2. IntroductionIntroduction
 What is Solid Waste?
“ Solid waste can be regarded as refuse or waste from any kind
of source”. But any refuse or waste can be economic
resource to others.
 Bacground of the Problem:
Solid Waste has been identified as one of the key global
problems today that is at the root cause of;
• disease
• food insecurity
• malnutrition.

3. Objective and Duration
 Starting up a decentralized solid waste management (SWM)
 Improving the local environment and offering continuous development
 After an initial period of 24 months, the project will be handed over to
the local government
 Some of the most important development goals highlighted Plan
(2015-17) are as follows:
 Collection and disposal of existing waste littered throughout the
project area
 Reduction of poverty by involving waste managment process
 Public participation
 Collection and transportation of solid waste
 More support gathered in tree growing activities
 People have learned proper disposal of solid waste and initiated to
clean up their surroundings.

Traditional Project Management Approach
I would like to use a traditional approach, unfolding in the following
sequence. Subtasks are identified in the table below.

• Preparation of all the planning and process documents
described in this proposal,
• confirmation and completion of initial project design.

10. Composting
 It is a process in which organic matter of solid waste is
decomposed and converted to humus and mineral
compounds.
 Three methods of composting:
(a) Composting by trenching
(b) Open windrow composting
(c) Mechanical composting

11. Incineration
 Incineration of waste materials converts the waste into ash, flue
gas, and heat.

12. Landfilling
 A landfill site is a site for the disposal of waste materials by burial and
is the oldest form of waste treatment.

13. Pyrolysis
 Heating of the solid waste at very high temp. in absence of air.

14. Recycling
 Recycling is processing used materials into new products.
