Queen Hatshepsut Essay
Queen Hatshepsut
Hatshepsut was the longest reigning female pharaoh in Egypt, ruling for 20 years in the 15th century
B.C. She is considered one of Egypt s most successful pharaohs.
It is recorded that she was born sometime around 1508 B.C. Queen Hatshepsut ruled over Egypt for
more than 20 years. She was the only child born to the Egyptian king Thutmose I by his first wife and
queen, Ahmose, Hatshepsut was expected to be queen. After the death of her father at age 12,
Hatshepsut married her half brother Thutmose II, who has a different mother; a common practice
meant to ensure the purity of the royal bloodline. During the reign of Thutmose II, Hatshepsut
assumed the traditional role of queen and principal wife.

The Effects Of Facebook On Society By Yvette Vickers
The effects of Facebook on Society Yvette Vickers, a former Playboy playmate and Hollywood horror
movie star would have been 86 in this year, but nobody exactly knows how old she was at the time of
her death! According to the coroner s report, she was died for a long time ago before her neighbor
discovered her death. Her neighbor, Susan Savage noticed cobwebs in her windows and yellowing pile
of letters in her mailbox. She reached through a broken window to unlock the door and she reached
upstairs, she found Vickers s mummified boy near a heater that was running at that time. Near the
body, Vickers s computer was also running. The Los Angeles Times posted a story, which quickly
went viral throughout the country. Within two weeks, Vickers s lonesome death was already the
subject to thousands of Facebook posts and tweets. She had long been a horror movie icon, now she
was an icon of a different kind of horror, our growing fear of loneliness. Certainly she received much
more attention after her death than she did in the end years of her life. With no children, no religious
group, and no immediate social circle of any kind, she had begun to look elsewhere for
companionship. Vickers had made calls not to friends or family but to distant fans whom she found
through fan conventions and Internet sites. Though her web of connections had grown broader but it
was shallower, as has happened for many of us (Marche S. 2012). Vickers s death arises a question to

Research And Design Of A Experimental Design
Research and Design This study will use a true experimental design because it allows the researcher to
exercise better control over research variables. This design ultimately strengthens the inference of
causality. To prove with confidence that changes in the dependent variable were caused by the
independent variable rather than sampling error, the research design must meet three criteria
(Nieswiadomy, 2012). The three criteria are: 1) the researcher manipulates the experimental variable;
2) at least one experimental and one comparison group are included; and 3) the subjects are randomly
assigned to either group, (Nieswiadomy, 2012). A type of true experimental design is the posttest only
control group design. The posttest only design is appropriate for this study because the participants
will be randomly assigned to groups and will be given two different treatments, (Nieswiadomy, 2012).
The experimental group will receive clinically indicated replacement of their PIV while the
comparison group will receive routine PIV replacement every 72 96 hours. The posttest will include a
daily assessment for phlebitis up to 48 hours after removal. A randomized controlled clinical trial is
the most logical way to complete this study because it is concerned with a cause and effect
relationship using human subjects. This study cannot be blinded because of the nature of the
intervention. The patients and nursing staff will know after day four what group they are in. However,

Partition Of The British India
Partition of British India, 1947: The Partition of British India gave birth to two new states; India and
Pakistan. Pakistan comprised two geographically and culturally separated region: a) West Pakistan and
b) East Pakistan (Bangladesh) on basis of their common religion Islam.
Language Movement: Just after independence, Pakistan ruler with a key resolution at national
education summit in Karachi in 1947 began to exclude Bengalis, inhabitant of East Pakistan, adopting
Urdu as the only state language of then Pakistan which later elicited language movement in East
Pakistan. The declaration of Mohammad Ali Jinnah in Dhaka as Urdu and only Urdu will remain as
the state language of Pakistan and the reluctance of the successive rulers to recognize the mother
language of 56% people of the total Pakistan s population drew language movement to the street that
took its final shape on 21st February 1952. On this day, Salam, Rafique, Barkat, Jabbar, Shafiul were
the heroes who laid down their lives to establish Bangla as one of the state languages of Pakistan and
seeds of Bangladeshi nationalism was sown.
Election of 1954: Bangladeshi nationalism was first projected in 1954 election when United Front
coalition of East Bengal s (later named as East Pakistan in 1955) political parties Awami League and
the Krishak Sramik Party, won the most of the seats in the East Bengal Legislative Assembly. Muslim
League got only 9 seats out of 310. So, coalition govt. with Bengali leaders was

The speech I am analyzing was given by Barrack Obama, the president of the United States at West
Point on Troop increase in Afghanistan. The speech was delivered on first December 2008 in
Eisenhower Hall in West Point Military Academy in New York. The speech was delivered to the corps
of the United States, to the Americans and to the women and men of American armed forces. The
speech by Barrack Obama was about Americans effort in Afghanistan that is the nature of Americans
commitment in Afghanistan, the scope of the interests of the Americans and the strategy the American
administration will apply to bring the war in Afghanistan to a successful conclusion. The audience
represented people who are prepared to stand out for the security of the country and represent the best
about America. The speech addressed various issues with good sentence construction and good flow
of ideas. First it was important to remember the reason as to why America and its partners were
triggered to fight in Afghanistan from the beginning. He mentioned that America did not ask for the
fight since it started in 2011 when 19 men hijacked four plains and used them to kill three thousand
people. The men struck at America s military and economic nerve points taking the lives of innocent
women, men and children with no regard of their race, faith or station. And it was through the efforts
of the passengers on one of the flights that the plane did not strike one of American s symbols of
democracy in

Suicidal Ideation Research Paper
Suicidal Ideation is the manifestation of inner pain, hopelessness, and helplessness suffered by
individuals. Psychiatric disorders accompany 90% of completed suicides. Patients with alcohol or
substance use disorders also have a higher suicide risk. Years of abuse and comorbidity with
depression or antisocial personality disorder are also factors are associated with increased risk.
Assessment Individuals considering suicide generally provide some indication of their thoughts,
especially to people whom they perceive to be supportive of them. Nurses often fit into this category.
There may be overt or covert verbal clues and nonverbal signals. The nurse should be aware of
nonverbal behavioral cues like the patient giving away belongings or ... Show more content on

In 1964 Gerald Caplan identified four predictable phases of behaviors;
Phase 1
Initial threat or triggering event.; A person is confronted by a conflict or problem that threatens the self
concept responds with increased feelings of anxiety. The increase in anxiety stimulates the use of
problem solving techniques and defense mechanisms in an effort to solve the problem and lower
anxiety.
Phase 2
Escalation. If the usual defensive response fails and the threat persists, anxiety continues to rise and
produce feelings of extreme discomfort. Individual functioning becomes disorganized. Trial and error
attempts at solving the problem and restoring a normal balance begin.
Phase 3
Crisis; if the trial and error attempts to fail anxiety can escalate to sever and panic levels and the
person mobilizes automatic relief behaviors, such as withdrawal and flight. Some form of resolution
may be made in this stage.
Phase 4
Personality Disorganization; if the problem is not solved and new coping skills are ineffective, anxiety
can overwhelm the person and lead to serious personality disorganization, depression, confusion,
violence against others, or suicidal

Socrates Defense In The Apology
The Apology written by Plato, takes us on a journey of Socrates s trial. The City of Athens presented
charges accusing Socrates of impiety and for corrupting the youth of Athens. Socrates defensive
arguments take you on a trip, trying to show that the charges he s being charged with are absurd. He
goes on to defend himself by giving presumable facts as to why the prosecutors would want to
condemn him setting up the argument to automatically show that these charges are unjust. Socrates
then proceeds to address the charges brought against him addressed in the opening sentences. This
paper will confront the two methods of defense in succession.
The argument opens with Socrates telling the story of the prophecy given by the oracle at Delphi to

The Effect of Temperature on the Rate of Reaction Essay
The effect of temperature on rates of reaction
Aim:
The aim of this experiment is to find out if the reaction rate of sodium thiosulphate solution and
hydrochloric acid will be affected by a temperature change.
Prediction:
I predict that as a result of increasing the temperature of the sodium thiosulphate, the rate of reaction
will be faster. Because of the increase in temperature, the particles will gain more kinetic energy.
This will therefore cause them to move faster and produce more successful collisions, causing the rate
to increase.
Plan:
Na S O + 2HCl S + SO + 2NaCl + H O
Before carrying out the experiment, I must first of all begin the preliminary work. This part of the
experiment will enable me to choose an appropriate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will also make sure the apparatus is thoroughly cleaned before repeating the experiment. The only
thing I will be changing for each reaction will be the temperature.

Diluted 5/5 with water
Apparatus:
For the experiment I will use:
* Sodium Thiosulphate solution
* Hydrochloric acid
* Water
* A test tube
* A beaker
* A hot plate
* A thermometer
* A stopwatch
* A glass bottle
* Ice
Preliminary work:
From my preliminary results graph, I could determine how I needed to change the scale and
concentration of my experiment. Using 10cm of sodium thiosulphate, I quickly discovered that at 45 C
the reaction was too fast to measure and so for my scale to reach above that, I needed to dilute the
sodium thoisulphate. When I accordingly changed the concentration to 5cm distilled water and 5cm
sodium thoisulphate. I noticed that I would be able to conduct the experiment until 50 C because at 55
C it was only just measurable and this may be a source of error if I wasn t able to record the results in
time.
After analysing the data from my preliminary work, I decided to add in an extra temperature of below
room temperature at 10 C which would produce a more in depth experiment. I also cut out some
temperatures where the time taken for the black cross to be obscured was similar to other
temperatures. For example 35 C where there

Geographic Expansion and Profits of Financial Institutions...
Geographic diversification is a necessity for any financial institution interested in growing and
expanding. As financial institutions grow geographically, numerous issues may arise. Before any
expansion planning can be done, financial institution managers must make a determination on the type
of geographic expansion that best fits the financial institution and its goals. Making the correct
decision to further expand operations domestically or internationally is imperative to ensure success of
the expansion. Regardless of the breadth of the expansion efforts, financial institutions will face
increased risks, new regulatory environments, and potentially different cultural barriers. Outside of
these risks, however, is the issue of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For financial institution shareholders, diversification should be a consideration for several reasons
(Schmid Walter, 2012). For instance, financial institutions would want to expand geographically in
order to improve its competitive advantage and enhance its capital allocation position (Schmid Walter,
2012). Additionally, other considerations include improving efficiencies, taking advantage of
inequalities in exchange rates, and providing unified customer service across various geographies
(Schmid Walter, 2012). Although there are increased costs associated with expansions (information,
contracting, and regulatory), the benefits are seemingly compensatory and offset these (Schmid
Walter, 2012). Multinational banks, or those with physical operations in multiple countries, can also
benefit from an expansion of their operations geographically (Weller Hersh, 2002).
There are numerous benefits for financial institutions that seek geographic diversification,
domestically or internationally. For one, geographic expansions provide the opportunity for efficiently
operated organizations to extend the efficiencies across additional locations and more resources
(Berger DeYoung, 2001). The increases in efficiency can result in decreased costs for products
offered, greater revenues due to broader product offerings, or both (Berger DeYoung, 2001). For
example, improving network production through the joining of

Presidential Election Of The United States
After almost two years on the campaign trail, the United States of America has finally elected its new
president, Donald Trump. No that is not a typo, this is real life. It was a hard fought battle between
Hillary Clinton and the Donald which ultimately lead to one of the most shocking upsets in recent
American politics. Being that the odds were heavily stacked against Trump as poll after poll predicted
Clinton be the victor, it was to the astonishment of many that he reigned victorious during this 2016
presidential election cycle. Be it the will of the country (or in this case electoral college ) this
poisonous cheeto will now be the 45th president of the United States. So how did this happen, what
was it about Trump that pushed voter behavior in his favor in many key battleground states? Trumps
victory lies in the hands of the silent majority who at this point were dying for change and saw it
within the republican nominee. The biggest contributing factor to Trump s win on November 8 was
retrospective voting which a lot of voters clearly engaged in this election cycle. When making the
decision of who to vote for during an election, voters often tend to start looking within at their own
situation before throwing their support at a candidate. Questioning whether ones is better off now than
they were before the previous election is known as retrospective voting. This concept is the idea that
voters take into consideration factors such as the performance a political party ,

Analysis Of Rio De Janeiro s Most Infamous Favela
Rochina. This is the name of Rio de Janeiro s most infamous favela, where you have to pay the cops
to arrest criminals. Rio de Janeiro, or simply Rio, is the second most populous city in Brazil and the
sixth largest city in America; the city is known for holding hundreds of favelas where low income
residents reside. According to the findings of a 2010 census, about 22% of 6 million residents live in
the favelas of Brazil (Hurrell). These favelas are known for their brutality and crime rate among the
residents. The quality of life in the Brazilian favelas has in a way improved and also worsened. As

From the formation of these slums, the government never paid much attention to the welfare of these
residents. The members of these favelas began to work together to provide medical care, methods of
transportation and other necessities to one another. They lived in silence in the first half of the
twentieth century until they began to attract political attention near the second half of the twentieth
century. Due to the favelas being located near Rio s most affluent neighborhoods, the Brazilian
government attempted to eradicate the favelas. However, they failed to address the root causes of Rio
s poverty stricken areas and the favela population maintained their expansion unwaveringly through
the 1950 s, 60 s and 70 s. The government lost hope in the evacuation of the favelas and abandoned
their endeavor in the late 1970s.
In the 1980s, as the Brazilian government began to abandon military rule and establish democracy,
Brazil became the core of the international trade of illegal drugs. The vast change in Brazil s market
due to drugs is elucidated in this quotation, By 1985, not only had Rio de Janeiro become the country
s most important export node for drugs from the Andean regions to the United States and Europe, it
had developed a sizeable local consumer market for cocaine that had been virtually non existent in
prior years. The drug merchandise dominated by the numerous hoods in the favelas was also portrayed

Cats Purring Research Paper
Why do cats purr? This is a common question that most cat owners speculate on. Purring is a very
relaxing sound, usually associated with relaxation and content. Cats also demonstrate other strange
behaviors, such as kneading. How cats purr and knead can be very easily answered. However, what s
even more interesting is what these behaviors are rooted in. To find this out, scientists and researchers
must look at behaviors that are learned in kittenhood. For those that don t know, purring is a vibration
sound that cats make, usually when they are contented and happy. However, something that a lot of
people don t know is that cats also purr when they are sick or injured (International Cat Care). The
theory on this is that the vibration and frequency of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Purring, while mostly displayed when content, was also displayed in kitten hood to their mother to
show that they were ok (Why and how do cats purr?). Kneading first happens when kittens knead on
their mother to simulate the flow of milk (Why do cats...?). It can also be used to mark objects/humans
with their scent, as scent glands are present on the bottom of their paws (Why do cats knead?). Some
kittens continue kneading into adulthood, and some don t (Why do cats knead?). It isn t a bad thing,
just a learned behavior, as are all the others. There is so much more we can learn about cats and their
behaviors. What we do know is that a lot of seemingly weird things they do comes from learned
behaviors from kitten hood. Purring is a sign of content, but also a comforting mechanism when ill or
injured. Kneading was used to start the flow of milk in their mothers, but when they re older they don

Atrial Fibrillation and its inception are due to innovative health professionals who sought to treat their

Why Do Women Have It All Essay
How Women Can Have It All Gender inequality has always been an issue in our country, and many
kinds of literatures were written in regard to that problem. Two of those were: Why Women Still Can t

both Anne Marie Slaughter and Richard Dorment focused on discussing different problems, both
essays have a similar theme, which is the issue of how women have always been dominated by men in
workplaces and how women will overcome this obstacle. Both of the two authors give various
examples about the problems being faced by women. Anne Marie Slaughter uses some of the real life
situation to convey those problems. That includes when the author says, many struggle to find any job

they have (685). Slaughter mentions plenty of problems by women that does not usually seen by many

Fidel Castro And The Cuban Revolution
In 1959 Fidel Castro attempted to overthrow dictator Fulgencio Batista; Castro led a revolutionary
movement in a guerrilla war against Batista s forces. As anti Batista sentiment grew, Castro took a
leading role in the Cuban Revolution which eventually ousted the president. (Stevenson 118)Once in
power, Castro nationalized American property and because of this the United States diplomatic
relations with Cuba were cut in 1961. Even prior to the break in relations, President Eisenhower
agreed to a CIA backed plan to overthrow Fidel Castro. When John F. Kennedy was elected, he was
informed of the CIA s plan. The newly elected president, unfortunately approved of the plan to attempt
an uprising in Cuba against Fidel Castro. Before the Bay of Pigs invasion was developed; the United
States tentatively backed Castro, in hopes of keeping a good relationship with Cuba. During the short
lived time of alliance, Castro even visited the United States. President Eisenhower refused to even
meet Castro, instead he played a round of golf so not to see him at all. Before departing for Cuba,
Castro met with Vice President Richard Nixon. Privately, Nixon hoped that his talk would push Castro
in the right direction, and away from any radical policies. Nixon concluded that Castro was either
incredibly naive about communism or under communist discipline my guess is the former.

Julius Caesar Pride Quotes
John C. Maxwell once said Leaders who fail to prune their pride will meet demise. That s not a guess,
it s a guarantee. With pride, it s not a matter of if we will fall, but when. There are no exceptions. This
quote Maxwell says shows how influential pride is and how it can/will lead to someone s downfall.
Pride is a signal of destruction. This can be shown a lot throughout the play The Tragedy of Julius
Caesar by William Shakespeare. In the play, Julius Caesar shows his pride many times and this leads
to his demise. Examples include when he talks about threats, danger, and the northern star. Pride can
make people very stubborn, and when Calpurnia is trying to protect Caesar; he dismisses this.
Calpurnia has just told Caesar about a dream she has where she fears his death is near. Another time
he shows his pride is when he tells Calpurnia how these warnings of his death are nothing to be afraid
of. He says, The things that threatened me ne er looked but on my back. When they shall see the face
of Caesar, they are vanished (Shakespeare 26). This quote is saying how even though there are threats

Caesar compares himself to the northern star. Caesar believes he is stable, constant and has no equal.

Comparing The Birthmark And Rappaccini s Daughter
Reading both of Hawthorn works The Birthmark and Rappaccini s Daughter I thought both gave a

two. The story lines of both are similar considering both are dealing with a scientist that strives for
perfection and can t see the natural perfection in nature and humanity. Both scientists were willing to
put their loved ones on the line for science and perfection. In The Birthmark Aylmer did not see the
natural beauty in his wife Georgiana s birthmark as society did, he wanted to take it away and change
her into what he thought she should look like to meet his standards. Aylmer was willing to put his wife

Hawthorns Rappaccini s Daughter was not as clear of a story as The Birthmark , the interperatation
that I gathered in Rappaccini s Daughter was that Rappaccini, the father and scientist was too selfish
for his own good and put science above everything. Rappaccini treated his daughter Beatrice as if she
was a science experiment, while he conducted experiments on her that altered her personality. I
believe he did this not only to have control but also establish perfection, as that is the theme; as one
has control of another they have the ability to make a person perfect, or meet their standards. Both of
the stories also contained romance. In The Birthmark the romance made me a little irritated as Aylmer
is suppose to love Georgiana but cant accept the way she looks, so he chooses to change her to meet
his own satisfaction. But in reality and what I was hoping she would realize is there were so many

New England Colonies Dbq
Alex Pang Mr. Eliason AP United States History 7 September 2015 Behind its neighbors, England
finally decided to invest in settling in the New World during the 17th century. Many of the expeditions
to North America were made by private organizations; stock companies and the rich alike shared a
common ideal of having a fresh start from outside their homeland. Two colonies with one common
nationality, however, became two diverse establishments in North America. The colonies in New
England and the Chesapeake region developed into two substantially contrasting ways of life. The
main colony in the New England region was Massachusetts, which included the Puritans, a group of
religious settlers who wanted to purify the Protestant Church of England. ... Show more content on

The Puritanical colony of Massachusetts Bay was founded in 1630, and was born from the mindset of
purifying the Church of England. Most people who voyaged from their motherland were families and
their servants (Doc B). Lists of those who emigrated contain upwards of forty families. Also, in the
Articles of Agreement of Springfield, Massachusetts everyone shared the planting ground (Doc D).
Since the community shared most of the farmland, greed would not be an issue when deciding who
would get what plot of land. Further, Puritans believed we must entertain each other [with care, and]
must be willing to [bridge ourselves] . . . [to supply for] others necessities (Doc A). The community
theme the Massachusetts people embody is further seen in family relying upon family. Differing from
the New England list of emigrants, most Virginia bound colonists were men who failed to bring their
families or men who did not have families (Doc C). Many of the men aboard were jewelers,
goldsmiths, and other tradesmen who believed they were going to become wealthy at their new
colony. Captain John Smith recounts [many of the worst among us were gold seekers] with their
golden promises [and] made all men their slaves (Doc F). Encroaching on the Native American s land,
Jamestown settlers stole their land in hope of uncovering gold in the area. With community not being

Gender representation and in particular misrepresentation is a key issue within sport and media today
as female coverage of sport is overlooked in all forms of mainstream media. This issue is what we, as
a group of 3, had to tackle and present to our academic peers in a student led seminar session. The
issue derives from the main theme of sport and media and their relationship but could also be said to
have direct links to other themes such as sport and (in) equality. Gender representation comes under
both media and equality in terms of broader topics because it is the concern of the media to help
broadcast more female sport and raise awareness of the inequality which exists to the wide audience it
has to target, this doesn t happen enough currently. Research by Cooky et al. (2013) suggests that
female sports coverage on ESPN sport takes up around 3% of coverage time which is a shocking
disparity compared to men s coverage on the same channel. It also found that 0 news stories on
WNBA were published out of season across multiple news channels while the NBA had 72 stories.
Studying this topic is particularly important to understand historically and culturally why this problem
exists as well as to look at the negative ideologies which exist within sports media around the subject
of gender representation. One of the key sociological ideas which we introduced to our class mates
during the seminar was the concept of gender ideology, masculinity and how this impacts

Religion In Bollywood Movies
Significance of religion and Culture in Bollywood Movies
India is considered as the inception of the mythological genre of film. The first feature film of India,
Raja HarishChandra (1913) by Dadasaheb Phalke was the commencement of the explorations of the
mythological genre of films (Dimitrova, 2016). Bollywood movies have been considered as the richest
source of exploring religious and cultural values, (Dunmill. M 2007). Bollywood has produced several
movies and TV shows predicated on gods. Religion composed a very sensitive issue in the Indian
society. Hindu religion is the most commonly practiced religion in India, according to the 2011 census
(Shrivastava, 2015). Movies that are against the religious credences of the audience are considered
blasphemy or attack on the religious sentiments of the community (Qadri Mufti, 2017). Om Jai
Jagadish (2002), Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999) and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994) are some of the
movies that represented a typical Indian, Hindu family by utilizing traditional costumes and festival
celebrations. Dimitrova (2016) discussed the movie Lagaan (2001) and the portrayal of the religion,
Hinduism in the movie. The movie was predicated in the North Indian village, Champaner, which is a
part of the princely state in 1893 (Dimitrova, 2016). In the movie, British rulers are stereotyped and
represented as cruel, arrogant and superficial. British rulers imposed a tax on the Indian villagers.

It is important to have an understanding of Maxim, Will, and Duty to better understand the Categorical
Imperative theory. Maxim is a subjective principle of volition; Kant believed that when people were
doing something, they always followed the general principle. For example, if one person needed to
borrow some money from his friend, and he knows that he was not able to pay it back. However, he
still borrowed that money from his friend. In this time, the general principle is that whenever I need
money, I can borrow it from the others, even though I know that I would not give it back. So that
people would follow this general principle under the same situation if they argue with it. Also, the will
means what makes a good man good is the will to have a decision that is decided by universal moral
law in some way. Besides, the last one is the duty, according to Kant s theory; he believed that self
interest and motivation are different; how people act from the respect of the universal law would make
a good will. In another word, the theory of duty is a person with the capacity to act morally to
universal law. Furthermore, to better illustrate Kant s theory there is no better way than comparing the
differences between that with rule utilitarianism. The principle of utility is the greatest amount of good
for the greatest number. , which is also called consequentialism; the moral behavior

To add up with my conversation, I move on to communication skills management. An effective
communication by laymen terms makes easy way of transforming the message without change in
actual desired motive. The empirical research reveals, many people are brilliant in ideas and
methodologies, due to lack of communication may lead to false interpretation and not impressively
proficient (Deacon,1997; Hauser,1996).I think, this is well observed during our poster presentation.
Previously, we are not aware of how to present the poster which is little different from group tasks.

Racist Beauty Standards
In this novel, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, the author depicts a culture in which white people and
white lifestyles are idealized and the standards for beauty are very generalized around whites. In this
novel, the author questions the truths by which white standards of beauty are held and depicts the
impact and growth it has on her characters and the long term effects of these beauty standards .
Claudia was much better able to handle rejecting the white, middle class America s standards of
beauty. Claudia and Pecola are similar in the sense that they both suffered from racist beauty standards
and abuse growing up. However, Claudia was always the stronger of the two and did not feed into the
standards of beauty set in her society. Frankly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

s perspective shows her distaste for Shirley temple and Pecola and Frieda s love for her. Pecola
becomes so obsessed with the Shirley Temple cup that she drinks milk in excess just to use the cup
with her on it. Pecola is particularly fascinated by Shirley Temple s big blue eyes. Pecola after a life
time of obvious abuse, belittlement, and racist has very low self esteem and wants to be everything she
is not. She strongly connects beauty with desire and love, she starts to believe that if she had blue
eyes, all the cruelty and hatred she gets in her life, would disappear. This unrealistic and hopeless
desire for blue eyes, eventually leads to immeasurable madness. It had occurred to Pecola some time
ago that if her eyes, those eyes that held the pictures, and knew the sights if those eyes of hers were
different, that is to say, beautiful, she herself would be different (Morrison, 46). Pecola is finally
granted her overwhelming want for blue eyes. When she is finally granted her wish for blue eyes, she
receives it in a perverse and darkly ironic form. She is only able to be granted blue eyes in exchange
for her sanity. Pecola loses her mind and ultimately her insight into the outside

The Trash Sample
Within the trash sample I analyzed there were around 234 items thrown away within a week s period.
Many of the items thrown away were thrown away in pairs suggesting that two people live in the
dwelling that the sample was taken in. Some examples of items thrown away in pairs include,
Starbucks cups, church bulletins, and Bounty paper towels. Bounty paper products, napkins and paper
towels, show up on the record 24 times, suggesting that Bounty paper products are used over three
times per day, corresponding with meals. Other brands that show up in the sample often include Green
Giant, four times, Kroger Brand, twelve times. Within the Kroger brand items there are six plastic
ziploc bags, this suggests that the people who live in this home either take their lunch to work or
school, or pre package their snacks at home into serving sizes. The two church bulletins, and church
offering envelopes, suggest that both members of the household went to church once the week they
took their trash sample. Another interesting item thrown away was an old Tommy Hilfiger brand shirt.
The members of this household make enough money to throw away old clothes, suggesting that they
live comfortably. We also can tell what bank they use because they threw away a check box from
Regions bank. There was a lot of first aid items in the trash sample as well multiple boxes of bandages
and a box of non stick gauze pads this suggests that someone in the home had a wound that needed to

The Qualities Of Brando s Acting
Both authors examined the qualities of Brando s acting that made his acting memorable. Neves
investigated Brando s acting style in the 1954 film On The Waterfront. Neves delved into how Brando
s method acting approach strengthened his role and focused on the psychological complexity Brando
gave to the character. Whereas Krasner wrote about Brando s role in the 1951 film A Streetcar Named
Desire and explored specific details in his acting technique, such as his usage of mumbling and his
rebellious wardrobe choices. Neves points proved to be the strongest, with his extremely in depth
analysis and use of psychology to explain Brando s character s actions. In the future, historians could
analyze how Brando s acting improved and became more memorable as he became older. Altogether,
there were many reasons for Brando s memorability, as shown by Neves arguments that the method
style enhanced his acting, and as shown in Krasner s arguments that precise details in his acting made
him memorable, and further information on his memorability could be gained by studying how his
acting became better over time.
Neves addressed the question of Brando s memorability by examining his acting in the 1954 movie
On The Waterfront. Neves uses hearings by Elia Kazan (director of On the Waterfront) by the House
Committee of Un American Activities as a primary source. This source was useful because it allowed
Neves to gain information on the film s background, in the director s own words.

What Is Discrimination In Cultural Discrimination
Many Hispanics in the United States have been discriminated and it is a serious problem. About half
of Hispanics in the U.S. (52%) say they have experienced discrimination or have been treated unfairly
because of their race or ethnicity , according to a newly released Pew Research Center Survey on race
in America. For example, I was working at Food 4 Less helping Spanish speaking customers when I
was only able to speak English to them. My fellow work members from a distance were looking at
me, most likely talking behind my back. I would go ask for another coworker who is able to speak
Spanish to help out my customer, but I Mexican and I was supposed to be able to speak Spanish. Since
I am not able to a lot of the Mexican workers say a lot of mean things behind my back in Spanish or
when they are right next to me. What they don t know is I am able to understand what they are saying.
I don t know how to speak Spanish, but I can understand Spanish very well. I was born in America,
but my parents were born in Mexico and came here to the United States legally. I was just never able
to get the hang of speaking Spanish just understanding the basic parts of it. I have been personally
discriminated by other Latinos, not African Americas or Americas during my work. African Americas
are the number one race to get discriminated by in the work when Latinos are coming in second at

Inborn Errors Of Metabolism
Inborn Errors of Metabolism are group of rare disorders characterized by metabolic pathways
abnormalities leading to underproduction of necessary metabolites. One such disorder is Maple Syrup
Urine Disease (MSUD) otherwise known as Branched chain Ketoaciduria, a dangerous condition in
which over saturation of amino acids in the blood can lead to toxicity progressing to encephalopathy,
neurodegeneration, coma or respiratory failure. the etiology of the genetic disease, the mechanism of
the genetic disease (if known) MSUD results from a malfunction of the branched chain alpha ketoacid

Detection of the disease is first identified via clinical symptomatology namely: smell of maple syrup

birth , movements resembling fencing or bicycling present four to five days after birth, coma or
respiratory failure by day seven or ten after birth. To diagnose the disorder within the first couple of

branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) and allo isoleucine can be checked within the first day after the
infant had an intake of protein. During BCAA testing leucine levels are most important to note as they
will be elevated in MSUD, while isoleucine and valine could be non specific. Allo isoleucine is the
more definitive indicator of MSUD. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK1319/). An increase in
leucine leads to a decreased in other amino acids such as: tryptophan, histidine, glutamine, glutamate,
alanine, tyrosine. Testing for the levels of these amino acids along with BCAAs could indicate that the

AID paid for the building of eighteen warehouses, but five were not built, three were not finished,
three collapsed, two had their roofs blown off, and three more quickly crumbled owing to serious

nine were actually improved. A hundred mills for grinding grain were to be constructed; the project

How to Measure Social Culture and Organizational Culture...
Introduction
How to measure social culture and organizational culture of one country is an important issue
(Miroshnik, 2002). Culture can be defined as the way of life of the group of people, which includes
beliefs, art, law, morals, customs, and any capabilities and habits acquired by a man as a member of
society, and enables people to communicate with others, provides the knowledge and skill necessary,
and anticipates how others in society are likely to respond for the actions (Miroshnik, 2002).
In other hand, managers frequently view culture as the collective programming of the mind which

For examples, Indonesians avoid admitting lack of knowledge, inability to complete something, or

Indonesians are polite people. Upon meeting and leaving, it is usual to shake hands with both men and

because it is regarded as the unclean hand. It is also rude to point someone with a finger (Makmur,
2002). The fact is Indonesian cultural values do not adapt or include some of the elements in the

Economic Traditionalism As The Antithesis Of Economic...
Economic traditionalism is essentially the antithesis of modern capitalism. Within this framework,
work was viewed as a necessary evil (Kalberg 2011a: p. 418). It was simply the means through which
people acquire the economic needs necessary for survival. Therefore, work and money did not take
precedence over one s family, community, and leisure. The tasks themselves were based on custom
and tradition, and were independent of the individual himself. That is, work did not constitute one s
self identity. Luther was an extreme proponent of this ideology. He was suspicious of wealth and
asserted that money should only be enough to live a life of integrity. Weber ([1905] 2011) describes
Luther s reservation:
Luther was convinced that people of every status can become saved...Therefore, the striving for
material gain that goes beyond one s own needs, Luther argues, must be a symptom of one s lack of
grace. Indeed, because striving for gain appears to be possible only at the expense of others, this
pursuit must be viewed as an unequivocal abomination. (P. 103)
Thus, Luther was critical of those who utilized work to feed their avarice. Instead, asceticism was
highly valued; as people were advised to renounce gluttony and avoid succumbing to their physical
and sensual pleasures. Luther was also wary of those who attempted to venture outside of their calling.
This was viewed as tinkering with God s will and undermining His plan for the individual s salvation.
Therefore, the

Essay on Fiscal Policy
Fiscal Policy can be explained in many ways, for example. Fiscal policy is the use of the government
budget to affect an economy. When the government decides on the taxes that it collects, the transfer
payments it gives out, or the goods and services that it purchases, it is engaging in fiscal policy. The
primary economic impact of any change in the government budget is felt by particular groups a tax cut
for families with children, for example, raises the disposable income of such families. Discussions of
fiscal policy, however, usually focus on the effect of changes in the government budget on the overall
economy on such macroeconomic variables as GNP and unemployment and inflation.

This policy involves increasing government spending and cutting taxes, in order to spur economic
output. But if the government decides they need to do the opposite the government may adopt
concretionary fiscal policy. This involves a reduction in government spending and an increase in taxes
when faced with an overheating economy. But these actions, may have other effects in the economy.
For instance, and expansionary fiscal policy may lead to the crowding out of investment.
Like every other government controlled organization there is a group of people who are control of
Fiscal Policy. There is a Council of Economics. These men are called Council of Economic Advisors.
In the Council of Advisors there are three people. There is a Chairmen and two members. Even though
there are not a lot of people in this council it is a very important council. These three men are very

Analysis Of George A. Romero s Gory Film Land Of The Dead
George A. Romero s gory film Land of the Dead was released June 2005. Jonathan Levine s Warm
Bodies on the other hand has a scientific fiction undertone, and was released February 2013. Lately
pop culture has had an interest in zombies. Both films chosen have a set contemporary standard of
what a typical zombie is imagined to be. Whether created by supernatural sources or acquired by a
virus, zombies are dead humans that now have the reincarnated mindset of instinctively hunting down
and devouring the living. Those wounded by a zombie, become zombies themselves. Warm Bodies
leans more towards the romance and comedy rather than horror. Whilst remaining true to the ideal
zombie, the envelope is pushed with the unexpected direction that ... Show more content on

This becomes particularly clear when we are introduced to the Bonies, who were once zombies like R
but lost their hope. When they lose their hope they peel away their own skin, the last vestiges of their
humanity, and will be unable to connect again. R even mentions how they will eat anything with a
beating heart, much like himself, but he feels conflicted about it. Bonies are automatically set up as
the antithesis of everything the movie stands for. They are the perfect villains and foils for the corpses
and humans. In Romero s Land of the Dead, zombies have taken over the world and the loose ends of
humanity live within the confines of a city that is bordered on two sides by rivers and a manmade
fence on the third side. Zombies are beginning to evolve and slowly learning how to manipulate
objects and their surroundings. The plots are a bit predictable filled with pure terror and gore opposing
Warm Bodies. While everybody else is merely set on survival, Julie is still hoping for a cure, still
considers it a possibility. Like R, she is looking for something, and wants more. She is unique in her
own crowd of zombies. The very next scene parallels the survivors with the zombies. The group of
survivors set out onto the streets looking for what they need, and it intercuts with scenes of the
zombies doing the same. They are more alike than they are different. In seeing the connected hands,

than $500.(14). As a result of non uniform drug plans in some provinces, seniors must pay a
copayment, i.e. the portion of prescription that is paid every time a prescription is filled. while in other
provinces seniors must pay an annual premium where as some have combinations of both copayments
and premiums .(14) Canada is a fast aging society , in which it Is common for a senior to developed a
chorionic medical condition which would increase their drug intake . It s normal for a senior to have
an average intake of 12 14 drugs a day (15).according to a recent static Canada survey, prescription
drugs make up 27.3% of out of pocket spending for senior households (16).and yet many candies
underestimate the cost of their treatments in senior age. The average $500 dollars that every household
with at least one senior spends does not cover the cost of these expensive treatments for serious
illnesses. Beside these expenses on medications mobility aids are also a common expense for seniors
which may cost up to $10,000 and in Ontario alone only 76% of these cost are covered as long as they
are prescribed by a health professional, and the other 25% are to rely on charitable groups or their long
time saving plans, which in this case would not last

She is considered one of Egypt s most successful pharaohs. It is recorded that she was born sometime around 1508 B.C. Queen Hatshepsut ruled over Egypt for more than 20 years. After the death of her father at age 12, Hatshepsut married her half brother Thutmose II, who has a different mother; a common practice meant to ensure the purity of the royal bloodline. • 3. The Effects Of Facebook On Society By Yvette Vickers The effects of Facebook on Society Yvette Vickers, a former Playboy playmate and Hollywood horror movie star would have been 86 in this year, but nobody exactly knows how old she was at the time of her death! According to the coroner s report, she was died for a long time ago before her neighbor discovered her death. Her neighbor, Susan Savage noticed cobwebs in her windows and yellowing pile of letters in her mailbox. She reached through a broken window to unlock the door and she reached upstairs, she found Vickers s mummified boy near a heater that was running at that time. Near the body, Vickers s computer was also running. The Los Angeles Times posted a story, which quickly went viral throughout the country. Within two weeks, Vickers s lonesome death was already the subject to thousands of Facebook posts and tweets. She had long been a horror movie icon, now she was an icon of a different kind of horror, our growing fear of loneliness. Certainly she received much more attention after her death than she did in the end years of her life. With no children, no religious group, and no immediate social circle of any kind, she had begun to look elsewhere for companionship. Vickers had made calls not to friends or family but to distant fans whom she found through fan conventions and Internet sites. Though her web of connections had grown broader but it was shallower, as has happened for many of us (Marche S. 2012). Vickers s death arises a question to all does social media ... • 4. Research And Design Of A Experimental Design Research and Design This study will use a true experimental design because it allows the researcher to exercise better control over research variables. This design ultimately strengthens the inference of causality. To prove with confidence that changes in the dependent variable were caused by the independent variable rather than sampling error, the research design must meet three criteria (Nieswiadomy, 2012). The three criteria are: 1) the researcher manipulates the experimental variable; 2) at least one experimental and one comparison group are included; and 3) the subjects are randomly assigned to either group, (Nieswiadomy, 2012). A type of true experimental design is the posttest only control group design. The posttest only design is appropriate for this study because the participants will be randomly assigned to groups and will be given two different treatments, (Nieswiadomy, 2012). The experimental group will receive clinically indicated replacement of their PIV while the comparison group will receive routine PIV replacement every 72 96 hours. The posttest will include a daily assessment for phlebitis up to 48 hours after removal. A randomized controlled clinical trial is the most logical way to complete this study because it is concerned with a cause and effect relationship using human subjects. This study cannot be blinded because of the nature of the intervention. The patients and nursing staff will know after day four what group they are in. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pakistan comprised two geographically and culturally separated region: a) West Pakistan and b) East Pakistan (Bangladesh) on basis of their common religion Islam. Language Movement: Just after independence, Pakistan ruler with a key resolution at national education summit in Karachi in 1947 began to exclude Bengalis, inhabitant of East Pakistan, adopting Urdu as the only state language of then Pakistan which later elicited language movement in East Pakistan. The declaration of Mohammad Ali Jinnah in Dhaka as Urdu and only Urdu will remain as the state language of Pakistan and the reluctance of the successive rulers to recognize the mother language of 56% people of the total Pakistan s population drew language movement to the street that took its final shape on 21st February 1952. On this day, Salam, Rafique, Barkat, Jabbar, Shafiul were the heroes who laid down their lives to establish Bangla as one of the state languages of Pakistan and seeds of Bangladeshi nationalism was sown. Election of 1954: Bangladeshi nationalism was first projected in 1954 election when United Front coalition of East Bengal s (later named as East Pakistan in 1955) political parties Awami League and the Krishak Sramik Party, won the most of the seats in the East Bengal Legislative Assembly. The audience represented people who are prepared to stand out for the security of the country and represent the best about America. The speech addressed various issues with good sentence construction and good flow of ideas. First it was important to remember the reason as to why America and its partners were triggered to fight in Afghanistan from the beginning. He mentioned that America did not ask for the fight since it started in 2011 when 19 men hijacked four plains and used them to kill three thousand people. The men struck at America s military and economic nerve points taking the lives of innocent women, men and children with no regard of their race, faith or station. In 1964 Gerald Caplan identified four predictable phases of behaviors; Phase 1 Initial threat or triggering event.; A person is confronted by a conflict or problem that threatens the self concept responds with increased feelings of anxiety. The increase in anxiety stimulates the use of problem solving techniques and defense mechanisms in an effort to solve the problem and lower anxiety. Phase 2 Escalation. If the usual defensive response fails and the threat persists, anxiety continues to rise and produce feelings of extreme discomfort. Individual functioning becomes disorganized. Trial and error attempts at solving the problem and restoring a normal balance begin. The City of Athens presented charges accusing Socrates of impiety and for corrupting the youth of Athens. Socrates defensive arguments take you on a trip, trying to show that the charges he s being charged with are absurd. He goes on to defend himself by giving presumable facts as to why the prosecutors would want to condemn him setting up the argument to automatically show that these charges are unjust. • 9. The Effect of Temperature on the Rate of Reaction Essay The effect of temperature on rates of reaction Aim: The aim of this experiment is to find out if the reaction rate of sodium thiosulphate solution and hydrochloric acid will be affected by a temperature change. Prediction: I predict that as a result of increasing the temperature of the sodium thiosulphate, the rate of reaction will be faster. Because of the increase in temperature, the particles will gain more kinetic energy. This will therefore cause them to move faster and produce more successful collisions, causing the rate to increase. Plan: Na S O + 2HCl S + SO + 2NaCl + H O Before carrying out the experiment, I must first of all begin the preliminary work. This part of the experiment will enable me to choose an appropriate ... • 10. * A glass bottle * Ice Preliminary work: From my preliminary results graph, I could determine how I needed to change the scale and concentration of my experiment. Using 10cm of sodium thiosulphate, I quickly discovered that at 45 C the reaction was too fast to measure and so for my scale to reach above that, I needed to dilute the sodium thoisulphate. When I accordingly changed the concentration to 5cm distilled water and 5cm sodium thoisulphate. I noticed that I would be able to conduct the experiment until 50 C because at 55 C it was only just measurable and this may be a source of error if I wasn t able to record the results in time. After analysing the data from my preliminary work, I decided to add in an extra temperature of below room temperature at 10 C which would produce a more in depth experiment. I also cut out some temperatures where the time taken for the black cross to be obscured was similar to other temperatures. For example 35 C where there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Geographic Expansion and Profits of Financial Institutions... Geographic diversification is a necessity for any financial institution interested in growing and expanding. As financial institutions grow geographically, numerous issues may arise. Before any expansion planning can be done, financial institution managers must make a determination on the type of geographic expansion that best fits the financial institution and its goals. Making the correct decision to further expand operations domestically or internationally is imperative to ensure success of the expansion. Regardless of the breadth of the expansion efforts, financial institutions will face increased risks, new regulatory environments, and potentially different cultural barriers. Outside of these risks, however, is the issue of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For financial institution shareholders, diversification should be a consideration for several reasons (Schmid Walter, 2012). For instance, financial institutions would want to expand geographically in order to improve its competitive advantage and enhance its capital allocation position (Schmid Walter, 2012). Additionally, other considerations include improving efficiencies, taking advantage of inequalities in exchange rates, and providing unified customer service across various geographies (Schmid Walter, 2012). Although there are increased costs associated with expansions (information, contracting, and regulatory), the benefits are seemingly compensatory and offset these (Schmid Walter, 2012). Multinational banks, or those with physical operations in multiple countries, can also benefit from an expansion of their operations geographically (Weller Hersh, 2002). There are numerous benefits for financial institutions that seek geographic diversification, domestically or internationally. For one, geographic expansions provide the opportunity for efficiently operated organizations to extend the efficiencies across additional locations and more resources (Berger DeYoung, 2001). The increases in efficiency can result in decreased costs for products offered, greater revenues due to broader product offerings, or both (Berger DeYoung, 2001). For example, improving network production through the joining of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Presidential Election Of The United States After almost two years on the campaign trail, the United States of America has finally elected its new president, Donald Trump. No that is not a typo, this is real life. It was a hard fought battle between Hillary Clinton and the Donald which ultimately lead to one of the most shocking upsets in recent American politics. Being that the odds were heavily stacked against Trump as poll after poll predicted Clinton be the victor, it was to the astonishment of many that he reigned victorious during this 2016 presidential election cycle. Be it the will of the country (or in this case electoral college ) this poisonous cheeto will now be the 45th president of the United States. So how did this happen, what was it about Trump that pushed voter behavior in his favor in many key battleground states? Trumps victory lies in the hands of the silent majority who at this point were dying for change and saw it within the republican nominee. The biggest contributing factor to Trump s win on November 8 was retrospective voting which a lot of voters clearly engaged in this election cycle. When making the decision of who to vote for during an election, voters often tend to start looking within at their own situation before throwing their support at a candidate. Questioning whether ones is better off now than they were before the previous election is known as retrospective voting. This concept is the idea that voters take into consideration factors such as the performance a political party , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They lived in silence in the first half of the twentieth century until they began to attract political attention near the second half of the twentieth century. Due to the favelas being located near Rio s most affluent neighborhoods, the Brazilian government attempted to eradicate the favelas. However, they failed to address the root causes of Rio s poverty stricken areas and the favela population maintained their expansion unwaveringly through the 1950 s, 60 s and 70 s. The government lost hope in the evacuation of the favelas and abandoned their endeavor in the late 1970s. In the 1980s, as the Brazilian government began to abandon military rule and establish democracy, Brazil became the core of the international trade of illegal drugs. The vast change in Brazil s market due to drugs is elucidated in this quotation, By 1985, not only had Rio de Janeiro become the country s most important export node for drugs from the Andean regions to the United States and Europe, it had developed a sizeable local consumer market for cocaine that had been virtually non existent in prior years. • 15. Cats Purring Research Paper Why do cats purr? This is a common question that most cat owners speculate on. Purring is a very relaxing sound, usually associated with relaxation and content. Cats also demonstrate other strange behaviors, such as kneading. How cats purr and knead can be very easily answered. However, what s even more interesting is what these behaviors are rooted in. To find this out, scientists and researchers must look at behaviors that are learned in kittenhood. For those that don t know, purring is a vibration sound that cats make, usually when they are contented and happy. However, something that a lot of people don t know is that cats also purr when they are sick or injured (International Cat Care). The theory on this is that the vibration and frequency of the ... Some kittens continue kneading into adulthood, and some don t (Why do cats knead?). It isn t a bad thing, just a learned behavior, as are all the others. Two of those were: Why Women Still Can t Have It All by Anne Marie Slaughter and Why Men Can t Have It All by Richard Dorment. Both of the two authors give various examples about the problems being faced by women. Anne Marie Slaughter uses some of the real life situation to convey those problems. With pride, it s not a matter of if we will fall, but when. There are no exceptions. This quote Maxwell says shows how influential pride is and how it can/will lead to someone s downfall. Pride is a signal of destruction. This can be shown a lot throughout the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. In the play, Julius Caesar shows his pride many times and this leads to his demise. Examples include when he talks about threats, danger, and the northern star. Pride can make people very stubborn, and when Calpurnia is trying to protect Caesar; he dismisses this. Calpurnia has just told Caesar about a dream she has where she fears his death is near. Another time he shows his pride is when he tells Calpurnia how these warnings of his death are nothing to be afraid of. He says, The things that threatened me ne er looked but on my back. Both scientists were willing to put their loved ones on the line for science and perfection. Hawthorns Rappaccini s Daughter was not as clear of a story as The Birthmark , the interperatation that I gathered in Rappaccini s Daughter was that Rappaccini, the father and scientist was too selfish for his own good and put science above everything. Rappaccini treated his daughter Beatrice as if she was a science experiment, while he conducted experiments on her that altered her personality. I believe he did this not only to have control but also establish perfection, as that is the theme; as one has control of another they have the ability to make a person perfect, or meet their standards. Both of the stories also contained romance. In The Birthmark the romance made me a little irritated as Aylmer is suppose to love Georgiana but cant accept the way she looks, so he chooses to change her to meet his own satisfaction. Many of the expeditions to North America were made by private organizations; stock companies and the rich alike shared a common ideal of having a fresh start from outside their homeland. Two colonies with one common nationality, however, became two diverse establishments in North America. The colonies in New England and the Chesapeake region developed into two substantially contrasting ways of life. Most people who voyaged from their motherland were families and their servants (Doc B). Lists of those who emigrated contain upwards of forty families. Also, in the Articles of Agreement of Springfield, Massachusetts everyone shared the planting ground (Doc D). Since the community shared most of the farmland, greed would not be an issue when deciding who would get what plot of land. Further, Puritans believed we must entertain each other [with care, and] must be willing to [bridge ourselves] . . . [to supply for] others necessities (Doc A). The community theme the Massachusetts people embody is further seen in family relying upon family. Differing from the New England list of emigrants, most Virginia bound colonists were men who failed to bring their families or men who did not have families (Doc C). Gender And Misrepresentation In Sports And Media Gender representation and in particular misrepresentation is a key issue within sport and media today as female coverage of sport is overlooked in all forms of mainstream media. This issue is what we, as a group of 3, had to tackle and present to our academic peers in a student led seminar session. The issue derives from the main theme of sport and media and their relationship but could also be said to have direct links to other themes such as sport and (in) equality. Gender representation comes under both media and equality in terms of broader topics because it is the concern of the media to help broadcast more female sport and raise awareness of the inequality which exists to the wide audience it has to target, this doesn t happen enough currently. Research by Cooky et al. (2013) suggests that female sports coverage on ESPN sport takes up around 3% of coverage time which is a shocking disparity compared to men s coverage on the same channel. It also found that 0 news stories on WNBA were published out of season across multiple news channels while the NBA had 72 stories. Studying this topic is particularly important to understand historically and culturally why this problem exists as well as to look at the negative ideologies which exist within sports media around the subject of gender representation. • 36. Economic Traditionalism As The Antithesis Of Economic... Economic traditionalism is essentially the antithesis of modern capitalism. Within this framework, work was viewed as a necessary evil (Kalberg 2011a: p. 418). It was simply the means through which people acquire the economic needs necessary for survival. Therefore, work and money did not take precedence over one s family, community, and leisure. The tasks themselves were based on custom and tradition, and were independent of the individual himself. That is, work did not constitute one s self identity. Luther was an extreme proponent of this ideology. He was suspicious of wealth and asserted that money should only be enough to live a life of integrity. Weber ([1905] 2011) describes Luther s reservation: Luther was convinced that people of every status can become saved...Therefore, the striving for material gain that goes beyond one s own needs, Luther argues, must be a symptom of one s lack of grace. Indeed, because striving for gain appears to be possible only at the expense of others, this pursuit must be viewed as an unequivocal abomination. (P. 103) Thus, Luther was critical of those who utilized work to feed their avarice. Instead, asceticism was highly valued; as people were advised to renounce gluttony and avoid succumbing to their physical and sensual pleasures. Luther was also wary of those who attempted to venture outside of their calling. This was viewed as tinkering with God s will and undermining His plan for the individual s salvation. • 41. Analysis Of George A. Romero s Gory Film Land Of The Dead George A. Romero s gory film Land of the Dead was released June 2005. Jonathan Levine s Warm Bodies on the other hand has a scientific fiction undertone, and was released February 2013. Lately pop culture has had an interest in zombies. Both films chosen have a set contemporary standard of what a typical zombie is imagined to be. Whether created by supernatural sources or acquired by a virus, zombies are dead humans that now have the reincarnated mindset of instinctively hunting down and devouring the living. Those wounded by a zombie, become zombies themselves. Warm Bodies leans more towards the romance and comedy rather than horror. Whilst remaining true to the ideal zombie, the envelope is pushed with the unexpected direction that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This becomes particularly clear when we are introduced to the Bonies, who were once zombies like R but lost their hope. When they lose their hope they peel away their own skin, the last vestiges of their humanity, and will be unable to connect again. R even mentions how they will eat anything with a beating heart, much like himself, but he feels conflicted about it. Bonies are automatically set up as the antithesis of everything the movie stands for. They are the perfect villains and foils for the corpses and humans. In Romero s Land of the Dead, zombies have taken over the world and the loose ends of humanity live within the confines of a city that is bordered on two sides by rivers and a manmade fence on the third side. Zombies are beginning to evolve and slowly learning how to manipulate objects and their surroundings. The plots are a bit predictable filled with pure terror and gore opposing Warm Bodies. While everybody else is merely set on survival, Julie is still hoping for a cure, still considers it a possibility. Like R, she is looking for something, and wants more. She is unique in her own crowd of zombies. The very next scene parallels the survivors with the zombies. The group of survivors set out onto the streets looking for what they need, and it intercuts with scenes of the zombies doing the same. They are more alike than they are different.
