Essay On Service
Writing an essay on the topic of service can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty
lies in navigating the vast landscape of perspectives and dimensions that the concept of service
encompasses. Service is not a monolithic entity; it spans across various sectors, from community
service to military service, and includes personal acts of kindness.
Crafting an effective essay on service requires a deep understanding of the chosen aspect and the
ability to convey its significance to the reader. One must explore the altruistic motivations
behind service, the impact it has on individuals and communities, and the broader societal
implications. Balancing personal experiences, anecdotes, and statistical data can be a delicate
task, ensuring that the essay remains engaging while maintaining a scholarly tone.
Moreover, the challenge lies in avoiding clichГ©s and superficial generalizations. To stand out,
the essay must offer a unique perspective, whether it's through a personal narrative, a critical
analysis, or a combination of both. Service is a concept that is often praised but not always fully
understood. A successful essay should strive to shed light on the nuances and complexities
surrounding the idea of service.
Research plays a crucial role in overcoming these challenges. It requires delving into various
sources, ranging from academic journals to personal stories, to gather a comprehensive
understanding of the topic. The synthesis of information, coupled with critical thinking, is
essential to constructing a well-rounded and compelling argument.
Ultimately, the difficulty in writing an essay on service lies in the responsibility to do justice to a
concept that holds immense importance in society. It demands thoughtful reflection, careful
articulation, and a genuine passion for the subject matter.

During World War II, the Nazis propaganda machine was the primary tool to win
over the minds of millions of Germans who did not initially support Hitler and the
Nazis? anti Semitic agenda. Josef Goebbels was the man most responsible for the
Nazi?s racist indoctrination of the Germans, as the Minister of Public Enlightenment
and Propaganda. He led the national takeover of all forms of media and
entertainment that targeted and eventually penetrated the educational, recreational
and religious institutions of Germany. Goebbels? goal was to depict the Jewish
community as ?not German? and also as a group of people who had no loyalty to
Germany, and even establish them as less than human through the Nazi Eugenics
ideology. These myths were mostly perpetuated by films, rallies, books, newspapers,
and posters. These efforts continued systematically despite efforts by anti Nazi
groups like the European Union and the White Rose, groups who were composed of
anti fascist Germans who produced many anti Nazis propaganda leaflets during the
war. These groups despised Nazism and wrote newsletters leaflets debunking the
myths orchestrated by the Nazis propaganda machine, however their efforts were
largely unsuccessful, as millions of German citizens believed the Nazi rhetoric
regarding the Jews (ushmm.org). Much of the Nazi message was targeted towards
German youth by controlling

The smell of the salt water hangs in the air on a crisp autumn day in the year 1585,
as the sounds of waves crashing against the ships on the coast can be heard off in the
distant. Sir Walter Raleighs explorers Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe steps foot
on the sand of the beach of what is now common day Virginia, and breaths in the
air of what is the New World. Roanoke was an island off the coast of, what today is
called, Dare County, North Carolina. The island was established by Queen
Elizabeth 1 in 1585. On July 4th of 1584, Amadas and Barlowe stepped foot on the
grounds of what would be called Roanoke Island. ... Show more content on

During his time there, Grenville helped build relations with the people there, as
well, build a fort there. However, the other 4 ships would never arrive, and going
tired of waiting on them, Grenville decided to leave and sail onward. After sailing
onward, Grenville s ship reached the outer coast of the Carolina s. It was there that
he would met up with the other 4 ships, and together, would all explore this new
area. They built a village, and after some time, Grenville decided to return to
England for more food and supplies, but he left behind a few people to maintain the
village that were built. He promised to return shortly with more food and supplies,
however, after several years, with no sign of Grenville, the villagers were ready to
leave the New World. It was during this time that Sir Francis Drake stopped by the
village on his return trip from a successful raid in the Caribbean, he offered to take
the villagers back to England with him. All accepted and soon they all left for
England, with tobacco, maize, and potatoes that the villagers brought with them from
the Native Americans that they encountered there. However, Grenville would return,
but only to find that the colony was abandoned. After seeing this, Grenville decided
to return to England with most of his crew, only leaving behind a few people to
maintain the village and to keep an English presence on Sir Walter Raleigh s claim to

Analysis of The Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky
It seems to me, my dear friend, that the music of this ballet will be one of my best
creations. The subject is so poetic, so grateful for music, that 1 have worked on it
with enthusiasm and written it with the warmth and enthusiasm upon which the
worth of a composition always depends. Tchaikovsky, to Nadia von Meck.
The Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky is another ballet that is based on a fairy tale,
and was first presented to the Tsar of Russia.
It tells the story of Princess Aurora, King Florestan s daughter. The fairies have been
invited to Aurora s christening, and each one in turn dances and gives a magic
present. However, the wicked fairy, Carabosse, interrupts the ceremony and is furious
that she wasn t invited. She announces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The oboe then plays main melody. There is a rallentando and diminuendo with a flute
melody and pizzicato strings.
Pas d action
There is a minor brass introduction followed by ascending and descending major
scales played by the harp. The strings play a legato melody and there is a pedal
note in the woodwind. The music modulates back to minor and there is a
crescendo with a sequence and use of the timpani. There is a descending arpeggio
played by the brass section, and then the string melody is repeated with brass
repeated notes. The music has a #190; rhythm and an adagio tempo. There is a
quiet woodwind passage with a timpani roll and crescendo. The main melody is
then played by brass. It is then repeated with cymbal crashes, brass fanfares and a
timpani roll. There is a crescendo with discords and imperfect cadences. And the
piece ends with a perfect cadence and timpani roll.
Panorama
The harp and pizzicato bass strings accompany a legato string melody in major.
There is a crescendo and diminuendo, and then melody is repeated. The music is
quite fast and again has a #190; rhythm. There is a modulation to minor and the
strings play a sequence, which is repeated by brass. Major harp scales close the piece.
Waltz
The piece opens with a major ascending sequence by the orchestra with an imperfect
cadence. Bass instruments play the waltz rhythm for 2 bars then the strings come in
with the sequential legato melody.
Argumentative Essay On Immigration Law
Immigration is such a complicated topic. I really didn t realize everything that went
into it until I got to college and was able to vote myself. Although I have written
thousands of words on this topic, I still am unsure if I can for certain say that I
completely agree with one side of the argument or the other. What I do believe is the
fact that immigrationis a touchy issue, especially within the United States, and each
case should be looked at differently. My first source I talked about was an article I
found on the internet called, Top Ten Reasons for Enforcing America s
Immigration Laws . This article was written by Frosty Wooldridge and promoted
the idea of a more enacted immigration law in the United States. Wooldridge
promoted 10 different reasons why he so strongly believed that these immigration
laws should be strictly followed. Wooldridge believed that it s time to raise the
American standard of living. The real minimum wage in the United States has been
dropping for more than an entire decade. Some people believe that we need to raise
the minimum wage, but then this would lead to raising to price of illegal laborers
above our free market value. This would then result in a huge amount of mass
unemployment. This I agree with. American citizens are the ones suffering when it
comes to illegal workers getting paid under the table. Wooldridge also stated that we
as America, would be creating over ten million new jobs for United States citizens. I
agree with this
On Self Respect By Joan Didion
Writer Joan Didion in her essay On Self Respect describes the value of self respect
in regards to her own perspective of what it means. Didion s purpose for this
explanatory essay is to explain what self respect means and its purposes to the
intended audience, women. Women are the intended audience because when this
essay was written in the 1960 s, expectations of women were developing in a way
that was no longer related to their roles in society, but their actual character,
specifically physical characteristics and abilities. Didion chooses to write about self
respect toward women because of a personal anecdotementioned in the text, in which
she receives a sudden realization of what self respect truly means and decides to
share it with other struggling women in the 60 s. Didion uses the rhetorical devices
of personal anecdotes, allusions, and repetition in her essay often, which makes her
essay overall strong by punctuating many different meanings of self respect. These
rhetorical devices also give her audience an easier understandingof self respect by
providing multiple perspectives and situations of self respect, allowing the
audience to make personal connections with the text. In the beginning of Didion s
essay, she provides a personal anecdote that tells about her own experience of self
respect. She begins by stating how innocence ends when one is stripped of the
delusion that one likes oneself , stripped away from a fake self respect for oneself
(215). She then moves to the anecdote, which is a past experience of her not being
elected to Phi Beta Kappa , the oldest honor society in the United States (215). She
talks about how this specific failure could have been more predictable or less
ambiguous because she simply did not have the grades, but she was oblivious to
the outcome due to having a fake self respect by expecting herself to qualify for the
society at high expectations with abysmal grades. Didion uses this anecdote to
provide a basis of her credibility and understanding of the subject of self respect
through a personal experience. This anecdote reveals a meaning of what fake and
true self respect is in her personal life, allowing the audience a chance to relate to

Free Speech And Hate Speech
In elementary school, it would probably be the first time you would understand
what a debate is and how the roots of it is expressing different opinions between
others. This has been the way we functioned throughout our society to settle higher
figures, laws, and wars. Our college communities is the ideal place of free speech of
the young minds yet things have changed recently. There will always be some
restrictions to what can be said at a college campus, yet the first amendment is being
debated to be recommitted at campuses. Censorshipwill always be in effect to an
extent because of how it can progress into an hate speechor threats, yet it isn t bad
policy to let people of the newer generation with different perspectives speak their
own opinions. Free speech is the building block of our human rights which
corresponds with us improving and progressing Free speech has allowed us learn and
change based on the exchanging of ideas.
During the 1790 s, the amendments were added to the constitution. The very first
amendment s stated the basics liberties of all people such as freedom of religion,
press, and speech. The foundation of how we communicate and strive for
improvement is from the first amendments because of how we can express our ideas
to each other even if they may be different from each other. The national government
would not be able to abuse their power that the old constitution has stated. Since then,
free speech has been as important as ever to being able to
Speech On Vacation
Finally, we get to go on vacation! I exclaimed as we got up to leave. My parents
had already loaded up the car and we were ready to go. All morning while I was
getting ready was the sound of suitcases being dragged around and the beeping of
the car as the trunk opened and closed. Then I heard all of my other seven brothers
and sisters get into the car. We of course have a huge car, but even with that it s
still a little cramped. All of my brothers stunk up the car and it made the spilt milk
smell ten times worse. We had an hour drive to the airport and then another 5 hours
on a plane. My oldest brother, Andrew had already fallen asleep and my other 3
brothers were poking him and trying to annoy him but he was out cold. Because in
total there are ten of us it s super rare that we ever get to go on vacation. But my
dad just got a ton of extra vacation days so we finally decided to go on a vacation.
This vacation is going to be awesome, as long as no one gets lost, sick, hurt, or
complaints. Well maybe the complaining part won t happen, but hey, I can always
hope. A long, long hour later we arrive at the airport and park the car. This is the
dreaded part, trying to get everyone s things organized. My bag, of course, is a
decent size. Andrews seems a little small but then again, he wears the same outfit
every day and probably won t need much else. Then my older sister Chloe s bag
comes out. It s huge! It seriously looks like it was about to explode. But it s too big,

Rabbi Moshe Weinberger of YU s Stone Beit Medrish Program agrees that the balance
between traditional Judaic studies and spirituality is missing throughout a lot of the
Modern Orthodox community. The success of the most influential Modern Orthodox
Jewish youth organizations, NCSY and Bnei Akiva, are based upon characteristically
Chassidic traditions, such as singing, dancing, and storytelling. Of Course, the
Modern Orthodox movement stresses the importance of all singing, dancing, and
storytelling, but not to the extent of the Chassidic movement. And I believe that the
success of NCSY and Bnei Akiva are due to focus on the characteristically Chassidic
traditions. Further, the culmination of the Rebbe s movement has led to what Rabbi
Moshe Weinberger calls the neo chassidus movement. This movement is popular
among young Modern Jewish Orthodoxy that have grown up having difficulty
connecting with their spirituality. Neo Chassidus enables people to connect to God in
their own unique way. Rather than learning Talmud, they will learn navi: rather than

The Argument Of The Film About The Past
I will prove that that the argument of the film about the past can inform our
understanding of ourselves today in many different ways. As history can be very
influential to a nation, by the way we recall and decipher those history facts that

authentic flashbacks can, and regularly are, controlled for different political

Religion in Todays Society
Religion has affected the human in many ways; rules, traditions, culture patterns,
morality, etc. The most powerful and important role that religion plays is that how it
controls the human. I believe that religion has created conflicts between people
including whole countries. Religion has the societal effect of dividing people into us
and them . This unfortunately has the same characteristics as any other form of
discrimination, such a as racialism. Then, it would come very easy to consider us as
the righteous and them as unrighteous. Religioncan also be used as a tool of
suppression. It s easy to maintain order and nullify dissent by citing religious

Catholics, by basis of religion alone, were not allowed to vote, could not worship in

In the Virginia colony where Anglicanism ruled all citizens were required to attend
church and to be catechized by a minister. If someone refused to do so they could be
killed. Colonists were also required to financially support the church just as they

who was not of their faith unless they were attempting to convert people of differing

With the above history, it is quite easy to see where there would be a need for
separation of church and state. While the early colonists were in part coming here to
create a better life for themselves they unfortunately brought with them the ideals of
oppression and enacted them in their local townships. Religious oppression has eased

Americans, part of which can be seen through modern diversity educational practices

Charles Darwin once wrote I am not apt to follow blindly the lead of other men, a
bold statement that epitomized his experimental and revolutionary approach in
science during his lifetime. Darwin s controversial Theory of Evolution caused a
paradigm shift in the centrally fundamentalist society of his time. Inherit The Wind
by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee was loosely based on the historical Scopes

differences between their own set of values, intentions, and mindsets. Drummond and
Brady both yield adamant positions in the case. Drummond serves to defend Bertram

The Correlation between Stress, Overweight, and Exercise
The Correlation between Stress, Overweight and Exercise
Stress, exercise and obesity what do they have in common and what roll do they
play in the human body? Stress can cause obesity and exercise can elevate stress and
obesity. They Mayo Clinic says that stress can put a body at risk for many health
problems, including anxiety, depression, digestive problems, heart disease, sleep
problems, weight gain, memory and concentration impairment (Staff, 2013). In the
same article the Mayo Clinic says that one way to react to stressors in life is to get
regular exercise. When a person is under stress, typically a fight or flight situation, the
hypothalamus sets off an alarm in the brain, causing the adrenal gland to release the
hormones, adrenaline and cortisol. Adrenaline, increases the heart rate, raises blood
pressure and boosts energy, it is a fast acting hormone that starts to wear off once the
situation has resolved. Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, curbs the non fight or
flight body systems, increases glucose to the brain and alters immune, digestive and
growth systems. If a person is under constant stress from work, home, school,
relationships, finances, etc. cortisol is constantly being released into the body
causing the immune, digestive and reproductive systems to slow down. Cortisol also
slows the growth process and increases the glucose in the body. When the immune
system is slowed the body has a harder time fighting off germs and
The Egyptian Revolution Essay
Introduction The economy of any civilization is inherently dependent on a well
founded political system. A well founded political system, on the other hand,
largely impacts on the social well being of the people. In this regard, all these
factors, as Abdou Zaazou (2013) afford, are deeply interrelated in the sense that they
converge to provide a favorable environment for socio economic development. At the
start of the Egyptian revolution in 2011, the country was largely plagued by
inconsistency as it pertained to the equitable distribution of wealth, and the lack of
social justice (Mossallem, 2013). As a matter of fact, Wahba (2011) provides that it
was the tyrannical rule of former President Hosni Mubarakthat inadvertently led to
the resentment expressed by the general public at Tahrir Square. Many commentators
on the Egyptian revolution have always attested to the increasing police brutality of
civilians, uncontrolled high levels of corruption in government circles, the lack of
freedom of speech, and the lack of elections, as some of the intrinsic factors that
stimulated the occurrence of the 2011 revolution. While it is important to recognize
the role of the revolution in ousting authoritarianism in Egypt, it is also imperative that
we recognize the resulting implications, many of which have negatively impacted on
the economic state of Egypt, resulting in a raging economic crisis. The International
Bank for Reconstruction and Development (2013) provides that economic

Christians uphold the belief that theft is sinful, but those of corrupt beliefs aren t
included in those certain guidelines. This is why plagiarism is greatly debated on.
Plagiarism is mainly said to be classified by the failure to give credit (pg. 203). This
may be true if the act was unintentional, but that is not always the case. Plagiarism is
classified into four categories: Quotation, Paraphrase, Idea, and Translation. Quotation
Plagiarism is the most common and the most detected form. This type occurs when a
person forgets to include surrounding any content that is directly taken from another

as not crediting the original author. (Dictionary.com).

A Research Study On Nutrient Agar
The first patient, 18 year old female presented with symptoms of high fever,
vomiting, diarrhoea, myalgia, hypotension and signs of septic shock. In order to
identify possible bacteria responsible for these symptoms, a vaginal swab was
sampled, incubated on agar overnight and stored at 4C, after which they were
examined throughout a series of microbiological tests. The initial culturing of the
sample on nutrient agar indicated two organisms were present, and hence these
were analysed individually. A Gram stain was applied to each bacterium and they
were viewed individually under microscope at 1000x oil immersion magnification.
This specified both Gram negative diplobacilli, which will be referred to as
organism one, and Gram positive staphylococci, which will be referred to as
organism two. Organism one demonstrated irregular, flat, wavy, medium sized and
cream coloured colony morphology when viewed on agar plate, however limited
conclusive data can be obtained from these observations alone. In order to provide
further information for diagnosis, additional culturing was conducted on a range of
selective and differential media types including Horse Blood, MacConkey, Mannitol
Salt and Brilliant chromogenic UTI agar s. This demonstrated the organism was non
haemolytic, lactose fermenting, as evident through a red colony formation on the
MacConkey agar, and unable to survive in high salt concentrations, as indicated
through the lack of growth on Mannitol Salt agar. The
Analysis Of Jane Austen s The One Hand Mansfield Park
Jane Austen is an author who sticks to her own established tropes across many of her
novels. Time and time again one can encounter the same sorts of characters and
similar situations in her novel. But Mansfield Park and Emma are two novels that
tend to stand out against Austen s others and what makes them stand out is not so
much a departure from her pre established tropes, but a deeper insight into them. In
examining these two novels, one might think that the only similarity between them is
the way Austen turns her own tropes on their heads. On the one hand Mansfield Park
is possibly Austen s darkest novel, featuring a desperately oppressed heroine whom
readers have found hard to like. On the other hand Emmais a lively novel full of
hilariously ridiculous missteps and a heroine who wields all the power necessary to
cause those missteps. Yet they do have other things in common. For instance, both
examine themes of isolation and issues of a small community, and in both novels, day
trips and journeys serve to perpetuate that isolation, rather than relieve it.
Both Nina Auerbach and Marilyn Butler touch briefly on this theme in their
respective criticisms of Mansfield Park and Emma. Auerbach paints Fanny as a

Female Beauty in America Essay
Sophistication and Flair: The True Meaning of Beauty
Three words come to mind when one sees the epitome of Hollywood s A List
sophistication, style, and confidence. Although the media will always pose
celebrities as sex symbols, tasteful images have now become a norm for today s
society. A womans beauty is now being portrayed in other ways fully clothed and
self assured. It is evident now even as I look around campus. The girls who are
poised and classy do not prance around in belly shirts and mini skirts. It s all about a
look. A woman is no longer sexy because she dresses in next to nothing she is sexy
because she has character. Whether its mystery, humor, certainty, charm, or

It s all about how one acts. For instance, Britney Spears, once an icon for young girls,
has been recently depicted as offensive and distasteful in her clothing and manner.
It is now women such as those portrayed in the movie The Devil Wears Prada who
are admired by young teens. The characters in the movie played by Meryl Streep
and Anne Hatheway gave successful, working women an enticing edge when they
mixed their confident attitudes with classy style. They appeal to all genders and
ages because they are women who know what they want they don t need to be
naked to get it. They dress urbanely and conservatively. They radiate beauty
through their character not through their lack of attire. Although the trend is
slowing disappearing, many magazines such as Rolling Stone will always portray
women as sex symbols. We will probably never see the day when our society is
devoid of this exploitation it s an unrealistic hope. Take for example, the ever
popular Britney Spears. As I previously stated, she was once viewed as an icon for
young girls . That role is an extremely difficult one to live up to one that should be
valued and treated as an honor. The one time teen queen managed to portray herself
more than once in a distasteful manner on the cover of several magazines. What type
of message is she sending to young girls? How can we expect our society to produce
sophisticated young women with

The Aral Sea, which is situated in Central Asia between several countries, which

supported 75 percent of Central Asia s population, and contained roughly 90% of its

been linked to the degradation and shrinking of the Aral Sea following their
proliferation during the early 1940 s. Bridget Morris, who has written extensively
academically regarding the situation in the Aral Sea, stated that the Soviet
government attempted to make the entire region a large scale independent cotton
producer ultimately led to the Aral Sea to become a catastrophic experiment in
environmental responsibility (Morris 1990). This production of cotton, which is seen
as an economic product for many countries worldwide, would utilize a very harsh
form of irrigation, which drew large amounts of water from the Aral Sea. To achieve
their needs, they would utilize upstream irrigation arrangements for growing rice and
cotton however, this would require a consumption of 90% of the natural water from

Fate Motifs In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet

Juliet s tragic end, that they were doomed from the start, he establishes that

Psychoanalysis And Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Psychoanalysis Psychoanalysis is based on psychoanalytic theory postulated by the
renowned Viennese neurologist Sigmund Freud between the late nineteenth and early
twentieth centuries, and has been reactualizГЎndose. A little too summarizes our
psyche conceived as dynamic consists of a conscious and an unconscious part. This
theory postulates that, many times, which does not allow us to live peacefully past
traumas are hidden in the unconscious, and that we must make conscious to

patient to say everything you think omitting the smallest detail, however insignificant
or ridiculous it may seem, because everything has a meaning, even dreams. Thus a

Cognitive behavioral therapy From a cognitive behavioral perspective is known that
to solve a problem to have to change certain behaviors, are in a very broad sense,
considering each other s thoughts, feelings and emotions. Cognitive behavioral
therapy has two parts, one is the thinking about the problem. It is the responsibility of
the patient to fully contribute to defining the problem that is just what is concerned
and takes you to see. Once the vision that the patient has his problem under the
guidance of your therapist established a functional analysis of the problem,
enunciating in operational and modifiable terms is performed. Thus securing the
goals of therapy and treatment begins. This is the establishment of a program to
modify behaviors, thoughts and feelings relevant to the maintenance problem. This
type of therapy seems to know how to manage anxiety, as has solved problems such

The persecution rate of Jews increased in 1938 that involved humiliation, beatings,

limitations on places for Jews the next was Kristallnacht, the night of the broken

who shot Ernst Vom Rath. Rath was a German embassy official that was stationed
in Paris when a 17 year old short him. Days before the shooting Jews were stripped
of their polish citizenship living in Germany. Kristallnacht was then taken out of
retaliation against Jews. This occurred on November 9 10, 1938, and was planned
by the German government against Jews. The government organized mobs that
would torch Jewish stores. This did not only occur in Germany it happened in
Austria and some areas of the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia, occupied by German
troops. During those two days Jews were afraid of being attacked by Nazis. Nazis
would torch down synagogues, jewish homes, businesses, and schools. Some Jews
were so afraid they did not want to take the risk of leaving their homes and getting
attacked. Twenty six thousand men were arrested during Kristallnacht and sent to
Concentration camps. Such as Dachau, Buchenwald, and Sachsenhausen. In those
two days alone at least 91 Jews were killed. 7,500 shops were looted from and 191
synagogues were destroyed. Apart from stealing items from stores mobs would smash
the windows that would create disturbances to the neighbors. To torment the Jews
even more the damage committed during Kristallnacht had to be payed by Jews.

literature review to be completed. For example, chronologically, topically, or by
articles that agree and disagree with the topic. Layout of the literature review is up
to the author. Again, a decent start for literature review is underway. The articles
that are under review from previous course work will more than likely need to be

knowledge is developed with each article reviewed. Not to mention the articles that

knowledge gained by their evaluation. There are 15 more articles to be researched

Solemn Soot and Social Despair In the Transformative
World...
Solemn Soot and Social Despair
In the Transformative World of William Blake England was changing. The rolling
green shires and inspiring scenery that was fixed in the earliest memories of the
Romantic poets was quickly vanishing. There was a trade off happening. Rivets for
rocks, chimney stacks for trees, locomotives for carriages and steal tracks for
cobblestone. Piece by piece England s quaint agricultural backdrop was being
replaced by a stern industrial one. Progress! Some shouted. The greater good!
Others exclaimed. Expansion was becoming virtuous. In droves they came from the
country to work in London s factories. The machines ruled the fields now. Farmers
turned their plows in for hammers and the way peopled lived was never going to be
the same.
A new social class was developing in England. It was the working class. And
although a wider segment of the population was producing, creating steam for the
Empire, certain leading minds of the time had to examine the under belly of this fiery
beast. In William Blake s poems The Chimney Sweeper and London he does just
that. Through this examination Blake dwells on the theme of the loss of innocence.
He writes these two works in a straight forward tone, almost like a social awareness
pamphlet, urging the reader to wake up. And in typical Romantic fashion he does this
through stark imagery. What impression would a first time reader have after
digesting these pieces when first published? Depending on their class
Dual Perspective Analysis
1.Something I learned in this course is that I always seem to find myself in dual
perspective. I actually did not know there was even a word for this, because as the
textbook stated is appears to be innate in humans. However, I have encountered
others who think with a closed mind or egocentrically and I find it to be very
damaging to their interpersonal relationships, and a drag of someone to talk to.
When I engage in dual perspective I am learning from my point of view, but also
from someone else s point of view. They too are showing me how and why to
understand something in a different light.

When using generalizations in discussion with one another I do believe it gives us
both many opportunities and many limitations. One opportunity is that we can use
generalizations in conversation with the generalized other and with the particular
other. When communicating with the particular other I find myself questioning
generalizations much more often because I care and it is my job as a loved one to
make sure I am communicating effectively, and that is hard to do using
generalizations. However, at the same time we can have a subjective or unclear
conversation and still fill fulfilled from the conversation in some aspect because we
got to interact with one another. When communicating with the generalized other, we
can use generalizations just to start or keep the conversation going. Another benefit to
generalizations is that you can find almost anybody to talk to, given you know them
somewhat, and form a better relationship through conversation. This may be
stereotyping, but I feel as if that is how we identify who we may become interested in
or become friends with. However, generalizations do have their limitations. When we
generalize someone else s communication we are not getting the full story and that
can lead to misunderstandings in future conversations and even misunderstandings of
who they are. Moreover, our culture, race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic
class and so forth determine much of whom we are and what our thought process and
communication style is like. So when we are talking to someone of a different
background we may be using these instant generalizations, but shouldn t because this
is an opportunity to learn from and understand one another. Generalizations assume
that we all think and communicate the same way and that is very much false and the
less we generalize the more we learn about the world around

states Art is for admiring, mountains are for climbing, which mean please do not

An Investigation of Latino Participation in Politics Essay
An Investigation of Latino Participation in Politics
This research examines the disjuncture between Hispanic strength in population and
Hispanic participation in politics. I examine the nature of this disjuncture: its
severity, its causes, and its consequences. Hispanics currently comprise 11.2% of the
U.S. population, but the Hispanic vote in the 1998 elections comprised only 4.7% of
all ballots cast. The situation is even bleaker when considering Hispanic
representation in Congress. Currently, less than four percent of U.S. House members
are Latino. Add to that clear disjuncture the fact that two of the Hispanic
Congressmen do not even possess the ability to vote and that there is not a single
Hispanic Senator, and we see that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Verba and his co authors examine the import of participation, both voting and non
voting, in our American society. According to their argument, the typical citizen
activist tend[s] to be drawn disproportionately from more advantaged groups to be
well educated and well heeled and to be White and male (Verba et al., 1995: 231).
Indeed, Verba et al. explore participation along both gender and racial lines and
concludes that both women and minorities are comparatively less active than men,
especially white men, who stand peerless both in terms of affiliation with a political
organization, contributing to a campaign, contacting their Representatives, and more
direct forms of participation like voting.
Verba et al. also speak to the impact of income level on political participation, a topic
often repeated by political scientists (DeSipio 1996, McClain and Tauber 1998).
The conclusion: for each kind of participation, affluence and participation go hand
in hand seems rather obvious (Verba et al. 1995: 189). Indeed, if a Latino parent
works two low paying jobs and worries about paying the bills every month (as many
do) he or she will likely have little incentive to travel to the polling place to ensure
Hispanic representation in Washington. Additionally, Hispanicsencounter further
impediments to political participation: lower ages and education levels, coupled with
language difficulties and illegal and non citizen statuses further enlarge the gap

One Art by Elizabeth Bishop is a villanelle in which the narrator talks of losing things.
Her attitude of losing things in lines 16 19 is different from her attitude in lines 1 15.
As the poem continues, the narrator s losses change from material items to the truly
painful loss of a beloved person. Bishop uses verse form and language throughout the

author says (Write it!) (Line 19), she capitalizes the W, making it an imperative
command to herself, forcing herself to admit that losing you was a disaster. In
stanza 1, the author says The art of losing isn t hard to master (Line 1). That stanza
is refrained as the poem continues, but is changed slightly in the last stanza to: It s
evident/ the art of losing s not too hard to master... (Lines 17 18), which is a
significant confidence change from the beginning of the poem. In the beginning the
author says that losing things is no disaster because it is their intent to be lost. In the

Carbohydrate counting requires the person to count the carbohydrates in the foods

Music And Its Impact On Society
Throughout the history of mankind, music has existed in an irremovable capacity
in our existence. It has pervaded through every culture, every country and even
through the deepest reaches of the dark void of space. Music has also existed in
every religion known to the human race. But can music itself be considered a
religion in its own right? Music is celebrated and revered by almost all who listen
to it, and the health benefits associated with music are growing with every bit of
research performed. It would seem appropriate that music would enjoy the status
of a major religion, especially since very nearly every art form is bound to music
in one way or another, and considering that without music our society as a whole
would quite possibly cease to be in its entirety. To get a better idea behind the
religion of music and what qualifies it for religious status, a closer look must be
taken at three specific points. The music of the religious in terms of history, the
music of culture and country, and the music of our daily lives. One of the earlier
examples of music being tied deeply to a society and to their religion is in ancient
Greek mythologyas well as their society. Not only is music in ancient Greece
considered sacred, the very term music originated from the word Muse and the
Muses, who in Greek mythology were the daughters of Zeusand the goddesses that
represented the arts in all of their many forms, and even to the modern day many
writers and musicians can be heard

Abbott Labs
Risk Arbitrage: Abbott Labs Alza
1) How does risk arbitrage work? What are the risks and opportunities associated with
this strategy?
Risk arbitrage, or merger and acquisition arbitrage, is one of three types of arbitrage
strategies. Two types of mergers are possible: a cash merger and a stockmerger.
Cash Merger Opportunities
Acquirer proposes to purchase the shares of the target for a certain price in cash.
Until the acquisition is completed, the stock of the target usually trades below the
purchase price. An arbitrageur buys the stock of the target and makes a gain if the
acquirer ultimately buys the stock.
Stock for Stock Merger Opportunities
Acquirer proposes to buy the target by exchanging its own stock for the stock of ...

The number of Abbott shares shorted is then found by multiplying the number of
shares of Alza purchased by the Announced Exchange Ratio of 1.2 ABT:1.0 AZA,
which yields 312,000 shares of Abbott that are to be shorted.
Potential and Expected Returns
The bet s payoff is reflected in the spread between the market values of
consideration to be received in the deal (acquirer s stock, cash) minus the market
values of securities to be given up (target s stock).
Gross Spread (Per Share)= Value to be Received in the Transaction Stock Price of
Target = Value of Abbott Shares to be Received Price of Alza = (43.50 x 1.2) 48.00 =
$4.20
Gross Spread (Total)= (43.50 x 312,000 shares) (48.00 x 260,000 shares)
= 13,572,000 12,480,000
= $1,092,000
Net Spread= Gross Spread (total) В± All Other Cash Flows from Investment = Gross
Spread Margin Interest + Short Sale Rebate = 1,092,000 ((6.2% x 50% x 12,480,000
x (191/365)) + (5.6% x 13,572,000 x (191/365)) = 1,092,000 202,450 + 397,715 =
$1,287,265
Potential ROI= Net Spread / Total Capital Employed = 1,287,265 / ((50% x
13,572,000) + (50% x 12,480,000)) = 1,287,265 / 13,026,000 = 10.1%
Annualized Potential ROI = Potential ROI x (365 / Number of Days until
Completion) = 10.1% x (365/191) = 19.3%

Bureaucratic Standardization In Foxconn Factory
Lastly, bureaucratic standardization could not be neglected in the suicide tragedy in
Foxconn. This essay will analyze how the strict standardization influences Foxconn
factory. Pun and Chan (2012: 38) have found that a frontline worker in Foxconn
factory must finish 5 tasks in 10 seconds, so each task only takes 2 seconds to
complete in an assembly line. They (2012: 38) also explain that Foxconn factory uses
non human technology, like stopwatches and industrial electronic devices to monitor
frontline workers, in order to ensure the output target. Setting strict standardizationfor
production is a practice of just in time method, aiming to maximize productions and
keep workers under close surveillance. Furthermore, every employee in Foxconn
factory is designed and predicted in a standard way to perform their own duty. For
example, workers in assembly lines have been trained to follow fixed steps in
manufacturing process. Although leaders and managers in Foxconn factory believe
that strict standardization ensures bureaucratic efficiency, frontline workers feel
themselves as parts of the machines or even lower than the machines. (Pun and Chan,
2012: 38) This essay explains that the whole process in Foxconn factory runs like
machines, which does dehumanization to some extent and demotivates innovation
among employees. (Grey, 2013, p.87) To conclude, bureaucratic standardization
partly leads to the jumping event in Foxconn factory.

Goldilock s Requirements To Be A Habitable Zone
Habitable zones are regions around a star in which a planet can possess H2O (water)
on their surface. It is also one that can actually sustain life or water only in its liquid
form. This definition was based on the hypothesis that life may be existing on other
planets around the universe other than the Earth. Requirements to be a Habitable Zone
is the star around the planetor region must survive long enough for the planet to
develop life and that the other planets in that region have the proper distance from its
star so that the planet could have water remain as a liquid. For example, the Earth!
Our Earth so far is probably the only planet we know 100% that is a habitable planet.
What makes Earth habitable is its precise distance from out ... Show more content on

There are 3 planets Mars, Venus, and Mercury that are closest to being Earth like
and are called Terrestrial planets. Mars today is not a habitable planet for humans
to make a living on but is told by scientist and astronomers that on a day in the
future it may be. The future for Mars would be dependent heavily on local Red
Planet Resources, such near surface water and glaciers. Evidence starting in the
21st Century have evidence building that liquid water may be flowing through
seasonally at some of the Martian sites, which could prove life up there as all
others predicted. So until further more test is done yearly; Mars, for now, is not
yet habitable but may become one soon yet to be known. Switching to Venus, the
planet that is most Earth like. Astronomers believe that Venus may have been a
habitable planet once is the past (about 2 billion in our Solar Systems history). This
prediction came from the founding of Venus having a crushed Carbon Dioxide
atmosphere that is 90 times thicker than our Earth s, and there is also no water
vapor. But there has been a discovery that Venus had a shallow liquid state water
ocean. Recent studies have shown that the speed of a planet s orbit can determine if
a planet is habitable. Venus, in this case, was to have a slow orbit rate since it had the
thickest atmosphere. Astronomers in the past have recorded that Venus had more
dryland in the past than Earth does
To Kill A Fetus Pruss Analysis
Rita Shamahsta
Chris Corte

Response Essay I Was Once a Fetus: That Is Why Abortion Is Wrong
First, Pruss asserts that abortion is wrong because killing a fetus is human. According
to his article, the fetus isn t different from anybody. I agree with Pruss about abortion
is wrong because the fetus has right to live. Moreover, a human fetus is simply of a
human being at an earlier stage in development than I and you are nothing suggests
that it is anything other than a human. A human fetuses are human, before and after
birth. So because it is human, killing it is just as wrong as killing a fully developed,
adult human being. Pruss is an associate professor of philosophy at Baylor
University, states that, each individual person develops from a fetus (70). That s
absolutely correct. And, of course, it equally applies to all human life.
In addition to his thought that killing a fetus is wrong and a crime, Pruss confirms
that killing a fetus is a crime with a victim. I cannot refuse life until the age of 3
months. I m surprised how some people cannot understand that life starts before the

He gives some evidence such as the fetus didn t endanger his Mather s life, but we
all know that the fetus, it could be endangering the mother s life for the same reason.
For example, if the mother s pregnancy is ectopic, so in this cause the fetus will
endanger the mother s life. Lauren is a legislative Associate for Texas right to life
and a graduate of Ave Maria University improved that in life threatening ectopic

choice we have to save the mother s life or we will lose both of them. Another
reason is if the mother had been Sexual assault, in this cause the mother s has right to
abortion because the baby will remind the mother about what happen with her in the

Essay on The Need for More Comprehensive Training of...
In his article Lack of Skills Leads to Violence , James J. Fyfe states that with
training...more comparable to that provided social workers, schoolteachers,
psychologists and lawyers , police would become more adept at preventing violence.
I believe this to be true, yet I think that many policedepartments confuse quantity
with quality, and divert funding to the wrong places in an effort to better themselves.
Training needs to be at the forefront of any reform. A police force that is educated
and experienced, with knowledge of the community will be much more successful at
preventing violence.
Most would agree that departments need more funding. However, there are
discrepancies regarding where to place these funds. Police ... Show more content on

Lawyers and psychologists require even more schooling, a minimum of around
eight years. Police officers end up being all of these things, and more. To obtain the
real goal of law, and prevent crime, officers must have the trust and respect of the
community they serve. Instead, policing has been defined as uneducated people s
work (Fyfe, 262). Many citizens feel that the people protecting them are not as smart
as they are. This leads to disrespect, and a sense of superiority within the community.
With disrespect comes uncooperation, something any department would be worlds
better without. If officers were required to obtain more basic schooling, and focus on
social issues and psychology more during training, they would be better equipped to
take up the position of law enforcement in any community. Besides the obvious
benefit of being more adept at dealing with citizens, there would be added bonuses in
police departments requiring more strenuous schooling. With four years of general
education, officers would inherently become acquainted with a wide range of topics
that they might not otherwise be exposed to with the minimal curriculum now
required. Foreign language, art, and psychology classes would be especially useful in
exposing up and comers to the varied environments they might encounter in their
careers. Most importantly, people in the community would have a new respect for the
Media Violence and Its Effect on Children Essay
There is a strong agreement among American society that violence in the country is
on the rise. It is easy to see why this is a strong argument among the American
people, especially because of the rising popularity of violent video games and
television programs. However, as these violent video games and television shows are
creating their own place in our society, the reports of violenceamong children are
escalating. This correlation has been studied extensively in the scientific community
in an attempt to discover whether media violence does negatively impact children
but there has yet to be a consensus. There is a split between those that believe that
children are becoming more violent because they are exposed to violent media and...

Later, each child was left alone with the doll. The children that watched the
aggressive interaction acted aggressively toward the doll while the children that
observed the normal interactions with doll did not act aggressively. With these
results, Bandura argued that children imitated behavior they witness, and that if they
observed violent behavior in the media, they were likely to copy this behavior and
act violently themselves (Bandura 575).
Many experiments followed Bandura s footsteps, attempting to prove that there was a
link between media violence and violence among the youth. These studies are still
being conducted today, as there has yet to be a scientific consensus on the issue.
However, despite there being evidence toward the contrary, many organizations have
stated their position on the issue: they are against media violence because it causes
violent behavior in children. One such organization is the National Association for
the Education of Young Children ( Media Violence in Children s Lives ). Influential
organizations such as the NAEYC do not educate the public on all of the findings of
studies intended to discover the relationship between media violence and violence
among children. AS a result, the public continues to believe its original hypothesis
that media violence is the root cause of increasing violent actions among the youth.

Physical activity is vital for the healthy growth and...
Physical activity is vital for the healthy growth and development of toddler and
infants. For toddlers, play is an essential part of learning. It s how they develop
physical skills, confidence and life skills for the future. There are many available
options for infants to go and play and develop those skills, like GymbaROO or Kids
Aquatic Survival School (KASS) that provide lots of opportunities and benefits for
the kids.
The GymbaROO provides many benefits for young infants as they offer a range of
physical activites and appropriate exercises that enable toddlers aged 0 5 to explore,

When a child I young and between the ages of 0 5, they are very shy and reliant of
their parents, so not allowing them in the water to hold their hand, help them or
encourage them is consequently letting the infant not reach it s full potential.
Physical activity can also be identified in dancing, which is what OZ TOTS tries to
embody whilst still making it fun and enjoyable for the toddlers. OZ TOTS embraces
all the elements of music movement whilst incorporating preschool skills, it is a fun
and playful environment that integrates specially tailored classes in different dance
styles coached by older students. The program not only encourages your child to
develop their coordination through music and dance. It also makes significant
contributions to, developing creativity, building social skills and enhancing their
physical development. On the other hand, there are many faults to the physical
activity that OZ TOTS provides including the fact that the staff members are older
students, not specially trained professionals who can deal with very young children.
Older students cant provide the learning capability and techniques needed to teach the
young students, control them behavior wise as well as provide them with a healthy
and active activity.
To conclude, I believe that there are many sufficient options provided for this age
group that will help the toddlers

  • 1. Essay On Service Writing an essay on the topic of service can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies in navigating the vast landscape of perspectives and dimensions that the concept of service encompasses. Service is not a monolithic entity; it spans across various sectors, from community service to military service, and includes personal acts of kindness. Crafting an effective essay on service requires a deep understanding of the chosen aspect and the ability to convey its significance to the reader. One must explore the altruistic motivations behind service, the impact it has on individuals and communities, and the broader societal implications. Balancing personal experiences, anecdotes, and statistical data can be a delicate task, ensuring that the essay remains engaging while maintaining a scholarly tone. Moreover, the challenge lies in avoiding clichГ©s and superficial generalizations. To stand out, the essay must offer a unique perspective, whether it's through a personal narrative, a critical analysis, or a combination of both. Service is a concept that is often praised but not always fully understood. A successful essay should strive to shed light on the nuances and complexities surrounding the idea of service. Research plays a crucial role in overcoming these challenges. It requires delving into various sources, ranging from academic journals to personal stories, to gather a comprehensive understanding of the topic. The synthesis of information, coupled with critical thinking, is essential to constructing a well-rounded and compelling argument. Ultimately, the difficulty in writing an essay on service lies in the responsibility to do justice to a concept that holds immense importance in society. • 3. Visual Propaganda For Armed Conflict Comment Edward Helbling Visual Propaganda for Armed ConflictComment by Grammarly: Deleted:a Professor McCrery 3/30/16 During World War II, the Nazis propaganda machine was the primary tool to win over the minds of millions of Germans who did not initially support Hitler and the Nazis? anti Semitic agenda. Josef Goebbels was the man most responsible for the Nazi?s racist indoctrination of the Germans, as the Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. He led the national takeover of all forms of media and entertainment that targeted and eventually penetrated the educational, recreational and religious institutions of Germany. Goebbels? goal was to depict the Jewish community as ?not German? and also as a group of people who had no loyalty to Germany, and even establish them as less than human through the Nazi Eugenics ideology. These myths were mostly perpetuated by films, rallies, books, newspapers, and posters. These efforts continued systematically despite efforts by anti Nazi groups like the European Union and the White Rose, groups who were composed of anti fascist Germans who produced many anti Nazis propaganda leaflets during the war. These groups despised Nazism and wrote newsletters leaflets debunking the myths orchestrated by the Nazis propaganda machine, however their efforts were largely unsuccessful, as millions of German citizens believed the Nazi rhetoric regarding the Jews (ushmm.org). Much of the Nazi message was targeted towards German youth by controlling
  • 4. The Lost Colony The Lost Colony Darian Taylor History 101 Roanoke Darian Taylor December 2, 2014 The smell of the salt water hangs in the air on a crisp autumn day in the year 1585, as the sounds of waves crashing against the ships on the coast can be heard off in the distant. Sir Walter Raleighs explorers Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe steps foot on the sand of the beach of what is now common day Virginia, and breaths in the air of what is the New World. Roanoke was an island off the coast of, what today is called, Dare County, North Carolina. The island was established by Queen Elizabeth 1 in 1585. On July 4th of 1584, Amadas and Barlowe stepped foot on the grounds of what would be called Roanoke Island. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During his time there, Grenville helped build relations with the people there, as well, build a fort there. However, the other 4 ships would never arrive, and going tired of waiting on them, Grenville decided to leave and sail onward. After sailing onward, Grenville s ship reached the outer coast of the Carolina s. It was there that he would met up with the other 4 ships, and together, would all explore this new area. They built a village, and after some time, Grenville decided to return to England for more food and supplies, but he left behind a few people to maintain the village that were built. He promised to return shortly with more food and supplies, however, after several years, with no sign of Grenville, the villagers were ready to leave the New World. It was during this time that Sir Francis Drake stopped by the village on his return trip from a successful raid in the Caribbean, he offered to take the villagers back to England with him. All accepted and soon they all left for England, with tobacco, maize, and potatoes that the villagers brought with them from the Native Americans that they encountered there. However, Grenville would return, but only to find that the colony was abandoned. After seeing this, Grenville decided to return to England with most of his crew, only leaving behind a few people to maintain the village and to keep an English presence on Sir Walter Raleigh s claim to Roanoke
  • 5. Analysis of The Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky It seems to me, my dear friend, that the music of this ballet will be one of my best creations. The subject is so poetic, so grateful for music, that 1 have worked on it with enthusiasm and written it with the warmth and enthusiasm upon which the worth of a composition always depends. Tchaikovsky, to Nadia von Meck. The Sleeping Beauty by Tchaikovsky is another ballet that is based on a fairy tale, and was first presented to the Tsar of Russia. • 6. Argumentative Essay On Immigration Law Immigration is such a complicated topic. I really didn t realize everything that went into it until I got to college and was able to vote myself. Although I have written thousands of words on this topic, I still am unsure if I can for certain say that I completely agree with one side of the argument or the other. What I do believe is the fact that immigrationis a touchy issue, especially within the United States, and each case should be looked at differently. My first source I talked about was an article I found on the internet called, Top Ten Reasons for Enforcing America s Immigration Laws . This article was written by Frosty Wooldridge and promoted the idea of a more enacted immigration law in the United States. Wooldridge promoted 10 different reasons why he so strongly believed that these immigration laws should be strictly followed. Wooldridge believed that it s time to raise the American standard of living. The real minimum wage in the United States has been dropping for more than an entire decade. Some people believe that we need to raise the minimum wage, but then this would lead to raising to price of illegal laborers above our free market value. This would then result in a huge amount of mass unemployment. This I agree with. American citizens are the ones suffering when it comes to illegal workers getting paid under the table. Wooldridge also stated that we as America, would be creating over ten million new jobs for United States citizens. I agree with this
  • 7. On Self Respect By Joan Didion Writer Joan Didion in her essay On Self Respect describes the value of self respect in regards to her own perspective of what it means. Didion s purpose for this explanatory essay is to explain what self respect means and its purposes to the intended audience, women. Women are the intended audience because when this essay was written in the 1960 s, expectations of women were developing in a way that was no longer related to their roles in society, but their actual character, specifically physical characteristics and abilities. Didion chooses to write about self respect toward women because of a personal anecdotementioned in the text, in which she receives a sudden realization of what self respect truly means and decides to share it with other struggling women in the 60 s. Didion uses the rhetorical devices of personal anecdotes, allusions, and repetition in her essay often, which makes her essay overall strong by punctuating many different meanings of self respect. These rhetorical devices also give her audience an easier understandingof self respect by providing multiple perspectives and situations of self respect, allowing the audience to make personal connections with the text. In the beginning of Didion s essay, she provides a personal anecdote that tells about her own experience of self respect. She begins by stating how innocence ends when one is stripped of the delusion that one likes oneself , stripped away from a fake self respect for oneself (215). She then moves to the anecdote, which is a past experience of her not being elected to Phi Beta Kappa , the oldest honor society in the United States (215). She talks about how this specific failure could have been more predictable or less ambiguous because she simply did not have the grades, but she was oblivious to the outcome due to having a fake self respect by expecting herself to qualify for the society at high expectations with abysmal grades. Didion uses this anecdote to provide a basis of her credibility and understanding of the subject of self respect through a personal experience. This anecdote reveals a meaning of what fake and true self respect is in her personal life, allowing the audience a chance to relate to Didion s
  • 8. Free Speech And Hate Speech In elementary school, it would probably be the first time you would understand what a debate is and how the roots of it is expressing different opinions between others. This has been the way we functioned throughout our society to settle higher figures, laws, and wars. Our college communities is the ideal place of free speech of the young minds yet things have changed recently. There will always be some restrictions to what can be said at a college campus, yet the first amendment is being debated to be recommitted at campuses. Censorshipwill always be in effect to an extent because of how it can progress into an hate speechor threats, yet it isn t bad policy to let people of the newer generation with different perspectives speak their own opinions. Free speech is the building block of our human rights which corresponds with us improving and progressing Free speech has allowed us learn and change based on the exchanging of ideas. During the 1790 s, the amendments were added to the constitution. The very first amendment s stated the basics liberties of all people such as freedom of religion, press, and speech. The foundation of how we communicate and strive for improvement is from the first amendments because of how we can express our ideas to each other even if they may be different from each other. The national government would not be able to abuse their power that the old constitution has stated. Since then, free speech has been as important as ever to being able to
  • 9. Speech On Vacation Finally, we get to go on vacation! I exclaimed as we got up to leave. My parents had already loaded up the car and we were ready to go. All morning while I was getting ready was the sound of suitcases being dragged around and the beeping of the car as the trunk opened and closed. Then I heard all of my other seven brothers and sisters get into the car. We of course have a huge car, but even with that it s still a little cramped. All of my brothers stunk up the car and it made the spilt milk smell ten times worse. We had an hour drive to the airport and then another 5 hours on a plane. My oldest brother, Andrew had already fallen asleep and my other 3 brothers were poking him and trying to annoy him but he was out cold. Because in total there are ten of us it s super rare that we ever get to go on vacation. But my dad just got a ton of extra vacation days so we finally decided to go on a vacation. This vacation is going to be awesome, as long as no one gets lost, sick, hurt, or complaints. Well maybe the complaining part won t happen, but hey, I can always hope. A long, long hour later we arrive at the airport and park the car. This is the dreaded part, trying to get everyone s things organized. My bag, of course, is a decent size. Andrews seems a little small but then again, he wears the same outfit every day and probably won t need much else. Then my older sister Chloe s bag comes out. It s huge! It seriously looks like it was about to explode. But it s too big,

The Lubavitcher Rebbi, Rebbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, is the seventh leader of the Chabad Lubavitch movement, and is considered one of the most influential Jewish personalities in modern times. Rabbi Moshe Weinberger of YU s Stone Beit Medrish Program agrees that the balance between traditional Judaic studies and spirituality is missing throughout a lot of the Modern Orthodox community. The success of the most influential Modern Orthodox Jewish youth organizations, NCSY and Bnei Akiva, are based upon characteristically Chassidic traditions, such as singing, dancing, and storytelling. Of Course, the Modern Orthodox movement stresses the importance of all singing, dancing, and storytelling, but not to the extent of the Chassidic movement. And I believe that the success of NCSY and Bnei Akiva are due to focus on the characteristically Chassidic traditions. Further, the culmination of the Rebbe s movement has led to what Rabbi Moshe Weinberger calls the neo chassidus movement. This movement is popular among young Modern Jewish Orthodoxy that have grown up having difficulty connecting with their spirituality. Neo Chassidus enables people to connect to God in their own unique way. Rather than learning Talmud, they will learn navi: rather than have an only Hebrew siddur, they will have opt for Hebrew and
  • 11. The Argument Of The Film About The Past I will prove that that the argument of the film about the past can inform our understanding of ourselves today in many different ways. As history can be very influential to a nation, by the way we recall and decipher those history facts that give us a feeling of place and self as a nation. However we should recall how those authentic flashbacks can, and regularly are, controlled for different political influences; because one event historycan have a change in the country forever. Due to these events we know we cannot trust the government because stuff like this can still be happening under the table and we wouldn t know, therefore that would me the conspiracy is still kept going to a certain extend. Especially with JFK and Martian Luther
  • 12. Religion in Todays Society Religion has affected the human in many ways; rules, traditions, culture patterns, morality, etc. The most powerful and important role that religion plays is that how it controls the human. I believe that religion has created conflicts between people including whole countries. Religion has the societal effect of dividing people into us and them . This unfortunately has the same characteristics as any other form of discrimination, such a as racialism. Then, it would come very easy to consider us as the righteous and them as unrighteous. Religioncan also be used as a tool of suppression. It s easy to maintain order and nullify dissent by citing religious grounds. An example of how society is influenced and impacted by religious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Catholics, by basis of religion alone, were not allowed to vote, could not worship in public, and were not allowed to hold public office. In the Virginia colony where Anglicanism ruled all citizens were required to attend church and to be catechized by a minister. If someone refused to do so they could be killed. Colonists were also required to financially support the church just as they would a governmental institution. They were not allowed to associate with anyone who was not of their faith unless they were attempting to convert people of differing faiths. With the above history, it is quite easy to see where there would be a need for separation of church and state. While the early colonists were in part coming here to create a better life for themselves they unfortunately brought with them the ideals of oppression and enacted them in their local townships. Religious oppression has eased up in today s modern American culture when compared with that of the early Americans, part of which can be seen through modern diversity educational practices as in Teaching Religion in Schools: Religious Rites and Ritual from Across the Globe. At the onset of the eighteenth century more immigrants came in and so did differing religious views. Charles Darwin once wrote I am not apt to follow blindly the lead of other men, a bold statement that epitomized his experimental and revolutionary approach in science during his lifetime. • 17. The Correlation between Stress, Overweight, and Exercise The Correlation between Stress, Overweight and Exercise Stress, exercise and obesity what do they have in common and what roll do they play in the human body? Stress can cause obesity and exercise can elevate stress and obesity. They Mayo Clinic says that stress can put a body at risk for many health problems, including anxiety, depression, digestive problems, heart disease, sleep problems, weight gain, memory and concentration impairment (Staff, 2013). In the same article the Mayo Clinic says that one way to react to stressors in life is to get regular exercise. When a person is under stress, typically a fight or flight situation, the hypothalamus sets off an alarm in the brain, causing the adrenal gland to release the hormones, adrenaline and cortisol. Adrenaline, increases the heart rate, raises blood pressure and boosts energy, it is a fast acting hormone that starts to wear off once the situation has resolved. Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, curbs the non fight or flight body systems, increases glucose to the brain and alters immune, digestive and growth systems. If a person is under constant stress from work, home, school, relationships, finances, etc. cortisol is constantly being released into the body causing the immune, digestive and reproductive systems to slow down. Cortisol also slows the growth process and increases the glucose in the body. When the immune system is slowed the body has a harder time fighting off germs and
  • 18. The Egyptian Revolution Essay Introduction The economy of any civilization is inherently dependent on a well founded political system. A well founded political system, on the other hand, largely impacts on the social well being of the people. In this regard, all these factors, as Abdou Zaazou (2013) afford, are deeply interrelated in the sense that they converge to provide a favorable environment for socio economic development. At the start of the Egyptian revolution in 2011, the country was largely plagued by inconsistency as it pertained to the equitable distribution of wealth, and the lack of social justice (Mossallem, 2013). As a matter of fact, Wahba (2011) provides that it was the tyrannical rule of former President Hosni Mubarakthat inadvertently led to the resentment expressed by the general public at Tahrir Square. Many commentators on the Egyptian revolution have always attested to the increasing police brutality of civilians, uncontrolled high levels of corruption in government circles, the lack of freedom of speech, and the lack of elections, as some of the intrinsic factors that stimulated the occurrence of the 2011 revolution. While it is important to recognize the role of the revolution in ousting authoritarianism in Egypt, it is also imperative that we recognize the resulting implications, many of which have negatively impacted on the economic state of Egypt, resulting in a raging economic crisis. The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (2013) provides that economic

In order to identify possible bacteria responsible for these symptoms, a vaginal swab was sampled, incubated on agar overnight and stored at 4C, after which they were examined throughout a series of microbiological tests. The initial culturing of the sample on nutrient agar indicated two organisms were present, and hence these were analysed individually. A Gram stain was applied to each bacterium and they were viewed individually under microscope at 1000x oil immersion magnification. This specified both Gram negative diplobacilli, which will be referred to as organism one, and Gram positive staphylococci, which will be referred to as organism two. Organism one demonstrated irregular, flat, wavy, medium sized and cream coloured colony morphology when viewed on agar plate, however limited conclusive data can be obtained from these observations alone. In order to provide further information for diagnosis, additional culturing was conducted on a range of selective and differential media types including Horse Blood, MacConkey, Mannitol Salt and Brilliant chromogenic UTI agar s. This demonstrated the organism was non haemolytic, lactose fermenting, as evident through a red colony formation on the MacConkey agar, and unable to survive in high salt concentrations, as indicated through the lack of growth on Mannitol Salt agar. Time and time again one can encounter the same sorts of characters and similar situations in her novel. But Mansfield Park and Emma are two novels that tend to stand out against Austen s others and what makes them stand out is not so much a departure from her pre established tropes, but a deeper insight into them. In examining these two novels, one might think that the only similarity between them is the way Austen turns her own tropes on their heads. On the one hand Mansfield Park is possibly Austen s darkest novel, featuring a desperately oppressed heroine whom readers have found hard to like. On the other hand Emmais a lively novel full of hilariously ridiculous missteps and a heroine who wields all the power necessary to cause those missteps. Yet they do have other things in common. For instance, both examine themes of isolation and issues of a small community, and in both novels, day trips and journeys serve to perpetuate that isolation, rather than relieve it. Both Nina Auerbach and Marilyn Butler touch briefly on this theme in their respective criticisms of Mansfield Park and Emma. Auerbach paints Fanny as a monster comparable to Frankenstein s creature and other classic English monsters such as the vampire and even Beowulf s Grendel. She states that like Frankenstein and his monster... Fanny is a killjoy (448), and argues that Fanny draws sustenance from her role as

The rolling green shires and inspiring scenery that was fixed in the earliest memories of the Romantic poets was quickly vanishing. There was a trade off happening. Rivets for rocks, chimney stacks for trees, locomotives for carriages and steal tracks for cobblestone. Piece by piece England s quaint agricultural backdrop was being replaced by a stern industrial one. Progress! Some shouted. The greater good! Others exclaimed. Expansion was becoming virtuous. In droves they came from the country to work in London s factories. The machines ruled the fields now. Farmers turned their plows in for hammers and the way peopled lived was never going to be the same. A new social class was developing in England. It was the working class. And although a wider segment of the population was producing, creating steam for the Empire, certain leading minds of the time had to examine the under belly of this fiery beast. In William Blake s poems The Chimney Sweeper and London he does just that. Through this examination Blake dwells on the theme of the loss of innocence. He writes these two works in a straight forward tone, almost like a social awareness pamphlet, urging the reader to wake up. And in typical Romantic fashion he does this through stark imagery. What impression would a first time reader have after digesting these pieces when first published? Depending on their class

One opportunity is that we can use generalizations in conversation with the generalized other and with the particular other. When communicating with the particular other I find myself questioning generalizations much more often because I care and it is my job as a loved one to make sure I am communicating effectively, and that is hard to do using generalizations. However, at the same time we can have a subjective or unclear conversation and still fill fulfilled from the conversation in some aspect because we got to interact with one another. When communicating with the generalized other, we can use generalizations just to start or keep the conversation going. Another benefit to generalizations is that you can find almost anybody to talk to, given you know them somewhat, and form a better relationship through conversation. This may be stereotyping, but I feel as if that is how we identify who we may become interested in or become friends with. However, generalizations do have their limitations. When we generalize someone else s communication we are not getting the full story and that can lead to misunderstandings in future conversations and even misunderstandings of who they are. Moreover, our culture, race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class and so forth determine much of whom we are and what our thought process and communication style is like. So when we are talking to someone of a different background we may be using these instant generalizations, but shouldn t because this is an opportunity to learn from and understand one another. Indeed, Verba et al. explore participation along both gender and racial lines and concludes that both women and minorities are comparatively less active than men, especially white men, who stand peerless both in terms of affiliation with a political organization, contributing to a campaign, contacting their Representatives, and more direct forms of participation like voting. Verba et al. also speak to the impact of income level on political participation, a topic often repeated by political scientists (DeSipio 1996, McClain and Tauber 1998). The conclusion: for each kind of participation, affluence and participation go hand in hand seems rather obvious (Verba et al. 1995: 189). Indeed, if a Latino parent works two low paying jobs and worries about paying the bills every month (as many do) he or she will likely have little incentive to travel to the polling place to ensure Hispanic representation in Washington. Additionally, Hispanicsencounter further impediments to political participation: lower ages and education levels, coupled with language difficulties and illegal and non citizen statuses further enlarge the gap between
  • 36. One Art By Elizabeth Bishop One Art by Elizabeth Bishop is a villanelle in which the narrator talks of losing things. Her attitude of losing things in lines 16 19 is different from her attitude in lines 1 15. As the poem continues, the narrator s losses change from material items to the truly painful loss of a beloved person. Bishop uses verse form and language throughout the poem which contribute to the reader s understanding of the narrator s different attitudes throughout the poem. In lines 1 15, the author writes in tercets. The combination of writing in tercets, and having an a b a rhyme pattern creates a steady rhythm to the poem. It s evident/ the art of losing s not too hard to master/ though it may look like (Write it!) a disaster (Lines 16 19). The use of parentheses in the last line makes the last stanza more personal. The author switches from addressing the reader (lines 1 15), to her love (lines 16 17), then to herself in line 19. When the author says (Write it!) (Line 19), she capitalizes the W, making it an imperative command to herself, forcing herself to admit that losing you was a disaster. In stanza 1, the author says The art of losing isn t hard to master (Line 1). That stanza is refrained as the poem continues, but is changed slightly in the last stanza to: It s evident/ the art of losing s not too hard to master... (Lines 17 18), which is a significant confidence change from the beginning of the poem. In the beginning the author says that losing things is no disaster because it is their intent to be lost. In the last stanza the author s attitude changes, saying that it was easy to master the art of losing, even though it looks like a

Carbohydrate counting requires the person to count the carbohydrates in the foods they eat and to set a limit to how much he/she can eat in a day to keep their blood glucose in range. This helps control blood glucose levels because carbohydrates increase glucose levels more than any other food. 7. Which of the symptoms that Y.L. reported today led you to believe she
  • 38. Music And Its Impact On Society Throughout the history of mankind, music has existed in an irremovable capacity in our existence. It has pervaded through every culture, every country and even through the deepest reaches of the dark void of space. Music has also existed in every religion known to the human race. But can music itself be considered a religion in its own right? Music is celebrated and revered by almost all who listen to it, and the health benefits associated with music are growing with every bit of research performed. It would seem appropriate that music would enjoy the status of a major religion, especially since very nearly every art form is bound to music in one way or another, and considering that without music our society as a whole would quite possibly cease to be in its entirety. To get a better idea behind the religion of music and what qualifies it for religious status, a closer look must be taken at three specific points. The music of the religious in terms of history, the music of culture and country, and the music of our daily lives. One of the earlier examples of music being tied deeply to a society and to their religion is in ancient Greek mythologyas well as their society. Not only is music in ancient Greece considered sacred, the very term music originated from the word Muse and the Muses, who in Greek mythology were the daughters of Zeusand the goddesses that represented the arts in all of their many forms, and even to the modern day many writers and musicians can be heard

  • 41. Bureaucratic Standardization In Foxconn Factory Lastly, bureaucratic standardization could not be neglected in the suicide tragedy in Foxconn. This essay will analyze how the strict standardization influences Foxconn factory. Pun and Chan (2012: 38) have found that a frontline worker in Foxconn factory must finish 5 tasks in 10 seconds, so each task only takes 2 seconds to complete in an assembly line. They (2012: 38) also explain that Foxconn factory uses non human technology, like stopwatches and industrial electronic devices to monitor frontline workers, in order to ensure the output target. Setting strict standardizationfor production is a practice of just in time method, aiming to maximize productions and keep workers under close surveillance. Furthermore, every employee in Foxconn factory is designed and predicted in a standard way to perform their own duty. For example, workers in assembly lines have been trained to follow fixed steps in manufacturing process. Although leaders and managers in Foxconn factory believe that strict standardization ensures bureaucratic efficiency, frontline workers feel themselves as parts of the machines or even lower than the machines. (Pun and Chan, 2012: 38) This essay explains that the whole process in Foxconn factory runs like machines, which does dehumanization to some extent and demotivates innovation among employees. (Grey, 2013, p.87) To conclude, bureaucratic standardization partly leads to the jumping event in Foxconn factory. In summary, scientific management, hierarchy
  • 42. Goldilock s Requirements To Be A Habitable Zone Habitable zones are regions around a star in which a planet can possess H2O (water) on their surface. It is also one that can actually sustain life or water only in its liquid form. This definition was based on the hypothesis that life may be existing on other planets around the universe other than the Earth. Requirements to be a Habitable Zone is the star around the planetor region must survive long enough for the planet to develop life and that the other planets in that region have the proper distance from its star so that the planet could have water remain as a liquid. For example, the Earth! Our Earth so far is probably the only planet we know 100% that is a habitable planet. What makes Earth habitable is its precise distance from out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are 3 planets Mars, Venus, and Mercury that are closest to being Earth like and are called Terrestrial planets. Mars today is not a habitable planet for humans to make a living on but is told by scientist and astronomers that on a day in the future it may be. The future for Mars would be dependent heavily on local Red Planet Resources, such near surface water and glaciers. Evidence starting in the 21st Century have evidence building that liquid water may be flowing through seasonally at some of the Martian sites, which could prove life up there as all others predicted. So until further more test is done yearly; Mars, for now, is not yet habitable but may become one soon yet to be known. Switching to Venus, the planet that is most Earth like. Astronomers believe that Venus may have been a habitable planet once is the past (about 2 billion in our Solar Systems history). This prediction came from the founding of Venus having a crushed Carbon Dioxide atmosphere that is 90 times thicker than our Earth s, and there is also no water vapor. But there has been a discovery that Venus had a shallow liquid state water ocean. Recent studies have shown that the speed of a planet s orbit can determine if a planet is habitable. Venus, in this case, was to have a slow orbit rate since it had the thickest atmosphere. Astronomers in the past have recorded that Venus had more dryland in the past than Earth does

To Kill A Fetus Pruss Analysis Rita Shamahsta Chris Corte February, 21, 2016 Response Essay I Was Once a Fetus: That Is Why Abortion Is Wrong First, Pruss asserts that abortion is wrong because killing a fetus is human. According to his article, the fetus isn t different from anybody. I agree with Pruss about abortion is wrong because the fetus has right to live. Moreover, a human fetus is simply of a human being at an earlier stage in development than I and you are nothing suggests that it is anything other than a human. A human fetuses are human, before and after birth. So because it is human, killing it is just as wrong as killing a fully developed, adult human being. Pruss is an associate professor of philosophy at Baylor University, states that, each individual person develops from a fetus (70). That s absolutely correct. And, of course, it equally applies to all human life. In addition to his thought that killing a fetus is wrong and a crime, Pruss confirms that killing a fetus is a crime with a victim. Fyfe states that with training...more comparable to that provided social workers, schoolteachers, psychologists and lawyers , police would become more adept at preventing violence. I believe this to be true, yet I think that many policedepartments confuse quantity with quality, and divert funding to the wrong places in an effort to better themselves. Training needs to be at the forefront of any reform. A police force that is educated and experienced, with knowledge of the community will be much more successful at preventing violence. Most would agree that departments need more funding. However, there are discrepancies regarding where to place these funds. Police ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lawyers and psychologists require even more schooling, a minimum of around eight years. Police officers end up being all of these things, and more. To obtain the real goal of law, and prevent crime, officers must have the trust and respect of the community they serve. Instead, policing has been defined as uneducated people s work (Fyfe, 262). Many citizens feel that the people protecting them are not as smart as they are. This leads to disrespect, and a sense of superiority within the community. With disrespect comes uncooperation, something any department would be worlds better without. If officers were required to obtain more basic schooling, and focus on social issues and psychology more during training, they would be better equipped to take up the position of law enforcement in any community. Besides the obvious benefit of being more adept at dealing with citizens, there would be added bonuses in police departments requiring more strenuous schooling. With four years of general education, officers would inherently become acquainted with a wide range of topics that they might not otherwise be exposed to with the minimal curriculum now required. Foreign language, art, and psychology classes would be especially useful in exposing up and comers to the varied environments they might encounter in their careers. Most importantly, people in the community would have a new respect for the

It is easy to see why this is a strong argument among the American people, especially because of the rising popularity of violent video games and television programs. However, as these violent video games and television shows are creating their own place in our society, the reports of violenceamong children are escalating. The children that watched the aggressive interaction acted aggressively toward the doll while the children that observed the normal interactions with doll did not act aggressively. With these results, Bandura argued that children imitated behavior they witness, and that if they observed violent behavior in the media, they were likely to copy this behavior and act violently themselves (Bandura 575). Many experiments followed Bandura s footsteps, attempting to prove that there was a link between media violence and violence among the youth. These studies are still being conducted today, as there has yet to be a scientific consensus on the issue. However, despite there being evidence toward the contrary, many organizations have stated their position on the issue: they are against media violence because it causes violent behavior in children. One such organization is the National Association for the Education of Young Children ( Media Violence in Children s Lives ). Influential organizations such as the NAEYC do not educate the public on all of the findings of studies intended to discover the relationship between media violence and violence among children. AS a result, the public continues to believe its original hypothesis that media violence is the root cause of increasing violent actions among the youth. One such study, conducted
