Satire Essay
Satire is a great tool used by many writers and actors since ancient times. The earliest example that we
know about is a script from 2nd millennium BC in Ancient Egypt (Definition: Satire) and since then
has evolved into a great part of our society. Satire is used to point out the faults of human vice in order
for change and reform in either of two ways. There is a very bitter Juvenalian or a mild and light
Horatian. In order to fully understand these forms of satire, method, purpose, and applications will be
addressed.
The best ways to present satire is either through incongruity, parody, reversals, or exaggeration. When
a writer presents incongruity, there are elements that are out of place, and they shouldn t be there. This

For this reason, satire offends very few people, but still inspires that important change. Whatever form
satire takes is how this will be accomplished. If it is Juvenalian, it is done with indignation and
harshness. This tone is somewhat dark and makes inspires change though a form of resentment. This is
usually more successful than the other because anger causes action. The other form is Horatian, and is
the amused and witty form of satire. It is presented as mockery, but never to insult or offend anyone.
This is just to show the faults of something and make people realize why they are wrong. Both
encourage change, and both are important.
Arguably, one of the most successful Juvenalian satires ever written is A Modest Proposal by Jonathan
Swift. Swift satirizes many things in the essay, with the most prevalent being the way that England
treats Ireland. Many of the inhabitants living there were poverty stricken and starving to death. Swift
then presents his plan to sell the children for food and that way they could earn a little bit of cash. He
says, I have been assured by a very knowing American ... that a young healthy child well nursed is at a
year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food (Jonathan Swift). This is a very strong
incongruity because eating babies isn t something

Freshman Year At Nazareth College Of Rochester Our...
Freshman year at Nazareth College of Rochester our volleyball team made it to the NCAA
championship hosted by our college. We competed through the regular season with a record of 29 1,
easily won the first 3 matches of the NCAA tournament, and had earned our way to the finals. The
night before the championship, we had our usual team dinner, gathered to watch film of the other team
to best prepare for our contest, then headed back to our respective rooms to sleep. Sleep was not easy
that night due to the thoughts of having the chance to be a national champion the next day. Sunday
morning came, I woke up at 8 a.m. and left my dorm room to have breakfast with the team. After
roughly 45 minutes we headed down to the locker room to get ready for our light morning practice.
We waited around in our locker room till 10 a.m., then went up to the gym for the practice, which was
an hour. After that, we all showered and changed and left for the media room by 11:30 a.m. to review
game film and strategies. After a long 2 and a half hours we met for a large lunch prepared by the
coach s wife. We all ate as much as we could so we only had to eat lightly before the 7 p.m. game. By
3:30 p.m. we all had gathered in the locker room to prepare for the match. Guys were making jokes
and goofing around trying to lighten the anxiety of the upcoming contest. 4:30 p.m. came and most of
the guys went to the trainer s room to get stretched, heat packs, and taped up. 5:55 p.m., we left the

The Dream Act
The Public Policy of Illegal Immigration?
Introduction
Is higher education an entitlement? As a daughter of immigrants, this question can not be answered by
a simple yes or no. Every area of policy is multifaceted. Every idea about policy draws certain
boundaries in the realm of politics and in the debate of social and economic legislation. Ideas tell what
or who is included or excluded in a category. (Stone). The rationale of public policy is taking a
complex agenda, situation or idea and attempting to scale it back into main points, arguments and
agendas. Furthermore, an issue is placed on the agenda, and a problem gets defined...alternative
solutions are proposed, analyzed, legitimized, selected and refined. A solution is implemented... (Stone
10 11). In this instance, reducing any answer to a simple yes or no response fails to capture different
points of views and different ideas and the diverse amount of forces at play. Matters of community,
loyalty and public interest almost always ignore the school of rationale thought. For this purpose,
using the very ambiguous label of Americans , we all must reconcile our social perceptions of what
was believed to be our American heritage for what it visibly is. In June 2012, just months before his
reelection bid, President Barack Obama announced a major policy shift to slow the deportation of
young, undocumented workers in favor of granting them permanent stay in the United States. Obama
stated that his policy swing was

Chinua Achebe s Writing A Honest And Nitty Gritty Picture...
Achebe s significant thought process in his craft is the presentation of a honest and nitty gritty picture
of Ibo society and culture. Achebe goes up against the undertaking of uncovering its different
measurements and demonstrating that Nigerian tribal culture likewise like some other culture is rich
and various, it includes a complex joining of religious formal, social and monetary elements. Things
Fall Apart is a brief and thorough record of the life in the town of Umuofia especially of Okonkwo and
his family that have experienced diverse changes inside the progression of time. Prior to the
interruption of the Europeans, the Ibo society was loosened to share the delights and distresses of each
other. In icy seasons they used to lounge around log fire warming up their bodies, moving, giggling
and singing. They had confidence in the prophets of the slopes and the holes. They had the dread of
their tribal divine beings, enchantment and of the powers of the nature. Individuals used to originate
from far and close to counsel Agabala. At gather or while devouring they used to appease the
progenitors or the divine beings, offering them their best employments and worshiping them in their
naturally peaceful and delightful way. They were extremely cordial to any meeting visitor and offered
him/her Kola nuts, which were ceremoniously broken and broke preceding any discussion. A piece of
African one of a kind culture is shown in the accompanying concentrate of the Things Fall Apart:

Characteristics Of Surrey Neighbourhoods
Surrey Neighbourhoods
Throughout Surrey every neighbourhood has a different sense of place which is well defined through
its character which is a fundamental of sense of place in residential communities. Thus making each
neighbourhood a vital part of a truly liveable, modern city(City of Surrey, Surrey communities).
There are six main neighbourhoods in Surrey (Fig 1):
1. North Surrey/Whalley
2. Guildford
3. Fleetwood
4. Newton
5. Cloverdale
6. South Surrey
North Surrey/Whalley

town centres. The neighbourhood comprises of dense, low to high rise residential and mixed use areas
which are serviced by tracked rapid transit. The neighbourhood gives ... Show more content on

The historic resort community of Crescent Beach is one of South Surrey s most popular attractions.
South Surrey offers connections to the United States through the Peace Arch and Pacific Highway
border crossings which gives a sense of landscape dominated ecological environment and a
memorable destination getaway with a vibrant urban waterfront place which connects memories and
people around the world (Fig 8).
Conclusion
To some extent the sense of place depends on the built form, surrounding features derived from a mix
of natural and cultural features in the landscape, aesthetics and characteristic of the neighbourhood but
a major part depends on the feeling or perception held by people who occupy the place and not by the
place itself and thus makes a place special or unique, authentic or belonging. Places can have a strong
sense of place identity and character by local inhabitants and by many visitors. It is a social
phenomenon that exists independently of any one individual s perceptions or experiences. Surrey
neighbourhoods have distinguishable sense of place which can t be defined by one

Humanoid Robots
According to Heather Knight, back in the initiation of the industrial revolution, robotic machines
meant automation; a field that requested devices to perform and serve more efficiently than humans. In
these modern days, technology and innovation underscored a different design obligation: how robots
and people can work better together. But the problem that coincides is, humanoid robots are portraying
a more anthropoid appearance which makes it look too horrifying to humans: the sentiment whether or
not humanized robots would bond with human beings. In fact, a vague social design can stipulate
people not to construe or interact with machines. According to Uncanny Valley, a useful rubric
introduced by robotic designers explained that making a device that looks similar to humans is
substantial to an extent. That said, humanoid robots would retain prolonging in a discomfort zone until
technology achieves anthropoid likeness that emblems all, emotions and intelligence similar to
humans.Zombies, for example, portrayed the human descriptive. But people feel intimidated by them
even though they are unrealistic objects. Why? Because the behavior is not entirely human, and thus,
human perceived them differently, Knight said.Thereby, the interdisciplinary of the eunuchs in the
medieval Islamic empires serves to promote a coherent portrayal; displaying how the social

Themes Of Honor In A Tale Of Two Cities
Ashlyn Tilby
Miss. Tao
Honors English 10
1 October 2017
What of Honor?
Some would say that honor is a thing of the past; a thing long since extinct with the King Arthur and
the knights of the round table. In fact, it is not, it is real and can still be seen all around through people
all the time. In Charles Dicken s novel, A Tale of Two Cities, honor and dishonor are main themes that
are exemplified and enacted through many characters. To be honorable, or to act in honor, is to act in a
way that is not necessarily socially acceptable, but is morally right, noble, and kind. To be
dishonorable is to neglect the basic responsibility of treating every human being in the respectful
manner they deserve, giving no variance to rank or status. Throughout the book different men show
varying degrees of honor and dishonor.
One such man was Charles Darnay, who, throughout the entire novel, was a prime example of honor
and merit. In the early part of the novel, Darnay pays a visit to his oppressive uncle who was a French
Marquis, and responsible for the death and poverty of many of his subjects. Darnay went to the
Marquis on behalf of those being oppressed by his family member; beseeching his uncle to have
mercy and act with benevolence toward those peasants he disregarded so easily. Darnay, unable to
convince his uncle of the need to change his ways left his home country for good to be free of his
family s misdeeds. In chapter twenty four of Book the Second the author gives a

Paleontology Research Paper
Paleontology, The science for Kids
Out of all of the topic we could have picked for research, I chose the topic of Geology, the study of
fossils. So Geology can be broken into multiple smaller realms of study. So I chose to research more
or paleontology. Ever since I was a child I had a deep fascination with dinosaurs, and any and ever
fact about them. It really is a piece of who I am. Even to this very day I love them. When I see the
word fossil, immediately my mind shoots to prehistoric, dinosaur fossils. There are plenty of kinds of
fossils, but this one is very significant to me. As a child I could answer any question about dinosaurs,
anything at all. As I was studying more about this topic this time around there were some very
important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The question is why? After doing research I couldn t find a definitive answer. It also depends heavily
on where those people lived. The over compensating question of why, would be to better understand
what came before us. If you are of a simpler mind it might be to figure out what these giant things are
and how I can get one. Now that my understanding and interest have grown with my age it might be to
better understand all of God s creations and understand as much as I can. Fossils, and Dinosaurs have
caught the human imagination. They are wonderful, fascinating, and thought provoking. Why wouldn
t you study them. Those original scientists, geologist said and examined if their theories were right.
Thats what encouraged them to examine fossils, prehistoric creatures ,dinosaurs, more closely. This
science makes massive strides, and then takes long, lengthily stale moments. A good example would
be what dinosaurs where first thought to look like, to what they look like now. ( see included
photographs ) or the descovery of new species. Scientists often find fossils, but are not quick to make
observations of life styles, diet, mating, colors. These are all question that are extremely hard to
observe when the animal in question has been dead for hundreds of millions of years... onward and
upward. So at this point its mostly theories. Examining others work in this science is extremely

Essay about The Effects of Runoff to Marine Life
Runoff is defined as excess water that soil does not absorb after a storm. Runoff collects various
particles on its way downhill, such as pesticides and nutrients, from the surrounding area, and moves
them into the nearby bodies of water. Some nutrients carried by runoff include: nitrate, ammonium,
and phosphate; all of which are found in golf course turf fertilizer (experiment). When these excess
chemicals enter the water, they create an imbalance in the ecosystem. This imbalance can be harmful
to inhabitants both in, and around the body of water. Those affected in the water may be subjected to a
decrease in dissolved oxygen levels, making it harder for the animals to breath. The levels of acidity in
the water may increase, causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sliva and Dudley Williams gathered information that with increased urban land use, there were
increased chemical fluxes, and their data they gathered from increased agricultural land use disagreed
with the results of other similar studies. They determined major trends in water quality and where
pollution could potentially be derived from (Sliva Dudley Williams, 2001). It is a known fact that
unnecessary amounts of lawn fertilizer, containing nitrogen and phosphorus, are commonly used, and
result in pollution of the Chesapeake Bay. This occurs through runoff. Not all of the nutrients from
runoff get transported directly to the Bay. Overtime, some are absorbed into the ground, where they
mix with groundwater, and later meets up with the Bay. For example, in a stream near Baltimore,
scientists discovered that 56% of the nutrients in the water came from lawn fertilizer alone
(Chesapeake Bay Program, 2011). Nitrogen and phosphorus are not only the primary nutrients in lawn
fertilizer, they are also the primary nutrients required to sustain aquatic biological productivity, in the
correct moderation. In freshwater ecosystems, the growth of phytoplankton and algae are influenced
by a surplus of nitrogen and phosphorus. Aquatic grasses living under this excess growth are then
inhibited from growing, eventually leading towards grass bed loss, due to the lack of sunlight
available. Lack of sunlight results in a lack of photosynthesis. Unlike the more

Freud s Ego-Defense Mechanisms
Freud had studied many clients during psychotherapy sessions, (Hunt, 2007). He conjectured that the
id, ego, and superego were three main constituents of every individual, (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley,
2013). Freud believed that these three components might strive for different goals at times, which
leads to struggle and anxiety that the conscious limits with the use of defense mechanisms, (Butcher,
Mineka, Hooley, 2013). Defense mechanisms also known as ego defense mechanisms, mental
maneuvers that aid in pacifying anxiety in the unconscious rather than dealing with the worrisome
physical situation itself, (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2013). A few types of defense mechanisms are
projection, displacement, and repression, (Butcher, Mineka, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I study the material and take extensive notes; however, when I have to take tests I have an immense
amount of anxiety. I go through the test and I go back through the test a second and sometimes third
time to see if I can correct answers that I felt, I did not know. Each time I do this, I find that I end up
changing answers that were correct to incorrect. I have gotten extremely upset in the past because I
have done poorly on tests and I will be upset enough to be snippy with my husband and kids rather
than myself for changing answers I thought were accurate, but I second guessed myself. My children
were extremely noisy or arguing while I was taking the test and my husband did not stop their
bickering, so I had to step away from the timed tests to discipline them. Furthermore, this upset me
and I would lay the blame on my husband for his lack of action to keep the girls quiet while I was
testing or take them out of the house. Ultimately, I could have tried to take the test at a different time
when no one was home or I could have not gone back and changed answers. My using displacement
made me feel better about my not doing well because I put part of the blame on my husband or
children. Now days, I take my quizzes when no one else is home and I still need to work on not going
back to change answers, but at least I am owning my mistakes and finding alternative ways to lessen
my test anxiety. The third defense mechanism, repression, is something that I also have utilized
tremendously. According to Jones, repression was one of Freud s most distinguished and innovative
contributions to psychoanalysis, (as cited in Hunt, 2007). One could understand repression as the
denial of the presence of something that is the foundation of anxiety for an individual, which includes
the unconscious, (Schultz Schultz,

Prepared Infant Formulas
The Infant
Breast feeding is the most favorable food an infant receives. A woman starts to lactate after birth and
the newborn yearns for their mother s milk. The child and mother bond creating a comfort
environment. The breast milk comprises of balanced nutrients that carry immunological traits.
However, if the mother didn t have a healthy pregnancy or has a sexual transmitted infection the milk
may do more harm than good. (Leifer 397 398) Supplemental nutrition is readily available if breast
feeding was not ideal. Synthetic nutrition is different than human milk. Allergies could possibly
develop and it could disrupt their digestion. Pediatricians speak favorably of iron fortified formulas
due to low maternal iron it decreases after 6 months of age. Cow s milk is not good for infants until
they are one. There are many companies that create prepared infant formulas. Many well known
names are Enfamil, Similac, Nestle, Pedialyte. (Leifer 398 399) ... Show more content on

Selecting and preparing solids foods for the infant may be tricky for parents. There are several
concerns that parents might have. Solid foods are introduced at the age 4 months to 6 months.
Pediatricians speak well of rice cereal. It should be the first food to be introduced since it barely
harbors allergic reactions. Fruits, vegetables, and meats should be a part of their diet. Thoroughly
cleaning all produce. Parents are warned of the use of honey. Honey may contain spores that can make
the infant very ill. Parents are also taught to pour plenty of water into the food to keep a pureed

The Grid Model And Its Contribution To International...
Question 1
This case is review of the grid model and its contributions to international organizational
development. It talks about how Grid International design its learning process such that it combines
leadership styles with self convincing learning methodology that creates motivation to change and
organizational development. The Grid has seven leadership styles that are based on varying concern
for people and results. The Grid approach to change takes a four step organization development
process that builds a culture of mutual trust respect and candor through discussion of personal values,
norms and behaviors against soundest behaviors needed to accomplish standard of excellence set by
participants themselves. The process begins with individual development, then move to intact team
development, group to group development and organization strategic planning. Grid international
approach to organizational development is applied by many organizations around the globe.

In this phase, there is the development of group to group relationships. Team to team conflicts are
resolved and a cooperative relationship is build based on mutual trust and respect. Management and

management and unions.
The concept of strategic human resource planning is seen in the final stage of Grid approach to
organizational development. In this stage where companies take full advantage of people common
language, standards of excellence, and skills in place to undertake organizational wide strategic

Diary Of The Dead
Of all the Dead films, Diary of the Dead is by far one I enjoy the least. Not a sequel, but occurring at
the same time as the original film, as you can hear some of the broadcasts over the radio. It feels
disjointed with the other films as it feels like more a reboot than sharing any form of canonical order
with the other films in the series. Another big issue I have is the found footage/documentary approach
that the film takes. As it claims to be for us, to help us survive. The worlds ended and the internet
would have been one of the first things to collapse. How are we seeing this and by the point that we
would have seen it, chances are we already know all of this anyway. Rendering the very concept of

shaky statement.
My main issue is in the other Dead films, the core aspect of what the movie is about it subtle. Here the
message is not only blatant, but straight up repeated over and over. It doesn t happen if it didn t
happen on camera, along with the constant need to point out Jason is disconnected by viewing the
events through a camera. Going so far as to watch his friends nearly die because he refuses to set
down the camera long enough to help.
Final thoughts, Diary of the Dead is mostly a hot mess. Nothing the film tries to congeals all the well
and what few good parts it has are quickly passed over. Samuel being one of these aspects, how the
Amish survive or handle the zombie Apocalypse is an amazing thing to cover. But the character is
written off as quick as he s written in. This films only saving grace is that it isn t the final in the series.

Dumbest Generation Thesis
Synthesis Essay The younger generation of Americans, those under the age of thirty, are often
criticized as being the dumbest generation . Many Americans blame technology for making goods so
plentiful, schooling so accessible, diversion so easy, and liberties so copious (Bauerlein). Many are
posing the question: Is the increasing ease in life causing our intelligence to slip? Those under thirty
are not the dumbest generation, in fact, technology is expanding, changing, and pushing in new
directions intelligence and mental capacity. Technology has allowed young Americans to transform
the way they think and learn. According to a 2008 study by Mizuko Ito, the internet has allowed the
flourishing of self directed learning. The enormous possibilities the internet offers, allows people to
delve into topics or research a variety of areas that interest them. People can now explore their
curiosity endlessly. Researches have also noticed a change in literacy among the younger generation.

Computer and video games, for example, challenge mental dexterity. The complexity of the
environments and worlds the players must navigate, encourage the growth of their problem solving

The Design And Development Of The Architecture For The...
History of REST
Since 1994, the REST architectural style has been used to guide the design and development of the
architecture for the modern Web (Roy T. Fielding, 2000)
When HTTP , Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI), was being developed by the Internet Engineering
Taskforce there was a need for a model to be created of how the WWW should actually work.
This idealized model of the interactions within a web application, is what was then later referred to as
the Representational State Transfer (REST) architectural style and it became the foundation for the
modern Web architecture, providing the guiding principles by which flaws in the preexisting
architecture could be identified and extensions validated prior to deployment. (Roy T. Fielding., et al.,
2005)
World Wide Web
Initially the web was meant for researchers but around 1993 it became evident that more entities were
likely to use it as usage was starting to spread to campus dorms, clubs houses personal home pages
and later to the institutions and commercial companies.
When individuals started publishing their personal information, on different topics they felt fanatic
about this social network effect started a rapid growth of sites that still goes on to this day.
Commercial interest also was beginning, but it was evident by then that the ability to publish on an
international wide scale would be inevitable to business and related entities.
Despite this initial success that was being witnessed, a concern came to the

Narcissistic And Cult Leaders Essay
Narcissistic and Cult Leaders Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Cult Leaders
Every day we face and deal with either small or big issues relating to terrorist leaders from inside and
outside of country. During the past decade we have seen North Korean leader, Kim Jung Un, Osama
bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Fidel Castro of Cuba, Idi Amain of Uganda and more, who have been
described as crazy, cruel, lunatic, madman, psychopath and even worse. How could they acquire all
the power, rule over people and become a leader in a country if they were such a psychopath?
Ironically, they are just as rational as we are. We simply do not have a full understanding of their
personalities, which are unusually different from societal norms and expectation. They are defined as a
personality disorder. There are six personality disorders classified: sadistic, antisocial, paranoid,
narcissistic, schizoid and schizotypal.
Remarkably, most of these cult leaders have been suffering from narcissistic personality disorder,
which brings a dictatorship in social relationship and a fatal negative influential to both oneself and
others. Any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing the Application of Integrated Marketing...
During the last decade of the twentieth century, the concept of integrated marketing communications
(IMC) received considerable attention from practitioners and academics alike, and that interest has
continued into the new millennium (e.g., Bearden and Madden 1996; Cornelissen and Lock 2000;
Duncan, Schultz, and Patti 2005; Garretson and Burton 2005; Nowak and Phelps 1994; Schultz and
Kitchen 2000a; Schumann, Artis, and Rivera 2001). As the marketplace has become more fragmented
over the years, organizations have embraced IMC as a means to effectively and efficiently target and
attract the splintering mass market through the transmission of a unified message across all contact
points between organizations and their consumers. Whether the ... Show more content on

For instance, an ad that contains a direct response tool (e.g., a coupon), a public relations appeal (e.g.,
support of an esteemed social cause), and brand advertising (e.g., depiction and description of the
offering) would reflect the integrated communication form of IMC. A key outcome of this approach is
the acquisition of consumer information that is captured when consumers respond to direct response
tools, sales promotions, and the like (Nowak and Phelps 1994).
The one voice approach reflects a firm s focus on a single positioning strategy that emphasizes unity
among brand/ image advertising, direct response advertising, public relations, and consumer sales
promotions at the outset of a promotional campaign (Reilly 1991; Snyder 1991). In this approach, the
position, message, or theme is what ultimately guides an organization s IMC decisions, which
ostensibly could be rendered independently by the firm s advertising, public relations, and sales
promotion agencies (Nowak and Phelps 1994).
The third approach, coordinated marketing communication campaigns, stresses the need to integrate
the activities of different marketing communication disciplines (e.g., sales promotions, advertising,
and public relations) in

The Imitation Game Historical Inaccuracies
The Imitation Game is a 2014 American historical drama film directed by Morten Tyldum and written
by Graham Moore, which is based on the biography Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges. It
is about the code breaking program by the British during World War II, which helped Britain to break
encoded Enigma messages from the Germans. Alan Turning, the main character, is a homosexual
mathematician that is in charge of the project and is portrayed as a selfish genius that builds the code
breaking machine, Christopher almost by himself. During the movie, he is suspected to be a Soviet
spy and is later sentenced to chemical castration due to his homosexuality. The main plot of the movie

The movie also helped me to understand more about the codebreaking of Enigma that in the end
caused Germany to lose the war. I had a lot of German history in high school, since it is obviously
taught in Germany, but we never learned any details about how the encryption of Enigma really
happened and how it was used. Furthermore, I think that the movie is really entertaining; however, it
helps the viewer to understand the historical events taking place and conveys the importance of those
events. I was able to understand the historical event, even though the creators of the movie had made
many changes. I like how Alan Turing is characterized by the filmmaker and how his personality
changes throughout the movie. In general, I think that historical movies are a great way to tell history
as long as the historical events are portrayed close to the historical record. In my opinion, it is a good
way to illustrate history to students because history can be pretty dry if not taught correctly, and
movies help to make it more entertaining. However, historical movies only show a certain civilization
or event, which makes them limiting in conveying the whole economic and global effects of the events
portrayed. If historical movies are combined with informing lectures and textbook readings, the whole
history can be conveyed very accurately to students, and the films make it more fun to study

The US Laws and Guidelines Governing Fair and Equitable Business Practices
The United States became one of the most influential world powers virtually overnight. The system of
functionality which maintains this growth and power is the refined codes of business practices which
are the cornerstone for domestic and international business relations the world over. Due to the
unprecedented growth and prosperity of our nations economy and government, many countries look to

One great example of this type of relationship is the two businesses Macintosh and Windows.
Historically they have always been in constant competition with one another, which has ultimately
benefitted the people of the world by fueling competitive innovation. [1] National competition law
usually does not cover activity beyond territorial borders unless it has significant effects at nation state
level.
One law, which helps protect businesses and promotes fair competition for the benefit of the
consumers, is the US Anti Trust law. This law is comprised of three different acts: The Sherman Act
1890, the Clayton Act 1914 and the Federal Trade Commission Act 1914. The first role these acts
perform is to restrict the formation of cartels which would perform outside of the guidelines of the
government and there for not be bound by there laws. The second role these acts perform is to ensure
no single business entity can perform a certain level of mergers and acquisitions, which would
essentially turn them into a monopoly and reduce competition. Overall, the antitrust laws are
constantly debated for their overall functionality and efficiency in protecting the fair business
practices of the United States. [2] One view, mostly closely associated with the Chicago School of
economics suggests that antitrust laws should focus solely on the benefits to consumers and overall
efficiency, while a broad range of

Film is a powerful medium to communicate through. Film can also be easily exploited. In the

consequently resulting in totalitarian cinema which later directly reflects international cultures and

Further analysis in the various Chinese styles of nationalism demonstrates how political parties
affected filmmaking in the 1930s. The Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang Part, also called
the Nationalist Party, initiated the Left Wing Film Movement and the Nationalist Film Movement
presented two competing discourses of nationalism. The CCP rendered the class struggle with its
advocacy of nationalism through films while the KMT endorsed the idea of national survival by
advocating Confucian values to maintain Chinese tradition. In both situations, each party claimed that
they represented the interests of the entire nation through filmmaking (Hu 26). With these two parties

The Life of Katherine of Aragon
Katherine of Aragon is famous for being the first of Henry VIII s many wives, the one who fought
back and defended her papally sanctioned marriage; the mother of Mary I; and the daughter of Isabella
of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon, founders of the kingdom of España. These facts place her in the
position of a traditional sixteenth century woman by defining her as wife, mother, and daughter. In
these roles, many women have been overlooked as the subject of their own study, and it certainly
makes sense to do this, as on the surface they are not in control of their own agency. Looking deeper,
however, one can see that this role places women instead in a position of power. From behind the
scenes, women like Katherine were able to pull the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

dinners before they continued on their way to London. On the night of November 4, at the Bishop s

Common Themes In Breaker Morant, AndThe Crucible
The common theme shared across both texts, a difficult environment can challenge a person s
character or true nature. In Breaker Morant , this is evident through the character of Harry Morant, the
protagonist of the story. Following the death of his friend and comrade, Captain Hunt, Morant orders
his unit, the Bushveldt Carbineers to ride for multiple days at a time in hopes of tracking the Boer
soldiers. As evident by the narration, We rode another couple of days... hardly ever stopped . Who
ambushed, mutilated and stole the jacket of Hunt, a sign that Morant saw as a gesture of disrespect.
Morant took offence to these actions, as he viewed Hunt to be a highly respected and honourable man.
Morant became driven as he finally had a cause that he was willing to put all of his energy towards.
Morant s respect and disgust of the actions are shown when he is shouting at the Boer soldier found
with the Hunt s jacket Captain Hunt had bullet wounds...They mutilated him! This is similarly shown
in The Crucible as John Proctor becomes greatly enraged due to his wife being falsely accused and
arrested. Out of character, Proctor allows his emotions to get the better of him as he lashes out at
Abigail grasping her by the throat as though he would strangle her . This is vastly different to the
manner he had previously been acting, as through the rest of the play as most of his actions were
reserved and thought out.

Medicare is government program that covers individuals 65 and older and disabled. Medicare is single

How Musical is Man?
The ethnography I chose to read and write about is How Musical is Man? by John Blacking. John
Blacking is a famous British anthropologist but he later got trained to be an ethnomusicologist and
was a major influential musical figure in history. He often thought that music was humanly organized
sound and that no musical style has its own terms but more of the terms of its society and culture.
Throughout the book, Blacking made many great points and teaches us in a nonbiased way. In this
book, John Blacking discusses the nature of musicality, the role of music in society, learning, and the
musical discourse. How Musical is Man? is an ethnography on the music of the Venda people of South

I Knew A Woman By Theodore Roethke
The poem I Knew a Woman by Theodore Roethke is a very sensual poem as it illustrates in several
lines about to love making. Even though, it is a poem that shows the poet s extreme sense of love and
remembrance for his beloved. T. Roethke describes the cherished image of the woman that he loves
and admires in many ways, and thoughtful tone also describes her as lovely in her bones ( ). He has
compared her virtues with a goddess by using the phrase of whom only God could speak ( ). The dual
meaning underlying the poem are the foundation and help to intertwine the rest of the poem in a
gracefully way. A woman s beauty is more than skin deep and is a fundamental part of herself and
what she is inside.
In contrast with Bishop s poem One Art, the author does a perfect job negating the impact the feeling
of loss has in a person. All throughout the poem Bishop tries to convince herself that losing is part of
life. Her argumentations are irrational in some sense, with her tone she is trying to be indifferent to
what she is feeling deep inside. In the last stanza, she changes her tone and admits that losing the
beloved has a profound effect and brings disaster to her soul.
Both poems use different tools to describe emotions; both authors use double meaning, hyperbole,
repetition, and irony. Both poems talk about love in different ways. One is remembering the loved one
and the other one is trying to convince herself to be strong because that beloved person is not there

Einstein s theory of Relativity hinges on two axioms: the laws of physics are the same for all frames of
reference, and the speed of light in a vacuum is constant. In his famous train thought experiment,
Einstein proved that the order of events depends on the location of the observer. In essence, he proved
time dilation: or the phenomena that time bends and contracts. Eventually, he realized time dilation is
a necessary consequence of keeping the speed of light in a vacuum constant everywhere in the
universe, leading him to eventually conclude that space and time are not separate, distinct entities, but

He chases this unformed notion, until at last in The Dry Salvages, he releases his own David from the
marble block of uncertainty. The hint half guessed, the gift half understood, is/ Incarnation. /Here the
impossible union/of spheres of existence is actual,/ Here past and future/ Are conquered, and
reconciled, . The Incarnation provides the only instance wherein time and eternity collide, and co
exist. The Incarnation allows time past, time present, and time yet to come a simultaneous existence.
However, the implications of simultaneity drastically change reality, both for Einstein and for Eliot.
Einstein s theory allowed for strange realizations, such as light is both a particle and a wave at the
same time and in the same way, which seems to break the foundational law of non contradiction. Eliot
s realization that the Incarnation redeems all time by allowing it all to exist together, seems to face the
same problem. However, this seemingly self referential absurdity may spring from nothing more than
the frame of reference from within which Eliot and Einstein work. Just as time and eternity are
separate and distant entities to the normal observer, the observer on the event horizon sees them as the
same thing simultaneously. Perhaps, when viewed from the frame of reference of the Incarnation,
these absurdities resolve into clarity, for here the impossible union of spheres of existence is

Summary Of Gun Control
This week, I chose an article about gun s control.
The article was written by Kelin Emmett and reviewed by Firmin DeBrabander .
Their opinion contradicts the opinion of some in saying that the right to have a weapon makes a
society free. The authors accuse the fear to make it pro gun. This is not freedom. The authors also
criticize the media by encouraging fear. The article claims that the communities most affected by
violence approve the control of the guns, and the areas least affected by violence often celebrated the
guns as emblematic of freedom.
My opinion about the subject of this article is:
I agree with the authors about having the power to have a gun don t give you freedom. If you want a
gun, this means you have a fear of something

Distracted Driving (Psas)
Each day in the United States, 8 people on average are killed in a distracted driving related accident
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016). Distracted driving can constitute anything from
talking on the phone to reaching for a fallen object while driving. One way people have been fighting
to combat the deadliness of distracted driving is through PSAs. PSAs are Public Service
Announcements, like commercials, that warn people of dangerous activities and heighten their
awareness of a problem. Even if people think no one pays attention to PSAs, if even one person saw
and understood a PSA, it would make a difference. PSAs are an important part of the prevention of
distracted driving because it heightens peoples awareness of the ... Show more content on

Around 90% of participants in a study on reception of PSAs understood the PSA eyes on the road
hands on the wheel to mean either stay alert or don t drive distracted (US Department of
Transportation, 2017). This implies that PSAs certainly get their message across when they are
viewed. On average, at least 70% of participants recognized a seat belt PSA, so PSAs stick in the
memory of those who view them (US Department of Transportation, 2017). According to the US
Department of Transportation (2017), around 60% participants agreed that it was often or always
necessary for dynamic PSA signs on roads. In addition, the majority of participants strongly agreed
that it was very important to provide information on putting away mobile phones while driving. This
shows that people are aware of the problem of distracted driving, and agree that awareness of this
problem in others is extremely important. Finally, the participants were asked if would change their
behavior if they saw a PSA that said eyes on the road, hands on the wheel , don t be a distracted driver
, or drive safely, text later it can wait . The overwhelming majority answered maybe, probably yes, or
definitely yes (US Department of Transportation, 2017). PSAs do make a huge difference in driving
behavior and give people a reminder of the consequences of distracted driving. The more immediate a
reminder, the more it will affect your behavior, so PSAs on signs are even more effective than those
viewed on television or in other advertising. PSAs are important parts of preventing dangerous
behavior like distracted

Former Mental Patients
Former mental patients must reach out and find a proper support system to help them remain on their
medication and sane. A study preformed in Tokyo by Kido, Yoshifumi; Kawakami, Norito; Miyamoto,
Yuki; Chiba, Rie; Tsuchiya, Masao (2013) showed that former patients that reside in more tight knit,
willing to help communities will find the transition less threatening because of their expectations of
receiving help from their neighbors. Yoshifumi, Norito, Yuki, Rie, and Masao (2013) also reported,
People living in a community with high trust might generalize their feelings of trust to people with
mental illness and perceive them as trustworthy as a part of the community. There were no findings
that related volunteer work, fairness, or confidence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is believed that the majority American public hold the beliefs that the mentally ill are unpredictable,
irrational, dangerous, bizarre, incompetent, and unkempt , and these stereotypes have only
strengthened from the 1950s to the present. (Thoits, 2011) Despite educational campaigns, there is still
a strong desire among the public to keep a social distance from the mentally ill in an attempt to avoid
awkward social interactions. Studies have shown that there s a direct correlation between
discrimination and low self esteem issues among mental patients. Low self esteem is also linked to
negative health effects. Not all patients who experienced social rejection report a low self worth. It is
stated that patients who experienced social rejection already demonstrated low self worth and self
esteem issues. Some studies even find that stigmatized patients have a very high self esteem. (Thoits,
2011) A study done by National Alliance for the Mentally Ill consumers, Wahl (1999) expressed that
eighteen percent of the sample took the stigma as a form of empowerment. Another study done by
Lysaker (2007) showed that patients with a high insight on their stigma were associated with lower
depression, lower quality of life, and lower self esteem. It was also found that these associations are
stronger for patients with a high self stigma than for those with a low self stigma. Low

Collaboration of Buying Suppliers in South African...
While there is a varied amount of sectors and/or industries that have major issues and concerns, the
automotive industry in South Africa is a present issue that needs to be considered, (Naude Weiss,
2011). The OEMs in South Africa are BMW (3 series), Ford (Ranger pickup from 2011), GM (Corsa
pickup, Isuzu pickup), Mercedez Benz (C Class), Nissan/Renault (various sedans and pickups), Toyota
(Corolla 4 door and Hilux pickup), Volkswagen (new and old Polo), (Pitot, 2010). Government
persuade and pressurize automotive assemblers to increase local content but the reality of the situation
is that there local manufacturers aren t as competitive as they would like to be or they aren t as
competitive as those suppliers and automotive assemblers internationally. The reason being is supply
chain issues cause inefficiencies that impact a local automotive assembler to gain competitiveness,
(Naude Weiss, 2011).
The most common drivers of demand distortion are unforeseen sales promotion which have a ripple
effect on the supply chain, lack of customer confidence and cancellations of orders, (Lysons, 2003). To
remain competitive, the automotive industry needs to decrease costs and enhance customer service
levels. Some complexities they may face is rising fuel prices and high manpower costs which
negatively influences the cost of living in today s society. The reason South Africa is not competitive
is due to the low percentage of local content in a final product), (Pitot, 2010). If

Music During The 19th Century
For thousands of years, music has been a significant part of daily life. Spanning through time, we have
seen an incalculable amount of talented musicians that have transformed our world; unfortunately, a
copious amount of their work was unable to be captured as the technology was not advanced enough.
It wasn t until around 200 years that we were finally able to uphold a copy. Within the past century,
there have been multiple improvements to the process of recording music; one of the most important
is the invention of vinyl.
During the 19th century, the invention of vinyl began. Inventors tried various renditions of disc
records, but many of them suffered a high level of surface noise. In 1930, RCA Victor was the first
company to launch a vinyl music record to the public; however, there was still ... Show more content

This creation started the never ending process of improving the recording device. Throughout the past
fifty years, there have been products such as cassette tapes, 8 tracks, and CD s that have further
improved the sound and convenience of music recording devices. Instead of a 12 inch vinyl record, we
are now able to listen to music through an application on our cellular devices. All of this was made
possible through the invention of a vinyl music record.
Vinyl records will always be remembered as an iconic creation for the music industry and world as a
whole. This development brought music into the homes of millions of individuals for them to enjoy. It
provided musicians with a new, major profit which supported many struggling. While vinyl records
may be seen as a thing of the past, they have made a monumental comeback in 2013, increasing by
52%. Currently, over 9 million units are sold annually. In the digital age, vinyl records are still adored
by millions of individuals and will continue to be for many years to

APA Style Analysis
APA Style Sample
APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines. It
is formatted like MLA, and shows many similarities, but is unique in several key points.
APA uses parenthetical (or in text) citations within sentences, but rather than indicating the author s
name and page number, APA includes author s name and date of publication. The page number,
represented with a p. or a pp., is only added to the citation when using a direct quote (not a summary
or paraphrase). If the author s name is mentioned in the sentence, then place the date of publication in
parentheses directly after the name. If the name is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the interviewees have been called exceptions to the norm (Strong amp; Porter, 1998, p. 565).
Note the first example paraphrases an author that is named in the sentence, the second example
paraphrases authors that are not named in the sentence, and the third example provides a direct quote
(thus the inclusion of the page numbers) but also does not identify the authors within the sentence. If
the authors were identified within the sentence in the third example, the authors names would be
followed by the year of publication and only the page numbers would be in the parentheses at the end
of the quote.
Finally, the bibliographic page in APA style differs from MLA, what APA calls the Reference page.
You will notice a few immediate differences from the MLA Works Cited format. With APA you
include the initial of the author s first name rather than the complete name, the publication date
immediately follows the author s name in parentheses, and titles of articles are not surrounded with
quotation marks (however titles of books, magazines, journals, etc are still underlined). The lists are
still alphabetized by author s last name (or title in the absence of an author) and the first line is flush
left while subsequent lines in the same entry are indented in (approximately 5 spaces or one tab). For
journals and magazines, publication title and volume number are both underlined,

  • 2. Satire Essay Satire is a great tool used by many writers and actors since ancient times. The earliest example that we know about is a script from 2nd millennium BC in Ancient Egypt (Definition: Satire) and since then has evolved into a great part of our society. Satire is used to point out the faults of human vice in order for change and reform in either of two ways. There is a very bitter Juvenalian or a mild and light Horatian. In order to fully understand these forms of satire, method, purpose, and applications will be addressed. The best ways to present satire is either through incongruity, parody, reversals, or exaggeration. When a writer presents incongruity, there are elements that are out of place, and they shouldn t be there. This not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For this reason, satire offends very few people, but still inspires that important change. Whatever form satire takes is how this will be accomplished. If it is Juvenalian, it is done with indignation and harshness. This tone is somewhat dark and makes inspires change though a form of resentment. This is usually more successful than the other because anger causes action. The other form is Horatian, and is the amused and witty form of satire. It is presented as mockery, but never to insult or offend anyone. This is just to show the faults of something and make people realize why they are wrong. Both encourage change, and both are important. Arguably, one of the most successful Juvenalian satires ever written is A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift. Swift satirizes many things in the essay, with the most prevalent being the way that England treats Ireland. Many of the inhabitants living there were poverty stricken and starving to death. Swift then presents his plan to sell the children for food and that way they could earn a little bit of cash. He says, I have been assured by a very knowing American ... that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food (Jonathan Swift). We competed through the regular season with a record of 29 1, easily won the first 3 matches of the NCAA tournament, and had earned our way to the finals. The night before the championship, we had our usual team dinner, gathered to watch film of the other team to best prepare for our contest, then headed back to our respective rooms to sleep. Sleep was not easy that night due to the thoughts of having the chance to be a national champion the next day. Sunday morning came, I woke up at 8 a.m. and left my dorm room to have breakfast with the team. After roughly 45 minutes we headed down to the locker room to get ready for our light morning practice. We waited around in our locker room till 10 a.m., then went up to the gym for the practice, which was an hour. After that, we all showered and changed and left for the media room by 11:30 a.m. to review game film and strategies. After a long 2 and a half hours we met for a large lunch prepared by the coach s wife. We all ate as much as we could so we only had to eat lightly before the 7 p.m. game. By 3:30 p.m. we all had gathered in the locker room to prepare for the match. Guys were making jokes and goofing around trying to lighten the anxiety of the upcoming contest. 4:30 p.m. came and most of the guys went to the trainer s room to get stretched, heat packs, and taped up. 5:55 p.m., we left the locker room ... • 4. The Dream Act The Public Policy of Illegal Immigration? Introduction Is higher education an entitlement? As a daughter of immigrants, this question can not be answered by a simple yes or no. Every area of policy is multifaceted. Every idea about policy draws certain boundaries in the realm of politics and in the debate of social and economic legislation. Ideas tell what or who is included or excluded in a category. (Stone). The rationale of public policy is taking a complex agenda, situation or idea and attempting to scale it back into main points, arguments and agendas. Furthermore, an issue is placed on the agenda, and a problem gets defined...alternative solutions are proposed, analyzed, legitimized, selected and refined. A solution is implemented... (Stone 10 11). In this instance, reducing any answer to a simple yes or no response fails to capture different points of views and different ideas and the diverse amount of forces at play. Matters of community, loyalty and public interest almost always ignore the school of rationale thought. For this purpose, using the very ambiguous label of Americans , we all must reconcile our social perceptions of what was believed to be our American heritage for what it visibly is. • 7. Humanoid Robots According to Heather Knight, back in the initiation of the industrial revolution, robotic machines meant automation; a field that requested devices to perform and serve more efficiently than humans. In these modern days, technology and innovation underscored a different design obligation: how robots and people can work better together. But the problem that coincides is, humanoid robots are portraying a more anthropoid appearance which makes it look too horrifying to humans: the sentiment whether or not humanized robots would bond with human beings. In fact, a vague social design can stipulate people not to construe or interact with machines. According to Uncanny Valley, a useful rubric introduced by robotic designers explained that making a device that looks similar to humans is substantial to an extent. That said, humanoid robots would retain prolonging in a discomfort zone until technology achieves anthropoid likeness that emblems all, emotions and intelligence similar to humans.Zombies, for example, portrayed the human descriptive. But people feel intimidated by them even though they are unrealistic objects. Why? Because the behavior is not entirely human, and thus, human perceived them differently, Knight said.Thereby, the interdisciplinary of the eunuchs in the medieval Islamic empires serves to promote a coherent portrayal; displaying how the social performance of the elite slaves had incorporated to envisage them, identically, by the view of the freemen.Regardless of ... • 9. Themes Of Honor In A Tale Of Two Cities Ashlyn Tilby Miss. Tao Honors English 10 1 October 2017 What of Honor? Some would say that honor is a thing of the past; a thing long since extinct with the King Arthur and the knights of the round table. In fact, it is not, it is real and can still be seen all around through people all the time. In Charles Dicken s novel, A Tale of Two Cities, honor and dishonor are main themes that are exemplified and enacted through many characters. To be honorable, or to act in honor, is to act in a way that is not necessarily socially acceptable, but is morally right, noble, and kind. To be dishonorable is to neglect the basic responsibility of treating every human being in the respectful manner they deserve, giving no variance to rank or status. Throughout the book different men show varying degrees of honor and dishonor. One such man was Charles Darnay, who, throughout the entire novel, was a prime example of honor and merit. In the early part of the novel, Darnay pays a visit to his oppressive uncle who was a French Marquis, and responsible for the death and poverty of many of his subjects. Darnay went to the Marquis on behalf of those being oppressed by his family member; beseeching his uncle to have mercy and act with benevolence toward those peasants he disregarded so easily. Darnay, unable to convince his uncle of the need to change his ways left his home country for good to be free of his family s misdeeds. • 11. Essay about The Effects of Runoff to Marine Life Runoff is defined as excess water that soil does not absorb after a storm. Runoff collects various particles on its way downhill, such as pesticides and nutrients, from the surrounding area, and moves them into the nearby bodies of water. Some nutrients carried by runoff include: nitrate, ammonium, and phosphate; all of which are found in golf course turf fertilizer (experiment). When these excess chemicals enter the water, they create an imbalance in the ecosystem. This imbalance can be harmful to inhabitants both in, and around the body of water. Those affected in the water may be subjected to a decrease in dissolved oxygen levels, making it harder for the animals to breath. The levels of acidity in the water may increase, causing ... Sliva and Dudley Williams gathered information that with increased urban land use, there were increased chemical fluxes, and their data they gathered from increased agricultural land use disagreed with the results of other similar studies. They determined major trends in water quality and where pollution could potentially be derived from (Sliva Dudley Williams, 2001). It is a known fact that unnecessary amounts of lawn fertilizer, containing nitrogen and phosphorus, are commonly used, and result in pollution of the Chesapeake Bay. This occurs through runoff. Not all of the nutrients from runoff get transported directly to the Bay. Overtime, some are absorbed into the ground, where they mix with groundwater, and later meets up with the Bay. For example, in a stream near Baltimore, scientists discovered that 56% of the nutrients in the water came from lawn fertilizer alone (Chesapeake Bay Program, 2011). Nitrogen and phosphorus are not only the primary nutrients in lawn fertilizer, they are also the primary nutrients required to sustain aquatic biological productivity, in the correct moderation. In freshwater ecosystems, the growth of phytoplankton and algae are influenced by a surplus of nitrogen and phosphorus. Aquatic grasses living under this excess growth are then inhibited from growing, eventually leading towards grass bed loss, due to the lack of sunlight available. Lack of sunlight results in a lack of photosynthesis. Unlike the more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He conjectured that the id, ego, and superego were three main constituents of every individual, (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2013). Freud believed that these three components might strive for different goals at times, which leads to struggle and anxiety that the conscious limits with the use of defense mechanisms, (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2013). Defense mechanisms also known as ego defense mechanisms, mental maneuvers that aid in pacifying anxiety in the unconscious rather than dealing with the worrisome physical situation itself, (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2013). I study the material and take extensive notes; however, when I have to take tests I have an immense amount of anxiety. I go through the test and I go back through the test a second and sometimes third time to see if I can correct answers that I felt, I did not know. Each time I do this, I find that I end up changing answers that were correct to incorrect. I have gotten extremely upset in the past because I have done poorly on tests and I will be upset enough to be snippy with my husband and kids rather than myself for changing answers I thought were accurate, but I second guessed myself. My children were extremely noisy or arguing while I was taking the test and my husband did not stop their bickering, so I had to step away from the timed tests to discipline them. Furthermore, this upset me and I would lay the blame on my husband for his lack of action to keep the girls quiet while I was testing or take them out of the house. Ultimately, I could have tried to take the test at a different time when no one was home or I could have not gone back and changed answers. My using displacement made me feel better about my not doing well because I put part of the blame on my husband or children. Now days, I take my quizzes when no one else is home and I still need to work on not going back to change answers, but at least I am owning my mistakes and finding alternative ways to lessen my test anxiety. The third defense mechanism, repression, is something that I also have utilized tremendously. According to Jones, repression was one of Freud s most distinguished and innovative contributions to psychoanalysis, (as cited in Hunt, 2007). Many Americans blame technology for making goods so plentiful, schooling so accessible, diversion so easy, and liberties so copious (Bauerlein). History of REST Since 1994, the REST architectural style has been used to guide the design and development of the architecture for the modern Web (Roy T. Fielding, 2000) When HTTP , Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI), was being developed by the Internet Engineering Taskforce there was a need for a model to be created of how the WWW should actually work. This idealized model of the interactions within a web application, is what was then later referred to as the Representational State Transfer (REST) architectural style and it became the foundation for the modern Web architecture, providing the guiding principles by which flaws in the preexisting architecture could be identified and extensions validated prior to deployment. In my opinion, it is a good way to illustrate history to students because history can be pretty dry if not taught correctly, and movies help to make it more entertaining. The hint half guessed, the gift half understood, is/ Incarnation. /Here the impossible union/of spheres of existence is actual,/ Here past and future/ Are conquered, and reconciled, . The Incarnation provides the only instance wherein time and eternity collide, and co exist. The Incarnation allows time past, time present, and time yet to come a simultaneous existence. However, the implications of simultaneity drastically change reality, both for Einstein and for Eliot. Einstein s theory allowed for strange realizations, such as light is both a particle and a wave at the same time and in the same way, which seems to break the foundational law of non contradiction. Eliot s realization that the Incarnation redeems all time by allowing it all to exist together, seems to face the same problem. However, this seemingly self referential absurdity may spring from nothing more than the frame of reference from within which Eliot and Einstein work. Just as time and eternity are separate and distant entities to the normal observer, the observer on the event horizon sees them as the same thing simultaneously. Perhaps, when viewed from the frame of reference of the Incarnation, these absurdities resolve into clarity, for here the impossible union of spheres of existence is ... • 40. Summary Of Gun Control This week, I chose an article about gun s control. The article was written by Kelin Emmett and reviewed by Firmin DeBrabander . Their opinion contradicts the opinion of some in saying that the right to have a weapon makes a society free. The authors accuse the fear to make it pro gun. This is not freedom. The authors also criticize the media by encouraging fear. The article claims that the communities most affected by violence approve the control of the guns, and the areas least affected by violence often celebrated the guns as emblematic of freedom. My opinion about the subject of this article is: I agree with the authors about having the power to have a gun don t give you freedom. If you want a gun, this means you have a fear of something ... • 41. Distracted Driving (Psas) Each day in the United States, 8 people on average are killed in a distracted driving related accident (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016). Distracted driving can constitute anything from talking on the phone to reaching for a fallen object while driving. One way people have been fighting to combat the deadliness of distracted driving is through PSAs. PSAs are Public Service Announcements, like commercials, that warn people of dangerous activities and heighten their awareness of a problem. Even if people think no one pays attention to PSAs, if even one person saw and understood a PSA, it would make a difference. PSAs are an important part of the prevention of distracted driving because it heightens peoples awareness of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Around 90% of participants in a study on reception of PSAs understood the PSA eyes on the road hands on the wheel to mean either stay alert or don t drive distracted (US Department of Transportation, 2017). This implies that PSAs certainly get their message across when they are viewed. On average, at least 70% of participants recognized a seat belt PSA, so PSAs stick in the memory of those who view them (US Department of Transportation, 2017). According to the US Department of Transportation (2017), around 60% participants agreed that it was often or always necessary for dynamic PSA signs on roads. In addition, the majority of participants strongly agreed that it was very important to provide information on putting away mobile phones while driving. This shows that people are aware of the problem of distracted driving, and agree that awareness of this problem in others is extremely important. Finally, the participants were asked if would change their behavior if they saw a PSA that said eyes on the road, hands on the wheel , don t be a distracted driver , or drive safely, text later it can wait . The overwhelming majority answered maybe, probably yes, or definitely yes (US Department of Transportation, 2017). PSAs do make a huge difference in driving behavior and give people a reminder of the consequences of distracted driving. The more immediate a reminder, the more it will affect your behavior, so PSAs on signs are even more effective than those viewed on television or in other advertising. PSAs are important parts of preventing dangerous behavior like distracted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Former Mental Patients Former mental patients must reach out and find a proper support system to help them remain on their medication and sane. A study preformed in Tokyo by Kido, Yoshifumi; Kawakami, Norito; Miyamoto, Yuki; Chiba, Rie; Tsuchiya, Masao (2013) showed that former patients that reside in more tight knit, willing to help communities will find the transition less threatening because of their expectations of receiving help from their neighbors. Yoshifumi, Norito, Yuki, Rie, and Masao (2013) also reported, People living in a community with high trust might generalize their feelings of trust to people with mental illness and perceive them as trustworthy as a part of the community. It is believed that the majority American public hold the beliefs that the mentally ill are unpredictable, irrational, dangerous, bizarre, incompetent, and unkempt , and these stereotypes have only strengthened from the 1950s to the present. (Thoits, 2011) Despite educational campaigns, there is still a strong desire among the public to keep a social distance from the mentally ill in an attempt to avoid awkward social interactions. Studies have shown that there s a direct correlation between discrimination and low self esteem issues among mental patients. Low self esteem is also linked to negative health effects. Not all patients who experienced social rejection report a low self worth. It is stated that patients who experienced social rejection already demonstrated low self worth and self esteem issues. Some studies even find that stigmatized patients have a very high self esteem. (Thoits, 2011) A study done by National Alliance for the Mentally Ill consumers, Wahl (1999) expressed that eighteen percent of the sample took the stigma as a form of empowerment. Another study done by Lysaker (2007) showed that patients with a high insight on their stigma were associated with lower depression, lower quality of life, and lower self esteem. It was also found that these associations are stronger for patients with a high self stigma than for those with a low self stigma. Low ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Collaboration of Buying Suppliers in South African... While there is a varied amount of sectors and/or industries that have major issues and concerns, the automotive industry in South Africa is a present issue that needs to be considered, (Naude Weiss, 2011). The OEMs in South Africa are BMW (3 series), Ford (Ranger pickup from 2011), GM (Corsa pickup, Isuzu pickup), Mercedez Benz (C Class), Nissan/Renault (various sedans and pickups), Toyota (Corolla 4 door and Hilux pickup), Volkswagen (new and old Polo), (Pitot, 2010). Government persuade and pressurize automotive assemblers to increase local content but the reality of the situation is that there local manufacturers aren t as competitive as they would like to be or they aren t as competitive as those suppliers and automotive assemblers internationally. The reason being is supply chain issues cause inefficiencies that impact a local automotive assembler to gain competitiveness, (Naude Weiss, 2011). The most common drivers of demand distortion are unforeseen sales promotion which have a ripple effect on the supply chain, lack of customer confidence and cancellations of orders, (Lysons, 2003). To remain competitive, the automotive industry needs to decrease costs and enhance customer service levels. Some complexities they may face is rising fuel prices and high manpower costs which negatively influences the cost of living in today s society. The reason South Africa is not competitive is due to the low percentage of local content in a final product), (Pitot, 2010). If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Spanning through time, we have seen an incalculable amount of talented musicians that have transformed our world; unfortunately, a copious amount of their work was unable to be captured as the technology was not advanced enough. • 45. APA Style Analysis APA Style Sample APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines. It is formatted like MLA, and shows many similarities, but is unique in several key points. APA uses parenthetical (or in text) citations within sentences, but rather than indicating the author s name and page number, APA includes author s name and date of publication. The page number, represented with a p. or a pp., is only added to the citation when using a direct quote (not a summary or paraphrase). If the author s name is mentioned in the sentence, then place the date of publication in parentheses directly after the name. If the name is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All of the interviewees have been called exceptions to the norm (Strong amp; Porter, 1998, p. 565). Note the first example paraphrases an author that is named in the sentence, the second example paraphrases authors that are not named in the sentence, and the third example provides a direct quote (thus the inclusion of the page numbers) but also does not identify the authors within the sentence. If the authors were identified within the sentence in the third example, the authors names would be followed by the year of publication and only the page numbers would be in the parentheses at the end of the quote. Finally, the bibliographic page in APA style differs from MLA, what APA calls the Reference page. You will notice a few immediate differences from the MLA Works Cited format. With APA you include the initial of the author s first name rather than the complete name, the publication date immediately follows the author s name in parentheses, and titles of articles are not surrounded with quotation marks (however titles of books, magazines, journals, etc are still underlined). The lists are still alphabetized by author s last name (or title in the absence of an author) and the first line is flush left while subsequent lines in the same entry are indented in (approximately 5 spaces or one tab). For journals and magazines, publication title and volume number are both underlined, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
