20th Century American Politics
Over the course of the 20th century, the people located in what is now modern day Slovakia
experienced immense political transformation. Before the end of World War I, the Slovakian people
were part of the Austro Hungarian Empire. When the empire dissolved, two republics were formed
creating Czechoslovakia until it too was dismantled by political demonstrations in the 1970s and
1980s. However, this volatile nature settled down when Slovakia became its own independent state
in 1993. Though the state is relatively young, it is still an imperative component of the European
Union today and this democracy is seen as functioning tremendously well nowadays. Slovakia s
main political policy tends to focus around cultural issues, which has negatively impacted the nation
state with periods of corruption and minority rights violations. However, since 2002, these concerns
started to turn... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Politics is usually characterized by contests for and shifts of power signifying the desire of the
people to place their sovereignty in the hands of responsible leaders. Such leaders devise political
manifestos and promises of institutions to implement the ideal governance that is the people s
craving. This underlies the diversity of political parties, opinions, institutions and other avenues that
together define the longitudinal political climate of a state. Moreover, the differences constitute the
myriad of systems that allow for comparison between countries based on the similarity or
distinction of design systems. This comparison of Intra and inter country systems is the concept of
comparative politics. The intra country comparison uses political calculation elements such as the
effective number of political parties in the nation. In this light, this research presents the
comparative politics of

Dr. R. Jesse Tuck
Ninety years have flown by since Winnie Foster first met the immortal Tucks in the woods.
Jesse tuck now 194 years old, went in search to find his beloved Winnie Foster. If Winnie had
drunk from the magical spring, she would still be alive today. Jesse was feeling distressed, he
couldn t stop thinking about whether or not Winnie drunk from the spring. If she hadn t drunk
the water it would be hard for Jesse to find someone who will be with him forever. Jesse was
talking to a man at a restaurant and he had said that the woods where the spring lied had been
bulldozed. If the man was telling the truth, this meant that no other girl would be able to live
forever with Jesse Tuck. As Jesse left the restaurant on his motorcycle, he then arrived at the
house Winnie Foster once lived in. As he made his way to the backyard he saw a gravestone
under a tree. Jesse was startled to see a young girl approach the gravestone to lay flowers, he
jumped behind a tree but he still caught the eye of the young girl. She had long, thick, wavy
brown hair just like Winnie did. Her sparkling blue eyes and golden skin made Jesse wonder if
that was his love Winnie Foster. Jesse came out from behind the tree and ran up and hugged the
young girl. Winnie I found you! Jesse said relived Umm... sorry sir, my name is Aggie. Who are
you? The young girl replied Sorry. Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jesse Tuck. I m
looking for a girl named Winnie Foster Jesse questioned Have you seen her?

Manifest Destiny And Westward Expansion Essay
1) OUTLINE: I. Topic sentence.
Manifest destiny and westward expansion was a tremendous key component to the growth of the
nation economically because of the impact it had on native americans, women empowerment, and
expanding the population of the country.
II. Significance of topic.
Americans looked towards the western lands as an opportunity for large amounts of free land, for
growth of industry, and pursue the manifest destiny.
III. List of evidence related to topic.
The railways became an important system that guided settlement and delivered economic
opportunity for much of the United States. Railroads allowed access to places that people had no
means of getting to and provided an opportunity to develop cities and towns
As Western Expansion picked up, it became clear that just as before, the goals of American
expansionists conflicted with the needs of the Natives in the area of expansion
Women were an essential contribution towards expanding the West. Womens roles changed and
during this time and there was a major shift in women power.
Where ever the railroads were being built, those areas population went up dramatically.

Correlation Between Motivation And Achievement
Brown and Wahlberg designed a study in which they intended to demonstrate an independent causal
relationship between motivation and achievement (Brown Wahlberg, 1993). They purported to
have devised a study with a randomized assignment of students to conditions eliciting different
degrees of motivation (Brown Wahlberg, 1993, p. 134). The question for the researchers remained
what is the effect of experimentally manipulated motivational conditions on elementary math
scores (Brown Wahlberg, 1993, p. 133). The study remains a randomized quantitative mixed
methods quasi experimental study of 406 heterogeneously grouped students in third, fourth and
sixth through eighth grades in Chicago Public Schools (Brown Wahlberg, 1993). Three schools
were selected to participate in the study. The student populations in each school were described
as lower middle working class and predominantly Hispanic and African American (Brown
Wahlberg, 1993). Respective of each school, two classes were randomly selected out of each
grade level and randomly assigned to experimental groups. The participant groups were
administered the Mathematics Concept subtest of the Iowa Basic Skills (ITBS) 1978, Levels 9 14.
The ITBS was selected for its high reliability rating of 0.85 and its correlation with school
curriculum (Brown Wahlberg, 1993). One group received standard testing instructions while the
other group received an additional set of motivational instructions read from a script.

Gauguin Where Do We Come From What Are We Where Are We Going Paul Gauguin (1848 1903)
Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?
1897
Oil on Canvas, 5 feet by 12 feet
Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?, is the self acclaimed masterpiece of
Paul Gauguins career. It represents the culmination of his ideas and beliefs that he acquired
throughout his life as a painter. Many visual characteristics of the painting, such as the color, line,
and light are unrealistic in nature, but serve to emphasize the tropical surroundings in which
Gauguin loved to paint. Although the organization of the characters in this lush jungle clearing
seem random, Gauguin intended this work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idol also represents a change in color tones from the rest of the painting. It has been painted in
a light blue, similar to the coloring of background elements. According to Gauguin, this figure
represents the beyond, which is emphasized by its close relationship in color to nature. (Museum of
Fine Arts, Boston)
Although the use of line and light is not as defined as the color scheme, they still play an
important role in the overall organization of the painting. Gauguin uses curvilinear lines
throughout this work with no right angles or sharp points. The outlines in the background are
fairly blurry and some of the lines blend into one another. In contrast, the characters in the
foreground are comprised of precise, sharp lines. Gauguin goes as far as lightly outlining the
bodies with a dark line in order to give them a sense of depth. Light also serves to enhance certain
aspects of the painting. Gauguin has been careful in his use of light to create some areas of
brightness and some of darkness. The central figure glows in the bright light, which shines down
on her from above. This light shows the importance of the decision of whether to pick the fruit or
not. It is focused so directly on one area and is void in the others.
The organization and relationships of the characters, animals, and background elements in Where
do we come from? seem to be fairly unorganized and random, but Gauguin has placed them in this
order consciously. The painting is

The Republic, By Plato Essay
In one of his most widely read texts, the Republic, Plato sets out to explore the very nature of the
concept of Justice, the various forms it takes in the world, and its relevance to the lives of men. As
Socrates states, it is about the way we ought to live (I 352d). The dialogue begins by introducing
the commonly held view of justice, via Thrasymachus, Glaucon and Adeimantus, as the non
performance of certain types of unlawful or antisocial acts. However, the entire treatise quickly
moves on to concentrate on a different meaning of justice, as a form of moral virtue. He wishes to
demonstrate that justice and moralityare interconnected because humans can only achieve a good
life which he claims is the best way to live if they have those things that are desirable in
themselves (II 357b). Therefore Plato s argument, as it sets out to prove the intrinsic value of
living a just life, is neither deontological, nor consequentialist. In the Republic, Plato is arguing for
the transcendent value of justice as a human good, or virtue, which informs and guides moral
conduct. Plato bases his argument on a new and unique understanding of what justice is and how
morally sensitive people are able to learn about the real nature of justice, morality and other virtues.
He believes that it is necessary to grasp the true or intrinsic nature of certain virtues in order to
make accurate judgements about the appropriate way to act in relation to others, justice and the
collective good.

Ivan Eyre Landscape And Still Lives Analysis
Ivan Eyre is one of the most renowned artists of Manitoba. Born in Tullymet, Saskatchewan and
moved to Winnipeg almost sixty years ago, Eyre s art is both surrealistic, modern and landscape
portraiture. With his praire background Ivan Eyre has an unique approach of stills and
landscapes with a remarkable sense of surrealism. His compositionally abstracts reflect on the
decades he had created his art in; the colors, forms and themes are truly showing his particular
taste and creativity. Landscapes and Still Lives is a smaller exhibition of eleven works by Ivan
Eyre which are all in the permanent collection of the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Eyre s stills are well
organized landscapes which seem to be a magnification of a surrealistic life.... Show more content

The viewer can learn about the times the artworks were created, the medium used and the
inspiration of the artist. While some artworks only have a fragment of presentation it is easy to
gather a generic idea about the influence of the artist. The public presentation are the words of the
curator which is easily noticeable through the friendly tone of text. The intentions of the curator are
well represented in the smaller and in the larger public reflections and the openness of the contexts
makes it easy to understand these intentions. These intentions show the viewer the different sides of
the artist which makes his unique art.
The colors of choice in each painting seems unintentional however, is it? I believe every single
art piece was carefully developed and well thought out. Ivan Eyre is an artists of passion and
thought. He might have unconventional forms and themes, but his art is based on solid ideas.
The whole exhibit supports how he chose his themes and how his past (and present) reflects on
his artwork. It is absolutely impossible and almost foolish to try to define the singular meaning of
Eyre s art. Landscapes and Still Lives is not only an exhibition of an artist it is an exhibition of
prairie life, imagery, memories and an important part of Canadian art too. Andrew Kear wrote For
Eyre, art excels when it discloses a world that is fundamentally private, irrational, and instructable
even to the artist themself.

Comparing Mistakes In The Stranger And The Invisible Man
When it comes to discovering a purpose in life, humans are able to do so by making and
occasionally learning from their mistakes. In both The Invisible Man and The Stranger, both of the
protagonists find the meaning of their own lives through a series of mistakes that lead them to a
view changing epiphany
There is a very popular saying in American culture that tells people to learn from their mistakes . In
the case of humans finding their identities and realizing what their purpose is, mistakes are a good
place to start looking. Evidence of this lies in The Stranger, where Meursault differed from
everyone around him by taking of interest in all in bettering his life. Throughout the entirety of
The Stranger, Meursault was given several opportunities to make a better life for himself, and
rejected all of them, and though he did not see said rejected as a mistake, it most assuredly was.
When his boss mentioned he was opening a business office in Paris and offered Meursault a job
there, Meursault denied the offer, stating that people never change their lives, that in any case one
life was as good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Meursault from The Stranger and The Narrator from The Invisible Man made mistakes that
led them to to finding their life purposes, and people in real life often times find their purpose
through mistakes, as well. While their life purposes contradict each others rather strongly
Meursault feels that life has no purpose and doesn t do much for anyone but himself, while The
Narrator of The Invisible Man feels he has to do everything for everyone higher up than he both get
to these conclusions by committing some type of blunder. Humans cannot learn what to do if they
don t learn what not to do first, and they cannot truly appreciate success without experiencing
failure first. This is why human purpose can be found in the mistakes humans make on an almost

Aboriginal Treatment Of Native People
The treatment of native peoples all around the world has been a major issue for generations. This
essay will show you how both the Indigenous Australians and Native Americans were treated from
the first settlement of white peoples in their land up until now. It will assess how the system
worked, the rights of the native peoples, why the system was the way it was, and how it impacted
the world as a whole.
The Australian constitution, made in 1901 states, in reckoning the numbers of people... The
Aboriginal Natives shall not be included. It also says that it will legislate (make laws for) any race
other than the Indigenous Australians. They were originally unable to vote, and were excluded from

The Native Americans were forced and paid to leave their traditional lands and either chose to hide
from or join the white people by living on reserves. Their native tongue, teachings and traditions
were soon to be extinct and one man named Ishi and his family went around trying to pass on their
culture to the new inhabitants of their land, The whites. Unfortunately, Ishi died not long after, a
subject of disease. And thanks to his efforts and the efforts of people all around America, white
people began to rally against the government alongside the natives. Native Americans were granted
the same rights as any other American in 1924 and were soon merged in with the rest of society.
In both cases, after a long, hard battle against the white settlers on their land, the Indigenous
Australians and Native American have finally been granted the rights they deserve and have been
accepted by society as a whole. Although, some people may stick to the old mindset, unable to
move on and appreciate the natives of the land on which they stand. They are, after all, the

Charles The Lamb Analysis
In the two illuminations, a unity of appearance and attributes links Charles to the Lamb and sets in
parallel the ways in which the earthly and heavenly rulers are honored. On facing pages, the
Carolingian illuminators depicted parallel terrestrial and celestial ceremonies of the aurum
coronarium. Just as Christ receives tribute in his heavenly court, so his terrestrial counterpart and
reflection, Charles the Bald, receives homage in his earthly reign. The Lamb is in the dome of
heaven; the king is under the baldachin s dome symbolizing heaven. Christ s exaltation in heaven
is set against Charles imperial exaltation. This parallelism between terrestrial and heavenly rulers
had been portrayed earlier in the diptych of Charles s Prayerbook (Figs. 6 7) and in the gable
ivories of the Throne of Peter (Fig. 4). As Robert Deshman demonstrated, both the diptych and the
ivories imply a concept of imitatio Christi (imitation of Christ) that exalts the ruler in his temporal
office and likens him to Christ.
In the Codex Aureus, the theme of Christ s triumph and exaltation has implications for the meaning
of the exalted king represented on the opposite page. Charles s portrait as Christomimetes (imitator
of Christ) not only enhances his status and authority among humans but it also conveys divine
inspiration. The Carolingian king is to be considered the divinely appointed ruler on earth and the
features of his portrait the baldachin and the hand of God support this image. The

Their primary marketing objective is to strategize menu development in order to grow customer
base. In the case, it is indicated that Panera manufactures its own fresh dough; which is not only
produced, but also delivered daily all over the country. Management at Panera views this as a
competitive advantage rather than viewing it as a costly process. Also, due to the rising cost of
ingredients due to the current economy, it is likely that Panera s menu pricing will experience a
rise and possible item substitution or replacement. I have personally already experienced this.
The price of ingredients greatly affects the menu pricing. In order for there to be an effective
analysis of their cost, more information is required on the cost of producing the items listed on

Gentrification In Brazil
Gentrification takes place everywhere, in cities and suburbs across the globe. When upper or
middle class families move into an area inhabited by those with lower socioeconomic standing rents
increase, businesses close and lower income residents are forced to leave. Where once a local
convenience store catered to the needs of the nearby working class, a posh new dance club adjoins
a high priced sushi bar (Garcia Navarro). As a neighborhood grows more attractive to outsiders
looking for an affordable place to live, locals are forced out of an area, a city, and often their jobs.
This happens in urban areas all over the world, and one place where it has become particularly
evident is the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. Thousands of tiny, cliffside houses surround the
city, climbing up into the verdant hills, packed together like brightly colored sardines. These are
the favelas, home to hundreds of thousands of the poorest people in Brazil. Many of Rio s favelas
remain dangerous and unstable, but in the past several years the Brazilian government has begun a
movement of pacification. Where once police would simply invade, battle a gang and withdraw,
they are now permanently stationed to ensure the safety of neighborhood residents. This safety,
however, brings with it a new kind of danger: as the favelas are pacified and begin to develop,...

As Rio s favela residents watch their homes smashed to rubble, working class people in urban
areas worldwide are forced out of their apartments as rents skyrocket and local businesses are

affordable housing and job opportunities, but for those displaced it often means the loss of a
livelihood, a school, a place to live. People are forced out of cities they have known all their lives
and young people returning after only a few months or years can hardly recognize their own
neighborhoods

If either of those were not up to standards, then the whole business model would collapse and
prove to be unsuccessful. Some professors would chose based on which publisher they favorites
the most or had been loyal to in the previous years. Other professors wanted cheaper books so
that their students would not be required to pay more and have a higher chance of actually
purchasing the material. Another trend Lindsol analyzed was that most professors were
unhappy with their book selection after purchasing the book and using it for courses because
the material was either outdated or not relevant anymore with the school s curriculum. In order
to enter the market successfully, Lindsol realized that it would be very difficult due to the fact
that original editorial business model had been successful for forty years but had failed to stay
current with today s technology. Crafting the Strategy Lindsol had to identify problems in the
industry and realized that there were several core reasons students did not like the shift
publishers made from hard copy to electronic PDF files. The main reasons collected by college
student surveys was that the devices used to read the books were cumbersome to use, they lacked
tools like highlighting, and they preferred having a physical hard copy of the books for them to

Taking a Look at Nucleophilic Reactions
Nucleophilic reactions occur when there is an electron pair donor and an electron pair acceptor
(2). There are two types of ways that nucleophilic reactions occur. There is the SN1 reaction and
the SN2 reaction. An SN1 is a two step reaction that occurs when a molecule first forms a
carbocation. Once the carbocation is formed, the nucleophile comes in and attaches to the molecule
(2). Below is a general reaction scheme of an SN1 reaction:
Below is the mechanistic scheme of SN1:
In an SN2 reaction, it is a one step reaction and occurs when a nucleophile attacks a molecule and
forces the leaving of a leaving group. Below is the mechanistic scheme of SN2: Reaction
kinetics is the study of the rates of chemical reactions. From these chemical mechanisms, one
derives the rate laws which will show how fast or slow a reaction is occuring and figure out if a
first order or a second order reaction is occuring (1). The first order reaction is an SN1 reaction. A
first order reaction has a rate proportional to the concentration of one reaction. A first order reaction
formula will be :
Rate =k[A] or rate=k[B] A second order reaction is an SN2 reaction. A second order reaction has a
rate proportional to the concentration of both reactants. The formula is as follows:
Rate=k[A][B]
SN1 reactions proceed through a carbocation, the product is a racemic mixture of the substitution
product which is a 50/50 racemic mixture. SN2 reactions do not form carbocation, but require the

Fifa Women s World Cup Essay
Thirty million dollars, that s what the German National Soccer team made last year for winning the
World Cup. The World Cup is one of the most prestigious accomplishments in any sport. The
players in the World Cup are some of the hardest working, highest paid athletes in the world. These
players are paid tremendous amounts of money by their club, their country, and FIFA. However this
is not the only World Cup, on a different four year rotation is the FIFA Women s World Cup. The
women in the World Cup are treated as inferior because of their gender in terms of payment,
respect and also treated poorly by their own governing body.
The FIFA Women s World Cup started in 1991 as a twelve team tournament. It has since expanded
to a 24 team tournament that features tremendous athletic ability and intense competition. The
United States has won the Women s World Cup three times, more than any other country, and is

Unemployment And The Rate Of Inflation
Unemployment and the rate of Inflation are two main problems faced by most economies around
the world. Lower rates of each are sought after in order to create and maintain a more stable
economy. Unemployment rate can be officially defined as a measure of the prevalence of
unemployment and it is calculated as a percentage by dividing the number of unemployed
individuals by all individuals currently in the labour force. The inflationrate is the percentage rate
of change of a price index over time. The Retail Prices Index is also a measure of inflation that is
commonly used in the United Kingdom. It is broader than the CPI and contains a larger basket of
goods and services.
By obtaining data for two countries, UK and France, on unemployment rate and CPI, which

discussing the unemployment rate graph.
This line graph represents the comparison of the changes of unemployment rate data from 1970

consistent for 4 years while the UK s rises slightly however generally during the 1970s the

Septic Tank Myths
To most homeowners, a septic tank system is one of the most intriguing parts of their home s
plumbing infrastructure and the smelliest as well.
Here at Halls Plumbers, we take pride in knowing that our customers are well informed before they
begin this home repair project, so let s examine the top seven biggest myths that exist about your
home s septic tank system.
1. There s no need to service a septic tank.
In reality, septic tanks need to be emptied every two to three years depending on the capacity of
the tank and the number of household residents. That being said, a septic tank system can typically
last up to 30 years sometimes even up to 50 years.
2. A septic tank is more important than a drain field.
Both are crucially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bacteria additives are unnecessary.
Bacteria in the tank helps maintain a healthy environment for breaking down waste and
replenishing effective volumes of bacteria.
5. No pumping is needed if you re using bacteria.
Completely false. A tank must be emptied regularly once it is full bacteria or no bacteria.
6. Household cleaners are not really harmful to your tank system.
Any chemical thrown into the septic tank system can kill beneficial bacteria if too much is
discarded into the tank.
7. Garbage disposals, water softeners and large amounts of water can t harm the system.
The truth is that the garbage disposal content increases solid waste before it can decompose. Water
softeners and high volumes of water only add to the amount of waste water that needs processing.
Moderation is the key here.

Analysis Of `` Peace `` By Rupert Brooke
Rupert Brooke, in his poem Peace addresses the value and honor of fighting in war. Brooke
hopes to inform readers that war is a gift and that those who are able to fight should do so
willingly, with great pride and honor. He adopts a passionate and serious tone in order to appeal to
the feelings and experiences in his intended audience of young English males. Brooke challenges
his intended audience by combatting their pessimistic beliefs of war. Brooke s sonnet Peace was
written during an era of war. Different views and opinions about the war arose creating opposing
ideas. Rupert Brooketakes an unpopular approach to the ideas and logistics of war, explaining
that war is a solution and not a problem like most think. This sonnet celebrates what Brooke
feels is his generation s great fortune to be born to fight in the First World War. He argues that it
is a joy to be young and fit and able to fight for good in a world full of corrupt, cowardly men. He
declares that the war has given the young a sense of freedom, and that to die in battle is a blessing
to the proud and patriotic. Because young men posses the most suitable and efficient bodies and
minds fit for war, they are Brooke s intended audience. Brooke aims to target young malereaders
who are unaware or opposed to the benefits of fighting for their country. Young males prove to be
the most valuable soldiers mentally because of their obedience and capacity for following and
obeying orders. He speaks with

Defense Scandal
Political polls provided by GALLUP (shown below) indicate from the years 2011 to 2015, only
seventeen percent of democrats believe that defense spending is too little . This leaves eighty three
percent of polled democrats to lean towards the notion that defense spending is too high . Typically,
the democratic party is considered a more conservative political party in the terms of military
funding. This leads the party to historically call for a reduction in military while a member holds
presidential office. Some of the arguments used to promote their position consist of improving
foreign relations by eliminating the perception of America using a show of military force in foreign
countries, lessening the burden of this expense on American... Show more content on

Safety and security are my main concerns when it comes to the topic of defense spending. If
America makes the choice to follow the democratic view and decrease defense spending, it will
only set us further behind the technological curve in comparison to other countries. It is no
surprise that China is one of the world s leading technology manufacturers. While China is still
considered an industrialization society, America has moved into the post industrialization
classification when studied sociologically. Industrialization societies provide goods, while post
industrialization societies provide services. This puts America in a disadvantage in this situation.
In war, the best strategy is to exploit your opposition s weakness in order to gain the advantage. In
reference to America, Technology would be the weakness to exploit. This is where the democratic
view shows extreme defects. The only way to ensure the safety of America and its citizens is to use
this increase in defense spending to prevent future altercations and have the ability to properly

Redy-Made Identities from Mercedes Benz C Class
Advertising why your product is better than other products in the market, is not enough to make
consumers buy your product anymore. These days companies need to relate to their customers
emotionally and logically. During Super Bowl I saw this Mercedes Benz C class commercial. It
is called Perfect Harmony. The commercial was about how everything lines up perfect ones in a
spell. The commercial shows the scene, where all the planets line up in a straight line. Later on
the scene background voice says that, When that perfect time comes, makes sure you are in the
correct spot and the right vehicle. In this Mercedes commercial, Mercedes tries to emotional
branding with their consumers, as well as they are attempting to sell ready made identities. In
the Mercedes Benz C250 commercial Mercedes is manipulating their consumers by selling them
a ready made identity. This is explained by Douglas Rushkoff, who said that, Brands become
more than just a mark of quality; they become an invitation to a longed for lifestyle, a ready
made identity. What Mr. Rushkoff is trying to say is that, brands are not just a product or a mark
of quality anymore. Brands have become a ready made identity, for instance, if an individual
owns a Mercedes that individual considered as a successful and well doing in their life. The
Mercedes C class commercial does not talk about the features of the car, or the technical aspects of
the car. Based on that, Mercedes Benz is not a car brand

The Prevalence Of Tommy John Surgery
The prevalence of Tommy John surgery, reconstruction of the Ulnar Collateral Ligament in the
elbow, in Major League Baseball pitchers has been growing significantly over the past fifteen
years. This injury results from overuse of the elbow joints as a result of thousands of pitches
over many years. According to Liu et al, an overall increase occurred in the number of UCL
reconstructions performed on MLB pitchers from 1999 to 2014. No more than fourteen MLB
pitchers underwent surgery in any one year between 1999 and 2005, but seven of the next nine
years has seen the number surpass this mark, culminating in highs of 35 surgeries in 2012 and 30
in 2014. They also found a revision rate of 13.2% over the same time period, meaning that roughly
one in eight pitchers who undergo Tommy John surgeryonce will likely require it at least one more
time in their career. Furthermore, the total number of revisions from 2012 to 2014 (21) exceeds
the total number of revisions from 2003 to 2011 (20) with no signs of this trend slowing down.
This is significant because while receiving Tommy John Surgery once is not necessarily career
threatening like it once was, receiving it more than once is far more likely to be so. According to
doctors at Henry Ford Hospital, among pitchers who received the surgery more than once, only
65% returned to the MLB in any capacity and none of those pitchers were pitching more than three
years after coming back (Verducci, Sports Illustrated).

Sixth Sense Scene
The sixth sense was one of M. Night Shyamalan most remarkable works. A late nineties
supernatural horror thriller movie, which was released in august 9 of 1999. The film is about a
man named Dr. Malcolm Crowe, who is a child psychologist in Philadelphia. He returns home
one night with his wife, Anna, after having been honored for his work as a psychiatrist. A young
man appears in their bathroom, and accuses Malcolm of failing him. Malcolm recognizes him as
Vincent Grey, a former patient whom he treated as a child for hallucinations. After Malcolm

The reasoning behinds this is that it has a great symbolic meaning to it. The color symbolizes
anything in the real world that has been tainted by the other world and is used to suggest really
explosively emotional moments and situations. A scene that helps support this is when Cole
was at the birthday party. Cole s red jumper at the kid s party, and the red balloon, both pre empt
the ghost sobbing in the wall. It has also been said that the image of the balloon rising up
towards the light through the center of the spiral staircase is representative of a spirit rising up
towards God, with the staircase representing life s journey. The fact that Cole wears red here
could be symbolic of his situation at this point: he is naive and uncertain, but is drawn to the
voices nonetheless. Red is the color of the spirit world, and so by wearing it he is inadvertently
drawing spirits towards him. Whenever Cole was scared he would run to the Church which had
a big red door, or he would run to his sanctuary which was a red tent in his house. So,
contradictorily, red is both a color of danger and ghosts, and of safety and refuge. I think the key
to understanding this contradiction is in religion and all its contradictions and promises. Cole s
understanding of religion is a simple one. He sees the church as a place to escape the spirits voices
that are haunting him, and yet he enters possibly one of the most spiritual places

Golda Meir Research Paper
Golda Meir spent her life actively involved in the betterment of the Jewish people, culminating
her impact on Israel as the first, female Prime Minister from 1969 1973. From her beginnings as a
young, Jewish girl living in a political environment where hate against her was encouraged, to her
socialist Zionist background, to her experience of living abroad, back to Israel, Golda Meir
passionately fought for fairness and human rights.
As a young girl Golda Meir was exposed to ideologies and life experiences that impacted her
world view and thus her actions. Her family lived with hatred for the Jews and government
sponsored anti Semitism under the ruling of Tsar Nicholas II in Kiev, Russia. After living in fear
and poverty, and at the age of 8, Meir s family emigrated to the United States of America. Here she

Gender Roles In Celie By Alice Walker
In the text, the author differentiates the roles between females and males in society in both
settings. Throughout the text there are many examples of women having the duty of being a
caregiver and the men are the ones who do the hard physical work or even stand back and let the
women do all the work and vice versa between settings. For example, in Celie s setting, there is a
change between the roles of men and women. At first, Celie is the one who is doing all the work
around the house. Celie is referred to as the one who holds the house down and do the things the
men would not do. Celie here. Good housekeeper, good with children, good cook (Walker 20).

Analysis Of Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, And Family Life
Summary: Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, and Family Life Annette Lareau, author of Unequal
Childhoods Class, Race, and Family Life, revealed her research findings in this enlightening text
featuring twelve socially, economically, and culturally diverse families having a child nine to ten
years of age respectively in their nuclear familyunit. These families were garnered from the author s
coinciding study comprised of eighty eight children. Lareau, along with her research assistants,
visited each family approximately twenty times. Visits included time spent within the home, as well
as family events, school functions, doctor s visits, structured activities, shopping trips, and church
services. Wide ranging contexts allowed researchers a unique opportunity to observe and record a
multiplicity of interactions within each family unit. Exploring the nuances of race and social
position beginning in childhoodand culminating in adulthood Lareau explores different approaches
exercised by parents in raising children. Separating families into three categories, including: middle
class, working class, and poor, the author began her study. Attempting to answer the question, What
is the outcome of these different philosophies and approaches to child rearing? Lareau discovers
that the answer was found in the transmission of differential advantages (Lareau 2011:5).
Accordingly, these advantages equip children with tools to navigate through life progressively or
prohibitively respective to the individual instruction obtained in childhood. In unearthing these
discoveries, the author employed the use of ethnography through naturalistic observation utilizing
field notes and taped recordings of interviews with family members. Poor and working class parents
were found to hold to an accomplishment of natural growth parental philosophy. Natural growth
promotes a clear separation between children and adults, employs the use of directives, places little
emphasis on the importance of verbal communication and eye contact, allows children greater
independence, and promotes deference and submissiveness to adults. Inspiring and positive
qualities can be found in children raised in homes exercising this perspective, qualities such

Psychoopathology Of Child Sexual Abuse
The research put forth by Rind et al (1998), while obviously controversial, was delving into other
variables that could be correlated to the severity of psychopathology of victims that experienced
child sexual abuse. While child sexual abuse is a very sensitive subject, I think this research has
benefited the conversation of CSA. There are multiple variables that cause a person s
psychopathology and to blame the mental disorders on strictly one event or multiple events of the
same acts is in my opinion naive. In many cases I think that CSA have a major impact on victims
but as the research suggests, there are multiple factors that correlate to the psychopathology of
victims. One that Rind et al (1998) did not research was the resilience of... Show more content on

Dallam et al (2001) critiqued the sample population of college students, I understand their
critique, that it may exclude the most severely affected, but that was the whole point of the
research put forth by Rind et al (1998), that someone can be severely affected in a clinical
definition of the terms but their psychopathology may not be severe. I think that Rind et al
(1998) were trying to figure out why some people are impacted more severely psychologically
where other victims are more resilient. Dallam et al (2001) critiques the clearly impossible
standard to have one definition of abuse and Rind et al s over inclusion of the definitions. I
think Rind et al (1998) had reason to over include because to leave out one definition of abuse
would be neglectful. Therefore by researching all definitions of abuse, you can find correlations
with the 18 different psychological categories and CSA that Rind et al (1998) had used within
their study. The research by Rind et al (1998) was controversial because it was a very complex
subject to analyze. I do agree that there should be more studies completed in a different population
to look into severity of subjects that may have been exposed to more

Oneness in Walden, Nature and American Scholar Essay
Oneness in Walden, Nature and American Scholar
Some of the most prominent works which express a relationship between the individual and nature
are undoubtedly Walden by Henry David Thoreau and the essays written by Ralph Waldo Emerson,
specifically Nature and The American Scholar. In each of these works, an idea of wholeness,
oneness, with nature is expressed. Thoreau and Emerson both believe that man, in order to live a
full, happy life, must live in harmony with nature. Both writers share several ideas as to how this
oneness with nature can be achieved, and its significance.
Emerson, in his Scholar address, states that nature is the most important influence on man and his
thinking. Because in nature there is no beginning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emerson and Thoreau both urge people to go out and experience life for themselves instead of
merely reading about it. Reading is necessary for growth, but one should not depend on it to
change their lives; for that, they have to live simply in nature. In this way, to both authors, books
seem to be a direct hindrance to achieving the wholeness that nature offers because reading keeps
man from experiencing nature himself. Once they experience life s richness through nature, they
are better able to develop spiritually and experience the divine.
Emerson believed that man s mind is creative; he does not need only receive a sensory perception
of God, but can actually create a consciousness of God. In creating this consciousness, man
becomes god like. In this way, man can experience God, know God, not just know of Him, and
realize a way of life that is better (more god like) than his own. Emerson believed that this ideal, this
experiencing the divine, was possible through building a harmonious relationship with nature.
Thoreau saw this ideal way of life in nature as well. He believed that the key to this spiritually
rich, ideal existence was to simplify one s life. If one were to give up all unnecessary and
materialistic ties, and live with the bare necessities (fuel, clothing, shelter, food) then one may
spend more time concentrating on developing spiritually.

Medical Use of Psilocybin Essay
During a visit to Mexico, Gordon Wasson, a mycologist, discovered the use of psilocybin mushroom
in spiritual ceremonies by Indian tribes. Upon experiencing the spiritual and hallucinatory effects of
the mushroom, Wasson returned to the area accompanied by an experienced mycologist, Roger
Heim, who managed to cultivate the mushroom once in France and send samples of it to the
scientist who had discovered lysergic acid, Albert Hoffman. From the mushrooms, Hoffman
successfully isolated two compounds which he further named psilocybinand psilocin. Analogs of
these compounds were further synthesized and were employed mainly for psychotherapeutic uses.

Once in the stomach, due to the highly acidic environment, psilocybin undergoes a removal of its
phosphate group, and is converted into psilocin. This process is called dephosphorylation. Aqueous
solutions of psilocybin are very sensitive to light and rapidly oxidize in its presence. A great variety
of analytical methods can be used for psilocybin identification and evaluation. Amongst them are
thin layer chromatography, gas chromatography used along with mass spectrometry , infrared
spectroscopy and high performance liquid chromatography.
Treatment Although prescribed use of psilocybin is rare nowadays for medicinal purposes; many
tests have been done on its medicinal uses in patients with personality disorders. Some tests have
shown a noticeable reduction in obsessive compulsive disorder as a result of psilocybin use.
Psilocybin has also been tested and is sometimes administered to cancer patients and has been
proven to ease mental stress and the emotional baggage caused by cancer by changing the patient s

The title character of Mozart s Don Giovanni embodies a figure that holds few ethical values, is
wealthy, and endlessly seduces various women. With the use of his servant, Leporello, Don
Giovanni is able to evade women who would like to marry him, such as Donna Elvira. Due to his
treacherous actions, at the end of the opera, Don Giovanniis forced to decide between accepting his
fate in hell, or renouncing his former lifestyle by ceasing his pursuit of women. Despite the dark

Interestingly, the melody that Don Giovanni uses to serenade Donna Elvira s maid with, is
similar to the melody he used to woo Donna Elvira at 1:16 in the trio. However, the mandolin he

song. By reusing the same melody, Don Giovanni can be seen as using the same tricks to seduce
women. It seems even more heartbreaking for Donna Elvira, because while she believes the
words sung by Don Giovanni are only meant for her, Don Giovanni uses them on her own maid.

role as a woman who was easily

An Unexamined Life Is Not Worth Living
The Examined or Unexamined Life Socrates was a classical Greek philosopher who lived from
470 BC to 399 BC. Today he is credited with many influential philosophical ideas and quotes, but
one in particular An unexamined life is not worth living . What Socrates means by this quote is
that a life without the pursuit of wisdom and knowledge is no life at all. Socratesreflects on this idea
to his audience of jurors during his trial. The men of Athens felt threatened by Socrates, believing
him spreading his philosophical ideas would disrupt their way of life and order in the city of
Athens. During his trial Socrates pleads his ignorance about the world around him and that all he
wishes to do is to explore his thoughtand attempt to gain as much knowledge as he can.
Throughout his life Socrates has gained a number of enemies and critics just for being a curious
person. He understands this and preaches it to his jurors at the trial explaining to them that he
would venture around the city conversing with professionals of a certain craft, not for the purpose
of exposing their ignorance of the world around them but to learn for himself along with attempting
to teach them to think critically and on their own. Socrates uses the craftsmen as an example in his
defense. He explains that he approaches the craftsmen to become more knowledgeable about their
profession and that they would be wiser than he was about the subject, he goes on to say the good

Since everyone is from completely different backgrounds, there is no way to figure out all the
reasons for why they do it. According to Katherine S. Newman, there are five things that all
school shooters have in common. At some point in their life, they were seen as different in
some way, shape, or form. All shooters also suffer from some sort of depression. Because of the
depression, they look to be problem solvers. They want to be known and get the glamour and
street credit. They crave the power, status, and history. They feel as if the glorious feeling of
death will cure the quiet, dark, and alone side that they have. The shooter also broadcasts their
intentions and the attacks are never spontaneous. By giving little hints, they try to gain friends
and keep the ones they have safe. They all want to have social status or revenge on a group that
does not want them. (Newman). Although these reasons all make sense, it is such a broad
spectrum of ideas and characteristics. There is no way of knowing the motive for a persons
actions, especially if it is not being looked for or talked about. It is important to be aware of these
characteristics because it is one of the first steps in preventing these horrible events from

Tim Burton Influences
Tim Burton the creator of a plethora of childhood films is in numerous of ways, so to say one of
the best directors. The style of Tim Burton is very different to the regular fairy tales that people
are used to. Often times the setting is dark and around someone different. One attribute that sets
Tim Burton away from other directors is his influences from when he was a kid. Tim Burton uses
many thoughts that some may call junk. However, he uses these tools to create a whole new
image that he interpreted in a whole new way. Many of Tim Burton s works were often influenced
by Dr. Seuss, Edgar Allen Poe, and Vincent Price. They often promoted rhyme and plot in an
extraordinary way. However the characteristics that actually set him apart from the... Show more

All of Tim Burton s movies have some sort of editing that allows the setting and plot to be in the
right places and location at all times. As Tim Burton uses editing for a myriad of his animated
and stop motion projects it helps construct the vision of the pictures flow smoother and have a
more desired effect that intrigues people. These effects can be seen in all films, however, better in
some than others. We see excellent use of editing from Tim Burton in graphics and video quality
to produce things look better and flow easier. Some examples of this, come in the movies of
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory(2005) and Edward Scissorhands(1990). For example, we see
that in Charlie and the Chocolate factory(2005) the editing plays a big role in what we think of
the characters and our viewpoints of the characters simply by the editing and graphical imagery.
Augustus Gloop, a fat boy with tiny eyes of German descent, to make the character Tim Burton
used editing to create a child who was fat and animated to make an appearance that didn t hurt
the casters feeling of being fat and unfit. Another example is in Edward Scissorhands(1990) we
see the look of the town in a plastic and unrealistic and cheap way. The way that it looked showed
how artificial and unlifelike the town really was. These examples show how animating and editing
can greatly change how we see the image of a character or

Example Of A Hero Of Brunhild
Sigurd is an example of a hero who follows a strong moral and ethical code. The most prominent
example of this occurs after he has rescued Brunhild from her castle for the second time while he
is disguised as his friend Gunnar. At this point in the story, Sigurd no longer remembers his love
for Brunhild because of a potion he was given. Therefore, he agrees to take the form of his friend
so Gunnar can marry Brunhild. Sigurd clearly cares very much about doing the right thing and
keeping the promise he made to Gunnar. In fact, Sigurd makes sure to place his sword between
him and Brunhild when they sleep together. It can be argued that Sigurd was willingly being
deceptive towards Brunhild, but this situation does show Sigurd s inner desire to be honorable by
helping others and fulfilling his promises. Additionally, when Sigurd is able recall the fact that he
loves Brunhild, it is his honor and recognition of the fact that she is someone else s wife that
prevents him from acting on his feelings. Bakaridjan Kone is another example of a hero who takes
pride in his moraland ethical code. He is even willing to die so that he may act in accordance with
it. In the myth, Bakaridjan Kone makes the imprudent decision to boast that I am so strong that
if I were to stamp one foot, so much earth would give way that the entire kingdom of Segu would
be swallowed up! But the people would have nothing to fear, for I could pull out all of Segu with
one finger! But if I were to fall into

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), came into effect on January 1, 1994,
creating the largest free trade region in the world, generating economic growth and helping to
raise the standard of living for the people of all three countries participating. By strengthening
the rules and procedures governing trade and investment, the NAFTA has shown to be a great
base for adding to Canada s prosperity and has set a valuable example of the benefits of trade
liberalization for the rest of the world. NAFTA was designed with many economic results in
mind. Hopes were that not only trade would be easier, cheaper, and easier for all countries
involved, but economic wealth and growth would follow. The support for NAFTA was spilt among

That created a lot of pay cheques in Canada. (Marville)
Trade of commodities is not the only thing that has grown in response to NAFTA as Canada also
has benefited from an increase of trade in services. In Canada, NAFTA has helped to increase the
imports of goods over the past decade in these fields: machinery and equipment, communications
equipment, and automotive equipment. This has caused Canada s automotive industry to have a
noticeable rise, allowing the economy to increase positively. Exports of goods from Canada have
also grown significantly. Example being, in 1998, the increase in Canada s exports to the NAFTA
regions was approximately equivalent to the entire value of our exports to Japan and to the 15
nations of the European Union combined. These simple statistics can easily show how the North
American Free Trade Agreement has impacted the imports and exports to Canada positively. (Rolf
Mirus) Canada has benefited directly from NAFTA as every one in five jobs are in linked to
international trade. (GlobeRover) With the savings from tax and tariff extermination between the
three NAFTA regions, Canada is able to spend money on hiring more workers with more workers,
Canada receives more income and with more income, Canada receives more profit which in turn
leads to a better and stronger economy. Canada has added 4.7 million new jobs since 1993.

The Age Of Exploration And Its Effects On Economic And...
Summative
As European economy grew, and became more reliant on a cash system, replacing the land based
system of feudalism. The power shift is prominent, shifting from the lords and nobles to the
merchants of the middle class. The Age of Exploration has provided a framework for economic life
around the world for several centuries while also shaping politics, social relations, cultures, and
natural environments, changing the very nature of society. Of course the most important aspect of
this modernistic convention would most certainly be the newfound relation between, capitalism and
globalization and their effects on economic and political power. However some countries succeeded
in their endeavour of international trade, while others did not. Europeans constructed and
maintained their trade and territorial empires, whether through conquest, centralizing authority,
religious conversion, commercial monopolies, or through conflict with other Europeans. Economics
seems to be the most significant factor in the production line of human progress. There has been no
event in history that did not involve an aspect of economy. The basis of commerce in the Age of
Exploration, led to growth of international trade that would eventually lead to the Industrial
revolution. This foundation is heavily reliant on European powers enforcing economic trade around
merchant capitalism and the existing monarchy monopolism ideologies.Trade within Europe would
continue to facilitate economic growth

Girl Interrupted Essay
GIRL, INTERRUPTED by Susanna Kaysen (New York: Turtle Bay Books, 1993)
1. Author:
Susanna Kayson was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1948 where she still lives.
She is the author of books which are in some parts related to her personal experiences.
She worked as a free lance editor and proof reader until an introduction to an agent set her career in
motion.
Her novels:
The novel that caught the agent s attention, Asa, As I Knew Him, was published in 1987 and
people were very interested in it. Kaysen followed up the success of her first book three years later
with her second novel, Far Afield. Kaysen s third and as far as I know last book, Girl, Interrupted
has been hugely acclaimed in America and Britain.
2. Subject of the book: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was sent to McLean because of that where she was, as mentioned before, treated for depression
and Borderline Personality. But apart from that, we learn almost nothing about her family,
friends, or her past. She mentions that one boy liked her so much that he remained in contact
with her even while she was in hospital; on one of her visits to him she had to leave the hospital
he asked her to marry him and she accepted it. This comes as a total surprise to the reader. She
mentions that the marriage did not last, and that she has had a number of lovers. Susanna decided
to have no children. She wanted to be a writer, and she succeeded.
As it is an autobiography it is very hard to find some other important characters.
But there are the several doctors, nurses and other clients. There is Lisa Rowe who thinks she is hot
shit, and if she could have any job in the world, she would be a professional Cinderella. She is
wildest and most hardened of the bunch. She always runs off. SheВґd had beautiful nails, which
she worked on, polishing, shaping, buffing. They said her nails were sharps.
She rarely ate and she never slept, so she was thin and yellow, the way people get when they
donВґt eat, and she had huge bags under her eyes.
Georgina Tuskin, SusannaВґs roommate, who comes in swiftly and totally, during her junior year
at Vassar. She was in the theatre when a wave of blackness broke over

Advantages And Effect Of Organophosphate
Organophosphate is a term applied to describe any organic phosphorus (V) bearing compound, it
too refers to insecticides that acting on the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. Organophosphate
pesticides degrade at high speed by hydrolysis on exposure to soil, air and sunlight; these
characteristics made them a desirable alternative to the persistent organochloride pesticides. Many
of organophosphateoperative by inhibiting the action of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in nerve cells,
which is vital to nerve function in most of insects, animals, as well as humans. This leads to a
pathologic extra of acetylcholine in the body and causes the organophosphate poisoning indication
such as dizziness, weakness and nausea.
Many of the organophosphate are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
JH acts as hormones that manipulate the type of molt that a juvenile insect will go through. With the
presence of JH, Ecdysone triggers larva to larva molts. On the contrary, the ecdysone will
supports the larva pupa or pupa to adult molt if absence of JH. The juvenile hormone analogs
(JHAs) insecticides such as methroprene and pyriproxyfen are insecticides that disturb the standard
amount of juvenile hormone by mimic the chemical structure or biological action of juvenile
hormone (Wilson 2004, Henrick 2007). JHAs are more effective at the beginning stage of
metamorphosis and embryogenesis in insects, so it is broadly apply as larvicide. JHAs selectively
target and disrupt the endocrine system of insects. The JHAs interferes with molting process which
causes premature molting, this may leads to deformations of wings and reproductive parts.
2.7.1.1 Methoprene
Methoprene is one of the insecticides under juvenile hormone analogs. It can be divided into two
different forms namely s methoprene and r methoprene. Methoprene was first registered in the
United States for use as insecticides in year 1975.
The physical properties of Methoprene: (Kidd and James 1991, Kamrin 1997).

Aim: My aim is to find out if heating the hydrochloric acid affects the rate of magnesium and
hydrochloric acid.
Prediction: I predict that the heating the hydrochloric acid will effect it as heating is one type of
changing the rate of reaction.
Method:
Get three clamps and clamp stands from the cupboard, and set them up and get a water bath and
set it up to the right temperature (20 80) and then let it get to the right temp get a gas syringe form

Start timing as soon as it starts to react with the hydrochloric acid. When it has finished reacting,
measure how much gas was produced and clear the syringe and then clear the stop watch and repeat
this twice with every different temperature. Scientific theory:
In a chemical reaction no mass is lost, when the reactants turn in to the product of the reaction,
chemical reactions involve a permanent change not just a temporary one.
For this to happen their hast to be a change in energy as reactions always give out or take in
energy most of the time this is heat energy this means the temperature in a reaction will go up or
down.
Visible changes can occur in the reaction mixture. These show that a reaction has taken place, for
example a gad is given off or a solid is made or the colour changes.
Oxidation this happens with most substances usually forming an oxide
e.g. magnesium if not kept in a solution then it will react with oxygen forming magnesium oxide.
Exothermic (give out heat) the reaction supplies the energy as heat.
The heat energy is given to the surroundings; the temperature might go up making it feel hot.
Temperature by changing the temperature in a experiment you are effecting the rate of reaction
by heating it you are making the experiment go faster because you are making the particles react
faster giving a higher chance of a collision happing and if you drop you are causing the

Child Pornography Is An Acceptable And Unavoidable Work...
People in the adult film industry are exposed to sexually transmitted infections in the workplace.
There are no other legal occupations in America where the exposure to diseases is an acceptable
and unavoidable work practice. This paper will go into depth about some of the risks that adult
film workers face, the prevalence of STIs in the adult film industry, whether or not the industry
should be regulated, and some potential policy implementations for the future health of adult film
workers. Every year up to 11,000 adult films are made in the US alone. It is a multi billion dollar
industry that employs approximately 75% women. In California, where most adult films in the US
are made, there are up to 1,500 adult film workers. There... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Only 3% of penile vaginal sex scenes and 9.5% of penile anal intercourse in heterosexual films
showed condom usage. In homosexual films, the researchers noted that 80% of penile anal sex
scenes showed condoms. In both homosexual and heterosexual movies, there was 0% of condom
usage for penile oral contact (Grudzen, et al. 2009). These statistics suggest that condom usage
among male homosexuals is more socially acceptable because of the higher prevalence of HIV in
that community. The low usage of condoms in heterosexual films also suggests that OSHA
compliance in the Californian adult film industry needs to be more heavily regulated (Grudzen,
et al., 2009). In 2004, there was a cluster of HIV infections in the Californian adult film industry.
Although adult film workers are supposed to voluntarily get tested monthly for HIV and other
STIs, there is still a window of time where the HIV virus is not detectable by test. It was during
this window that a man infected 3 female adult film workers with HIV. He had his monthly test
on February 12, 2004 and on March 17th, 2004 and was negative both times, yet he tested
positive on April 20th 2004. The adult film actor experienced a flu like illness while filming in
Brazil, but it resolved after he flew back. While he was back in the US, he had unprotected sex
with 13 women, and 3 of them later tested positive for HIV after testing negative the previous
month. Thankfully,

The paper is an analysis of the financial report prepared by the County of Santa Barbara. The
financial report contains all the details containing its financial activities for the year ended June
30 2015. The financial report has been prepared in accordance with the laws as established by
the state of California which require counties to submit a financial report for each financial year.
The current condition of the economy is further discussed using some tools that give additional
details about the financial report. In the accounts are some of fiscal issues that may arise.
However, for the sake of this essay, only three issues have been picked for further evaluation. The
issues picked for evaluation are of concern to the public and governments at both national and
regional levels. Santa Barbara County has witnessed economic growth in the last five years in
sectors such as real estate and tourism. Per the financial report, the future looks bright of the county
and its residents. The federal government is an interested party in the development agenda of the
counties and the role it plays in these activities of the regions is also evaluated.
Fiscal Policy Analysis Santa Barbara County
In the state of California, each county s authorities required by sections 25250 25253 of the
Government Code of the State of California to submit the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
(CAFR) after the end of their financial year (Stickney, Brown, Wahlen, 2007).

society has made much progress in the last 20 years. The mobile phone is a good example of this
change. Mobile phones are now the most widespread communication device replacing fixed line
phones, and their number is increasing dramatically every year. This essay will outline the major

Also, some teenagers use mobile phones to play games and to listen to music all the time and
do not pay attention to their studies. Such cheap and useless activities could be seen as a waste
of time and money. In this way, useful technology becomes the worst enemy of young people
and becomes a hindrance in their progress in this world of competition. In conclusion, the world
has changed greatly in the past 20 years and mobile phones are a symbol of this change. Whether
their development is positive or negative depends on how they are used. Of course, if individuals
choose to use them to improve and develop themselves, then they are a benefit. However, if they
are used only for gossip and games then they are not a benefit. Modern technology has provided a
brilliant tool to improve our lives but it all depends on the user and how he or she wants to use it.

Nike Economic Recession
In my opinion, if the sales volume were starting to suffer due to an economic recession, it would
be absolutely necessary to change the corporate strategy. This is particularly true if the recession
may have long term effects. One of the primary areas a recession affects in terms of products is
the price. The current corporate strategy adopted by Nike is clearly geared towards the higher end
of the market, and such a strategy may not be sustainable if consumers are searching for value in a
market recession. Therefore, a change in corporate strategy would involve cost cutting, either from
sponsorships or by reducing stores overheads. A change in the market, as significant as a recession,
requires a new strategy for organizations in ensuring

Analysis Of The Wild West
Western Identity The Wild West, in American history, is often thought of as being an ideology
filled with adventure and happy endings. This picture of the Wild West is largely in place due to
the romanticizing of the West by Hollywood. Movies portraying the West are filled with
stereotypes, whether they are purposeful or not, that do not accurately show what defines the
Western persona. Stereotypical situations such as Indians being depicted as savages and noble
sheriffs saving the day leave out certain facts that defined the Wild West. Many Indians were
betrayed and slaughtered by American citizens in the Wild West, as shown throughout Dee Brown
s novel, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. Red River, a popular movie with John Wayne about

To many miners, days seemed like years and months like decades. In addition to hardship in
mining, many Americans on the frontier experienced challenges in farming. At first it was difficult
for Americans to grow crops in the West, but eventually technology of agriculture was able to give
Americans the ability to grow crops more efficiently. Wild West was full of trials, and living in it
was certainly not an easy task. It is impossible to write about hardship in the Wild West without
talking about the hardship that Native Americans faced. The war on Indians by the United States
government focused on relocating all Native Americans to reservations so that Americans could
settle in more lands. For this reason, many Native Americans undoubtedly fought back against the
United States government. This led to violence and the slaughtering of Indians for which the Wild
West is known. One famous event concerning the Indian Wars was the Wounded Knee Massacre
.
Dee Brown described this event in her novel, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, saying that the
United States 7th Cavalry Regiment opened up on them, firing almost a shell a second, raking the
Indian camp, shredding the teepees with flying shrapnel, killing men, women, and children.
According to Brown, [o]ne estimate placed the final total of dead at very nearly three hundred of
the original 350 men, women, and children.

  • 2. 20th Century American Politics Over the course of the 20th century, the people located in what is now modern day Slovakia experienced immense political transformation. Before the end of World War I, the Slovakian people were part of the Austro Hungarian Empire. When the empire dissolved, two republics were formed creating Czechoslovakia until it too was dismantled by political demonstrations in the 1970s and 1980s. However, this volatile nature settled down when Slovakia became its own independent state in 1993. Though the state is relatively young, it is still an imperative component of the European Union today and this democracy is seen as functioning tremendously well nowadays. Slovakia s main political policy tends to focus around cultural issues, which has negatively impacted the nation state with periods of corruption and minority rights violations. However, since 2002, these concerns started to turn... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Politics is usually characterized by contests for and shifts of power signifying the desire of the people to place their sovereignty in the hands of responsible leaders. Such leaders devise political manifestos and promises of institutions to implement the ideal governance that is the people s craving. This underlies the diversity of political parties, opinions, institutions and other avenues that together define the longitudinal political climate of a state. Moreover, the differences constitute the myriad of systems that allow for comparison between countries based on the similarity or distinction of design systems. This comparison of Intra and inter country systems is the concept of comparative politics. The intra country comparison uses political calculation elements such as the effective number of political parties in the nation. In this light, this research presents the comparative politics of ... • 3. Dr. R. Jesse Tuck Ninety years have flown by since Winnie Foster first met the immortal Tucks in the woods. Jesse tuck now 194 years old, went in search to find his beloved Winnie Foster. If Winnie had drunk from the magical spring, she would still be alive today. Jesse was feeling distressed, he couldn t stop thinking about whether or not Winnie drunk from the spring. If she hadn t drunk the water it would be hard for Jesse to find someone who will be with him forever. Jesse was talking to a man at a restaurant and he had said that the woods where the spring lied had been bulldozed. If the man was telling the truth, this meant that no other girl would be able to live forever with Jesse Tuck. As Jesse left the restaurant on his motorcycle, he then arrived at the house Winnie Foster once lived in. As he made his way to the backyard he saw a gravestone under a tree. Jesse was startled to see a young girl approach the gravestone to lay flowers, he jumped behind a tree but he still caught the eye of the young girl. She had long, thick, wavy brown hair just like Winnie did. Her sparkling blue eyes and golden skin made Jesse wonder if that was his love Winnie Foster. Jesse came out from behind the tree and ran up and hugged the young girl. Winnie I found you! Jesse said relived Umm... sorry sir, my name is Aggie. Who are you? The young girl replied Sorry. • 6. Correlation Between Motivation And Achievement Brown and Wahlberg designed a study in which they intended to demonstrate an independent causal relationship between motivation and achievement (Brown Wahlberg, 1993). They purported to have devised a study with a randomized assignment of students to conditions eliciting different degrees of motivation (Brown Wahlberg, 1993, p. 134). The question for the researchers remained what is the effect of experimentally manipulated motivational conditions on elementary math scores (Brown Wahlberg, 1993, p. 133). The study remains a randomized quantitative mixed methods quasi experimental study of 406 heterogeneously grouped students in third, fourth and sixth through eighth grades in Chicago Public Schools (Brown Wahlberg, 1993). Three schools were selected to participate in the study. The student populations in each school were described as lower middle working class and predominantly Hispanic and African American (Brown Wahlberg, 1993). Respective of each school, two classes were randomly selected out of each grade level and randomly assigned to experimental groups. The participant groups were administered the Mathematics Concept subtest of the Iowa Basic Skills (ITBS) 1978, Levels 9 14. The ITBS was selected for its high reliability rating of 0.85 and its correlation with school curriculum (Brown Wahlberg, 1993). One group received standard testing instructions while the other group received an additional set of motivational instructions read from a script. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Where are we going? 1897 Oil on Canvas, 5 feet by 12 feet Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?, is the self acclaimed masterpiece of Paul Gauguins career. It represents the culmination of his ideas and beliefs that he acquired throughout his life as a painter. Many visual characteristics of the painting, such as the color, line, and light are unrealistic in nature, but serve to emphasize the tropical surroundings in which Gauguin loved to paint. Although the organization of the characters in this lush jungle clearing seem random, Gauguin intended this work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idol also represents a change in color tones from the rest of the painting. It has been painted in a light blue, similar to the coloring of background elements. According to Gauguin, this figure represents the beyond, which is emphasized by its close relationship in color to nature. (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston) Although the use of line and light is not as defined as the color scheme, they still play an important role in the overall organization of the painting. Gauguin uses curvilinear lines throughout this work with no right angles or sharp points. The outlines in the background are fairly blurry and some of the lines blend into one another. In contrast, the characters in the foreground are comprised of precise, sharp lines. Gauguin goes as far as lightly outlining the bodies with a dark line in order to give them a sense of depth. Light also serves to enhance certain aspects of the painting. Gauguin has been careful in his use of light to create some areas of brightness and some of darkness. The central figure glows in the bright light, which shines down on her from above. This light shows the importance of the decision of whether to pick the fruit or not. It is focused so directly on one area and is void in the others. The organization and relationships of the characters, animals, and background elements in Where do we come from? seem to be fairly unorganized and random, but Gauguin has placed them in this order consciously. • 8. The Republic, By Plato Essay In one of his most widely read texts, the Republic, Plato sets out to explore the very nature of the concept of Justice, the various forms it takes in the world, and its relevance to the lives of men. As Socrates states, it is about the way we ought to live (I 352d). The dialogue begins by introducing the commonly held view of justice, via Thrasymachus, Glaucon and Adeimantus, as the non performance of certain types of unlawful or antisocial acts. However, the entire treatise quickly moves on to concentrate on a different meaning of justice, as a form of moral virtue. He wishes to demonstrate that justice and moralityare interconnected because humans can only achieve a good life which he claims is the best way to live if they have those things that are desirable in themselves (II 357b). Therefore Plato s argument, as it sets out to prove the intrinsic value of living a just life, is neither deontological, nor consequentialist. In the Republic, Plato is arguing for the transcendent value of justice as a human good, or virtue, which informs and guides moral conduct. Plato bases his argument on a new and unique understanding of what justice is and how morally sensitive people are able to learn about the real nature of justice, morality and other virtues. He believes that it is necessary to grasp the true or intrinsic nature of certain virtues in order to make accurate judgements about the appropriate way to act in relation to others, justice and the collective good. ... • 9. Ivan Eyre Landscape And Still Lives Analysis Ivan Eyre is one of the most renowned artists of Manitoba. Born in Tullymet, Saskatchewan and moved to Winnipeg almost sixty years ago, Eyre s art is both surrealistic, modern and landscape portraiture. With his praire background Ivan Eyre has an unique approach of stills and landscapes with a remarkable sense of surrealism. His compositionally abstracts reflect on the decades he had created his art in; the colors, forms and themes are truly showing his particular taste and creativity. Landscapes and Still Lives is a smaller exhibition of eleven works by Ivan Eyre which are all in the permanent collection of the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Eyre s stills are well organized landscapes which seem to be a magnification of a surrealistic life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The viewer can learn about the times the artworks were created, the medium used and the inspiration of the artist. While some artworks only have a fragment of presentation it is easy to gather a generic idea about the influence of the artist. The public presentation are the words of the curator which is easily noticeable through the friendly tone of text. The intentions of the curator are well represented in the smaller and in the larger public reflections and the openness of the contexts makes it easy to understand these intentions. These intentions show the viewer the different sides of the artist which makes his unique art. The colors of choice in each painting seems unintentional however, is it? I believe every single art piece was carefully developed and well thought out. Ivan Eyre is an artists of passion and thought. He might have unconventional forms and themes, but his art is based on solid ideas. The whole exhibit supports how he chose his themes and how his past (and present) reflects on his artwork. It is absolutely impossible and almost foolish to try to define the singular meaning of Eyre s art. Landscapes and Still Lives is not only an exhibition of an artist it is an exhibition of prairie life, imagery, memories and an important part of Canadian art too. Andrew Kear wrote For Eyre, art excels when it discloses a world that is fundamentally private, irrational, and instructable even to the artist themself. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Comparing Mistakes In The Stranger And The Invisible Man When it comes to discovering a purpose in life, humans are able to do so by making and occasionally learning from their mistakes. In both The Invisible Man and The Stranger, both of the protagonists find the meaning of their own lives through a series of mistakes that lead them to a view changing epiphany There is a very popular saying in American culture that tells people to learn from their mistakes . In the case of humans finding their identities and realizing what their purpose is, mistakes are a good place to start looking. Evidence of this lies in The Stranger, where Meursault differed from everyone around him by taking of interest in all in bettering his life. Throughout the entirety of The Stranger, Meursault was given several opportunities to make a better life for himself, and rejected all of them, and though he did not see said rejected as a mistake, it most assuredly was. When his boss mentioned he was opening a business office in Paris and offered Meursault a job there, Meursault denied the offer, stating that people never change their lives, that in any case one life was as good ... • 13. Charles The Lamb Analysis In the two illuminations, a unity of appearance and attributes links Charles to the Lamb and sets in parallel the ways in which the earthly and heavenly rulers are honored. On facing pages, the Carolingian illuminators depicted parallel terrestrial and celestial ceremonies of the aurum coronarium. Just as Christ receives tribute in his heavenly court, so his terrestrial counterpart and reflection, Charles the Bald, receives homage in his earthly reign. The Lamb is in the dome of heaven; the king is under the baldachin s dome symbolizing heaven. Christ s exaltation in heaven is set against Charles imperial exaltation. This parallelism between terrestrial and heavenly rulers had been portrayed earlier in the diptych of Charles s Prayerbook (Figs. 6 7) and in the gable ivories of the Throne of Peter (Fig. 4). As Robert Deshman demonstrated, both the diptych and the ivories imply a concept of imitatio Christi (imitation of Christ) that exalts the ruler in his temporal office and likens him to Christ. In the Codex Aureus, the theme of Christ s triumph and exaltation has implications for the meaning of the exalted king represented on the opposite page. Charles s portrait as Christomimetes (imitator of Christ) not only enhances his status and authority among humans but it also conveys divine inspiration. The Carolingian king is to be considered the divinely appointed ruler on earth and the features of his portrait the baldachin and the hand of God support this image. The ... • 16. Gentrification In Brazil Gentrification takes place everywhere, in cities and suburbs across the globe. When upper or middle class families move into an area inhabited by those with lower socioeconomic standing rents increase, businesses close and lower income residents are forced to leave. Where once a local convenience store catered to the needs of the nearby working class, a posh new dance club adjoins a high priced sushi bar (Garcia Navarro). As a neighborhood grows more attractive to outsiders looking for an affordable place to live, locals are forced out of an area, a city, and often their jobs. This happens in urban areas all over the world, and one place where it has become particularly evident is the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. Thousands of tiny, cliffside houses surround the city, climbing up into the verdant hills, packed together like brightly colored sardines. These are the favelas, home to hundreds of thousands of the poorest people in Brazil. Many of Rio s favelas remain dangerous and unstable, but in the past several years the Brazilian government has begun a movement of pacification. Where once police would simply invade, battle a gang and withdraw, they are now permanently stationed to ensure the safety of neighborhood residents. Some professors would chose based on which publisher they favorites the most or had been loyal to in the previous years. Other professors wanted cheaper books so that their students would not be required to pay more and have a higher chance of actually purchasing the material. Another trend Lindsol analyzed was that most professors were unhappy with their book selection after purchasing the book and using it for courses because the material was either outdated or not relevant anymore with the school s curriculum. In order to enter the market successfully, Lindsol realized that it would be very difficult due to the fact that original editorial business model had been successful for forty years but had failed to stay current with today s technology. Crafting the Strategy Lindsol had to identify problems in the industry and realized that there were several core reasons students did not like the shift publishers made from hard copy to electronic PDF files. The main reasons collected by college student surveys was that the devices used to read the books were cumbersome to use, they lacked tools like highlighting, and they preferred having a physical hard copy of the books for them to take notes. There are two types of ways that nucleophilic reactions occur. There is the SN1 reaction and the SN2 reaction. An SN1 is a two step reaction that occurs when a molecule first forms a carbocation. Once the carbocation is formed, the nucleophile comes in and attaches to the molecule (2). Below is a general reaction scheme of an SN1 reaction: Below is the mechanistic scheme of SN1: In an SN2 reaction, it is a one step reaction and occurs when a nucleophile attacks a molecule and forces the leaving of a leaving group. Below is the mechanistic scheme of SN2: Reaction kinetics is the study of the rates of chemical reactions. From these chemical mechanisms, one derives the rate laws which will show how fast or slow a reaction is occuring and figure out if a first order or a second order reaction is occuring (1). The first order reaction is an SN1 reaction. A first order reaction has a rate proportional to the concentration of one reaction. A first order reaction formula will be : Rate =k[A] or rate=k[B] A second order reaction is an SN2 reaction. A second order reaction has a rate proportional to the concentration of both reactants. The formula is as follows: Rate=k[A][B] SN1 reactions proceed through a carbocation, the product is a racemic mixture of the substitution product which is a 50/50 racemic mixture. SN2 reactions do not form carbocation, but require the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Fifa Women s World Cup Essay Thirty million dollars, that s what the German National Soccer team made last year for winning the World Cup. The World Cup is one of the most prestigious accomplishments in any sport. The players in the World Cup are some of the hardest working, highest paid athletes in the world. These players are paid tremendous amounts of money by their club, their country, and FIFA. However this is not the only World Cup, on a different four year rotation is the FIFA Women s World Cup. The women in the World Cup are treated as inferior because of their gender in terms of payment, respect and also treated poorly by their own governing body. The FIFA Women s World Cup started in 1991 as a twelve team tournament. It has since expanded to a 24 team tournament that features tremendous athletic ability and intense competition. The United States has won the Women s World Cup three times, more than any other country, and is currently recognized by FIFA as the best team in the world. The Federation International de Football Association, FIFA, or in English the International Federation of Association Football, is the governing body of soccer and soccer related games, such as futsal and beach soccer. • 20. Unemployment And The Rate Of Inflation Unemployment and the rate of Inflation are two main problems faced by most economies around the world. Lower rates of each are sought after in order to create and maintain a more stable economy. Unemployment rate can be officially defined as a measure of the prevalence of unemployment and it is calculated as a percentage by dividing the number of unemployed individuals by all individuals currently in the labour force. The inflationrate is the percentage rate of change of a price index over time. The Retail Prices Index is also a measure of inflation that is commonly used in the United Kingdom. It is broader than the CPI and contains a larger basket of goods and services. By obtaining data for two countries, UK and France, on unemployment rate and CPI, which allowed me to calculate inflation rate and then further the change in inflation rate, I have been able to construct the table above. This table clearly shows the comparison between the two countries between the time period of 1970 2013. From this table I am able to create graphs to represent the data in an aesthetically pleasing format a picture says a thousand words. Firstly I will begin by discussing the unemployment rate graph. This line graph represents the comparison of the changes of unemployment rate data from 1970 2013 for the countries France and United Kingdom. At 1970 France s unemployment rate remains consistent for 4 years while the UK s rises slightly however generally during the 1970s the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Here at Halls Plumbers, we take pride in knowing that our customers are well informed before they begin this home repair project, so let s examine the top seven biggest myths that exist about your home s septic tank system. 1. There s no need to service a septic tank. In reality, septic tanks need to be emptied every two to three years depending on the capacity of the tank and the number of household residents. That being said, a septic tank system can typically last up to 30 years sometimes even up to 50 years. 2. A septic tank is more important than a drain field. Both are crucially ... Bacteria in the tank helps maintain a healthy environment for breaking down waste and replenishing effective volumes of bacteria. 5. No pumping is needed if you re using bacteria. Completely false. A tank must be emptied regularly once it is full bacteria or no bacteria. 6. Household cleaners are not really harmful to your tank system. Any chemical thrown into the septic tank system can kill beneficial bacteria if too much is discarded into the tank. 7. Garbage disposals, water softeners and large amounts of water can t harm the system. The truth is that the garbage disposal content increases solid waste before it can decompose. Water softeners and high volumes of water only add to the amount of waste water that needs processing. Moderation is the key here. • 23. Analysis Of `` Peace `` By Rupert Brooke Rupert Brooke, in his poem Peace addresses the value and honor of fighting in war. Brooke hopes to inform readers that war is a gift and that those who are able to fight should do so willingly, with great pride and honor. He adopts a passionate and serious tone in order to appeal to the feelings and experiences in his intended audience of young English males. Brooke challenges his intended audience by combatting their pessimistic beliefs of war. Brooke s sonnet Peace was written during an era of war. Different views and opinions about the war arose creating opposing ideas. Rupert Brooketakes an unpopular approach to the ideas and logistics of war, explaining that war is a solution and not a problem like most think. This sonnet celebrates what Brooke feels is his generation s great fortune to be born to fight in the First World War. He argues that it is a joy to be young and fit and able to fight for good in a world full of corrupt, cowardly men. He declares that the war has given the young a sense of freedom, and that to die in battle is a blessing to the proud and patriotic. Because young men posses the most suitable and efficient bodies and minds fit for war, they are Brooke s intended audience. Brooke aims to target young malereaders who are unaware or opposed to the benefits of fighting for their country. Young males prove to be the most valuable soldiers mentally because of their obedience and capacity for following and obeying orders. He speaks with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These days companies need to relate to their customers emotionally and logically. During Super Bowl I saw this Mercedes Benz C class commercial. It is called Perfect Harmony. In this Mercedes commercial, Mercedes tries to emotional branding with their consumers, as well as they are attempting to sell ready made identities. In the Mercedes Benz C250 commercial Mercedes is manipulating their consumers by selling them a ready made identity. This is explained by Douglas Rushkoff, who said that, Brands become more than just a mark of quality; they become an invitation to a longed for lifestyle, a ready made identity. What Mr. Rushkoff is trying to say is that, brands are not just a product or a mark of quality anymore. Brands have become a ready made identity, for instance, if an individual owns a Mercedes that individual considered as a successful and well doing in their life. • 26. The Prevalence Of Tommy John Surgery The prevalence of Tommy John surgery, reconstruction of the Ulnar Collateral Ligament in the elbow, in Major League Baseball pitchers has been growing significantly over the past fifteen years. This injury results from overuse of the elbow joints as a result of thousands of pitches over many years. According to Liu et al, an overall increase occurred in the number of UCL reconstructions performed on MLB pitchers from 1999 to 2014. No more than fourteen MLB pitchers underwent surgery in any one year between 1999 and 2005, but seven of the next nine years has seen the number surpass this mark, culminating in highs of 35 surgeries in 2012 and 30 in 2014. They also found a revision rate of 13.2% over the same time period, meaning that roughly one in eight pitchers who undergo Tommy John surgeryonce will likely require it at least one more time in their career. Furthermore, the total number of revisions from 2012 to 2014 (21) exceeds the total number of revisions from 2003 to 2011 (20) with no signs of this trend slowing down. This is significant because while receiving Tommy John Surgery once is not necessarily career threatening like it once was, receiving it more than once is far more likely to be so. According to doctors at Henry Ford Hospital, among pitchers who received the surgery more than once, only 65% returned to the MLB in any capacity and none of those pitchers were pitching more than three years after coming back (Verducci, Sports Illustrated). The reasoning behinds this is that it has a great symbolic meaning to it. The color symbolizes anything in the real world that has been tainted by the other world and is used to suggest really explosively emotional moments and situations. A scene that helps support this is when Cole was at the birthday party. Cole s red jumper at the kid s party, and the red balloon, both pre empt the ghost sobbing in the wall. It has also been said that the image of the balloon rising up towards the light through the center of the spiral staircase is representative of a spirit rising up towards God, with the staircase representing life s journey. The fact that Cole wears red here could be symbolic of his situation at this point: he is naive and uncertain, but is drawn to the voices nonetheless. Red is the color of the spirit world, and so by wearing it he is inadvertently drawing spirits towards him. Whenever Cole was scared he would run to the Church which had a big red door, or he would run to his sanctuary which was a red tent in his house. So, contradictorily, red is both a color of danger and ghosts, and of safety and refuge. I think the key to understanding this contradiction is in religion and all its contradictions and promises. Cole s understanding of religion is a simple one. He sees the church as a place to escape the spirits voices that are haunting him, and yet he enters possibly one of the most spiritual places ... Analysis Of Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, And Family Life Summary: Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, and Family Life Annette Lareau, author of Unequal Childhoods Class, Race, and Family Life, revealed her research findings in this enlightening text featuring twelve socially, economically, and culturally diverse families having a child nine to ten years of age respectively in their nuclear familyunit. These families were garnered from the author s coinciding study comprised of eighty eight children. Lareau, along with her research assistants, visited each family approximately twenty times. Visits included time spent within the home, as well as family events, school functions, doctor s visits, structured activities, shopping trips, and church services. Wide ranging contexts allowed researchers a unique opportunity to observe and record a multiplicity of interactions within each family unit. Exploring the nuances of race and social position beginning in childhoodand culminating in adulthood Lareau explores different approaches exercised by parents in raising children. Separating families into three categories, including: middle class, working class, and poor, the author began her study. Attempting to answer the question, What is the outcome of these different philosophies and approaches to child rearing? Lareau discovers that the answer was found in the transmission of differential advantages (Lareau 2011:5). Accordingly, these advantages equip children with tools to navigate through life progressively or prohibitively respective to the individual instruction obtained in childhood. In unearthing these discoveries, the author employed the use of ethnography through naturalistic observation utilizing field notes and taped recordings of interviews with family members. Poor and working class parents were found to hold to an accomplishment of natural growth parental philosophy. Natural growth promotes a clear separation between children and adults, employs the use of directives, places little emphasis on the importance of verbal communication and eye contact, allows children greater independence, and promotes deference and submissiveness to adults. Oneness in Walden, Nature and American Scholar Essay Oneness in Walden, Nature and American Scholar Some of the most prominent works which express a relationship between the individual and nature are undoubtedly Walden by Henry David Thoreau and the essays written by Ralph Waldo Emerson, specifically Nature and The American Scholar. In each of these works, an idea of wholeness, oneness, with nature is expressed. Thoreau and Emerson both believe that man, in order to live a full, happy life, must live in harmony with nature. Both writers share several ideas as to how this oneness with nature can be achieved, and its significance. Emerson, in his Scholar address, states that nature is the most important influence on man and his thinking. Because in nature there is no beginning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Emerson and Thoreau both urge people to go out and experience life for themselves instead of merely reading about it. Reading is necessary for growth, but one should not depend on it to change their lives; for that, they have to live simply in nature. In this way, to both authors, books seem to be a direct hindrance to achieving the wholeness that nature offers because reading keeps man from experiencing nature himself. Once they experience life s richness through nature, they are better able to develop spiritually and experience the divine. Emerson believed that man s mind is creative; he does not need only receive a sensory perception of God, but can actually create a consciousness of God. In creating this consciousness, man becomes god like. In this way, man can experience God, know God, not just know of Him, and realize a way of life that is better (more god like) than his own. Emerson believed that this ideal, this experiencing the divine, was possible through building a harmonious relationship with nature. Thoreau saw this ideal way of life in nature as well. He believed that the key to this spiritually rich, ideal existence was to simplify one s life. If one were to give up all unnecessary and materialistic ties, and live with the bare necessities (fuel, clothing, shelter, food) then one may spend more time concentrating on developing spiritually. ... Newman, there are five things that all school shooters have in common. At some point in their life, they were seen as different in some way, shape, or form. All shooters also suffer from some sort of depression. Because of the depression, they look to be problem solvers. They want to be known and get the glamour and street credit. They crave the power, status, and history. They feel as if the glorious feeling of death will cure the quiet, dark, and alone side that they have. The shooter also broadcasts their intentions and the attacks are never spontaneous. By giving little hints, they try to gain friends and keep the ones they have safe. They all want to have social status or revenge on a group that does not want them. (Newman). Although these reasons all make sense, it is such a broad spectrum of ideas and characteristics. There is no way of knowing the motive for a persons actions, especially if it is not being looked for or talked about. First, the name that groups all of them together is called; a central venous catheter. A PICC line is just one of many. It is described as a peripherally inserted central catheter; otherwise called PICC line. It is a long, thin, flexible tube that is inserted under the skin into a vein in the arm rather than a vein in the neck or chest. ( WebMD ). The purpose of the PICC is to give medicines, fluids and blood products over an extended period of time. Those with cancer, kidney disease, diabetes, Lyme disease and total parenteral nutrition or (TPN) are common reason that a PICC line could be used for. • 41. Tim Burton Influences Tim Burton the creator of a plethora of childhood films is in numerous of ways, so to say one of the best directors. The style of Tim Burton is very different to the regular fairy tales that people are used to. Often times the setting is dark and around someone different. One attribute that sets Tim Burton away from other directors is his influences from when he was a kid. Tim Burton uses many thoughts that some may call junk. However, he uses these tools to create a whole new image that he interpreted in a whole new way. Many of Tim Burton s works were often influenced by Dr. Seuss, Edgar Allen Poe, and Vincent Price. As Tim Burton uses editing for a myriad of his animated and stop motion projects it helps construct the vision of the pictures flow smoother and have a more desired effect that intrigues people. These effects can be seen in all films, however, better in some than others. We see excellent use of editing from Tim Burton in graphics and video quality to produce things look better and flow easier. Some examples of this, come in the movies of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory(2005) and Edward Scissorhands(1990). For example, we see that in Charlie and the Chocolate factory(2005) the editing plays a big role in what we think of the characters and our viewpoints of the characters simply by the editing and graphical imagery. Augustus Gloop, a fat boy with tiny eyes of German descent, to make the character Tim Burton used editing to create a child who was fat and animated to make an appearance that didn t hurt the casters feeling of being fat and unfit. Another example is in Edward Scissorhands(1990) we see the look of the town in a plastic and unrealistic and cheap way. The way that it looked showed how artificial and unlifelike the town really was. These examples show how animating and editing can greatly change how we see the image of a character or ... • 42. Example Of A Hero Of Brunhild Sigurd is an example of a hero who follows a strong moral and ethical code. The most prominent example of this occurs after he has rescued Brunhild from her castle for the second time while he is disguised as his friend Gunnar. At this point in the story, Sigurd no longer remembers his love for Brunhild because of a potion he was given. Therefore, he agrees to take the form of his friend so Gunnar can marry Brunhild. Sigurd clearly cares very much about doing the right thing and keeping the promise he made to Gunnar. In fact, Sigurd makes sure to place his sword between him and Brunhild when they sleep together. It can be argued that Sigurd was willingly being deceptive towards Brunhild, but this situation does show Sigurd s inner desire to be honorable by helping others and fulfilling his promises. Additionally, when Sigurd is able recall the fact that he loves Brunhild, it is his honor and recognition of the fact that she is someone else s wife that prevents him from acting on his feelings. Bakaridjan Kone is another example of a hero who takes pride in his moraland ethical code. He is even willing to die so that he may act in accordance with it. In the myth, Bakaridjan Kone makes the imprudent decision to boast that I am so strong that if I were to stamp one foot, so much earth would give way that the entire kingdom of Segu would be swallowed up! By strengthening the rules and procedures governing trade and investment, the NAFTA has shown to be a great base for adding to Canada s prosperity and has set a valuable example of the benefits of trade liberalization for the rest of the world. In Canada, NAFTA has helped to increase the imports of goods over the past decade in these fields: machinery and equipment, communications equipment, and automotive equipment. This has caused Canada s automotive industry to have a noticeable rise, allowing the economy to increase positively. Exports of goods from Canada have also grown significantly. Example being, in 1998, the increase in Canada s exports to the NAFTA regions was approximately equivalent to the entire value of our exports to Japan and to the 15 nations of the European Union combined. The power shift is prominent, shifting from the lords and nobles to the merchants of the middle class. The Age of Exploration has provided a framework for economic life around the world for several centuries while also shaping politics, social relations, cultures, and natural environments, changing the very nature of society. Of course the most important aspect of this modernistic convention would most certainly be the newfound relation between, capitalism and globalization and their effects on economic and political power. However some countries succeeded in their endeavour of international trade, while others did not. Europeans constructed and maintained their trade and territorial empires, whether through conquest, centralizing authority, religious conversion, commercial monopolies, or through conflict with other Europeans. Economics seems to be the most significant factor in the production line of human progress. There has been no event in history that did not involve an aspect of economy. The basis of commerce in the Age of Exploration, led to growth of international trade that would eventually lead to the Industrial revolution. These statistics suggest that condom usage among male homosexuals is more socially acceptable because of the higher prevalence of HIV in that community. The low usage of condoms in heterosexual films also suggests that OSHA compliance in the Californian adult film industry needs to be more heavily regulated (Grudzen, et al., 2009).
