of hymns and old gospel music, which all culminates into a musical
theatreextravaganza.
It being a musical, makes it hard to distinguish one genre in particular, but the overlying theme
seems to be based on late 70 s disco (as that is the setting for the musical in the first place). The
line up of instruments were: two keyboardists, a trumpet, a clarinet, a saxophone, a flute, an
electric bass, drums, and a lot of vocalists. All the woodwinds and brass instruments were covered
by one guy, and a lot more additional instrumentation was covered by the keyboardist.
Their instrumentation in the play seemed mediocre initially, but after listening to how they were
able to cooperate with one another, to create harmonies sounding so consonant was incredibly
interesting, especially with vocalists thrown in. The voices mixing with the instruments and vice
versa made it sound almost angelical . The harmonies created were also very southern gospel
sounding in certain points in the musical.
The vocalists varied from scene to scene but in total, there seemed to be about 22 vocalists in all.
Seeing the choir being fairly massive, in relation to the size

Failure Of Failure After Failure
As my first semester of college is coming to an end, I would like to reflect on my experience here
within the Honors 120 and 121 class on Failure and the Question Wheel. I chose this class on
failure because I have always held myself to such high standards that I hoped to be able to find a
way to accept failure in some instances. Within our first week in class, we made claims about
failure. My favorite claim was that every failure is in some way a success. Although this claim was
not very debatable and incredibly generic, I was able to really let my mind explore what it was
trying to say. Throughout the semester I experienced failure after failure, but that allowed me to
see that success can still be achieved within failures. One major failure I experienced throughout
the entire semester was my failure to speak up in class. In the beginning of the school year I
failed to speak up mainly because I was shy and being around all new people whom I did not know
made me feel very anxious. I thought that my anxietyabout this class would lessen over time as I
got to know my fellow classmates. However, as time went on I realized that while a majority of
my classmates share these anxious feelings with me, the other students that had been speaking up
are very strong willed and can be judgmental at times. I then realized that I was scared to speak
up in class because I feared that my ideas were not deep enough or that the normal speakers would
think I was stupid. I feared

Enkidu As A Hero In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu helps act as a catalyst for the transformation of Gilgamesh s
character from an undefeatable god like brute into a complex thinker. In the eyes of Gilgamesh, he
is unstoppable and is willing to challenge death itself so long as he is remembered as a hero by his
subjects. With Enkidus help, Gilgamesh learns to become a better person as a ruler, not as a better
warrior. Although not blood related, Enkidu was like a brother to Gilgamesh and the duo shared an
inseparable bond. Throughout the epic, Enkidu teaches Gilgamesh that he is not unstoppable, being
stubborn will not stop him from dying, and that there are no easy solutions to life.
At the beginning of the epic, before Enkidu is introduced, Gilgamesh is described by the narrator
as godly and fit for Uruk s throne by default. These descriptions are vital in order to interpret how
the villagers feel and also to perceive just how mighty Enkidu has to be in order to rival
Gilgamesh. Supreme over other kings, lordly in appearance, /he is the hero, born of Uruk, the
goring wild bull. /He walks out in front, the leader, / (1. 27 29). The narrator speaks extremely
fondly to emphasize just how mighty the main character is and that no other men in any of the
nearby regions seem to come close when the level of their manliness is compared to that of
Gilgamesh. The use of the words Supreme and Lordly indicate that in Gilgamesh s point of view,
he is doing an excellent job of reigning over his

Frederick Douglass And The Anti-Slavery Movement
Frederick Douglass was a former slave who worked and powered to be free coming across many
hurdles. Despite his rough beginnings, Douglass became a well written author who later wrote
three autobiographies and a multitude of speeches that later aided in the abolition of slavery. He
went on to become one of the most profound black American leaders of the 18th century, he helped
shape and lead the way for the anti slaverymovement.
Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in the early 18th century, approximately around 1818 in
Talbot County, Maryland. He was born as Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey to a slave whom
he never really knew and he never really knew his father, who is presumed to be a plantation owner;

Corporate Social Responsibility of Levi Strauss
It is the nature of business to expand its business and increase sales. What is ethical? In my
opinion ethics are defined by what is right. Some ethics are defined by law but many must come
from within the person or business. One must realize that sometimes what might be considered
unethical by law or ethical by law might need to be revisited and thought about if the law or lack of
it produces unethical outcomes.
In doing business so many times an organization must think globally. This might be done to
increase sales and/or profits or to lower labor costs. In either case problems can occur due to ethical
and cultural barriers in global expansion. In this paper I will attempt to show some of what a global
organization and a cultural issue that affects their interactions outside the United States by
identifying and comparing some of these cultural differences.
One company that faces these cultural issues daily is Levi Strauss and Company. Levi Strauss and
Company is a large American company founder in 1853 and is well known for its denim line.
Currently Levi Strauss and Co. has operations in over 110 countries with over half of its corporate
revenues coming from outside the United States. In American history we have all heard complaints
of companies in the garment industry hiring underage employees outside the United States and
poor working conditions. Levi Strauss and Company has not been left out of these accusations.

The Ford Production Of Ford Pinto
The Ford automobile company began producing the Ford Pinto line up in 1968. The Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) at the time of the pinto production was Lee Iacocca. The reason for the
decision to mass produce the pinto in a short amount of time is because American automobiles were
losing market share to smaller Japanese imports. Lee Iacocca wanted his engineers to design and
manufacture a compact car that weighed less than 2,000 pounds and cost less than 2,000 dollars.
Because of this monumental task from Lee Iacocca, that meant the ford pintoautomobile would have
to be built within 25 months instead of the typical 43 months. There are many safety test that is

The savings from not installing the baffle was $20.9 million dollars. The Ford Motor Company s
reputation also suffered. From a utilitarian theory, the Ford Motor Company focus on damage
arising from this decision of money and nothing else. Money is seen as value by the Ford Motor
Company, so by losing money by law suites and protecting the Ford Motor Company employees
outweigh the collateral damage the Ford Pintos line up imposes. Jeremy Bentham brings to
light the pleasure and pain aspect of what the decision would bring. In this case the Ford Motor
Company expresses that the money saved from the recall brings more pleasure to the most
amount of people. The money being saved is obviously from not installing the baffle between
the gas tank and rear bumper. The consumer will also save money by the Ford Motor Company
not issuing a recall. If the Ford Motor Company issued a recall, then the price of the Ford Pinto
would be more than what was stated thus maybe making it not comparable to other cars in its
class. You must also consider the pain that this decision creates. Because the Ford Motor
Company refused to issue a recall to install the baffle between the gas tank and the bumper, it has
created pain and suffering to those who were affected by rear end collision injuries. You have to
consider the Ford Motor Company s reputation after they made the decision to not recall the Ford

Anxiety And Mood Disorder Analysis
Anxiety and mood disorders are psychiatric problems characterized by a feeling of
apprehensiveness about a probable future danger and alterations in mood over a long period of time
respectively (Butcher, Hooley, Mineka, 2016). Both disorders are associated with reasonable
impairment, distress, mortality, and morbidity especially in children.
One of the factors causing an alarming increase in the diagnosis of mood and anxiety disorders in
the recent past is the increased incidence of psychopathology (John Stirling, 2013). This
phenomenon out rightly underpins the disease progress since psychiatric disorders have a high
level of comorbidity (DeRubeis Strunk, 2017). Alcohol and drug abuse are often reported in

Although John Kennedy managed to achieve this great feat against communism, he did
overstep some of the rights as President. It was a very risky order to blockade Cuban waters and
coastlines, and it could have easily started a full scale war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact. If
a Soviet vessel had refused to comply with U.S. orders to halt, they may have been fired on by one
of the many nearby American ships. Several Soviet ships were also boarded and inspected by
American sailors ( 32 ). The chance of war breaking out was very real, but it did not occur due to
Premier Khrushchev ordering an immediate return of all Soviet Navy ships headed to Cuba.
The blockade was not to be removed until all Soviet missiles were removed from the Cuban island (

standing up against the USSR showed the American people just how capable and strong leader
was. Because of this, he is often considered to be one of the most highly regarded presidents of all

The Similarities And Differences Between Virginia And...
Virginia and Massachusetts Bay were slave owning colonies; however, their practices were very
different. The roots of these differences were the reasons that Europeans left their home countries to
travel to the New World. Due to their strong patriarchalist social order, Virginia leans towards a
more economical society. On the other hand, MassachusettsBay was influenced by a large group of
Puritans and a relatively small group of egalitarians; hence it was more of a religious society.
These distinctions based on their lifestyle resulted in very different kinds of life experiences for
the slaves in these two colonies. The location of Virginiawas great for large plantations; therefore
many settlers were there to grow cash crops to become wealthy.

The Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Weapons
Nuclear weapons were thought to be able to the end war for mankind. But at the same time,
people who believe this don t realize the damage it causes to the many different lives that inhabit
this world. A nuclear weapon is a military weapon that was created to go to war and kill. It also
has been used as a protection to the nation or country from unknown people that isn t suppose to
be there in the first place( How Do Nuclear Weapons Work? 1). Nuclear weapons could never be
justified due to the destruction it has created over the past year and century. For example, due to
the nuclear weapons chemical fission in it, many organisms die, land brutally got destroyed and
made humans greedy for power.
Every single nuclear weapon works in different ways depending where they were made. But the
main way that a single nuclear weapon would work would be due to there being a nucleus in the
center of every atom ( How Do Nuclear Weapons Work? 2). Breaking that nucleus apart or
combining two nuclei together can release large amounts of energy (2). Nuclear weapons use
that energy to create an explosion (2). In other words, it would be used to kill enemies and bring
terror. Due to the explosive compressed nuclear material, causing fission; the fission releases
massive amounts of energy in the form of x rays, which create the high temperature and pressure
needed to ignite fusion (2). Meaning, for any nuclear weapon to work it would need fission to
generate an explosion (3). There are

Chromium-6 Research Paper
56% of our population in The United States uses tap water on a daily basis. We shower in it,

Well, yearly groundwater tests should be taken. Even if they are expensive; it is better to pay the
small amount now, than having to pay millions of dollars for the health expenses of people later.
There is a huge chance that chromium could be in our water; chromium is a chemical that is used
extensively by different industries. For example, it is used to prevent corrosion in pipes (PG E),
leather tanning and electroplating. Electroplating is the process of changing the surface of a metal

The EPA issued that the limit for Chromium in drinking wateris 100 parts per billion. But there are
yet to be limits on the amount of Chromium 6 in our drinking water. There is currently no federal

Chromium at certain concentrations could actually be a nutrient. Chromium 6 (Hexavalent
Chromium) in our water is a dangerous to have, but if it is reduced to Chromium 3, it becomes a

The Impact Of Victim Impact Statements On Sentencing From...
Assessment 4: Essay
1.Evaluate the use of Victim Impact Statements in sentencing from the perspective of victims and
offenders.
The Impact of victims of crime has long been considered to be overlooked when it comes to the
criminal justice system. It is common for victims of crime to feel powerless and without a voice in
the criminal justice system. However, since 1980 Australian victims have had the chance to be
heard through a document called a Victim Impact Statement, giving the victim a chance to tell the
courts about the effect that the crime has burdened on them individually, physically and
emotionally as well as their families and friends as a society.
According to the Australian Institute of Criminology (2016) A Victim Impact Statement (VIS) is a
statement about the impact that a crime has had on the victim, once an offender has been convicted
and is to be sentenced. A VIS can provide you with an opportunity to participate in the criminal
justice process by informing the court about the effects of the crime on you.
The criminal justice system aims to support victims and this has been a process that is forever
changing. With the introduction of the VIS it has proven to have a twofold effect. If the offender
is found guilty their sentences were usually made to be more severe. However, many offenders
have been found innocent as the VIS had no effect as the victim was perceived and seen as
vindictive (Bandes and Salerno, 2014).

An Essay On Appalachian Culture
Appalachia is a culture based upon the ancient traditions and customs that have made its way
through the years. Appalachia is a descriptive term referring to things in the Appalachian region.
The style of dance or music would be a prime example of things in that particular region. The
culture of the people began as really poor people who went West to survive on their own and
avoid tax and toleration of the Eastern States. People who are from there or native to the region
are generally close knit, and fiercely defensive of friends and family and skeptical of outsiders.
Yet, despite the lack of educational education, they had a lot of pride for who they were and their

people and the work they put into each item they present. Whether that be a pot or a basket we

This doesn t mean it s infected. If it is infected, there will be a lot more drainage and the area
around the ulcer will be much redder in color than normal. Venous stasis ulcers need to be
cleaned and debrided to remove all dead tissues and to promote formation of healthy granulation
tissue. Some doctors clean the wound with a mild soap and others use a wound cleaner. There
are a few methods doctors use to debride an ulcer but the most common is where the doctor
takes a scalpel and scrapes away all dead tissue within the ulcer and around the wound. If the
ulcer has a lot of yellow fibrous tissue, the debridement may have to be done under local
anesthesia because this can be a very painful procedure. Dead tissue has to be removed for two
reasons; one it harbors bacteria so if the wound is already infected it helps clear up the infection
and if the wound is not yet infected it greatly reduces the possibility of infection (Foot Pain
Explained). Secondly, healthy tissue cannot form where there is an abundance of dead tissue so
healing will be delayed (Foot Pain Explained). Depending on the wound, the doctor is the one who
decides which method of debridement to use. After the cleaning and debridement, a dressing is
applied. There are many types of dressings: moist dressings, hydrogel and hydrocolloid dressing,
alginate dressings, collagen wound dressings, antimicrobial dressings, and composite dressings.

Catch 22 War Quotes
Catch 22
War does not determine who is right... only who is left. This inspirational quote, stated by
Bertrand Russell, really gives us a clear depiction of the ineffectiveness of going to war. In the
book Catch 22, written by Joseph Heller, the art of going to war is viewed as a very trivial,
frivolous way of solving disputes between countries with differing opinions. In general, war is one
of the many solutions to solving a conflict of interests, usually occurring on both national and
international level. Heller s book gives a very fatalistic view on the basic anatomy of war,
explaining why it is an unnecessary conflict between individuals that do not know each other for
causes that they may not even fully believe in, completely illustrating the hopelessness of war.
Among many other great war novels stands Catch 22, and by analyzing the pre arranged
impossibility of leaving the army, observing how Yossarian s experiences affect his mental state,
and understanding why Yossarian s will to live is so strong, readers may be able to grasp Heller s
views on war, and in the end, perceive why war should not the preeminent choice that groups with
differing opinions come to. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lower Back Pain Essay
Lower back pain is a serious matter. Pain in the lumbar/spine area can be crippling and can impact
your lifestyle. It is something that shouldn t be taken lightly. Lumbar spine pain can be blamed on
many things. Discomfort in the spine, elbows, knees, spinal discs and bones can be traced muscular
problems, disc degeneration, herniation, and lumbar stenosis and osteoarthritis. Contemporary
research shows that three out of four individuals will endure the painand suffer from lower back pain
during their lifetime. Lower back should not last more than three days. If pain persists, it s wise to

My Strengths And Challenges In My Life
Every individual will at some point in their life face obstacles that can hinder their growth;
however, it is up to each individual to decide whether these obstacles will stop them entirely or
carve them into a stronger, more perseverant being. I have faced various obstacles in my life, but I
believe that my obstacles specifically those related to my shoulderhealth have developed me into
the resilient man I am today. To explain, three days into my freshman year, I tore my labrum in
my right shoulder at football practice. Although I had surgery to repair it, I knew my chances of
being a three sport athlete were diminished. I was forced to stop playing football and wrestling,
but I was lucky enough to be cleared to play baseball. High school baseball was my dream ever
since I was a child, so I knew what it meant to the younger kids in my community. Now, it was my
time to show them who I was, and I refused to let that be taken from me. For this reason, I began
devoting much of my time to baseball.
My first season went well, but my team did not do as well, so I couldn t wait for summer
baseball. Unfortunately, while playing in the summer, I began to feel intense shoulder pain.
Initially, I tried to hide my pain because I was scared that baseball would be taken from me.
Eventually, though, I couldn t hide my pain and I dislocated my left shoulder several times in a
single game. I faced a similar obstacle a year prior, and I decided once again to have surgery to

The Controversy Over Internet Censorship
Thesis: There has been much debate about the commonwealth s and the Australian communications

such as freedom to talk about ideas, to talking to people around the world. In china there are

When Dishwashing Is Wrong
There are two reasons your glassware looks cloudy when you pull it out of the dishwasher. One is
film. Hard water, incomplete rinsing and high water temperatures can all contribute to filming. To
remove the film, simply soak your glasses in undiluted white vinegar for 15 minutes, rinse them off
and let them dry. Etching, however, also causes cloudy glassand is a much more dire problem.
Etching is actually tiny scratches and gouges in the glass. While filming deposits residue on the
surface of the glass, etching pits and damages the surface. There is no way to fix an etched glass or
remove the etching, Once the damage is done, it s permanent. Fortunately, there are ways to prevent
it.
Stop Rinsing
Does your significant other complain every time you drop a dish into the dishwasher without
rinsing it first? Good news they re wrong! People rinse dishes to remove any food debris before
the dishwasher s drying cycle bakes it on. It seems, however, that rinsing the dishes is actually
detrimental. Dishwasher detergent is designed to cut through food debris. When there is no food
waste present, it powers through your glassware instead. Although you certainly don t want to put
chunks of food in your dishwasher, it s actually beneficial to leave the milk ring in the bottom of

Artists of The Impressionism Movement Essay
Impressionism was born from the urge to break free from the constraints of Art forms in the 19th
century. Many studies under mentors who passed on the traditional styles painting form and figure,
but some spoke of revolutionizing the art world. World events and public attitude toward art
allowed impressionists to break free from the mainstream French Art scene.
Impressionism was initially forged out of a love for nature. The artists were interested in depicting
reality as they saw beauty in even the mundane facets of life. The brush strokes and color changes
are obvious and the choppy effect sometimes has to be viewed at a distance to determine the

After much persistence and rejection, by 1868 all of the Intransigents were displayed at the Salon.
Once they were in, they were dissatisfied with the profit driven atmosphere of the Salon and
sought to have their own exhibition. They had little success with their own exhibition and during
the Franco German war, their leader Bazille was killed in action. A young artist by Edward Degas
joined the group shortly bringing a renewed sense of passion for exhibiting their impressionist
works. The group began planning their first exhibition separate from the Salon.
The effects of the Franco Prussian war rippled throughout France years after it ended in 1871.
The government saw the need to rebuild France and sought to start by rebuilding the hopes of
the people in government through art. The Salon became the outlet for patriotic and rebuilding
themes since it was a State sponsored gallery. Many critics became aware of the problems with
this and spoke out on the lack of genius coming from French artists of that time. One critic,
Charles Blanc, compared the state sponsored gallery to a supermarket and suggested the artists
have more freedom in displaying their art. These series of events opened doors for the
Impressionists. By no accident, they displayed their own exhibition a week after Blanc s article
was published. The exhibition was held in the renowned photographer Nadar s studio and Degas

Public Health Power
Public Health Power
The Constitution distribute public health powers into two categories the federal government and
the states (Gostin, 2000). The Federal government, when it comes to public health have the control
over taxing, spending, and regulating the activity of buying. Federal public health powers include
the authority to tax, spend, and regulate interstate commerce. This control allows the Federal

public s interest (Gostin, 2000). Each individual State have taken on some of this public health

and influence in public health through other methods that are less direct. For example, by
regulating commerce, promoting and advocating the welfare of the general population, and raising
money by taxing income (Turnock Atchison, 2002).
Public health power influences are constantly growing. During the twentieth century majority of the
expansion happened for public health power, because of the federal government s position in
primarily focusing on protecting the public in food and drug safety, environmental protection, and
occupational health and safety, and many others. The Federal government influence stretched
higher levels when the federal government purchase a major part of personal health care services

He needed an FM radioIt would have crushed velvet interior with electric controlexotic colognes all
of these contribute to the theme of selfishness and greed. He does not need an FM radio but rather
wants one. Everything he wants contributes to his rapaciousness.
The most prevalent theme in this story is loneliness. Jake is obviously lonely, so much so that
he stoops to such pathetic lines as, I m kinda hoping so, just so it takes a little more time and we
can talk some. Or else you can give me your phone number now and I won t have to lay my
regular b.s. on you to get it later. His loneliness also shows when Gilb describes how, her hand
felt so warm and soft he felt like he d been kissed. Jake seems to crave the human intimacy of
love, and yet all he does is flirt with a woman whom he does not even care for enough to be
truthful to. This is also situational irony. Corresponding with this theme of loneliness is the
concept that everyone is looking for love. This need is very evident in Jake and is also displayed
in Mariana. No intelligent female would even relent a little in the face of such an apparent
swindler as Jake. However, Mariana must be a little flattered and lonely because she smiles at his
attentions and even makes small talk with him.
Among these themes, lies another one; there are infinite possibilities. Any one person can meet

How Principals Should Apply Instructional Leadership...
In a well researched and scholarly book, Doctors Joesph and Jo Blase accomplish two tasks:
outlining how principals should apply instructional leadership skills while performing their jobs,
and describing how principals should maintain positive relationships with their teachers while still
effectively leading. As well published, credentialed authors in the field of educational leadership,
the both of the Blases serve as credible sources on the topic. To accomplish their desired tasks, the
authors divide the book into brief chaptersthat each explain either an attribute of instructional
leadership or a method for maintaining positive principal teacher relations. According to the authors
themselves, the book s shows what successful instructional leaders do to enhance teaching and
learning and the effects that their behaviors have on teachers performance and well being (xiii).
Through the authors careful organization of research, use of primary sources, and use of secondary
sources, the book accomplishes this goal.
To organize their research, the Blases first divide their information into the broad categories of
Part I: The Art and Science of Instructional Leadership and Part II: How Supervisor s Behaviors
Positive and Negative Affect Teachers. By first dividing their information into these two broad
categories, the authors effectively organize their research. While the concept of carrying out

The Theme Of Knowledge In Seed By Lisa Heathfield

through the character development of Pearl, the depth of settings and ambiguity. Seed s narrative
quality explores that knowledge does not always make one influential, however, not acquiring
knowledge is a relieving sensation.
The development of Pearl was highlighted through the narration of the book, explicitly describing
how she felt when Ellis would express his conflicting opinions on Papa S s practices. The narrative
of Pearl conveyed her as an innocent character who was unaware of the good from people outside
of her cult, named Seed. She preferred not to bother herself with teachings other than what Papa S

Is Sexual Selection Within Male Pharomachrus Mocinno...
Title: Is Sexual Selection In Male Pharomachrus mocinno favoured by Longer Plume Tail Length
due to Increase in Colour?
Introduction:
The Pharomachrus mocinno has evolved many behavioural and physical traits as a result of
adaptation to the current environment and lifestyle it leads, however this proposal will focus on the
unusual plume tail length of the male P. mocinno. This particular species habitat requires nests as
high as 22 meters in rotting trees (Seigfried et al. 2010). Therefore, the function of the feathers
would typically be assumed to enhance flight, as that would make sense as a useful function in this
scenario due to the high elevation. Surprisingly, however, the long length of the plume tail actually
decreases the speed of the male bird due to the drag force of air (Norberg 1995) and requires it to
drop backward off the branches before being able to fly forward normally (LaBastille et al.
1972). With such issues with the long plume tails, would sexual selection really be in this traits
favour? In a study done on the widowbird such was the case; males with longer plumes were
mated the most (Andersson 1982). However, the widowbird is completely black (including its
tail), while in the case of Pharomachrus mocinno it is a very colourful bird. Previous studies also
have shown, that the bright reflective colours on the male s bodies help in attracting females
(LaBastille et al. 1972).
Therefore, it s possible that the long length of the P. mocinno male s

Why Is Anzac Day Important
Why is the Anzac Centenary important for Modern Australia?
Every year, Anzac Day is celebrated across the nation, unifying Australians regardless of their
background or place of birth to commemorate the service and sacrifice displayed by the men and
women of the Anzac Forces. The 25th of April 2015, will mark the Centenary of the Gallipoli
Campaign, and will be one of the most significant commemorations to take place of its generation.
Despite the Campaign having been deemed a disaster with a large number of casualties along with
the failure to achieve military victory, it has contributed tremendously to the development of
Australia s culture and identity. This Campaign observed the emergence of the Anzac Legend,
encompassing the distinguishing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the Victorian Bushfires, for example, many Australian communities were confronted with
tremendous loss and hardship. It was during these times that the Anzac Spirit was very apparent
amongst the community, with the emergence of everyday Australians surfacing as heroes.
Australian volunteers from across communities, along with official government services came
together to assist victims and to ease their suffering in providing them shelter, basic necessities, as
well as moral support. Nick Jans, a Vietnam Veteran, said the generosity shown after the bushfires
invoked the Anzac spirit, which he stated was not just a matter of the armed forces but deeply
embedded in the Australian psyche 4. It is through the influence of Anzac Legend that has inspired
Australians to recapture the Anzac spirit, engraining the attributes displayed by them to their very
own thinking process. Through such times, the significance of the Anzac Legend and its strong
links and influence to the Australian community are clear. Therefore, the Anzac Centenary is
tremendously important for modern Australia in acknowledging and honoring the Anzac soldiers
that fought in Gallipoli, forming an inheritance that presently, has great meaning and relevance

The Great White Shark, By Paul J. Crutzen And Eugene F....
In the early 2000s, the Anthropocene emerged as a widespread term to represent the current era of
Earth s history. According to Paul J. Crutzen and Eugene F. Stoermer, the Anthopocene represents a
geologic epoch characterized by human activities that profoundly transform the environment,
threaten ecosystems, and cause unparalleled disruptions on earth s natural processes. (Ogden et al.
2013: 341) Unfortunately, humanity in the period of the Anthropocene has contributed to a range
of environmental problems, including pollution and mass extinctions. (Ogden et al. 2013: 341) One
ancient species considerably at risk in the Anthropocene is the Great White Shark. Despite its
precarious position and its imminent eradication, the Great White Sharkmust be respected and
understood. In an attempt to reveal the intrinsic value of the oceans most important predator,
humans must shed conceptions of Great White Sharks as mindless man eating monsters and instead
conceive of them in a new light. Ultimately, a thorough exploration reveals Great Whites inherent
value independent of their worth to humans. Furthermore, it serves as an important framework for
thinking about the harmful consequences human practices have the environment. Ultimately, this
examination changes humankinds attitudes towards the Great White and dispels popular myths to
reveal that all species are fundamentally related and share a common destiny.
Great White Sharks are the largest predatory fish and

A Certain Night Questions
A Certain Night Questions
Knowledge and Understanding 1. As it is quite obvious in the story, the narrator does not think that
these men and women deserve to die. This is abundant when in the very last line of the story the
narrator states, when will it be light? 2. Throughout the story, the narrator describes the communists
as young, brave and handsome, although they are powerless martyrs. The narrator makes the
nationalist seem murderous looking, and cunning, malicious and smug. The chief executioner has a
revolting moustache, and an evil voice , as well as an ugly and vicious face, which seemed to
symbolize the cruelty of all the rulers to the oppressed. This made it easy enough to distinguish

Not only of his death, but also by showing her passion for her beliefs. 6. A major theme in the
story is to stand your ground, and fight for what you believe in. In other words, be willing to die for
what you stand for, but proudly. Another theme is showing the absolute cruelty of humans. It is
showing the brutal behaviors humans can portray on one another.
Thinking and Inquiry 1. The tone of this story is dark and bitter. Ting Ling achieves this in the
characters emotions throughout the story. This is also shown through imagery, through the gloomy
vibe of the story. Ting Ling used figurative language and vivid descriptions to make the story come
across as both bitter and dark. 2. The setting of the story contributes to the tone because it is set up
during a dark, cold, windy, snowy night. The overall mood of the story was both gloomy and
somber, which contributes to the tone I think Ting Ling was going for. Everything from the
prisoners falling down in the snow, to the soldiers stomping throughout it, made the tone come alive
through the text. 3. There are many different symbols throughout the story. For the chief
executioner, he resembles both cruelty and oppression whereas the young poet symbolizes
innocence and better reform. At the end when the prisoners are singing to their death, it shows a
sense of resistance, which symbolizes the acceptance of their death. 4. The sound of trampling feet

Using The Group Membership Method Resemble Those Found By...
Results in the present study produced using the group membership method resemble those found
by Lusseau et al. (2003) in which the Doubtful Sound population could be divided into three sub
groups. The composition of groups however is somewhat different. This is in part due to different
individuals being present / alive during their study than in the current study. Where all individuals
present in both studies are placed across all three defined groups in Lusseau et al. s (2003) study,
all but Kringel fall into the same single group in the present study. This suggests that, while the
overall sub group structure may have been maintained over time, there is a degree of fluidity among
members of sub groups. This is the very nature of a fission fusion society, where group
composition is dynamic over time (Grellier et al. 2003). The three sub groups may be an apparently
permanent feature of the populationwhen using the group membership method, with the fission
fusion nature of bottlenose dolphins defining the composition of each group through time. It must
be noted however that Lusseau et al. s (2003) study was over a period of seven years, where 546
days were spent on the water. Due to the immense differences in field effort, direct comparisons are
made with caution. Previous pilot work, which spanned only 6 days, also yielded similar results
using the group membership method.
The seven sub groups defined for the whole population using indices from the time based method

Mediator Effect of Base 10 concept Score To answer the second question, I want to testify the
mediator effect of base 10 concept understanding to the estimation accuracy and R2. As
described before, firstly I conducted the linear regression to analyze the percentage of absolute

The base 10 concept score was correlated to the R2, r= .44, p .01, partial effect ОІ = .35. Every
increased unit of the base 10 concept score is expected to increase .20 unit of R2. In the present
study, the base 10 concept score decreased the correlation between PAE and linearity R2, r2=
.31*.44= .14, which is lower than the direct effect between PAE and estimation accuracy. The
results means that the base 10 concept score decreased the residues of estimation errors were
positively correlated to the linearity of mental number line. Give the fix effect of the base 10
concept score, increase estimation accuracy could be expected to effectively boost the linearity of
mental number line. The variance of estimation accuracy could be explained by R2 given children s
encoding of 10ness on the linear number lines. However, when entering the mediator of the base 10
concept score, use the Manipulatives encoding base 10 concept could decrease the correlation
between the estimation accuracy and linearity of R2. That is to say, for the children with low
estimation accuracy, enhancing base 10 concept instructions would not necessarily increase the
positive correlation between the estimation and linearity R2 of mental number line. For the children
who are even with low estimation accuracy, using the number line game with 10ness landmarks,
might not effectively boost their number magnitudes understanding. Therefore, I conclude that the

Onion powder, different from onion salt, is made from dried onions that have been ground into a
fine powder. Though commonly confused, onion powder and onion salt are two very different
things. Both are made from dehydrated onions, but onion salt has one part salt to every five parts of
dehydrated onion. Contemporary versions typically utilize dried granulated onion and salt, and
usually include an anticaking agent (Wikipedia Onion Powder). Onion powder is significantly
healthier for you when consumed in small amounts, meaning that if you consume a large amount of
this powder, you receive too much of the nutrients and other health benefits it provides, making it
unhealthy. Some health benefits of onion powder is that it is rich in dietary

America. However, passengers find many issues on their flights at first class. Unfortunately,
complaints against airlines in the U.S. soared 70%. There are many problems happen before and
during flights with passengers, such as poor services for passengers, bad quality of food,
uncomfortable seats, and delay of baggage when the flight arrives.
People in the first class expect a good service with a high quality and quick process because they
pay overmuch money. However, sometimes passengers wait for a long time in waiting area, also
the process of chick in are very slow that makes passengers delay and get into the plane with the
economy passenger at the same time. In addition, the crews work without efficiency with
passengers. Many passengers are upset for not bring what they need quickly. For instant, one of the
passenger had a really strange case with United airline first class from San Francisco to Medford,
when the crew told him the trip is canceled because the crew wanted to take a nap. The crew was
disrespectful with the passengers because passengers were waiting for this flight for a long time
in the waiting area, and the crew should have changed instead of canceling the flight. That means
united airline doesn t care about the passengers. Moreover, there was passenger asked one of the
flight attendants to bring him a cup of water. Then, the flight attendants didn t turn up, when the
passenger asked her where is the water, she said I was busy and there are many passengers that I
should serve them. These are few examples of bad services, and there are many.
One of the most important things in the plane is the foods and drinks. Although the first class
ticket is very expensive, people pay for drinks in the airplane because they are not included in
the ticket cost. The cost of the wines and beers is very expensive. Moreover, People always
complain that the foods are not good that serve in the plane. They said the foods are not tasty, and

The Time Of The Super Elite
¬¬¬The time between 2007 and 2009 was devastating for America and most of the world. It

also put a massive amount of people out of a job and into debt. Throughout this time, almost
everyone hurt, from homeowners to massive corporations that is besides the market of the super
elite. During this time that people and companies struggled to keep up, while the elite class was
still living life to its fullest. 55% of the adults in U.S. labor force have experienced some work
related hardship. Whether by choice or necessity, many Americans have already significantly
scaled back their pre recession money habits. Americans have changed their lifestyles in many
different ways to make ends meet during this recession. 71% percent of those polled have

and Zhang Zhi Dong (еј д№‹жґћ) reported to the government to eliminate the Civil Examination.
The reason I am writing this policy report is because I see it is necessary to still keep the exam
system, but we surely need to change the exam system if we do not eliminate it. The old goal of
the Civil Examination is to pick elites from population to work as government official and have a
powerful impact on China s social mobility, and the new goal of it will be accommodating science
without eliminating the Civil Service Examination. However, I am writing to advise and report to
try our best to keep both goals in the exam system. I will talk about the details of why we should
not eliminate the exam system, why we need to change the system and what we are going to
change in the system and how we are going to implement these changes into the system and try to
minimize the contradiction between the old literature elites and new scientific elites. Background
The function of Civil Service Examination is for recruitment and admission to the civil service, and
for the Ancient Chinese government it mainly functioned as a tool to pick literature elites who are
capable to work for the country. It broke the tradition of genealogical monopoly in using people in
the government and it certainly

  • 2. Merida, A Modern Personification Of The Great Mother... Mythological stories are still being used in modern era by society to understand the world and life. Its use is noticeable on media directed towards adolescent or the younger audience. Disney is known for basing their movies on mythological stories, but there has been a shift to how they use these stories. Disney Princesses such as Snow white, Aurora, Belle, were a reflection to goddesses like Aphrodite, a goddessof love, beauty and desire. Modern Princesses such as Merida, Elsa, Moana, tie to Artemis, goddess of wilderness, virginity, and protector. Most modern princesses, specially Merida, depict the mythological archetype, the Great Mother. David A. Leeming, author of The World of Myth, describes the Great Mother as earth, body of nourishment, and symbol of death and rebirth. The Great Mother represents nature and motherhood, and is an agent of rebirth or transformation. In the movie Brave, Princess Merida is on the quest to mend her mistake of changing her mother into a bear because she wanted to change her fate. Merida is a modern personification of the Great Mother archetype by having a strong connection with nature, behaving as the mother of her kingdom, and going through and influencing spiritual transformation. Leeming states that The Great Mother is also described as Mother earth. She is connected to fertility and has a deep connection with the environment. The movie Brave depicts Merida s connection with nature throughout the whole story. The song playing in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sensory Loss Essays ensory loss Acquired Sensory Loss This is when somebody is born without any sensory loss, but then has an accident or illness which causes a sensory loss. Illness Diabetes: The most serious complication of diabetes for the eye is the development of diabetic retinopathy. Diabetes affects the tiny blood vessels of the eye and if they become blocked or leak then the retina and possibly your vision will be affected. Measles: Measles blindness is the single leading cause of blindness among children in low income countries, accounting for an estimated 15,000 to 60,000 cases of blindness per year. This may be due to an accident, illness, a genetic condition, e.g. a syndrome such as Usher, Alstrom, and Stickler, etc. or as a result of aging in later life. In children and young people if these problems occur later in life, this is called acquired Deafblindness. From skillsforcare.org.uk Congenital When someone is born with combined sight and hearing difficulties this is called congenital Deafblindness. Examples of this include conditions such as Rubella or CHARGE. Congenital can also refer to people who have lost vision/ hearing before the acquisition of language, i.e. in their very early years. From skillsforcare.org.uk Deaf: deaf with a small d simply refers to the medical condition of hearing loss. However, most people who use BSL/ ISL refer to themselves as Deaf. The use of upper case D indicates a language preference and is also a political and cultural term of belonging to the Deaf community. It is used in the same way that people who belong to a national, cultural or religious group would describe themselves, for example, as French or Muslim. It is for this reason that many Deaf people do not define themselves as disabled, rather they describe themselves as belonging to a cultural or linguistic minority Deafened: A person who was born hearing and subsequently became severely or profoundly deaf

  • 5. Should Heart Of Darkness Be Taught In Schools Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a highly debated book over whether or not it should be read in schools. Many people see Heart of Darkness as a racist book that is blatantly offensive to African Americans, but others view Heart of Darkness as an important book that explores many complex ideas, such as the internal conflict between a man s sanity and insanity, and Conrad s opposition to Imperialism, which was very prevalent during the time the book was written. While the opponents of Heart of Darknesssay that this book should not be read in schools, I believe the book can be utilized in an academic environment. The opposers to this book do make a reasonable and correct point that this book uses very strong language and seems to be racist, Conrad did not intend to convey racist perspectives, rather, taking on that role to further his point towards Imperialism. Although it uses strong language in the book, that was used to show how Europeans viewed Africans during the time period. This should be read in an academic environment because it is a very well written text and can be used to show the effect of Imperialism during the 19th and 20th century.... Marlow is an exaggerated version of the Europeans during the time period. He does this to show the flaws in how proponents of Imperialism felt. The book s original intention was to show the negative effects of Imperialism and how they affected people. The exaggerated racism of Marlow is to show how close minded Imperialists are and how, they themselves are racist. In this perspective, Conrad is not racist, but fighting for the rights of the ... • 6. Book Theif Love Quotes The Power of Love The human heart feels things the eyes cannot see, and knows what the mind cannot understand. This quote, stated by Robert Vallet, resonates with all human beings irrespective of their race, religion, or culture. The Book Thief, written by Marcus Zusak and narrated by death, tells an eye opening story from the perspective of a small group of Germans who silently, secretly and courageously opposed Nazism during the time of the Holocaust. While death is featured prominently throughout the story, ultimately, love shines through. This is seen not only in The Book Thief, but in everyday life. Hence, Zusak s purpose in writing The Book Thief is to expose his readers to the exceptional, yet beautiful power of love: how love can save a person, change a person, and ultimately be everlasting. The bond of love between individuals has the power to save lives. It supersedes the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They heaved blankets down and topped up the kerosene lamp. Rosa admitted that there could not be much food, to which Max fervently asked her to bring only scraps, and only when they were not wanted by anyone else. Na, na, Rosa assured him. You will be fed, as best I can ... Soon enough, it was the book thief s turn to visit the basement. They made her (Zusak 208, 209). Rosa and Hans had unknowingly changed Liesel s perspective by showing her that taking care of Max was the right thing to do. Although in the beginning Liesel was a bit wary of Max, she learned to love after observing her foster parents actions. Another example of someone who changed perspectives through the power of love is Jesus Christ, particularly changing the perspective of one man: the power hungry apostle Jude, who wanted to make Jesus a ruling King and emperor over the people. 22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the ... • 7. Sister Act Analysis The Sister Act, a musical theatre show, written by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, was a hit musical during the late two thousand, making all the way to Broadway. It has its roots in the era of disco, with all types of different distinctions from modern types of music, and with its plot, it also delves into the realm of hymns and old gospel music, which all culminates into a musical theatreextravaganza. It being a musical, makes it hard to distinguish one genre in particular, but the overlying theme seems to be based on late 70 s disco (as that is the setting for the musical in the first place). The line up of instruments were: two keyboardists, a trumpet, a clarinet, a saxophone, a flute, an electric bass, drums, and a lot of vocalists. All the woodwinds and brass instruments were covered by one guy, and a lot more additional instrumentation was covered by the keyboardist. Their instrumentation in the play seemed mediocre initially, but after listening to how they were able to cooperate with one another, to create harmonies sounding so consonant was incredibly interesting, especially with vocalists thrown in. The voices mixing with the instruments and vice versa made it sound almost angelical . The harmonies created were also very southern gospel sounding in certain points in the musical. The vocalists varied from scene to scene but in total, there seemed to be about 22 vocalists in all. Seeing the choir being fairly massive, in relation to the size ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Failure Of Failure After Failure As my first semester of college is coming to an end, I would like to reflect on my experience here within the Honors 120 and 121 class on Failure and the Question Wheel. I chose this class on failure because I have always held myself to such high standards that I hoped to be able to find a way to accept failure in some instances. Within our first week in class, we made claims about failure. My favorite claim was that every failure is in some way a success. Although this claim was not very debatable and incredibly generic, I was able to really let my mind explore what it was trying to say. Throughout the semester I experienced failure after failure, but that allowed me to see that success can still be achieved within failures. One major failure I experienced throughout the entire semester was my failure to speak up in class. In the beginning of the school year I failed to speak up mainly because I was shy and being around all new people whom I did not know made me feel very anxious. I thought that my anxietyabout this class would lessen over time as I got to know my fellow classmates. However, as time went on I realized that while a majority of my classmates share these anxious feelings with me, the other students that had been speaking up are very strong willed and can be judgmental at times. I then realized that I was scared to speak up in class because I feared that my ideas were not deep enough or that the normal speakers would think I was stupid. I feared ... • 11. Enkidu As A Hero In The Epic Of Gilgamesh In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu helps act as a catalyst for the transformation of Gilgamesh s character from an undefeatable god like brute into a complex thinker. In the eyes of Gilgamesh, he is unstoppable and is willing to challenge death itself so long as he is remembered as a hero by his subjects. With Enkidus help, Gilgamesh learns to become a better person as a ruler, not as a better warrior. Although not blood related, Enkidu was like a brother to Gilgamesh and the duo shared an inseparable bond. Throughout the epic, Enkidu teaches Gilgamesh that he is not unstoppable, being stubborn will not stop him from dying, and that there are no easy solutions to life. At the beginning of the epic, before Enkidu is introduced, Gilgamesh is described by the narrator as godly and fit for Uruk s throne by default. These descriptions are vital in order to interpret how the villagers feel and also to perceive just how mighty Enkidu has to be in order to rival Gilgamesh. Supreme over other kings, lordly in appearance, /he is the hero, born of Uruk, the goring wild bull. /He walks out in front, the leader, / (1. 27 29). The narrator speaks extremely fondly to emphasize just how mighty the main character is and that no other men in any of the nearby regions seem to come close when the level of their manliness is compared to that of Gilgamesh. The use of the words Supreme and Lordly indicate that in Gilgamesh s point of view, he is doing an excellent job of reigning over his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in the early 18th century, approximately around 1818 in Talbot County, Maryland. • 13. Corporate Social Responsibility of Levi Strauss It is the nature of business to expand its business and increase sales. What is ethical? In my opinion ethics are defined by what is right. Some ethics are defined by law but many must come from within the person or business. One must realize that sometimes what might be considered unethical by law or ethical by law might need to be revisited and thought about if the law or lack of it produces unethical outcomes. In doing business so many times an organization must think globally. This might be done to increase sales and/or profits or to lower labor costs. In either case problems can occur due to ethical and cultural barriers in global expansion. In this paper I will attempt to show some of what a global organization and a cultural issue that affects their interactions outside the United States by identifying and comparing some of these cultural differences. One company that faces these cultural issues daily is Levi Strauss and Company. Levi Strauss and Company is a large American company founder in 1853 and is well known for its denim line. Currently Levi Strauss and Co. has operations in over 110 countries with over half of its corporate revenues coming from outside the United States. • 14. The Ford Production Of Ford Pinto The Ford automobile company began producing the Ford Pinto line up in 1968. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the time of the pinto production was Lee Iacocca. The reason for the decision to mass produce the pinto in a short amount of time is because American automobiles were losing market share to smaller Japanese imports. Lee Iacocca wanted his engineers to design and manufacture a compact car that weighed less than 2,000 pounds and cost less than 2,000 dollars. • 19. The Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Weapons Nuclear weapons were thought to be able to the end war for mankind. But at the same time, people who believe this don t realize the damage it causes to the many different lives that inhabit this world. A nuclear weapon is a military weapon that was created to go to war and kill. It also has been used as a protection to the nation or country from unknown people that isn t suppose to be there in the first place( How Do Nuclear Weapons Work? 1). Nuclear weapons could never be justified due to the destruction it has created over the past year and century. For example, due to the nuclear weapons chemical fission in it, many organisms die, land brutally got destroyed and made humans greedy for power. Every single nuclear weapon works in different ways depending where they were made. But the main way that a single nuclear weapon would work would be due to there being a nucleus in the center of every atom ( How Do Nuclear Weapons Work? 2). Breaking that nucleus apart or combining two nuclei together can release large amounts of energy (2). Nuclear weapons use that energy to create an explosion (2). In other words, it would be used to kill enemies and bring terror. Due to the explosive compressed nuclear material, causing fission; the fission releases massive amounts of energy in the form of x rays, which create the high temperature and pressure needed to ignite fusion (2). Even if they are expensive; it is better to pay the small amount now, than having to pay millions of dollars for the health expenses of people later. There is a huge chance that chromium could be in our water; chromium is a chemical that is used extensively by different industries. The Impact of victims of crime has long been considered to be overlooked when it comes to the criminal justice system. It is common for victims of crime to feel powerless and without a voice in the criminal justice system. However, since 1980 Australian victims have had the chance to be heard through a document called a Victim Impact Statement, giving the victim a chance to tell the courts about the effect that the crime has burdened on them individually, physically and emotionally as well as their families and friends as a society. According to the Australian Institute of Criminology (2016) A Victim Impact Statement (VIS) is a statement about the impact that a crime has had on the victim, once an offender has been convicted and is to be sentenced. A VIS can provide you with an opportunity to participate in the criminal justice process by informing the court about the effects of the crime on you. The criminal justice system aims to support victims and this has been a process that is forever changing. With the introduction of the VIS it has proven to have a twofold effect. If the offender is found guilty their sentences were usually made to be more severe. However, many offenders have been found innocent as the VIS had no effect as the victim was perceived and seen as vindictive (Bandes and Salerno, 2014). The perception that the criminal ... Some doctors clean the wound with a mild soap and others use a wound cleaner. There are a few methods doctors use to debride an ulcer but the most common is where the doctor takes a scalpel and scrapes away all dead tissue within the ulcer and around the wound. If the ulcer has a lot of yellow fibrous tissue, the debridement may have to be done under local anesthesia because this can be a very painful procedure. Dead tissue has to be removed for two reasons; one it harbors bacteria so if the wound is already infected it helps clear up the infection and if the wound is not yet infected it greatly reduces the possibility of infection (Foot Pain Explained). Secondly, healthy tissue cannot form where there is an abundance of dead tissue so healing will be delayed (Foot Pain Explained). Depending on the wound, the doctor is the one who decides which method of debridement to use. After the cleaning and debridement, a dressing is applied. This inspirational quote, stated by Bertrand Russell, really gives us a clear depiction of the ineffectiveness of going to war. In the book Catch 22, written by Joseph Heller, the art of going to war is viewed as a very trivial, frivolous way of solving disputes between countries with differing opinions. In general, war is one of the many solutions to solving a conflict of interests, usually occurring on both national and international level. Heller s book gives a very fatalistic view on the basic anatomy of war, explaining why it is an unnecessary conflict between individuals that do not know each other for causes that they may not even fully believe in, completely illustrating the hopelessness of war. Among many other great war novels stands Catch 22, and by analyzing the pre arranged impossibility of leaving the army, observing how Yossarian s experiences affect his mental state, and understanding why Yossarian s will to live is so strong, readers may be able to grasp Heller s views on war, and in the end, perceive why war should not the preeminent choice that groups with differing opinions come to. ... The group began planning their first exhibition separate from the Salon. The effects of the Franco Prussian war rippled throughout France years after it ended in 1871. The government saw the need to rebuild France and sought to start by rebuilding the hopes of the people in government through art. The Salon became the outlet for patriotic and rebuilding themes since it was a State sponsored gallery. Many critics became aware of the problems with this and spoke out on the lack of genius coming from French artists of that time. One critic, Charles Blanc, compared the state sponsored gallery to a supermarket and suggested the artists have more freedom in displaying their art. These series of events opened doors for the Impressionists. By no accident, they displayed their own exhibition a week after Blanc s article was published. Love and Selfishness in Love in L.A. by Dagoberto Gilb Essay Love and Selfishness in Love in L.A. by Dagoberto Gilb Love in L.A., written by Dagoberto Gilb, is a story full of irony and multiple themes. The story is set in Hollywood during the summer time. Written in third person objective, Love in L.A. guides the reader along through the story as opposed to an omniscient point of view. The story begins with Jake driving on the freeway. He is so enraptured by his daydream of better possibilities that he ends up smacking the car ahead of him. Jake considers driving away but instead he stops and finds out that the owner of the Toyota he hit was a beautiful girl. From there, Jake switches into his smooth talker role with Mariana. He needed an FM radioIt would have crushed velvet interior with electric controlexotic colognes all of these contribute to the theme of selfishness and greed. He does not need an FM radio but rather wants one. Everything he wants contributes to his rapaciousness. The most prevalent theme in this story is loneliness. Jake is obviously lonely, so much so that he stoops to such pathetic lines as, I m kinda hoping so, just so it takes a little more time and we can talk some. Or else you can give me your phone number now and I won t have to lay my regular b.s. on you to get it later. His loneliness also shows when Gilb describes how, her hand felt so warm and soft he felt like he d been kissed. Jake seems to crave the human intimacy of love, and yet all he does is flirt with a woman whom he does not even care for enough to be truthful to. This is also situational irony. Corresponding with this theme of loneliness is the concept that everyone is looking for love. This need is very evident in Jake and is also displayed in Mariana. No intelligent female would even relent a little in the face of such an apparent swindler as Jake. However, Mariana must be a little flattered and lonely because she smiles at his attentions and even makes small talk with him. Among these themes, lies another one; there are infinite possibilities. In a well researched and scholarly book, Doctors Joesph and Jo Blase accomplish two tasks: outlining how principals should apply instructional leadership skills while performing their jobs, and describing how principals should maintain positive relationships with their teachers while still effectively leading. As well published, credentialed authors in the field of educational leadership, the both of the Blases serve as credible sources on the topic. To accomplish their desired tasks, the authors divide the book into brief chaptersthat each explain either an attribute of instructional leadership or a method for maintaining positive principal teacher relations. According to the authors themselves, the book s shows what successful instructional leaders do to enhance teaching and learning and the effects that their behaviors have on teachers performance and well being (xiii). Through the authors careful organization of research, use of primary sources, and use of secondary sources, the book accomplishes this goal. To organize their research, the Blases first divide their information into the broad categories of Part I: The Art and Science of Instructional Leadership and Part II: How Supervisor s Behaviors Positive and Negative Affect Teachers. By first dividing their information into these two broad categories, the authors effectively organize their research. Seed s narrative quality explores that knowledge does not always make one influential, however, not acquiring knowledge is a relieving sensation. The development of Pearl was highlighted through the narration of the book, explicitly describing how she felt when Ellis would express his conflicting opinions on Papa S s practices. The narrative of Pearl conveyed her as an innocent character who was unaware of the good from people outside of her cult, named Seed. She preferred not to bother herself with teachings other than what Papa S taught the cult. Nonetheless, her beliefs changed gradually from the appearance of Ellis. • 45. Is Sexual Selection Within Male Pharomachrus Mocinno... Title: Is Sexual Selection In Male Pharomachrus mocinno favoured by Longer Plume Tail Length due to Increase in Colour? Introduction: The Pharomachrus mocinno has evolved many behavioural and physical traits as a result of adaptation to the current environment and lifestyle it leads, however this proposal will focus on the unusual plume tail length of the male P. mocinno. This particular species habitat requires nests as high as 22 meters in rotting trees (Seigfried et al. 2010). Therefore, the function of the feathers would typically be assumed to enhance flight, as that would make sense as a useful function in this scenario due to the high elevation. Surprisingly, however, the long length of the plume tail actually decreases the speed of the male bird due to the drag force of air (Norberg 1995) and requires it to drop backward off the branches before being able to fly forward normally (LaBastille et al. 1972). With such issues with the long plume tails, would sexual selection really be in this traits favour? In a study done on the widowbird such was the case; males with longer plumes were mated the most (Andersson 1982). However, the widowbird is completely black (including its tail), while in the case of Pharomachrus mocinno it is a very colourful bird. Previous studies also have shown, that the bright reflective colours on the male s bodies help in attracting females (LaBastille et al. 1972). Therefore, it s possible that the long length of the P. mocinno male s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nick Jans, a Vietnam Veteran, said the generosity shown after the bushfires invoked the Anzac spirit, which he stated was not just a matter of the armed forces but deeply embedded in the Australian psyche 4. It is through the influence of Anzac Legend that has inspired Australians to recapture the Anzac spirit, engraining the attributes displayed by them to their very own thinking process. (2003) in which the Doubtful Sound population could be divided into three sub groups. The composition of groups however is somewhat different. This is in part due to different individuals being present / alive during their study than in the current study. Where all individuals present in both studies are placed across all three defined groups in Lusseau et al. s (2003) study, all but Kringel fall into the same single group in the present study. This suggests that, while the overall sub group structure may have been maintained over time, there is a degree of fluidity among members of sub groups. This is the very nature of a fission fusion society, where group composition is dynamic over time (Grellier et al. 2003). The three sub groups may be an apparently permanent feature of the populationwhen using the group membership method, with the fission fusion nature of bottlenose dolphins defining the composition of each group through time. It must be noted however that Lusseau et al. s (2003) study was over a period of seven years, where 546 days were spent on the water.
