In this session the second cohort of Academic and Cultural Enrichment (ACE) Scholars facilitate a dialogue on diversity issues that impact equity and inclusivity in the library and information field and services. Four diversity issues will be introduced through “ignite”presentations, during which experiences, perspectives, challenges and strategies and best practices related to the issues will be discussed, and will conclude with group summaries of strategies. Using a critical lens and in conversation with these recent MLIS graduates (16-20), diversity concerns and barriers in the profession will be uncovered. 20210807 Pandemic Diaries: Ripples in Education
The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has been more than a crisis; it has been a global wake-up call to change our paradigms and the way we perceive the world. Not surprisingly, the pandemic has altered the way we interpret the normal as well as the way we live. Normal, by its nature, is a relative term and, presently, we have different derivations of it: Normal, new normal, and next normal. Nevertheless, it is important to always remember that one’s new normal can be someone else's normal, or one’s normal could have hitherto been a new normal for someone else. Likewise, normal and new normal for some can be the next normal for others. These derivations of normal suggest that we are experiencing an unprecedented time, one marked by major shifts in the way we understand and interpret different areas of life, not least of all education, which has and will continue to undergo changes, particularly in the way we teach and learn.

In the afternoons, students finish classes for the day and the building empties out, leaving Clough Commons with beautiful views of the entire campus. Many believe Clough Commons is the most attractive structure on campus.

Step out of the CMS box with me for a presentation on how freely available web2.0 tools such as twitter are used in my online course and could be used to enhance instruction in general. Tools will be demonstrated, uses will be discussed, and examples shown.
Online social networking, social computing, folksonomy/ social/ collaborative tagging, data mashups, ubiquitous broadband, wireless, hand-held and mobile computing, mobile broadband, and the cultural shift from passive consumers of content to engaged user-generators of content, have brought about a grassroots revolution: we have experienced a global democratization of access to tools, information, experts, content, professional development, and education as evinced by the open courseware and open source software initiatives that have changed how education is delivered, conducted, and defined.
It is important for those of us in the field of online education, as responsible netizens and educators in this moment, to participate, to evaluate, to document, and to expose our students to and engage them in this process. Effective online pedagogical/andragogical practices require that we use the online medium to achieve specific learning objectives and leverage the options and limitations of the online teaching and learning environment to make teaching and learning better, faster, safer, easier, and cheaper. It is not about immigrants vs. natives; it is about enhancing instruction with appropriate technologies that promote student engagement, interaction, and learning.
I incorporated these various web2.0 tools into the course for various reasons, but primarily to open the course boundaries beyond the CMS box to provide students with authentic social learning experiences. I also wanted student access to content they created and contributed to the class to persist beyond the end of the term. I will share with participants the lessons learned as I experimented with ways to enhance online instruction. Student survey results and comments will be presented.

Step out of the CMS box with me for a presentation on how freely available web2.0 tools such as twitter are used in my online course and could be used to enhance instruction in general. Tools will be demonstrated, uses will be discussed, and examples shown.
Online social networking, social computing, folksonomy/ social/ collaborative tagging, data mashups, ubiquitous broadband, wireless, hand-held and mobile computing, mobile broadband, and the cultural shift from passive consumers of content to engaged user-generators of content, have brought about a grassroots revolution: we have experienced a global democratization of access to tools, information, experts, content, professional development, and education as evinced by the open courseware and open source software initiatives that have changed how education is delivered, conducted, and defined.
It is important for those of us in the field of online education, as responsible netizens and educators in this moment, to participate, to evaluate, to document, and to expose our students to and engage them in this process. Effective online pedagogical/andragogical practices require that we use the online medium to achieve specific learning objectives and leverage the options and limitations of the online teaching and learning environment to make teaching and learning better, faster, safer, easier, and cheaper. It is not about immigrants vs. natives; it is about enhancing instruction with appropriate technologies that promote student engagement, interaction, and learning.
I incorporated these various web2.0 tools into the course for various reasons, but primarily to open the course boundaries beyond the CMS box to provide students with authentic social learning experiences. I also wanted student access to content they created and contributed to the class to persist beyond the end of the term. I will share with participants the lessons learned as I experimented with ways to enhance online instruction. Student survey results and comments will be presented.
Learning buffet for flexible learning
Flexible Learning is an excellent method of reaching all types of learners. It is truly a medium that helps to democratize education to all. Today, we are currently experiencing a time of constant evolution in the field of education in which students require more resources and tools to obtain the information and construction of knowledge. One such resource is the use of open and distance learning environment, where the lecturer assigns additional activities for the understanding of the concepts seen before. But there are times when the student does not understand the content because of the form it represents, making it necessary to have more options to facilitate the understanding of content through different ways that may be more attractive to the students, achieving more active participation in the subject and an affinity that leads to a better learning experience. This is the goal of the study, which proposes a model called “Learning Buffet Model” for designing Flexible Learning content adaptable to the student´s learning style. This learning buffet model can be used as a fundamental model and applied in any area or discipline of education as it forces the consideration of four components (leaning style, content, pedagogy and technology) in the design of the lesson plan and subsequently enrich the learning environment with more specific learning objects the subjects taught.

signal or if a car rolls over. Then with the help of GSM module and GPS module, the location
will be sent to the emergency contact. Then after conforming the location necessary action will
be taken. If the person meets with a small accident or if there is no serious threat to anyone’s
life, then the alert message can be terminated by the driver by a switch provided in order to
avoid wasting the valuable time of the medical rescue team.
