The Ministers Black Veil By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Many romantic writers focused on the gothic side of romantic literature, from quirky to evil they tend
to draw emotions from the viewer. The focused material is The Ministers Black Veil , written by
Nathaniel Hawthorne. In the text Mr. Hooper is a preacher who is engaged to Elizabeth and has
recently started hiding his face behind a black veil. The townspeople begin to think he s gone mad. He
is very loving and caring, but known as living his life without much worries and being a sinful man.
While wearing the veil, he preaches and then is buried in it. Before he dies the only person who is not
afraid to question Mr. Hooper about the veil is his fiancé. He does not give Elizabeth a clear answer to
wearing the veil, which forces Elizabeth to believe he s covering up a committed sin by wearing the
veil. Throughout Hawthorne s work there were different actions that his characters portray. These
characters are identified as puritans who fought inner demons between lies and their sanity. In other
opinions one may refute that Hawthorne s purpose of hiding Mr. Hooper under the veil is just his way
of dealing with what he is going through. Hooper does not search for deliverance from his sorrows;
instead he resolves to live his life as best he can while dealing with them, a stance that leaves no room
for unpredictable deliverance from God (Buchanan 6). Here it states that Hooper is dealing with his
issues, even though from the outside he is portraying something else. Although

Elbert Frank Cox Biography
Let me introduce you to a man named Elbert Frank Cox. Cox was a very skilled mathematician and
through his ability in his field, changed how people may perceive African Americans and proved to
people that your skin tone doesn t make you any more or less capable as anyone else. Being the first
African American man to receive a Ph.D. in mathematics represented much more than his intellectual
power, but also that anyone can one day be just like him, if not better.
Historical events that happened during his lifetime: There were many important events that happened
during Elbert lifetime, some more important than others. Some were math and science related. one of
the first things that people need to know is that he Graduated from Indiana university and was the first
black man to receive a Ph.D. D.another thing was that After he retired he made a scholarship fund for

The Suffragette Film Analysis
The Suffragette film presents a truthful recount of how women were perceived within society.
Throughout society, there was a belief that women do not need to represent their own self; rather they
have husbands that will represent their wives (Suffragette 2015). Women are often left in a state of
subordination because men are considered to be self centered and are only fully noticed when a male
is sexually attracted to her. As a result, women are perceived as sexual objects for the male gender
(Solarnis 1968, p.464). As mentioned previously, it was expected that women follow their gender
norms of caring for the children and husband and not to stray away from this norm. During the early
20th century, it has been stated that men have authoritative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is clear to see that the women acknowledged the gender inequalities within society and that they
should have a right to vote alongside men. The film follows Maud, who is the main character, as she
begins to take part in the Suffragette movement. Maud s Suffragette encounter began when she was
listening to Mrs Olton s speech, which was utilised in order to get women to voice their struggles, and
hope for change. At the time of the speech, Maud was working at the laundry for Mr Taylor, who
sexually, emotionally and physically abused the women who were working there. Following Mrs
Olton s speech, Maud was forced to give a statement to parliament and she described working at the
laundry for Mr Taylor. She stated that the women working in the laundry received aches, chest coughs,
crushed fingers, leg ulcers, burns, headaches, and sometimes, poisoned (Suffragette 2015).
Additionally, women were paid 13 shillings; whereas men were paid 19 shillings, even though women
worked a third more of the hours (Suffragette 2015). Connell s (1987, p.188) research of this time
period portrays this truthfulness as he states that women were paid unequally to

A Small Sized Cars
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION PROJECT BACKGROUND Nowadays, the small sized cars have
attracted a lot of popularity mostly among those a living in the cities. Nevertheless, this type of car is
also well known for the shortage of its comfortable such as the restrained sitting posture. This
contributes to discomfort and unhealthy that presents to the musculoskeletal disorders (MD) such as
pain in neck, sitting bones, shoulder, and lower back. Sitting comfort has been an important issue that
demands the ergonomics interventions due to higher demands on the comfort of cars especially in the

Review Of Old Mother Savage
Assignment One The Question states: Write an essay about SKILL in the story Old Mother Savage.
By skill I mean both the skill and the intelligence that the woman shows in doing what she does, and
planning it, and also the skill and intelligence of the writer, de Maupassant. That is to say, how well,
and effectively, the writing works, and how it reaches the heart (if it does) and is real. Write as well
and as intelligently as you can, and please quote from the story in order to support the points that you
make. The definition of Skill: The ability to do something well; expertise. A particular ability. The
word skill encompasses a wide variety of meaning in its definition compared to how few words it
contains. In the following, I will describe some of the interesting examples of skill and lack of skill
that I found throughout the story, Old Mother Savage. I found these examples of skill in the narrator of
the story; in the flashback storyteller, Serval; in the main character, Old Mother Savage; as well as in
the writer himself, Guy de Maupassant. The Story Narrator s Skill. At the very of the beginning of the
story, the reader is greeted with a long description of his surroundings and overall feelings about
nature. This was coupled with the recollection that the narrator had when walking, where he
remembered having met Old Mother Savage, the ...good woman of the house... (line 31). I believe that
this gives the narrator a reason to ask Serval what has happened to the

Perhaps the earliest device for working out sums was the abacus. This began as a clay tablet into
which grooves were cut. Pebbles were then placed or taken away from grooves to perform addition
and subtraction. (Our word calculation comes from the Latin word calculus meaning pebble ).
Because the pebbles were likely to become mislaid, they were later replaced by beads threaded on to
wires and mounted in a frame. By moving the beads backwards and forwards, addition, subtraction,
division and multiplication could be done. In 1614 John Napier, an astronomer, invented a ready

on the complex installations.
They can for example, be used to simulate the behavior of an aircraft in response to the actions of
crew members. Using analog computers, apparent equipment failures or other emergencies can be

Waste, or rubbish, trash, junk, garbage, depending on the type of material or the regional terminology,
is an unwanted or undesired material or substance. It may consist of the unwanted materials left over
from a manufacturing process (industrial, commercial, mining or agricultural operations,) or from
community and household activities. The material may be discarded or accumulated, stored, or treated

Some solid waste can also be converted to a liquid waste form for disposal. It includes point source
and non point source discharges such as storm water and wastewater. Examples of liquid waste
include wash water from homes, liquids used for cleaning in industries and waste detergents.
Solid type:
Solid waste predominantly, is any garbage, refuse or rubbish that we make in our homes and other
places. These include old car tires, old newspapers, broken furniture and even food waste. They may
include any waste that is non liquid.
Hazardous type:
Hazardous or harmful waste are those that potentially threaten public health or the environment. Such
waste could be inflammable (can easily catch fire), reactive (can easily explode), corrosive (can easily
eat through metal) or toxic (poisonous to human and animals). In many countries, it is required by law
to involve the appropriate authority to supervise the disposal of such hazardous waste. Examples
include fire extinguishers, old propane tanks, pesticides, mercury containing equipment (e.g,
thermostats) and lamps (e.g. fluorescent bulbs) and batteries.
Organic type:
Organic waste comes from plants or animals sources. Commonly, they include food waste, fruit and
vegetable peels, flower trimmings and even dog poop can be classified as organic waste. They are
biodegradable (this means they are easily broken down by other organisms over time and turned into
manure). Many people turn their

Lingua franca is defined as a language that is adopted as a common language between speakers whose
native languages are different ( lingua franca . 2016. Oxford Dictionaries.com.

an International Language (2000), Jenkins stated that the most universally used lingua franca is
English, and there are more non native English speakers compared to native English speakers. The

speakers compared to native English speakers, there are 800 million people who speak English as their
second language compared to 500 million that speaks Mandarin as their second language (Mercer,

proportion of verbal exchange in English does not involve any native speakers of the language at all.
(Seidlhofer, 2008) This is because English is chosen as the language of choice when communicating
with the world while Mandarin is only used to communicate around South East Asia. There might be
languages that will take over the English language as the dominant lingua franca in the distant future
but as of this moment, especially 10 years from now, English is still defending its

The Authority Of Religious Elites In The 1640s Witch Hunts
The Authority of Religious Elites in the 1640s Witch Hunts The large scale witch hunts that occurred
from 1638 to 1651 gathered momentum via major happenings in the political, societal, and religious
domains developing at the time. Individuals who had either political, religious or economic power in
society, also known as elites, together had absolute control over the pursuit and prosecution of
individuals who partook in witchcraft. The clergy played a crucial role in the witchcraft prosecutions
and were slower than the state and localities to desert their beliefs in the reality of witches as the
prosecution of witchcraft was, in their eyes, an effective tool to eradicate social deviance. Though
local authorities and the Parliament did contribute to the witch hunts significantly, without the kirk of
Scotland declaring and encouraging this sanction on witchcraft, both other parties would not have
taken the actions they ultimately did. This essay will provide a brief description of events that took
place from 1638 to 1651 and then utilize evidence from a multitude of sources to argue that the
religious elites were the most influential of these forces during the witchcraft prosecutions that
occurred in the 1640s. Due to the Scots dissatisfaction with the current monarch, King Charles I, the
National Covenant was formed by on February 28th in 1638 at Greyfrairs Kirk in Edinburgh. All his
subjects were welcome to sign this document as it was viewed as an irrevocable contract

The Pros And Cons Of Modern Monetary Theory
Modern monetary theory (MMT) Modern monetary theory explains exclusively how the government,
central bank and the commercial banking sector interacts, with some economists arguing that
understanding of reserve accounting is critical to understanding monetary policy options. This theory
was developed by a group of economist including Randal Wray (2009) and Bill Mitchell. All of the
commercial banks will also have an account with the central bank. This permits the banks to manage
their reserves that is, the amount of available short term money that a particular bank holds. So when
the government spends, treasury will debit its cash operating account at the central bank, and deposit
this money into private bank accounts (and hence into the commercial ... Show more content on

In most countries, commercial banks reserve accounts with the central bank must have a positive
balance at the end of every day; in some countries, the amount is specifically set as a proportion of the
liabilities a bank have that is on its customers. This is known as a reserve requirement. At the end of
every day, a commercial bank will have to examine the status of their reserve accounts. Those that are
in deficit have the option of borrowing the required funds from the central bank, where they may be
charged a lending rate which is also referred to as the discount rates on the amount they borrow. In a
balanced system, where there are just enough total reserves for all the banks to meet requirements, the
short term interbank lending rate will be in between the support rate and the discount rate. Both the
Treasury and the central bank are involved in these reserve management operations to maintain
interest rate stability (Palley, 2012). This applies to the relationship between the Central Bank of
Kenya and its regulatory requirement to maintain a capping that is below 14%. CBK finances
commercial banks at much lower rate on their borrowing so that the banks can fix their interest
charges on borrowed money at certain percentage that must not exceed the limit set by the

The Role Of Robots
I imagine my future with robots, advanced phone, flying cars and much more. A lot of people think
that robots will take over the world and take people s job, etc. Robots are being use to go to war and
taking people s jobs. Robots are operating environment, the relatively high initial cost of robots means
that they tend to be only used by large companies or in defence. It is unlikely that all the humans will
be replaced by robots in any task, it is much more likely that fewer people will be needed because for
many years robots will be assistants. Robots are usually thought of as being mobile but they don t
have to be. For example, washing machines, dishwashers, and tumble driers can also be thought of as
robots. The future is most likely to be one of productivity gains. They are trying to put brains and
several sensors and actuators in robots. The technology has been available for many years. The
advances happening in technology and it s becoming that evident that computers, machines, robots,
and other things are going to be able to do most of the routine, and repetitive types of jobs. A lot of
skills levels fall into that category. People with college degrees, even professional degrees, also
lawyers are doing things that ultimately are predictable. A lot of those jobs are going to be susceptible
over time. Right now there s still a lot of debate over it. There are economists who think it s totally

Socrates Apology
The Apology epitomizes Socrates acuities in a trial in 399 BC. Plato incorporates the word apologia to
illustrate the view, life, and events of the character Socrates. The publication provides a chronological
explanation of the life of Socrates in the following ways. First, Socrates acknowledges that he almost
became unaware of his character while addressing the Athen s Populace. The prologue, therefore,
creates the direction and the tone of the ensuing dialogue. Thus, the introductory section enables the
audience to develop a sense of understanding the character, motives and the perceptions regarding the
false accusations of representing a sophist and physicalist ideas. Therefore, Socrates speaks the plain

Principally, the explanation of the Socrates and the defense against the false accusations of youth
incitement and the devaluation of the human worth introduces the concept of the just and unjust city in
the ancient Greek that aimed to heighten the comprehension of the social order and equality.
According to the presentation of the speech, a just city accommodates the aspirations of every citizen
and provides equal opportunities for everyone to express their view and perform the different tasks.
Besides, a tolerant society according to the speech judges a person base on the actions and the morals
instead of the predetermined standards that sometimes are incoherent. Hence, Plato s writings
significantly enable the role allocation in the society encompassing the ruling elite, the jurymen, and
the subjects. According to the perspective of Socrates, he helps the audience to understand his
perceptions of life and his roles in the society including enlightening the populace. Hence, the ruling
elite as extrapolated in the publication has the obligation of providing rational governance structures
and upholding the integrity. Plato s narrative also introduces the next category of the Guardian. In this
perspective, he compares Socrates to the horsefly that keeps the animal active without harming the
horse. Therefore, the guardians have the responsibility of safeguarding the society from the internal
and the external harms and ensuring the sustainability of the future generations. Finally, Socrates
perspectives inform the public to ensure ethical decision making to ensure that the working class or
persons entrusted with leadership roles do not make quick decisions that harm the critics. Thus, he
suggests that the working class of the society should ensure the provision of adequate and accessible
commodities and services. Even though the defense does not mention the roles, it is evident that
Socrates aimed to

My First Time Driving Out Of The City Of Denver
As I slept I hear my alarm going off and I excitedly jump out of bed. It is only 4:00 am and the sky is
still dark. It is August 20, 2015 and I am double checking everything. This is my first time driving out
of the city of Dallas by myself. I am on my way to a new journey, I am moving to Houston. I had only
been to Houston twice and both times I was there only for a day so I never got to see the city. That was
about to change because now I will be living there. I did one big sweep of my house to make sure I
had everything I would need for my drive. Only thing I could think about was This is it Brianna, you
will be in Houston in a few hours .
I typed in my destination in my GPS and I pulled out my mother s drive way. As I started driving
thoughts enter my mind as this is a very big deal. I could not stop smiling. Not only was this my first
big drive, it was my first big move on my own. I was moving to Houston for graduate, where I would
be staying in my first apartment. I could not believe it was happening, it seem as if I have waited
forever for this moment.
As I was driving down the highway in the dark not knowing really where I was going, I was still at
peace because I knew this was something wonderful. I could not even think about the fact that I had
only got three hours of sleep the night before. Normally I would have been tired and drained but today
I was full of life and energy. The excitement had taking over me. Driving down the highway with the

Fly By Wire Essay
Aircraft Feature; Fly By Wire Technology Fly by wire is a new technology in aircrafts that has
replaced the manual flight control with electronic controls. In this technology the flight control signals
are converted into electrical signals which are transmitted to the processors through electric wires and
the computer determines the movement of the actuators according to the control command (Crane
2002). Moreover, this system sends out certain commands to the computer without any input from the
pilot, these commands are mainly transmitted for a more stable flight. The fly by wire system also
allows automatic signals sent by the aircraft s computers to perform functions without the pilot s input,
as in systems that automatically help stabilize the aircraft. Mechanical and hydro mechanical flight
controls system comprise of all heavy steel cables, metallic pipes with hydraulic fluid, cables and
pulleys which adds to the air craft total weight thus slowing it down and decreasing its full efficiency.
Both systems frequently need unnecessary backup to tackle mechanical failures, which further
increases weight. Additionally, both have inadequate capability to adjust to changing aerodynamic
conditions. Dangerous maneuverability such as stalling, spinning and pilot induced oscillation (PIO),
which is dependent chiefly on the strength and configuration of the aircraft concerned rather than the
control system itself, can still occur with these systems (Crane 2002). The word

Parents Lying To Their Children About Fictional Characters
Parents Lying to Their Children About Fictional Characters
Parents give constant reminders to their children about how lying is misbehaving and unacceptable,
but parents have been lying or have lied to them for a long period of time. In a 2009 study of
American parents, 78 percent of parents admitted to lying to their children. Another study, executed by
Gail Heyman of the University of California San Diego and her colleagues, found that 84 percent of
the 114 American parents they chose admitted to telling their children lies to promote behavioral
obedience (Smith Is It Okay for Parents to Lie to Their Kids? China s Parents Say Yes 2013). These
behavioral lies, along with tradition, bring about fictional characters to convince the children that if
they comply, they will be rewarded; for example, children must behave year round or Santa will not

ridiculous lies about fictional characters existing to their children.

Bakken Pipeline Spill
Spill, baby, spill: As Sierra Club s Michael Brune puts it, It s not a question if a pipeline will
malfunction, but rather a question of when. And, though they spill less often than trains do, the
International Energy Agency found that pipelines spill much more in terms of volume three times as
much between 2004 and 2012. The Bakken Pipeline s route takes it through active farmland, forests,
and across the heartland s major rivers: The Big Sioux, the Missouri, and the Mississippi, some with
multiple crossings, though the US Fish and Wildlife Service claims that no critical habitat is
endangered. It also runs through sacred Native American lands (more on this below).
Enbridge Inc., a stakeholder in the Bakken pipeline, has a speckled track record on spills. In 2010, an
Enbridge pipeline spilled 1.2 million gallons of crude into the Kalamazoo River, one of the worst
inland spills in American history. Because the pipeline qualifies as a utility (despite being privately

The Importance Of Fate In The Aeneid
Is life pre ordained? In living, are we consciously making decisions that affect how our lives play out
or are people simply characters preforming from a script containing the information of all of time?
This concept of destiny verses human agency is a common thread through the epic poem, The Aeneid
by Virgil as Aeneas is destined to found Rome, and that Rome that he founds is destined to prevail and
be great. In The Aeneid, destiny is inevitable, because fate is inescapable and will come to pass in
spite of interfering situations as demonstrated in the catalogues of the shield of Aeneas and the
characters presented in the Underworld. Fate is unavoidable, but may not occur in the expected
method as demonstrated by Palinurus in the underworld. This is reminiscent of Greek oracle
prophesies of fate in which the fated future will always occur, but the path along the way is unknown
to humans. Palinurus was foretold [to be] unharmed at sea, yet was amongst those who did not have a
proper burial which brings the truth of the prophecy and fate into question. He had tried to escape
being harmed by being a helmsman, but was still killed because it was his fate. Fate got around the
obstacle of him being at sea, by being knocked overboard, [washed] close inshore in other words away
from the sea, and killed by natives (Virgil 998). It important to note that it was specifically mentioned
multiple times in this section that no god had interfered in this ordeal (Virgil 998). This must therefore
be a work of fate that lead to his death.
Fate occurs regardless of human agency as seen in the tales of Romulus and Remus and Manlius and
the goose. Romulus and Remus were abandoned by their human mother and excepted to die, but they
had a fate to fulfil so could not die. They ended up being cared for by a she wolf who is part of the
natural fate world, not the human controlled world (Virgil 1062).
This notion is continued later on the shield when Manlius, a human, was about to be ambushed whilst
sleeping, but was woken up by the silver goose (Virgil 1062). The Gauls [were] swarming the thickets,
about to seize the fortress, shielded by the shadows of night (Virgil 1063). They were ready. The time

The Acropolis Of Athens And Athens Essay
The Acropolis of Athens
Intro
Over the years, the Acropolis of Athens, a large rock with a flat top that overlooks the city with an
elevation of over 500 feet, served a variety of purposes to the people that lived on or near it. Any city
built on an enormous hill can be considered an acropolis, but in today s world, The Acropolis is
associated with the ancient Acropolis of Athens. As stated in the New World Encyclopedia, to some,
the Acropolis of Athens was also known as Cecropia, after the legendary serpent man, Kekrops or
Cecrops, the first Athenian king ( Acropolis ). Most people know the Acropolis of Athens as a place
where ancient Greeks went to pray to their Gods. Although, during the height of Greece s civilization,
the Acropolis was also a meeting and marketplace for citizens to mingle to buy goods, to discuss
politics, and to vote in the first democracy in the world.
History
The Acropolis was home to many inhabitants long before the Greeks lived there. Although the earliest
artifacts of the Acropolis showed that it had been occupied during the Neolithic age, most of the relics
date back to the Mycenaean period (1900 BCE to 1100 BCE) and the Classical period (500 BCE to
330 BCE). During the Neolithic and Mycenaean ages, the residents chose to live there because it was
fairly easy to defend since they could see all of the land around it for miles. After centuries of living
on the Acropolis, many buildings and structures relating to Athena, the Greek Goddess of

The Causes Of The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was a land deal between the United States and France. The United States
acquired approximately 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River for $15 million. In
1762 Spain had controlled Louisiana with a relatively free hand, however, in 1800 Spain signed the
Treaty of San Ildefonso while under pressure. Thomas Jefferson feared that American settlers might
lose access to the port of New Orleans. On April 18, 1802, he wrote a letter saying that There is on the
globe one single spot, the possessor of which is our national and habitual enemy. It is New Orleans...
Thomas Jefferson.
Napoleon decided to abandon his plans for an empire in the New World. The Purchase enclosed
portions of 14 states, and 2 Canadian Provinces. The Purchase involved all of what is now Nebraska,
Arkansas, Iowa, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, and some of Minnesota. In inclusion, the Purchase
contained small parts of land that would someday become part of the Canadian provinces. In the
Purchase, the land covered around 23% of the area of the United States.
At the time of the movement, it faced clam resistance as being possibly unlawful. Jefferson decided to
gain Louisiana because he felt anxious about France and Spain having much more power over the
American trade access than he did. New Orleans was meaningful for transporting goods to and from
the United States. On October 27, 1795, American merchants had the right of deposit. They also used

Citizenfour s Three Stages
Citizenfour is a documentary about Edward Snowden, alias Citizenfour, and his undertaking in
exposing the controversial and intrusive surveillance system used by the National Security Agency
(NSA). The documentary is directed by Laura Poitras, a director and producer of documentary films.
Prior to Citizenfour, she had published a documentary on Iraq War called My Country, My Country
and a documentary on Guantanamo and the war on terror called The Oath. Citizenfour thus became
the third installment in her trilogy on America after the September 11 terrorist attack. There are three
stages to the documentary: (1) Edward Snowden establishing a connection, (2) interviewing Edward
Snowden while publishing news on the NSA s surveillance, and (3) the aftermath of the disclosure of
information.
The first stage, set in early 2013, involves Snowden establishing an anonymous connection with
Poitras and exchanging emails that ascertain his ownership of information on the government spying
on the American citizens. Poitras reads several emails to the audience, ... Show more content on

Question 1 As a leading producer, marketer and importer of wines and distilled spirits, Brown Forman
was the fifth largest distiller in the United States. But the company spent huge amount of money
advertising premium brands and significantly less on low profit brands. In the late 1970 s, the whiskey
market declined and this presented Brown Foreman with growth challenges in a mature market.
Brown Foreman s response to market pressures and competition was to aggressively move into other
faster growing segments of the alcohol beverage market which required it to expand its product lines.
The company also intended to increase its advertising spend to $86 million to aggressively promote its

Dody Dysmorphic Disorder
Body dysmorphic disorder or BDD is a type pf mental illness in which you can t stop thinking about a
flaw in your appearance. You intensely obsess over your appearance and body image, often for many
hours a day. Your perceived flaw causes you significant distress, and your obsession impacts your
ability to function in your daily life. You may seek out numerous cosmetic procedures or excessively
exercise to try to fix your perceived flaw, but you re never satisfied. Body dysmorphic disorder is also
known as dysmorphophobia, the fear of having a deformity. Although the exact cause of BDD is still
unclear, experts believe it is related to problems with serotonin, one of the brain s chemical
neurotransmitters. Poor regulation of serotonin also plays a role in obsessive compulsive disorder
(OCD) and other anxiety disorders, as well as depression Some people may be more prone to
problems with serotonin balance, including those with family members who have problems with
anxiety or depression. This may help explain why some people develop BDD but others don t.
Cultural messages can also play a role in BDD by reinforcing somebody s concerns about appearance.
Critical messages or unkind teasing about appearance as someone is growing up may also contribute
to a person s sensitivity to BDD. But while cultural messages, criticism, and teasing might harm
someone s body image, these things alone usually do not result in BDD. People with BDD obsess over
their appearance

Description Of Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple Sclerosis:
Multiple Sclerosis; also known as MS, is a chronic and degenerative disease that affects the central
nervous system. It is a disease in which the body is attacking its own myelin as if it was a foreign
substance. This disease is currently affecting about 2.3 million people in the world (Tran, 2014).
History of disease:
Multiple sclerosis has existed long before it had a name, just like many other diseases. In 1838, Dr.
Jean Martin Charcot became the first person credited with identifying multiple sclerosis as a disease.
Charcot was a French scientist and physician who is claimed to be the founder of modern neurology. A
female patient of his suffered an unusual combination of symptoms and he tried some of the typical
treatments ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before treatment is possible, it s important to get a proper diagnosis from a doctor. When symptoms fit
the criteria for MS and neurological exams and MRI results show the abnormalities, a proper
diagnosis can be formed. Nutritional therapy is very important for the patient as it gives the patient a
low fat diet to follow to help slow down any progression of the disease. Any type of exercise is
beneficial for MS patients, as well as movement therapy. For patients that are too weak for exercise,
other options such as yoga or water aerobics would be helpful. Aromatherapy would also be very
beneficial where the patient s body can be massaged with essential oils to treat affected areas. It s
important for the patients to do research on the type of treatment that they would prefer to help
become more confortable (Tran, 2014). As well as exercise, it s important to change your diet in
correlation with new medications that the patient would be receiving. Medications such as Avonex has
been seen to help limit the progress of an disabilities from episodes, Betaseron also helped some
patients with reducing the number and severity of relapses (Tran, 2014). All drugs are administered by
injection, and also have significant side effects, which is why it is important to do research to figure

Last Week Tonight By John Oliver

Oliver comedically attacking various people or organizations. With the use of rhetorical devices and

such as reductio ad absurdum, incongruity, caricature, invectiveness, false/weak analogies, and logos
to explain his points.

In order to create a better understanding of the history of dialysis and healthcare, Oliver scholarly
explains, In 1972, something amazing happened. Richard Nixon...signed a bill into law which said the
government would pay for dialysis for anyone that needed it... In order to make his explanations
credible, Oliver incorporates facts which increases his logos and ethos. To expand on the idea of the
kidneys being the sole organ which obtains government funded healthcare, he declares with a picture
of kidneys sitting in the snow of Canada, Your kidneys, and only your kidneys are Canadian! This
statement is another example of incongruity; again, Oliver presents a statement which is contrasts
greatly from the current situation of which he is in. While he is discussing the role government plays
in dialysis, he delivers the idea of kidneys sitting in the snow of Canada, which assists him in his
argument of the government only providing healthcare coverage of the kidneys. Just as the Times
stated in their review of Oliver, [He] is willing to voice genuine passion over his subjects , he voices
his passionate displeasure towards Trump in his President elect Trump segment. Oliver targets Trump
on a specific debate in which he was mistakenly unaware of the nuclear triad, and he critically reveals,

  • 2. The Ministers Black Veil By Nathaniel Hawthorne Many romantic writers focused on the gothic side of romantic literature, from quirky to evil they tend to draw emotions from the viewer. The focused material is The Ministers Black Veil , written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. In the text Mr. Hooper is a preacher who is engaged to Elizabeth and has recently started hiding his face behind a black veil. The townspeople begin to think he s gone mad. He is very loving and caring, but known as living his life without much worries and being a sinful man. While wearing the veil, he preaches and then is buried in it. Before he dies the only person who is not afraid to question Mr. Hooper about the veil is his fiancé. He does not give Elizabeth a clear answer to wearing the veil, which forces Elizabeth to believe he s covering up a committed sin by wearing the veil. Throughout Hawthorne s work there were different actions that his characters portray. These characters are identified as puritans who fought inner demons between lies and their sanity. In other opinions one may refute that Hawthorne s purpose of hiding Mr. Hooper under the veil is just his way of dealing with what he is going through. Hooper does not search for deliverance from his sorrows; instead he resolves to live his life as best he can while dealing with them, a stance that leaves no room for unpredictable deliverance from God (Buchanan 6). Here it states that Hooper is dealing with his issues, even though from the outside he is portraying something else. Although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Suffragette Film Analysis The Suffragette film presents a truthful recount of how women were perceived within society. Throughout society, there was a belief that women do not need to represent their own self; rather they have husbands that will represent their wives (Suffragette 2015). Women are often left in a state of subordination because men are considered to be self centered and are only fully noticed when a male is sexually attracted to her. As a result, women are perceived as sexual objects for the male gender (Solarnis 1968, p.464). As mentioned previously, it was expected that women follow their gender norms of caring for the children and husband and not to stray away from this norm. During the early 20th century, it has been stated that men have authoritative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is clear to see that the women acknowledged the gender inequalities within society and that they should have a right to vote alongside men. The film follows Maud, who is the main character, as she begins to take part in the Suffragette movement. Maud s Suffragette encounter began when she was listening to Mrs Olton s speech, which was utilised in order to get women to voice their struggles, and hope for change. At the time of the speech, Maud was working at the laundry for Mr Taylor, who sexually, emotionally and physically abused the women who were working there. Following Mrs Olton s speech, Maud was forced to give a statement to parliament and she described working at the laundry for Mr Taylor. She stated that the women working in the laundry received aches, chest coughs, crushed fingers, leg ulcers, burns, headaches, and sometimes, poisoned (Suffragette 2015). Additionally, women were paid 13 shillings; whereas men were paid 19 shillings, even though women worked a third more of the hours (Suffragette 2015). Connell s (1987, p.188) research of this time period portrays this truthfulness as he states that women were paid unequally to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Review Of Old Mother Savage Assignment One The Question states: Write an essay about SKILL in the story Old Mother Savage. By skill I mean both the skill and the intelligence that the woman shows in doing what she does, and planning it, and also the skill and intelligence of the writer, de Maupassant. That is to say, how well, and effectively, the writing works, and how it reaches the heart (if it does) and is real. Write as well and as intelligently as you can, and please quote from the story in order to support the points that you make. The definition of Skill: The ability to do something well; expertise. A particular ability. The word skill encompasses a wide variety of meaning in its definition compared to how few words it contains. In the following, I will describe some of the interesting examples of skill and lack of skill that I found throughout the story, Old Mother Savage. I found these examples of skill in the narrator of the story; in the flashback storyteller, Serval; in the main character, Old Mother Savage; as well as in the writer himself, Guy de Maupassant. The Story Narrator s Skill. At the very of the beginning of the story, the reader is greeted with a long description of his surroundings and overall feelings about nature. This was coupled with the recollection that the narrator had when walking, where he remembered having met Old Mother Savage, the ...good woman of the house... (line 31). I believe that this gives the narrator a reason to ask Serval what has happened to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Gnfgj Perhaps the earliest device for working out sums was the abacus. This began as a clay tablet into which grooves were cut. Pebbles were then placed or taken away from grooves to perform addition and subtraction. (Our word calculation comes from the Latin word calculus meaning pebble ). Because the pebbles were likely to become mislaid, they were later replaced by beads threaded on to wires and mounted in a frame. By moving the beads backwards and forwards, addition, subtraction, division and multiplication could be done. They can for example, be used to simulate the behavior of an aircraft in response to the actions of crew members. Using analog computers, apparent equipment failures or other emergencies can be introduced for proper training of the crew. The first automatic analog computer designed to solve complex differential equations, was described in detail in 1876 by the English Scientist William Thomson. Digital Computers: These are used in commerce and industry for extensive arithmetical calculations which would otherwise require enormous clerical effort. Such computers carry out mathematical operations with the variables expressed in the computer as numbers, usually in the binary system (given below). These numbers are recorded in the computer electronically, as a series of temporary magnets, each magnetized in one of the two possible directions. In her book The Phonology of English as an International Language (2000), Jenkins stated that the most universally used lingua franca is English, and there are more non native English speakers compared to native English speakers. • 10. The Authority Of Religious Elites In The 1640s Witch Hunts The Authority of Religious Elites in the 1640s Witch Hunts The large scale witch hunts that occurred from 1638 to 1651 gathered momentum via major happenings in the political, societal, and religious domains developing at the time. Individuals who had either political, religious or economic power in society, also known as elites, together had absolute control over the pursuit and prosecution of individuals who partook in witchcraft. The clergy played a crucial role in the witchcraft prosecutions and were slower than the state and localities to desert their beliefs in the reality of witches as the prosecution of witchcraft was, in their eyes, an effective tool to eradicate social deviance. Though local authorities and the Parliament did contribute to the witch hunts significantly, without the kirk of Scotland declaring and encouraging this sanction on witchcraft, both other parties would not have taken the actions they ultimately did. This essay will provide a brief description of events that took place from 1638 to 1651 and then utilize evidence from a multitude of sources to argue that the religious elites were the most influential of these forces during the witchcraft prosecutions that occurred in the 1640s. • 11. The Pros And Cons Of Modern Monetary Theory Modern monetary theory (MMT) Modern monetary theory explains exclusively how the government, central bank and the commercial banking sector interacts, with some economists arguing that understanding of reserve accounting is critical to understanding monetary policy options. This theory was developed by a group of economist including Randal Wray (2009) and Bill Mitchell. All of the commercial banks will also have an account with the central bank. This permits the banks to manage their reserves that is, the amount of available short term money that a particular bank holds. So when the government spends, treasury will debit its cash operating account at the central bank, and deposit this money into private bank accounts (and hence into the commercial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In most countries, commercial banks reserve accounts with the central bank must have a positive balance at the end of every day; in some countries, the amount is specifically set as a proportion of the liabilities a bank have that is on its customers. This is known as a reserve requirement. At the end of every day, a commercial bank will have to examine the status of their reserve accounts. Those that are in deficit have the option of borrowing the required funds from the central bank, where they may be charged a lending rate which is also referred to as the discount rates on the amount they borrow. In a balanced system, where there are just enough total reserves for all the banks to meet requirements, the short term interbank lending rate will be in between the support rate and the discount rate. Both the Treasury and the central bank are involved in these reserve management operations to maintain interest rate stability (Palley, 2012). This applies to the relationship between the Central Bank of Kenya and its regulatory requirement to maintain a capping that is below 14%. CBK finances commercial banks at much lower rate on their borrowing so that the banks can fix their interest charges on borrowed money at certain percentage that must not exceed the limit set by the ... The publication provides a chronological explanation of the life of Socrates in the following ways. First, Socrates acknowledges that he almost became unaware of his character while addressing the Athen s Populace. The prologue, therefore, creates the direction and the tone of the ensuing dialogue. Thus, the introductory section enables the audience to develop a sense of understanding the character, motives and the perceptions regarding the false accusations of representing a sophist and physicalist ideas. Principally, the explanation of the Socrates and the defense against the false accusations of youth incitement and the devaluation of the human worth introduces the concept of the just and unjust city in the ancient Greek that aimed to heighten the comprehension of the social order and equality. According to the presentation of the speech, a just city accommodates the aspirations of every citizen and provides equal opportunities for everyone to express their view and perform the different tasks. Besides, a tolerant society according to the speech judges a person base on the actions and the morals instead of the predetermined standards that sometimes are incoherent. Hence, Plato s writings significantly enable the role allocation in the society encompassing the ruling elite, the jurymen, and the subjects. According to the perspective of Socrates, he helps the audience to understand his perceptions of life and his roles in the society including enlightening the populace. Hence, the ruling elite as extrapolated in the publication has the obligation of providing rational governance structures and upholding the integrity. Plato s narrative also introduces the next category of the Guardian. In this perspective, he compares Socrates to the horsefly that keeps the animal active without harming the horse. Therefore, the guardians have the responsibility of safeguarding the society from the internal and the external harms and ensuring the sustainability of the future generations. Finally, Socrates perspectives inform the public to ensure ethical decision making to ensure that the working class or persons entrusted with leadership roles do not make quick decisions that harm the critics. Thus, he suggests that the working class of the society should ensure the provision of adequate and accessible commodities and services. In this technology the flight control signals are converted into electrical signals which are transmitted to the processors through electric wires and the computer determines the movement of the actuators according to the control command (Crane 2002). Moreover, this system sends out certain commands to the computer without any input from the pilot, these commands are mainly transmitted for a more stable flight. The fly by wire system also allows automatic signals sent by the aircraft s computers to perform functions without the pilot s input, as in systems that automatically help stabilize the aircraft. Mechanical and hydro mechanical flight controls system comprise of all heavy steel cables, metallic pipes with hydraulic fluid, cables and pulleys which adds to the air craft total weight thus slowing it down and decreasing its full efficiency. Both systems frequently need unnecessary backup to tackle mechanical failures, which further increases weight. Additionally, both have inadequate capability to adjust to changing aerodynamic conditions. Dangerous maneuverability such as stalling, spinning and pilot induced oscillation (PIO), which is dependent chiefly on the strength and configuration of the aircraft concerned rather than the control system itself, can still occur with these systems (Crane 2002). • 24. The Importance Of Fate In The Aeneid Is life pre ordained? In living, are we consciously making decisions that affect how our lives play out or are people simply characters preforming from a script containing the information of all of time? This concept of destiny verses human agency is a common thread through the epic poem, The Aeneid by Virgil as Aeneas is destined to found Rome, and that Rome that he founds is destined to prevail and be great. In The Aeneid, destiny is inevitable, because fate is inescapable and will come to pass in spite of interfering situations as demonstrated in the catalogues of the shield of Aeneas and the characters presented in the Underworld. Fate is unavoidable, but may not occur in the expected method as demonstrated by Palinurus in the underworld. This is reminiscent of Greek oracle prophesies of fate in which the fated future will always occur, but the path along the way is unknown to humans. Palinurus was foretold [to be] unharmed at sea, yet was amongst those who did not have a proper burial which brings the truth of the prophecy and fate into question. He had tried to escape being harmed by being a helmsman, but was still killed because it was his fate. Fate got around the obstacle of him being at sea, by being knocked overboard, [washed] close inshore in other words away from the sea, and killed by natives (Virgil 998). It important to note that it was specifically mentioned multiple times in this section that no god had interfered in this ordeal (Virgil 998). This must therefore be a work of fate that lead to his death. Fate occurs regardless of human agency as seen in the tales of Romulus and Remus and Manlius and the goose. Romulus and Remus were abandoned by their human mother and excepted to die, but they had a fate to fulfil so could not die. They ended up being cared for by a she wolf who is part of the natural fate world, not the human controlled world (Virgil 1062). This notion is continued later on the shield when Manlius, a human, was about to be ambushed whilst sleeping, but was woken up by the silver goose (Virgil 1062). The Gauls [were] swarming the thickets, about to seize the fortress, shielded by the shadows of night (Virgil 1063). They were ready. The time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This statement is another example of incongruity; again, Oliver presents a statement which is contrasts greatly from the current situation of which he is in.
