Comparing Milner And Goodale s Dichotomy
3.1 Anatomy of the two pathways
As visual information exits in the occipital lobe, it then follows two main pathways.
The dorsal pathway begins with V1, goes through V2, then to the dorsomedial area (DM/
V6) and Visual area MT (middle temporal/ V5) and to the posterior parietal cortex. The
ventral pathway travels from V1, goes through V2, then through visual area V4, and
finally to the inferior temporal cortex (IP cortex).
3.2 History before Milner and Goodale s division
I would like to use a sentence from Goodale Milner (1995) as a beginning. In the
late 1960s, a number of different functional dichotomies of the visual system were
proposed, most of them contrasting the functions of the phylogenetically genetically older
pathway from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Bálint s syndrome is a kind of triad of severe neuropsychological
impairments: inability to perceive the visual field as a whole (simultanagnosia),
difficulty in fixating the eyes (oculomotor apraxia), and inability to move the hand to a
specific object by using vision (optic ataxia) (Bálint, 1909). A patient with bilateral
parietal damages causing disorders of spatial attention, gaze, and visually guided
reaching recovered from this syndrome. After her recovery, she had no difficulty in
recognizing line drawings of common objects, but her ability to pick up those objects
were still remained impaired. This study indicated that damage to the parietal lobe could
impair the ability to use size, shape, and orientations of control the hand and fingers when
the patients need to perform the grasping movement, although their ability to use the
same information to identify and describe the objects preserved (Jakobson, Archibald,
Carey, Goodale, 1991).
Another very important case of the dissociation is the famous patient D.F., who
developed a profound visual form agnosia following carbon monoxide poisoning.

Essay On Fahrenheit 451 And Technology
Is the modern world becoming more like the thoughtless society of Fahrenheit 451? In 1953,
Fahrenheit 451, a classic novel written by Ray Bradbury, was published. This novel contains two main
themes: censorship and technology. Their society is so engrossed in new technology that they neglect
connecting to the world and the people around them. As technology continues to advance in the
modern world, these aspects become more apparent. While some people believe that the world of
Fahrenheit 451 is different from the modern world, society s reliance on technology and actions
regarding censorship show otherwise. Society s dependence on technology has proven to impair
communication skills. In the novel, Mildred and her friends serve as a powerful example of this. One
night, Mildred held a social gathering at her house, which consisted of watching movies. Montag, the
novel s main character, increasingly became more distressed and pulled the TV plug. He proclaimed,
Let s talk (Bradbury 271). The women s reaction to the proclamation suggests they were
uncomfortable. The novel states, The woman jerked and stared (272). As Montag asks them questions
about their lives, they struggle to answer. As a result of making technology the center of their lives,
these women were unable to hold a simple conversation. In addition, following 15 years of research,

As a result, communication between humans has become unreal. People use technology to avoid being
uncomfortable, which may include having a genuine conversation. Technology is increasingly being
used to connect with others, which is not considered effective communication. Similarly, censorship is
continuing to increase and is being used to avoid having learning experiences. If the modern world
continues to practice these aspects, will they eventually become a thoughtless society as seen in

Enuma Elish And Genesis Analysis
The world humans inhabit is a messy place filled with chaos and uncertainty. In attempting to
understand human life in this world, creation stories are helpful since they provide explanations to the
mysteries of life such as good and evil. Two examples of creation myths are Enuma Elish and Genesis
1 4, which both detail the formation of the human world. However, Genesis is better for understanding
human life because it details the beginnings of human life, not just the creation, and the origins of
good and evil. Moreover, the origins of good and evil in Genesis are more like what humans encounter
in the world. In Genesis 1 4, three stories are told in which human life can be understood. The first
story is of creation, which explains why there

Asking For Roses Analysis
Moses Supposes, But Do You Ask for Roses:
A Stylistic and Thematic Interpretation of Asking for Roses
A rose is a rose is a rose. A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet. Love is like a wild rose
briar. Roses are known for their complex features: beauty with ferocious thorns. For this reason, love
has come to be symbolized through a rose; a red, red rose. In Robert Frost s poem Asking for Roses,
the roses are a central symbol to understanding the themes of love and opportunity. The musicality of
the poem employs stylistic choices which also contribute to the poet s messages of the piece:
Opportunities are there for the taking, but if you don t rise to the occasion, nothing will be
accomplished; and a relationship requires ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As roses are a symbol of love, and summer time is a common time for marriages to occur, it is not a
far stretch for Tis summer again; there s two come for roses (Frost 16) to mean the two characters may
be planning a wedding. Receiving the blessing of parents is a quintessential component of an
engagement, and by the end of the poem the characters are perceived as having gained this blessing.
And grants us by silence the boon of her roses (Frost 24). While it may be a small stretch to apply the
concept of marriage to this poem, there are evidently high signs of love present. When Mary is talking
about a maid s knowledge that A flower unplucked is but left to the falling (Frost 19), she may mean
to say that a maid not married is left on her own. She continues to point out that nothing is gained
(Frost 20) if a maid is on her own. The opportunities that marriage provides are not available to a girl
unplucked. Love therefore is not only an emotion, but also an opportunity. Through the theme of love,
another theme is revealed.
Although roses show the theme of love, there is another theme present. Finding the opportunity in
love is evident in A flower unplucked is but left to the falling,/And nothing is gained by not gathering
roses (Frost 19 20). When you do not take a chance, nothing is lost, but nothing is gained either. Roses
provide the beginning connection of love and opportunity, but the theme of

There should be no reason to think that Trumps election will have any effect on cases already passed.
But Trump gets to choose the next supreme court judge because Antonin Scalia just died my sister

Scalia was a republican, and it was with him on the supreme court when gay marriage was legalized.

Internal Revenue Service Pros And Cons
The Internal Revenue Service, more commonly known as the IRS and most commonly known as the
least favored federal agency, was first established during the years of the Civil War to collect taxes
levied to support the war effort in the North. During this time, the revenue bureau was meant to be
temporary and the tax expired in 1872. However, the Commissioner of Internal Revenue and its
successor continued past the expiration date and stayed in effect up to present day in America. The
national income tax in place today was not always a part of the American taxing system, with the
exception of 1894. Congress passed a national income tax, but it was ruled unconstitutional in 1895 by
the Supreme Court decision in Polluck v. Farmers Loan and Trust ... Show more content on

The audit has been dragged out for over nearly a decade regarding Microsoft s overseas subsidiaries,
and an investigation was being conducted in regards to whether the Redmond company improperly
moved software code worth billions of dollars offshore in a way that illegally evaded its U.S. tax bill.
Under current law, corporate profits earned overseas and left overseas are not subject to taxation in
America. The IRS spent years requesting documents and interviews with Microsoft employees
regarding the investigation. In December of 2014, the IRS sued Microsoft in order to force them to
turnover documents and information that the IRS claimed the company failed to provide in the
investigation. Microsoft s position in regards to the IRS is that they abused their federal power when
they hired an outside law firm to aide them in auditing Microsoft. In 2014, the IRS decided to hire an
outside law firm to discuss the case against Microsoft. The problem was that the law firm, Quinn
Emanuel, had little experience handling taxpayer data, and in order for the firm to perform the audit, it
needed the classified, secret tax documents that was provided by the IRS. However, according to
current U.S. law, only employees of the IRS are authorized to view those files. In light of this,
Microsoft asked that the information requested by the IRS should be thrown out

Technology And Its Impact On Our Lives
Computers and technology at large have changed the lives of many people in the world both positively
and negatively. Computers have unveiled many things which have greatly influenced our lives. This
has made many teachers and students to adopt their use in classrooms. However, the use of computers
in our classrooms has been characterized by over reliance on them. Cyber space has also played key
roles in our lives. For instance, there is an increase in the number of research papers done each day
while, on the other hand, movies watched by students has increased. These can be controlled through
regulations and legislation from the governing bodies. However, the author says that Cyberspace is a
voluntary destination and Regardless of how many laws or lawsuit are launched, regulation won t
work . However, many people have used virtual books for their own benefit helping them write good
research papers. We will critically analyze the literature behind the use of technology, mainly
computers, to see how they have influenced our lives both positively and negatively. We will also look
at the effectiveness of computer usage in our classrooms today.
Computers are an advantage for learners in both scientific and technological education as compared to
books. Approximately 2 billion dollars have been used to purchases of more than 2 million computers
in America (Gelemter, 1994). However, computers are awaited in a religious fear in both the poor and

Arguments In Favour Of The Divine Command Theory By Leibniz
After reading chapter one and the passage the moral theory that Leibniz rejects in the passage is called
the divine command theory. The divine command theory is a meta ethical theory which proposes that
an action s status as morally good is equivalent to whether it is commanded by God. It says that right
actions are those that are willed by God, that God literally defines right and wrong. Something is right
or good is only because God makes it so. In the simplest version of the theory, God can determine
right and wrong because he is omnipotent. God is powerful, powerful enough to even create moral
norms. And on that view, God is a divine lawgiver, and his laws constitute mortality. Believers are
divided on whether or not the divine command theory gives us a sensible amount of mortality.
Religious and secular critics of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leibniz is trying to say that even though God is powerful and forgives everyone for the wrong doing
that is done throughout life we are not held to his standards of goodness. God can change his mind of
what he thinks is right and wrong and doesn t have to explain his reasoning or why he did such thing
because he is God. But Leibniz believes that God will lose his holiness by changing his mind as many
times as he wants just because he is God and he can so. Leibniz thinks that people should worship
God for what he believes in and hold him up in his morals and values. Leibniz thinks that people
destroy one another without realizing the harm that they are acting doing. God wants everyone to live
in a society like it used to be, but today everyone is out to hurt and destroy each other whether it s
intentional or not. People can be physically, emotionally, and even verbally hurt by the actions that
people perceive. God wouldn t ever command us to commit heinous acts, because God is all good.
Because of God s supreme goodness, he would only do what is

Pollution And Environmental Pollution
Environmental health is your wellbeing of your surroundings or conditions in which a human, animal,
or plant lives or produces. There things effect your air pollution like carbon monoxide you can get
things like asthma. Also there fresh water there different type of water depend where you live. Finally
there is way to increase your environmental health and those around you.
Cars and trucks produce air pollution throughout their life, carrying pollution emitted during vehicle
service, refueling, construction, and disposal. Additional emissions are combined with the refini ary
and secondary pollution. Primary pollution is emitted directly into the air; secondary pollution results
from chemical reactions between toxins in the atmosphere. The accompanying are the principal
pollutants from motor vehicles. These particles of soot and metals give smog its dark color.
Fine particles less than one tenth the width of an individual hair give the most significant hazard to
individual condition, as they can penetrate far into lungs. PM is a leading primary pollution and a
secondary pollution from hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxides. Diesel exhaust is a
significant donor to PM pollution.

The Position Of Proventus Capital Partners
The position of Proventus Capital Partners (PCP) as a bondholder of Corral Petroleum AB bond was
difficult. Even though PCP s holding of Preem notes was only about 1% of the total par amount, but
they had invested approximately $7million in dollar and euro denominated bonds at around 60% of
par. PCP felt there was considerable upside in this position. However, PCP had been aware of the risks
when acquiring the bonds in the weak operating performance of the oil refining such as the low oil
price, excess capacity and the high leverage of Preem compare to many firms in the industry. PCP was
considered the long performance of the firm in the future because Preem was more profitable than
many of its peers. The economic turmoil that affected oil price was created conflict of interest between
bondholders and syndicated banks as creditors. For instance, Corral was unable to make coupon
payment because Preem was now disallowed from transferring profit to Corral. If each party insists on
taking their own advantage to save their assets and avoid loss, there was one party loss in their
investment in Corral and Preem. Alternatively, all parties included the owner might draw an
agreement that provides win win solution to all parties. Several possible scenarios that PCP had to
consider were: a. Complete or partial sale of assets. The sale of some Preem s assets might generate
immediate cash. But, the uniqueness of business makes uncertainty in pricing and buyer in the
economic downturn.

Why Nations Fail By Daron Acemoglu And James A. Robinson
Why Nations Fail by Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson explains the different and unique
origins of power, prosperity, and poverty for certain nations. The preface of Why Nations Fail
foreshadows what is next to come by explaining that key historical events in life can make or break a
country s success and future. Next, each chapter dives into these key historical events, known as case
studies, and analyses that chapter s nation(s) and why the nation is either poverty stricken or
prosperous. This is known as the book s methodology. The authors give examples such as with
inclusive and extractive institutions to argue against theories that suggest why nations are poor that are
not correct such as the geography hypothesis, culture hypothesis, and ignorance hypothesis. This book
argues that nations have and will continue to fail politically and economically if they implement
extractive institutions instead of inclusive institutions. The gap in literature between the authors of
Why Nations Fail and other authors of works of non fiction that describe why nations fail is the nature
of specific institutions. These institutions are inclusive economic institutions, inclusive political
institutions, extractive economic institutions, and extractive political institutions. These different
institutions are the main focus of the book. The authors go on in detail as to why these institutions are
so key to understanding how a nation became to poverty stricken or rich. The authors of Why Nations
Fail particularly dislike and articulate why hypothesis such as the geography, ignorance and culture
hypothesis are not sufficient evidence for why a nation was and still continue to be poor to this day.
These hypotheses can be known as the fallacious hypotheses. The first fallacious hypothesis is the
geography hypothesis. The geography hypothesis states that the differences between countries and
their economic success is due their geography and where they are located. For example, the French
philosopher Montesquieu believed that tropical climates were less prosperous than temperate climates
because the soil is not the most productive and the tropical climate made the inhabitants lazy, and
therefore making them work less and

Kundera is basically saying that various methods of art and culture attempt to evade issues that may

Empirical Justification On The Right Track By Accepting...
Foundationalism empirical justification is on the right track by accepting basic belief although there
are some complications I will be attempting to show how non propositional and non conceptual states
can stand in evidentiary relation to propositions. There is still some work must be done to prove what
can constitute as basic beliefs and how they develop a sense of truth. Epistemological account of
empirical knowledge must provide a general account of standards of epistemic justification that
pertains to such knowledge. (Bonjour SEK 2, 16) In order to identify empirical knowledge there must
be some kind of criteria that distinguished empirical knowledge for other kinds of knowledge. In
attempt to provide various accounts of standards of epistemic justification to justify knowledge the
regress problem arises. We tend to use inferential justification to justify our beliefs by inferring that
our beliefs are based of other beliefs. In order to qualify as inferential justification three conditions
must be meet. (1) There needs to be some sort of information that can support the belief with some
certainty that can be used as justification. (2) We must believe the information obtained for support is
true in order to qualify as inferential justification. (3) We need to have good reason to believe the
information to be true. Indicating that beliefs that are not justified can not be used to justify other
beliefs. The regress problem is as follows; each belief is justified only

American Renaissance Writers
The American Renaissance, in literary circles occurred during the middle to late 1800s. One of the
most important influences of the period was that of the transcendentalists (Britannica, 2011). Major
writers during this perid had a common bond. Their platform was an idealic system of thought based
on a belief in the essential unity of all creation, the innate goodness of man, and the supremacy of
insight over logic and experience for revelation of the deepest truths. (Britannica, 2011). Among these
writers and philosophers were many great Americans such as Edgar Allen Poe and Ralph Waldo
Emmerson. It is important to note; however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was then that she became a voice against the ill treatment of slaves. She was inspired by the
movement unintentionally. Emily Dickinson was following a transcendental ideal; she was being true
to herself and being an individual at all costs, as opposed to conforming to a world of followers.
Keeping Dickinson s famous reclusivity in mind, one could say that in her lifetime she was neither a
leader nor a follower. Dickinson never tied herself to a specific school of thought or philosophy, she
was simply herself (American Transcendentalism Web, 2011). Without realizing it, Dickinson too was
a large part of the transcendental movement. Louisa May Alcott, was a transcendentalist as well, but
unapologetically. Her father was a leading voice and teacher of the movement; therefore, the
principles were engrained in her very makeup. The idea that, reality exists only in the spirit world, and
that things which are seen in the physical world are only reflections of the spirit world, was the basis
of her writings (Walker, 2010).
Role of Poetry
Poetry played a significant role in the American Renassiance primarily because those who wrote the
poems were largely involved in the movement, or were deeply passionate about their lives and the
various causes they stood for. It is sad but true that many of the writers were able to present such

William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying Essays
William Faulkner s As I Lay Dying
In his book, As I Lay Dying, William Faulkner pioneers new and interesting literary forms. His most
obvious deviation from traditional novel writing was the new style of narration in which he used all
the main characters as the narrator at one point or another. This allowed the reader to gain insight into
the character s thoughts, and also to prove very interesting and entertaining. Faulkner also ignores all
boundaries that sane people have placed upon the English language to keep it readable. Faulkner
forges his own set of rules for syntax that allow for a very choppy yet elegant stream of consciousness
in the character s narration. Lastly, Faulkner makes incredible leaps away from established ... Show

Faulkner does a great job of varying the attitudes and styles of the characters as they narrate in turn,
but this creates a confusing atmosphere, especially in the first few chapters. For instance, the first
section is narrated by Darl who talks about Jewel, Tull, and Cash like we are supposed to know who
they are. The next section is by Cora who mentions Addie, Kate, and Mrs. Lawington, and talking
about issues with each one of them, and we still don t know who Darl is. As you could imagine, this
creates quite a bit of confusion in the first part of the book, until the reader can sort through the
characters, but by that time, a quarter of the book is gone and needs to be reread. An upside of this
method, however, is that it allows the author the full use of the minds of his characters, and he can
create a more clear picture of their thoughts.
Another peculiarity of the narration of this book was the idea of stream of consciousness. Faulkner
uses his words to try to express what the characters are thinking at that moment. The thoughts tend to
ramble a little, with one idea leading onto another, and many of them not making sense unless some
assumptions are made of past events. This form of narration is made possibly by the use of fragment
sentences, run ons, and many other strange

before it sets in and ruins your rug. Here is what you need to put into your kit, and what it can be used
for. Cloth The first thing you want to put into your first aid oriental rug kit is some clean white clothes
that are very absorbent. Microfiber clothes are very absorbed and would make a great addition to your
kit. White clothes are better than colored cloth because you can see if the stain you are working on has
been absorbed. You ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once again, white is the preferred color so you can more easily see the stain you are trying to pick up.
You can use this to blot the stain. Eye Dropper The third thing you want to put into your kit is an eye
dropper. An eye dropper will allow you to apply whatever cleaning solution you are using in a very
precise manner. Due to the sensitive nature of oriental rugs, this tool will help you to only apply the
cleaning solution to the stain. Natural Enzyme Liquid Detergent The fourth thing you need is some
natural enzyme liquid detergent. A natural liquid detergent will be more gently on your oriental rug.
You can mix the natural liquid detergent with water, and use it to clean a wide variety of stains. You
can just put the detergent in there, or you can mix up a solution of natural detergent with water in a
spray bottle or container. White Vinegar Solution The fifth thing you need to do is create a white
vinegar solution. Mix together a solution that contains two parts of water to one part white vinegar.
This solution is very alkaline on stains. It works well on a wide variety of stains, and should be where
you head to next if simple water and soap does not remove the

Dear White People Sociology
After watching the film Dear White People, I was not entirely sure if I enjoyed the production or not.
At first, I was not a fan of the movie, but about midway through I started appreciating it more. I think
producer Justin Simien appropriately used satire in the film by almost ridiculing every cast member,
not just focusing on someone who was heterosexual, black, white, or what socioeconomic class they
came from. I am sure at different colleges and universities race relations exist. I personally have not
experienced any type of negative race conflict here, at The College of New Jersey. To get the most
obvious social identity portrayed in the film out of the way and perhaps the most critical to the
production, race. It mainly focused on black, white, and mixed race people. One character who I felt
personally portrayed the black stereotype the most was the man who was interested in producing the
television show, Helmut West. While he himself did not necessarily come off as a typical black male,
whatever that may be, he tried to push black female stereotypes on Colandrea, more commonly known
as Coco in the movie. To him, she was not ghetto enough for the role, and she tailored her personality
to be what he needed in order to get what she wanted. While watching Coco transform herself to be

While I feel there was not a lot of it the issue was still touched upon. In the scene when Troy and
Sophia are walking up the stairs, they pass what I believe is the school store and Sam s current
boyfriend, Reggie is working it. There is banter exchanged between Troy and Reggie and at some
point Troy says something along the lines of You are just trying to fuck my leftovers. To me, this was
blatantly disrespectful to Sophia, Troy s current girlfriend, whom he was standing right next to. This
also makes it seem as if Sam is just an object up for grabs, not a real human being with emotions, just
something to

Essay about Daniel Keys Flowers For Algernon
CHARLY
The book Flowers For Algernon , by Daniel Keys was written in 1961. Later, Richard Heynes decided
to produce the movie in 1968 properly called Charly . There are both similarities and differences
between the two. However, the differences play a more crucial role between the two rather then the
similarities.
One major difference between the movie and book is the events that took place. One example is when
Charly met Fay. This never happened in the movie. But in the movie, when he met her he let all of his
inner feeling out into the open and had a great time. In the movie he only went away for awhile and
even then he only had what seemed to be a few short flings. With Fay, Charly was able express
himself to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donner s bakery he was never harassed by the new employee. This was when Joe Carp and the other
realized that Charly was back to his old self. Joe Carp roughed up the bully and got him fired for his
actions directed at Charly.
Another major difference between the book and movie is the traits and actions taken by the characters.
One example is Alice Kinnian. In the story, she is depicted as a quiet, non aggressive person, but in the
movie she is very much the opposite in character. For one, she never really made a move towards
Charly, however, in the movie, she is the more aggressive between the two. Also, towards the end of
the movie, Alice asked Charly to marry her and that never even happened in the novel at all. Charly is
another character who is given different traits and actions in the movie then the book. In the book, he
is a kind, warm hearted man who couldn t harm a fly. Believe it or not in the movie Charly tried to
sexually assault Alice. In the book he never ever would have tried to do such a horrible thing to Alice.
Also, he got very upset when he found out that he failed one of the tests given to him at the laboratory.
He could have cared less if he failed in the book. Charly s family is something else that was never
mentioned in the movie, and it s probably the most important difference of them all. It is the most
important because of the fact that when Charly went to visit his family, it brought to him a great deal
of happiness

A Society Fighting for Social Change Essay
The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win (Marx). While living
in London as an adult Karl Marx realized that he was living in a very rich country but only small
portion of the people were benefiting from the riches of the country and the larger portion was
suffering from poverty. The people that were enjoying the riches of the country he referred to as
capitalists, these people seek profit from the factories and businesses that the owned. Then there were
the people he considered as proletarians, these people sold their labor for wages to the capitalist. Marx
started to think of the idea of social conflict; Investopedia defines the conflict theory as a state of
perpetual conflict due to competition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marx broke down alienation into four different categories, Alienation from the act of working,
Alienation from the products of work, Alienation from the workers and Alienation from human
potential. Marx believed that the only way things could start to change was if the proletarians started
to demonstrate conflict. Proletarians needed to say what it was that they needed and wanted so that
their capitalist could have been aware of what they were interested in, what they wanted and needed in
order for them to survive and what they needed in the organization while working for them to be
comfortable, this was the only way that changes would have be able to come about. It was not
guarantee that with each and every conflict change would have occurred. Also, not at the first sight of
conflict there would have been change. The proletarians needed to be ready to have kept the conflicts
reoccurring and consistent in order for changes to come about because the capitalist would not create
change at the first sight of conflict because they believed that the way things were going at that time
were the best possible options available and they were no need for change. The capitalist were okay
with having the proletarians on very low wages in order for them to get the most profits out of the
products and services that they were offering. The

John Everett Millais Ophelia
During 1852, John Everett Millais created an astounding masterpiece, of oil on canvas, called
Ophelia. The primary focus is the character of Ophelia from Shakespeare s play Hamlet. The painting
is made to illustrate the tragic death of Ophelia in Shakespeare s play Hamlet, where she fell in the
stream and drowned. In the painting, Ophelia is observed lying down in the middle of a running,
narrow, river. She is painted with a long white dress layered with lace and beads highlighting her
importance in the painting. Ophelia s body is shown submerged with only her face, neck, breasts, and
hands floating at the surface, along with parts of her dress. Her hair is shown drifting in the water
around her head demonstrating her lost youth with her hands submissively turned up. Her face is ...

He painted white flowers on both ends of her in a straight path bringing the viewers eyes to her, the
brownness of the tree on top of Ophelia s head attracts attention which also leads to Ophelia. The
painting was made in a way to make the viewer relate to the painting on a deeper level. Thus, the
flowers around her illustrate her delicacy. The flowers on the bushes and ground are white signifying
purity and peace ( Ophelia s Flowers ). While in accordance with the story, the roses signify her
brother s nickname for her rose of may . While the willows, nettles, and daisies illustrate abandoned
love, innocence and pain (Bill). As for the chain of violets around Ophelia s neck, it demonstrates
virginity and faithfulness (Bill). In conclusion, Millais might have chosen to illustrate the illusion of
space to represent a more realistic setting, however the artist still desired to keep the attention directed

Taking On Multiple Perspectives For An American Adult
The idea of taking on multiple perspectives can be applied to many scenarios, from making decisions
as the president of a nation to running a day care. One of the most accessible perspectives for an
American adult is the small business. By engaging in the perspective of other people at a business you
either work at or are a customer at, you gain a certain understanding that makes you more relaxed and
more pleasant. For example we can take an almost universal experience in the developed world,
ordering food at a fast food restaurant.
Let s say there is a line of customers during the lunch rush at your average fast food restaurant. The
line is taking extraordinarily long because there is only one person running the register and one person

Next in line is person B. Person B realizes that everyone in line is there for food and must be just as
hungry as they are. He realizes that there are only two employees and that they are working very hard
to serve as many people as they are, perhaps they have been in that situation. Person B has a greater
understanding of the perspective of those around him and in turn is much calmer than person A.
This example of taking on multiple perspectives shares in Zhuangzi s philosophy but is different from
his examples. The closest example would be the story of the butcher. A good butcher changes his
chopper every year because he chips it. And average butcher changes it every month because he
breaks it (Zhuangzi, ch.3). This is demonstrating two people, doing essentially the same thing, but the
way they do it makes their life more or less difficult. As the butchers gain a greater understanding of
the oxen they become more proficient.
When I first began cutting up oxen, I did not see anything but oxen. Three years later, I couldn t see
the whole ox. And now, I encounter them with spirit and don t look with my eye ... That s why after
nineteen years the blade of my chopper is still as though fresh from the grindstone. (Zhuangzi, Ch.3)
In the restaurant example person B is a better customer than person A. In something as simple as being
a customer it is safe to say that becoming irrationally upset would be analogous to

The Tragedy Of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
The Tragedy of PTSD Twenty veterans a day take their own lives in this nation. Suicide among
military veterans is a tragic epidemic in our country. Out of every 100,00 veterans, 3.53% commit
suicide; however, for every 100,000 civilian adults only 1.52% take that same drastic action
(Thompson). A man by the name of Peter Kaisen from Islip, NY was denied treatment at the Northport
VA for mental health issues. He was upset that he was turned away for treatment so he went directly to
his car outside the VA and shot himself in the head (Rebelo). Multiple tales such as this graphic
suicide are happening across the country. I felt this shockwave when my close friend and team leader,
Corporal Christopher J Carter took his own life by crashing and burning alive in his car. His suicide
was another demonstration of failing to receive the proper treatment for Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder. A veteran commits suicide every 72 minutes, this is a problem fueled by the incompetence
and difficulty of receiving treatment by the Veterans Health Affairs, a negative stigma that causes
veterans to suffer silently from their mental issues, as well as a failed preventative approach on
stopping destructive behavior before it s too late. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is where a person has
residual mental and physical effects from witnessing an extremely traumatic experience. Some
examples of this are getting into a massive car crash, being sexually assaulted or being in a combat
zone and

Domestic Surveillance During The United States
Domestic Surveillance in the Unites States has been going on for decades without the public s
knowledge. Domestic Surveillance didn t seem important in the eye of the American government.
After the September attacks (9/11) congress started to treat Domestic Surveillance as a number one
priority. After September 11th Congress passed a law to use military force for those responsible for the
attacks in New York, NY. The go ahead with using military force did not give the President to use
surveillance without a warrant. Congress started to pass legislation against counterterrorism efforts.
The most controversial measures, including the 2001 USA Patriot Act that gave the US federal
government the ability to collect and analyze private information that has identified itself with the
United States of America.
With new found ways of viewing American citizens personal information the federal government had
to learn how not to get caught. American citizens have right to their privacy and with all the new
Domestic Surveillance programs many were warrantless. In 2002 Bush signed a presidential order
allowing the National Security Agency to monitor without a warrant. This presidential order applied to
international telephone calls and e mail messages of thousands of citizens and legal residents inside
the United States. This program never had the requirements to obtain or produce a warrant from the
Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court but, as the 4th Amendment to the Constitution

My Proposal For Children Under The Age Of Six
Yi Qu Dr. Anne Heintzman 2014/10/30 Word Count: 980 Competitive Analysis Introduction My
proposal is for helping children under the age of six in China stand to benefit from increased access to
high quality preschool education. Since 1979, the one child policy has been in effect for 30 years in
China. The first generation of single child are now growing into childbearing age. The one child
policy in China is altering family roles and child rearing practices, raising concerns about the possible
harmful effects of too much attention and pampering. It has strengthened the emphasis on education
for young children. Children in China enter elementary school and take a systematically education at
age 6, before that most of the young parents let ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no history of a dual development of one type of full day program to provide care for children
of working mothers and another type of half day program to provide education for children of non
employed mothers. Education replaces physical care as the primary emphasis in this program. Class
size increases with age, ranging from 20 to 40 children. Each group typically has two teachers and a
nurse. Preschool: Serve children upper age 5. A part of the elementary school. It is a typically half day
program serving children the year prior to the 1st grade. Comparable to U.S. public kindergartens,
these classes usually place greater emphasis upon academics and use teaching methods similar to
those of the Chinese elementary classrooms. In both of those three kind of program, there is a
common problem. Those children rarely work independently or in self selected group tasks. On the
contrary, the point is on following teacher s guidance, instead of self invention. All the children will
do the same thing at the same time. For example, in a typical art class, teacher demonstrates how to
fold and twist a paper butterfly. Then she check every child doing the same step before proceed to the
next step. Painting class usually include children to copy an object of the teacher. Even if the use of
teaching toys, all children are using the same toy at the same time.

My Adventure Essay
As blood ran through my system like race fuel, as I raced around the ancient temple. The pounding of
my heart upon my chest like a v8 in a stock car, meant I was running at 110%. I stared back at the
temple was crumbling, I was almost to the window I could taste the humid jungle air already.I could
feel my legs burning, my feet losing sensation and my lungs gasping for air. Finally, with the last of
my energy I push off of the ledge and plummeted towards fate, as my life rested in God s hands as I
fell 150ft into the abyss. I could bring these tall tales to college, but I rather talk about my personal
adventure. The story of my adventure to Paris to experience the rich French culture. To explore the
Spanish culture while I was in Spanish immersion. I may not be an explorer of ancient ruins, however I
still explore different cultures, as well as explored unique opportunities that expanded my knowledge
and skills, all this has added up to unique attributes I hold, and are willing to share. Traveling around
the world may be a dream for some, but for me I rather explore the world. I ve been to many tourist
spots, it a devastating sight to see so many people take a photo, stare at whatever it is and then leave.
They never stay and learn about the culture and history of that spot. I m so grateful that I was a part of
the Spanish immersion program of my school. I was able to learn so much, and I gained a greater view
of the world. Currently I m no longer enrolled, however I took

  • 4. Essay On Fahrenheit 451 And Technology Is the modern world becoming more like the thoughtless society of Fahrenheit 451? In 1953, Fahrenheit 451, a classic novel written by Ray Bradbury, was published. This novel contains two main themes: censorship and technology. Their society is so engrossed in new technology that they neglect connecting to the world and the people around them. As technology continues to advance in the modern world, these aspects become more apparent. While some people believe that the world of Fahrenheit 451 is different from the modern world, society s reliance on technology and actions regarding censorship show otherwise. Society s dependence on technology has proven to impair communication skills. In the novel, Mildred and her friends serve as a powerful example of this. One night, Mildred held a social gathering at her house, which consisted of watching movies. Montag, the novel s main character, increasingly became more distressed and pulled the TV plug. He proclaimed, Let s talk (Bradbury 271). The women s reaction to the proclamation suggests they were uncomfortable. The novel states, The woman jerked and stared (272). However, Genesis is better for understanding human life because it details the beginnings of human life, not just the creation, and the origins of good and evil. A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet. Love is like a wild rose briar. Roses are known for their complex features: beauty with ferocious thorns. For this reason, love has come to be symbolized through a rose; a red, red rose. She continues to point out that nothing is gained (Frost 20) if a maid is on her own. The opportunities that marriage provides are not available to a girl unplucked. Love therefore is not only an emotion, but also an opportunity. Through the theme of love, another theme is revealed. Although roses show the theme of love, there is another theme present. It says that right actions are those that are willed by God, that God literally defines right and wrong. Something is right or good is only because God makes it so. In the simplest version of the theory, God can determine right and wrong because he is omnipotent. God is powerful, powerful enough to even create moral norms. • 16. Why Nations Fail By Daron Acemoglu And James A. Robinson Why Nations Fail by Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson explains the different and unique origins of power, prosperity, and poverty for certain nations. The preface of Why Nations Fail foreshadows what is next to come by explaining that key historical events in life can make or break a country s success and future. Next, each chapter dives into these key historical events, known as case studies, and analyses that chapter s nation(s) and why the nation is either poverty stricken or prosperous. This is known as the book s methodology. The authors give examples such as with inclusive and extractive institutions to argue against theories that suggest why nations are poor that are not correct such as the geography hypothesis, culture hypothesis, and ignorance hypothesis. This book argues that nations have and will continue to fail politically and economically if they implement extractive institutions instead of inclusive institutions. The gap in literature between the authors of Why Nations Fail and other authors of works of non fiction that describe why nations fail is the nature of specific institutions. These institutions are inclusive economic institutions, inclusive political institutions, extractive economic institutions, and extractive political institutions. These different institutions are the main focus of the book. The authors go on in detail as to why these institutions are so key to understanding how a nation became to poverty stricken or rich. The authors of Why Nations Fail particularly dislike and articulate why hypothesis such as the geography, ignorance and culture hypothesis are not sufficient evidence for why a nation was and still continue to be poor to this day. These hypotheses can be known as the fallacious hypotheses. The first fallacious hypothesis is the geography hypothesis. The geography hypothesis states that the differences between countries and their economic success is due their geography and where they are located. For example, the French philosopher Montesquieu believed that tropical climates were less prosperous than temperate climates because the soil is not the most productive and the tropical climate made the inhabitants lazy, and therefore making them work less and ... Foundationalism empirical justification is on the right track by accepting basic belief although there are some complications I will be attempting to show how non propositional and non conceptual states can stand in evidentiary relation to propositions. There is still some work must be done to prove what can constitute as basic beliefs and how they develop a sense of truth. Epistemological account of empirical knowledge must provide a general account of standards of epistemic justification that pertains to such knowledge. In attempt to provide various accounts of standards of epistemic justification to justify knowledge the regress problem arises. We tend to use inferential justification to justify our beliefs by inferring that our beliefs are based of other beliefs. In order to qualify as inferential justification three conditions must be meet. Their platform was an idealic system of thought based on a belief in the essential unity of all creation, the innate goodness of man, and the supremacy of insight over logic and experience for revelation of the deepest truths. His most obvious deviation from traditional novel writing was the new style of narration in which he used all the main characters as the narrator at one point or another. This allowed the reader to gain insight into the character s thoughts, and also to prove very interesting and entertaining. Faulkner also ignores all boundaries that sane people have placed upon the English language to keep it readable. Faulkner forges his own set of rules for syntax that allow for a very choppy yet elegant stream of consciousness in the character s narration. Lastly, Faulkner makes incredible leaps away from established ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Faulkner does a great job of varying the attitudes and styles of the characters as they narrate in turn, but this creates a confusing atmosphere, especially in the first few chapters. For instance, the first section is narrated by Darl who talks about Jewel, Tull, and Cash like we are supposed to know who they are. The next section is by Cora who mentions Addie, Kate, and Mrs. Lawington, and talking about issues with each one of them, and we still don t know who Darl is. As you could imagine, this creates quite a bit of confusion in the first part of the book, until the reader can sort through the characters, but by that time, a quarter of the book is gone and needs to be reread. An upside of this method, however, is that it allows the author the full use of the minds of his characters, and he can create a more clear picture of their thoughts. Another peculiarity of the narration of this book was the idea of stream of consciousness. Faulkner uses his words to try to express what the characters are thinking at that moment. At first, I was not a fan of the movie, but about midway through I started appreciating it more. I think producer Justin Simien appropriately used satire in the film by almost ridiculing every cast member, not just focusing on someone who was heterosexual, black, white, or what socioeconomic class they came from. I am sure at different colleges and universities race relations exist. I personally have not experienced any type of negative race conflict here, at The College of New Jersey. To get the most obvious social identity portrayed in the film out of the way and perhaps the most critical to the production, race. It mainly focused on black, white, and mixed race people. One character who I felt personally portrayed the black stereotype the most was the man who was interested in producing the television show, Helmut West. While he himself did not necessarily come off as a typical black male, whatever that may be, he tried to push black female stereotypes on Colandrea, more commonly known as Coco in the movie. To him, she was not ghetto enough for the role, and she tailored her personality to be what he needed in order to get what she wanted. While watching Coco transform herself to be what West ... In the scene when Troy and Sophia are walking up the stairs, they pass what I believe is the school store and Sam s current boyfriend, Reggie is working it. There is banter exchanged between Troy and Reggie and at some point Troy says something along the lines of You are just trying to fuck my leftovers. To me, this was blatantly disrespectful to Sophia, Troy s current girlfriend, whom he was standing right next to. This also makes it seem as if Sam is just an object up for grabs, not a real human being with emotions, just something to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Essay about Daniel Keys Flowers For Algernon CHARLY The book Flowers For Algernon , by Daniel Keys was written in 1961. Later, Richard Heynes decided to produce the movie in 1968 properly called Charly . There are both similarities and differences between the two. However, the differences play a more crucial role between the two rather then the similarities. One major difference between the movie and book is the events that took place. One example is when Charly met Fay. This never happened in the movie. But in the movie, when he met her he let all of his inner feeling out into the open and had a great time. In the movie he only went away for awhile and even then he only had what seemed to be a few short flings. With Fay, Charly was able express himself to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Donner s bakery he was never harassed by the new employee. This was when Joe Carp and the other realized that Charly was back to his old self. Joe Carp roughed up the bully and got him fired for his actions directed at Charly. Another major difference between the book and movie is the traits and actions taken by the characters. One example is Alice Kinnian. In the story, she is depicted as a quiet, non aggressive person, but in the movie she is very much the opposite in character. For one, she never really made a move towards Charly, however, in the movie, she is the more aggressive between the two. Also, towards the end of the movie, Alice asked Charly to marry her and that never even happened in the novel at all. Charly is another character who is given different traits and actions in the movie then the book. In the book, he is a kind, warm hearted man who couldn t harm a fly. Believe it or not in the movie Charly tried to sexually assault Alice. In the book he never ever would have tried to do such a horrible thing to Alice. Also, he got very upset when he found out that he failed one of the tests given to him at the laboratory. He could have cared less if he failed in the book. Charly s family is something else that was never mentioned in the movie, and it s probably the most important difference of them all. It is the most important because of the fact that when Charly went to visit his family, it brought to him a great deal of happiness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. A Society Fighting for Social Change Essay The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win (Marx). While living in London as an adult Karl Marx realized that he was living in a very rich country but only small portion of the people were benefiting from the riches of the country and the larger portion was suffering from poverty. The people that were enjoying the riches of the country he referred to as capitalists, these people seek profit from the factories and businesses that the owned. Then there were the people he considered as proletarians, these people sold their labor for wages to the capitalist. Marx started to think of the idea of social conflict; Investopedia defines the conflict theory as a state of perpetual conflict due to competition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marx broke down alienation into four different categories, Alienation from the act of working, Alienation from the products of work, Alienation from the workers and Alienation from human potential. Marx believed that the only way things could start to change was if the proletarians started to demonstrate conflict. Proletarians needed to say what it was that they needed and wanted so that their capitalist could have been aware of what they were interested in, what they wanted and needed in order for them to survive and what they needed in the organization while working for them to be comfortable, this was the only way that changes would have be able to come about. It was not guarantee that with each and every conflict change would have occurred. Also, not at the first sight of conflict there would have been change. The proletarians needed to be ready to have kept the conflicts reoccurring and consistent in order for changes to come about because the capitalist would not create change at the first sight of conflict because they believed that the way things were going at that time were the best possible options available and they were no need for change. The capitalist were okay with having the proletarians on very low wages in order for them to get the most profits out of the products and services that they were offering. The ... • 28. Taking On Multiple Perspectives For An American Adult The idea of taking on multiple perspectives can be applied to many scenarios, from making decisions as the president of a nation to running a day care. One of the most accessible perspectives for an American adult is the small business. By engaging in the perspective of other people at a business you either work at or are a customer at, you gain a certain understanding that makes you more relaxed and more pleasant. For example we can take an almost universal experience in the developed world, ordering food at a fast food restaurant. Let s say there is a line of customers during the lunch rush at your average fast food restaurant. The line is taking extraordinarily long because there is only one person running the register and one person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next in line is person B. Person B realizes that everyone in line is there for food and must be just as hungry as they are. He realizes that there are only two employees and that they are working very hard to serve as many people as they are, perhaps they have been in that situation. Person B has a greater understanding of the perspective of those around him and in turn is much calmer than person A. This example of taking on multiple perspectives shares in Zhuangzi s philosophy but is different from his examples. The closest example would be the story of the butcher. A good butcher changes his chopper every year because he chips it. And average butcher changes it every month because he breaks it (Zhuangzi, ch.3). This is demonstrating two people, doing essentially the same thing, but the way they do it makes their life more or less difficult. As the butchers gain a greater understanding of the oxen they become more proficient. When I first began cutting up oxen, I did not see anything but oxen. Three years later, I couldn t see the whole ox. And now, I encounter them with spirit and don t look with my eye ... That s why after nineteen years the blade of my chopper is still as though fresh from the grindstone. (Zhuangzi, Ch.3) In the restaurant example person B is a better customer than person A. In something as simple as being a customer it is safe to say that becoming irrationally upset would be analogous to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Tragedy Of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder The Tragedy of PTSD Twenty veterans a day take their own lives in this nation. Suicide among military veterans is a tragic epidemic in our country. Out of every 100,00 veterans, 3.53% commit suicide; however, for every 100,000 civilian adults only 1.52% take that same drastic action (Thompson). A man by the name of Peter Kaisen from Islip, NY was denied treatment at the Northport VA for mental health issues. He was upset that he was turned away for treatment so he went directly to his car outside the VA and shot himself in the head (Rebelo). Multiple tales such as this graphic suicide are happening across the country. I felt this shockwave when my close friend and team leader, Corporal Christopher J Carter took his own life by crashing and burning alive in his car. His suicide was another demonstration of failing to receive the proper treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. A veteran commits suicide every 72 minutes, this is a problem fueled by the incompetence and difficulty of receiving treatment by the Veterans Health Affairs, a negative stigma that causes veterans to suffer silently from their mental issues, as well as a failed preventative approach on stopping destructive behavior before it s too late. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is where a person has residual mental and physical effects from witnessing an extremely traumatic experience. Some examples of this are getting into a massive car crash, being sexually assaulted or being in a combat zone and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Domestic Surveillance didn t seem important in the eye of the American government. After the September attacks (9/11) congress started to treat Domestic Surveillance as a number one priority. After September 11th Congress passed a law to use military force for those responsible for the attacks in New York, NY. The go ahead with using military force did not give the President to use surveillance without a warrant. Congress started to pass legislation against counterterrorism efforts. The most controversial measures, including the 2001 USA Patriot Act that gave the US federal government the ability to collect and analyze private information that has identified itself with the United States of America. With new found ways of viewing American citizens personal information the federal government had to learn how not to get caught. American citizens have right to their privacy and with all the new Domestic Surveillance programs many were warrantless. In 2002 Bush signed a presidential order allowing the National Security Agency to monitor without a warrant. This presidential order applied to international telephone calls and e mail messages of thousands of citizens and legal residents inside the United States. This program never had the requirements to obtain or produce a warrant from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court but, as the 4th Amendment to the Constitution ... My Proposal For Children Under The Age Of Six Yi Qu Dr. Anne Heintzman 2014/10/30 Word Count: 980 Competitive Analysis Introduction My proposal is for helping children under the age of six in China stand to benefit from increased access to high quality preschool education. Since 1979, the one child policy has been in effect for 30 years in China. The first generation of single child are now growing into childbearing age. The one child policy in China is altering family roles and child rearing practices, raising concerns about the possible harmful effects of too much attention and pampering. Comparable to U.S. public kindergartens, these classes usually place greater emphasis upon academics and use teaching methods similar to those of the Chinese elementary classrooms. In both of those three kind of program, there is a common problem. Those children rarely work independently or in self selected group tasks. On the contrary, the point is on following teacher s guidance, instead of self invention. All the children will do the same thing at the same time. For example, in a typical art class, teacher demonstrates how to fold and twist a paper butterfly. Then she check every child doing the same step before proceed to the next step.
