Rostrevor College Project Deliverables:
OVERVIEW
SHAPE was engaged
by Rostrevor College to
undertake the first of a
four stage upgrade of a
number of teaching spaces
at the school. Following
the successful completion
of this component, SHAPE
was reengaged to complete
the remaining stages (5
to 13), to provide flexible
and inspiring teaching
and learning spaces for
their students and staff.
SHAPE completed the
refurbishment works to a
number of buildings across
the school including the
resource/library areas,
special needs, student
counselling and school
amenities. Accessibility
was also optimised with the
construction of new external
ramps, covered building
links and stairways.
DESIGN & DEFECT
FREE
SHAPE worked
collaboratively with
stakeholders to provide
buildability advice to ensure
the design intent was
maintained. This advice
assisted an extensive value
management process that
provided significant savings
for Rostrevor. Being a
live school environment,
defect management was
critical to the project’s
success. To ensure that
there was minimal impact
to the school, SHAPE
managed the process
with a constructive and
consultative approach,
to deliver a seamless
refurbishment.
LIVE ENVIRONMENT
Due to the nature of
working within a school
environment, SHAPE’s
methodology was
centred on minimising
impact, focussing on the
management of noise,
safety and quality. Highly
sensitive tasks were
undertaken over weekends,
such as asbestos removal.
SHAPE’s project team
were proactive in their
approach undertaking a
detailed asbestos survey
prior to commencing works
onsite. This procedure has
since been documented
and shared and is now
implemented on all
SHAPE’s future projects
with asbestos risk.
QUALITY OUTCOME
SHAPE was awarded this
fitout based on an existing
successful relationship with
Wiltshire & Swain, as well
as a strong understanding
of education project. Since
completing this project,
SHAPE was awarded
stages 5-13. Overall, the
project has been heralded
as a success by all involved
and the client reports that
their staff and students
could not be happier with
the end result.
