Pale Fire By Vladimir Nabokov
Pale Fire has spawned a wide variety of interpretations and a large body of written criticism, which
Finnish literary scholar Pekka Tammi estimated in 1995 as more than 80 studies.(Wiki) Although
no correct interpretation exists, a strong case can be made for interpreting the novel in terms of
Kinbote s insanity. His mental decline, paired with his academic unfulfillment, sparked by harsh
criticism by his colleagues leads him to murder John Shade in order to obtain the author s most
recent poem and redeem himself through its thoughtful commentary and analysis. This
interpretation entails that the world of Zembla is entirely fictional and the comically careless
assassin Gradus is nothing more but an impersonation of Kinbote s delirious... Show more content

As the novel elaborates on Botkin s insanity, it begins to reveal more about his obsessive, and, at
times aggressive qualities. Botkin describes his disturbing tendency to spy after his beloved
poet: The view from one of my windows kept providing me with first rate entertainment [...]
From the second story of my house the Shade s living room window remained clearly visible so
long as the branches of the deciduous trees between us were still bare... (p. 23) He proceeds to
study the shade s household in a maniac like way by placing a phone call in order to analyze
Sybil Shade s habits.(p. 23) Botkin describes shade s disappearance from his line of view as a
terror , brought upon him by the coming of the night; displaying the level of obsession and
predator like behavior slowly building up inside him. Botkin s quick interaction with the
instructor on page 24, following the snide remark: I contented myself on my way out with
pulling Gerald Emerald s bow tie loose with a deft jerk of my fingers as I passed by him (p. 24)
demonstrates his violent tendencies, bottled up inside, giving the reader reason to believe that
Botkin s true violence is limitless.
Botkin has long seen John Shade as an object of admiration and potential redemption and
justification in the academic world. However, it is not until the introduction of

All the little children living in there are orphans rejected by the wicked world, yet zealously
loved by their father [80 110]. No, he is not their biological father one other criterion of the
formalist world, which permits the distorted and destroyed relationships between the native
parents and children. However, his own world s parameters identify him as their ultimate father.
This cozy Cider House world is a tiny spot on earth where children love and respect each other, if
only by virtue of the sense of alienation that the other world has cursed them with. Any encounter
with the outside world is happy only for one of them: the rest of the kids will not be adopted that
soon [84 89]. In fact, the big spotlight in the story is about the two poles or two alternatives
facing the protagonists: their Cider home sweet home and the bitter world. The same applies to
the central figure, Homer who is an extremely likable person and a fast learner, soon to become
as skilled as his teacher. Yet without a diploma another anchor of the outside world stressing the
form, the superficiality, the illusion over the intrinsic value. Thus far, he has lived in this
paradise which has a lot of bliss to offer. Yet, this warm Eden could not possibly offer him the
knowledge of good and evil, the knowledge he will have to receive in the outside world. Of
course, for now Homer has nothing to compare it with but soon an episode occurs that

Internet Security And The Internet
Internet Security The internet is a vast labyrinth of data for users to access. The internet is vast and
complex; therefore, it is essential that a user have a fundamental understanding to the power and
risks associated to using it. Much like the vast expanse of outer space, much of the internet is not
understood and can be scary to become lost in. Protecting the data that is available on the internet is
a daunting task with nearly zero possibility of complete protection. Sensitive data is often the target
of insidious hackers seeking notoriety or financial gain from stealing it. How can anyone expect to
protect this data from human or machine interfaces when the securityis created by a person or

Regrettably, the convenience of online shopping also brings great risk to those that utilize it;
however, there are a multitude of online shoppers that feel information security will self manage
given ample time (Miyazaki Fernandez, 2001). While this may seem naГЇve, it warrants merit as
many major banking institutions will forgive debt incurred due to fraudulent activities against
customers accounts.
Specific Risks to Data on the Internet Commonly used tactics are prevalent on the internet; in
fact, browser attacks have escalated exponentially towards internet users (Bugliesi, Calzavara,
Focardi Khan, 2015). In fact, browser attacks looking for cookies present such grave danger that
Bugliesi, Calzavara, Focardi Khan (2015) stated modern web browsers implement native
protection mechanisms based on the HttpOnly and Secure flags to shield session cookies from
unintended access by scripts injected into HTML code, as well as by sniffers tapping the client
server link of an HTTP connection (p. 509). Yet another serious risk factor to internet use is
browser attacks, which are insidious brute force attacks that savvy hackers will impose;
consequently, consumers will oftentimes enter a password to confirm an order and verify the intent
of an order (Jing Jang, Yi Chan Gen Yih, 2015). Would be hackers are staged to receive and
intercept passwords that are not adequately protected to steal them and act as the consumer without
his or her consent.

Fast Indian Ethnic Fashion Of The Young College Girls
INTRODUCTION MARKET
Ethnic wear was initially a category that was largely restricted to the older age segment. However,
it is now finding acceptance even among younger consumers, especially women. The young college
going girl teams her Indian kurta with either a pair of denims or leggings that represent a fusion of
ethnic wear with western wear. This has led to brands focusing on ethnic fusion wear product
offerings, in western styles and prints, in order to capture the opportunity. With an interesting
interplay of woven, knits and other fashion brands, these brands have completely redefined ethnic
wear for consumers. The women s ethnic segment currently accounts for an 87% of the total ethnic

The Pearl Meaning
Enchanting. Glossy. A radiant angelic white. These are the words that could be used to describe
at first a giant pearl called the Pearl of the World that a Native Mexican man named Kino found.
But as the story progresses, those adjectives changed dramatically as Kino first sees an innocent
pearl that will save his family from poverty into Being blinded by hopefulness prevents Kino from
seeing the unbearable truth until its consequences overwhelmed him. Kino is pushed through trial
after trial, holding onto the tiniest milligram of hope to search for an impossible result to happen
to him and his family. But Kino had become as deadly as steel. Deliberately he threw the lever of
the rifle, and then he raised the gun and aimed deliberately and fired (87). Kino was willing to kill

attempted theft of the pearl shows that even Kino s closest family member cares for him enough
to try to throw the pearl away to keep Kino from suffering its unknown consequences. It is the
pearl, said Juan Tomas. There is a devil in this pearl. You should have sold it and passed on the
devil. Perhaps you can still sell it and buy peace for yourself (65). Juan Tomas worries for his
brother and his family s safety so he advises Kino to sell it cheaply to have peace again. Kino s
own brother warned him about the pearl s dangers even though is Kino did become rich, he would
have given some of the money to Juan Tomas which meant that Juan Tomas was sincerely scared
for Kino about the pearl s consequences and not out of greediness for

Analysis Of Digital Nation
Technology can be used as a great tool for both education and communication. Specifically, the
younger generation is being targeted to use technology. They tend to use this technology for work,
school, communication, or entertainment. In the film Digital Nation, the producers stressed the
influence technology can have on the everyday life of a teenager. In order for one to gain an
understanding of the influence of technology, one could use Digital Nation has a reference to
identify how teenagers use technology in their everyday life and the distractions it may cause to a
teenager s focus. Today s teenagers think they are very good at multi tasking. The easy access to
technology by teenagers make them very inclined to use it. Students at the Massachusetts
Institution of Technology are the most connected people in the nation (Digital). These students
believe that they are the best at multi tasking. That means doing school work while playing a game
or checking their social media. This social group of students has learned to become literally two
places at once. They are constantly within a digital network whether that is through Facebook or
another social outlet. Even through all this technology, students are actually struggling with multi
tasking. Students were tested to see how well they could switch between tasks. The test showed that
a student tested better if focusing on one thing than one switching focus. Gathering this information

Romanticism In The Tree Of Life By Terrence Malick
When I first heard of the word Romanticism , I automatically assumed it was more of an intricate
way to say romance but romanticism is much more than pursuing someone. Romanticism is a
movement of art and literature that formulated around the late 18th century that is characterized
by strong emotions, individualism and the glorification of all past and nature. The Tree of Life
directed by Terrence Malick is a perfect example of romanticism and conforms well with Hugo s
manifesto on Romanticism. It is about the story of a family in Waco, Texas in 1950 s that loses
one of their sons. Growing up, the eldest son and struggles with his parents conflicting teachings.
Later in life he looks back on his childhood and through his memories, tries to find the meaning
of life. Terrence s film complies with Hugo s preface on romanticism by featuring moments from
the past, incorporation of nature and containing organized religion. In The Tree of Life the
journey begins when we learn that a son has died and it takes us on this course of the oldest
brother s Jack, reminiscence growing up in this family. As we see him mature in age, his innocence
is lost because of his father s questioning family ideals and rules. His father instructs these
household manners against his brothers and Jack when their father doesn t follow them himself. So
eventually we see the son s back talk to him and revolt against their father. Their mother is a
bystander whenever their father is around, but when he

Some mental health professionals believe that TMS may offer a treatment options with fewer
potential side effects, allow patients to remain in remission longer, and be more cost effective.
Electroconvulsive Therapy Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is procedure that involves deliberately
inducing a generalized seizure by passing small electrical currents directly through the brain. The
patient is placed under general anesthesia and given a muscle relaxant. Two electrodes are placed
on either side of the scalp and then the brain is stimulated with a series of brief electrical pulses in
order to induce the seizure, which last approximately one minute. The patient awakens five to ten
minutes after the ECT treatment (https://www.psychiatry.org/patients families/ect).
History of Electroconvulsive Therapy Scientists and professionals in the medical community have
long recognized that head trauma, convulsions, and high fevers could be good for improving
mental disturbances. In fact, Hippocrates noted that malaria induced convulsions were able to cure
insane patients. In the Middle Ages, some physicians observed the same phenomenon in

Why You Should Start Shopping For A New Vehicle
With all the new 2008 vehicles rolling onto the car dealership lots, it s hard not to start thinking
about trading in your wheels for a newer model. Before taking the plunge, consider these tips for
getting the best deal. Time is on Your Side There are certain times of the year that are better than
others for snagging a great deal on a new vehicle. It just depends on what your goals are. If your
goal is to trade up to a 2008 model, the best time to do this is in the spring of 2008. Most
dealerships will still have plenty of brand new, never been driven vehiclesout on the lot. If you re
simply looking to trade up, then you should start shopping for a 2007 model now. Any models
from last year that haven t sold will be deeply discounted to make room for next year s model.
Shopping during different months can also yield surprisingly deep discounts. For example,
November is historically the slowest month for vehicles sales, new or used. Since the majority of
Americans are focused on planning for the holidays, sales slow down significantly. Sales people
are more likely to come to their bottom dollar negotiating figure more quickly during November,
thereby making negotiations easier on you. Generally, shopping in the early winter months right
after the holidays is also a good time to snag deals. If that is not enough, the day of the month you
choose to shop can also pay off. The closer to the end of the month you can shop, the better your
deal will be. This is because the

Operation Searchlight And The Bangladesh Genocide
After the assault on the university, the military continued on to the countryside. Those who
disagreed with the western Pakistani ideas concerning language, religion, and direction of the
country would experience varying degrees of violence at the hands of the military junta. Upon
entry, the junta would pillage and plunder the village houses and force the people out of their
homes. Moreover, as a form of psychological terror, the military forced the people to line up in
front of one another, proceeding to shoot down line after line in front of the remaining crowd. This
technique was also used during the assault on the student dormitories. The mass murders had

At the beginning of the genocide following the start of Operation Searchlight and the attack on
Dhaka University there was mass confusion and hysteria among the people. All over, Eastern
Pakistan people were wandering aimlessly and in April around thirty million had started to flee in
order to escape the grasp of the military. Ten million refugees went into India and overwhelmed
the country s resources, which eventually became a catalyst for Indian military intervention. It is
worthy to note that a large number of these refugees were Hindu. Additionally, the influx of the
Bengali people in India was estimated to be 10 million refugees and it is estimated that 1.5
million stayed in India after Bangladesh gained its independence (GenocideBangladesh). This
increase in refugees resulted in a mix of cultures as well. Consequently, this was a negative impact
on East Pakistan, and subsequently Bangladesh, for the long term because their intellectuals had
fled, depriving them of ideas, new thoughts, and innovation, and proper leadership that could have
led them to a higher position in the world today due to the absence of these important people in
that time (GenocideBangladesh). Due to the systematic raping of women throughout the country, a
large number of females were forced to bear children that they did not want. This was mentally
scarring and physically draining to these women and their families. Not to forget that, in the
Middle East, it is socially taboo for a women to have sex out of wedlock, leading to her being
ignored and shunned in public and by her own kin. Also due to the unwanted pregnancies, those
affected would sometimes resort to extreme solutions such as suicide by rat poison and other
means, such as infanticide, as well as abortion (Ahmed). Susan Brownmiller, author of Against Our

Persuasive Essay On The Nuclear Bomb
With World War II escalating, the United States agreed to use the world s first nuclear bomb to
end the chaos. Tensions were rising as the western hemisphere finally unraveled the gruesome
techniques Hitler practiced on Jews. As Schweitzer concluded, Hitler and the Nazis replaced the
organismic theory of states with the racial theory of peoples (Schweitzer 61). To prevent more
abuse from happening with Hitler in charge, the United States decided to take action. After Pearl
Harbor, the Japanese, who are allies with Germany, were seen as the major threat to the United
States. Imprisonment were placed on the Japanese as a way to monitor and prevent Japanese
influenced attacks. These actions were brought upon by President Franklin D. Roosevelt shortly
after Peal Harbor. As an act to end the war and to get revenge on Pearl Harbor, the United States
attacked Japan on August 6th, 1945. Hiroshima was the first target because it had been
untouched during the United State s Air Force bombing raids and was a vulnerable military base
for the bomb to be tested. On a quiet Monday morning at 8:15 a.m., the nuclear bomb often
recalled as the little boy was dropped on western Japan. Young estimated that about 68,000 people
died and 72,000 were wounded making World War II one of the bloodiest war in history (Young

What makes the benefits of xylitol so popular is the belief the general population has about it being

and the behavior of the soldiers at the prison in Abu Ghraib. I think the first and most obvious
comparison would be the blatant misuse and abuse of power. In both instances the figures in
authority were aware of their ability to make demands that their subordinates had to comply with,
and they took full advantage of it.
We see this expressed in emotional abuse that the prisoners had to endure. In both cases we forced
to perform demeaning tasks for no apparent reason. There were a number instances where the
prisoners were forced to be nude and were taunted. In the Stanford Prison Experiment the inmates
were teased about their genitals while in Abu

Daniel Chapter 3 Hebrew Men Analysis
In this essay I will be writing about The Three Hebrew Men. This story comes from the book of
Daniel chapter 3. It is about three men whose names were: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
The bible makes us to understand that the king of the Babylon empire at that time was king
Nebuchadnezzar. The story starts off when Nebuchadnezzar built a statute of Gold. Then he
invited important people from all over the land to come and see the statute that he built. Daniel
chapter 3 verse 4 5 says: Then a herald cried aloud: To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations,
and languages, that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in
symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King
Nebuchadnezzar has set up. king Nebuchadnezzar had asked all the people who came to see the
statue to fall down and worship the statue. Meanwhile it is written in the bible that when the
Israelites where in the wilderness God gave them the 10 commandments. When king
Nebuchadnezzar asked them to worship the image he was going against one of the 10 ... Show more

He said to them in chapter 13: Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve
my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up? After he said that he gave them another
chance to bow to his image but Shadrach Meshach and Abednego refused again. They said to the
king: O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If that is the case, our
God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us
from your hand, O king. (Daniel 3:16 17). They replied to him with confidence. Hey refused to be
moved by his threat because they had hope in GOD. The believed that God would save them. This
shows us that no matter what threat we face we should always put our hope in the lord that we

Essay on Hanging 10 for Power Generation
Hanging 10 for Power Generation
There are many different ways to generate electricity. Wind, rivers, fire, and ocean are just a few
technologies that are in current use. In this paper it will narrow the focus to the different types of
ocean wave power generation.
Wave generated electricity is a fairly new concept. Heavy research started in the early sixties.
People have been trying to build effective wave machines for about two hundred years. Designing
wave machines can be difficult do to the nature of the ocean.
One of the primary set backs in designing wave technologies is the inconsistencies of the ocean.
The tides, wave height, wave set counts, and consistencies are major hindrances ... Show more

As the water level inside the chamber raises and lowers, the difference air pressure turns a low
resistance turbine, generating power. The turbine spins in one direction no matter if the air is
pulling or pushing. The collectors have been design in this manner to obtain the maximum output
of power out of the machines. Most of these wave collectors, also known as oscillating water
columns are still experimental. This device is regarded as the world most advanced wave to
electricity generators. An oscillating water column in Norway is being tested and can produce 500
kilowatts of electricity.
A Salter Duck , is another invention that has been developed to produce power from waves. This
machine is basically two large pontoons hinged together at their ends. The bobbing action of the
pontoons gives the mechanical advantage to drive the internal generator. This was the first
invention to receive wide spread use to make ocean generated power. The United States Coast
Guard has been using many of these to power generating tools for their navigation lights and audio
transmitters.
Another type of energy the ocean has to offer is her tides. Generators used to harness power from
ocean tides are the cheapest to build. This is for the shear fact that most of the tide power stations
are connected to land. Due to logistics it is a lot easier to build objects closer to land than in the
middle of the ocean. These power stations can

The Salem Witch Trials For The Puritan Community
Texas Tech University A Town Submerged in Hysteria Cornelius Asmerom History To 1877
Professor Corye Beene October 23, 2014 The Salem Witch Trials The Salem Witch Trials were a
devastating time period in 1692 for the Puritan community which resulted in 20 innocent people
executed. Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts 9 years before the Puritans landed in
Massachusetts Bay. Puritans wanted to purify the Church of England and ultimately strive to
build a utopian society. John Winthrope who was the first governor of the Massachusetts bay
colony described this society as a city upon a hill . This city upon a hill was not going to achieve
itself on its own once the Puritans got to Massachusetts Bay. The type of government enforced
within their community was a theocracy, meaning that God is the true leader of society, and he
expressed his action and will through men and women. This required the community to attend
church daily, and if you did not show up people would come and look for you. This outdated form
of government enforced and allowed the sexist practices of women because of the strong belief that
women were susceptible to the Devils charm. Women had no legal or property rights, marrying as a
teenager and having many kids was the their life. This community did not tolerate nonconformity,
everyone did the same thing and acted the same way. Anne Hutchinson was a victim of the strict
beliefs of the Puritans. Anne Hutchinson was arrested for heresy

Cesar Chavez Nonviolent Resistance Summary
Cesar Chavez argues about the importance of using nonviolent resistance to achieve change in
society. His use of historical allusions, pathos, and logos leave his audience with little doubt as to
the proper course of action. Further on in the article, Chavez adds power to his contentions with
implications. The boycott, Gandhi taught, is the most nearly perfect instrument of nonviolent
change. This implication to Gandhi, a notable and regarded advocate for serene resistance, adds
validity to Chavez contention by suggesting that Gandhi would have concurred with and bolstered
Chavez claims. Chavez increases on his believability by making a historical allusion soon after.

Effects Of Depression On The Elderly
After the loss of a loved one, people experience a period of grief that usually includes unpleasant
thoughts, emotional distress, and withdrawal from normal daily activities. These unstable emotions

A Summary on James Joyce’s Eveline
In James Joyce s Eveline , Eveline remains in Dublin to care for her father, to take care of the
house and the kids, and she realized she was already comfortable in her current home. Eveline has
lived in Dublin her whole life in Dublin and has seen her siblings either leave home or pass away
through time. Yet she remains in the house that she grew up in, experienced the changes in
environment, changes in time, and the change in the people around her. She has seen her mother
pass away, her father grow older and crueler. She has witnessed the field in which they used to

Eveline feared what would happen if she just got up and left her father. She was the one taking
care of him, regardless of his actions towards her. This fear can be backed up by state of Ireland
during that time, as it is written in On the Resources of Ireland Much of the public attention is at
this time drawn to the wants of the labouring poor of Ireland, and the great decay of her trade
and manufactures. (425). Thus in the end Eveline decided to stay in Dublin, her fear swallowed
her up. However this isn t a bad thing all together. It gave her the realization of what she truly
wanted in the end, and just because she gave into her fears, it does not mean she won t be happy
where she stays.

Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five -- A Great American Novel
For a novel to be considered a Great American Novel, it must contain a theme that is uniquely
American, a hero that is the essence of a great American, or relevance to the American people.
Others argue, however, that the Great American Novel may never exist. They say that America and
her image are constantly changing and therefore, there will never be a novel that can represent the
country in its entirety. In his novel, Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegutwrites about war and its
destructiveness. Vonnegut tells the story of Billy Pilgrim, an unlikely hero, mentally scarred by
World War Two. Kurt Vonnegut explains how war is so devastating it can ruin a person forever.

The night of February 13th to the morning of February 14th, 1945, Billy Pilgrim endured the
firebombing of Dresden, which has come to be known as one of the worst bombings in history.
More than 135,000 people were killed in the bombing and Pilgrim, along with a small group that
took refuge in a meat locker, was one the few survivors of the bombing. Upon emerging, Billy
Pilgrim and the soldiers discovered that everybody in the city was supposed to be dead,
regardless of what they were, and that anybody that moved represented a flaw in the design
(Vonnegut 180). The city of Dresden was compared to the moon..., nothing but minerals (Vonnegut

transportation being a coffin shaped wagon (Vonnegut 278). The firebombing might have been
the event that created the most damage for Billy Pilgrim and began his downward spiral into
escape from reality. Pilgrim also created an alternate world called Tralfamadore where death, free

The Agile Software Development Process Essay
Motivation Over the last several years, agile software development processes have become
increasingly popular. According to Fowler (2003), the agile software engineering processes attempt
to enable more flexible and adaptive software development than the traditional software engineering
processes offer. Agile practitioners consider documentation as an important aspect for their projects
but there is too little internal documentation available in their projects (Stettina and Heijstek, 2011).
Although the documentation is mentioned, it is not anchored in the original process that relies on
verbal communication (Schwaber and Beedle, 2001). Verbal communication is susceptible to
lapses of memory and after some time it gets progressively harder to recall design rationale. This
problem is compounded by team turnaround (Stettina and Heijstek, 2011). The main objective of
documenting a project is to instruct consumers about the structure of the system, its functionality,
operability and the design structure in case there is need to redesign the system. The primary
consumers of the design documentation are those who maintain or upgrade the system. Other
stakeholders, such as users, testers, and project managers may also need to know about the
system (Selic, B., 2009). However, according to Bran Selic, (2009) software developers do not
like to document, as it has no value for them. Even the agile manifesto, issued by the software
industry s avant garde, proclaims Working software

Colonialism and Post Colonial Ethnic Conflict in East...
From the end of the nineteenth century until the attainment of independence in the early 1960s, the
countries of East Africa were under the colonial administration of European empires. After decades
of foreign rule which saw unparalleled transformations within society, the post colonial states that
emerged have been blighted by ethnic conflict. It has been argued that the beliefs of British,
Belgian and German administrators led them to completely reorganise the societies they governed
based on a fictitious tribal model, and in the process they invented ethnicity. There is a great deal
of debate on this matter, though, and its continued relevance to contemporary politics only makes it
more vigorous. Before we go on to analyse to what... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Curtis Keim has pointed out, though, for Africans it is most often used in a very similar way to
that in which Europeans use ethnic group . Therefore, when we use ethnicity this will be, for some
people, synonymous with tribe ; however, it is best to avoid the latter and any accompanying
connotations of primitivism and backwardness, so that it is clear along what lines we are talking.
Carola Lentz may well have described ethnicity as the joker card , a word that can be introduced at
any stage in the game, replacing potentially more problematic phrases and assuming the
characteristics we require of it, but its introduction is made with the best intentions; in order that
we may see ethnicity as a broad and evolving concept that can indeed mean many things
simultaneously. Sir Donald Cameron began his post as the British governor of Tanganyika in early
1925. Charged with organising the colony s administration, he made the following statement in July
that year: It is our duty to do everything in our power to develop the native on lines which will not
westernise him... We must not destroy... the African atmosphere, the African mind, the whole
foundation of his race, and we shall certainly do this if we sweep away all his tribal organisations.
Cameron s views undoubtedly reflected those of much of the British colonial administration in East
Africa,

Three Waves of Variation Study
1 Three Waves of Variation Study: The emergence of meaning in the study of variation Penelope
Eckert Stanford University Abstract The treatment of social meaning in variation has come in three
waves of analytic practice. The first wave of variation studies established broad correlations
between linguistic variables and the macro sociological categories of socioeconomic class, sex
class, ethnicity and age. The second wave employed ethnographic methods to explore the local
categories and configurations that inhabit, or constitute, these broader categories. In both waves,
variation was seen as marking social categories. This paper sets out a theoretical foundation for the
third wave, arguing that (1) variation constitutes a robust... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are some very big questions, such as how the system of social meaning is structured, what
kinds of social meanings are expressed in variation, how local meanings such as those found on
Martha s Vineyard articulate with broad demographic patterns, and how the relation between
variants and social meanings becomes conventionalized. In what follows, I will outline an
approach to the study of variation that centers on social meaning. This is not a proposal to
replace, but to refine and supplement, current approaches to variation. I will begin by tracing
the progress of the social study of variation over the past forty five years, in order to illuminate
the main issues. The treatment of social meaning in variation has come in three waves of analytic
practice. No wave supersedes the previous, but each represents a quite distinct way of thinking
about variation, and a distinct methodological and analytic practice, each of which grew out of
the findings of the previous wave. The first wave of variation studies, launched by William Labov
s New York City study (Labov,1966), laid a solid foundation for the study of variation by
establishing broad correlations between linguistic variables and the macro sociological categories
of socioeconomic class, sex class, ethnicity and age. These patterns pointed to questions

The Harlem Renaissance Poets Essay

The Harlem Renaissance was a wonderful allotment of advancement for the black poets and
writers of the 1920s and early 30s. I see the Harlem Renaissance as a time where people gather
together and express their work throughout the world for everyone to see the brilliance and talent
the black descendants harness.
The two authors I picked were W.E.B Du Bois and Langston Hughes. The reason why I picked
these two is because of the dedicated work they have flourished during the Harlem Renaissance.

One poem I chose from Langston Hughes that grabbed my immediate attention is his poem The
Weary Blues . This poem written by Hughes is very powerful to me and expresses a deep message
within for all Americans during that time; double consciousness is notable all throughout the entire
poem. Langston Hughes, who was one of the main focal points of figures of the Harlem
Renaissance, tries to remain conscientious to his African American roots in his foundation. His
poem The Weary Blues is the perfect example of double consciousness. The author of the article
places an immersed question: Was Langston Hughes able to overcome the double consciousness
and take the pot luck with African origins and roots, or did he also not know how to manage to
escape from the assimilation in the melting pot of the American culture? Reading the poem from
him, he actually provides the answer, which he states that the poet succeeds in promoting the folk
(Black) tradition, having to compromise with the compulsory framing into American (White)
reality of the form and the content of the subject.
The idiopathic themes expressed in both, Langston Hughes and W.E.B Du Bois during their time
period were expounded in great detail. One line from W.E.B Du Bois poem The Song of the

Differences Between The Medieval Catholic Church And Pietism
The Medieval Catholic Church and Pietism are both rooted in the common ideology that God
desires relationship and salvation for all. However, the two differ greatly in missiology, theology
and daily practicality. There are major points of divergence between the Medieval Catholic Church
and Pietism from which modern day Protestantismdeveloped. Mission theology links systematic
theology with practical theology. It outlines and interprets mission systematically and practically
from the perspective of God s mission, Christ s mission, the mission of the Holy Spirit and the
mission of the Church. The true test of The Medieval Catholic Churchand Pietism regardless of the
merging of missiology or the divergence of missiology is determined by how well each one meets
the challenge of the triune God s mandated definition of mission. Ultimately, one must adhere to the
Great Commission found in Matthew Chapter 28, verses 16 20. in order to accomplish a God
centered missiology.
Tradition
Pietism viewed Scripture as the governing authority of one s life. However, the Medieval Catholic
Church embraced Scripture and traditions as authoritative. In fact, Catholicism placed equal
emphasis on Scripture and tradition. According to Catholic Catechism, this living transmission,
accomplished in the Holy Spirit, is called Tradition, since it is distinct from Sacred Scripture by
showing how its riches are poured out in the practice and life of the Church, in her belief and her
prayer. It

Donatello s real name is Donato di Niccolo di Betto Bardi (1386 1466). Donatello was a master

time. A lot is known about his life and career but little is known about his character and
personality. He never married and seems to be a man of simple tastes. Patrons often found him
hard to deal with and he demanded a lot of artistic freedom. The inscriptions and signatures on his

He no longer modelled his shapes but he seemed to paint them with his chisel.
Donatello continued to explore the possibilities of the new technique he would use in his marble
reliefs of the 1420 s and early 1430 s. The best of these were The Ascension, with Christ giving
the keys to St. Peter, the Feast of Herod (1433 1435), the large stucco roundels with scenes from
the life of St. John the Evangelist (1434 1437), and the dome of the old sacristy of St. Lorenzo
shows the same technique but with color added.
Donatello had also become a major sculptor in bronze. His earliest work of this was the more than
life size statue of St. Louis (1423) which was replaced half a century later. Donatello in partnership
with Michelozzo helped with fine bronze effigy on the tomb of the pope John XXIII in the
bapistery, the Assumption of the Virgin on the Brancacci tomb and the dancing angels on the
outdoor pulpit of the Prato Cathedral (1433 1438).
His departure from the standards of Brunelleschi did not go to well between the two old friends
and was never repaired. Brunelleschi even made epigrams against Donatello.
During his partnership with Michelozzo, Donatello made works of pure sculpture, including
several works of bronze. The earliest and most important of these was the Feast of Herod (1423
1427). He also made two statuettes of Virtues and then three nude child angels (one which was

The concept of requirements for the English major at Yale University is based upon a desire to
inform, and, as explained by the description of English 125 and 126 on the department website,
are meant to provide: generous introduction to the abiding formal and thematic concerns of the
English literary tradition. A resounding emphasis is put on the benefit the student will receive
from the skills that the classes require. However, students would be able to come away with a
sharpened awareness of what it means to read with the attentiveness that great literature demands
regardless of the content of the syllabus, as long as there was a focus on close reading and form
that was adhered to by the professor. The question that remains is: what is... Show more content on

With a syllabus centered around woman poets, students would be exposed to more
socioeconomically diverse group of poets. While the major poets of the English 125 syllabus
were all born into some degree of wealth, the women who acted as supplementary readings for the
course were of more varied backgrounds. Isabella Whitney, for example, was born to a lower class
English family. Her experiences in life are reflected in her poetry, and starkly contrast the poetry of
the major men. While the traditional male poets may not have had the same views, they were
privy to a lot of similar experiences due to their class standing, and therefore tackled some of the
same issues. To have a different viewpoint and style of writing in terms of not only gender, but of
class, is crucial in the development of an English major. The current syllabus requires students to
be complacent with the multitude under developed female characters that are created through the
eyes of men, and satisfied with the few women who are given deeper personalities, like the Wife
of Bath in Chaucer s Canterbury Tales. Such confining works lead to conversation that
automatically focuses on the negative when it comes to gender that women are disregarded and
often powerless when depicted from the male point of view, unless they are overtly sexualized.
From a modern stance, this is seen as a sexist and unfair representation, but based on the current
material offered in English 125, it seems as though it is an injustice that must be dealt with to
understand the nuances of pivotal English poetry. However, a deeper focus on women poets would
eliminate, or at least add dimension to, this type of conversation. There is no reason why students
cannot recognize the powerful interactions of form and content between Isabella Whitney s To her
Inconstant Lover and Shakespeare s

Tourism In Azerbaijan Essay
Abstract Today, the Republic of Azerbaijan occupies a critical juncture between central Asia,
Europe, and the Middle East. Despite some significant challenges, Azerbaijan currently enjoys a
healthy petroleum based economy that is being increasingly diversified by the public and private
sectors to promote travel and tourism in this ancient land that enjoys a modern infrastructure and a
wide range of cultural heritage tourism destinations. Although many of the country s most widely
acclaimed destinations for international visitors are located in its capital, Baku, there are numerous
archeological and historical sites located in neighboring towns and regions as well that can form the
basis of a comprehensive cultural heritage tourism operation, providing certain factors are taken
into account in formulating the destination offerings. The Azerbaijan tourism industry has failed to
provide positive returns on its investment because the income that has been generated by tourism
industry has grown at a slow pace and gross domestic product attributable to the tourism industry
has actually fallen in recent years. Consequently studies such as this can help identify best practices
to speed industry growth and improve the return on the investment of scarce resources in the
Azerbaijani tourism industry. Acknowledgments [insert] Table of Contents Page Abstract

David Berkowits Thesis
David Berkowits was known as the .44 caliber killer. His name however was not David Berkowitz,
for he had changed his name. His real name was Richard David Falco. This man was known
throughout the whole world by his crimes and he instilled fear in all. The main locations for his
killings were in New York. As most serial killers do, he left a note for the police after every murder
egging them on to find him and stop him if they could. Richard claimed to have been a part of a
satanic cult and said that a dog was bringing him message that commanded him to do the atrocities
that he performed. The dog was named Harvey and wasn t even his, it was his neighbors. Even
though he claimed that he was commanded to do the crimes the courts found him mentally... Show

When he was born his name was Richard David Falco, but was soon adopted a few days after
birth by a couple that could not give birth. Their names were Nathan and pearl Berkowitz. They
decided to change his name after birth. Some reports have said that David was quite intelligent
as a child but at the same time he was perturbed. Psychologist had said that he was close to his
adoptive mother as a child and when she passed he was deeply troubled after. By the age of 18
he joined the military and was honorably discharged. After leaving the military he searched for
his birth mother and what he found out was the reason most psychologists believe he went
insane. His first murder was a teenage female, and he also shot another teenage female but didn t
kill her. He ended up leaving her paraplegic. This all occurred on July 29 1976 outside a Bronx
apartment building. Three months later he shot a couple sitting in a car severely damaging the
man s skull. Later on in November he shot two more teenage girls. In January 1977 he once again
targeted another couple in a car. At this point the police could not put the murders together until
they discovered the all the victims had been killed by a .44 magnum. A few months later in March
he killed a college student female. Another month later he killed an un expecting couple. At this
point he started to leave messages for the police force captain. His last attack was on July 31, 1977

Parker s Back And A Rose For Emily Analysis
Narrative Point of View in Parker s Back and A Rose For Emily An author s use of narrative point
of view has a significant impact on the presentation and interpretation of a text. The choice of a first
person narrative, for instance, will create a viewpoint that is substantially different in comparison to
a third person narrative. In Parker s Back, Flannery O Connor uses a third person limited point of
view. Faulkner s A Rose For Emily employs a first person point of view. In Parker s Back, the
third person limited narrative allows the author to take an objective, analytical view of Parker that
allows the reader to understand the protagonist s psychology; in A Rose For Emily, the reader s
knowledge of Miss Emily is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the same way that the eyes of the tattoo make Parker feel transparent, the third person limited
narration also makes Parker transparent to the reader by allowing the reader to access Parker s
thoughts and feelings. Parker likes to maintain control over what is seen and known about him;
this is clear in the fact that all of his previous tattoos have been on the front of his body: He had
no desire for one anywhere he could not readily see it himself (Kennedy and Gioia 430). On a
more abstract level, Parker keeps his real name a secret and goes only by his initials; his first
real act of intimacy with Sarah Ruth is to share his name: Obadiah Elihue. The third person
limited point of view, therefore, allows the reader to do what both the eyes of Christ in the
tattoo and Parker s wife do: to see Parker as he really is, not as he pretends to be. In contrast to the
third person limited point of view in Parker s Back, the point of view in A Rose For Emily is the
first person. The narrator s exact identity; the first line refers to our whole town, implying that s
/he is a towns person and neighbor. In fact, the narrator is never specified as one, single person;
the pronouns our and we seem to indicate that the narrator consists of several people, or even the
town as a collective whole. Rather than being told by a narrator who is outside of the story, and
therefore objective, the first person nature of this narrator

Raising Capital Chapter Summary
In this chapter, Wheelan discusses the basics of what we, as citizens should do with our money in
order to produce more in the long run. He mentions quite a few steps explaining what you should
do in each, but since this assignment is about being descriptive and brief, I ll only talk about the
ones that really caught my eye; raising capital, speculation, and save, invest, repeat. Raising capital
talks about how in today s society credit allows us to spend money that we don t have (pg. 150).
When raising capital we re collecting and raising the revenue. Collecting from investors through
loans, bonds and debit. When talking about speculation in this chapter, the author uses buying a
townhouse that is in the same shape as the others around... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that if you play your cards right then you can win. To me, when I hear the word scheme
I think of a cheater, which is essentially what it is, you re lying and doing whatever it takes to
take the easy way out. The get rich quick scheme is already violating the steps in its title by the
word quick. One of the steps is Storing, protecting, and making profitable use of excess capital
which also goes hand in hand with Save. Invest. Repeat. Saving takes time, effort and control. If
you ask me those trying to get rich quickly have no control over what they re doing as long as it
puts money into their pockets quickly which brings me to another step it violates; Insuring against
risk. Wheelan explains that we pay more than we expect to get back so that we re insured that we
are protected. Schemers will pay as little as possible to get what they want then sell it for more in
the long run in order to make a bigger profit. Although it may work, the greatest apprehension is
risking having nothing if it doesn t work out, much like investments. I favor the author s opinion of
investment because although investment is a risk, the longer you hold them for, the longer they ll
turn into something great (in today s economy at

The Social Groups of the Southern Colonies
The Southern Colonies, complete with beautiful plantation houses, educated children, and
indigo and tobacco fields for as far as the eye can see. It sounds like a truly great and inviting place
to settle in the New World and for some, it was. However, it was not as glamorous for some as it
was for others. It all depended on a person s social class. There were three main social classes in
the Southern Colonies. The highest class were those who owned plantations, the second was white
people who worked the lands; however, were too poor to own their own slaves. Lastly, the lowest
class was the slaves.

Ship Breaker Identity Analysis
Identity is one s morals, personality, and behavior. Society makes one act a certain way to make
them try to fit in. Society plays a major role in shaping identity in different ways such as
unemployment, racism, and poverty. In addition identity is influenced by the environment you
live in or the people you hang around. Unemployment is the society issue that shapes the
character Nailer in the novel Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi. For example, In Bright Sands
Beach the only profession available for the character Nailer is in the ducts on the Ship Breaking

For example, in the article it say s Studied shown that whites with criminal records are more
likely to be hired than blacks with identical backgrounds and no criminal past . Living in the
society that we live in racism is a major issue to blacks and whites. Both blacks whites feel a
certain way about racism because they shouldn t be judge by what they wear or the color of

because there s a story behind everyone life whether it s bad or good. Another example, While
nearly one in four white kids is born into the top fifth, the number of black children in that group

all types of cultures. There is racism between whites, blacks and other religions but nobody

own issues and nobody is perfect. Along with that they get judged on whether they have mental

Essay on Love in Shakespeare s Sonnet 138
The Philosophy of Love in Sonnet 138
Shakespeare was a superb philosopher, but in his sonnets, he was a philosopher of love.
Shakespeare sets forth the experiences of love and its torments fully within his sonnets. The
philosophy of love is that, love reconciles all. Love is the evil and the good, the lies and the truth.
Love is all there is. It passion as well as deception and lies.
Sonnet 138 , is a notable example of Shakespeare s philosophy of love. Written as a dramatic
monologue, this sonnet (also known as song ) is a lyric. Like all sonnets, there are fourteen lines,
with every four lines written as quatrains in a b a b format. The last two lines are known as a
couplet. This sonnet has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the above six lines, the narrator is explaining the situation of the lies, as they are being shared
between the two of them.
At line 7, the narrator takes on a change of heart as he simply or foolishly places the responsibility
of the lies on his companion. Simply I credit her false speaking tongue (l. 7). The style of mirrored
lines and thoughts, as show through the fist six lines changes at this moment. Yet, in line 8, He say
s that On both sides the ugly truth is suppressed. It appears that he is saying that although he gives
her credit for maybe starting the lies in the first place, they are both currently in the position of the
deceiver.
Once again, in lines 10 11 we see another shift in thought as the narrator questions the reality of
their love and the imposing lies. But wherefore says she not she is unjust? And wherefore say
not I that I am old? He is asking himself why she doesn t tell him that she is unfaithful, and why
does he not admit that he is old. In the lines following, he answers this question. Because loves
best disguise is the pretence of truth, and older lovers do not like to have their age pointed out (l.
11 12).
In Line 13, Therefore I lie with her and she with me, notice the double meaning of lie . The line
can also be interpreted as That is why I sleep with her and she with me. In the end, the narrator
concludes that the lies they tell each other help them forget

Comparing The Infamy And Controversy Of The Sex Pistols
The Infamy and Controversy of The Sex Pistols Although the infamous band, The Sex Pistols,
only lasted 26 months and one album, they had no shortage of controversy. The Sex Pistols
were, and still are today, the definition of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. It did not take long for
The Sex Pistols to stir controversy in the media. From the beginning of their existence, the media
portrayed them as no good punk anarchists. As documented in the film, The Filth and The Fury by
Julien Temple, it is clear why 1970 s conservative Britain would have an issue with the band. For
the first time, a group ignored the typical professionalism that was expected from the music
industry (Simonelli 122) and spoke for the working class. As mentioned in the... Show more content

Punks used shock value for attention. For example, although the band has never made racist
comments or lyrics, bassist Sid Vicious was often spotted wearing swastikas. (Gildart 134 135).
Their fashion choices gave everyone another reason to talk about them. The media was putting
money in their pockets and helping them get their message across. The band members also got a
kick out of the anti punk headlines, no doubt. In some ways, the media was correct. The band
encouraged violence at their shows, Sid Vicious was even known to cut himself on stage
(Simonelli 134). However, the extent that people would go to prevent The Sex Pistols from
corrupting the youth of Britain was a bit ridiculous. Parents protested outside venues, saying they
would do whatever it takes to keep The Sex Pistols from playing, including using violence if
necessary (Gildart 136 137). Due to the protests and uproar that was caused, the band only ended
up playing 5 out of the scheduled 27 shows on their Anarchy tour. (Gildart 130). What the public
did not understand is that the people who chose to go to these shows knew what they were getting
into, especially with the amount of media

Subaru Cars Good Or Bad
Whether it is Impreza, Legacy or Forester, every Subaru car is a performance car. Equipped with its
traditional boxer engine and featuring all wheel drive, every Subaru car is a joy to ride.
Subaru is a Japanese automobile manufacturer and a division of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. While
Subaru is not as large as other Japanese automobile manufacturers, like Toyota, Mitsubishi, Isuzu
and Nissan, it still produces some of the best cars, including rally inspired Impreza models, which
are fun to drive. The power of Subaru cars is remarkable, and their fuel economy is exceptional.
Subaru cars are environment friendly too as they emit significantly lower emissions. In fact, Subaru
also offers PZEV (Partially Zero Emission Vehicle) certified Impreza, Legacy and Forester models
that have zero evaporative emissions! Overall, Subaru cars are impressive cars, and owning one or

Quality Of Life Or Longevity
There are lots of arguments about what is important for living Quality of life or longevity?
Quality of life is more important to me than the long duration of life or longevity. Because living
long in poor conditions is worthless, it does not means living it just surviving. Before I explain
my position in this topic I would like to give a general idea about what is Quality of life and what
is Longevity . Quality of life is subjective and also multidimensional. It indicates the general well

So that both longevity and quality of life are best but in our daily lives we have to boost one
over another. Longevity with reduced quality of life is meaningless to me. I would prefer
quality of life rather than longevity. For example, suppose I am going to a long drive on a
highway, at the same time I crushed my car with another car. Few hours later I found myself in an
intensive care unit after the horrible accident. After one month I found myself in a wheelchair, and
can t communicate, can t do anything, having serious pain in my body, needs help for moving
anywhere. Does this type of lives meaningful to me? Is this my quality of life? My answer is
absolutely no . It indicates my quantity of life not quality of life.
A recent study which was conducted on Quality of life issues for older peoples. The results
shows that the average total life span increased for both women and men with a disability. The
study also says that increased longevity does not indicate that they are living with good health
always. Most aged peoples are living longer with various health problems or disability. (Eileen

  • 2. Pale Fire By Vladimir Nabokov Pale Fire has spawned a wide variety of interpretations and a large body of written criticism, which Finnish literary scholar Pekka Tammi estimated in 1995 as more than 80 studies.(Wiki) Although no correct interpretation exists, a strong case can be made for interpreting the novel in terms of Kinbote s insanity. His mental decline, paired with his academic unfulfillment, sparked by harsh criticism by his colleagues leads him to murder John Shade in order to obtain the author s most recent poem and redeem himself through its thoughtful commentary and analysis. This interpretation entails that the world of Zembla is entirely fictional and the comically careless assassin Gradus is nothing more but an impersonation of Kinbote s delirious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the novel elaborates on Botkin s insanity, it begins to reveal more about his obsessive, and, at times aggressive qualities. Botkin describes his disturbing tendency to spy after his beloved poet: The view from one of my windows kept providing me with first rate entertainment [...] From the second story of my house the Shade s living room window remained clearly visible so long as the branches of the deciduous trees between us were still bare... (p. 23) He proceeds to study the shade s household in a maniac like way by placing a phone call in order to analyze Sybil Shade s habits.(p. 23) Botkin describes shade s disappearance from his line of view as a terror , brought upon him by the coming of the night; displaying the level of obsession and predator like behavior slowly building up inside him. Botkin s quick interaction with the instructor on page 24, following the snide remark: I contented myself on my way out with pulling Gerald Emerald s bow tie loose with a deft jerk of my fingers as I passed by him (p. 24) demonstrates his violent tendencies, bottled up inside, giving the reader reason to believe that Botkin s true violence is limitless. Botkin has long seen John Shade as an object of admiration and potential redemption and justification in the academic world. However, it is not until the introduction of ... All the little children living in there are orphans rejected by the wicked world, yet zealously loved by their father [80 110]. No, he is not their biological father one other criterion of the formalist world, which permits the distorted and destroyed relationships between the native parents and children. However, his own world s parameters identify him as their ultimate father. This cozy Cider House world is a tiny spot on earth where children love and respect each other, if only by virtue of the sense of alienation that the other world has cursed them with. Any encounter with the outside world is happy only for one of them: the rest of the kids will not be adopted that soon [84 89]. In fact, the big spotlight in the story is about the two poles or two alternatives facing the protagonists: their Cider home sweet home and the bitter world. The same applies to the central figure, Homer who is an extremely likable person and a fast learner, soon to become as skilled as his teacher. Yet without a diploma another anchor of the outside world stressing the form, the superficiality, the illusion over the intrinsic value. The internet is vast and complex; therefore, it is essential that a user have a fundamental understanding to the power and risks associated to using it. Much like the vast expanse of outer space, much of the internet is not understood and can be scary to become lost in. Protecting the data that is available on the internet is a daunting task with nearly zero possibility of complete protection. Regrettably, the convenience of online shopping also brings great risk to those that utilize it; however, there are a multitude of online shoppers that feel information security will self manage given ample time (Miyazaki Fernandez, 2001). Specific Risks to Data on the Internet Commonly used tactics are prevalent on the internet; in fact, browser attacks have escalated exponentially towards internet users (Bugliesi, Calzavara, Focardi Khan, 2015). In fact, browser attacks looking for cookies present such grave danger that Bugliesi, Calzavara, Focardi Khan (2015) stated modern web browsers implement native protection mechanisms based on the HttpOnly and Secure flags to shield session cookies from unintended access by scripts injected into HTML code, as well as by sniffers tapping the client server link of an HTTP connection (p. 509). Yet another serious risk factor to internet use is browser attacks, which are insidious brute force attacks that savvy hackers will impose; consequently, consumers will oftentimes enter a password to confirm an order and verify the intent of an order (Jing Jang, Yi Chan Gen Yih, 2015). • 10. Romanticism In The Tree Of Life By Terrence Malick When I first heard of the word Romanticism , I automatically assumed it was more of an intricate way to say romance but romanticism is much more than pursuing someone. Romanticism is a movement of art and literature that formulated around the late 18th century that is characterized by strong emotions, individualism and the glorification of all past and nature. The Tree of Life directed by Terrence Malick is a perfect example of romanticism and conforms well with Hugo s manifesto on Romanticism. It is about the story of a family in Waco, Texas in 1950 s that loses one of their sons. Growing up, the eldest son and struggles with his parents conflicting teachings. Later in life he looks back on his childhood and through his memories, tries to find the meaning of life. Terrence s film complies with Hugo s preface on romanticism by featuring moments from the past, incorporation of nature and containing organized religion. In The Tree of Life the journey begins when we learn that a son has died and it takes us on this course of the oldest brother s Jack, reminiscence growing up in this family. As we see him mature in age, his innocence is lost because of his father s questioning family ideals and rules. His father instructs these household manners against his brothers and Jack when their father doesn t follow them himself. So eventually we see the son s back talk to him and revolt against their father. Their mother is a bystander whenever their father is around, but when he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Why You Should Start Shopping For A New Vehicle With all the new 2008 vehicles rolling onto the car dealership lots, it s hard not to start thinking about trading in your wheels for a newer model. Before taking the plunge, consider these tips for getting the best deal. Time is on Your Side There are certain times of the year that are better than others for snagging a great deal on a new vehicle. It just depends on what your goals are. If your goal is to trade up to a 2008 model, the best time to do this is in the spring of 2008. Most dealerships will still have plenty of brand new, never been driven vehiclesout on the lot. If you re simply looking to trade up, then you should start shopping for a 2007 model now. Any models from last year that haven t sold will be deeply discounted to make room for next year s model. Shopping during different months can also yield surprisingly deep discounts. For example, November is historically the slowest month for vehicles sales, new or used. Since the majority of Americans are focused on planning for the holidays, sales slow down significantly. Sales people are more likely to come to their bottom dollar negotiating figure more quickly during November, thereby making negotiations easier on you. Generally, shopping in the early winter months right after the holidays is also a good time to snag deals. If that is not enough, the day of the month you choose to shop can also pay off. The closer to the end of the month you can shop, the better your deal will be. This is because the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the genocide following the start of Operation Searchlight and the attack on Dhaka University there was mass confusion and hysteria among the people. All over, Eastern Pakistan people were wandering aimlessly and in April around thirty million had started to flee in order to escape the grasp of the military. Ten million refugees went into India and overwhelmed the country s resources, which eventually became a catalyst for Indian military intervention. It is worthy to note that a large number of these refugees were Hindu. Additionally, the influx of the Bengali people in India was estimated to be 10 million refugees and it is estimated that 1.5 million stayed in India after Bangladesh gained its independence (GenocideBangladesh). This increase in refugees resulted in a mix of cultures as well. Consequently, this was a negative impact on East Pakistan, and subsequently Bangladesh, for the long term because their intellectuals had fled, depriving them of ideas, new thoughts, and innovation, and proper leadership that could have led them to a higher position in the world today due to the absence of these important people in that time (GenocideBangladesh). Due to the systematic raping of women throughout the country, a large number of females were forced to bear children that they did not want. This was mentally scarring and physically draining to these women and their families. Not to forget that, in the Middle East, it is socially taboo for a women to have sex out of wedlock, leading to her being ignored and shunned in public and by her own kin. Tensions were rising as the western hemisphere finally unraveled the gruesome techniques Hitler practiced on Jews. As Schweitzer concluded, Hitler and the Nazis replaced the organismic theory of states with the racial theory of peoples (Schweitzer 61). To prevent more abuse from happening with Hitler in charge, the United States decided to take action. After Pearl Harbor, the Japanese, who are allies with Germany, were seen as the major threat to the United States. Imprisonment were placed on the Japanese as a way to monitor and prevent Japanese influenced attacks. These actions were brought upon by President Franklin D. Roosevelt shortly after Peal Harbor. As an act to end the war and to get revenge on Pearl Harbor, the United States attacked Japan on August 6th, 1945. There are many similarities between the behavior of the wardens in Stanford Prison Experiment and the behavior of the soldiers at the prison in Abu Ghraib. I think the first and most obvious comparison would be the blatant misuse and abuse of power. In both instances the figures in authority were aware of their ability to make demands that their subordinates had to comply with, and they took full advantage of it. We see this expressed in emotional abuse that the prisoners had to endure. In both cases we forced to perform demeaning tasks for no apparent reason. It is about three men whose names were: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. The bible makes us to understand that the king of the Babylon empire at that time was king Nebuchadnezzar. The story starts off when Nebuchadnezzar built a statute of Gold. Then he invited important people from all over the land to come and see the statute that he built. Daniel chapter 3 verse 4 5 says: Then a herald cried aloud: To you it is commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages, that at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, you shall fall down and worship the gold image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. king Nebuchadnezzar had asked all the people who came to see the statue to fall down and worship the statue. Most of these wave collectors, also known as oscillating water columns are still experimental. This device is regarded as the world most advanced wave to electricity generators. An oscillating water column in Norway is being tested and can produce 500 kilowatts of electricity. A Salter Duck , is another invention that has been developed to produce power from waves. The United States Coast Guard has been using many of these to power generating tools for their navigation lights and audio transmitters. Another type of energy the ocean has to offer is her tides. The Salem Witch Trials For The Puritan Community Texas Tech University A Town Submerged in Hysteria Cornelius Asmerom History To 1877 Professor Corye Beene October 23, 2014 The Salem Witch Trials The Salem Witch Trials were a devastating time period in 1692 for the Puritan community which resulted in 20 innocent people executed. Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts 9 years before the Puritans landed in Massachusetts Bay. Puritans wanted to purify the Church of England and ultimately strive to build a utopian society. John Winthrope who was the first governor of the Massachusetts bay colony described this society as a city upon a hill . This city upon a hill was not going to achieve itself on its own once the Puritans got to Massachusetts Bay. The type of government enforced within their community was a theocracy, meaning that God is the true leader of society, and he expressed his action and will through men and women. This required the community to attend church daily, and if you did not show up people would come and look for you. This outdated form of government enforced and allowed the sexist practices of women because of the strong belief that women were susceptible to the Devils charm. • 29. The Agile Software Development Process Essay Motivation Over the last several years, agile software development processes have become increasingly popular. According to Fowler (2003), the agile software engineering processes attempt to enable more flexible and adaptive software development than the traditional software engineering processes offer. Agile practitioners consider documentation as an important aspect for their projects but there is too little internal documentation available in their projects (Stettina and Heijstek, 2011). Although the documentation is mentioned, it is not anchored in the original process that relies on verbal communication (Schwaber and Beedle, 2001). Verbal communication is susceptible to lapses of memory and after some time it gets progressively harder to recall design rationale. This problem is compounded by team turnaround (Stettina and Heijstek, 2011). The main objective of documenting a project is to instruct consumers about the structure of the system, its functionality, operability and the design structure in case there is need to redesign the system. The primary consumers of the design documentation are those who maintain or upgrade the system. Other stakeholders, such as users, testers, and project managers may also need to know about the system (Selic, B., 2009). However, according to Bran Selic, (2009) software developers do not like to document, as it has no value for them. From the end of the nineteenth century until the attainment of independence in the early 1960s, the countries of East Africa were under the colonial administration of European empires. After decades of foreign rule which saw unparalleled transformations within society, the post colonial states that emerged have been blighted by ethnic conflict. It has been argued that the beliefs of British, Belgian and German administrators led them to completely reorganise the societies they governed based on a fictitious tribal model, and in the process they invented ethnicity. There is a great deal of debate on this matter, though, and its continued relevance to contemporary politics only makes it more vigorous. Before we go on to analyse to what... Carola Lentz may well have described ethnicity as the joker card , a word that can be introduced at any stage in the game, replacing potentially more problematic phrases and assuming the characteristics we require of it, but its introduction is made with the best intentions; in order that we may see ethnicity as a broad and evolving concept that can indeed mean many things simultaneously. The first wave of variation studies established broad correlations between linguistic variables and the macro sociological categories of socioeconomic class, sex class, ethnicity and age. The second wave employed ethnographic methods to explore the local categories and configurations that inhabit, or constitute, these broader categories. In both waves, variation was seen as marking social categories. This paper sets out a theoretical foundation for the third wave, arguing that (1) variation constitutes a robust... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are some very big questions, such as how the system of social meaning is structured, what kinds of social meanings are expressed in variation, how local meanings such as those found on Martha s Vineyard articulate with broad demographic patterns, and how the relation between variants and social meanings becomes conventionalized. In what follows, I will outline an approach to the study of variation that centers on social meaning. This is not a proposal to replace, but to refine and supplement, current approaches to variation. I will begin by tracing the progress of the social study of variation over the past forty five years, in order to illuminate the main issues. The treatment of social meaning in variation has come in three waves of analytic practice. No wave supersedes the previous, but each represents a quite distinct way of thinking about variation, and a distinct methodological and analytic practice, each of which grew out of the findings of the previous wave. Differences Between The Medieval Catholic Church And Pietism The Medieval Catholic Church and Pietism are both rooted in the common ideology that God desires relationship and salvation for all. However, the two differ greatly in missiology, theology and daily practicality. There are major points of divergence between the Medieval Catholic Church and Pietism from which modern day Protestantismdeveloped. Mission theology links systematic theology with practical theology. It outlines and interprets mission systematically and practically from the perspective of God s mission, Christ s mission, the mission of the Holy Spirit and the mission of the Church. The true test of The Medieval Catholic Churchand Pietism regardless of the merging of missiology or the divergence of missiology is determined by how well each one meets the challenge of the triune God s mandated definition of mission. Ultimately, one must adhere to the Great Commission found in Matthew Chapter 28, verses 16 20. in order to accomplish a God centered missiology. Tradition Pietism viewed Scripture as the governing authority of one s life. However, the Medieval Catholic Church embraced Scripture and traditions as authoritative. In fact, Catholicism placed equal emphasis on Scripture and tradition. Pickles Research Paper Thomas Jefferson wrote, On a hot day in Virginia, I know nothing more comforting than a fine spiced pickle, brought up trout like from the sparkling depths of the aromatic jar below the stairs of Aunt Sally s cellar. So what is so special about a pickle? It is a very common side dish in many recipes around the world. But a fact that very few people in the world know is that pickles have been used since time immemorial and many historic figures, including Cleopatra, George Washington and Julius Caesar, liked pickles. English 125 Syllabus The concept of requirements for the English major at Yale University is based upon a desire to inform, and, as explained by the description of English 125 and 126 on the department website, are meant to provide: generous introduction to the abiding formal and thematic concerns of the English literary tradition. A resounding emphasis is put on the benefit the student will receive from the skills that the classes require. However, students would be able to come away with a sharpened awareness of what it means to read with the attentiveness that great literature demands regardless of the content of the syllabus, as long as there was a focus on close reading and form that was adhered to by the professor. With a syllabus centered around woman poets, students would be exposed to more socioeconomically diverse group of poets. While the major poets of the English 125 syllabus were all born into some degree of wealth, the women who acted as supplementary readings for the course were of more varied backgrounds. Isabella Whitney, for example, was born to a lower class English family. Her experiences in life are reflected in her poetry, and starkly contrast the poetry of the major men. While the traditional male poets may not have had the same views, they were privy to a lot of similar experiences due to their class standing, and therefore tackled some of the same issues. To have a different viewpoint and style of writing in terms of not only gender, but of class, is crucial in the development of an English major. The current syllabus requires students to be complacent with the multitude under developed female characters that are created through the eyes of men, and satisfied with the few women who are given deeper personalities, like the Wife of Bath in Chaucer s Canterbury Tales. Such confining works lead to conversation that automatically focuses on the negative when it comes to gender that women are disregarded and often powerless when depicted from the male point of view, unless they are overtly sexualized. From a modern stance, this is seen as a sexist and unfair representation, but based on the current material offered in English 125, it seems as though it is an injustice that must be dealt with to understand the nuances of pivotal English poetry. However, a deeper focus on women poets would eliminate, or at least add dimension to, this type of conversation. There is no reason why students cannot recognize the powerful interactions of form and content between Isabella Whitney s To her Inconstant Lover and Shakespeare s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Parker s Back, Flannery O Connor uses a third person limited point of view. Faulkner s A Rose For Emily employs a first person point of view. Parker likes to maintain control over what is seen and known about him; this is clear in the fact that all of his previous tattoos have been on the front of his body: He had no desire for one anywhere he could not readily see it himself (Kennedy and Gioia 430). On a more abstract level, Parker keeps his real name a secret and goes only by his initials; his first real act of intimacy with Sarah Ruth is to share his name: Obadiah Elihue. The third person limited point of view, therefore, allows the reader to do what both the eyes of Christ in the tattoo and Parker s wife do: to see Parker as he really is, not as he pretends to be.
