Haitian Voodoo History
When we cerebrate of Haitian vodou, often associated with the popular spelling voodoo, we
incline to have a falsified ideal of this cherished spiritual practice, in all that it embodies and
genuinely represents. The peregrine perception of vodou practice has an perpetual reputation that
associates this form of spiritual worship with dark magic, witches, and acts of conflicting pain on
individuals utilizing dolls and needles. These misconceptions have been formulated over the
course of many years; popular films and literature are the main cause in today s society.
Historically peregrine perspectives commenced the misconstruction of voodoo as a diabolic
practice in an endeavor to oppress the unknown. As a people we fear what we do not ken... Show

Since the price of oil has been falling like free ball, the government must take into consideration
that it is essential to keep the value of Canadian currency low in order to improve exports when
trading with other countries.
Poloz will keep his benchmark overnight rate at 1 per cent Dec. 3 according to all 22 economists
surveyed by Bloomberg News through Nov. 28, stretching the pause that began with Mark Carney
in 2010. That would make it the longest since February 1944 to September 1950, exceeding the
October 1950 to January 1955 hiatus.
Explanation:
The bank s optimal objective is to keep the overnight interest rate between 1 to 3 per cents.
According to equilibrium in the market for reserves graph, the overnight rate is determined by
the interest rate paid by excess or insufficient reserves. In this case, the interest rate as low as one
per cent implies that the interest rate paid by reserves is equal to the overnight interest rate. Even
if the Bank of Canada accidently set up the overnight interest rate at 2 per cents, this rate would
fall in order to lower the opportunity cost of holding reserves, excess reserves would be demanded
by parties who are interested in taking advantage of.
The period of unchanged rates does say something about the depth of the financial crisis and the
anemic recovery, said Eric

John Updike In Football Season Analysis
In Football Season Green grass under the display of bright field lights. Late on a friday night.
The scent of popcorn overflows out of the concession stand and into the stands. Students paint
each others skin until it is caked like glue. Many people that grew up in America can recall these
descriptions with ease. A certain smell or feeling can often take people back to a vivid memory in
life. In his short story In Football Season, John Updike uses various literary elements to illustrate
his themes of reminiscing and the perception of time to take the narrator back to a time he
remembers so eloquently, football season at his local high school. First, Updike does an incredible
job of using imagery to paint a detailed canvas in the mind of... Show more content on

He creates a themes based on the perception of time and reminiscing on good times. He misses
the time he had in high school on those friday nights. People often reminisce on memories in
their past and realize that those beloved moments are long gone. This is put on display when
Updike ends his story with Girls walk by me carrying their invisible bouquets from fields still
steeped in grace, and i look up in the manner of one who follows with his eye the passage of a
hearse, and remembers what pierces him (125). The invisible bouquets are his recollection of
their fragrance wrapped in front of their arms(125). He then provides the metaphor of watching
those thoughts disappearing like the passage of a hearse. His memories are dead and pass by
him in the back of a hearse. Everyone experiences these same moments of reminisce. However,
time seems to move in slow motion as he recalls his teenage years, a span of moments that appear
to be endless. Now, tuning the corner into adulthood, we found time to be instead a black
immensity endlessly supplied, like the wind (Updike 124). This is how the Narrator describes time

Dangers Of Junk Food Essay
The Dangers in the Food We Love The junk food we love can be so harmful to our beautiful
bodies. Do you really think people make good decisions in choosing what they want to eat?
Men, women and even children know the difference in foods which can affect one s health. With
no hesitation an individual will daringly eat a food without knowing the calories taken within
that one burger. Within the 70 s till our generation now a person will see an image or hear
someone say you will win an award for eating a 19,900 calorie burger, way more calories
consumed than is supposed to. As years go by the portions of the food goes up such as the
prices. Our generation needs to take consideration in our health because what we consume now,
can affect us majorly in the future. 18 26 year olds have to be the ones to change what is
consumed in their daily lifestyles. The average lifespan for our generation will be approximately
70 years old, shorter than the span of our parents which live up to there 100 s just because of the
way us individuals eat. In The New War Of Obesity, Barry Popkin, Ph.D., notes that taxation of

A well organized transportation system decreases overheads, while a disorganized transportation
system increases expenditures (Gerdes, 2008). The effects of transportation are not at all times
anticipated, and can include unintended or unforeseen impacts like congestion. Transport as
well carries a vital environmental and social load that cannot be ignored. The additional values
along with employment impacts of transport services generally extend past employment as well
as added value created by that activity; indirect impacts are most important. For instance,
transportation firms buy a fraction of their effort from local dealers. The manufacturing of these
inputs creates additional value added as well as job opportunities in the local market. The sellers
in turn buy goods and services from other local companies. There are added rounds of local re
spending that produce additional value added in addition to employment. In the same way, homes
that get revenue from jobs created in transport activities use some of their earnings on local
supplies as well as services. These acquisitions result in extra local employment and added value.
A number of of the household earnings from these additional jobs is subsequently used up on local
commodities and services, thus creating more jobs as well as income for local homes. Because of

Benefits Of Using New Virtual Technologies
Today s economy has become a global one due to the use of the internet. Traditional companies are
accepting the mission of using new virtual technologies in their business since the use of the
internet has opened larger and advantageous international markets. Proud of the costly
infrastructure, traditional companies are finding themselves being eclipsed by smaller companies
that have used the internet to attract new customers. In order to achieve great results, companies in
today s economy are obligated to embrace the use of the internet (Markus, T. 2008).
In recent years, larger companies have included more and more online processes because customers
are becoming more engaged with the internet, wanting to do everything by themselves. By cutting
much of the traditional companies expenses through the use of eCommerce, virtual companies are
stealing established companies market by offering better prices in the online market. According to
Markus, T. (2008), e commerce is an electronic market in which electronic sellers and buyers gather
in order to negotiate for products and services. E commerce gives the consumer multiple options
since the Internet contains endless number of products and services (Markus, T. 2008). Netflixis a
good example of an e commerce industry. Founded in 1997 by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings
in Scotts Valley, California, Netflix Inc. was a movie rental business by mail as many other offline

Difference Between Pilgrims And Puritans
As we have learned so far there were two groups of people that came to the new world in search
of religious freedom. First were the pilgrims who arrived in small numbers upon the mayflower in
1620. The second group was the puritans. Who were the puritans? The puritans were similar to their
cousins the pilgrims, but also had many differences between them as well.
For instance only 102 pilgrims came to the new world, while thousands of puritans came to the
new world. By 1776 almost seventy five percent of the population of America was of puritan
society. The puritans were well educated and over one hundred of the puritans went to oxford for
schooling while the pilgrims were highly uneducated. Another difference between these two groups

first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, the chief figure among the Puritan founders of New
England. At age 17 he married his first of four wives. And within in his lifetime he had sixteen
children. He was an ardently religious person. From his early teens Winthrop threw himself into
scriptural study and prayers, and gradually he trained himself into a full fledged Puritan, convinced
that God had elected him to salvation or, in Puritan terms, to sainthood. When, in 1629, the
Massachusetts Bay Company obtained a royal charter to plant a colony in New England, Winthrop
joined the company, pledging to sell his English estate and take his family to Massachusetts if the
company government and charter were also transferred to America. For the remaining 19 years of
his life, Winthrop lived in the New England wilderness, a father figure among the colonists. In the
annual Massachusetts elections he was chosen governor 12 times between 1631 and 1648, and
during the intervening years he sat on the court of assistants or colony

Hellenism In Ancient Greece
In ancient Greece, around 500 B.C.E, the culture was revolving around gods and goddesses. The
lifestyles and actions of the people of Greece had an interdependence with the common belief of
Hellenism. By understanding that many Greeks looked to their gods and goddesses in most
aspects of their life, we can better understand how Greek culture worked as a whole. This can be
seen specifically in AthensGreece. In Athens they looked to the Goddess Athenain particular
because she was their patron Goddess. During this time a sculptor, named Phidias, sculpted a grand
statue called the Athena Parthenos. The Athena Parthenos was viewed as an actual incarnation of
the Goddess Athena, and symbolize victory in wars that ultimately create peace and harmony....

another symbol of war. The Goddess Athena was very intelligent and powerful in war, and viewed
war as a way to achieve peace, versus just fighting to be violent. *footnote* This very powerful

How Does Malvolio Present Olivia Throughout The Play
In the play Twelfth Night , Malvolio is a steward for Lady Olivia. He s very in love with her and
only she has to deal with it. On the other hand, Olivia is plainly not in love with him; she is in
love with Cesario. He tries everything to try and win her love but he also has a negative attitude
towards others. Malvolio s behavior is unacceptable and other people shouldn t have to deal with
it. Other characters in the play strongly dislike Malvolio. When Olivia isn t around he thinks and

that... she s nothing allied to your disorder about Sir Toby (W.S 23). Even when he comes into

respect than any one else that follows her (W.S 30).With that he s saying that Olivia treats him
like a king and puts him over top of everyone. The only reason why Olivia had to deal with him
is because he is her steward. A reason why I think she only puts up with Malvolio is that he will

Teen Suicide Papers
Adolescent Suicide The rate of suicide, the act or an instance of taking one s own life voluntarily
and intentionally, increases each year. More adolescents die each year from suicide than from
cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease,
combined (Preventing Teen Suicide, 2016, p.2). These facts show suicide is a serious problem
among teens. Last year, teen suicide became the second leading cause of death in the United States
confirming the significant increase in teen suicides.
Causes and Reasons Causes of suicide vary but as technology advances new causes are apparent.
Social media plays a major role in causes of suicide. Technology allows cyber bullying to happen
frequently and recur until something or someone stops it. Victims of bullying often think they
have no way out of their situation or feel like there is no help. People with suicidal thoughts
struggle either mentally, physically, or emotionally. Three million children are absent from
school each month due to bullying. Twenty percent of those bullied kids have suicidal thoughts
(Bullying and Suicide, 2016, p.1). Media s such as snapchat, instagram, twitter, or facebook all
provide factual information about previous cases of suicide. Cyberbullying is a serious problem
especially among adolescent girls. Girls are more likely than boys to attempt suicide due to
cyberbullying, because girls are struggling to find themselves as a person (Bichell, 2013, p. 3).
Any form of negativity or put down affects them, and who they are trying to become. Teens who
experienced traumatic events in their childhood are more likely to commit suicide. According to
The Mayo Clinic ( 2017), studies show that teens who are victims of divorce, rape, or abuse are at
a higher risk of attempting suicide. However, teens with mental health issues are most likely to
commit suicide. Depression is the leading cause in health issues among teens. Deriving from home
life, alcohol and drug use, friendships, school, and other attributes.
Risk Factors and Warning Signs
Teen s behavior is a major warning sign of suicide or suicidal thoughts. Many factors play into an
adolescent s behavior and attitude determining the way they

Hedging Currency Risk at Aifs
Summary
AIFS is an American based company that offers travel abroad and exchange study services to both
college and high school students. While AIFS s revenues are denominated in American Dollars
(USD), most of their costs are in foreign currencies as Euros (EUR) and British Pounds (GBP).
Consequently, foreign exchange hedging has a crucial importance for the company because it
provides protection against different types of risk that derive from its activity.
In order to reduce risk, the company is using two hedging derivatives: forward contracts and put
options to sell dollars. The aim of the paper is to determine an appropriate hedging policy which
answers two main questions: how much to hedge, and in what proportions of forwards ... Show

Then, we took into consideration only a fluctuation of the exchange rate. The scenarios that we
analyzed covers different positions of the dollar against the euro: weak dollar (USD 1,48/EUR),
stable dollar (USD 1,22/EUR) and strong dollar (USD 1,01/EUR). Different coverage of costs with
hedging was also introduced in the analysis. The three main policies are of not hedging, 100%
hedging with forward contracts and 100% hedging with options.
All the future computations are in comparison with the impact zero scenario of a rate of USD
1,22/EUR and a volume of 25 000 sales. (Exhibit 2)
If the company chooses not to hedge the costs, and the dollar weakens against the euro reaching a
rate of USD 1,48/EUR, then it will encounter losses of $6,500,000 (Exhibit 1). On the other hand,
if the dollar strengthens to the level of USD 1,01/EUR, then the company will register a gain of
$5,250,000. (Exhibit 3)
But, even though the possibility of winning exists, the company is exposed to a greater risk if it
does not hedge. Moreover, the policy of the company is to ensure against the risk, not to speculate
on the foreign exchange market.
Exhibit 7 from the case study describes the currency development in medium term of the GBP and
EURO against the dollar. We can observe that the currencies are exposed to high volatility, which
means the company may register greater risk

Joseph R. Desjardins Views On Sustainability And Ethics

to not agree with his views; due to the fact I feel like his view on society will increase

Who wouldn t like to see a society that promoted ethics and sustainability? This just simply can t
happen because of the culture business had since the beginning of time. Business has always been
about find new ways to increase profits, there are very few business that actually care about the
consumer. The things we hate about successful business owners are the things that have made
them successful. Business owners have been so use to do with they know so what makes
Desjardins believe they will change the habits that has always worked for them. The change to
having business more sustainable is a dream that I would like to come true, but unfortunately that
will never happen because of the greed and cut throat attitudes that business owners have. If
businesses continue to make money the way they are accustom to; what will make them change?
I believe if more business become sustainable and gather a strong following from the consumer;
then the envy that greedy business owners have will kick in and then they will convert over to
sustainable changes in order to make profit. Hopefully one day we the people will be able to see
this sustainable and ethical dream seen in too

Ups vs Fedex Analytical Report
COMMUNICATION COMPARISON
FedEx vs. UPS
Background:
The basis of the analytical report will be comparing Fed Ex and the United Postal Service
(UPS). These two companies are the top in their industry. Each company trying to achieve the
role of the industry leader they constantly battle head to head combining strategy and brute force.
Fed Ex was incorporated in 1971, but did not officially begin operations until April of 1973. Fed
Ex started out delivering to only 25 cities and did not start to expand until 1977. UPS was
founded in 1907 starting out with a Model T Ford and a few motorcycles. UPS has since grown
its fleet into 15,000+ trucks along with a large fleet of aircrafts and services over 200 countries and

ground employees covered by a railroad and airline law. Most of the forces are from moderate to
low besides the threat of intense rivalry which signals that this is an attractive industry to be within.
Business Level Strategy:
From the beginning UPS and FedEx both had very different strategies in the delivery industry.
UPS was focused on ground transportation, as more of a substitute for United States Postal
Service. UPS has over 100,000 ground transportation vehicles compared to only 20,000 ground
vehicles in service at FedEx. The focus of FedEx has always been to be an air delivery company
that is trying to pursue a strategy of being able to deliver a parcel the next day. FedEx proves this
focus with nearly 700 jets in service compared to only 300 at rival UPS. FedEx and UPS both
say the market of overnight delivery as the direction to pursue. UPS was able to accept this and
move forward allowing its ground department to absorb the expense, while FedEx suffered a great
deal and we hit with higher cost do to them having to hire independent contractors. Over the years,
these two companies have changed their overall positioning strategy in the domestic delivery
industry. As

and settled versions about ethnic origin of Etruscan people. The most popular are following two
versions: 1. Etruscans are local people, who lived on Apennine peninsula. This was mentioned by

would echo across the mountain caverns. As we walked further into the mountain, we got to see
different parts of the fall at every level and there were all these really cool shaped caverns. In
order to see the rest of the falls, we had to walk outside down the mountain and every time we
came around the corner there would be the falls in the shape of funky spirals or turns. Plus, as we
walked down the mountain, I could see all the way across the valley with cows grazing on

How Is Bernard Presented In Brave New World
Huxley uses contrast to reveal distinctive features of a character. In his famous novel, Brave New
World, the protagonist, Bernard Marx, is revealed to the reader through various contrasting
characters. Bernard is an atypical Alpha Plus male in the Society. For example, he is physically
different from Helmholtz Watson and Henry Foster; he and Helmholtz also contrast personality
wise; and the Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning (the DHC) is not only the professional foil of
Bernard, but also has a different mindset than him.
Firstly, Bernard s physical appearance is quite different from other Alpha Plus males. Helmholtz is
quite tall, has a large frame and physique, making females attracted to him. He is every centimeter

The DHC knowingly leaves Linda at the Savage Reservation. He knows that had he not done so,
he may be stuck in Malpais if he missed his flight home. Had he continued searching for her, he
may have been accused of being too attached to her a costly indiscretion. The DHC thinks his
decision through, compared to Bernard who barely conforms, scarcely meeting Society s
standards. Bernard does not enjoy having people constantly, which is conformist behaviour in the
Society, nor does he participate in all recreational activities, such as obstacle golf. Therefore, the
DHC conforms all the time compared to Bernard who is not interest in doing so, preferring to
spend much of his leisure time either alone or with his only friend,

Racial Profiling Complications
Complications Faced in a Partial Society
Throughout history, the issue of racial equality has caused members of ethnic minorities to suffer
for decades. Many people of color have struggled to obtain their civil liberties and achieve social
justice within their community when faced with bigotry and prejudice based on their ethnicity. The
United States, a nation where immigrants make up two tenths of the population, still suffers from
this issue today amongst many ethnic and racial minorities from police officials who practice the
idea of racial profiling when interrogating potential suspects (Kirk). Racial profiling has been
intensified since the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center and The Pentagon. Arabs,
Muslims, and South Asians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it may seem that the concept might not exist because it is often referred to the idea of
racist perspectives and judgments. According to retired professional basketball player Charles
Barkley, he mentioned in a CNN interview that we as black people, we have a lot of crooks. We can
t just wait until something threatens or hurts a person of minority. We have to look at ourselves
in the mirror and continues stating that there is a reason that they racially profile us in the way
they do. Sometimes it is wrong, and sometimes it is right (Cobb). Barkley s statement presents
the idea that racial profiling is utilized toward certain racial groups and ethnic minorities through
the idea of implicit stereotypes where groups are categorized based on their qualities and social
features. He wants the black community to understand that they are cast away from other racial
groups because of how they are recognized both physically and stereotypically. The idea of racial
profiling is used in certain circumstances to show that police officials will use their racial insight to
identify an individual who would be suspected of committing illegal acts based on their racial
identity or religious background. In addition, Rudolph Giuliani addressed on a Fox News Sunday
interview that the relationship between police officers and the black community have poor
interaction with one another because of the police department s lack of responsibility to properly
train their officers and to diversify the department (Cobb). However, Giuliani also adds that it is the
black community s responsibility to understand the reason why police officers gather in large
groups within their community. Statistics show that African Americans commit eight times as
many murders compared to other racial groups (Cobb). It is important

Motor Vehicles and Speed Limits in the United States
Since the first gasoline powered vehicle was invented, automobile technology has advanced at a
rapid pace to bring us faster, safer vehicles (Managing Speed). Roads have improved from dirt
and gravel to asphalt and concrete, and the number of vehicles on the road has increased
exponentially. The motor vehicle has become the backbone of today s society. Speed limits in
the United States are at the highest they have ever been, yet vehicles today are powerful enough
to easily exceed those posted speed limits. There are two very different groups of people
advocating for what a reasonable speed limit is: a group lobbying for extreme safety and a group
lobbying for faster travel times. Driving is an inherently risky undertaking no matter what the
speed limit is, thus a compromise is tried to be met by increasing safety while allowing for
practical travel times. There have been various methodologies theorized in setting speed limits,
but which one is the best for today s technologies and environments? Speed limits in the state of
Virginia are set using the Operating Speed Method. The Operating Speed method, or 85th
percentile method, uses the speed that 85 percent of free flowing traffic is at or below. The 85th
percentile method relies on driver judgment and collects the vast majority of motorists traveling
on the roadway. If the speed limit was set 5 MPH below the 85th percentile speed, more than 50%
of drivers would be illegally speeding, but if the speed limit was increased 5

Analysis Of Susan Glaspell s Trifles Essay
In any form of writing, various literary elements come together to compose a thorough and
multifaceted work of literature. All the elements serve a distinct purpose; symbolism, for one, is
imperative in a literary work because it aids the reader in the overall comprehension of the
particular theme or multiple themes that a story is trying to convey. In Susan Glaspell s, Trifles,
she meticulously incorporates significant symbols that help the reader recognize and construe the
depth of the significance of the jarof fruit preserves, quilt, bird, and the bird cage. Things are not
always as insignificant as they appear to be, and Glaspell s play is a prime example of how
important it is to read between the lines. A central theme in Glaspell s play is gender obedience,
displayed seemingly by Mrs. Wright. Because the focus of Mrs. Wright s life, as a wife,
revolved around maintaining fruit preserves, we can conclude that her primary concern for the
state of the jar of preserves was more significant that the mere thought of frozen fruit. The jars of
fruit preserves were Mrs. Wright s escape and distraction; something she had control over and
something she could call her own. This is why the women understood why she would be so
concerned about her preserves even in the midst of a legal predicament. MRS. PETERS. [To the
other woman.] Oh, her fruit; it did freeze. [To the County Attorney] She worried about that when it
turned so cold. She said the fire d go out and her

Black Holes Informative Speech
Have you ever heard of something getting sucked up in a black hole? Did it ever cross your
mind as to what a black hole actually was? Well, a black hole is a rather large star that underwent
a supernova explosion and since there was no gravity it collapsed in on itself. It is a big hole of
nothingness that stays in outer space but does not suck up everything. Now lets get into more of
the facts about black holes.
As previously stated, what does one think when they hear the words black hole? A giant hole that is
pitch black and sucks anything and everything up inside of it perhaps? Maybe even a something
along the lines of a vortex or black whirlpool type thing that destroys everything. A black hole is
similar to the thoughts above, but more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are three main types of black holes, stellar, supermassive, and miniature, or primordial
ones. Stellar black holes are enormous stars that have run out of nuclear fuel, which then creates
an unsteady situation. The outer layers then proceed to explode in a supernova leaving the
middle to implode essentially creating a black hole if the star was large enough. Said to be the
collapse of a compact cluster of stars, supermassive black holes are revealed to astronomers by
rapid moving gas jets that point towards the massive holes typically in the center of galaxies. The
Space Telescope Science Institution (STSCI) even says that there might be one in the center of
our own galaxy, the Milky Way. They also say that the constellation Sagittarius, in the summer, is
the direction of the center of our galaxy if one was to look at it. When substances cross the event
horizon of the black hole it increases the mass of it, which expands the horizon, this means it is
larger and can grab things farther away. Lastly, is the mini black holes that the STSCI and along
with various theories believe might have been formed in the early universe, the Big Bang, which
is the moment the universe was believed to be created. The event horizons of these black holes are
quite small, the width of an atomic particle. They can only hold up to the amount of matter of Mt.

The novel, Wuthering Heights , begins in the year 1801, where we as readers are firstly introduced
to the character Mr. Lockwood. Mr.
Lockwood narrates the entire novel throughout, almost like an entry in his diary.
Lockwood, a young London gentleman, is a newcomer to the Yorkshire
Moors, Wuthering Heights. The novel opens after he has just returned from a visit with his landlord

After reading this first page, I was intrigued by Mr. Lockwood s character. He missed all the
obvious signs that Heathcliff did not want to invite him into his home, that he was not comfortable
speaking to him or that he had an unfriendly nature. Lockwood, who comes from a more
domesticated region of England finds himself in a less sociable area. My impression is that
Lockwood is interested about the people and about the setting, he wishes to learn more about them
by how he shows curiosity.
I felt interested in a man who seemed more exaggeratedly reserved than myself.
Once Lockwood has been granted permission, grudgingly by Heathcliff, he enters his house. He
encounters an incident with some of
Heathcliff s dogs, although Heathcliff did warn him about them, to which he pulls faces provoking
them to attack him, to which neither
Heathcliff or the servant Joseph seems to bother about. Fortunately for Lockwood, a female servant
comes and shoos the dogs away.
Although Lockwood is not injured, he appears to sulk in a childish manner, resulting in Healthcliff
making up for this incident when he sees how angry Lockwood is. Wine is offered, and a
conversation is brought about. Lockwood s foolish character analysis and bad judgement of
Heathcliff prompts him to think of returning to

was coming, so when he pulled up and entered the CP, he was surprised to see him. The two men
over the past several weeks had become friends, mutual respect for their military accomplishments

If I Never Met A Jerk Summary
The author s main point of view is defining what a jerk looks, sounds and presents itself. A jerk
doesn t mean he is unintelligent or unschooled, he is just unable to see itself as he appears to
others. The author wants to present to the audience the difference between a non jerk and a
complete jerk. One supporting point the author used in his story was a former college president
he once knew. If you never met a jerk, well this college president was the perfect definition of
one. Even though, he was smart schooled individual his behavior was offensive to others. A jerk
is practically an utterly miserable person, who doesn t enjoy life like other nor have humor as

The Problem Of The Classroom Authority
Attention colleague: I have surveyed some of my students about the quality of your class, per
your request. The overwhelming response I received related specifically to how you deliver
instructions in the class. Many students reflected that when ask questions such as Is that where
that book goes? , What did you forget to put on your paper? , and Would you like to sit down? you
lose your credibility as the classroom authority. I am writing concerning this issue because of my
desire to share with you information I have recently learned in relation to the differences in
characteristics of authority between white, working class communities and black, poverty stricken
communities. I will also explain the linguistic concept code switching, which is the ability to read
the context of an environment and actively choose the language style that fits the environment, as
mentioned in Wheeler (2008), and how this will lend a hand to you having more of an authoritative
presence in the classroom.
In the classroom, educators are the ones wielding the power and I believe you already understand
this, which plays out in how educators speak to their students. From all the information my
students have given me, I believe you are talking to them the same way your middle working class
parents spoke to you and I believe that you understand that when you ask students to perform a task,
you are implicitly telling them to complete the task. Delpit (1998) says that working class white

Violence And Hate Crime And Violence Through Intercultural...
Violence and hate crimes are frequent in the United States and have become a major issue for
many people. Violence comes in many different forms such as domestic, societal, and individual.
Violence is the main cause of distress and has the power to tear families apart. As a result, the
newer generation of kids are left to deal with insecurity, inequality, and injustice. In order to
ensure that people carry out the proper approach to violence, professionals and even every day
individuals must be trained through education or forums on how to manage these issues. The
purpose of this paper is to provide an intercultural approach to reduce the violence and the
suffering that many communities face. This paper provides an intervention to hate crime and
violence through intercultural praxis, education, and socially responsible actions. Social violence
or crimes involves people from different cultures and their diversity lead to emergence of
superiority and inferiority (In Sorrells In Sekimoto, 2015). Cultural groups that are seen as
inferior are looked down upon by superior cultures which then creates a rivalry. To end this
violence, education and awareness must be the key first and foremost, then intercultural praxis and
social responsibilities will help to an extent. The main focus will be on the historical ideas,
concepts and theories that explain the creation of social violence as well as hate crime. Many
factors contribute to social violence, while some of them come from

Relationship Between Music And Music
Introduction
The relationship between Music and Film has evolved immensely since the emergence of sound
films in 1923. In fact, music is one of the most peculiar conventions in cinema. It is not an aspect
of film that is questioned, due to its repeated imprint on viewers every time a movie is seen. Music
in film is not only something we accept, but something we demand. With time, the advancements in
technology has allowed for the creation of more intricate, film scores that have separated
themselves as iconic pieces of culture. Of these, the works of Hans Zimmer, in collaboration with
Christopher Nolan, have made a particularly transformative impact on the film industry. Their
partnership has seen the creation of numerous successes, including The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005,
2008, 2012), Inception (2010) and Interstellar (2014). Their unique methods of collaboration, and
stance on the relationship between film and music has played a significant role in shaping the
conventions of modern film. Thus, this essay will discuss three of their notable works in detail, and
provide an insight into their eccentric relationship.

In most films in the modern era, the composer and director work separately, with the composer
writing music by referencing early edits of scenes. This method is effective in terms of time
management, but often results in a lack of an authentic score. This is due to the time pressure on
composers to produce a fitting score in a relatively short amount of time compared to the time
allocated to editing and production. While usually the score and the film are completely different
entities for at least half of the production process, Nolan chooses to work closely with his
composers, meeting frequently to discuss the intricacies of the soundscape inside the world of the

Paul has traditionally been portrayed as having converted from Judaism to Christianity, and thus as

Concussions can truly mess with an athlete s brain and can give him or her lifelong troubles.
Many athletes of all ages and levels have had concussions that have affected their lives in
unbelievable ways. Kevin Turner, a former professional football player in the National Football
League, can certainly attest to this. Turner spent eight years playing professional football and
while playing, acquired the title Collision Expert . Many called him this because of the
countless deep notches he would receive in his football helmet during games. Since receiving
the title of Collision Expert , Turner has retired from the NFL and has had to deal with the
effects that have come along with those many notches in his helmet. Recently, Turner has been
diagnosed with a form of Lou Gehrig s disease. Scientists have studied Turner s case and from
research, they believe that his form of the disease is related to the many concussions and hard

Mayan Ruins Research Paper
The Mayan ruins have always been a fascinating ancient structure to me. My family is from
Guatemala so every vacation, we would visit and go see the temples. The history contained in
these pyramids are incredible and how they were built are still a mystery because with the
technology we have today, it would still be a difficult structure to build.
In the Mayan city of Tikal, the Great Plaza, which conquered the Guatemalan jungle, was one of
the most impressive temples. Like other major Mayan centers of the classical period, it was both a
densely populated city and a ceremonial religious center for surrounding villages. Tikal is the most
famous Mayan complex and city and is home to the highest pyramid, Temple IV of the Bicephalon
Serpent with more than 65 meters in height. According to an article written by David Hoffman 4

During the next 1500 years it was an important religious, scientific and political period of time. Its
peak was around 500 D.C. during the classic period. It was one of the most powerful Mayan cities,
built strategically in the center of the Mayan world which include Guatemala, Mexico, and
Honduras. It had a population of 50,000 to 100,000 inhabitants. Most consider Tikal the main
governing city of the Maya Civilization. For unknown reasons, Tikal began its descent in 870 D.C.
And was completely abandoned at the end of 900 BC. It also states that these ruins have about
3,000 structures. These include temples, palaces, altars, residences, and, terraces most of which are
connected by reservoirs to retain water. In the main ceremonial areas there are more than 200
monuments, called stelae. They were stamped with glyphs and pictures that tell stories about the

Dead Chivalry in the Wife of Bath’s Tale
In the time period between 1066 and 1485, better known as the medieval age, a set of standards
and how people are placed into order of importance in society is known as feudalism. In this
caste system there are four groups; Kings, Barons, Vassals, and Serfs. The main individual of
focus comes from the vassals, better known as the knight. Knights from this time period start
out around 7 years old and are taught a code of chivalry (code of conduct) and the basics of
knight hood. The knight in the Wife of Bath s tale forcibly violates a young madden and punished
with execution by decapitation. He is saved by the queen but is sent on a twelve month and a day

The knight shows his true chivric colors by saying My lady and my love, my dearest wife, I leave
the matter to your wise decision. (406 407) By allowing his wife to chose for him he displays true
chivalry. He is also allowing to choose what she wants for her husband; this is a recall to the answer
she gave him to save his life.
The knight in the Wife of Bath s tale doesn t display chivalry by his actions of violating an innocent
woman and continues to dishonor this code by being deeming and crass to an old woman who
helps save his life yet at the end allows the old woman to make a decision regarding his life.
Chivalry is a code of conduct on how to treat and respect women. Raping a young madden is
probably back in the medieval ages illegal and against the code of chivalry for a knight. Chivalry is
also a way of how to behave, when acting rudely towards the old woman he breaks that code,
even if it was not direct to her face. At the end we see the knight finally display chivalry by
allowing the old woman to decide his fate and because he was chivric he got what he truly

This happens when the conditions in the environment are good. When in they are in the diploid
stage, they mate, and the genes are combined for unique offsprings. The most adaptive offsprings
are most suited for survival. Therefore, the diploid state allows an adaptive advantage, but not the
haploid. 4. Compare and contrast the structure of a fungal mycelium with the structure of a
filamentous alga.
The biggest difference is that the fungal mycelium does not have the cytoplasm divided up into
individual cells. The cytoplasm is free to move around into all parts of the mycelium. You can
imagine how quickly the mycelium can distribute nutrients within itself. This allows the mycelium
to grow very quickly. Both are filamentous. 5. What is the advantage of maintaining a dikaryotic
condition rather than immediate nuclear fusion?
Some fungi have a dikaryotic (two nuclei in one cell) stage, more commonly known as a
heterokaryotic stage, because the fungus can wait for an opportune time to fuse the nuclei together
and grow. The fungus would not want to grow rapidly in the diploid stage unless it had adequate
food sources. This waiting will allow for maximum efficiency during its growth. 6. In fungi, the
only distinction between a spore and a gamete is function. Explain. In common parlance, the
difference between spore and gamete (both together called gonites) is that a spore will germinate

Observation In Early Childhood Education
Observation
In order to be a good educator, it is critical to observe children during their learning experiences.
Observations allow the educator to determine what the child knows, can do and understand (Early
Childhood Australia, 2012, p.1). Observations help the educator to implement experiences, which
are of interest to the children helping to build on their knowledge. According to Curtis Carter (2013,
p. 16) educators have many demands and distractions; therefore learning to pay attention requires
systematic study and ongoing practice. It was nice to conduct an experience with two children,
however, I feel that in an early childhood setting there would be many distractions that I would have
to overcome.
Observing Liliana and Ella ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When interacting with the children I was sure to stand back and observe them allowing them to
engage with one another. Only when the children asked for help or included me in the experience
did I contribute. By doing this I felt that I was able to offer both Liliana and Ella the time required
to engage in the experience and with one another. Liliana took photos of Ella and I and we all
reflected on what was happening (Curtis Carter, 2013, p.15). This continued throughout the
experience with us discussing what could be seen and what the children were doing allowing us to
all reflect on the experience and the chance for me to enhance their learning.
Interpretation
Interpreting what is happening throughout the experience is essential, allowing the educator to
reflect on the experience. According to the DEEWR (2009, p. 17) interpretation allows educators to
collect rich and meaningful information, which describes their progress and identifies the children
s strengths, skills, and understanding. By conducting observations during the experience, I was
able to interpret what was happening in the experience at a later time.
I used observations, which included jottings, photographs and recorded the experience. By using a
variety of different observations I was able to interpret what the

Compare And Contrast Antigone And Othello
Antigone was brave to stand up against the men in charge in her time and she died not because
she necessarily had a flaw but because she never gave upon her beliefs. Othello s flaw was
succumbing to jealousy which leads to his downfall. While both characters can be considered
tragic hero s we can see many similarities and differences as we observe them through Aristotle s
definition of a tragic hero. Aristotle breaks down tragic hero s by the hamartia, hubris, and the
peripeteia. These describe the downfall of a hero, their reversal in fortune, and the disrespect for the
natural order of things. After comparing Antigone and Othellothrough Aristotle s definition of a
tragic hero, I believe that Antigone is closer to a true tragic hero than Othello.
While Antigone did not have a thematic flaw like Othello did, her headstrong attitude and
unwillingness to let her Uncle Creon giver her brother Polyneices an improper burial would set the
chain of events leading to her downfall. The Hamartia is the tragic flaw that causes the hero s
downfall, and in this sense the greater tragedy is that Antigone could not escape death because her
character strongly believed the laws of the Heavens were greater than those of Creon s. No
matter how she chose to argue against Creon, her end result would have been grave, they
considered stoning her before locking her in a tomb and starving her. Antigone ultimately decided
to take her own life rather than have her convictions broken, something we can clearly see when
she boldly states If life must be a thing of fear and lying and compromise; if life cannot be free,
gallant, incorruptible then, Creon, I choose death! .
Othello was a beloved and respected general in the Venetian army, but through a paranoid fit of
jealousy he conspires with Iago to kill his wife and her thought to be lover Cassio. While it is
clear that the theme of Othello is jealousy, the green eyed monster , Othello never has solid proof
of the affair. Most of the evidence is circumstantial, but word of mouth through Iago coupled with
Othello s extreme jealousy pushes him to desire to murder his wife Desdemona and close friend
Cassio. Othello claims to have a profound love for Desdemona but it simply takes one

Soon after a young boy enters, walking to the dinner table asking the father to go for some tea with
his friend.
Within these three minutes I saw how the director and cinematographer used camera movement
to show the audience the family s dynamic through the eyes of Mui. The opening shot beginning
at 11:00 started off in a low angle, medium wide shot. Which then led the camera to follow the
mistress and Mui from the outdoor kitchen into the house. As Mui got to the dinner table the
camera ended up in a wide shot revealing the father and sons seated at the dinner table all taking
place in one continuous long shot, tilting and panning according to the movement of the actors.
As Mui walked off screen the there was a seamless edit, cutting to Khuyen entering the screen

immediate pan left as Mui was walking into the shot, the mistress was also walking into the shot
coming down the stairs. They were coming from two different directions but they both landed in

The Bible Is The Core Of True Wisdom Essay
As a rule of thumb, is worth to establish that the Bible is the core of true wisdom. Another source
is worldly wisdom found in our selfish ambition to succeed in life at all costs in order to achieve
our final goals; in this case to conquer happiness. To illustrate worldly wisdom, history speaks of
a man who was born on July 356 BC of a royal family. Who looked at closely his life and thought
of himself; if only he was the leader of his army he would be happy in life, and he fulfilled his
dream; but that was not enough. Then he thought of himself; my wisdom, knowledgeand
experiences are attributes of a prince, and he became a prince; but that was not enough. Later, he
thought of himself; with only the opportunity to be king this will definitely determine the meaning
in life and happiness, and he became the king; but that was not enough. Finally, he thought of
himself; with my wisdom, power, intelligence, skills, cleverness, and money he could conquer the
ends of the world, and he became a world ruler; but that was not enough, therefore after having
conquered the whole world there was no more and his heart was saddened. This is how Alexander
the Great became the most powerful king in the history. Surprisingly, at the age of 33 years old,
Alexander requested three important wishes; weeks before dying despite all the money, wealth,
power, intelligence, human knowledge, self righteousness, and authority. Although, for the world
the focus of his story is the center of wisdom

Chapter 8 Exercises: 21. What is sampling error? Could the value of the sampling error be zero?
If it were zero, what would this mean? * Sampling error is the difference between the statistic
estimated from a sample and the true population statistic. It is not impossible for the sampling
error to not be zero. If the sampling error is zero then the population is uniform. For example if I

The standard deviation of the sample was 6.2 weeks. Construct a 95 percent confidence interval for
the population mean. Is it reasonable that the population mean is 28 weeks? Justify your answer.
z = 1.96 (from a table)
N = 50 sd = 6.2 mean = 26
* 26 1.96*6.2/sqrt(50) to 26 + 1.96*6.2/sqrt(50)=24.281 to 27.719; The value of 28 weeks in not
inside that confidence interval, so it is not reasonable that the population mean is 28 weeks.
46. As a condition of employment, Fashion Industries applicants must pass a drug test. Of the last
220 applicants 14 failed the test. Develop a 99 percent confidence interval for the proportion of
applicants that fail the test. Would it be reasonable to conclude that more than 10 percent of the
applicants are now failing the test? In addition to the testing of applicants, Fashion Industries
randomly tests its employees throughout the year. Last year in the 400 random tests conducted, 14
employees failed the test. Would it be reasonable to conclude that less than 5 percent of the
employees are not able to pass the random drug test?
1st:
z = 2.5758 p = 14/220
p z*sqrt(p*(1 p)/N) to p + z*sqrt(p*(1 p)/N)
14/220 2.5758*sqrt(14/220*(1 14/220)/220) to 14/220 + 2.5758*sqrt(14/220*(1 14/220)/220)
* 0.0212 to 0.1060; 10% is within that interval, so yes, it is reasonable

Independency and Maturing
Treasure Island is a story about adventure. However it encompasses the theme of Independency
and maturing. Jim is a young boy who is in the middle of becoming a Independent and mature

around him. He is very courageous and has developed mature habits as the book progresses top the

The uselessness of Wealth
Treasure Island is the story of a voyage in which the pirates tend to get rich. Many of the pirates on
the boat were very poor. The treasure was a motive for them throughout the whole book. The
pirates and crew desired wealth and were extremely greedy. The theme of uselessness of wealth is
one that constantly reappears throughout the whole book. Stevenson portraits this when the pirates
constantly switch sides, betrayed each other, and do very violent and uncivil things just to get to the
treasure. Stevenson portraits the uselessness of desire when the pirates discover that the treasure
map leads them to a deserted hole. X did not mark the spot as finding nothing distresses the pirates.

Convicts In America Essay
The transportation system that brought convicts into America was born out of new types and
record levels of crime in England. (pg. 6) The crowded streets and overcrowding of the cities
added to the increase in crime. England s law enforcement and criminal justice system were ill
equipped to handle the dramatic increase in crimes committed in the city. The English penal
system was in such a state of instability that new solutions had to be found for the increasing
numbers of felons. The city jails were so unhealthy and disease ridden, that many inmates died.
The localities also lacked sufficient funds to care for the convicts in the already overcrowded
prisons. Instead of spending money for more jails in order to accommodate more prisoners,... Show

relates to physics in many ways. The basic movement of kicking a soccer ball requires force, the

If the ball has a small amount of mass, than you require less force. Many soccer players use these
equations to their advantage when they start to kick the ball. If they know how much force they
need to apply it gives them more insight than the other team and gives them a better opportunity to
score. Cowans 3
Newton s Last Law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
This means when you kick a soccer ball it s suppose to come back to you with the equal amount
of strength. This is actually true, but we aren t aware of this because our leg has a greater mass,
than soccer ball. When we apply force to the ball the same amount does come back, but because
of the unbalanced masses, we don t fill the push back, and this also means we have a greater
Inertia because of our leg s resistance. Although kick the ball is very important in soccer, the
soccer ball has a very important part in Physics and the game of soccer. When the player kicks the
ball they transfer their momentum into the soccer ball. Momentum is the velocity of an object
times it s mass. Once your momentum of the ball you can control it by using your feet. This can be
demonstrated when someone passes you the ball and your feet to stop or slow down the momentum
in the ball. You are controlling the momentum. THE MAGNUS EFFECT Everything above is all

Happiness Revisited Summary
Based on Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi Happiness Revisited People have many different points of
view about how to achieve happiness, it can be based on the type of life one is having, an
experience, a way of living, culture, and religion. Happiness can be defined in many ways but
happiness is not something we find or get just by magic. In HappinessRevisited by
Csikszentmihalyi, the author emphasizes that It is by being fully involved with every detail of
our lives, whether good or bad, that we find happiness, not by trying to look for it directly. And
just as he stays that happiness is when someone is involved in everything that happens in live
either good or bad, one example that I think Csikszentmihalyi will describe as an optimal experience

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the price of oil has been falling like free ball, the government must take into consideration that it is essential to keep the value of Canadian currency low in order to improve exports when trading with other countries. Poloz will keep his benchmark overnight rate at 1 per cent Dec. 3 according to all 22 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News through Nov. 28, stretching the pause that began with Mark Carney in 2010. That would make it the longest since February 1944 to September 1950, exceeding the October 1950 to January 1955 hiatus. Explanation: The bank s optimal objective is to keep the overnight interest rate between 1 to 3 per cents. According to equilibrium in the market for reserves graph, the overnight rate is determined by the interest rate paid by excess or insufficient reserves. In this case, the interest rate as low as one per cent implies that the interest rate paid by reserves is equal to the overnight interest rate. Even if the Bank of Canada accidently set up the overnight interest rate at 2 per cents, this rate would fall in order to lower the opportunity cost of holding reserves, excess reserves would be demanded by parties who are interested in taking advantage of. The period of unchanged rates does say something about the depth of the financial crisis and the anemic recovery, said Eric ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The scent of popcorn overflows out of the concession stand and into the stands. Students paint each others skin until it is caked like glue. Many people that grew up in America can recall these descriptions with ease. A certain smell or feeling can often take people back to a vivid memory in life. In his short story In Football Season, John Updike uses various literary elements to illustrate his themes of reminiscing and the perception of time to take the narrator back to a time he remembers so eloquently, football season at his local high school. He creates a themes based on the perception of time and reminiscing on good times. He misses the time he had in high school on those friday nights. People often reminisce on memories in their past and realize that those beloved moments are long gone. This is put on display when Updike ends his story with Girls walk by me carrying their invisible bouquets from fields still steeped in grace, and i look up in the manner of one who follows with his eye the passage of a hearse, and remembers what pierces him (125). The invisible bouquets are his recollection of their fragrance wrapped in front of their arms(125). He then provides the metaphor of watching those thoughts disappearing like the passage of a hearse. His memories are dead and pass by him in the back of a hearse. Everyone experiences these same moments of reminisce. However, time seems to move in slow motion as he recalls his teenage years, a span of moments that appear to be endless. Now, tuning the corner into adulthood, we found time to be instead a black immensity endlessly supplied, like the wind (Updike 124). This is how the Narrator describes time as a fifteen year ... • 10. Difference Between Pilgrims And Puritans As we have learned so far there were two groups of people that came to the new world in search of religious freedom. First were the pilgrims who arrived in small numbers upon the mayflower in 1620. The second group was the puritans. Who were the puritans? The puritans were similar to their cousins the pilgrims, but also had many differences between them as well. For instance only 102 pilgrims came to the new world, while thousands of puritans came to the new world. By 1776 almost seventy five percent of the population of America was of puritan society. The puritans were well educated and over one hundred of the puritans went to oxford for schooling while the pilgrims were highly uneducated. From his early teens Winthrop threw himself into scriptural study and prayers, and gradually he trained himself into a full fledged Puritan, convinced that God had elected him to salvation or, in Puritan terms, to sainthood. When, in 1629, the Massachusetts Bay Company obtained a royal charter to plant a colony in New England, Winthrop joined the company, pledging to sell his English estate and take his family to Massachusetts if the company government and charter were also transferred to America. For the remaining 19 years of his life, Winthrop lived in the New England wilderness, a father figure among the colonists. The lifestyles and actions of the people of Greece had an interdependence with the common belief of Hellenism. By understanding that many Greeks looked to their gods and goddesses in most aspects of their life, we can better understand how Greek culture worked as a whole. This can be seen specifically in AthensGreece. In Athens they looked to the Goddess Athenain particular because she was their patron Goddess. • 14. Teen Suicide Papers Adolescent Suicide The rate of suicide, the act or an instance of taking one s own life voluntarily and intentionally, increases each year. More adolescents die each year from suicide than from cancer, heart disease, AIDS, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza, and chronic lung disease, combined (Preventing Teen Suicide, 2016, p.2). These facts show suicide is a serious problem among teens. Last year, teen suicide became the second leading cause of death in the United States confirming the significant increase in teen suicides. Causes and Reasons Causes of suicide vary but as technology advances new causes are apparent. Social media plays a major role in causes of suicide. Technology allows cyber bullying to happen frequently and recur until something or someone stops it. Victims of bullying often think they have no way out of their situation or feel like there is no help. People with suicidal thoughts struggle either mentally, physically, or emotionally. Three million children are absent from school each month due to bullying. Twenty percent of those bullied kids have suicidal thoughts (Bullying and Suicide, 2016, p.1). Media s such as snapchat, instagram, twitter, or facebook all provide factual information about previous cases of suicide. Cyberbullying is a serious problem especially among adolescent girls. Girls are more likely than boys to attempt suicide due to cyberbullying, because girls are struggling to find themselves as a person (Bichell, 2013, p. 3). Any form of negativity or put down affects them, and who they are trying to become. Teens who experienced traumatic events in their childhood are more likely to commit suicide. According to The Mayo Clinic ( 2017), studies show that teens who are victims of divorce, rape, or abuse are at a higher risk of attempting suicide. However, teens with mental health issues are most likely to commit suicide. Depression is the leading cause in health issues among teens. Consequently, foreign exchange hedging has a crucial importance for the company because it provides protection against different types of risk that derive from its activity. Different coverage of costs with hedging was also introduced in the analysis. The three main policies are of not hedging, 100% hedging with forward contracts and 100% hedging with options. All the future computations are in comparison with the impact zero scenario of a rate of USD 1,22/EUR and a volume of 25 000 sales. We can t just wait until something threatens or hurts a person of minority. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and continues stating that there is a reason that they racially profile us in the way they do. Sometimes it is wrong, and sometimes it is right (Cobb). All the elements serve a distinct purpose; symbolism, for one, is imperative in a literary work because it aids the reader in the overall comprehension of the particular theme or multiple themes that a story is trying to convey. In Susan Glaspell s, Trifles, she meticulously incorporates significant symbols that help the reader recognize and construe the depth of the significance of the jarof fruit preserves, quilt, bird, and the bird cage. I am writing concerning this issue because of my desire to share with you information I have recently learned in relation to the differences in characteristics of authority between white, working class communities and black, poverty stricken communities. I will also explain the linguistic concept code switching, which is the ability to read the context of an environment and actively choose the language style that fits the environment, as mentioned in Wheeler (2008), and how this will lend a hand to you having more of an authoritative presence in the classroom. In the classroom, educators are the ones wielding the power and I believe you already understand this, which plays out in how educators speak to their students. From all the information my students have given me, I believe you are talking to them the same way your middle working class parents spoke to you and I believe that you understand that when you ask students to perform a task, you are implicitly telling them to complete the task. • 32. Violence And Hate Crime And Violence Through Intercultural... Violence and hate crimes are frequent in the United States and have become a major issue for many people. Violence comes in many different forms such as domestic, societal, and individual. Violence is the main cause of distress and has the power to tear families apart. As a result, the newer generation of kids are left to deal with insecurity, inequality, and injustice. In order to ensure that people carry out the proper approach to violence, professionals and even every day individuals must be trained through education or forums on how to manage these issues. The purpose of this paper is to provide an intercultural approach to reduce the violence and the suffering that many communities face. This paper provides an intervention to hate crime and violence through intercultural praxis, education, and socially responsible actions. Social violence or crimes involves people from different cultures and their diversity lead to emergence of superiority and inferiority (In Sorrells In Sekimoto, 2015). Cultural groups that are seen as inferior are looked down upon by superior cultures which then creates a rivalry. To end this violence, education and awareness must be the key first and foremost, then intercultural praxis and social responsibilities will help to an extent. In fact, music is one of the most peculiar conventions in cinema. It is not an aspect of film that is questioned, due to its repeated imprint on viewers every time a movie is seen. Music in film is not only something we accept, but something we demand. With time, the advancements in technology has allowed for the creation of more intricate, film scores that have separated themselves as iconic pieces of culture. Of these, the works of Hans Zimmer, in collaboration with Christopher Nolan, have made a particularly transformative impact on the film industry. Their partnership has seen the creation of numerous successes, including The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005, 2008, 2012), Inception (2010) and Interstellar (2014). Their unique methods of collaboration, and stance on the relationship between film and music has played a significant role in shaping the conventions of modern film. This method is effective in terms of time management, but often results in a lack of an authentic score. • 45. Compare And Contrast Antigone And Othello Antigone was brave to stand up against the men in charge in her time and she died not because she necessarily had a flaw but because she never gave upon her beliefs. Othello s flaw was succumbing to jealousy which leads to his downfall. While both characters can be considered tragic hero s we can see many similarities and differences as we observe them through Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero. Aristotle breaks down tragic hero s by the hamartia, hubris, and the peripeteia. These describe the downfall of a hero, their reversal in fortune, and the disrespect for the natural order of things. After comparing Antigone and Othellothrough Aristotle s definition of a tragic hero, I believe that Antigone is closer to a true tragic hero than Othello. While Antigone did not have a thematic flaw like Othello did, her headstrong attitude and unwillingness to let her Uncle Creon giver her brother Polyneices an improper burial would set the chain of events leading to her downfall. The Hamartia is the tragic flaw that causes the hero s downfall, and in this sense the greater tragedy is that Antigone could not escape death because her character strongly believed the laws of the Heavens were greater than those of Creon s. No matter how she chose to argue against Creon, her end result would have been grave, they considered stoning her before locking her in a tomb and starving her. Antigone ultimately decided to take her own life rather than have her convictions broken, something we can clearly see when she boldly states If life must be a thing of fear and lying and compromise; if life cannot be free, gallant, incorruptible then, Creon, I choose death! . Othello was a beloved and respected general in the Venetian army, but through a paranoid fit of jealousy he conspires with Iago to kill his wife and her thought to be lover Cassio. While it is clear that the theme of Othello is jealousy, the green eyed monster , Othello never has solid proof of the affair. Another source is worldly wisdom found in our selfish ambition to succeed in life at all costs in order to achieve our final goals; in this case to conquer happiness. To illustrate worldly wisdom, history speaks of a man who was born on July 356 BC of a royal family. Who looked at closely his life and thought of himself; if only he was the leader of his army he would be happy in life, and he fulfilled his dream; but that was not enough. Then he thought of himself; my wisdom, knowledgeand experiences are attributes of a prince, and he became a prince; but that was not enough. Later, he thought of himself; with only the opportunity to be king this will definitely determine the meaning in life and happiness, and he became the king; but that was not enough. Finally, he thought of himself; with my wisdom, power, intelligence, skills, cleverness, and money he could conquer the ends of the world, and he became a world ruler; but that was not enough, therefore after having conquered the whole world there was no more and his heart was saddened. This is how Alexander the Great became the most powerful king in the history. The standard deviation of the sample was 6.2 weeks. Construct a 95 percent confidence interval for the population mean. Is it reasonable that the population mean is 28 weeks? Justify your answer. z = 1.96 (from a table) N = 50 sd = 6.2 mean = 26 * 26 1.96*6.2/sqrt(50) to 26 + 1.96*6.2/sqrt(50)=24.281 to 27.719; The value of 28 weeks in not inside that confidence interval, so it is not reasonable that the population mean is 28 weeks. 46. As a condition of employment, Fashion Industries applicants must pass a drug test. Of the last 220 applicants 14 failed the test. Develop a 99 percent confidence interval for the proportion of applicants that fail the test. Would it be reasonable to conclude that more than 10 percent of the applicants are now failing the test? In addition to the testing of applicants, Fashion Industries randomly tests its employees throughout the year. Last year in the 400 random tests conducted, 14 employees failed the test. Would it be reasonable to conclude that less than 5 percent of the employees are not able to pass the random drug test? 1st: z = 2.5758 p = 14/220 p z*sqrt(p*(1 p)/N) to p + z*sqrt(p*(1 p)/N) 14/220 2.5758*sqrt(14/220*(1 14/220)/220) to 14/220 + 2.5758*sqrt(14/220*(1 14/220)/220) * 0.0212 to 0.1060; 10% is within that interval, so yes, it is reasonable 2nd: z = 2.5758 p = 14/400 p z*sqrt(p*(1 p)/N) to p + z*sqrt(p*(1 p)/N)

(pg. 6) The crowded streets and overcrowding of the cities added to the increase in crime. England s law enforcement and criminal justice system were ill equipped to handle the dramatic increase in crimes committed in the city. The English penal system was in such a state of instability that new solutions had to be found for the increasing numbers of felons. The city jails were so unhealthy and disease ridden, that many inmates died. The localities also lacked sufficient funds to care for the convicts in the already overcrowded prisons. Soccer consist of two teams trying to score a soccer ball into a goal on the opposing team s side of the field without using their arms or hands. This sport is straightforward and simple, but relates to physics in many ways. The basic movement of kicking a soccer ball requires force, the release of kinetic energy, acceleration etc. I will be discussing the importance of Physics in soccer and how it impacts the overall game. In the sport Soccer the players are kicking the soccer ball up and down the field. When the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the ball has a small amount of mass, than you require less force. Many soccer players use these equations to their advantage when they start to kick the ball. If they know how much force they need to apply it gives them more insight than the other team and gives them a better opportunity to score. Cowans 3 Newton s Last Law of motion states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This means when you kick a soccer ball it s suppose to come back to you with the equal amount of strength. This is actually true, but we aren t aware of this because our leg has a greater mass, than soccer ball. When we apply force to the ball the same amount does come back, but because of the unbalanced masses, we don t fill the push back, and this also means we have a greater Inertia because of our leg s resistance. Although kick the ball is very important in soccer, the soccer ball has a very important part in Physics and the game of soccer. When the player kicks the ball they transfer their momentum into the soccer ball. Momentum is the velocity of an object times it s mass. Once your momentum of the ball you can control it by using your feet. This can be demonstrated when someone passes you the ball and your feet to stop or slow down the momentum in the ball. You are controlling the momentum. THE MAGNUS EFFECT Everything above is all because of the Magnus Effect. The Magnus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
