What Were Thomas Jefferson Major Achievements
Throughout American history, an era with Thomas Jefferson was pretty controversial: Some people questioned
and argued his policies and leadership, like the embargo act. However, somebody still praised what Jefferson did
during his presidency, like gave more liberty to the citizens... Thomas Jefferson was an American icon because he
was one of the most importance presidents in the United States. There is not doubt that Thomas Jefferson is a man
whom should be remembered in the American History. No matter what he had done, good or bad, as the third
president of America, Thomas Jefferson gave his passion into American early development and he did a good job
in a long run. And this essay is focus on the deed of Thomas Jefferson.
Before discussing his major achievements during his life, first we should briefly introduce Thomas Jefferson s
family backgrounds. When you talk about a person, you can not avoid to talk about their family backgrounds.
Surrounding environments can totally shape a person s personalities and change a person as time goes on. For

tribes, plant, and animals in the continent. Thanks to the president Thomas Jefferson, the expedition helped
establish the U.S. presence in the newly acquired territory and let United States have more opportunities to do

To What Extent Is Lorca’s Use of Symbolism and Imagery in...
To what extent is Lorca s use of symbolism and imagery in The House of Bernarda Alba central to the unfolding
of his tragic tale?
When Federico Garcia Lorca talked about his new play, The House of Bernarda Alba, he said that it was pure
realism and did not have a drop of poetry in it, however if you look closely you can see expressionism elements.
The tragedy of the play has been emphasised by symbolism and imagery to help the unfolding of his tragic tale by
presenting the fears, the fact that They ve been robbed of the capacity of hope and tensions of all the characters;
showing the bleak ending for the girls.
Lorca has used the symbol of heat in The House of Bernarda Alba to show the utter desperation for passion and
male attention: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This symbolism is rather tragic in a way as everyone knows that white does not stay clean forever. The colour
white also emphasises the colour black which the family are forced to wear by Bernarda: keep your mourning
clothes on your backs . The symbolic use of black reminds the audience of just how long Bernarda s daughters
will have to endure the mourning of Antonio Maria Benavides and how much it will affect them. On the other
hand the traditional colour the black stand for is death, and there is an abundance of that in this play. At the end of
Act Two there is a women who has had a bastard baby and Bernarda reacts in a horrible was Let any woman who
drags her honour in the dirt pay the price . This could foreshadow what is going to happen to Adela as she has
dragged her honour in the dirt . Also there is a question at weather she is pregnant: clutching herself . This could
show that Adela is pregnant and that she sympathises with the women who is being tortured.
In a way Bernarda is sentencing these girls to life of solitude and unhappiness and Adela also selfishly prolongs
this by killing herself. The lack of colour and of personal opinions in this house hold almost represents a type
asylum, or as is suggested They appear as nuns, not as eligible young women . This lack of colour makes Adela s
lover for colour stand out even more.
When Adela presents

The Media And Health And Safety Of The World s Population
Over the years, the advances in science have increased the health and safety of the world s population. Through
the introduction of vaccines, medicines, and other medical equipment, the scientific world has prevented the
spread of diseases, the possibility of an epidemic, and another devastating pandemic in history like the black
plague. Although vaccines provide a resistance to diseases, many people question the safety of them. There is a
famous theory that vaccines cause autism due to the chemicals within the vaccines, even though scientific
evidence denies any connection. One of the reasons that this theory still exists is due to the portrayal of
information from the media. Based on the opinion of the media outlet, the depiction of the vaccine autism link
changes throughout society. The media is typically the main source of information for citizens, whether they
watch a news channel, read a newspaper, check online newspapers, or listen to the radio, these news outlet supply
our population with the basis of knowledge on all topics. Not many people in this audience will conduct their own
research, this means that the original data and information is usually summarized and changed to fit the opinion of
the media outlet. Some celebrities, like Jenny McCarthy and Charlie Sheen, picked up on the issue and helped
spread the theory; as the media followed their stories, the idea of the connection continued to spread. The debate
about whether vaccines cause autism illustrates the

The Law On Attempt Offences
The law on attempt offence is one of three principal crimes linked with inchoate offences the two other key ones
being incitement and conspiracy. This essay will however only be focusing on and assessing the law on attempt
offences.
Attempt crimes can be classified in two different ways: the first one being when the original plan of a crime fails
to succeed as consequence of an unforeseen factor. The second being when the bringing about of a crime fails due
to a mistake from the offender s side. Both categories involve the perpetrator having taken actual steps towards
committing the crime, but it failing for unexpected reasons. Simply put any attempt to bring about a crime is a
crime in itself.
This all sounds straightforward but in reality, it is far more complicated as what seems per instance, how do you
go about, and why, at all, can someone be punished for a crime which was not even successfully committed those
are questions worth asking. The reason that the conviction of an attempt crime is possible has to do with the fact
that the accused has done their best in bringing about the crime. Ergo the mens rea was present, and it was merely
external factors that prevented the crime from happening. Thus, the accused can still, and is still seen as a danger
to society. Secondly, one should bear in mind that if this kind of interference was not possible, it would be
virtually impossible for law enforcement to intervene in crimes that were at the early stages of

Dennis Rodman is a basketball player who is known for his abnormal appearance. He dyes his hair multiple
colors, has piercings, tattoos, and much more. He is also known for his friendship with North Korean leader Kim
Jong Un. Considering Kim promotes to children, teens, and adults to hate Americans, Dennis must have
something special about him. Maybe it s that Dennis is so much more unique then most people. It seems as society
has made everyone similar, as if we re all in a loop. If you don t act or dress a certain way then you re
automatically an outcast. We almost have to follow rules in order to fit in. Dennis Rodman discarded all these

Privacy And Its Effects On The Privacy
but as new technologies arise in combination with the interest of corporations the ability to stay informed is
putting at risk another important aspect of life, which is our privacy. We have become increasingly dependent on
the internet and its applications to get through our days, to find the information we need, to store and send
information, as well as, for entertainment. Privacy can range from what is contained within email, to what
searches you made last night regarding that back pain you have been suffering for in the past few days. The
selfishness behind the decisions corporations such as googles have taken upon in order to suffice their own
financial goals, does not compare to the discomfort of not having any cyber privacy. Upon the many users Google
serves each one has the right to feel violated, because all are being targeted. While corporations gain, we lose. The
advantage of having information a search away is less pleasing when knowing this information is being stored for
the use of another. Just as recent as May, a ruling in a court of Europe ruled that if users have the ability to search
for the name of a person and their information (ie. Social media sites) the search engine will be made responsible
for the information disbursed, as well as, for deleting the links to such information in certain circumstances. Such

Howard Wasdin Essay
Howard E. Wasdin was an American hero who overcame obstacles from childhood to become part of the elite
SEAL Team Six where he served his country honorably. He wrote a book about his experiences with co author
Stephen Templin. He served in the Navy for twelve years. During this time he fought in Operation: Desert Storm
and was part of the mission in Mogadishu, Somalia, which inspired the movie Black Hawk Down. After being
medically discharged from the U.S. Navy, he became a chiropractor.
Howard Wasdin was born Howard E. Wilbanks on November 8, 1961 in Boynton Beach, Florida to his 15 year
old mother. He was born prematurely, weighed 3 pounds 2 ounces, and was carried home in a shoebox. He was
raised in Screven, Georgia and went to Cumberland College before enlisting in the Navy. As a child, Wasdin
suffered from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) because of an extremely abusive stepfather who beat him
often and violently. When he was in the Navy, he served as a sailor in the Atlantic Fleet and as a Navy SEAL. He
was on the elite SEAL Team Six. Some challenges he faced were being abused by his stepfather Leon, he was in a
helicopter crash while on a mission, and he was shot in the leg three times.

How Far Do You Agree That Hitler’s Regime Was a ‘Consensus...
How far do you agree that Hitler s Regime was a consensus dictatorship ? A consensus dictatorship is on that
suggests Hitler s regime was surrounded by a general agreement. This would mean that the majority of the
German public were in cooperation with the Nazi regime and agreed with both the enforced and promoted concept
of the regime. Hitler had mainly achieved this by trying to win over the hearts and minds of all non Jewish
Germans this would mean he would have the majority of the Germans citizens on his side. However, it is also
suggested that many of the people had only consented due to fear which can be inferred from source 5 that it was
the methods of the Nazi apparatus of terror that had led to the people conforming. ... Show more content on

The public voluntarily had given in the names of Jews to the Nazis due to jealousy and terror imposed on them by
the Nazi s which suggests that the terror apparatus used on civilians was effective and the public were forced to
conform to the dictatorship but overall most people acted towards their own benefit and the countless
denunciations which included false accusations indicate that the regime was a consensus dictatorship. On the other
hand, the opposition faced by the Nazi regime is evidence that the Nazi Regime was not a consented one. In
Source 5 it mentions the political opponents being detained in the concentration camps but even with this sort of
mass terror of demolishing the left there was signs of opposition against the regime. The fact that there were low
level resistance jokes around shows the Nazis were unpopular. People were trying to pick holes in the system
rather than just accept it. People were trying to spread the word. This also indicated the fear people had of Hitler
and it was this fear that forced the people to conform. The Church although having an agreement with Hitler
called the concordat had stood against the regime a number of times. For example, Bishop von Galen of Munster
had stood against the euthanasia programmes. There was also opposition from the youth, an example the swing
kids, they expressed their individuality by wearing their hair long and listened to jazz. But most opposition and
resistance was only involved

Departure, Initiation, and Return in Jorge Luis Borges The Garden of Forking Paths
At first glance, Jorge Luis Borges short story, The Garden of Forking Paths, tells the tale of a Chinese agent for
the Germans against the English during the first World War. In this short story, Yu Tsun (the spy) learns that a
fellow agent has been eliminated. This means that he will undoubtedly be the next to be arrested and killed. This
will probably happen before the end of the day. Yu Tsun has a mission that must be performed: send the name of
the city containing the English air base to Berlin without the message being intercepted before he is captured. Yu

At this moment, the situation seems hopeless; he appears helpless and unable to complete his mission. However,
[s]omething perhaps the mere vain ostentation of proving [his] resources were nil made [him] look through [his]
pockets (264). He finds, among other things, a revolver with one bullet (264). This gives him the idea that a pistol
report can be heard at a great distance (264). The something could be related in a mythological sense to
supernatural aid. While atypical because there is no form (of either flesh or spirit), it is help from a source outside
of his conscious thought (264). He looks in the telephone book for a name and formulates a plan that is not
immediately revealed to the reader. He sets out on his journey and goes to the train station. He gets in his seat and
the train begins to move when he sees [a] man whom [he] recognized running in vain to the end of the platform
(264 265). The man is his pursuer Captain Richard Madden. Yu Tsun is frightened and shrank into the far corner
of the seat, away from the dreaded window (265). On the surface, this may look to be merely a narrow escape, but
a mythological perspective takes a deeper look. This could be viewed as a parallel to crossing the first threshold
and going into the unknown past a hostile guard. In The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Joseph Campbell says that,

My back ached as I kneeled down in the mud pit that wanted to call itself a garden. All it contained was a parched

I pushed the last wheelbarrow full of fruits and vegetables up the driveway and as I walked into our old decrepit
hut. I could feel the tension in the air. Who did this? boomed Ali. Ali knew it wasn t me. In fact, I don t understand
why he would have asked me that, after all, we both knew who it was, but I could tell Ali was trying to find other
options. Although, the better question to ask would be why he did this. I observed Ali, his face showed as much
confusion as a chicken in a pillow factory. Hassan, who did this? His voice bellowed, which gave me a high sense
that he was not ready to forgive this person for what they have done. I stared at him blankly, no words found their
way to my mouth. I didn t know how I felt, surprised? No, I felt betrayed. How could Amir do this, the boy I grew

The Battle Of Santa Rosa Island
After several months of battles between the north and the south in several states, including North Carolina,
Virginia, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee, the war reached Florida in 1861. The first battle to reach Florida
occurred when there was a standoff at Fort Pickens. When Florida seceded from the Union, there were Union
soldiers stationed at Fort Pickens that were asked to surrender. A force of almost 1,000 volunteer soldiers landed
on Santa Rosa Island with the intent of raiding the outlying defenses and camps near Fort Pickens. General
Richard H. Anderson led these soldiers. Mainly the Sixth New York Infantry Regiment defended the forts and
camps. Soon after the Confederates burned and ransacked the Union camp, reinforcements were sent from Fort
Pickens to assist the confused Union soldiers. The Confederates had 18 killed, 39 wounded, and 30 imprisoned
soldiers, while the Union had 14 killed, 29 wounded, and 20 imprisoned. By March 1862, the Confederates
completely withdrew from the area. This battle became known as the Battle of Santa Rosa Island because the
union troops landed on Santa Rosa Island, four miles east of Fort Pickens. Most of the civil war took place in the
states of Virginia and Tennessee but two major battles of and several smaller altercations took place in the state of
Florida. On February 20, 1864 the largest civil war battle in Florida took place near Lake City. This battle
occurred a year after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed and it was

Fast Food Restaurants Are Being Blamed For Obesity Essay
This is an annotated bibliography for research on how fast food restaurants are being blamed for obesity. I am
researching the significance of fast food chains being blamed for obesity rates rising, when we, in fact should be
looking at the individual responsible.
Rice, S., McAllister, E. J., and Dhurandhar, N. V. Fast Food: Friendly? International Journal of Obesity (2007):
pp. 884 86. Academic Search Premier. Web.
In this article published by the International Journal of Obesity, S. Rice, Department of Nutrition and Food
Science, EJ McAllister, Human Nutrition and Food Division, and NV. Dhurandhar, Department of Infections and
Obesity, evaluate the effects of fast food in society. Fast food is vastly blamed for the rising obesity epidemic,
which as discussed in the article is fictional. Depending on the income of a household, the age group of the
consumers, or someone always on the go, fast food is something people rely on every day as their source of food.
This article discusses how fast food is often blamed for obesity, but in fact has little, to nothing to deal with
obesity rates. I will be using this article in my research as a scholarly source to show how obesity rates are not to
be blamed on fast food.

The Digital World Is Affecting Today s Youth
Sandra Boyd analyzes how nearly ubiquitous access to the digital world is affecting today s youth in It s
Complicated. She explains how the app generation is struggling to self identify and successfully leverage the
Internet to be app enabled. Youth s app dependency is a result of access to digital technology and social media at
an early age, and is preventing youth from properly self identifying themselves. This, in turn, is affecting how they
build relationships and how they think creatively. The online community our group has decided to look into is the
PCMasterRace subreddit. This subreddit is a community of PC gamers sharing information about computer
hardware, post creative and visually appealing computer configurations (called builds or rigs ) and post satirical or
funny pictures about trending topics. Reddit provides a platform for people with unique special interests (i.e. PC s)
to communicate and collaborate; it is a place where relationships have the opportunity to be built and where
creative ideas can be expressed openly.
Recently, a major topic of this subreddit has been to help console peasants ascend to the ranks of the PC Master
Race. Console peasants often deny that PCs outrank consoles in terms of performance and ability when gaming
and respond to PCMasterRace commentary by posting nonsense, making claims that playing at suboptimal
graphics settings on their consoles make for a better atmosphere and an overall superior gaming experience.

Tennyson s In Memoriam Essay
Tennyson s In Memoriam
In Memoriam is an elegy to Tennyson s friend Arthur Hallam, but bears the hallmark of its mid nineteenth century
context, the locus classicus of the science and religion debate. Upon reflection, Hallam s tragic death has proved
to be an event that provoked Tennyson s embarkation upon a much more ambitious poetic project than
conventional Miltonian elegy, involving meditation upon the profoundest questions faced by mankind. Scientific
advancements, most notably in the fields of geology and biology, challenged the beliefs that form the foundation
of Christianity: the belief in a beneficent God responsible for creation and ensuing superintendence and the belief
in man s immortal soul. By the mid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are Tennyson?s trip through Hades. By personifying Nature and placing ?her? in opposition to God as a
distinct power, Tennyson seems to imply a polytheistic belief that two, not one, seats of power exist. In these
passages it seems that Tennyson perceives Nature to have greater influence over Earth and mankind. At the close
of LV, God appears as distant and hidden in darkness, leaving man in a state analogous with that of a child ? weak,
vulnerable and desirous of care: he falls ?upon the great world?s altar stairs That slope thro? darkness up to God,?
(lines 14 15). Metaphorically darkness represents the secrecy surrounding God and the answers that he holds, a
motif that is reprised at the close of LVI: ?behind the veil, behind the veil.? The repetition of the clause
emphasises Tennyson?s frustrations. Indeed God seems so distant and hidden that Tennyson?s faith in his
existence is weakened and he is only able to ?feel? and ?faintly trust,? not resolutely know. The lack of conviction
conveyed here through Tennyson?s semantic choices illustrates an emergence of disillusion with eutheistic belief.
The existence of the Christian conception of a loving god is called into question, and it is implicitly asserted that
the conception of Nature conveyed in these passages may be the true, ditheistic, conception of God. That ?of fifty

Alcohol Use, Abuse, And Related Accidents Among College...
Question: Alcohol uses among college students What are the trends in alcohol use, abuse, and related accidents
among college aged women versus men?
Background
National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) defines low risk drinking as less than 4 drinks in a
day.1 On the other hand, binge drinking as a pattern of drinking makes blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level to
0.07h/dL. This level is typically reached after 4 drinks for women and 5 drinks for men in approximately 2 hours.
Drinking level is shown to increase 5 times more of drinking problems at three drinks and greater thereafter.
Negative consequences are more likely to be associated when there are more than three drinks of alcohol
consumption.2
Approximately 40 to 45% of college students in the US report engaging in heavy episodic drinking.3
Consequences of heavy drinking are widespread which include academic problems, unwanted sexual experiences,
physical injuries, and death. A study titled Are Social Norms the Best Predictor of Outcomes among Heavy
Drinking College Students? by Neighbors et al found that social norms were the best predictors of typical weekly
alcohol consumption amongst college students.3 In other words, perceived descriptive norms and approval of
friends were the best predictor of heavy drinking in college years.
Although men reported consistent alcohol consumption per drinking occasion, alcohol consumption among female
college students seem to be increasing nowadays.4 According to

My Antonia Nature Analysis
In My Antonia , nature consistently presents hardships for characters to overcome and also brings forth inspiring
beauty and life within the rural landscape of Nebraska. Throughout the novel, nature plays an important role in
shaping the lives of Jim and Antonia. And through a deeper analysis of how nature causes growth in the lives of
Jim and Antonia via both suffering and beauty, we are able to develop a better understanding of the role of nature
in the novel as a whole.
Throughout the novel, a naturalistic style of writing is evident not only in the vividly detailed depictions of the
Nebraska frontier, but also by how the characters interact with the land in which they live. The common naturalist
theme of man being controlled and at the mercy of nature appears many times throughout the novel, particularly in
the chapters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jim connects with the nurturing power of the summer as he appealingly describes the environment he grew up in,
burning summers when the world lies green and billowy beneath a brilliant sky, when one is fairly stifled in
vegetation, in the color and smell of strong weeds and heavy harvests (Cather 3). Jim even dwells on the idea of
the summer even during the winter, It was as if we were being punished for loving the loveliness of summer
(Cather 136). And with these nostalgic and romanticized views of the moments in the kinder seasons in which
nature in Nebraska is quiet pleasant, inspire Jim and are what keep him wanting to return. Even the literature he
reads at college seems to poke at the fact that Jim longs to be back in Nebraska. This is specifically seen when he
ironically begins to read an instructive poem from the Georgics, written by Virgil about farming, It opened with
the melancholy reflection that, in the lives of mortals the best days are the first to flee (Cather

Starbuck s Objective Reads Analysis
Starbuck s objective reads: In fiscal 2006, we plan to open approximately 1,800 net new stores globally. This goal
is not as specific as it could be. By using the word approximately, they are not stating for sure that they will open
1,800 stores. Depending on your interpretation of approximately, the goal could be 1,500 or 2,000. The goal is
measurable since the company will have record of the number of stores it opened in 2006. Whether or not it is
attainable is dependent on many factor including, but not limited to, financial resources, personnel resources, and
available locations. Assuming that all of these are readily available, Starbucks could reach their goal. Between
2000 and 2005, Starbucks increased the total number of stores from 3,501 to 10,241, an average of 1,348 stores
per year (Starbucks Company Statistics). Their goal of approximately 1,800 stores in 2006 is realistic. Based on
the prior years averages of new stores, setting a goal of one year to achieve the number of stores listed is timely.

Summary Of The Book A Complicated Kindness
Nancy Nguyen ENG 4U1 Ms. Miszczak March 12, 2015 Religious and The Effect of Power in a Small Society
Oscar Wilde once said: Everything in the world is about sex except sex. Sex is about power. Here, he shows his
opinion about the rights between men and women, which means men is the one control the power. As much as
same idea in the novel A Complicated Kindness written by Miriam Toews when women are punished for their
actions, while men are not. A Complicated Kindness is a story of a teenager girl who lives with her father in a very

b) Information Security
Information is a critical strategic asset for organizations. It is the basis of competitive advantage for a company. In
today s business world, information comes in a variety of different forms. As more and more organizations
establish themselves in a dynamic economy and social environment, they begin to recognize the importance of
information in dealing with uncertainty.
In United States, Leidos, a joint spin off of Science Applications International Corporation has included
procurement Integrity and Use of Competitive Information in their directors code of conduct. According to Leidos
s code of conduct, directors should avoid knowingly obtaining bid or proposal‐related information about a

Stock Market Crash Of 1929 Essay
In 1929 America experienced one of the worst and the first crash of the stock market. This also lead to what we
call the great depression, a time of no economic growth, and to make matters worse we also began to go through
the dust bowl times. At that time the market had little to no implemented regulations. President Herbert Hoover at
the time blamed the stock market crash on the lack of regulation. Today, the market has many more regulations
than there were back then. Some people and presidents want less or more regulation on the market. So which is
better? Regulation all the way! Regulation gives increased security, restored trust, political capital, and path
dependency. Well how did the Housing crisis happen in the first place? Well what banks were doing was looking
for fast short term profits. To get these profits banks had to give out sub prime mortgages . Sub prime mortgages
are basically loans given to people who would have a rather hard time paying back the cash. Because of this banks
were able to increase interest rates. When the banks raised the interest rates what they did was create a
hypothetical bubble that was bound to burst. When this happened banks began to fail. ... Show more content on

The Early Modern Era Between The 1500s And The 1800s
The timespan between the 1500s and the 1800s is commonly regarded as the Early Modern Era of European
history. This period directly follows the Middle Ages and ends around the time of the French Revolution, which
thereafter the modern period seemingly begins. This specific era consists of profound and significant
developments in Europe s economic history and here we can see the beginnings of capitalism. This early modern
period experienced important technological advances, the Protestant Reformation and the decline of the Church,
the formation of banking systems and savings, nation state building, mercantilism and the beginnings of
industrialization. The economic ideas that emerged during this period are markedly different and some times at
odds with those that prevailed just right before during the Middle Ages. The early 1500 s began with a burst of
economic activity, which is largely credited to the important technological advances that occurred in Europe
during this time, which then led to relatively rapid economic, social and political changes throughout Europe.
The period preceding the Early Modern Era, the Middle Ages, reflects a society that is much different to the world
we see today. The Middle Ages can be characterized as a decentralized society where the Church held great
influence in both politics, economics and the society as a whole. The economy placed much greater emphasis on
agriculture, with Feudalism as the prevailing system of society. What came with

meaning of paper towns. In addition, the word pseudo has the meaning of fake, which also connects to a fake
town. Margo uses a pseudovision as her hiding spot when she ran away from Orlando, which she calls a paper

Descriptive Adjectives And Dialogue In The Pigman By Paul...
Description begins in the writer s imagination but should end in the reader s. Writing good dialogue is art as well
as craft. Descriptive adjectives really help the readers see what it s like to be in the story and imagine what the
characters look like and feel like at that moment. Dialogue helps the reader see the story from their point of view
and shows us what they think of something else. In the story The Pigman by Paul Zindel, the author uses
descriptive adjectives and dialogue to develop the story. Without descriptive adjectives, the reader won t be able to
see or imagine how the characters look like, how the setting is described and you won t be able to know the
characters emotion. Six feet tall, longish brown hair and blue eyes. As you can see, this helps the readers visualize
how that character looks like so without descriptive adjectives, you wouldn t be able to imagine how the character
looks. He was in his late fifties and was pretty big, and he had a bit of a beer stomach. From this quote you can see
this shows he s old and don t take care of himself as much, so you can see how the character is like and act with
descriptive adjective. At the top of the stairs was this plain old bathroom with a shower curtain that had all kinds
of fish designs on it... The ceiling slanted on the far side, and there was only one window. After looking at this
quote, you can tell that without descriptive adjectives you won t be able to visualize the setting which can connect
to how the characters feel in a way. To break this all down, without descriptive adjectives it would leave us
clueless and confused because we won t know anything about the characters(looks, emotions) and setting which
would make the story perplexing and complicated. Dialogue is important because it helps us see things from the
characters point of view, and we know what they think of something or someone else based on what they say and
think. If Freud smokes, why can t I? Freud doesn t smoke anymore I told him. He s dead. This shows that John is
a witty young man with a strong attitude. So without dialogue you can t really say much about the characters, and
how they re like like it shows in the quote. I m thinking of becoming an

North By Northwest Analysis
The Alfred Hitchcock film, North by Northwest, provides many high anxiety, suspenseful, and dramatic scenes.
The hotel elevator scene, 30 minutes into the film, provides a comedic moment in Roger Thornhill s desperate
attempt to save himself. This scene comes after he and his mother visited the room rented to George Kaplan.
While in the room they received a phone call from the men who are after Kaplan, upon discovering the call came
from the lobby Thornhill and his mother head to the elevators in order to escape before they arrive at the room.
The scene begins with a shot on the elevator, stairs, and a small part of the hallway. This establishing shot sets up
the elevator as the next point of focus. The hallway is included in this shot because as Thornhill and his mother
enter the frame the camera pans with them and tracks in as they head to the elevator entrance. Maintained here is a

different generations having such a hard time understanding each other? And why has Andre written this text?

Case Study of Toshiba Accounting Scandal
Facts
Toshiba s history dates back to 1875 in Japan. For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2015,
Toshiba s net worldwide sales were greater than $63 billion and employed more than 200,000 people worldwide
(Carpenter, 2015). In April of 2015, the company came forth and made an announcement that it was having
accounting problems. However, the severity of the scandal became known early in September 2015 (Addady,
2015). The shares took a dive after the April announcement. In July 2015, CEO Hisao Tanaka resigned after facing
this accounting scandal and was a direct link to $1.2 billion in overstated profits (Carpenter, 2015). Toshiba s first
remedy was a management change. The company overstated its earnings close to $2 billion over the past seven
years (Addady, 2015).
The investigation panel report revealed that the external auditors failed to discover the inappropriate accounting
issues, the involvement of two former CEOs, Atsutoshi Nishida (2005

Explain Why Teenagers Should Not Be Allowed To Vote
On the other hand, others argue that 16 year old shouldn t be allowed to vote because they re too young, don t

rebellious. Crowley and Denver in their study, Votes at 16? The case against note, as Peter the Hermit said in the

implies that teenagers only care about themselves and are very disrespectful to their elders, so how are they

Critique Of Andy Pye s The Internet Of Things
Critique of Andy Pye s The Internet of Things: Connecting the Unconnected
What the Internet of Things is and how it works
The internet of things (IoT) is comparable to the internet in how it provides communication connections over a
large area public network. The internet is used to connect people to each other using device connections to a main
stream network. The IoT is currently a conceptual construct of a network system working as a conduit to serve as
a direct line of communication for multiple electrical operated objects. In theory if an object has an on/off toggle
switch, then the object will eventually be able to be connected to the system. The purpose of the IoT is to provide
a medium to connect electrical devices allowing them to work in unison in effort to improve the efficiency of their
operations. Advanced algorithms drive these devices to complete complex decision making tasks in real time
scenarios to improve the efficiency of their operations (Pye, 2014).
Conceptually the IoT is in the infancy stage, but the foundation for its realization has begun with the development

Cultural Influences On Nutrition
Nutrition
Maria agrees that her culture influences her nutrition intake. She loves to include refried beans, whole grain rice,
and homemade tortillas with every meal prepared. Her family likes to make their own spices instead of buying
them premade off of a grocery shelf. Food and eating connect with her culture, and source of survival/nutrition. A
person needs to eat breakfast, lunch (largest meal), and supper. Each meal will be eaten with family if at home or
together at that moment in time. A healthy diet includes water, vegetables, meats, and calories consumed.
Social Factors
Maria is very socially orientated with her family and friends. She loves to get on Facebook to share her family s
photos and family s accomplishments. Her friends mainly consist of people she sees every Sunday and
Wednesday. She calls her sisters her best friends. She speaks to her sisters, mother, and grandmother at least once
a day. The women are socially connected on a deeper level than the men. All family members will be present
when a relative is sick, and supportive in any way possible. At the end of the day, health care decisions are made
as one by the whole family. There is no influence from any cultural organizations that keep them from receiving
health care.
Religious Factors
Spirituality is a factor when it comes to health and illness. Jesus Christ is the ultimate healer. If a relative does not
live a religious life with the Lord, they are looked at as spiritually weak or ill. It is said if one does not believe or
attempt a relationship with God, trials and tribulations will be coming there way. Religion is a key factor when it
comes to health and illnesses. Prayers to the Lord will work in a way heal the problem that day or 15 years down
the road. Patience is a key when talking to the Lord, also. Things he might do at that moment of the day may not
be in your favor, but in the end, you will be rewarded.
Disease Incidence
Diabetes and uncontrolled high blood pressure are common in the Hispanic culture. The common illnesses come
from a failure to watch the nutritional intake. Alcoholism is a common addiction in her culture. A beer or shot of
tequila is common to consume once a day. Maria believes the Hispanic culture has

At Mornington, A Poem by Gwen Harwood
Memorable ideas are evident in Harwood s poetry. In her poem, At Mornington , she considers the philosophical
idea that the passing of time leads to gaining of wisdom. Harwood shows that growth and development are a
critical part of defining our individuality. She has effectively used poetic techniques such as construction; vivid
imagery and the context of her own life to explore this idea and contributed to the textual integrity of the piece.
External contextual readings and values of the poem have illuminated the significance of the piece in asserting the
value of friendship and relationships, and presented various ideas such as the inevitability of death, the
significance that past events and memories play in shaping present perception as well as the defining of
individuality through growth and development. Together, this contributes to the memorability of the poem. At
Mornington is variant in structure; it is linear, circular and episodic, containing recurring motifs. The lack of a
rhyme scheme displays the train of thought nature of the poem, presenting the poem as a reflective journey for the
persona. Experiences with family and friends are tied with the poem, starting with a first witnessing of the sea and
then introspectively reflecting on water, memory and death. The episodic recollection of the sea displays the
personas reliance on memories to convey changes in perspective. Thoughts of mortality are developed during a
meeting among avenues of the dead with

When Federico Garcia Lorca talked about his new play, The House of Bernarda Alba, he said that it was pure realism and did not have a drop of poetry in it, however if you look closely you can see expressionism elements. The tragedy of the play has been emphasised by symbolism and imagery to help the unfolding of his tragic tale by presenting the fears, the fact that They ve been robbed of the capacity of hope and tensions of all the characters; showing the bleak ending for the girls. This symbolism is rather tragic in a way as everyone knows that white does not stay clean forever. The colour white also emphasises the colour black which the family are forced to wear by Bernarda: keep your mourning clothes on your backs . The symbolic use of black reminds the audience of just how long Bernarda s daughters will have to endure the mourning of Antonio Maria Benavides and how much it will affect them. On the other hand the traditional colour the black stand for is death, and there is an abundance of that in this play. At the end of Act Two there is a women who has had a bastard baby and Bernarda reacts in a horrible was Let any woman who drags her honour in the dirt pay the price . This could foreshadow what is going to happen to Adela as she has dragged her honour in the dirt . Also there is a question at weather she is pregnant: clutching herself . This could show that Adela is pregnant and that she sympathises with the women who is being tortured. In a way Bernarda is sentencing these girls to life of solitude and unhappiness and Adela also selfishly prolongs this by killing herself. Through the introduction of vaccines, medicines, and other medical equipment, the scientific world has prevented the spread of diseases, the possibility of an epidemic, and another devastating pandemic in history like the black plague. Although vaccines provide a resistance to diseases, many people question the safety of them. There is a famous theory that vaccines cause autism due to the chemicals within the vaccines, even though scientific evidence denies any connection. One of the reasons that this theory still exists is due to the portrayal of information from the media. Based on the opinion of the media outlet, the depiction of the vaccine autism link changes throughout society. The media is typically the main source of information for citizens, whether they watch a news channel, read a newspaper, check online newspapers, or listen to the radio, these news outlet supply our population with the basis of knowledge on all topics. Not many people in this audience will conduct their own research, this means that the original data and information is usually summarized and changed to fit the opinion of the media outlet. • 5. The Law On Attempt Offences The law on attempt offence is one of three principal crimes linked with inchoate offences the two other key ones being incitement and conspiracy. This essay will however only be focusing on and assessing the law on attempt offences. Attempt crimes can be classified in two different ways: the first one being when the original plan of a crime fails to succeed as consequence of an unforeseen factor. The second being when the bringing about of a crime fails due to a mistake from the offender s side. Both categories involve the perpetrator having taken actual steps towards committing the crime, but it failing for unexpected reasons. Simply put any attempt to bring about a crime is a crime in itself. This all sounds straightforward but in reality, it is far more complicated as what seems per instance, how do you go about, and why, at all, can someone be punished for a crime which was not even successfully committed those are questions worth asking. The reason that the conviction of an attempt crime is possible has to do with the fact that the accused has done their best in bringing about the crime. Ergo the mens rea was present, and it was merely external factors that prevented the crime from happening. Thus, the accused can still, and is still seen as a danger to society. Secondly, one should bear in mind that if this kind of interference was not possible, it would be virtually impossible for law enforcement to intervene in crimes that were at the early stages of ... On the other hand, the opposition faced by the Nazi regime is evidence that the Nazi Regime was not a consented one. In Source 5 it mentions the political opponents being detained in the concentration camps but even with this sort of mass terror of demolishing the left there was signs of opposition against the regime. The fact that there were low level resistance jokes around shows the Nazis were unpopular. People were trying to pick holes in the system rather than just accept it. At the close of LV, God appears as distant and hidden in darkness, leaving man in a state analogous with that of a child ? weak, vulnerable and desirous of care: he falls ?upon the great world?s altar stairs That slope thro? darkness up to God,? (lines 14 15). Metaphorically darkness represents the secrecy surrounding God and the answers that he holds, a motif that is reprised at the close of LVI: ?behind the veil, behind the veil.? The repetition of the clause emphasises Tennyson?s frustrations. Indeed God seems so distant and hidden that Tennyson?s faith in his existence is weakened and he is only able to ?feel? and ?faintly trust,? not resolutely know. The lack of conviction conveyed here through Tennyson?s semantic choices illustrates an emergence of disillusion with eutheistic belief. By using the word approximately, they are not stating for sure that they will open 1,800 stores. Depending on your interpretation of approximately, the goal could be 1,500 or 2,000. The goal is measurable since the company will have record of the number of stores it opened in 2006. Whether or not it is attainable is dependent on many factor including, but not limited to, financial resources, personnel resources, and available locations. Assuming that all of these are readily available, Starbucks could reach their goal. Between 2000 and 2005, Starbucks increased the total number of stores from 3,501 to 10,241, an average of 1,348 stores per year (Starbucks Company Statistics). Their goal of approximately 1,800 stores in 2006 is realistic. Based on the prior years averages of new stores, setting a goal of one year to achieve the number of stores listed is timely. The goal of Walgreens is Second is to hire a significant number of people with disabilities in our South Carolina distribution center, scheduled to open in 2007, and achieve 20% productivity gains there. Summary Of The Book A Complicated Kindness Nancy Nguyen ENG 4U1 Ms. Miszczak March 12, 2015 Religious and The Effect of Power in a Small Society Oscar Wilde once said: Everything in the world is about sex except sex. Sex is about power. Here, he shows his opinion about the rights between men and women, which means men is the one control the power. A Complicated Kindness is a story of a teenager girl who lives with her father in a very religious town, where most of people s career are killing chicken in a factory. This also lead to what we call the great depression, a time of no economic growth, and to make matters worse we also began to go through the dust bowl times. At that time the market had little to no implemented regulations. President Herbert Hoover at the time blamed the stock market crash on the lack of regulation. Today, the market has many more regulations than there were back then. Some people and presidents want less or more regulation on the market. So which is better? Regulation all the way! Regulation gives increased security, restored trust, political capital, and path dependency. Well how did the Housing crisis happen in the first place? Well what banks were doing was looking for fast short term profits. To get these profits banks had to give out sub prime mortgages . • 30. The Early Modern Era Between The 1500s And The 1800s The timespan between the 1500s and the 1800s is commonly regarded as the Early Modern Era of European history. This period directly follows the Middle Ages and ends around the time of the French Revolution, which thereafter the modern period seemingly begins. This specific era consists of profound and significant developments in Europe s economic history and here we can see the beginnings of capitalism. This early modern period experienced important technological advances, the Protestant Reformation and the decline of the Church, the formation of banking systems and savings, nation state building, mercantilism and the beginnings of industrialization. The economic ideas that emerged during this period are markedly different and some times at odds with those that prevailed just right before during the Middle Ages. The early 1500 s began with a burst of economic activity, which is largely credited to the important technological advances that occurred in Europe during this time, which then led to relatively rapid economic, social and political changes throughout Europe. The period preceding the Early Modern Era, the Middle Ages, reflects a society that is much different to the world we see today. The Middle Ages can be characterized as a decentralized society where the Church held great influence in both politics, economics and the society as a whole. The economy placed much greater emphasis on agriculture, with Feudalism as the prevailing system of society. What came with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Descriptive Adjectives And Dialogue In The Pigman By Paul... Description begins in the writer s imagination but should end in the reader s. Writing good dialogue is art as well as craft. Descriptive adjectives really help the readers see what it s like to be in the story and imagine what the characters look like and feel like at that moment. Dialogue helps the reader see the story from their point of view and shows us what they think of something else. In the story The Pigman by Paul Zindel, the author uses descriptive adjectives and dialogue to develop the story. Without descriptive adjectives, the reader won t be able to see or imagine how the characters look like, how the setting is described and you won t be able to know the characters emotion. Six feet tall, longish brown hair and blue eyes. As you can see, this helps the readers visualize how that character looks like so without descriptive adjectives, you wouldn t be able to imagine how the character looks. He was in his late fifties and was pretty big, and he had a bit of a beer stomach. From this quote you can see this shows he s old and don t take care of himself as much, so you can see how the character is like and act with descriptive adjective. At the top of the stairs was this plain old bathroom with a shower curtain that had all kinds of fish designs on it... The ceiling slanted on the far side, and there was only one window. After looking at this quote, you can tell that without descriptive adjectives you won t be able to visualize the setting which can connect to how the characters feel in a way. To break this all down, without descriptive adjectives it would leave us clueless and confused because we won t know anything about the characters(looks, emotions) and setting which would make the story perplexing and complicated. Dialogue is important because it helps us see things from the characters point of view, and we know what they think of something or someone else based on what they say and think. If Freud smokes, why can t I? Freud doesn t smoke anymore I told him. He s dead. This shows that John is a witty young man with a strong attitude. Critique Of Andy Pye s The Internet Of Things Critique of Andy Pye s The Internet of Things: Connecting the Unconnected What the Internet of Things is and how it works The internet of things (IoT) is comparable to the internet in how it provides communication connections over a large area public network. The internet is used to connect people to each other using device connections to a main stream network. The IoT is currently a conceptual construct of a network system working as a conduit to serve as a direct line of communication for multiple electrical operated objects. In theory if an object has an on/off toggle switch, then the object will eventually be able to be connected to the system. The purpose of the IoT is to provide a medium to connect electrical devices allowing them to work in unison in effort to improve the efficiency of their operations. Advanced algorithms drive these devices to complete complex decision making tasks in real time scenarios to improve the efficiency of their operations (Pye, 2014). Conceptually the IoT is in the infancy stage, but the foundation for its realization has begun with the development of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This upgrade from the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) corrects the issue of limited Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses. By expanding the number of IP addresses available it ensures new objects will be able to connect and communicate over the vast network (Pye, 2014). Each meal will be eaten with family if at home or together at that moment in time. A healthy diet includes water, vegetables, meats, and calories consumed. Social Factors Maria is very socially orientated with her family and friends. She loves to get on Facebook to share her family s photos and family s accomplishments. Her friends mainly consist of people she sees every Sunday and Wednesday. She calls her sisters her best friends. She speaks to her sisters, mother, and grandmother at least once a day. The women are socially connected on a deeper level than the men. All family members will be present when a relative is sick, and supportive in any way possible. At the end of the day, health care decisions are made as one by the whole family. There is no influence from any cultural organizations that keep them from receiving health care.
