OVERVIEW
John Flynn Private
Hospital is a 345 bed,
acute care hospital
located on the Gold
Coast. SHAPE was
engaged by Ramsay
to complete a
refurbishment within
two separate buildings
concurrently. One of
the projects included
the refurbishment
of an existing store
room within the
ground floor of the
hospital to create a
new operating theatre,
Catheter lab and
reception. The second
was to refurbish the
entire existing floor on
level 5 of Fred McKay
House to create a new
Rehabilitation ward.
LIVE ENVIRONMENT
As both buildings were
in close proximity to
operational spaces,
management of
noise, dust and
disruption to services
was paramount.
SHAPE had to
provide the hospital
with ample notice of
disruptive activities
and coordination
before works could
take place, to ensure
works did not impact
the hospital’s daily
operations. SHAPE
also employed
dust minimisation
techniques including
tacky matts and
extraction fans, and
employed a full time
labourer to ensure
dust was eliminated.
EARLY AND DIRECT
SHAPE managed
this process through
key meetings with the
stakeholders and early
onset engagement
with the client project
manager. The clear
documentation and
hold points on the
client programmes
meant that SHAPE
was able to set up
a clear path, with
transparency to all
stakeholders involved.
SHAPE also had
regular meetings
with the hospital
team in order to
plan daily works and
ensure there was no
disruption to the day-
to-day running and
no time delays were
experienced.
TIME CRITICAL
The project timeframe
was critical, as there
were key stakeholders
and suppliers that
required continual
involvement, lead time
management and
fixed installation dates
due to supply from
other states. SHAPE
achieved the 12 week
timeframe and the
overall result was a
space that is warm,
welcoming and highly
functional.
