What Does Yada Mean
The biblical concept comes from the use of the word Yada , which means to know. I personally really enjoy that word or
better yet, the loftiness in the way the hebrews used words. I said to myself sometime today before I viewed the lecture that
the term love has become almost dead in my vocabulary. Our culture has abused it.
Anyway, Yada means to know, but in their culture, you don t truly know someone unless you have a a very personal and
intimate relationship. A close, warm, passionate intimacy was was a must or you didn t know someone. Relating this
concept, our knowing God, to divine revelation.
Through God s love profoundly expressed through Jesus s coming, living, and dying for us on the cross, we see the han
God has for us.

Case Study Of BIMS
Introduction The company (BIMS) Ballard Integrated Managed Services, Inc. is a company that does housekeeping and
food service for many companies. The company has come up with some issues in the last four months, which was an
increase in turnover. The company has an average turnover rate of 50 to 60%. With now a 64% rate of turnover BIMS
knows there is a problem. Management is not sure as to why the turnover rate has risen so much. They have failed to find
the origin of the problem. Another problem is that the morale in the company is low, and the sick leave is increasing.
Management is determined to figure out what is causing the problem to find a solution. An approach that the company will
take is to give all 452 employees a survey.
Data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The survey was created to help employees in BIMS to help management find what is causing the turn over by giving their
opinion with the company. There are ten questions in the survey, the first one asks employees to express how they feel with
their employment. Communication is also pointed out in the survey, to see how communication is between employee and
management. These questions have to be answered by circling a number from one to five. One for very negative and five
for very positive. That s is for questions one to ten. There are also four extra questions that need to be answered different,
there is one that the employee has to state what sex they are either male or female, also about how long they have worked
for the company, so these questions can not be answered in a one to five format. As well as to in what area they work in.
taking a look at the answers one can connect points and see that there was a small communication between employee and
manager. Also another point is that there are many hours assigned to workers and they are not satisfied with the pay.
Levels of measurement BIMS used nominal, ordinal, and interval levels of analysis in the survey. In the Nominal level
there was classification done. Then followed the ordinal level, which took care of classifying and ordering in the survey.
Then followed the interval level which classifying, ordering and distance. Interval was applied in the question which

Detection And Treatment Of Malocclusions And Other Dental...
Abstract
Detection and treatment of malocclusions and other dental deformities are a considerable field of work in the plan of
orthodontic treatment. Severe malformations of the midface such as maxillary or mandibular deformity can be treated by
the distraction and reformation of skull bones. During an operation, the appropriate bony part of the mid face is separated
from the rest of the skull (osteotomy), slowly moved into the ideal position by way of a distraction device. In the current
clinical practice, planning for orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery was based on Computed Tomography (CT)
data sets. CT images are inefficient for helping the orthodontists and surgeons in treatment and surgical planning. A tool is
needed to help the physicians and surgeons in the treatment planning in order to anticipate the results and give the accurate
decision, in this paper there are preliminary descriptive studies on DICOM images of the skull to help the orthodontists by
providing the following algorithms: Segmentation of the lower jaw (mandible), Segmentation of the upper jaw (maxilla)
from CT data, Segmentation of upper teeth, each tooth and computation of mandible volume.
Keywords: CT scans, threshold, K mean, Region growing, DICOM.
Introduction
The need for clear images of cranial morphology has an important role in the progress of treatment and planning for
craniofacial surgery [1]. Improvements in three dimensional (3D) imaging [2] allowed shaping analysis and

Red Emma Song Review Essay
The song Red Emma uses a trumpet, guitar, drums, tambourine, and it sounds like a maraca is used occasionally. The
trumpet opens with a melody and then plays a similar melody at the end of the song. There are solo improvisations from
the trumpet, guitar, and drums. The drummer and guitarist play improvised melodies underneath the trumpeter for most of
the song, except when they take their solos. During the solo improvisations, the instruments that are not soloing are playing
melodies underneath the improvisation. Technically, there is no rhythm section because the drums and guitar play
improvised melodies throughout the song. The drummer does keep a rhythm and follows a structure that is established by
the trumpeter. The trumpet adds tone color by playing across the range from low to high and adjusting pitch. The guitar
changes the tone by playing different chords that have a low and high pitch. The drummer adds colorations by using
cymbals and playing different drums to alter pitch. The song uses an A B C D form that is not consistent throughout the
song. This song is very different from anything that I have ever listened to. This upbeat and fast tempo song has an excited

Both songs use different instrumentation, except for the drums. Both songs play their instruments in a high register and

Miami draws from African, South America, Cuban, and Caribbean influences. The rhythms of both songs are different, but
they are what drive both of these songs and establish their cultural sound. The rhythm from the drums, percussion, and bass
and the melodies from the saxophone and piano are what give the song Miami its unique Afro Cuban

Jonas Role In The Giver
The primary character, Jonas, in Lois Lowry s The Giver experiences a point in which he sees his ability to go past. Jonas
starts to see his Community in an unexpected way, with a mindfulness or care that a great many people in the Community
have needed. Care, actually, is one of focal topics in The Giver. In spite of the fact that the book starts with what is by all
accounts an immaculate spot, things being what they are the individuals in the Community are living shallow and shallow
lives. As Jonas starts his role as the Receiver of Memories, he picks up knowledge and through that intelligence, discovers
that in shielding the Community from the recollections, their lives have needed feeling and comprehension. At last, Jonas
figures out how to esteem his better approach for seeing and decides to hazard everything to restore care and insight to
everybody in the Community.

arrangement to give back the recollections to everybody in the Community, so everybody could feel, so everybody could

Jonas learned Gabe was booked to be discharged, he decided to move rapidly. In the wake of taking sustenance and his dad

Similarities Between Islam And Christianity
With regards to the religions of Islam and Christianity, it is imperative to recognize that these two practices account for
some of the largest followings in the history of modern civilization. With that being said, the links between Islam and
Christianity can be astoundingly similar whilst also offering key characteristics of difference. Although both emphasize
certain ideals in differing contexts, I d argue that it would be reprehensible not to recognize the power the devout followers
of both practices receive upon praying to their God from above.
Islam is a Abrahamic monotheistic religion dating back to 610 CE Saudi Arabia, when the last and final prophet
Muhammad retrieved to a cave to pray and received revelations from God or ( Allah Arabic word for God) through an
angel by the name of Gabriel. These said revelations would later be known as the beginning of the holy book the Quran .
This event took place on Mount Jabal An Nour, in a cave by the name of Hira. It is the world s second largest religion, and
the fastest growing religion. With over 1 billion followers in 50 countries worldwide (predominantly countries in the
Middle East) 24.1 % of the world s population.

Personal Narrative On Closet
Dark at two For the last time Brent, there is nothing in that closet. There never has been and there never will. Just go to bed.
And I will not leave the light on in the hall. You are fourteen, grow up. My parents never seem to understand my fear of the
dark, and of my closet. They tell me over and over that there is nothing in that closet. They think I am too old to be afraid
of something like that. When I tell them that things get changed in my room at night they never seem to believe me either. I
have taken pictures of my stuff before I go to bed, and then taken pictures of it in the morning, evidence that my stuff has
been moved, and they still don t believe me. Tonight is just another one of those nights. I guess mom had a bad day

I speedily ran back to my room. I donned my slippers and my winter coat, and placed a winter cap on my head. I grabbed
my massive flashlight and headed out of the door. I happened to look at my clock and stopped dead in my tracks. The clock
read 2 o clock on the mark. I stood there, dazedly staring at the clock. I turned the light on in my room and ran out into the
hallway. I ran through the entire house flipping on lights madly looking for anything I could find. There was nothing,
absolutely nothing that would help me find my mom. I ran out onto the porch and stared out into the pitch black night.
What was happening? I walked to the edge of the clearing that our house sat on and followed the driveway for awhile.
Suddenly my flashlight died and I found myself totally enclosed in darkness. I began to shake. I walked forward, or what I
thought was forward, until I tripped and fell. I groped around and found that I was completely surrounded by trees. I got up
and walked back the way I thought I had come. I tripped again and tore my pants. I got back up and stumbled like this in
the dark for what seemed like an eternity. I wandered for what seemed like hours. Suddenly I heard a sound. I stopped dead

Tsa Should Use Full Body Scanners
After the devastating terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11th, TSA (Transportation Security Administration) was
created and have since then beefed up their security. Because of all the new security devices and rules taking place now,
the wait time at in the security line is longer, but for a good reason. On an average day, TSA screens 1.1 million bags. Of
those 1.1 million bags, around 50,000 of them have to be checked thoroughly due to suspicious items inside the bags. The
wait time at airport security lines has increased because of new threats. Because of an increase in the wait time at the
security line, some people find it very frustrating and think that all the precautions are unnecessary. Those people are
wrong though. In the past years since TSA was created, multiple bomber attacks have been attempted but have yet to
succeed due to TSA keeping up with its safety requirements. In 2010, TSA started to use full body scanners. Some people
are uncomfortable with the idea that when going through the body scanners, they are almost viewed completely naked and
worry that those photos will be leaked. In Emily Holbrook s article, Airport Security: privacy vs. safety, she makes an
interesting pint when it comes to body scanners by quoting Rep. Jason Chaffetz, who said, you don t need to look at my
wife and 8 year old daughter naked in order to secure that airplane (quoted in QTD. Holbrook 14). This is an issue that has

Comparing Opera And Opera
1. An opera is a drama that is heavily supported with instruments and music. An opera seria is a more serious type of opera
and was popular in Itally. 2. The main difference is that a recitative includes more talking, and actors or actresses could
have more of a casual exchange with talking involved, where an aria is more singing. 3. An oratorio is a includes
instruments, a choir, and soloists and includes many of the same characteristics of operas. A difference is that an oratorio is
always centered around a religious theme. 4. homophonic, polyphonic, and monophony 5. A cantata is a piece with soloists

Female Painting Research Paper
I have been in the professional painting business for 10 years now, I am a 39 year old female. I get a lot of questions and
odd looks when they see a female painter, but after they see my work, I get a lot of comments. The comments are usually
geared towards how great of a job I do and how neat my painting is, compared to other painters they have hired, in many
cases I had to correct other painters work or finish what they started.
I have worked with many male painters and only a couple of female painters, but I find there are more and more females
getting into the painting business.
I find painting very relaxing and I love seeing the end results.

its just personal preference. You will learn what works best for you and what doesn t along the way. I grabbed 2 putty

Symbols In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
A symbol is something used to stand for something else. In literature, a symbol is most often used to represent an idea
more complex in scope and meaning often a moral, religious, or philosophical concept or value. Nathaniel Hawthorne has
a perfect atmosphere for the symbols in The Scarlet Letter because the Puritans saw the world through allegory. (Cliffs
Notes).
The most obvious symbol in the novel is the actual scarlet letter A , which represents a sign of adultery, atonement, and
compunction. The letter is a daily reminder of shame for Hester, Hawthorne writes, ...Hester Prynne had always this
dreadful agony in feeling a human eye upon the token; the spot never grew callous; it seemed, on the contrary, to grow
more sensitive with daily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Puritans view Dimmesdale as a saint, but instead he is morally anemic and unable to confess his hidden sin.
Dimmesdale is a symbol of hypocrisy and self centered intellectualism; he knows what is right but has not the courage to
make himself do the public act, he represents the secret sinner who fights the good fight in his soul and eventually wins.
(Cliffs Notes). Chillingworth is seen as a victim a husband betrayed. But in reality, he is the worst possible offender of
humanity and single mindedly pursuing an evil goal. Chillingworth is consistently a symbol of cold reason and intellect
unencumbered by human compassion. (Cliffs

forced by either drugs or they were brainwashed into doing killing. They were also forced to kill if they don t they would

Why Do People Listen With Music Before Exercise Or...
If you were to ask 100 athletes if they listen to music before competing, almost every one of them will reply with a definite
yes. Music has its place in sports and brings a certain culture to sports that seems to grow every year. Why do people listen
to music before exercise or participating in competition? Does it give athletes an edge? Does it help athletes to focus, or
perform better? This is a question that has brought countless research. My personal opinion is yes, it does optimize
physical performance as well as mental performance. Most research that has been made by scientists support this same
conclusion.
Music can go great with almost any activity, but it seems like music and sports just go hand in hand with each other.
Athletes across the world rely on music to get them in the right state of mind before a game or an important event. There s
just something about music and the way it can instantly change someone s mood and the way they perform. There s a
reason that music is played before major sporting events, it not only can put the athletes in a better state of mind, but can
also heighten the mood of the crowd, which makes for the perfect atmosphere for the athletes.
Most studies have shown that the biggest reason people listen to music while exercising or participating in a competition is
that it can draw the individuals away from the physical and mental exhaustion they are enduring. I can personally relate to
this because I feel like when I am listening to

Multiculturalism and the Canadian identity Essay
Multiculturalism and the Canadian identity.
Introduction
What is Canada? What is a Canadian? Canada, to employ Voltaire s analogy, is nothing but a few acres of snow. . Of
course, the philosopher spoke of New France, when he made that analogy. More recently, a former Prime Minister, Joe
Clark, said that the country was nothing but a community of communities . Both these images have helped us, in one way
or another, try to interpret what could define this country. On the other hand, a Canadian could be a beer, a hockey playing
beaver or even a canoe floating in a summer day s sunset. A Canadian could also be a sovereigntyphobe , refusing to see
the liquefaction, albeit political, of the second largest country in the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the rest of Canada employs the concept of multiculturalism, Quebec emphasizes on another theory: interculturalism,
or the notion of support in cross cultural dialogue and challenging self segregation tendencies within cultures. In the
province, the word multiculturalism announces pejorative meanings. This was due, in part, to the fact that a federal
commission which was charged several years ago with the task of developing policies for Canada, based on its bicultural
and bilingual character emerged with a recommendation that Canada think of itself as a multicultural and bilingual
country.3 . Francophones, on the other hand, felt that this concept placed them at the same level as minority ethnic groups,
thus erasing their thoughts of being seen as one of the country s founding nations.
Religious symbolism and governmental position
In 1985, a request, made by Baltej Singh Dhillon, who asked to allow the addition of a religious symbol to the RCMP s
emblematic red uniform, changed the way the force was perceived, in the country. This gesture begged one question:
Would a religious symbol be accepted, in any given governmental environment, where religious attire is often seen a
source of tension? For many, the RCMP was seen as the pinnacle of Canadian identity. As a result, many groups felt that a
turban would not have the same level of symbolic sanctity as the Stetson hat, worn by RCMP officers. The Canadian
population also felt that

Charles Dickens And The Victorian Era
Charles Dickens and the Victorian Era The various themes and ideas of the Victorian era are perfectly showcased in the
many novels and short stories of Charles Dickens. The writers of the Victorian era produced an enormous amount of the
greatest novels to ever be written those that were realistic, thickly plotted, crowded with characters, and long. They, more
often than not, showed the characteristics of the different social classes in society. Generally humorous, most books were
targeted to the middle, as they could relate to them the most easily. Dickens own works have extensive plots woven
throughout each of them, one in particular being that of Bleak House. That novel is considered to be Dickens longest and
contains a grand total of fifty characters, all of which are interconnected by some standard. Its plot surrounds a mysterious
murder and lawsuit. A large portion of Dickens inspiration for his works came from his own childhood and adolescence.
He was born Charles John Huffam Dickens to parents John and Elizabeth on February 7, 1812. Charles was the second of
their eight children. As a child, the family employed two servants. One was named Mary Weller, and she was instrumental
in Charles life. She told him and his siblings made up stories, which she swore were true, and thus stretched his
imagination and fascination for storytelling. His father was employed as a clerk in the

The Horatio Alger Myth
In the current state of America, several issues such as race, gender, sexual orientation and upward mobility are still relevent
concerns. The Horatio Alger Myth of being able to move upward on merit and hard work alone is an ideology of the 1950 s
that clings to the coattails of America s lower class even today. Though the thought of moving upwards in society is
hopeful, it is not always plausible. The barriers seperating people in the lower class and upper middle class is growing.
What is needed is the Redefinition of upward mobility for pleople of lower income. The Horatio Alger Myth is still just a

As Coontz corrilates Still, I have no illusions that I d actually go back to the 1950s , and neither do most people who
express such occasional nostalgia (Coontz, 28). The air that it held of being secure in ones job, future and family was
something that everyone could take a security in. Even if that security wasn t something that would have essentailly come
to them. People of minorities weren t treated fairly, neither were women. However the ideal of a white man in the 1950 s,
working and being able to live comfortably with a family and send his children to school was something that everyone
wanted to attain, and still want to attain today. Even as the bridges are closed between racial and gender profiling and
stereotyping are closing, even if their not closed completely. Financial stability and the gap between the working and upper
classes in America is still growing more and more distant as the economy continues downward. The Horatio Alger myth is
still going strong, and ideally as perfect as that situation is. The Myth in question needs to change to suit the changes of
America, or America needs to become a place like the myth where you can move up in the world with hard work and

Compare Chandragupta And Ashoka
Soft power gave Chandragupta and Ashoka legitimacy because they showed concern for the needs and resources of people,
so therefore everyone knew these leaders cared for the citizens.Chandragupta Maurya and Ashoka were both rulers of the
Mauryan Empire, which dominated most of South Asia around 300 BCE. Chandragupta was the first ruler of this empire,
and was guided by his father Kautilya, who also wrote the Arthasastra. The Arthasastra instructed kings on how they
should rule the empire, and Chandragupta followed its guidance. Ashoka, on the other hand, was originally a power hungry
and selfish man, and he was known for killing and deporting thousands of people to conquer Kalinga. However, after this

insufficiency. This shows how he focuses on the needs of the people, believes everyone should have access to something as
vital as good medicine. Also, the second section of Book II of the Arthasastra explains how the king must store items such
as vegetables, timber, and metals in the forts so they can be used for years. Most of these items are basic resources. Just
like in the modern world, there were areas that lack access to them. Chandragupta wanted to store these items so that
everyone could enjoy them. This shows how Chandragupta believed that having an abundance of resources for the people
to use will be a good thing, and that he wants all the citizens to have these staples. The people understood that their leader
believed everyone in the empire should have basic needs and his unselfish concern therefore appealed to

Working With Client Reflection

cooperative my client Scott was. Although it was very comfortable with him, I did find myself on occasion not knowing
what say when he asked questions, but I did my best to answer what I could and made it known that I did not know the
answer, but was willing to do some outside research. One of the first questions I can remember Scott asking me was, what

His response was he appreciated how welcoming I was and how comfortable I made him feel. Some other positive
feedback he gave was; my honesty to questions I did not know about, he felt that I was very knowledgeable, approachable,

sensitive information. Getting people to feel comfortable is the first step to establishing rapport with your client. With that
rapport comes trust and understanding ultimately leading to more vulnerability and trust between the dietitian and client.
Another strength I think is important is approachability, if your client does not feel comfortable talking to you and reaching
out in times of need, then you won t be able to establish a rapport outside a clinical setting.
During the second protocol, I noticed that I was good at suggesting alternatives foods and ingredients in meal. When it
comes to assessing your clients eating habits, finding ways and using tactics to modify already existing diets, especially in
case when dealing with diverse cultures and ethnicities is very important. An example I mentioned to Scott during out
appointments was discussing portion sizes. During times when Scott would eat

Commentary
The article discusses the environmental issues that Australia faces as a result of numerous companies emitting greenhouse
gases such as carbon dioxide. Thanks to that, a negative externality occurs because the production of goods and services in
Australia has a major effect upon a third party. For example, a company is set up next to a residential area; this will have a
negative effect on the residents living in that region. For this reason the Australian government is deciding whether to
impose taxes on carbon emissions for the worst polluters
Figure 1 shows that the marginal private costs of the Australian firms are below the marginal social costs, the pollution

Welfare Loss In figure 2, the deadweight burden had been reduced, because the tax is not identical to the external cost,
therefore the externality has not been eliminated, but it is less than previously when there was no government intervention.
Although taxes are seen as a way of making polluters pay, there are some problems with this solution. First, the Australian
government will find it very difficult to measure accurately the pollution created by firms and give a value to it, in which it
can be regained by tax. Second, it is also very hard to identify which firms are polluting and to what extent are they
responsible for the pollution. Third, it is often argued that tax do not actually stop the pollution from taking place.
Furthermore, putting taxes on those firms will lead to inflation because they have higher costs to pay for, and to
compensate for that, they will increase consumer prices.
The shortage in domestic investment could lead to the closure of many firms or movement abroad and that will doubtless
cause unemployment in Australia. Furthermore, while Australia imposes this tax to help alleviate a global concern, it doesn
t necessarily mean its competitors will and the extra production costs for Australian firms will give it an unfair
disadvantage. The

A Common Technique Used By John Updike
A common technique used by authors throughout literature is the growth of the main character into their own. From the
maturation of a selfish soul into a triumphant hero, or the rise of a shunned underdog into a loved champion, authors have
create situations for their characters that teach readers a significant life lesson about the world we live in. For example,
John Updike s Sammy from A P and Flannery O Connor s Grandmother from A Good Man is Hard to Find both receive
wake up calls from the respective antagonists of their stories. They are put in high stress situations where their morals and
beliefs are pushed to the limit. Both O Connor and Updike utilized the high stress situations to make the reader question
their own beliefs; therefore, causing the readers to empathize with the main characters. Sammy and the Grandmother
experience unique situations that force them to question their way of thinking; however, those lessons are not restricted to
them, but also lessons everyone has to learn. John Updike does a great job of creating a character in Sammy that young
boys are able to relate to, and then making him mature due to a shocking realization about the real world. Like most
teenage boys, he is sarcastic and opinionated, but Sammy sets himself apart by being oddly observant. The mundane
routine of his boring bag boy job is turned upside down when the three girls around his age walk in. He immediately takes
notice and starts to pick apart every detail about the trio.

Under the oak tree, Freddy sat playing in the mud. Rolling a piece of mud between his hands, he eyed the distance between
him and Seymour. Taking a small hop closer to the pond, he checked the distance again. Drawing his arm back, he threw
the mud ball at Seymour. Lucky for Seymour, Freddy s aim was a little off. The mud ball hit the water next to Seymour s
head splashing him.
The shock of water on his face shot him straight up, arms waving about. Then he came straight down like a rock. He
surfaced and looked right at Freddy.
What was that for?
I m tired of playing by myself.

That s what I saw, said Freddy. It must be Tanks treasure, but I m afraid the river will move it and it would be lost forever. I

That would be fine, Peanut said. He hoped the rock would be safe until they came back for it.

Liberia Civil War Research Paper
Causes of Liberian Civil War
Have you ever been asked if you want long sleeves or short sleeves? If you were asked this, you thought about shirts. In
Liberia during the civil war, if the rebels caught you and asked this question, they meant do you want your arms cut off at
the shoulder or wrist. Liberia is located along the Atlantic Coast of West Africa and its capital is Monrovia (Vinck, Pham,
Kreutzer, 8). There are about 4 million people and 17 major ethnic groups (9). Liberia s civil war between 1989 and 2003
left hundreds of thousands dead and many more affected by the extreme violence that ravaged the country (3). There are
several fundamental causes for this devastating civil war and three of them are: the socio economic policies ... Show more

In the 1970 s when educated indigenous Liberians protested the raise in rice prices, the Tolbert government violently put
down the protest by killing 40 students and wounding 400 (59). This set the stage for a group called The People s
Revolutionary Council led by Samuel Doe to lead a coup on April 12, 1980 that took over the government killing President
Tolbert and many others (61). Doe became a dictator who put his ethnic Krahn tribe in charge of everything and took all
the natural resources for his own profit (62). Any ethnic groups not of the Krahn tribe were persecuted and many were
killed (63). Due to the atrocities suffered under Doe s dictatorship, different ethnic groups formed rebel organizations to try
to defeat Doe. Charles Taylor led an invasion into Liberia with the backing of the Gola and Mano tribes (Global Security,
2). The Gio tribe under Prince Johnson formed its own rebel force (2). This began a bloody three way war. Although the
reason given for the civil war was to provide different ethnic groups with the right to participate in the government, one of
the factors that drove the warlords was the desire to exploit Liberia s natural

The Pros And Cons Of Thalidomide
Hazardous Chemical Paper
Introduction:
In 1957, one of the worst chemical drugs was put on the market to result in a major tragedy in the Chemical field. This
drug was Thalidomide. Thalidomide is a mutagen, studied in toxicology, in which it causes damage to the chemical
material within an embryo when in development. This drug was created in West Germany by a pharmaceutical company,
Chemie Grünenthal (Recognition of Thalidomide Defects, n.d.). During this time when Thalidomide was introduced to the
market, it was classified as safe to use. This drug was originally prescribed to pregnant women to prevent morning
sickness, insomnia, anxiety and upset stomachs (Breaking News., n.d.). However, it was later determined that this drug

Thalidomide has been shown to help stop the growing process of cancer, and other skin conditions. One example of this
was in 1964, a professor named Jacob Sheskin from Hadassah University Hospital had a patient with leprosy. This
professor then used thalidomide to help treat it, and the results were successful (Robertson, Jan 11, 2015.). By looking at
the image on the right, it can be seen that Thalidomide does bind to the protein CRBN, as recently stated up above. When a
carcinogen begins to cause a cancer, thalidomide actually stops the process of the cancer from growing. Similarly, when a
baby is growing, thalidomide stops the advancements in the body, creating a negative outcome. But when thalidomide is
taken when negative advancements are already occurring like cancer, it is helpful to stop them. This is a great example to
show that Thalidomide should remain on the market to help people with certain conditions. However, there should be rules
set into place. For example, if a person doesn t want to have any more kids, then they should be able to take thalidomide as
they won t be affected. Thalidomide only affects the baby when it is developing, so it should be perfectly fine for the
mother to take it if she is done having kids. (Strong, Jan. 11,

What Is The Theme Of 2001 A Space Odyssey
Arthur C. Clarke, an award winning author, in his novel, 2001: A Space Odyssey, suggests that human evolution would not
have been possible without the help of extra terrestrial beings and the use of tools. Clarke is able to support his suggestions
by narrating the influence the extraterrestrials have on humans and by describing the importance of the tools humans
utilize. His purpose was to share his take on the final frontier in order to help readers make their own opinions and
conclusions on evolution and deep space. Clarke utilizes a direct and scientific tone with his audience in a way to help
them follow along, so that they don t lose focus on the important themes throughout the novel. The first encounter we have
on external help in the evolution of humans occurs very early in the book and in human history. Around 3 million years
ago, when humanoid apes started to stand upright, an eerie, transparent slab that stood taller than any of the humanoids,
made its appearance on Earth, (It was the clank of metal upon stone, (Arthur Clarke, pg.11 p.1). This slab would change
the course of human history. The slab could manipulate and feed thoughts into the apes that they would never had created

Film Techniques In Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho
The film Psycho directed by Alfred Hitchcock is an excellent example that exploits many film techniques, to create
different effects in the opening sequence and further on in the film. Many of these film techniques can be seen in the
opening scene where Marion Crane meets her lover (Sam) who she is having an affair with. The two characters can be seen
meeting at a cheap hotel during Marion s extended lunch break, they discuss the progression of their relationship and how
they cannot afford to get married. However, their conversation ends when Marion must return to her work, at the real estate
agents. Hitchcock uses these techniques such as camera angles, diegetic sound and non diegetic sound etc. to give a
specific effect which will go on to build up the main themes of the film. In the beginning of the opening scene, the film
shows the skyline of Phoenix before zooming into the window of a hotel room. Hitchcock cleverly uses these camera
angles to build up the theme of voyeurism, giving the effect of curiosity to the audience. The first appearance of voyeurism
is when the camera zooms in from the establishing shot of the city to reveal the window of the cheap hotel room, where the
couple, Marion and Sam stayed in. The use of a high angle shot looking down towards the window of the hotel creates the
feeling that the couple is being watched or possibly being spied on. This leaves an effect on the audience, as the angle
gives a sense of judgement making the audience to judge

The Suffering Servant Of Isaiah 52 And 53
THE SUFFERING SERVANT OF ISAIAH 52 AND 53
The book of Isaiah provides a message to the nation of Israel and is one of the most powerful books of prophecy in the
Bible. The prophet spoke of events to come that many have attempted to discern. Scholars, Rabbis and Christian Clergy
differ in their interpretations of these passages in Isaiah 52 and 53.
This paper will address these biblical passages in Isaiah 52 and 53, which describes a suffering servant to the Lord God.
There has been a debate as to whether these passages where describing the Messiah who would come to restore Israel as
God s chosen people or if the passage was describing the nation of Israel as the suffering servant . Christian scholars and
clergy view these passages as describing Jesus who they affirm as the Messiah. The text is written in a poetic form and
flows from one subject to another, however, many view these passages as being extremely detailed prophecy about the
Messiah to come. I will point out key passages and explain how these passages provide clarity about whom the writer was
speaking. This paper will point out why Jesus is the suffering servant , who is mentioned in Isaiah and explain why the
suffering servant is not the nation of Israel as others propose.

Two very important human resource strategies are the traditional job analysis and competency modelling. But which
strategy is the better? It may be problematic to compare the traditional job analysis and competency modelling as they

Love Medicine Louise Eldrich Analysis
In the story, Love Medicine , the author, Louisa Eldrich, uses symbols and the Turkey heart is representative of many
things presented in the story; Such as Grandpa s outlook on life, his relationship with Grandpa, Lulu and his battle with
Alzheimer s. The turkey hearts represent grandpa s outlook on life.
Grandpa s outlook on life regarding his relationship with Grandma is that he didn t want a second chance. There was no
romance between them anymore. He did not find Grandma pretty anymore. In the text, it describes Grandma to a house:
sagged and buldged on her slipped foundation. ( pg 297) She wasn t as pretty to him as Lulu Lamartine was. The Turkey
Heart was given to Grandpa and Grandma to mend their broken relationship. He was pressured to keep their relationship

he was mortified, and he didn t like her anymore as well. That shows that he prefers things that are fake and materialistic. It

Carlos Salazar Pursuit Of Happiness
Carlos Salazar begins Pursuit of Happiness by creating an idea of the different kinds of happiness that exist. Salazar states
in his thesis that, Happiness is temporarily most of the time but love is the only happiness that can last the longest (1).
Salazar has a roadmap included in his thesis but throughout his essay he tends to steer off his roadmap. Salazar s main
points consist of the temporary happiness that drugs, sleep, sex, and love contain. Although Salazar includes a roadmap in
his thesis and also clearly connects his topic to Drop City, Salazar needs to stay on his roadmap, come up with a counter
argument, and organize his body paragraphs. Including a roadmap in a thesis is great but what is even more great is an
essay that is composed by following the roadmap that is set in a thesis. Salazar s claim is that love is a happiness that lasts
the longest in comparison to any other kind of happiness. Even though he does include reasoning of his claim in his
paragraphs, in some sections of his writing, Salazar seems to actually make the claim that in some cases a person s
interpretation of happiness is not actually happiness. They all make people happy but is it worth being happy for the things
that they do or are they just wasting time trying to be happy (Salazar 5). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

separate paragraphs for each different topic. By creating more paragraphs for each topic instead of combining multiple
topics into one paragraph Salazar will help his readers understand his writing in a more facile

Usage of line powered device could be dangerous. As leakage of AC current (i.e. 60 hertz) in the body if it is of sufficient
amplitude and duration it can cause motor nerves depolarization thus induce involuntary tetanic like muscle contraction. As
in most of the humans muscle contraction frequencies are 40 and 60 hertz.
3. Battery powered devices
Leaking of current from a battery powered device is not dangerous. They are safe because there is continuous 0 hertz DC
current regardless of its amplitude and duration. This low voltage current cannot be able to cause nerve depolarization and
thus couldn t induce titanic muscle contraction.
D. Physiological damage
When a 60 hertz AC current of 5 mA passes through a body it may cause unwanted physiological changes such as tissue
burn and tetanic muscle contraction which may cause severe body injuries including death.

The Relationship Between Sensitivity And Punishment And...
The Relationship between Sensitivity to Reward and Punishment and Eating Behaviours
Courtney Andrews
Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University
Abstract
A study involving 252 participants undergoing the course Biological Psychology was carried out in order to examine the
correlation between sensitivity to reward (SP), Body Mass Index (BMI), weight and more frequent consumption of
unhealthy fast foods, (e.g., high in fat and sugar). The core results showed the participants found that sensitivity to reward
was strongly negatively correlated with BMI and weight. However, both these correlations are not statistically significant
at the 95% confidence level. Alongside this finding, sensitivity to reward was positively correlated with unhealthy fast
foods, which leads to more frequent consumption of fatty and sugar rich foods. These values were also not statistically
significant. This research needs to consider gender balance inequality, environmental cues such the accessibility of fast
food (e.g., the amount and distance these restaurants are from their home residence) and one time collection of data used.
The Relationship between Sensitivity to Reward and Punishment and Eating Behaviours
Undoubtedly, the obesity epidemic in western society has never been so prevalent as the rate continually is climbing. There
is an ample body of research that suggests that more frequent consumption of unhealthy fast

Essay on Cultural Anthropology and Ethnographic Fieldwork
Cultural Anthropology and Ethnographic Fieldwork
James P. Spradley (1979) described the insider approach to understanding culture as a quiet revolution among the social
sciences (p. iii). Cultural anthropologists, however, have long emphasized the importance of the ethnographic method, an
approach to understanding a different culture through participation, observation, the use of key informants, and interviews.
Cultural anthropologists have employed the ethnographic method in an attempt to surmount several formidable cultural
questions: How can one understand another s culture? How can culture be qualitatively and quantitatively assessed? What
aspects of a culture make it unique and which connect it to other cultures? If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This interpretation must make meaning from the culture in the same way that natives draw meaning. According to Spradley
(1979), the structural components of cultural meaning come from what people say, what they do, and what artifacts they
use (p. 9). In anthropological field work, he or she attempts to observe and document these cultural aspects. In addition,
and more importantly, the anthropologist must then, as accurately as possible, make inferences which parallel those of the
natives.
The grandiose task of wearing another s cultural skin understandably comes with a host of opinions on how such a job can
be accomplished. Anthropologists have long argued about the accuracy of ethnographies (Levinson Ember, 1996, pp. 419
21). Much of the discussion stems from the assumption that some cultural aspects are ineffable and subconscious. Can an
anthropologist approach his subject, as Spradley argues, with a conscious attitude of almost complete ignorance ? Is it
possible to consciously withhold one s own cultural interpretations while attempting to study that very thing in another
culture? (Spradley, 1979, p. 4 Levinson Ember, 1996, pp. 419 21).
Anthropologist Robert M. Keesing, in his essay Not a Real Fish: The Ethnographer as Insider Outsider, (1992) deals
candidly with the problems of fully becoming an

  • 2. What Does Yada Mean The biblical concept comes from the use of the word Yada , which means to know. I personally really enjoy that word or better yet, the loftiness in the way the hebrews used words. I said to myself sometime today before I viewed the lecture that the term love has become almost dead in my vocabulary. Our culture has abused it. Anyway, Yada means to know, but in their culture, you don t truly know someone unless you have a a very personal and intimate relationship. A close, warm, passionate intimacy was was a must or you didn t know someone. Relating this concept, our knowing God, to divine revelation. Through God s love profoundly expressed through Jesus s coming, living, and dying for us on the cross, we see the han God has for us. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Case Study Of BIMS Introduction The company (BIMS) Ballard Integrated Managed Services, Inc. is a company that does housekeeping and food service for many companies. The company has come up with some issues in the last four months, which was an increase in turnover. The company has an average turnover rate of 50 to 60%. With now a 64% rate of turnover BIMS knows there is a problem. Management is not sure as to why the turnover rate has risen so much. They have failed to find the origin of the problem. Another problem is that the morale in the company is low, and the sick leave is increasing. Management is determined to figure out what is causing the problem to find a solution. An approach that the company will take is to give all 452 employees a survey. Data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The survey was created to help employees in BIMS to help management find what is causing the turn over by giving their opinion with the company. There are ten questions in the survey, the first one asks employees to express how they feel with their employment. Communication is also pointed out in the survey, to see how communication is between employee and management. These questions have to be answered by circling a number from one to five. One for very negative and five for very positive. That s is for questions one to ten. There are also four extra questions that need to be answered different, there is one that the employee has to state what sex they are either male or female, also about how long they have worked for the company, so these questions can not be answered in a one to five format. As well as to in what area they work in. taking a look at the answers one can connect points and see that there was a small communication between employee and manager. Also another point is that there are many hours assigned to workers and they are not satisfied with the pay. Levels of measurement BIMS used nominal, ordinal, and interval levels of analysis in the survey. In the Nominal level there was classification done. Then followed the ordinal level, which took care of classifying and ordering in the survey. Then followed the interval level which classifying, ordering and distance. Interval was applied in the question which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Detection And Treatment Of Malocclusions And Other Dental... Abstract Detection and treatment of malocclusions and other dental deformities are a considerable field of work in the plan of orthodontic treatment. Severe malformations of the midface such as maxillary or mandibular deformity can be treated by the distraction and reformation of skull bones. During an operation, the appropriate bony part of the mid face is separated from the rest of the skull (osteotomy), slowly moved into the ideal position by way of a distraction device. In the current clinical practice, planning for orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery was based on Computed Tomography (CT) data sets. CT images are inefficient for helping the orthodontists and surgeons in treatment and surgical planning. A tool is needed to help the physicians and surgeons in the treatment planning in order to anticipate the results and give the accurate decision, in this paper there are preliminary descriptive studies on DICOM images of the skull to help the orthodontists by providing the following algorithms: Segmentation of the lower jaw (mandible), Segmentation of the upper jaw (maxilla) from CT data, Segmentation of upper teeth, each tooth and computation of mandible volume. Keywords: CT scans, threshold, K mean, Region growing, DICOM. Introduction The need for clear images of cranial morphology has an important role in the progress of treatment and planning for craniofacial surgery [1]. • 5. Red Emma Song Review Essay The song Red Emma uses a trumpet, guitar, drums, tambourine, and it sounds like a maraca is used occasionally. The trumpet opens with a melody and then plays a similar melody at the end of the song. There are solo improvisations from the trumpet, guitar, and drums. The drummer and guitarist play improvised melodies underneath the trumpeter for most of the song, except when they take their solos. During the solo improvisations, the instruments that are not soloing are playing melodies underneath the improvisation. Technically, there is no rhythm section because the drums and guitar play improvised melodies throughout the song. The drummer does keep a rhythm and follows a structure that is established by the trumpeter. The trumpet adds tone color by playing across the range from low to high and adjusting pitch. The guitar changes the tone by playing different chords that have a low and high pitch. The drummer adds colorations by using cymbals and playing different drums to alter pitch. The song uses an A B C D form that is not consistent throughout the song. This song is very different from anything that I have ever listened to. This upbeat and fast tempo song has an excited feel about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both songs use different instrumentation, except for the drums. Both songs play their instruments in a high register and alter the pitch to add colorations. The tempo of both songs is fast, but Miami has the faster tempo. Both of the songs have a cultural sound and they have an upbeat and driving feeling. Red Emma draws from Eastern European influences and Miami draws from African, South America, Cuban, and Caribbean influences. The rhythms of both songs are different, but they are what drive both of these songs and establish their cultural sound. • 6. Jonas Role In The Giver The primary character, Jonas, in Lois Lowry s The Giver experiences a point in which he sees his ability to go past. Jonas starts to see his Community in an unexpected way, with a mindfulness or care that a great many people in the Community have needed. Care, actually, is one of focal topics in The Giver. In spite of the fact that the book starts with what is by all accounts an immaculate spot, things being what they are the individuals in the Community are living shallow and shallow lives. As Jonas starts his role as the Receiver of Memories, he picks up knowledge and through that intelligence, discovers that in shielding the Community from the recollections, their lives have needed feeling and comprehension. • 7. Similarities Between Islam And Christianity With regards to the religions of Islam and Christianity, it is imperative to recognize that these two practices account for some of the largest followings in the history of modern civilization. With that being said, the links between Islam and Christianity can be astoundingly similar whilst also offering key characteristics of difference. Although both emphasize certain ideals in differing contexts, I d argue that it would be reprehensible not to recognize the power the devout followers of both practices receive upon praying to their God from above. Islam is a Abrahamic monotheistic religion dating back to 610 CE Saudi Arabia, when the last and final prophet Muhammad retrieved to a cave to pray and received revelations from God or ( Allah Arabic word for God) through an angel by the name of Gabriel. These said revelations would later be known as the beginning of the holy book the Quran . This event took place on Mount Jabal An Nour, in a cave by the name of Hira. It is the world s second largest religion, and the fastest growing religion. With over 1 billion followers in 50 countries worldwide (predominantly countries in the Middle East) 24.1 % of the world s population. B. I ran through the entire house flipping on lights madly looking for anything I could find. There was nothing, absolutely nothing that would help me find my mom. I ran out onto the porch and stared out into the pitch black night. What was happening? I walked to the edge of the clearing that our house sat on and followed the driveway for awhile. Suddenly my flashlight died and I found myself totally enclosed in darkness. I began to shake. I walked forward, or what I thought was forward, until I tripped and fell. • 10. Tsa Should Use Full Body Scanners After the devastating terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11th, TSA (Transportation Security Administration) was created and have since then beefed up their security. Because of all the new security devices and rules taking place now, the wait time at in the security line is longer, but for a good reason. On an average day, TSA screens 1.1 million bags. Of those 1.1 million bags, around 50,000 of them have to be checked thoroughly due to suspicious items inside the bags. The wait time at airport security lines has increased because of new threats. Because of an increase in the wait time at the security line, some people find it very frustrating and think that all the precautions are unnecessary. Those people are wrong though. In the past years since TSA was created, multiple bomber attacks have been attempted but have yet to succeed due to TSA keeping up with its safety requirements. In 2010, TSA started to use full body scanners. Some people are uncomfortable with the idea that when going through the body scanners, they are almost viewed completely naked and worry that those photos will be leaked. In Emily Holbrook s article, Airport Security: privacy vs. safety, she makes an interesting pint when it comes to body scanners by quoting Rep. Jason Chaffetz, who said, you don t need to look at my wife and 8 year old daughter naked in order to secure that airplane (quoted in QTD. Holbrook 14). I get a lot of questions and odd looks when they see a female painter, but after they see my work, I get a lot of comments. The comments are usually geared towards how great of a job I do and how neat my painting is, compared to other painters they have hired, in many cases I had to correct other painters work or finish what they started. I have worked with many male painters and only a couple of female painters, but I find there are more and more females getting into the painting business. • 13. Symbols In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter A symbol is something used to stand for something else. In literature, a symbol is most often used to represent an idea more complex in scope and meaning often a moral, religious, or philosophical concept or value. Nathaniel Hawthorne has a perfect atmosphere for the symbols in The Scarlet Letter because the Puritans saw the world through allegory. (Cliffs Notes). The most obvious symbol in the novel is the actual scarlet letter A , which represents a sign of adultery, atonement, and compunction. The letter is a daily reminder of shame for Hester, Hawthorne writes, ...Hester Prynne had always this dreadful agony in feeling a human eye upon the token; the spot never grew callous; it seemed, on the contrary, to grow more sensitive with daily ... • 15. Why Do People Listen With Music Before Exercise Or... If you were to ask 100 athletes if they listen to music before competing, almost every one of them will reply with a definite yes. Music has its place in sports and brings a certain culture to sports that seems to grow every year. Why do people listen to music before exercise or participating in competition? Does it give athletes an edge? Does it help athletes to focus, or perform better? This is a question that has brought countless research. My personal opinion is yes, it does optimize physical performance as well as mental performance. Most research that has been made by scientists support this same conclusion. Music can go great with almost any activity, but it seems like music and sports just go hand in hand with each other. Athletes across the world rely on music to get them in the right state of mind before a game or an important event. There s just something about music and the way it can instantly change someone s mood and the way they perform. There s a reason that music is played before major sporting events, it not only can put the athletes in a better state of mind, but can also heighten the mood of the crowd, which makes for the perfect atmosphere for the athletes. Most studies have shown that the biggest reason people listen to music while exercising or participating in a competition is that it can draw the individuals away from the physical and mental exhaustion they are enduring. I can personally relate to this because I feel like when I am listening to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Multiculturalism and the Canadian identity Essay Multiculturalism and the Canadian identity. Introduction What is Canada? What is a Canadian? Canada, to employ Voltaire s analogy, is nothing but a few acres of snow. . Of course, the philosopher spoke of New France, when he made that analogy. More recently, a former Prime Minister, Joe Clark, said that the country was nothing but a community of communities . Both these images have helped us, in one way or another, try to interpret what could define this country. On the other hand, a Canadian could be a beer, a hockey playing beaver or even a canoe floating in a summer day s sunset. A Canadian could also be a sovereigntyphobe , refusing to see the liquefaction, albeit political, of the second largest country in the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the rest of Canada employs the concept of multiculturalism, Quebec emphasizes on another theory: interculturalism, or the notion of support in cross cultural dialogue and challenging self segregation tendencies within cultures. In the province, the word multiculturalism announces pejorative meanings. This was due, in part, to the fact that a federal commission which was charged several years ago with the task of developing policies for Canada, based on its bicultural and bilingual character emerged with a recommendation that Canada think of itself as a multicultural and bilingual country.3 . Francophones, on the other hand, felt that this concept placed them at the same level as minority ethnic groups, thus erasing their thoughts of being seen as one of the country s founding nations. Religious symbolism and governmental position In 1985, a request, made by Baltej Singh Dhillon, who asked to allow the addition of a religious symbol to the RCMP s emblematic red uniform, changed the way the force was perceived, in the country. This gesture begged one question: Would a religious symbol be accepted, in any given governmental environment, where religious attire is often seen a source of tension? For many, the RCMP was seen as the pinnacle of Canadian identity. As a result, many groups felt that a turban would not have the same level of symbolic sanctity as the Stetson hat, worn by RCMP officers. The Canadian population also felt that ... • 18. Charles Dickens And The Victorian Era Charles Dickens and the Victorian Era The various themes and ideas of the Victorian era are perfectly showcased in the many novels and short stories of Charles Dickens. The writers of the Victorian era produced an enormous amount of the greatest novels to ever be written those that were realistic, thickly plotted, crowded with characters, and long. They, more often than not, showed the characteristics of the different social classes in society. Generally humorous, most books were targeted to the middle, as they could relate to them the most easily. Dickens own works have extensive plots woven throughout each of them, one in particular being that of Bleak House. That novel is considered to be Dickens longest and contains a grand total of fifty characters, all of which are interconnected by some standard. Its plot surrounds a mysterious murder and lawsuit. A large portion of Dickens inspiration for his works came from his own childhood and adolescence. He was born Charles John Huffam Dickens to parents John and Elizabeth on February 7, 1812. Charles was the second of their eight children. As a child, the family employed two servants. One was named Mary Weller, and she was instrumental in Charles life. She told him and his siblings made up stories, which she swore were true, and thus stretched his imagination and fascination for storytelling. His father was employed as a clerk in the ... Chandragupta was the first ruler of this empire, and was guided by his father Kautilya, who also wrote the Arthasastra. The Arthasastra instructed kings on how they should rule the empire, and Chandragupta followed its guidance. Thanks to that, a negative externality occurs because the production of goods and services in Australia has a major effect upon a third party. Although taxes are seen as a way of making polluters pay, there are some problems with this solution. First, the Australian government will find it very difficult to measure accurately the pollution created by firms and give a value to it, in which it can be regained by tax. Second, it is also very hard to identify which firms are polluting and to what extent are they responsible for the pollution. Third, it is often argued that tax do not actually stop the pollution from taking place. Furthermore, putting taxes on those firms will lead to inflation because they have higher costs to pay for, and to compensate for that, they will increase consumer prices. The shortage in domestic investment could lead to the closure of many firms or movement abroad and that will doubtless cause unemployment in Australia. Furthermore, while Australia imposes this tax to help alleviate a global concern, it doesn t necessarily mean its competitors will and the extra production costs for Australian firms will give it an unfair disadvantage. • 23. A Common Technique Used By John Updike A common technique used by authors throughout literature is the growth of the main character into their own. From the maturation of a selfish soul into a triumphant hero, or the rise of a shunned underdog into a loved champion, authors have create situations for their characters that teach readers a significant life lesson about the world we live in. For example, John Updike s Sammy from A P and Flannery O Connor s Grandmother from A Good Man is Hard to Find both receive wake up calls from the respective antagonists of their stories. They are put in high stress situations where their morals and beliefs are pushed to the limit. Both O Connor and Updike utilized the high stress situations to make the reader question their own beliefs; therefore, causing the readers to empathize with the main characters. Sammy and the Grandmother experience unique situations that force them to question their way of thinking; however, those lessons are not restricted to them, but also lessons everyone has to learn. John Updike does a great job of creating a character in Sammy that young boys are able to relate to, and then making him mature due to a shocking realization about the real world. Like most teenage boys, he is sarcastic and opinionated, but Sammy sets himself apart by being oddly observant. The mundane routine of his boring bag boy job is turned upside down when the three girls around his age walk in. He immediately takes notice and starts to pick apart every detail about the trio. ... By looking at the image on the right, it can be seen that Thalidomide does bind to the protein CRBN, as recently stated up above. Film Techniques In Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho The film Psycho directed by Alfred Hitchcock is an excellent example that exploits many film techniques, to create different effects in the opening sequence and further on in the film. Many of these film techniques can be seen in the opening scene where Marion Crane meets her lover (Sam) who she is having an affair with. The two characters can be seen meeting at a cheap hotel during Marion s extended lunch break, they discuss the progression of their relationship and how they cannot afford to get married. However, their conversation ends when Marion must return to her work, at the real estate agents. Hitchcock uses these techniques such as camera angles, diegetic sound and non diegetic sound etc. to give a specific effect which will go on to build up the main themes of the film. In the beginning of the opening scene, the film shows the skyline of Phoenix before zooming into the window of a hotel room. Hitchcock cleverly uses these camera angles to build up the theme of voyeurism, giving the effect of curiosity to the audience. The first appearance of voyeurism is when the camera zooms in from the establishing shot of the city to reveal the window of the cheap hotel room, where the couple, Marion and Sam stayed in. The use of a high angle shot looking down towards the window of the hotel creates the feeling that the couple is being watched or possibly being spied on. At the same time, we should not ignore that the Jews and Romans acted with gods help. God had all of this planned for Jesus. Jesus came for a mission and his mission was to save his people from their sins even if it included dying. Jesus knew that his time was close. So, it was Day One of our trip and I felt quite nervous. Sleep eluded me the night before as my head was spinning with thoughts of spending the next three weeks flying all the way from Phoenix, Arizona to Santiago, Chile in a small airplane. I couldn t refrain from dwelling on how crazy we were, especially given the State Department warning against U.S. citizens visiting Mexico. Up until that point in time, I had never been out of the continental United States. When I was twelve years old, I visited Puerto Rico; however, I m not sure that counts. For this to be my first true international travel experience felt rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When I arrived at Scottsdale Municipal Airport, to begin our trip, Miguel had already arrived and unloaded his car. He sat perched in front of a mountain of personal belongings. Without even exchanging as much as a, Good morning, we both stood glancing back and forth between his massive pile and the small plane. When we made eye contact, we both burst out laughing. Obviously, we had way too much to put in the plane. In addition to sheer volume, we needed to be concerned with Weight and Balance; in other words, total weight and how it s distributed in relation to the airplane s center of gravity. My weight, Miguel s weight, combined with the weight of the fuel and everything we were taking had to be factored in. Loading the plane accordingly was essential; otherwise, there existed a danger of the plane becoming uncontrollable or not even being able to safely take off. Already falling behind schedule and faced with the full day of flying, we needed to make some decisions quickly. Brandishing a pack of Post it Notes, Miguel suggested we employ to mark each bag with its weight. Armed with a fish scale and Post it Notes, we proceeded to weigh and mark each and every item we had. Deciding what to take and what to leave behind was difficult; we had brought only what we considered essential. For example, one of the bags held assorted medicines and extensive medical supplies which had all been purchased based on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Relationship Between Sensitivity And Punishment And... The Relationship between Sensitivity to Reward and Punishment and Eating Behaviours Courtney Andrews Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University Abstract A study involving 252 participants undergoing the course Biological Psychology was carried out in order to examine the correlation between sensitivity to reward (SP), Body Mass Index (BMI), weight and more frequent consumption of unhealthy fast foods, (e.g., high in fat and sugar). The core results showed the participants found that sensitivity to reward was strongly negatively correlated with BMI and weight. However, both these correlations are not statistically significant at the 95% confidence level. Alongside this finding, sensitivity to reward was positively correlated with unhealthy fast foods, which leads to more frequent consumption of fatty and sugar rich foods. These values were also not statistically significant. This research needs to consider gender balance inequality, environmental cues such the accessibility of fast food (e.g., the amount and distance these restaurants are from their home residence) and one time collection of data used. The Relationship between Sensitivity to Reward and Punishment and Eating Behaviours Undoubtedly, the obesity epidemic in western society has never been so prevalent as the rate continually is climbing. There is an ample body of research that suggests that more frequent consumption of unhealthy fast ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Essay on Cultural Anthropology and Ethnographic Fieldwork Cultural Anthropology and Ethnographic Fieldwork James P. Spradley (1979) described the insider approach to understanding culture as a quiet revolution among the social sciences (p. iii). Cultural anthropologists, however, have long emphasized the importance of the ethnographic method, an approach to understanding a different culture through participation, observation, the use of key informants, and interviews. Cultural anthropologists have employed the ethnographic method in an attempt to surmount several formidable cultural questions: How can one understand another s culture? How can culture be qualitatively and quantitatively assessed? What aspects of a culture make it unique and which connect it to other cultures? If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This interpretation must make meaning from the culture in the same way that natives draw meaning. According to Spradley (1979), the structural components of cultural meaning come from what people say, what they do, and what artifacts they use (p. 9). In anthropological field work, he or she attempts to observe and document these cultural aspects. In addition, and more importantly, the anthropologist must then, as accurately as possible, make inferences which parallel those of the natives. The grandiose task of wearing another s cultural skin understandably comes with a host of opinions on how such a job can be accomplished. Anthropologists have long argued about the accuracy of ethnographies (Levinson Ember, 1996, pp. 419 21). Much of the discussion stems from the assumption that some cultural aspects are ineffable and subconscious. Can an anthropologist approach his subject, as Spradley argues, with a conscious attitude of almost complete ignorance ? Is it possible to consciously withhold one s own cultural interpretations while attempting to study that very thing in another culture? (Spradley, 1979, p. 4 Levinson Ember, 1996, pp. 419 21). Anthropologist Robert M. Keesing, in his essay Not a Real Fish: The Ethnographer as Insider Outsider, (1992) deals candidly with the problems of fully becoming an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
