Perils Of Knowledge In Frankenstein
The Perils of Knowledge Ever since man stepped foot on Earth, the search for knowledge has been
neverending. Within the past few centuries, man reached new heights never before dreamed of
when it came to information and inventions. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein embodies this quest for
intellect. Victor Frankenstein, the main character, sets off on a journey to acquire as much education
as possible, but by doing so ends up creating a shockwave of various effects. Thus, Frankenstein
displays how the obsessive pursuit of and acquirement of knowledge leads to extraordinary
accomplishments, such as new technology and inventions. However, at the same time, this impulse
spurs nefarious actions and consequences. Victor Frankenstein is the first character in the novel. His
life starts in a wealthy and noble family and after some time decides to attend the University of
Ingolstadtto study sciences. Victor becomes so obsessed with his studies that the stars often
appeared in the light of morning whilst I was yet engaged in my laboratory , (30). Studying night
and day, Victor eventually made some discoveries in the improvement of some chemical
instruments , a contribution that undoubtedly led to improvements in the science and medical
aspects of the 19th century (31). However, the main focus of Victor s compulsive studies comes
later in the novel when he creates the creature. He grasped for the idea of creating a living human
frame from scratch: a concept that had never tested

Italian Literature Paper. “It Is Not Possible To Sink Lower
Italian Literature Paper It is not possible to sink lower than this; no human condition is more
miserable than this, nor could it conceivably be so (Levi 1238). This quote comes from Primo
Levi s story On the Bottom , where the audience gets a view of the vile and unspeakable event
known today as the Holocaust. This event influenced Italian literature, taught people a great deal
about the jewish culture, and showed people the true evil in history. To begin, the Jewish faith is
one of the oldest major religions and the first to believe in one God. The religion itself originated
with the Hebrew people of the middle east, and it is based on God, Torah, and Israel. Jewish people

Rosh Ha Shannah is the Jewish New Year, that celebrates the creation of the world and God s rule
over it. This is one of the holiest days of the year for the Jews, along with Yom Kippur. One of the
many examples of Jewish customs are the dietary laws. These can be found in Leviticus and
Deuteronomy. Any Jew who chooses to follow these rules, do not eat pork or shellfish such as
shrimp or oysters. Meat and milk products are stored separately and are not served at the same
meal. They refrain from eating any milk products for several hours after eating meat. Meat killed
from a ritual slaughter known as Shehitah is the only meat they are allowed to eat. At the age of
13 boys and girls are to fulfill a religious obligation through the Bar MItzvah (Bat Mitzvah for
girls). This is a ceremony in which they are recognized as adults responsible for fulfilling the
obligations of Judaism (Magid). At the same time the Jewish faith was developing, so was Italian
literature. Italian literature was greatly influenced by a movement known as futurism during the
1900 s. Language and metaphors glorified the violence of the time period. Themes with problems
of personal identity and absurdity of reality were common (Cherchi). After World War II ended, a
variety of different literary styles emerged. This included magical realism, absurd plays, and protest
literature. Each new type of literature shared an aesthetic that became postmodernism. This was a

Compare And Contrast The Raven And The Nightmare Before...
What is common between most horror films and texts? They all use similar types of codes and
conventions. These codes and conventions differ between genre and can be easily identified. These
also reflect the values of the audience they are intended for. The 1993 stop motion animated film,
The Nightmare Before Christmas , directed by Henry Selick, and the 1845 poem, The Raven ,
written by Edgar Allan Poe, are both a part of the horror genre, as they follow the codes and
conventions of that genre. They use similar visuals, sounds, characterisation, and themes. Using
these and other conventions, audiences can identify a genre, which influences their opinions and
feelings about the genre.
Visuals are the most common way of identifying a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sound is extremely important in films, and the types of sound used differ between genre. Sound is
important in all films. Without sound, films do not possess as much power compared to if they did
have sound. In The Nightmare Before Christmas , multiple soundtracks are used throughout the film
. Two fantastic soundtracks in the film are This is Halloween and The Oogie Boogie Song . Both
use orchestral instruments and the lyrics are sung with deep voices. Diegetic sounds used in these
soundtracks and throughout the film include bats squeaking, bugs crawling, and pumpkin heads
being chopped off using a large metal blade. The effect of sounds, including soundtracks, is to
enhance the feeling experienced from the visuals. Deep voices and multiple orchestral instruments
create suspense and fear. As the music crescendos, the suspense increases as well. Loud, sudden
sounds like a scream or crash create sudden fright. Using different sounds, films are more exciting
and can be used to determine a genre.
In texts and films, one or more themes are used, and specific themes are conventional to different
genres. A commonly used theme in the horror genre is insanity, which is easily identifiable in The
Raven . In the poem, the narrator dreamt of things, smelt perfumes coming from an unseen censer ,
and even started shouting at the raven which sat still just above his chamber door. He kept asking
questions to the raven, but

The Prospect Park Lake
The Prospect Park lake is the only one of its kind in Brooklyn. It is man made and roughly 60
acres (equivalent to 45 football fields!). It is located in the southern section of the park near the
Parkside Avenue entrances and between Prospect Park West and Ocean Avenue.
An intricate system of ponds and ravines keep the lake filled with water. The park s designers,
Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux (also designers of Manhattan s Central Park), realized
that there were several natural ponds in the higher mid section of the park.
Consequently, Olmsted and Vaux engineered a ravine that would carry water downhill from these
ponds over a series of mini waterfalls and into the lake.
The lake is about 7 feet deep and is home to 20 species of

Anti-Money Laundering And Counter-Terrorism Financing

How does money laundering work in theory?
There are normally three steps in the ML process:
1.Placement This is where the money originated from an illegal source is introduced into the
financial system. This may be by way of depositing it into a bank account or by converting it into
diamonds, gold or other assets that can then be sold.
2.Layering This is where the money from an illegal source is dispersed and disguised through a
series of transactions or moved several times from its origin in order to hide any audit trail. This
may involve the use of multiple banks and accounts in difference names, then transact through
intermediaries, corporations and trusts.
3.Integration This is where, after distancing the money from any criminal association, that money is
integrated back into the economy. This may be by investment in property developments or similar
activities. At this stage, the illegal money has achieved the appearance of legitimacy.

Differences Between Han China And Gupta India
During the years 320 BCE and 550 CE, two civilizations coexisted, Han China and Gupta India;
both civilizations developed in Eurasia. Han China and Gupta India, both focused their religious
views on the mandate of heaven. The political system of Han China is similar to that of Gupta
India, in that both included strict laws and stressed the importance of your role in society. Han China
and Gupta India also used hierarchy and bureaucracy as their political control. A major difference
between these administrations is that in Han China the emperor was fully in charge, even
revered, while in Gupta India priests were at the top of the hierarchy. Han China and Gupta India
both had an idea of hierarchy social structure. However, the Gupta s social hierarchy was based on

Postmodernism vs. Marxism Essay
Postmodernism vs. Marxism
Postmodernism is perhaps the most difficult thing to define at this point in time. That is in large
part due to the fact that we are currently still in the movement, political view, or economy (to
classify postmodernism as only one of the above is to have already defeated your definition). One
of the few things that have been empirically proven is that it indeed focuses on culture. Jameson
once argued that postmodernism was a more of a cultural dominant than anything else (Storey, p.
184). This would tend to classify postmodernism as an assimilation of all cultures, with a survival
of the fittest effect. Take for example the effects of one culture, regardless of that culture s size, on
mass culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Postmodernism succeeded modernism as the dominant form of culturalism. Modernism began
around the turn of the nineteenth century, when science began to rear its ugly side. The renaissance
saw the birth of science; a study that would further mankind s search for truth. The 1900s saw the
first use use of science to eliminate life. This shockwave that hit most Western cultures (including a
few Asian cultures) started a general distrust of science. The French filmmaker Godard was one of
the first filmmakers that was truly a modernist. Godard used many tactics to reproach the science
reliant society that had been growing for the past several centuries. The self consciousness of
Godard s films forbids the viewer from ever becoming completely sutured into the narrative
(Aumont, p. 220). It is as if Godard is constantly reminding the viewer that film is nothing more
than a construct of mankind, twenty four frames of static motion per second. Soon after the
modernist movement began cultures around the world started to question why it was that they had
adapted a new form of living; curious if it had been a choice or an imposition. While not all
countries, such as the Philippines, China, Columbia, etc... had experienced an industrial revolution,
most countries of the First world had. At the same time that the modernist movement was ceasing
to exist, roughly the mid twentieth century, the Frankfurt

History of China is a long and complex. China is a country of tremendous importance. From the
origins of the Chinese Empire, all the way to the present day, China has been one of the most
innovative, influential, and powerful countries in the world. China in particular has an incredibly

The track deals with the aftermath of a death of a friend and the pain that comes with it. With such a
personal story like this, an intimate connection between the singer and audience is developed. The
lines, Wishing I was someone else/ Feeling sorry for myself/ And I remembered someone s kid is
dead hit you with with reality and are possibly the most powerful on the whole record. Some of
the tracks make you wonder if the twenty two year old singer songwriter is okay and for me it
was Killer . The main theme of the song is about the lack of control people have over others and
the loneliness felt when feelings are not reciprocated by those we love. Two tracks on the album
contain a more upbeat instrumental sound compared to the rest. The faster tempo and electric
guitar heard in Motion Sickness and the duet with Conor Oberst in Would You Rather are
probably the most cheerfully arranged on the record and stand out in contrast to the slower
paced piano ballad, guitar plucking, and acoustic songs like Georgia , Demi Moore , and Scott
Street . The authenticity in Stranger in the Alps proves Bridgers integrity as a songwriter. Her
somber lyrics combined with beautiful melodies truly make this record stand out, especially as a
debut. This darker folk rooted album is just in time for the depressing months of fall and winter, so
stock up on tissues. I m looking forward to see what Phoebe Bridgers comes out with next, but in

The Roman Catholic Church Responded Treatment
The Roman Catholic Church responded treatment of Luther, Huguenots in France, relationship with
the Holy Roman Emperor, the Jesuits and the Council of Trent, treatment of Galileo and other

driving out hundreds of thousands of his best citizens abroad. The monks at Cluny were
challenging the power of the Holy Roman Emperor, there was also the idea of separation of
church and state. By 1050, King Henry III appointed the Pope he liked which was Clement II.
After his death the archbishops were able to elect the Pope. Henry IV had a serious threat to his
stability. He made his bishops swear loyalty to him. When Gregory excommunicated Henry he
begged for forgiveness and he got it; after Henry was back to placing bishops, he was
excommunicated again. The Germans were eager to see a weakened king siding with the church.

The Use Of Darkness In The Night By Arthur Miller
Darkness is hardly ever seen as a positive entity. Children are taught to fear the dark, that
monsters lie in the absence of light. Darkness is a powerful image that authors use to their
advantage in building up the scene and mood within their writing. Arthur Miller is no exception.
He uses the contrast of dark and light to build up suspense and mood. He is also able to
foreshadow the upcoming events with the use of night. To start, the play opens up with the
scene of Paris accusing Abigail of being in the woods late in the night, [ find quote] This use of
darkness symbolizes the sinister act of witchcraft. The effect of these actions results in Betty
lying in bed, sick. She supposedly cannot move and is despondent. She s been like this since
midnight, Then why can she not move herself since midnight? (pg.10) It s almost as if the
bleeding darkness is also at fault for Betty s illness, that it isn t just witchcraft that ails her.
Darkness is further diminished when the image of light comes to make an appearance. In the
play, light is seen as something holy. Hale equates light to God s holiness and sees it as a way to
purify Tituba, ... open yourself and let God s holy light shine on you. (pg.45) In addition, the dark
also is a foreshadowing element. In the beginning of Act II, the scene is set at the Proctor s house
in the night. What keeps you so late? It s almost dark. (pg.49) The mood between the two
characters, John Proctor and his wife, Elizabeth is harsh,

Trust Definition Essay
What is the meaning of trust? What does it take for a person to fully, unconditionally trust a
person? What can that person do, to change, for you to trust them? Merriam Webster s Dictionary
defines Trust as; the belief that someone or something is reliable, good, honest, effective, etc. And I
believe trustis the number one key in healthy relationships. For others, especially in my story, I am
still trying to understand their warped definition of that fantastic word, trust.
My story originates from a few weeks ago, August 19th, 2015 to be exact. I am relaxing at home,
vigorously going through all of my new books for school, and making sure my book bag is neat
and orderly.
All of a sudden, the phone rings. On the other line, it is my good friend, my mentor, Police
Officer Steel. Good afternoon, Geneva, how are you? , she says. I am doing great Officer Steel,
what may I help you with today? She goes on to say, Well, I know your mother wouldn t be apart

How Television Programs Can Support And Facilitate Word...
Introduction
For many years, parents have relied on using educational programs to teach and engage their
children with new concepts and materials. Conversely, many children have also used television as
an opportunity for learning and language development. For example, the rise of television programs
like Elmo Street and Teletubbies demonstrates this upward trend of substituting media sources for
teaching and learning. However, despite the increasing support from parents toward television
programs, many researchers have mixed reviews on putting our children into viewing long hours
of what they considered unnecessary learning. Thus in what follows of this paper, I will focus on
explaining how television programs can support and facilitate word development. Moreover, I
will also discuss the mixed literacy support for using television as a learning tool and finally, I will
conduct a study that measures, specifically, the relationship between watching educational TV and
learning novel words. Hopefully, with these measures, I will be able to find supporting evidence
that proves educational TV can be a good predictor for word learning.
Throughout the years, one continuous point of debate has been whether educational TV can
facilitate and improve word learning in children. Many studies on this debate have found distinct
and mixed research outcomes. For example, one study has been Mabel s Rice Word from Sesame
Street, in which he found mixed supporting evidence that television

Naloxone Essay
To help with the quick admission, intranasal administration is a convenience to those who have to
administer Naloxone because intranasal Naloxone has a preset dosage. While intranasal Naloxone
is easier to administer, intravenous and intramuscular Naloxone administrators have a choice on the
dose to give. Advanced EMTs have enough knowledge to choose the dose of Naloxoneto give the
patient to keep the patient alive. Intranasal was not approved until November of 2015 when the
FDA approved a highly concentrated spray form of Naloxone (Strang et al. 576). Intranasal
administration only allows one dose to be given compared to Intravenous administration which
allows a more adjusted dosage of Naloxone to be given. According to Ott, an... Show more content

Intravenous Naloxone reaches the brain two minutes faster than intranasal Naloxone, which could
be the difference between life or death. However, through an I.V., 100% of Naloxone reaches the
brain. On the other hand, Strang, McDonald, Tas, and Day discovered that when intranasal
Naloxone is not administered at a 90 degree angle or the nasal cavity is blocked with vomit,
Naloxone gathers at the back of the throat and is swallowed by the Naloxone recipient (576). This
means that when intranasal Naloxone is administered, Naloxone has to be administered repeatedly
to fully reverse opioid overdose. Often times, intranasal Naloxone is followed by administration of
intravenous or intramuscular Naloxone. While using intravenous and intramuscular administration,
there is no way to slow the absorption of Naloxone.
Nevertheless, several studies have shown that intranasal Naloxone absorbs in the same amount of
time as intravenous Naloxone when the administrator accounts for the time Naloxone takes for an
I.V. to be placed. Granted the absorption rate is slower for intranasal admission versus intravenous,
the nasal route still has a valuable blood supply allowing Naloxone to be absorbed efficiently
(Robison and Wermeling 2131). Intranasal administration is effective enough to reverse drug
overdose. Intranasal administration can be repeated every three minutes and last for 180 minutes
while intravenous Naloxone

The Goal Of The Physical Education Teacher
Mismatch between What is Taught and What is Needed for Careers
The goal of the physical education teacher education curriculum is to train teachers who can
provide effective teaching and produce learning outcomes in children. However, when it comes to
train preservice teachers, there is no consistent curriculum across the programs in the U.S. It
depends on the interests and abilities of teacher educators and to the demands of the institutions in
which they serve (Locke, Mand, Sidentop, 1981). This disciplinary debates about what to teach has
been continued since 1964 initiated by Henry (Collier, 2006).

This occurred in 2008, but in 2009 in accordance to her will, the hospital received a money
donation from her estate. This $1,000,000 donation is noted as an unrestricted donation (Apollo
Group, 2006). This unrestricted donation is recorded on the Interim Statement of Income in
December 2009 (Apollo Group, 2006). Declines in the stock market and real estate markets
resulted in a sharp drop in the return on investment income. This caused PFCH to reassess the
value of its investments and, on their auditors advice, to write down those assets (Apollo Group,
2006, p. 3). Another reason the number were so drastically different was because every
December Patton Fuller Community Hospital conducts an annual inventory (Apollo Group,
2006). When the hospital conducted its inventory their expenses for their supplies were way
underestimated by about a million dollars (Apollo Group, 2006). So this had to be added on as a
cost to December s statement. This underestimate of supply expenses made January to November
s reports not correct, so December had to report the actual figures (Apollo Group, 2006).
Therefore, December looked like it was a crazy month for the hospital. Following the favorable
settlement of some managed care contract disputes, net patient revenue increased by 9% over the
previous year, with an average

DELEGATED PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT: A SURVEY OF THE THEORETICAL
LITERATURE
Livio Stracca European Central Bank
Abstract. This paper provides a selective review of the theoretical literature on
delegated portfolio management as a principal agent relationship. The main focus of the paper is to
review the analytical issues raised by the peculiar nature of the delegated portfolio management
relationship within the broader class of principal agent models. In particular, the paper discusses the
performance of linear versus nonlinear compensation contracts in a single period setting, the
possible effects of limited liability of portfolio managers, the role of reputational concerns in a
multiperiod framework, and the incentives to noise trading. ... Show more content on

Nonetheless, the outcome does not depend only on the agent s effort, but also on environmental
factors outside his control. The task of the landlord is to design a contract which encourages the
best tenants to participate and, at the same time, gives the tenant the right incentives to work hard
to achieve the result after the contract is signed. If the agent is risk neutral, the best contract makes
the agent the residual claimant of the contract and the principal is paid a flat fee by the agent.
These performancerelated contracts normally ensure that good agents enter the contract and
charlatans are left out, and at the same time provide the best incentives to the agent for expending
costly effort. Moreover, if the principal is risk averse, the contract is also optimal for him from the
standpoint of risk minimization. If, more realistically, the agent is risk averse and has no access to
credit markets on the same terms as the principal, there is an obvious trade off between inducing
effort (which requires the agent to be exposed to the risky outcome) and providing insurance (which
goes in the opposite direction). For this situation, the literature has reached two main results. First,
it may be convenient for the principal to isolate the agent

In 1949, the Fitzegerald Commission into the Collery trouble articulated the idea of public
corporation. This concept was borrowed from the British labour party rationalisation of British coal
in 1947, electricity in 1949 (Tukunboh, 1990). Subsequently, in 1950s the following public
corporations were established in Nigeria: Nigeria Coal Corporation; Electricity Corporation;
Nigeria Cement Company, Nkalagu; Nigerian Railway Corporation, and Nigerian Port Authority.
All these corporations were managed by Boards. Since then more corporations have been
established based on national interest. Some state governments have also established public
corporations to actualise their developmental interests.
The term public service can be conceptualized in two ways. First it refers to the body of officials
that are involved in the administration of the agencies, services, programmes and policies of the
public sector. That is, the public servants that manage the entirety of public services. In the second
sense, the concept refers to the organizations, agencies, structures, departments and units which are
charged with and involved in public or governmental tasks, activities and functions. These include
the Civil Service, Commissions, Boards, Directorates, Parastatals, etc that are publicly owned,
funded and directed (Ikelegbe, 1995). The public service as established by

(Figure 1) 2.2 Data Mining TechniquesThe Weka software package (Hall et al., 2009) was used
to implement the four classical data mining methods: multilayer perceptrons, K nearest neighbor,
REPTree, and random forest. The linear regression was used as the reference method to predict
the nitrate concentrations in a multiyear time series. 2.2.1 Multilayer Perceptrons (MLP)
Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) is an artificial neural network that learns nonlinear function
mappings. An MLP can be viewed as a logistic regression classifier where the input is first
transformed using a learned non linear transformation. This transformation projects the input data
into space where it becomes linearly separable. This intermediate layer is referred to as a hidden
layer. A single hidden layer is sufficient to make MLPs a universal approximator. Formally, a one
hidden layer MLP is a function f: RD→ RL, where D is the size of input vector x and L is the size
of the output vector f(x), such that, in matrix notation: (Equation 1) with bias vectors , weight

The concept of self advocacy also can be expressed in the student s selection of short term and long

courses but also how courses go hand in hand with the selection of his/her postsecondary
environment (2 or 4 year college, vocational setting, military, or straight into employment) and

internal motivation (student achieving satisfaction from the action), the student must have vested

skill that will be accomplished by the action. They break the motivation intertwined

How The Marine Resource Exploitation Is Essential For...
The importance of having access to waterways is essential for early settlement of citizens and
for military purposes. This dependent resource provides a more efficient transportation route as
well as access to marine resources such as fishing. Fish also became a source of protein diet and
economic trade values in both Chinese and Japanese cultures. In this essay, I will be using the
Pseudosciaena crocea also known as the Yellow croaker as my example.1 Yellow croaker got
their name from the noises that they make during the spawning season.2 I will also be addressing
the problem of overfishing and environmental consequences that arise. By analyzing the patterns
of ecological transformations within fishing disputes between China and Japan, we can see how
marine resource exploitation becomes a motivation to strengthen each perspective s nation state.
Japan has one of the longest histories of hunting gatherer societies in East Asia. Dating back to
the Jomon, their diets included a board range of plant, animal, and marine foods.3 The remains of
the salmon bones show that this fish was exploited from as early as the Incipient phase. Fast
forward to the Yayoi period, rice, without a doubt, was the most important crop, but barley, millet,
and other cultivated and wild plants were also consumed in large quantities.4 Others such as
domesticated pigs and chicken are known from Yayoi contexts but were still unclear whether or
not it was used a food resource. Deer, wild boars, and fish

What Does It Mean To Be A Good Girl
Growing up I was often told what it means to be a good girl...
A good girl doesn t wear make up.
A good girl doesn t date.
A good girl doesn t argue with anyone.
A good girl sits home, doesn t talk much, and accepts what her family says.
A good girl does not have an opinion.
In Afghanistan a good girl enters her husband s house in a white dress and leaves in a white
shroud. A shroud is something one wears after death. Meaning that a good girl is to tolerate
anything. Whether its abuse or just an unhappy marriage because she is a good girl the only
time she will leave is in the shroud. She is to be her father s daughter. Make him proud by
staying home and helping her mother with chores. A father s daughter will marry young before
she gives her family a bad name. According to these social norms, I am not a good girl, my mother

Populist Party Dbq Analysis
The issue during this period that most bothering the agrarian farmers was that of the currency
issue, or more specifically the issue of silver. As seen in Document A, the platform of the
Populist party greatly surrounded the concept of greenbacks as a way to provide an easy exit
for the debt trapped farmers. In addition to the idea of greenbacks, the concept of silver as coin
since the dawn of history (Document A) is a great concern of this party. One major tactic of this
party was the Crime of 73 which was an attempt of the Westerners to bring silver back and similar
to the demand for greenbacks, was the farmer way of trying to promote inflation, something
detrimental to the American economy. This rational explanation against silver is also seen in
Document B, where William McKinley, creator of the McKinley Tariff, a tariff that greatly
impacted farmers for the worse, describes the negative effects of silver being, It would not make
farming less laborious or more profitable.. (Document B), a statement, while true, not accepted by

Chuen, Bruce s father, was a comedic actor in the Chinese opera. Chuen and his wife were on
tour in America with the opera company when Bruce was born. At three months old, Bruce and
his family returned to Hong Kong. On the way back, Bruce became weak from the change in
climates and the long ocean trip. From a young age, Bruce had already appeared in many films as
a child actor, studied dance, and wrote poetry. While in middle school, Bruce would be taunted by

One of Bruce s students, Linda Garfield, was a freshman at the University of Washington, later
married Bruce in 1964. Linda and Bruce moved to Oakland, California to open another school,

Bruce set to improve by expanding his knowledge of other styles. In 1964, Bruce s self
exploration was delayed by a challenge from other gung fu teachers from San Francisco. These
teachers didn t like that Bruce was teaching non Chinese people. The terms of the challenge were
if Bruce lost, he would stop teaching non Chinese. Bruce won the fight in three minutes, but was
disappointed in himself, for taking so long and being exhausted. This is the point where Bruce
turned in his self exploration in martial arts and physical fitness, bringing the evolution of Jeet
Kune Do. In earlier years, Bruce became friends with Ed Parker, the man regarded as the starter
of American Kenpo. Bruce was invited by Parker in August of 1964, to Long Beach, California,
for Parker s First International Karate Tournament to give a demonstration. Bruce demonstrated

Dna Evidence Of A Dna Unit Within A Crime Lab
Today in the crime world, DNA evidence is strongly accepted in solving crime cases. This is all
based in part by allowing a crime laboratory to have a designated unit whose main goal is to
analyze DNA evidence to aid investigators with positive outcomes in crime case solving. With that
being said we are going to discuss the functions of a DNAunit within a crime lab as well as address
the vital role these units play in solving crime.
Let s start by defining what in fact is DNA analysis. According to the FBI s crime lab, the DNA
analysis process can take place when bodily fluid stains and other biological tissues are found on
physical evidence collected from a crime scene (FBI DNA Casework Unit, 2016). The DNA
testing results obtained from evidence samples are compared to DNA from reference samples
collected from known individuals. Such analyses may be able to associate victims and suspects
with each other, with evidence items, or with a crime scene (FBI DNA Casework Unit, 2016). The
FBI and other national crime labs can conduct nuclear, Y chromosome, and or mitochondrial DNA
testing depending on the technology and funds appropriated to the unit. Smaller fielded units would
probably not be able to do some testing which would result in them forwarding evidence or using
other assets with greater capabilities.
DNA is the genetic material that makes up the characteristics of all living organisms. While all
human DNA is very similar in nature, there is just enough differences in

Moral Hypocrite And The Village Worthy Analysis
There is similarity between moral hypocrite and the village worthy. Both moral hypocrite and the
village worthy are the people who pretend to have qualities, beliefs, or feelings that they do not
really in society. People who are considered as moral hypocrite and the village worthy are not born
that way and they are not necessarily bad inside either. Their characters are influenced by nurture.
Although they have similar tendencies each other, there are slightly differences between moral
hypocrite and the village worthy. To examine how they are different and which these two
individuals are morally criticizable, it is important to understand why they pretend to be morally
better than they actually are, and what their moral problems influence toward our society, the other
members of community and themselves as well. The major difference between moral hypocrite
and the village worthy is associated with personal benefits and the tendency of people within a
community. The purpose of being moral hypocrite is to obtain one s interest and external goods in
a community. Moral hypocrite cares too much about his or her appearance for having certain values
and benefits, and also he or she wants to get better reputation in a community.... Show more content

Village worthy expresses oneself by conforming something that other members of a community
want. For instance, when Wan Chang asked What sort of a person will be described as village
worthy ?, Mencius mentioned that Being in this world, one must behave in a manner pleasing to
this world. So long as one is good, it is all right. He tries in this way cringingly to please the
world. Such as the village worthy. Mencius defined village worthy who develops his or her
character with the world, a community that we are involved

Benefits Of A Tariff On Goods And Services That Are Imported
A Tariff in general is a comprehensive tax on goods and services that are imported. The main
aim of a tariff is to create security to the domestic product of a nation from the imported goods
which are cheaper and have a huge production capacity. Furthermore tariffs also aid in balancing
the prices in a country. This paper describes the roles tariffs play in a country and also pros and
cons of tariffs.
There exist many different forms tariffs in which each is has its own specific operation. Some of
the most notable tariffs include the revenue tariff, prohibitive tariff and protective tariff.
The Revenue Tariff
This tariff is meant to create and accumulate huge amount of government finances. For example a
country that has little product. For it to keep the domestic income strong the government has to
install tariff on the goods which have been imported hence levying the prices. The government thus
creates a security cover for the product of certain import goods that are limited.
Prohibitive tariff
This tariff is normally used to diminish competition between the foreign and domestic producers.
Furthermore it is used to cease foreign imports present in its track. It works in a way similar to an
embargo placed on a specific given country.
Protective tariff
This type of tariff tends to inflate the prices that imported products have set thus creating a positive
price vacuum for locally based industries. Protective tariff highly taxes foreign imports hence
forcing a specific

Lies My Teacher Told Me by James W. Loewen Essay
Lies My Teacher Told Me by James W. Loewen High school history textbooks are seen, by students,
as presenting the last word on American History. Rarely, if ever, do they question what their text
tells them about our collective past. According to James W. Loewen s Lies My Teacher Told Me,
they should be. Loewen has spent considerable time and effort reviewing history texts that were
written for high school students. In Lies, he has reviewed twenty texts and has compared them to
the actual history. Sadly, not one text measures up to the author s expectation of teaching students
to think. What is worse, though, is that students come away from their classes without having
developed the ability to think coherently about social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Loewen they got his name right, and not much else. Lies points out that there were
many groups of explorers that had discovered America before Columbus. He probably used
some of their information as a basis for his plans to sail west. A full eight pages are devoted to
other possible explorers. These groups include ancient groups from Indonesia, Japan, China, and
Phoenicia. More recent groups include the Vikings, British Islanders, West Africans, and
Portuguese fishermen. There are varying levels of evidence connecting these groups to pre
Columbian America, but still enough to throw doubt into the mix. Columbus got the credit
because of the way in which Europe responded to his discovery. Other false ideas taught about
Columbus deal with what is left out. His original motivation may have been to find another trade
route to the Orient, but his real motivation, in subsequent expeditions to America, was money. By
1493 Columbus had planned to plunder Haiti, according to Michele de Cuneo, who had been on
Columbus s first voyage. Columbus, himself, said to Ferdinand and Isabella that his motivation
was gold, and gold constitutes treasure; and he who has it does all he wants in the world, and can
even lift souls up to Paradise (Lies p34). Another side of Columbus

Roles Of Women In The Crucible
The roles of the women in the drama are significant because of the way they shape the story and
help the reader understand the nature of one of the strangest events in human history. Throughout
the novel, women are portrayed in many different ways. Some are shown as being good and moral
people while others the complete opposite. Arthur Miller s treatment of women in this play show
women as weak beings who give into their husbands. Each women in the drama plays a significant
role in showing the different archetypes there were among women especially Mary Warren,
Elizabeth Proctor, and Abigail Williams. In addition, Kohlberg s Moral Stages are six
developmental stages of human moral reasoning which can tie into the view in which we have
of the women in the play. The roles in which women play in the drama are very significant due to
the fact that they are able to shape the story and give an idea of the nature of one of the strangest
events which we call the witch trials. In the play, women are depicted as weak creatures who are
expected to submit to men, and whose only access to power is through dishonest means which we
see a lot through certain characters. No women in the Crucible possesses extreme power and with
the lying and dishonest females having the most power through despicable acts, only means for the
truthful, pure hearted, and family orientated women to be the least powerful. More specifically,
women from the drama who fit into these archetypes are Mary Warren,

Physics Of A Baseball Player Analysis
As in most racquet/bat/stick dons, a baseball player s goal is to convey the greatest measure of
energy conceivable at effect. This energy is then exchanged to the ball, quickening it to a high
velocity (Adair, 2002). The direction and speed of the batted ball are the essential contributing
components to the consequence of the hit. A batted ball with high speed can bring about one of at
least two successful results, depending upon the ball s direction. In the event that the direction of
the ball is higher, the ball can arrive somewhere down in the outfield for an additional fair hit or
perhaps go over the wall for a home run. These outcomes are very great for the batter.
Energy is made by the player through his use of the kinetic chain (Race,

13.XYZ Affair
President John Adams had sent several delegates, one of them being John Martial, to France to help
sort out the issues between France and the US, such as the United States not honoring the Franco
American Treaty, formed back during the American Revolution, when France had its revolution, by
meeting with minister Talleyrand of France. Three of Talleyrand s men met with the delegates and
told them Talleyrand refused to meet unless a large amount of money was payed. The delegates
returned home and informed President Adams, who was outraged. The name of the Affair comes
from the substituting of the three French men s names with X, Y, and Z in a Congress report.
This event was significant to the United States during this time because, instead of helping our
relations with France, like the US had hoped for after they accused us of allying with the British
when Jay s Treaty was formed, it only made things worse. The United States was enraged by
France s outrageous demands, and France was still angered by lack of promised US support during
the French Revolution.
14.Revolution of 1800
The Revolution of 1800, as it was called by Thomas Jefferson, was the election that took place for
presidency in 1800. In this election, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Aaron Burr were all
running for president; Adams didn t stand a chance against the other two after his presidency, and
was easily defeated. Burr and Jefferson tied for votes and Alexander Hamilton, who, even

Reflection Paper On Rmsel Family
Greetings fellow RMSEL civilians, I am Dinara for those who didn t know me. And today, I
would like to talk about our little RMSEL community. Our RMSEL community is wonderful, it
is full of compassion, comfort, social acceptance, you name it. I have always dreamed of a little
world with all of these components, and here I am today in that little world; my dream has come
true. But, there is always going to be a problem in this little world that we all live in, and that
problem is that we can get sad pretty easily. That sadness can get carried off to others all around
us, it becomes contagious and dreadful, we can get all these different kinds of emotions just
from this sadness. And sometimes our little community falls apart just because of that vile,
cancerous sadness. As RMSEL citizens, we have to get rid of this sadness, we have to overcome
this sadness before it is too late. When I first came to RMSEL in 6th grade, I felt uncomfortable
with my surrounding others. I didn t recognize anyone s faces and I didn t feel welcomed. But, I
didn t give up, I came to this school because I wanted to achieve in becoming a better person. So I
tried to make myself comfortable with the school s system, I asked questions to the students on
how the system is like for this school. They gave me answers, and I became more and more aware
of the school. The students told me everything, but usually in a traditional school, the explanation
on the school s system would be written on

Comparing Poems Salome, Hitcher, On My First Sonne and The Man He Killed The poems,
Salome, Hitcher, On My First Sonne and The Man He Killed all have similar themes. The
menacing and threatening ideas that the poets used are all based around death. However, each
poem has a different perspective on the word with different motives and emotions. The Man He
Killed is about a man who talks of the experience he had of shooting someone and the regrets he
has for it. He feels guilty, as he has no conceivable explanation for shooting the man. He talks of
the similarities he and his foe had such as He thought he d list, perhaps, Off hand like just as I. The

The last he sees of the hiker, he is bouncing off the kerb, then disappearing down the verge we do

uses the technique of writing in first person and colloquial speaking. He writes about violence in
a very relaxed manner just as the person would have thought without a care in the world . On
My First Sonne is about a Father grieving for the death of his first Son. He believes he has sinned
and that his sin is that he loved his Son too much. This menacing in a way as it is a confusing or
immoral as it is strange too think a man could believe his Son died because he loved him too

would doubtless...do it again . Having woken up with a severed head on the pillow, she cannot

Figurative Language In Prophetic Literature
1)
The figurative language in prophetic literature, wisdom literature, and Lamentations all depict
feminine figures and characteristics. The prophetic literature consists of Amos, Hosea, Isiah,
Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. In these scriptures, the people of Israel are depicted as pitiless and
loveless by naming the Children of Hosea and Gomer Lo ruhamah and Lo ammi explaining
them as children of whoredom . This imagery is seen as Israel (Gomer) as a woman who has
betrayed God (Hosea) through infidelity, worshiping other Gods and procreating with other
people in those religions. We see Israel as an exposed woman for her iniquity (Hosea 2:3 9) a
shaming for her transgressions as a bride. God casts Israel out of the home for her disloyalty (Hosea

Two metanarratives are seen in the Chronicles; the importance and redemption of repentance, and
the reoccurring theme throughout the old testament, exile and return. David is the model for
repentance but there is a new story of repentance not seen in the book of Kings, Manasseh. In 2
Chronicles 33:10 13 Manasseh repents for his foreign worship and more, by building an outer
wall to protect the city of David and removed false idols to restore the altars of YHWH. The
repentance of Manasseh is completely missing in the book of Kings. Exile and return are
experienced in 2 Chronicles 36:11 21, although kings may have repented (David, Solomon, and
Manasseh) it is not implied that the people of Israel have also (2 Chronicles 34:23 24) and
therefore God lets His people return to exile. The holy places are destroyed and desecrated while
the Israelites are forced again into exile. Thankfully, exile is always followed with return and
restoration. King Cyrus acknowledges the Hebrew God and rebuilds the temple and the Israelites

Italian Literature Paper. “It Is Not Possible To Sink Lower Italian Literature Paper It is not possible to sink lower than this; no human condition is more miserable than this, nor could it conceivably be so (Levi 1238). This quote comes from Primo Levi s story On the Bottom , where the audience gets a view of the vile and unspeakable event known today as the Holocaust. This event influenced Italian literature, taught people a great deal about the jewish culture, and showed people the true evil in history. To begin, the Jewish faith is one of the oldest major religions and the first to believe in one God. The religion itself originated with the Hebrew people of the middle east, and it is based on God, Torah, and Israel. Jewish people follow a basic set of ethical codes, known as the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rosh Ha Shannah is the Jewish New Year, that celebrates the creation of the world and God s rule over it. This is one of the holiest days of the year for the Jews, along with Yom Kippur. One of the many examples of Jewish customs are the dietary laws. These can be found in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. Any Jew who chooses to follow these rules, do not eat pork or shellfish such as shrimp or oysters. Meat and milk products are stored separately and are not served at the same meal. They refrain from eating any milk products for several hours after eating meat. Meat killed from a ritual slaughter known as Shehitah is the only meat they are allowed to eat. At the age of 13 boys and girls are to fulfill a religious obligation through the Bar MItzvah (Bat Mitzvah for girls). This is a ceremony in which they are recognized as adults responsible for fulfilling the obligations of Judaism (Magid). At the same time the Jewish faith was developing, so was Italian literature. Italian literature was greatly influenced by a movement known as futurism during the 1900 s. Language and metaphors glorified the violence of the time period. Themes with problems of personal identity and absurdity of reality were common (Cherchi). After World War II ended, a variety of different literary styles emerged. This included magical realism, absurd plays, and protest literature. Each new type of literature shared an aesthetic that became postmodernism. This was a way to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Postmodernism vs. Marxism Essay Postmodernism vs. Marxism Postmodernism is perhaps the most difficult thing to define at this point in time. That is in large part due to the fact that we are currently still in the movement, political view, or economy (to classify postmodernism as only one of the above is to have already defeated your definition). One of the few things that have been empirically proven is that it indeed focuses on culture. Jameson once argued that postmodernism was a more of a cultural dominant than anything else (Storey, p. 184). Postmodernism succeeded modernism as the dominant form of culturalism. Modernism began around the turn of the nineteenth century, when science began to rear its ugly side. The renaissance saw the birth of science; a study that would further mankind s search for truth. The 1900s saw the first use use of science to eliminate life. This shockwave that hit most Western cultures (including a few Asian cultures) started a general distrust of science. The French filmmaker Godard was one of the first filmmakers that was truly a modernist. Godard used many tactics to reproach the science reliant society that had been growing for the past several centuries. The self consciousness of Godard s films forbids the viewer from ever becoming completely sutured into the narrative (Aumont, p. 220). It is as if Godard is constantly reminding the viewer that film is nothing more than a construct of mankind, twenty four frames of static motion per second. Soon after the modernist movement began cultures around the world started to question why it was that they had adapted a new form of living; curious if it had been a choice or an imposition. While not all countries, such as the Philippines, China, Columbia, etc... had experienced an industrial revolution, most countries of the First world had. Phoebe Bridgers Stranger In The Alps Analysis Phoebe Bridgers debut album, Stranger in the Alps brings listeners in touch with their innermost feelings through hauntingly beautiful melodies and dark, heartbreaking lyrics. Inspired by artists (now friends) such as Conor Oberst and Julien Baker, this L.A. native s blend of folk, pop, and rock tells stories of relationships, loneliness, and the impact of both on our interactions with ourselves and others. She has gotten the attention of songwriters like Ryan Adams, Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast, and Hayley Williams of Paramore. With such a personal story like this, an intimate connection between the singer and audience is developed. The lines, Wishing I was someone else/ Feeling sorry for myself/ And I remembered someone s kid is dead hit you with with reality and are possibly the most powerful on the whole record. Some of the tracks make you wonder if the twenty two year old singer songwriter is okay and for me it was Killer . The main theme of the song is about the lack of control people have over others and the loneliness felt when feelings are not reciprocated by those we love. Two tracks on the album contain a more upbeat instrumental sound compared to the rest. The faster tempo and electric guitar heard in Motion Sickness and the duet with Conor Oberst in Would You Rather are probably the most cheerfully arranged on the record and stand out in contrast to the slower paced piano ballad, guitar plucking, and acoustic songs like Georgia , Demi Moore , and Scott Street . The authenticity in Stranger in the Alps proves Bridgers integrity as a songwriter. Her somber lyrics combined with beautiful melodies truly make this record stand out, especially as a debut. Darkness is a powerful image that authors use to their advantage in building up the scene and mood within their writing. Arthur Miller is no exception. He uses the contrast of dark and light to build up suspense and mood. He is also able to foreshadow the upcoming events with the use of night. To start, the play opens up with the scene of Paris accusing Abigail of being in the woods late in the night, [ find quote] This use of darkness symbolizes the sinister act of witchcraft. The effect of these actions results in Betty lying in bed, sick. She supposedly cannot move and is despondent. She s been like this since midnight, Then why can she not move herself since midnight? Hale equates light to God s holiness and sees it as a way to purify Tituba, ... open yourself and let God s holy light shine on you. (pg.45) In addition, the dark also is a foreshadowing element. • 24. How Television Programs Can Support And Facilitate Word... Introduction For many years, parents have relied on using educational programs to teach and engage their children with new concepts and materials. Conversely, many children have also used television as an opportunity for learning and language development. For example, the rise of television programs like Elmo Street and Teletubbies demonstrates this upward trend of substituting media sources for teaching and learning. However, despite the increasing support from parents toward television programs, many researchers have mixed reviews on putting our children into viewing long hours of what they considered unnecessary learning. Thus in what follows of this paper, I will focus on explaining how television programs can support and facilitate word development. Moreover, I will also discuss the mixed literacy support for using television as a learning tool and finally, I will conduct a study that measures, specifically, the relationship between watching educational TV and learning novel words. Hopefully, with these measures, I will be able to find supporting evidence that proves educational TV can be a good predictor for word learning. Throughout the years, one continuous point of debate has been whether educational TV can facilitate and improve word learning in children. Many studies on this debate have found distinct and mixed research outcomes. This means that when intranasal Naloxone is administered, Naloxone has to be administered repeatedly to fully reverse opioid overdose. Often times, intranasal Naloxone is followed by administration of intravenous or intramuscular Naloxone. While using intravenous and intramuscular administration, there is no way to slow the absorption of Naloxone. Nevertheless, several studies have shown that intranasal Naloxone absorbs in the same amount of time as intravenous Naloxone when the administrator accounts for the time Naloxone takes for an I.V. to be placed. Granted the absorption rate is slower for intranasal admission versus intravenous, the nasal route still has a valuable blood supply allowing Naloxone to be absorbed efficiently (Robison and Wermeling 2131). The task of the landlord is to design a contract which encourages the best tenants to participate and, at the same time, gives the tenant the right incentives to work hard to achieve the result after the contract is signed. If the agent is risk neutral, the best contract makes the agent the residual claimant of the contract and the principal is paid a flat fee by the agent. These performancerelated contracts normally ensure that good agents enter the contract and charlatans are left out, and at the same time provide the best incentives to the agent for expending costly effort. Moreover, if the principal is risk averse, the contract is also optimal for him from the standpoint of risk minimization. If, more realistically, the agent is risk averse and has no access to credit markets on the same terms as the principal, there is an obvious trade off between inducing effort (which requires the agent to be exposed to the risky outcome) and providing insurance (which goes in the opposite direction). In this essay, I will be using the Pseudosciaena crocea also known as the Yellow croaker as my example.1 Yellow croaker got their name from the noises that they make during the spawning season.2 I will also be addressing the problem of overfishing and environmental consequences that arise. • 37. Populist Party Dbq Analysis The issue during this period that most bothering the agrarian farmers was that of the currency issue, or more specifically the issue of silver. As seen in Document A, the platform of the Populist party greatly surrounded the concept of greenbacks as a way to provide an easy exit for the debt trapped farmers. In addition to the idea of greenbacks, the concept of silver as coin since the dawn of history (Document A) is a great concern of this party. One major tactic of this party was the Crime of 73 which was an attempt of the Westerners to bring silver back and similar to the demand for greenbacks, was the farmer way of trying to promote inflation, something detrimental to the American economy. This rational explanation against silver is also seen in Document B, where William McKinley, creator of the McKinley Tariff, a tariff that greatly impacted farmers for the worse, describes the negative effects of silver being, It would not make farming less laborious or more profitable.. This is all based in part by allowing a crime laboratory to have a designated unit whose main goal is to analyze DNA evidence to aid investigators with positive outcomes in crime case solving. With that being said we are going to discuss the functions of a DNAunit within a crime lab as well as address the vital role these units play in solving crime. Let s start by defining what in fact is DNA analysis. According to the FBI s crime lab, the DNA analysis process can take place when bodily fluid stains and other biological tissues are found on physical evidence collected from a crime scene (FBI DNA Casework Unit, 2016). The DNA testing results obtained from evidence samples are compared to DNA from reference samples collected from known individuals. Such analyses may be able to associate victims and suspects with each other, with evidence items, or with a crime scene (FBI DNA Casework Unit, 2016). The FBI and other national crime labs can conduct nuclear, Y chromosome, and or mitochondrial DNA testing depending on the technology and funds appropriated to the unit. Smaller fielded units would probably not be able to do some testing which would result in them forwarding evidence or using other assets with greater capabilities. The main aim of a tariff is to create security to the domestic product of a nation from the imported goods which are cheaper and have a huge production capacity. Furthermore tariffs also aid in balancing the prices in a country. This paper describes the roles tariffs play in a country and also pros and cons of tariffs. There exist many different forms tariffs in which each is has its own specific operation. Some of the most notable tariffs include the revenue tariff, prohibitive tariff and protective tariff. The Revenue Tariff This tariff is meant to create and accumulate huge amount of government finances. For example a country that has little product. For it to keep the domestic income strong the government has to install tariff on the goods which have been imported hence levying the prices. The government thus creates a security cover for the product of certain import goods that are limited. Prohibitive tariff This tariff is normally used to diminish competition between the foreign and domestic producers. Furthermore it is used to cease foreign imports present in its track. It works in a way similar to an embargo placed on a specific given country. Protective tariff This type of tariff tends to inflate the prices that imported products have set thus creating a positive price vacuum for locally based industries. Roles Of Women In The Crucible The roles of the women in the drama are significant because of the way they shape the story and help the reader understand the nature of one of the strangest events in human history. Throughout the novel, women are portrayed in many different ways. Some are shown as being good and moral people while others the complete opposite. Arthur Miller s treatment of women in this play show women as weak beings who give into their husbands. Each women in the drama plays a significant role in showing the different archetypes there were among women especially Mary Warren, Elizabeth Proctor, and Abigail Williams. In addition, Kohlberg s Moral Stages are six developmental stages of human moral reasoning which can tie into the view in which we have of the women in the play. The roles in which women play in the drama are very significant due to the fact that they are able to shape the story and give an idea of the nature of one of the strangest events which we call the witch trials. In the play, women are depicted as weak creatures who are expected to submit to men, and whose only access to power is through dishonest means which we see a lot through certain characters. Three of Talleyrand s men met with the delegates and told them Talleyrand refused to meet unless a large amount of money was payed. The delegates returned home and informed President Adams, who was outraged. The name of the Affair comes from the substituting of the three French men s names with X, Y, and Z in a Congress report.
