King Tutankhamun s Role In Ancient Egyptian Civilization
Introduction paragraph 1
Ancient Egyptian civilisation were located along in the tomb of pharaohs and was discovered in 1922
by Howard carter, uncovering king Tutankhamun s tomb played an immense role in discovering
ancient Egyptian civilisation. The discovery of king Tutankhamun s death mask has been significant
for improving modern understanding of Egyptian civilisation to a substantial extent, this is because the
tomb of king Tutankhamun reveals how Egyptian civilisation believed in life, death and the afterlife.
All of this can be seen through the analysis of the context, purpose and significance.

In ancient Egyptian civilisation, Egyptians believed in death, life and the afterlife many Egyptians
believed in King Tutankhamun s tomb was found in 1922 by Howard cater. Tuts tomb was found in
the east valley of kings and has many symbolic features on his mask, one including spells chased in
his mask. King Tutankhamun had hair as lapis lazuli, so the king is shown at his best from the afterlife
(Dr. Elizabeth, khan academy 2018). Tutankhamun had jewels, precious artefacts and gold his tomb,
but was indeed not his. Since Tutankhamun died at the age 19 there was not enough time to make all
the new artefacts and put it in his tomb for when died. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Psychological Theories Of Crime
There is great debate over the reasons why people are driven to commit a crime. Numerous theories
have been developed to attempt to explain the motives that cause people to act out against family or
even strangers. There is particular attention given to the motivating factors to those who chose to
commit mass murders in the country because of the great media attention given to them. For example,
school shootings are covered extensively in the media and tend to be more well known compared to a
simple bank robbery, assault, etc. Thus, experts and everyday citizens tend to have an interest in the
psychological state of the shooter at the time of the crime and what caused him/her to act out in such a
way. One example of this is found in the Sandy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
nurture. For a Criminal Justice 1010 class at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Professor Elizabeth
Keller Charbonneau put together a lesson on the different theories of crime. One of the individual
level crimes in the lesson was considered Psychology: A mental illness or personality disorder causes
people to commit a crime (Keller Charbonneau, 2015). This applies to Adam Lanza, as pointed to in
the Frontline video. Without explicitly stating that Lanza was driven by his illness, it was greatly
implied. In the video special, the reporters focus on Adam s childhood and his interactions with his
mother and peers. The video states that Adam was diagnosed with a sensory integration disorder in
which he had problems with change and people touching him. This is explained in an interview with
Marvin Lafontaine in the Frontline video. Lafontaine was a friend of Nancy Lanza, and also has a son
the same age as Adam. The two were in Boy Scouts together and during one interaction, he
remembers Nancy telling him not to touch Adam (Koughan, 2013). This seemed out of the ordinary,
but it was because Adam had sensory issues, which was later diagnosed. Along with this, Adam had
issues with change, and this escalated when his family moved to Newtown, Connecticut. Adam began
school at Sandy Hook Elementary School and was described as shy and uncomfortable in big settings
(Koughan, 2013). He didn t really mingle well with the other children and Nancy worried about him,

Essay about Two Suits, Two Dresses, or One of Each
How can denying two people of the same sex the right to have a marriage be considered
constitutional? Why is our country taking away rights of people because they want to be with
someone of the same gender? Gay and lesbian couples have been denied their right to marry for some
time now. Same sex couples should be allowed to express and celebrate their commitment to a partner
the same way a heterosexual couple does, as well as obtain the same benefits. Our country is not a

This means the government cannot enact laws that prevent marriage between individuals of a certain
sexual orientation. If marriage is considered a civil liberty, then the 14th amendment should stop the
government from making laws that prohibit civil liberties based on a person s choice in a partner. . . .
Section 3 of DOMA violates the equal protection clause because it treats gay man and lesbians
differently on the basis of their sexual orientation (Hanna 30). If we continue to strike down laws like
DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act), which denied same sex couples the right to marry, we can fight
this controversy and help innocent people obtain a right that they were born with.
Some people may argue that marriage has always been defined as between one man and one woman
or that allowing gay marriage will weaken the institution of marriage. Extending to gays and lesbians
the right to marry would undermine traditional marriage, and therefore, governments have a valid
reason to maintain the traditional definition of it (Hanna 29). It is inaccurate to define marriage as
between one man and one woman because our world history is full of polygamy, concubines,
mistresses, and prostitution. Kings in the past had many women and this was considered normal, one
could say that the traditional marriage is the one that is not normal. We redefine things as the general
attitudes about them

Literary Analysis Of Mending Wall By Robert Frost
Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost
Robert Frost is describing a process in Mending Wall , which is repairing a wall that separates his
territory and his neighbor s. The wall was deteriorated during the winter, when the cold frost created
cracks and gaps in the wall. He uses a nearly infantile imagination to unravel the mystery of the
damage that appeared suddenly in spring. While they are tediously laboring to reconstruct the fence,
Frost is imploring his neighbor about the use of the wall; his apple trees can be clearly distinguished
from his neighbor s pine trees. Yet underneath this quotidian routine, Frost goes beyond the surface to
reveal its figurative meaning.
The poem renders an apparent question: Why do people build unnecessary ... Show more content on

For example, he indicates that the practice of mending the barrier is futile, when he states the
metaphor, Oh, just another kind of outdoor game...it comes to little more. Another metaphor he used is
Spring is the mischief in me. Mischief here does not refer to anything relative to evil, but to friskiness
that attempts to put a notion in his head. Yet this attempt is in unavailing, and the neighbor continues
to repair the wall, and in the simile, Like an old stone savage armed , Frost attests that his neighbor
has the stride and stubborn ignorance of a caveman. He also uses other devices such as a pun, applied
in the line, And to whom I was like to give offence. The last word of the line simply emphasizes the
importance of the subject, the fence. The most prominent figure of speech, however, is the ironic,
Good fences make good neighbors. This is completely opposite of the connotation of the poem.
Fences do not make neighbors, but strangers that are apathetic towards each other. The neighbor
seems to prefer this approach, to eliminate any risks of trespassing or offenses. Yet what the fence
really does is hinder the development of friendship. This is comparable to the barriers of bitterness,
anger, hate, and fear men put between one another that obstruct love and

Does Morley Promote Laziness
Being lazy tends to have a negative connotation, but Morley takes a different stance and challenges his
readers to uphold laziness as one of the true means to become happy. Morley is similar to a salesman,
as he promotes his product, laziness, in hopes of gaining the attention and support of others. Like
many salesmen, Morley has a catch. By concealing his satirical viewpoint, he is able to distract his
audience and continue to promote laziness undetected. Masking this satire, Morley diverts the
attention of his audience by incorporating model figures and reinterpreting conventional knowledge to
promote laziness. Morley supports his claims under a foundation of satire and exaggeration. At first
glance, Morley s whole essay may seem conceivable. Strange, but conceivable. His opening paragraph
describes how he himself is a lazy individual and using this observation, presents the rest of his essay
in the same sluggish manner. He insists that, he intended to write an essay on laziness, but was too
indolent to do so. The sort of thing we had in mind to write would have been exceedingly persuasive.
We intended to discourse a little in favour of a greater appreciation of Indolence as a benign factor in
human affairs. Morley can be seen as a victim of the very thing he is presenting to his audience. He

These model figures are theoretical figures, conceptualized by Morley to demonstrate to his audience
what a lazy individual looks like, and the benefits he gains. His most prominent model is what he
describes as the laziest man on earth, in which he states, Finally the light broke upon him. He stopped
answering letters, buying lunches for casual friends and visitors from out of town, he stopped lending
money to old college pals...He sat down in a secluded cafe with his cheek against a seidel of dark beer

Montessori Method Essay
Montessori Method is a view of how children learn and develop, which Dr. Montessori translated into
a systematic method of education based on her observations and scientific study. It is unique in that it
has withstood the test of time and transcended boundaries and boarders. It has been used effectively
with all children including children with learning differences, physically handicapped and the gifted in
different countries around the world. There are 45,000 Montessori schools worldwide. All high fidelity
Montessori programs use the same materials and teaching strategies.
I am a Montessori Guide. Beliefs About Teaching and Learning
Education in not what the teacher gives; education is a natural process spontaneously carried out by
the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences upon the
environment. (Montessori, Education for a New World, p.3)
Maria Montessori felt the teacher was crucial to the development of children. However, she saw the
teacher s role as being very different than it is in traditional education. According to Montessori, the
teacher s main goal is to light the flame of intelligence (Montessori, The Absorbent Mind, p.266) in
the student. The teacher is to be a guide, an inspiration and once the flame is lit, to disappear into the
environment. The focus in a Montessori classroom is on children learning, not on teachers teaching.
To that end, my primary role as a Montessori teacher, is that of an observer. Through daily observation
and documentation of students progress, I determine when and if a child needs further instruction
and/or support in any given subject. Observation allows me to determine when a child is ready for
new challenges and to scaffold the child from one activity and level to the next. I am observing to see
the true nature of the children, how they interact with people and the environment, what drives each
one, the children s strengths and weaknesses to determine how to nurture each child s spirit.
At the same time, I am observing the classroom environment. I am observing that the materials meet
the needs and interests of the children. Which activities and materials get most attention? Which
activities and

Childhood Cancer Clusters in California s Central Valley Case report :Sakshi Arora March 22, 2012
This case study examines childhood cancers in agricultural communities of Mc Farland and Earlimart
from 1978 to 1995. According to the local residents of these communities the main reason for cancer
is contamination through pesticide in the agricultural farms which is the major source of employment
for the residents of the community. McFarland is a small community in Kern County, with the
population of about 6200, located at the southern end of California s San Joaquin Valley. They are the
main source of cotton and Almond in the area. Census Data of 1980 revealed that 40 percent of the

some residents living have reported that no such incident has been observed in their families. Their
main occupation is agriculture in the farms where pesticide is being used. They have reported
contamination of water is also one of the reasons for the cancer. The case unfolds the number of cases
which happened with the people throughout the period. They also reported that in spite of informing
the harmful effect of the pesticides to their boss .To which no action has been taken instead their

California Department of Food and Agriculture revealed that there are more than 1,200 cases in
California alone in 1986 based on worker compensation records. Nationwide, one estimate calculated
as many as 313,000 pesticide related illnesses among farm worker each year. Dr. Marion Moses, a San

Egalitarianism Is The Belief Of Equality For All,...
Egalitarianism is the belief in equality for all, irrespective of class, gender or race. Hunter gatherer
societies are often described by anthropologists as egalitarian; however perhaps some, more so than
others. The social organizations of peoples like the Pygmies of the Central African forests and the San
(Bushmen) for example, are labelled strikingly egalitarian in contrast to Northwest Coast Indians who
display social stratification . There is also evidence suggesting that descent groups exercise corporate
control over delimited tracts of resources such as fishing stations, hunting grounds and berrying areas
(Barnard and Spencer 2011: 364). This suggests that the hunter gatherer ethos is practiced in diverse
ways, depending on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
G. Bicchieri, Ernest S. Burch, Jr., Carol R. Ember, Kirk M. Endicott, Roy Richard Grinker, Steve
Gudeman, Mitsuo Ichikawa, Tim Ingold and George W. Wenzel 1992: 27). Hence Sahlins findings can
be attributed to the cosmic economy of sharing present in many hunter gatherer societies, as they
adopt an immediate return system that demonstrates their commitment to maintaining an egalitarian
way of living. In immediate return societies every individual has a share of the social product,
regardless of how much he or she has contributed to it (Lee and Daly 1999). This indicates the
importance of a fair distribution of resources such as food that may become scarce at certain times
during the year amongst hunter gatherers. Among the Ju/ hoansi, the distribution of meat in particular
is noted as a symbolic social event, whereby the arrangement of the pieces of meat can take up to an
hour in order to ensure that each recipient is given the right proportion (Lee 1993:50). This ritual of
sharing is also evident amongst the Hadza and !Kung tribes, with Woodburn suggesting that hoarding
food when another person is hungry would be socially unacceptable (Woodburn 1982). Thus, perhaps
food sharing in such a distinct social context can be interpreted as a sort of insurance policy that
reduces the risk of starvation and hunger within the community as a whole, showing that the hunter
gather ethos values society over the individual. Despite many hunter

M. K. Gandhi s Civil Disobedience Movement
In response to the inadequacy of the Simon Report, the Labor Government, which had come to power
under Ramsay MacDonald in 1929, decided to hold a series of Round Table Conferences in London.
The first Round Table Conference convened from 12 November 1930 to 19 January 1931. Prior to the
Conference, M. K. Gandhi had initiated the Civil Disobedience Movement on behalf of the Indian
National Congress. Consequently, since many of the Congress leaders were in jail, Congress did not
participate in the first conference, but representatives from all other Indian parties and a number of
Princes did. The outcomes of the first Round Table Conference were minimal: India was to develop
into a federation, safeguards regarding defense and finance were agreed and other departments were to
be transferred. However, little was done to implement these recommendations and civil disobedience
continued in India. The British Government realized that the Indian National Congress needed to be
part of deciding the future of constitutional government in India.
Lord Irwin, the Viceroy, met with Gandhi to reach a compromise. On 5 March 1931 they agreed the ...

Two weeks before the Conference convened, the Labor government had been replaced by the
Conservatives. At the conference, Gandhi claimed to represent all people of India. This view, however,
was not shared by other delegates. In fact, the division between the many attending groups was one of
the reasons why the outcomes of the second Round Table Conference were again no substantial results
regarding India s constitutional future. Meanwhile, civil unrest had spread throughout India again, and
upon return to India Gandhi was arrested along with other Congress leaders. A separate province of
Sind was created and the interests of minorities were safeguarded by MacDonald s Communal

Stewardship Philosophy
I know the biblical doctrine of stewardship defines a man s relationship to God. It identifies God as
owner and man as manager. God makes man His co worker in administering all aspects of our life.
Starting with this concept, I am then able to accurately view and correctly value not only my
possessions but, more importantly, human life itself. In principle, stewardship defines my purpose in
this world as assigned to me by God Himself. It is my divinely given opportunity to join with God in
His worldwide and eternal redemptive movement. Stewardship is not God taking something from me;
it is His method of bestowing His richest gifts upon His people.
My heart directs human life; it is where decisions are made for my whole person. Six aspects are

Oregon County Essay
Oregon County In 1819, Oregon was claimed by Russia, Spain, Great Britain, and the United States.
Later, Spain and Russia gave up their claims, which left Britain and the U.S. to agree to a joint
occupation of Oregon. Oregon was discovered during the Lewis and Clark expedition, but the route
that they took to Oregon was too dangerous. In 1824, Jedediah Smith found a better way called the
South Pass to get to Oregon. As a result, missionaries who made converts along the way traveled to
Oregon. In 1843, the missionary s reports had inspired about 1000 settlers to head to Oregon. During

the U.S. annexed Texas, tension escalated on both sides, since Texas and Mexico already couldn t
agree on a border. In April of 1846, Mexican soldiers fired on American troops, which led to Congress
declaring war on Mexico. A few months later, General Stephen Kearny and his troops marched west,
and occupied New Mexico without firing a single shot. Meanwhile, John C. Frémont and a group of
Americans jailed the Mexican commander of Northern California, General Mariano Guadalupe

Mexican city of Monterrey. Then, they were met by General Santa Anna and his 20000 Mexican
troops. The two sides fought for two days near a ranch called Buena Vista. Finally, the U.S. captured
northern Mexico when Santa Anna and his troops retreated south. A few months later, General
Winfield Scott, nicknamed Old Fuss and Feathers , led his troops into Veracruz in southern Mexico. At

Tilak was charged with incitement to murder and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment. When he

The As A Metaphor For The State Of A Nation Essay
In what ways does the figure of the child serve as a metaphor for the state of a nation?
In China s quest for modernity, the figure of the child transcended its biological definition. It took on a
symbolic metaphorical form of rejuvenation used to revitalize the state of a nation facing extinction.
After the Opium Wars, Chinese intellectuals had started to become aware of China s weakness on the
world stage. By 1900, defeat in the Sino Japanese War, the failure of the Boxer Rebellion and the
humiliating treaties that followed, made it clear to all. The old empire was in decline with the
inadequacies of tradition exposed. A critique of the Confucian Doctrine, had begun. China needed to
rejuvenate, rewriting the weaknesses of the old empire into a youthful nation. The questioning of
nationhood coincided with a rising class of literati learning outside of China. Those such as Liang
Qichao, believed that the huge gap between China and the West was not because of race but different
educational systems within which, the education of children was vital. Ideas of Social Darwinism and
the survival of the nation spread, furthering the symbolism of the child through the prism of the
nation. Reformers in this class fervently critiqued the Civil Service Examination system in relation to
foreign aggression. Lin Shu denotes, thousands of literati were trained to be familiar with Confucian
classics and historical books, but they had no ability to deal with invaders. In this way,

Nineteenth-Century Oil Industry
In the nineteenth century, there was an emergence and massive upbringing of new developments, a
rise of business enterprise, and future successful entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs such as John D.
Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and J. Pierpont Morgan all became three of the major leading icons for
business and economic growth. They helped establish global markets and vast resources that became
very dominant during that time period. These resources included oil, steel, and the increase of
investment firms that changed the economy, and helped promote agricultural and industrial power
after the Civil War. The Standard Oil Company was one of the first leading developments that
dominated the oil industry during the 1800s. John D. Rockefeller had organized

Essay about Gender Roles in Ancient Greek Society
Gender Roles in Ancient Greek Society Throughout history, the roles of women and men have always
differed to some degree. In ancient Greece, the traditional roles were clear cut and defined. Women
stayed home to care for children and do housework while men left to work. This system of society was
not too far off the hunter gatherer concept where women cared for the house and the men hunted.
Intriguingly enough, despite the customary submissive role, women had a more multifaceted role and
image in society as juxtaposed with the rather simple role men played. Morals for the two were also
different. Men obviously had the upper hand with women being the traditional passive. For an
example, it was quite acceptable for a man to commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As shown, women were considered naturally submissive as in most other old cultures. This is
somewhat understandable as women were the ones who bore children and men provided for the family
unit. As time progressed, this stereotype was over emphasized into what is portrayed in these plays
and poems. Despite this submissive image, Greek women were not considered naïve, but a pleasurable
if a bit foolish kind of a creature. In Aristophane?s play, Lysistrata, this concept is amply portrayed.
Most of the women are portrayed, as impulsive individuals while men are carnal gluttons.
Notwithstanding this facet of their image women could also be wily as Medea and Lysistrata: ?What is
more, you were born a woman, And women, though most helpless in doing good deeds, Are of every
evil the cleverest of contrives? The deceitful female is epitomized by the character of Aphrodite in
Euripidies?s Hippolytus. Due to having her altar neglected (as in the case of Psyche) she plotted to
bring ruin to Hippolytus and all those who loved him. At the end of the play, Artemis plots revenge
against Aphrodite (also called Cypris) saying: ?Hush, that is enough! You shall not be unavenged,
Cypris shall find the angry shafts she hurls Against you for you?re your piety and innocence Shall cost
her dear. I?ll wait until she loves a mortal next time, And with this hand?with these unerring arrows

The Emancipation Proclamation Research Paper
The emancipation proclamation was a proclamation published by Abraham Lincoln on January of
1863. United States was in the middle of a civil war between The Union and The Confederacy.
Abraham Lincoln was more concerned about preserving the union of United States than the abolition
of the slaves. So he decided to publish The Proclamation like a military strategy. The proclamation
stated that all the people who were slaves becomes free immediately. Because it was a proclamation of
the president Abraham Lincoln, it was only for the states that were part of The Confederacy and those
who were in rebellion against United States. Lincoln s goal was starting to weaken The Conference
and from one moment to another more than 3 million of slave that were

Enforcing Stricter Gun Control And Gun Violence In The...
Gun violence in America has clearly made its presence in the past decade. Mass shooting such as
Sandy Hook Elementary, Las Vegas, and Orlando have shaken the United States and left Americans in
despair and disgust. The ongoing debate over gun control in the States has always been a topic of
discussion, but with these tragedies occurring so often, obviously something needs to be done.
Although some may believe that enforcing stricter gun laws will substantially prevent violence in the
United States, it is paramount that all eligible Americans have access to a handgun in order to protect
themselves and others as well as to prevent crime from ever beginning. Some argue that enforcing
stricter gun laws will decrease gun violence which could be possible. In a study comparing homicide
rates with gun availability in several states, it was estimated that if ten percent of households no longer
had guns then homicides would drop by three percent (Stray 5). Not only would this decrease
homicide rates and prevent gun related crimes from ever happening, it would also lower suicide rates.
Particularly in children between the ages of five and fourteen, gun suicide rates are eight times higher
in the United States than in any other first world country (Feldscher 2). This is primarily due to guns
being readily available inside the living space. Many gun owners try to prevent their children from
getting access to their firearms by locking them in safes but this raises another issue. If the

Analysis Of The Fire Next Time By James Baldwin
In the United States, all citizens are entitled to a freedom of choice, under which they may choose
their beliefs and ideals. Unfortunately, with this freedom , people lose their sense of truth and reality,
and must rely upon the ideals of times past and present to ground themselves in this world. The Fire
Next Time, written by James Baldwin, examines this issue in Down At The
Cross , an account of the author s experience with founding his reality on religion and with his
continuing struggles with race and society. In this religious record, Baldwin discusses how he finds a
home in religion and how he spends the majority of his life in his religious career, both of which offer
a sense of safety for his lost soul. Consequently, he then describes his mistake for trusting religion to
act as his foundation as he then learns the stupefying truth of his God s negligence, how his God takes
no action to save Baldwin s people from the depths of society.
Therefore, in order to prevent the reader from resorting to the same alternative, Baldwin intends to
persuade the reader to not base their reality upon the beliefs of others or of a denomination, but solely
upon the facts of life which stand before them. He hopes to discourage the reader by informing of the
horror and the harrowing pain he experiences with having his world shaken to the foundation.
Baldwin achieves this by accentuating the shock of his realization about religion and his God,
showing the reader how this affects him as a means of persuasion.
Perrott !2
In order for Baldwin to convince the reader (to not base their reality in the beliefs of others) (is this
necessary to keep?), he elaborates upon the lurid realizations of his God and of his faith, which
changes his and the reader s perception of religion for the remainder of the book.
Since these feelings are particularly strong for Baldwin, he mirrors his experience with strong
emotional language to bring life into the story and accentuate the importance of the event, which
grasps the reader s attention as well as their interest. Baldwin exemplifies this strategy when he
illustrates the severity of his emotions at the realization of his God s negligence. Baldwin describes his
agony:
...and naturally,

Baroque Art And Art
The Rococo era was an imaginatively experimental and colorful period of time in France in which
highly ornamented fashion and décor were at the forefront of fashion. The Rococo movement was
already vaguely invented during the Late Baroque era in Italy, but after gaining some headway, it was
then pushed by King Louis XV of France who was very interested in showcasing luxury, wealth, and
good taste of that time through art and fashion. By the mid 1700 s, the majority of France was sick of
the dull, looming, and dark aesthetic of the Baroque era. Once the Rococo era came about, home décor
and fashion consisted of much more brightly decorated, overwhelming colors and opulent designs and
textures. The concept of the Rococo was that more is better in terms of garments and fabrics, furniture,
and other leisurely activities and decor. Just as the Siamese delegation had a lasting effect on the court
of Louis XIV, so did the visit of an ambassadorial retinue led by Mehmed Efendi in 1720 1721,
stamping the court with all kinds of turquerie, enmeshing itself more freely with the lachinage of the
former century (remembering also that chinoiserie was very much alive and a central element to the
germination of the rococo), (Fashion and Orientalism, page 63). Another factor that played into the
Rococo was the fact that women had a bit more authority in the sense that they were allowed to hold
positions of power. This is why Madame de Pompadour was incredibly well known as she

School Uniform Controversy
There has always been a big controversy on whether schools should require students to wear uniforms
issued by the school. Some believe that students should have the freedom to wear whatever they
would like to express themselves. Others believe that students should wear uniforms to reduce
bullying and provide a look of success. Schools should be required to have students wear uniforms.
One reason that schools should require students to wear school uniforms is because it would make
schools safer. The schools superintendent, Paula E. Howard, said the district turned to uniforms in
response to an after school fight last year that involved weapons concealed in loose clothing (Article 2

The Time Of Early Human Civilization
Punishment can be dated back to the time of early human civilization. It took a while for human
civilization to begin imposing certain laws and regulations that would subsequent an act of crime.
During the early time period of 2000 B.C. to 1800 A.D. (2010), ancient Babylonian and Sumerian
codes began the model of creating a practice where criminals would be punished for their wrong
doings. One of the earliest philosophies of this ancient time was the term Lex talionis or an eye for an
eye. This practice is based on the criminal punishment idea of retribution, which means that a criminal
deserves to be punished based on the crime committed. As time progressed, new ways of thinking
emerged and eventually crime had to be the responsibility of the government because they believed
that a crime committed against one citizen was considered to be committed against the whole society.
During the enlightenment, great philosophers such as Cesare Beccaria, Jeremy Bentham, and John
Howard changed the perspective on human life. Prior the enlightenment, people were not rational and
they believed that behavior was not a function of their choice. That s why they highly supported
punishment for retribution. However, during post enlightenment the main purpose of punishment
became to deter or stop crime. In hopes of getting criminals of the street, new ways of punishing
evolved but mainly it gave development to incarceration. The number of individuals living in
correctional facilities across

The Relationship Between Birth Order and Intelligence Essays
Debates on the relationship between birth order and intelligence have been remaining controversial.
Birth order is considered as a person s ranking by age among his or her siblings. There have been
numerous researchers studying about this subject to find whether firstborns generally have a higher IQ
scores than their siblings. Some scientists conclude that birth order strongly influents intelligence;
however, others oppose to this, claiming that birth order has no effect on intelligence. In this paper,
my study deals with the birth order effects on intelligence.
Investigation about the birth order effects first started in the late nineteenth century. Several
researchers have claimed that the relation between birth order and intelligence ... Show more content

Some critics argue that three points do not seem like much; however, the impact can be enormous. Just
2.3 IQ points can correlate to a 15 point difference in SAT scores, which makes an even bigger
difference when you re an Ivy League applicant with a 690 verbal score going head to head against
someone with a 705. (Kluger). Some people suggest that the difference of IQ scores varies by family
and does not show up in all family. The scientists then looked at I.Q. scores in 63,951 pairs of
brothers, and found the same results. (Carey). To make sure the difference is not due to biological
aspects, the researchers examined the scores of young men who became the eldest in the household
after an older sibling had died. Their scores came out the same, on average, as those of biological
firstborns. (Carey).
Although there are a number of scientists supporting for the idea of being the firstborns is beneficial
and advantageous, recent studies assert that the effects of birth order no longer are significant. The
children s intelligence depends on many factors such as family size, child spacing, prenatal factors,
gestational factors, not only birth order

The West African Regional War Essay
The West Africa Regional War
For observers of the West Africa regional war, the recent calm in the war torn Mano River Union
(MRU) states Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea has given rise to optimism. Guarded, as this optimism
might be, the decrease in violence in West Africa during the second half of 2001 is an important
development given the scope and intensity of fighting that gripped these states earlier in the year.
While observers agree that the current absence of widespread violent conflict in the MRU is a much
welcomed development, it must not mask the profound cleavages within these societies, the tenuous
nature of the UN imposed peace in Sierra Leone, and the continued serious threat of renewed warfare
in the region. A brief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The end of the 1990s housed over 500,000 refugees housed in hundreds of camps and settlements in
Guinea, one of the largest refugee populations in the world (U.S. Commission for Refugees, Guinea:
Country Report 1999, www.refugees.org/world/countryrpt/africa/1999/guinea.htm). While the
destabilizing effects on Guinean society of large numbers of Liberian and Sierra Leonean refugees
was profound throughout the 1990s, sustained cross border conflict did not break out between Guinea
and her neighbors until 2000. Cross border attacks into Guinea by Sierra Leone s Revolutionary
United Front (RUF) and various Liberian based rebel groups precipitated a harsh military response
from the Guinean military, which led to thousands of militia and civilian casualties.
Of course, fighting in West Africa during the 1990s was not confined to the MRU states. Serious
bloodshed occurred in Guinea Bissau (1999), the southern Casamance region of Senegal (ongoing),
and Nigeria (ongoing) and conflict threatens to engulf c?te d Ivoire. Sometimes referred to as the arc
of conflict in West Africa, these wars escape simple classification. While the war that started in 1989
in Liberia has become regionalized in the rest of the MRU, the other areas of instability in West Africa
are based on intra state phenomena. Nevertheless, the broader and deeper that instability grows in
West Africa, the greater the risk that conflicts will merge and spread, further

  • 2. King Tutankhamun s Role In Ancient Egyptian Civilization Introduction paragraph 1 Ancient Egyptian civilisation were located along in the tomb of pharaohs and was discovered in 1922 by Howard carter, uncovering king Tutankhamun s tomb played an immense role in discovering ancient Egyptian civilisation. The discovery of king Tutankhamun s death mask has been significant for improving modern understanding of Egyptian civilisation to a substantial extent, this is because the tomb of king Tutankhamun reveals how Egyptian civilisation believed in life, death and the afterlife. All of this can be seen through the analysis of the context, purpose and significance. Body paragraph 1 (what is the context) Remember PEEL In ancient Egyptian civilisation, Egyptians believed in death, life and the afterlife many Egyptians believed in King Tutankhamun s tomb was found in 1922 by Howard cater. Tuts tomb was found in the east valley of kings and has many symbolic features on his mask, one including spells chased in his mask. King Tutankhamun had hair as lapis lazuli, so the king is shown at his best from the afterlife (Dr. Elizabeth, khan academy 2018). Tutankhamun had jewels, precious artefacts and gold his tomb, but was indeed not his. Since Tutankhamun died at the age 19 there was not enough time to make all the new artefacts and put it in his tomb for when died. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Psychological Theories Of Crime There is great debate over the reasons why people are driven to commit a crime. Numerous theories have been developed to attempt to explain the motives that cause people to act out against family or even strangers. There is particular attention given to the motivating factors to those who chose to commit mass murders in the country because of the great media attention given to them. For example, school shootings are covered extensively in the media and tend to be more well known compared to a simple bank robbery, assault, etc. Thus, experts and everyday citizens tend to have an interest in the psychological state of the shooter at the time of the crime and what caused him/her to act out in such a way. One example of this is found in the Sandy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... nurture. For a Criminal Justice 1010 class at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Professor Elizabeth Keller Charbonneau put together a lesson on the different theories of crime. One of the individual level crimes in the lesson was considered Psychology: A mental illness or personality disorder causes people to commit a crime (Keller Charbonneau, 2015). This applies to Adam Lanza, as pointed to in the Frontline video. Without explicitly stating that Lanza was driven by his illness, it was greatly implied. In the video special, the reporters focus on Adam s childhood and his interactions with his mother and peers. The video states that Adam was diagnosed with a sensory integration disorder in which he had problems with change and people touching him. This is explained in an interview with Marvin Lafontaine in the Frontline video. Lafontaine was a friend of Nancy Lanza, and also has a son the same age as Adam. The two were in Boy Scouts together and during one interaction, he remembers Nancy telling him not to touch Adam (Koughan, 2013). This seemed out of the ordinary, but it was because Adam had sensory issues, which was later diagnosed. Along with this, Adam had issues with change, and this escalated when his family moved to Newtown, Connecticut. Adam began school at Sandy Hook Elementary School and was described as shy and uncomfortable in big settings (Koughan, 2013). He didn t really mingle well with the other children and Nancy worried about him, but didn t take much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay about Two Suits, Two Dresses, or One of Each How can denying two people of the same sex the right to have a marriage be considered constitutional? Why is our country taking away rights of people because they want to be with someone of the same gender? Gay and lesbian couples have been denied their right to marry for some time now. Same sex couples should be allowed to express and celebrate their commitment to a partner the same way a heterosexual couple does, as well as obtain the same benefits. Our country is not a Theocracy, we have separation of church and state, therefore the government cannot press biblical or church will on citizens. The church has defined marriage as between a man and a woman and this is fine as long as the government keeps a non religious standpoint. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means the government cannot enact laws that prevent marriage between individuals of a certain sexual orientation. If marriage is considered a civil liberty, then the 14th amendment should stop the government from making laws that prohibit civil liberties based on a person s choice in a partner. . . . Section 3 of DOMA violates the equal protection clause because it treats gay man and lesbians differently on the basis of their sexual orientation (Hanna 30). If we continue to strike down laws like DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act), which denied same sex couples the right to marry, we can fight this controversy and help innocent people obtain a right that they were born with. Some people may argue that marriage has always been defined as between one man and one woman or that allowing gay marriage will weaken the institution of marriage. Extending to gays and lesbians the right to marry would undermine traditional marriage, and therefore, governments have a valid reason to maintain the traditional definition of it (Hanna 29). It is inaccurate to define marriage as between one man and one woman because our world history is full of polygamy, concubines, mistresses, and prostitution. Kings in the past had many women and this was considered normal, one could say that the traditional marriage is the one that is not normal. We redefine things as the general attitudes about them ... • 5. Literary Analysis Of Mending Wall By Robert Frost Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost Robert Frost is describing a process in Mending Wall , which is repairing a wall that separates his territory and his neighbor s. The wall was deteriorated during the winter, when the cold frost created cracks and gaps in the wall. He uses a nearly infantile imagination to unravel the mystery of the damage that appeared suddenly in spring. While they are tediously laboring to reconstruct the fence, Frost is imploring his neighbor about the use of the wall; his apple trees can be clearly distinguished from his neighbor s pine trees. Yet underneath this quotidian routine, Frost goes beyond the surface to reveal its figurative meaning. The poem renders an apparent question: Why do people build unnecessary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, he indicates that the practice of mending the barrier is futile, when he states the metaphor, Oh, just another kind of outdoor game...it comes to little more. Another metaphor he used is Spring is the mischief in me. Mischief here does not refer to anything relative to evil, but to friskiness that attempts to put a notion in his head. Yet this attempt is in unavailing, and the neighbor continues to repair the wall, and in the simile, Like an old stone savage armed , Frost attests that his neighbor has the stride and stubborn ignorance of a caveman. He also uses other devices such as a pun, applied in the line, And to whom I was like to give offence. The last word of the line simply emphasizes the importance of the subject, the fence. The most prominent figure of speech, however, is the ironic, Good fences make good neighbors. This is completely opposite of the connotation of the poem. Fences do not make neighbors, but strangers that are apathetic towards each other. The neighbor seems to prefer this approach, to eliminate any risks of trespassing or offenses. Yet what the fence really does is hinder the development of friendship. This is comparable to the barriers of bitterness, anger, hate, and fear men put between one another that obstruct love and ... • 6. Does Morley Promote Laziness Being lazy tends to have a negative connotation, but Morley takes a different stance and challenges his readers to uphold laziness as one of the true means to become happy. Morley is similar to a salesman, as he promotes his product, laziness, in hopes of gaining the attention and support of others. Like many salesmen, Morley has a catch. By concealing his satirical viewpoint, he is able to distract his audience and continue to promote laziness undetected. Masking this satire, Morley diverts the attention of his audience by incorporating model figures and reinterpreting conventional knowledge to promote laziness. Morley supports his claims under a foundation of satire and exaggeration. At first glance, Morley s whole essay may seem conceivable. Strange, but conceivable. His opening paragraph describes how he himself is a lazy individual and using this observation, presents the rest of his essay in the same sluggish manner. He insists that, he intended to write an essay on laziness, but was too indolent to do so. The sort of thing we had in mind to write would have been exceedingly persuasive. We intended to discourse a little in favour of a greater appreciation of Indolence as a benign factor in human affairs. • 7. Montessori Method Essay Montessori Method is a view of how children learn and develop, which Dr. Montessori translated into a systematic method of education based on her observations and scientific study. It is unique in that it has withstood the test of time and transcended boundaries and boarders. It has been used effectively with all children including children with learning differences, physically handicapped and the gifted in different countries around the world. There are 45,000 Montessori schools worldwide. All high fidelity Montessori programs use the same materials and teaching strategies. I am a Montessori Guide. Beliefs About Teaching and Learning Education in not what the teacher gives; education is a natural process spontaneously carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences upon the environment. (Montessori, Education for a New World, p.3) Maria Montessori felt the teacher was crucial to the development of children. However, she saw the teacher s role as being very different than it is in traditional education. According to Montessori, the teacher s main goal is to light the flame of intelligence (Montessori, The Absorbent Mind, p.266) in the student. The teacher is to be a guide, an inspiration and once the flame is lit, to disappear into the environment. The focus in a Montessori classroom is on children learning, not on teachers teaching. To that end, my primary role as a Montessori teacher, is that of an observer. Through daily observation and documentation of students progress, I determine when and if a child needs further instruction and/or support in any given subject. Observation allows me to determine when a child is ready for new challenges and to scaffold the child from one activity and level to the next. I am observing to see the true nature of the children, how they interact with people and the environment, what drives each one, the children s strengths and weaknesses to determine how to nurture each child s spirit. At the same time, I am observing the classroom environment. I am observing that the materials meet the needs and interests of the children. Which activities and materials get most attention? • 9. Egalitarianism Is The Belief Of Equality For All,... Egalitarianism is the belief in equality for all, irrespective of class, gender or race. Hunter gatherer societies are often described by anthropologists as egalitarian; however perhaps some, more so than others. The social organizations of peoples like the Pygmies of the Central African forests and the San (Bushmen) for example, are labelled strikingly egalitarian in contrast to Northwest Coast Indians who display social stratification . There is also evidence suggesting that descent groups exercise corporate control over delimited tracts of resources such as fishing stations, hunting grounds and berrying areas (Barnard and Spencer 2011: 364). This suggests that the hunter gatherer ethos is practiced in diverse ways, depending on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... G. Bicchieri, Ernest S. Burch, Jr., Carol R. Ember, Kirk M. Endicott, Roy Richard Grinker, Steve Gudeman, Mitsuo Ichikawa, Tim Ingold and George W. Wenzel 1992: 27). Hence Sahlins findings can be attributed to the cosmic economy of sharing present in many hunter gatherer societies, as they adopt an immediate return system that demonstrates their commitment to maintaining an egalitarian way of living. In immediate return societies every individual has a share of the social product, regardless of how much he or she has contributed to it (Lee and Daly 1999). This indicates the importance of a fair distribution of resources such as food that may become scarce at certain times during the year amongst hunter gatherers. Among the Ju/ hoansi, the distribution of meat in particular is noted as a symbolic social event, whereby the arrangement of the pieces of meat can take up to an hour in order to ensure that each recipient is given the right proportion (Lee 1993:50). This ritual of sharing is also evident amongst the Hadza and !Kung tribes, with Woodburn suggesting that hoarding food when another person is hungry would be socially unacceptable (Woodburn 1982). Thus, perhaps food sharing in such a distinct social context can be interpreted as a sort of insurance policy that reduces the risk of starvation and hunger within the community as a whole, showing that the hunter gather ethos values society over the individual. Despite many hunter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. M. K. Gandhi s Civil Disobedience Movement In response to the inadequacy of the Simon Report, the Labor Government, which had come to power under Ramsay MacDonald in 1929, decided to hold a series of Round Table Conferences in London. The first Round Table Conference convened from 12 November 1930 to 19 January 1931. Prior to the Conference, M. K. Gandhi had initiated the Civil Disobedience Movement on behalf of the Indian National Congress. Consequently, since many of the Congress leaders were in jail, Congress did not participate in the first conference, but representatives from all other Indian parties and a number of Princes did. The outcomes of the first Round Table Conference were minimal: India was to develop into a federation, safeguards regarding defense and finance were agreed and other departments were to be transferred. However, little was done to implement these recommendations and civil disobedience continued in India. The British Government realized that the Indian National Congress needed to be part of deciding the future of constitutional government in India. God makes man His co worker in administering all aspects of our life. Starting with this concept, I am then able to accurately view and correctly value not only my possessions but, more importantly, human life itself. In principle, stewardship defines my purpose in this world as assigned to me by God Himself. It is my divinely given opportunity to join with God in His worldwide and eternal redemptive movement. Later, Spain and Russia gave up their claims, which left Britain and the U.S. to agree to a joint occupation of Oregon. Oregon was discovered during the Lewis and Clark expedition, but the route that they took to Oregon was too dangerous. • 21. The As A Metaphor For The State Of A Nation Essay In what ways does the figure of the child serve as a metaphor for the state of a nation? In China s quest for modernity, the figure of the child transcended its biological definition. It took on a symbolic metaphorical form of rejuvenation used to revitalize the state of a nation facing extinction. After the Opium Wars, Chinese intellectuals had started to become aware of China s weakness on the world stage. By 1900, defeat in the Sino Japanese War, the failure of the Boxer Rebellion and the humiliating treaties that followed, made it clear to all. The old empire was in decline with the inadequacies of tradition exposed. A critique of the Confucian Doctrine, had begun. China needed to rejuvenate, rewriting the weaknesses of the old empire into a youthful nation. The questioning of nationhood coincided with a rising class of literati learning outside of China. Those such as Liang Qichao, believed that the huge gap between China and the West was not because of race but different educational systems within which, the education of children was vital. Ideas of Social Darwinism and the survival of the nation spread, furthering the symbolism of the child through the prism of the nation. Reformers in this class fervently critiqued the Civil Service Examination system in relation to foreign aggression. • 23. Essay about Gender Roles in Ancient Greek Society Gender Roles in Ancient Greek Society Throughout history, the roles of women and men have always differed to some degree. In ancient Greece, the traditional roles were clear cut and defined. Women stayed home to care for children and do housework while men left to work. This system of society was not too far off the hunter gatherer concept where women cared for the house and the men hunted. Intriguingly enough, despite the customary submissive role, women had a more multifaceted role and image in society as juxtaposed with the rather simple role men played. Morals for the two were also different. Men obviously had the upper hand with women being the traditional passive. For an example, it was quite acceptable for a man to commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As shown, women were considered naturally submissive as in most other old cultures. This is somewhat understandable as women were the ones who bore children and men provided for the family unit. As time progressed, this stereotype was over emphasized into what is portrayed in these plays and poems. Despite this submissive image, Greek women were not considered naïve, but a pleasurable if a bit foolish kind of a creature. In Aristophane?s play, Lysistrata, this concept is amply portrayed. Most of the women are portrayed, as impulsive individuals while men are carnal gluttons. Notwithstanding this facet of their image women could also be wily as Medea and Lysistrata: ?What is more, you were born a woman, And women, though most helpless in doing good deeds, Are of every evil the cleverest of contrives? • 25. Enforcing Stricter Gun Control And Gun Violence In The... Gun violence in America has clearly made its presence in the past decade. Mass shooting such as Sandy Hook Elementary, Las Vegas, and Orlando have shaken the United States and left Americans in despair and disgust. The ongoing debate over gun control in the States has always been a topic of discussion, but with these tragedies occurring so often, obviously something needs to be done. Although some may believe that enforcing stricter gun laws will substantially prevent violence in the United States, it is paramount that all eligible Americans have access to a handgun in order to protect themselves and others as well as to prevent crime from ever beginning. Some argue that enforcing stricter gun laws will decrease gun violence which could be possible. In a study comparing homicide rates with gun availability in several states, it was estimated that if ten percent of households no longer had guns then homicides would drop by three percent (Stray 5). Not only would this decrease homicide rates and prevent gun related crimes from ever happening, it would also lower suicide rates. Particularly in children between the ages of five and fourteen, gun suicide rates are eight times higher in the United States than in any other first world country (Feldscher 2). This is primarily due to guns being readily available inside the living space. Many gun owners try to prevent their children from getting access to their firearms by locking them in safes but this raises another issue. If the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Analysis Of The Fire Next Time By James Baldwin In the United States, all citizens are entitled to a freedom of choice, under which they may choose their beliefs and ideals. Unfortunately, with this freedom , people lose their sense of truth and reality, and must rely upon the ideals of times past and present to ground themselves in this world. The Fire Next Time, written by James Baldwin, examines this issue in Down At The Cross , an account of the author s experience with founding his reality on religion and with his continuing struggles with race and society. In this religious record, Baldwin discusses how he finds a home in religion and how he spends the majority of his life in his religious career, both of which offer a sense of safety for his lost soul. Consequently, he then describes his mistake for trusting religion to act as his foundation as he then learns the stupefying truth of his God s negligence, how his God takes no action to save Baldwin s people from the depths of society. Therefore, in order to prevent the reader from resorting to the same alternative, Baldwin intends to persuade the reader to not base their reality upon the beliefs of others or of a denomination, but solely upon the facts of life which stand before them. He hopes to discourage the reader by informing of the horror and the harrowing pain he experiences with having his world shaken to the foundation. Baldwin achieves this by accentuating the shock of his realization about religion and his God, showing the reader how this affects him as a means of persuasion. Perrott !2 In order for Baldwin to convince the reader (to not base their reality in the beliefs of others) (is this necessary to keep?), he elaborates upon the lurid realizations of his God and of his faith, which changes his and the reader s perception of religion for the remainder of the book. Since these feelings are particularly strong for Baldwin, he mirrors his experience with strong emotional language to bring life into the story and accentuate the importance of the event, which grasps the reader s attention as well as their interest. Baldwin exemplifies this strategy when he illustrates the severity of his emotions at the realization of his God s negligence. Baldwin describes his agony: ...and naturally, ... • 27. Baroque Art And Art The Rococo era was an imaginatively experimental and colorful period of time in France in which highly ornamented fashion and décor were at the forefront of fashion. The Rococo movement was already vaguely invented during the Late Baroque era in Italy, but after gaining some headway, it was then pushed by King Louis XV of France who was very interested in showcasing luxury, wealth, and good taste of that time through art and fashion. By the mid 1700 s, the majority of France was sick of the dull, looming, and dark aesthetic of the Baroque era. Once the Rococo era came about, home décor and fashion consisted of much more brightly decorated, overwhelming colors and opulent designs and textures. The concept of the Rococo was that more is better in terms of garments and fabrics, furniture, and other leisurely activities and decor. Just as the Siamese delegation had a lasting effect on the court of Louis XIV, so did the visit of an ambassadorial retinue led by Mehmed Efendi in 1720 1721, stamping the court with all kinds of turquerie, enmeshing itself more freely with the lachinage of the former century (remembering also that chinoiserie was very much alive and a central element to the germination of the rococo), (Fashion and Orientalism, page 63). It took a while for human civilization to begin imposing certain laws and regulations that would subsequent an act of crime. During the early time period of 2000 B.C. to 1800 A.D. (2010), ancient Babylonian and Sumerian codes began the model of creating a practice where criminals would be punished for their wrong doings. One of the earliest philosophies of this ancient time was the term Lex talionis or an eye for an eye. This practice is based on the criminal punishment idea of retribution, which means that a criminal deserves to be punished based on the crime committed. As time progressed, new ways of thinking emerged and eventually crime had to be the responsibility of the government because they believed that a crime committed against one citizen was considered to be committed against the whole society. During the enlightenment, great philosophers such as Cesare Beccaria, Jeremy Bentham, and John Howard changed the perspective on human life. Prior the enlightenment, people were not rational and they believed that behavior was not a function of their choice. That s why they highly supported punishment for retribution.
