OVERVIEW
The University of Queensland
wanted to refurbish two
lecture rooms, an interactive
and collaborative teaching
space and an office space to
incorporate an individual office,
study halls and a reception
area spread over two levels.
The project required SHAPE to
install blackbutt feature ceilings
and walls, light winching
systems and customised
joinery. The key client value
for this project was to ensure
forward planning and timely
consultation while providing
value engineering solutions
and maintaining stakeholder
continuity.
COLLABORATION
Minimising disruption to
occupied and functional
lecture theatres required
communication with user
groups and planning works.
By communicating with the
client and building occupants,
the project was easier to
manage and all stakeholders
had a strong understanding
of project milestones. SHAPE
scheduled works for the project
to fit within lecture timetables.
SHAPE had weekly meetings
with the relevant stakeholders
to ensure inform stakeholders
when shutdowns would occur
and what activities would be
undertaken next. All noisy
works were conducted on
Fridays and Saturdays as per
the university’s instructions.
LIVE ENVIRONMENT
SHAPE demonstrated
our ability to work in a live
environment during this project.
The collaborative approach
with the end user allowed
SHAPE the opportunity for
an uninterrupted construction
programme, which resulted in
reaching project completion as
scheduled.
