The Roosevelt Corollary expanded the Monroe Doctrine by stating that the United States could intervene in Latin American countries to prevent European countries from doing so. It allowed the US to act as a police power in the region. While the Monroe Doctrine said European countries should not interfere in the Americas, the Roosevelt Corollary gave the US sole right to interfere if needed to keep European nations out. It was presented in response to a 1902 blockade of Venezuela by European countries due to unpaid debts.

2. Taylor Rule
Assume an economy with an AE curve with a slope of 1 where a one percent change in real interest rates changes real GDP by 1 percent with a one year lag. This economy is also characterized by an ouput gap Phillips curve where a one percentage point change in the output gap affects inflation with a one year lag. From Okunâs law for this economy a 1 percent change in real GDP changes the unemployment rate by .5%. The natural rate of unemployment for this economy is 5%. The neutral real rate of interest rn = 3.0 %/ and the target rate of inflation Î T = 2%.
Assumes that policy makers inherit an economy at its natural rate of unemployment (5%), 6 percent inflation in year 0, and decide to use an aggressive Taylor rule of:
r = 3% + 1.0 (Y-Y*/Y*) + 1.0 (Î â 2%)
Fill in the following table assuming that policy makers have a correct model of the economy, follow the aggressive Taylor rule, and the economy has the two one period lags. Remember that in each year the policy choice for the real interest rate changes. (Your policy choice in year 0 affects GDP in Y in year 1 and how that policy affects GDP in year 1 affects inflation in year 2.
Hint. Use the Taylor rule to pick r in period 0 based on information in table. That r chosen for year 0 will have an impact on Y (and u based on Okunâs law) in year 1, but will have no impact on inflation until year 2 depending on the output gap that opens up in year 1.

What was the Argument of Alfred T. Mahan?
Alfred T. Mahan argument was that the success of international politics lied in naval power.
What was James Monroeâs position in the Monroe Doctrine?
His position was that Americans needed to be free from future European colonization and that the European should not interfere in the sovereign countries' undertakings. According to him, United States should stay neutral in European wars and wars between European powers and their colonies. He also stated that it would be a hostile act towards United States for the Europeans to consider new colonies or interference with independent countries.
How did Woodrow Wilsonâs position change concerning US Involvement in WWI and what were his 14 Points?
In I914, Woodrow urged all Americans to stay neutral in the case of the European war. After reelection in 1916, Wilson tried to end the war through active mediation. However, the Germans resumed unrestricted submarine warfare. On April 2, 1917, the president told Congress to declare war. Therefore, the Germans made Wilson change position on the US involvement in WWI. The 14 points were:
1. Open agreements of peace and clear diplomacy.
2. Total freedom o.

What is the purpose of the Sabbath Law in the Torah. It is interesting to compare how the context of the law shifts from Exodus to Deuteronomy. Who gets to rest, and why?
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasnât one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. The Roosevelt Corollary was an addition to the
Monroe Doctrine. It stated that no European
countries were allowed to intervene in Latin
American affairs. The only way that the U.S
was allowed to become involved was if the
affairs or European countries was threatened.
The United States could exercise police power
in Latin America.
The United States was the only country
allowed to interfere with Latin American
countries.
3. In late 1902, Britain, Germany, and Italy
implemented a naval blockade of several
months against Venezuela because of
President Cipriano Castro's refusal to pay
foreign debts and damages suffered by
European citizens in a recent Venezuelan civil
war. The incident was called the Venezuela
Crisis of 1902â1903.
4. In 1934, Franklin D. Roosevelt further
renounced interventionism and established his
"Good Neighbor Policy", leaving unchallenged
the emergence of dictatorships like that
of Batista in Cuba or Trujillo in the Dominican
Republic. Three highly oppressive dictators-
Dominican Republic dictator Rafael Trujillo,
Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza, and
Haitian dictator François Duvalier- were each
considered to be "frankenstein dictators" due
to the mishandlings of the American
occupations in the countries.
5. The Roosevelt Corollary was supposed to be an
addition to the Monroe Doctrine, however, it
could be seen as a departure. While the
Monroe Doctrine said European countries
should stay out of Latin America, the Roosevelt
Corollary took this further to say that the
United States had the right to exercise military
force in Latin American countries in order to
keep European countries out
