Redemption
Redemption is defined as the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil. Jean Valjean
shows this type of redemption from the time he gets out of jail until he end of the novel. Jean Valjean
shows the theme of redemption to multiple people, including Cosette, throughout Victor Hugo s book,
Les Miserables, just like Cosette I have been saved by my father. Because of his redemptive nature
and care for Fantine, Jean Valjean chooses to rescue Cosette from the Thenardiers. While most believe
that the Thenardiers were outstanding people for caring for Cosette, they were actually extorting her
for money. If Jean Valjean had not been shown redemption by the bishop in the beginning, he would
have never shown it to Cosette. Since he saved

Policy transformation and technology innovation can strategically create social environment that are
void of health disparities. Health should be a reality for everyone regardless of physical, social, and
economic conditions. Spatial analysis offers insight as to the ways in which one s socioeconomic
status impacts their health and wellbeing. Geospatial mapping can reveal the impact of society as a
whole on health inequalities
The Master of Geospatial Public Health Analysis degree program, offered by the Johns Hopkins
Bloomberg School of Public Health, provides the tools needed to thoroughly analyze our world s

Nestorius And Apollinarianism
During the 3d and 4th centuries controversy among the leaders and population due to the rising
questioning of the humanity and divinity of Jesus Christ. At the beginning of the fourth century, the
First Council of Nicaea was convened to come against the heretical teachings of Arius. Arius, a
presbyter from Alexandria, who along with his followers believed that before [the Son] was begotten
or created or defined or established, he was not for he was not unbegotten and that the Son had a
beginning but God has no beginning. (Bingham, D. Jeffrey. Pocket History of the Church. Downers
Grove, IL: InterVarsity, 2002. Print.) Therefore according to Arius, Jesus Christ was not eternal nor
divine but only possessed divine attributes. As time went on Arianism still was a problem in the
church. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the Council of Constantinople, Apollinarianism, taught by Apollinaris the Younger, Bishop of
Laodicea, which stated that while Christ, the Logos, had been made flesh then He had to have both a

will, there is the presence of sin. This coincided with the Council of Chalcedon with contended against
the heresy of Nestorius and Nestorianism, which sacrificed the unity of Christ s person for the fullness
of deity and humanity. (Bingham, D. Jeffrey. Pocket History of the Church. Downers Grove, IL:

Wall-E Movie Comparison
Jason Gularte Inst. Rebecca Kitzman ENGL 033 February 29, 2016 From Adventure to Saving the
World Nearly everyone has heard the expression Adventure is out there from the movie UP. Although
this film was released a couple years ago it s still that kid friendly movie to watch. Most adults and
children will tell you that it s a must see because of all the adventure that goes on. Wall E, on the other
hand is a movie most people don t mention that much but seem to like the film when they do watch it.
Although the movies Wall E and UP may seem similar, they are actually different because of theme,
setting, symbol. Wall E the movie takes off in a distant, but not so unrealistic, future where mankind
has abandoned earth because it has become covered with trash from products sold by the powerful
multi national Buy N Large Corporation, WALL E, a garbage collecting robot has been left to clean up
the mess. Wall E encounters a reconnaissance robot named Eve who Wall E falls in love with,

The Management Functions Of Planning
This discussion board forum address three important concepts learn in this week s study using
assigned reading and peer reviewed journals. The three concepts discussed are: The Management
Functions of Planning, The Management Functions of Controlling and The Management Functions of
Organizing. The management functions of planning is a crucial function of management as it is setting
goals for specific results and determining how to achieve those results Satterlee (2013). There are
many aspects that impact planning within an organization such as it gives organization direction;
decreases uncertainty; ensures progress toward a goal; allows organization to take corrective actions if
progress is not in alignment with the goal; failing to plan is planning to fail. The basic planning
process determines how to achieve the company objectives as managers take the objectives and work
backward by preparing a strategy and how to implement that particular goal. According to Satterlee
(2013) there are six formal steps that should be taken: 1) situational analysis, 2) generation of
alternative goals and plans, 3) evaluation of goals and plans, 4) selection of goals and plan, 5)
implementation of the chosen goals and plans, and 6) monitoring and controlling of the goals and
plans. Situational analysis determines what the current conditions are and the capabilities in order to
ascertain the plausibility of future plans and strategies. One type of situational analysis is to evaluate

Murray Bowen Family Systems Theory
Introduction Murray Bowen s Family Systems Theory plays a key role in the field of child life. Bowen
viewed families as an emotional system, where each member is intensely connected to the other
members. In order to analyses families and human behavior, Bowen used a set of concepts. These
concepts became part of his family systems theory that we use today. Bowens family systems theory is
made up of a total of eight concepts. These concepts include Triangles, Differentiation of self, Nuclear
Family Emotional Process, Family Projection Process, Multigenerational Transmission Process,
Emotional Cutoff, Sibling Position, and Societal Emotional Process. Using these eight concepts,
Bowen was able to examine families and how they interact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
Some of these goals include Facilitating awareness of how emotional systems function (Brown, 1990).
This is important because it helps clients, families, and children learn about emotional systems work
and function. In addition, another goal is to increase the level of differentiation, the ability to be in
emotional contact with others yet still autonomous in one s own emotional functioning is the essence
of the concept of differentiation (Kerr Bowen. 1988). In other words, being an emotional support
system for family members, but remaining distant with one s own emotions.
As mentioned above, Bowens family system theory is made up of 8 concepts, these concepts are (1)
Emotional Fusion, (2) Differentiation of self, (3) Triangles, (4) Nuclear family emotional system, (5)
Family projection process, (6) Emotional cutoff, (7) Multi generation transmission process, and (8)
Sibling possession. The first concept that helps make up Bowen s family systems theory is Emotional
fusion or lack of differentiation. Emotional fusion is where individual choices are set aside in the
service of achieving harmony within the system (Brown, 1990). According to Brown, Emotional
Fusion can occur in one of two ways, the first can be when an individual feels 100 percent responsible
for others emotions and actions, and the other being a total emotional cutoff from the tension or
feelings within a

As defined by Merriam Webster, Existentialism is, a chiefly 20th century philosophical movement
embracing diverse doctrines but centering on analysis of individual existence in an unfathomable
universe and the plight of the individual who must assume ultimate responsibility for acts of free will
without any certain knowledge of what is right or wrong or good or bad (Merriam Webster).
Logotherapy/existential analysis is based on the premise that within one s self there lies the 1)
Freedom to will, 2) will to meaning , and 3), meaning to life . (Batthyany, Alexander) Meaning to life
as it pertains to classic existential theory and logotherapy, is defined by the individual on a situational
basis. It can vary based on what is essential to the individual and their well being (Existentialism By
Branch/Doctrine, The Basics of Philosophy). Frankl concentrates on what it was that drives people to
live, and determined that those who survived the unspeakable circumstances of the Nazi camps had
been those who focused on the meaning of their lives. Frankl s psychological anthropological model

Power Animal Farm
From the beginning of the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, the audience comes to a realization
that the pigs will become the leading power. This book takes place on Manor Farm where the animals
kickstart the revolution with a rebellion against Mr. Jones. Napoleon pushes his way up to dictatorship
where, while he rules, many lives are lost and in the end human and pig are indistinguishable. The
animals obtain the idea of rebellion after the long night of starvation which is endorsed by the wise
and all powering Old Major who is, a pig. Throughout the novel, the animals actions are determined
by the pigs. They then support the idea that it is best for them to have the power by referring to what

He first shows his corruption through his dishonesty. He tries to cover up his mistakes by adding on
parts to the original Seven Commandments until all of them are changed to lower the animals
suspicion. He then goes to take revenge on the animals associated, or once associated with Snowball,
by using the dogs to violently kill a vast majority of the animals.Furthermore, the existing animals are
put to finish the constructing of the windmill which is how Boxer becomes ill and is sent away in a
van to be sold for whiskey. This shows how the poor actions conclude with the disloyalty of Napoleon
to the most loyal character that lives on the farm. Many rise to power in order to get their way, but in
the end, getting there way all of the time will only ever lead to their own corruption. This relates to
how in history, there is a lot of problems with power within a group since there are always those types
of people that believe they have the ideas and ability to raise the group by themselves while staying
sane. In retrospect, history proves that it is impossible since in the end, those with the power are

Douglas Brinkley s The Boys Of Pointe Du Hoc
Book Review Douglas Brinkley, age 55, is an American author who has more than 20 published
books, including The Boys of Pointe Du Hoc, a book about D Day and America during World War II.
The Boys of Pointe Du Hoc was published in 2005. By that time, Brinkley already had multiple books
under his belt, and his experienced writing helped to give this description of D Day the justice it
deserves. The book begins in the White house, in October of 1981. President Ronald Reagan was
waiting for a visit from French president Francois Mitterand, when his chief of staff informed him of a
prestigious gift from the French government. Reagan was scheduled to meet with them in Yorktown,
Virginia soon. The gift he Reagan would be receiving was at first believed to be the Croix de Guerre, a
military decoration of France. It translates to Cross of War. At first, Reagan did not feel that he had ...

Rudder s Rangers are typically forgotten in history, however they played a crucial part in the D Day
attacks. The Boys of Pointe Du Hoc was an interesting book to read, as the story of the 2nd Battalion
Rangers often goes untold. The author explains that the reason they do not get recognition is because
of a book written about the D Day invasion. The author of that book had investigated Pointe Du Hoc,
looking for where the German outposts were, but they had been destroyed. The author of that book
assumed that Rudder s Rangers had scaled cliffs for no reason, and wrote that in the book. Douglas
Brinkley uses several testimonies from the men who fought with Companies D, E, and F. These
testimonies really bring the book alive, and it helps to tell the tail and connect the reader to the events.
The descriptive tools used by Brinkley display a mental picture that is very detailed. These words are
often used when Brinkley s works, and he is a renowned

Cause And Effect Essay On Drunk Driving
Within the U.S and around the world, drunk driving is a major problem that is slowly destroying the
world around us by making it unstable to the rest of people who do partake in this action by choice or
at all. Drunk driving has done a large amount of damage to almost everything we know from
destroying whole families to making it unsafe for almost anyone to be on the road or close to it
because of these reckless drivers that in some way got behind the wheel of a motor vehicle while in a
drunken state making them a force that is a real danger to anyone. Drunk driving is a serious crime
nowadays and has a hefty punishment to go with it depending on the amount of damage done while
behind the wheel. Taking the action of being behind the wheel while intoxicated is a problem that not
only endangers the driver but everyone around them causing problems for everyone and everything.
There are different types of drunk driving but most have the same outcome in the end being that
something bad ends up happening in the end. In the world today drunk driving is a true problem all
over, this issue is spread across the world causing it to be a major danger to anybody that is in the
pathway of the driver or behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. With drunk driving being such a major
problem all over the world, stats show what places in the world will most likely have drunk drivers on
the road. Currently the country that has the most common occurrence with drunk driving is south
africa. Other countries that are listed after south africa for most common drunk drivers to occur is
canada in second, the U.S in 3rd, australia in 4th, and Italy in 5th, the list goes on. Being the 3rd
country in the world to have the most common drunk driver problems gives the U.S a bad reputation.
Having this be fact shows how bad of a problem that drunk driving really is for not only the U.S but
all over the world, which all cause major problems in some way to the people or the rest of the U.S.
The problem with drunk driving seems to be that people don t think that there is little punishment to
doing it and being caught in the act.
The cause of drunk driving it the amount of drinking that is able to be done nowadays with little risk
the be had for doing

Spoon River Anthology Essay
Spoon River Anthology
The Spoon River Anthology, written by Edgar Lee Masters in 1915, was a unique piece of work in
both style and structure. There are over two hundred stories told by the dead people who once lived in
the town of Spoon River. The lives and dreams of these people are written as poems. The poetry itself
is an excellent example of early modernist style. Since there are many people from many different
backgrounds, and even different generations, (There are examples of Old English spellings and hints
of people being from different decades), there are varied stories and themes present throughout the
Anthology. A lot of the book revolves around the concept of the American dream and ethic, as well as
the puritan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some died happy, but a lot of the poems are bitter.
The ghost of Lucinda Matlock presents one of the overall themes. The woman tells the story of her
hard but full life. Then she expresses her anger toward the living generations petty woes. She states
that Life is too strong for you it takes life to love life. Lucinda s character is based on Edgar Lee
Master s grandmother of the same name, who is buried in the cemetery that inspired the author.
Another thematic poem is that of Yee Bow. Yee Bow was an Asian man who worshipped Confucius.
The people of Spoon River tried to convert him, but he was faithful. One day, without warning, the
clergyman s son hit and killed Yee Bow. Yee was grief stricken, knowing that his progeny could not
worship him while he lie in Spoon River.
Cooney Potter is my favorite character. He tells how he acquired a small piece of land from his father,
and through hard work, he became quite prominent, but never satisfied. Wishing to own two thousand
acres, I bustled through the years with axe and plow, Toiling, denying myself, my wife, my sons, my
daughters... He says that his hard work killed him before he reached the age of sixty. He had achieved
the American dream in the physical sense but he had never taken the time to enjoy it. The prologue
and epilogue are different, in the way that they are omniscient and haunting. The prologue sets the
tone for the rest of the book. The poem is called The

Essay On Peter Pan
Transformation refers to the procedure of thoughtful and radical variations in reference of formation,
appearance as well as character. Transformation is particularly very authoritative because it can never
be resisted by any individuals since it is a thing that is meant to happen regardless of the situation. In
Peter Pan: Or the Boy Who Would Not Grow up Play authored by J.M. Barrie demonstrates how
individuals often visualize childhood as a carefree time and an exciting one without worrying about
the actual world. The word never land is utilized as a representation of fantastical (Barrie and Alton 7).
In this context, individuals tend to embrace the belief that both children fantasies and adult realities
are two major differing words ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is concept of not wanting to grow up is proved throughout the play multiple times. For instance,
he talks with Wendy explaining that he ran away from home saying, I want always to be a little boy
and to have fun (Barrie 15). At the end of the play Peter is terrified to even pretend to be the boy s
father. He says, It is only pretend, isn t is, that I am their father? (Barrie 43). Then in the lines
proceeding he still was questioning Wendy to make sure his role was just pretending because he does
not want any characteristics or responsibilities a grown person has. Wendy, on the other hand, was not
afraid to take on the motherly role of the children. She awakes in the house and the boys ask her to
take on the mother role and she replies, Very well then, I will do my best (Barrie 32). The concepts of
the play follow the relation that exists between children and adults where their worlds are exclusive
mutually as they complement each other (Barrie and Alton 7). There exists a higher association
between Wendy and adulthood which helps show her transformation. This proves Barrie s play was
created to showcase the bond between children as well as adults. This transformation for Wendy is
interesting because she took on a mother role in a child fantasy land that is supposed to be free of
responsibility.
The child does not just grow up but they also understand that at a given period they are expected to
abandon their childish

The Effects Of Climate Change On Africa s Security...
The Lacuna in the Climate Conflict Literature
The extant literature shows two trends. First, a few large N studies which showed strong correlations
between climate and conflict used civil war datasets as the measure of the outcome variable. The use
of an aggregated country level civil war data may be missing the most important features of the
accuracy, degree, and severity of the impact of climate change on Africa s security environment. The
use of civil war and political violence datasets to capture the impact of climate change may produce
misleading outcomes. Unlike civil conflict and political violence, climate related conflicts may be
mirroring the ebb and flow of climatic conditions. Different from civil wars and political violence,
climate related conflicts may become intense during the drier months and recede during the rainy or
wet months of the year. Using aggregated country level civil war datasets to measure climate induced
conflicts misses the important nuances we need to determine cause and effect the causation linking
climate change to violent conflict, and exposes such analysis to the ecological fallacy trap. The
drawback of using aggregated data has been addressed by studies using sub state, micro level data,
and case studies. Most of the studies that used sub state data also reported connections between
climate and conflict, and most were situated in the Horn of Africa or in countries with histories of
volatilities. Finally, there are those who suggested

The Theory Of The Discontinuity Effect Between Japan And...
A number of research have proven that people commonly assumed that intergroup relationships are
more competitive than of interindividual ones, and they also experience competitive intergroup
contacts more often in their daily lives. Kosuke Takemura and Masaki Yuki of Hokkaido University in
Sapporo, Japan conducted an experimental research to test the theory of the discontinuity effect
existing in East Asia as it does in the United States, wherein the participants played a 10 trial prisoner
s dilemma game repeatedly. They initially believed that if East Asians are collectivists, then a group of
East Asians should be more competitive than East Asians individually, and that the discontinuity effect
should be stronger than what was perceived in the United States. This study was an attempt to imitate
Insko et al. s experiment (1990) but using a Japanese sample. The purpose of this was revealed to be
to observe the cross cultural difference, or lack thereof, in the magnitude of the discontinuity effect
between Japan and the United States.
In the experiment, one hundred and sixty (134 male, 26 female) Japanese students from Hokkaido
University participated, which they were randomly drawn from a pool of roughly 1500 students who
volunteered. The experimenters compared the assessments made between two 3 person groups in an
intergroup condition with those made between two characters in the same condition. Hence, each
sessions required eight participants; two participated in the

Lab Partners: Kaliah Goodman, Howsikan Kugathasan, and Suntesia Bowen
Date of Laboratory: September 21, 2016
Goal of Laboratory:
The goal of this laboratory was to successfully make a gel and to run an SDS PAGE and determine
molecular weight (MW) of an unknown protein sample by comparing it to Log10 of the migration of
molecular weight of the standards.
Background:
The purpose of SDS PAGE is to separate proteins according to their size, and no other physical
feature. SDS (sodium dodecyl sulfate) is a detergent (soap) that can dissolve hydrophobic molecules
but also has a negative charge (sulfate) attached to it. Therefore, if a cell is incubated with SDS, the
membranes will be dissolved, all the proteins will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, if we had many copies of two different proteins that were both 298 amino acids long, they
would travel together through the gel in a mixed band. As a result, we would not be able to use SDS
PAGE to separate these two proteins of the same molecular weight from each other. Some possible
errors that occurred during this lab include poorly executing inserting the MW marker solution into
the well of the gel. This caused not so clear bands as shown in figure 1. Incorrect measurements of the
migration could also lead to errors in the data. The molecular weight of the protein was determined by
plotting a graph of the Log MW vs migration (cm) and generating a standard curve. The unknown
sample molecular weight was calculated as 79.43 kD. Experimental errors in this lab could be
minimized by carefully loading the wells on the

working on math problems if we behaved badly. Believe it or not, I chose to stay and work on math
problems even though I was always well behaved. This action (even though it was many years ago)
reflects who I am today. When given the chance, I dont always go out to hang out with friends and
have fun. I mostly stay home trying to get as much homework done as I can. Now homework isn t the
only thing I do with my life. The subjects that I excel most in are Mathematics and English. My grades
in those classes are always above average. I believe that math come very easy to me, and I grasp an

will usually continue working on it until I get the right answer. Math is also something that I enjoy
doing, which can contribute to how much effort and time I put into it. I believe that I have excelled in
English because I have a way with words. I may not be able to express my feelings and thoughts as
well verbally, but writing makes up for it. My style of writing is very candid, and I strike people with
the reality of things. I surprise myself on the subjects I write about that usually bypass my thoughts.

Functional State Of Secondary Structures Essay
Functionally similar proteins (i.e. Orthologous protein BLOCKs) evolve to create amino acid
divergence at locus specific positions (Gaucher, Miyamoto and Benner, 2001; Wang and Gu, 2001).
Different BLOCKs evolve at a different rate. However, for a given family (or BLOCK) it is constant
(Dickerson 1971; Dayhoff and Schwartz, 1978). The divergence, although alters primary sequences,
sequence of secondary structure largely remains unaltered, the one that acts as a determinant for
functional state of proteins of homologous family (Shen, Jones and Mohrenweiser, 1998). The fact
that not all hetero pairs (total 190) contribute equally to the evolution of a BLOCK (Figure 2, A1 and
A2), characterizing their differential role in relation to its properties is of central importance. Further,
it remains a challenge to understand the acquired substitutions at the primary sequence level and the
maintenance of secondary structures for functional state. Present study is an attempt to gain insight
into the mechanism of substitutions based on observed hetero pairs and positional diversity in relation
to protein s structure and function.
3.1. Observed homo and hetero pairs are sensitive parameters in the study of evolution
Henikoff and Henikoff (1992) pioneered the concept of BLOCK and developed BLOSUM series of
fundamental matrices that utilize observed hetero pairs for computation of odd scores. These matrices
(e.g. BLOSUM62) got wide application in Bioinformatics studies []. When identical

Health Between Urinary Bpa Levels And Increased Body Mass
2.3 Adverse effects
2.3.1 Obesity
Several studies indicate that there is an association between urinary BPA levels and increased body
mass in children and adolescents. In a cross sectional analysis , a nationally representative subsample
of 2838 participants aged from 6 to 19 year old were randomly selected, and their urinary BPA
concentration and body mass index (BMI) were measured. They found that the urinary BPA
concentration were significantly associated with obesity in participants, while obesity was not
associated with exposed to other environmental phenols in other commonly used consumer products,
such as soaps and sunscreens (Trasande et al. 2012). Another cross sectional study conducted in China
was also with the aim to investigate the association between BPA exposure and BMI. Multiple linear
regression analyses showed that urine BPA concentrations were significantly correlated with
increasing BMI in school children (Wang et al. 2012a). In addition, there is also epidemiological
evidence that an increased urine BPA concentration is associated with obesity in adults. Wang et al.
(2012b) conducted another cross sectional study based on a sample of 3390 Chinese adults with age
40 years or older. They found there is a positive correlation between urinary BPA concentration and
generalized obesity as well as abdominal obesity in adults.
2.3.1 Diabetes
In animal experiments, there is evidence that the offsprings of pregnant mice treated with BPA

Advances in IT Topics
Advances in IT Topics
In recent years, Information Technology has had advances in big data storage and health information
systems. Big data companies are developing products for storage capacity and support services
growth, with many leveraging local file based storage with object based cloud storage (Coughlin,
2012). And, initiatives in advances for personalized medicine include technologies that link
informatics with genotype and phenotype data to produce custom built solutions to illness (Welch,
2009). Improvements brought by big data include creating more transparency among stakeholders by
making big data more accessible (Manyika, 2011). Having access to and being able to manipulate data
sets enables a different way of decision making to bring more science into management. Companies
can segment and analyze data in near real time. The analysis improves decision making, minimizes
risks, and uncover more insights to enable new innovation. According to (Manyika, 2011), there was
questions as to how corporate marketing functions would need to evolve and how business processes
could change. There was the question of how companies would leverage assets, particularly data
assets, to create more value. There was also a question of how big data might interrupt business
models. Cloud computing moves applications and databases to warehouses and poses new security
challenges, which have not been well understood and many research problems are not yet identified
(Wang, 2009).

I woke up in the middle of the night because I heard my father (John) yelling at the general of the
military (Henry) about how our military was considered weak because the army he had commanded

That on April 30th 1803 he signed a treaty giving the Louisianan territory to the United States making
the US double in size. The Louisiana territory was very important because farmers sailed down the
Mississippi river to New Orleans to sell their crops to other farmers and settlers. Jackson once told me
that Napoleons plan for the Louisiana territory was to have thousands of French farmers settle there.
There were some people who liked the purchase and some that didn t. the people that liked it was
because, the country has now doubled in size making there be more room for settlement and that the
whole Louisiana territory would be carved into new states. The people who didn t like it was because
they thought it would be impossible to govern, and people thought that since it was such a huge
country now that they could get their freedom taken away. That night I was dreaming about how
president Monroe ordered Jackson to Georgia to end the raids, but instead he continued to Florida with
1,700 troops to try and arrest and execute two British subjects. The next day I was making tea for
president Jackson when he was starting to tell me another story. That is 1819 the Spanish government
agreed to yield Florida to the US. But the US had to pay $5 million dollars in settlers. Also in return
the US had to honor Spain s longtime claim to Texas. It was such an interesting story that I had to find

Environmental Factors Influence On Behaviors
On the nature verse nurture debate, it is difficult to choose one side. On one hand biology and genetics
can influence individuals. It can cause them to be more social, have disorders, and even be the cause
of social factors. On the other hand, nurture also has an effect on the behaviors of individuals. Both of
them are scientifically proven to have an effect on an individual s personality and behaviors. There is
evidence that suggest that neither one of them is completely responsible for behaviors, they both play
major roles. From the perspective of a scientist, they may see biological factors to have a stronger
influence, but from a sociologist perspective they may see social and environmental factors as being
more influential. After extensive research, I believe environmental factors have a greater influence on
the behaviors and personalities of individuals.
The debate of whether nature or nurture are the main causes of behavior have been around for years.
In my opinion, environmental factors have a larger influence on an individual s behavior, rather than
genetic factors. The environment that a child is raised in is a key factor in how they are going to
behave as they grow up. A household filled with rude and ignorant members is more likely to produce
a child with the same qualities, than a household of welcoming and respectful people. These morals,
values and beliefs form a system that facilitates decision making throughout the course of an

Bacterial Tannase Enzyme Lab Report
Bacterial tannase enzyme were puriļ¬ed from the 24 h old solid state culture ļ¬ltrate of E. cloacae by
two step puriļ¬cation protocol consisting of ammonium sulfate precipitation (60%) followed by

It was the first day of fall in Collinsville, Illinois and the leaves were gently falling to the ground. The
house was filled with lots of noise and the kids wanted to go outside and play in the leaves, but they
couldn t play in the leaves until they ate lunch. It was the perfect day to play outside. They finished
eating and ran out to enjoy the weather. They played in the leaves as long as they could until they

tongue hanging out and hissing at the kids. It started to get dark and the the kids still played outside
until the kids heard the creepy coyotes howling in the dark woods.

Raising The Minimum Wage Of The United States
Raise the minimum wage: In the United States, studies show that women tend to make up a
disproportionate share of low wage workers. In the field of education, men tends to go more to STEM
than women and that also leads to high paying jobs for men. If we raise the minimum wage, this will
help hardworking women to support their families. Approximately, women made up two thirds of all
minimum wage workers in 2012. With the current federal minimum wage i.e. $7.25 per hour, someone
working full time, only earn $15,080 a year round. People working full time with minimum wage is
still below the poverty threshold for any family with children and single person is also not far above
the poverty line. So, increasing the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour would help increase the
wages for about 15 million women, which will help close the gender wage gap.
Raise the tipped minimum wage: The gender wage gap is vividly observed in tipped workers. The
federal tipped minimum wage, which hasn t been changed since 1991, only pays workers $2.13 per
hour. According to the Economic Policy Institute, women make up two thirds of tipped workers and
are 70 percent of food servers and bartenders, occupations that comprise more than half of the tipped
workforce. Tipped workers have a higher poverty rate than non tipped workers, and 46 percent rely on
government assistance to make ends meet.

How Digestive System Work Together
The digestive system helps the humans break down food and turn it into nutrients. The digestive
system is made up of a lot of different organs such as salivary glands, pharynx, mouth, esophagus,
stomach, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, large intestine, and pancreas. Salivary glands produce
saliva, which keeps the mouth and other parts of the digestive system moist. The pharynx role in the
digestive system is to connect the nose and mouth to the esophagus. The mouth is used for putting in
food and also eating the food. The esophagus has only one function and it is to carry food, saliva, and

treats citizens equally, applies all laws fairly and does not discriminate against any group based on
race, religion, gender and disability. Civil liberties are individual freedoms that restrict the power of
the government in our lives, they are guaranteed in the Constitution and are described in detail in the
Bill of Rights. A great example of a civil liberty is free speech and the right of expression. While free
speech helps citizens to keep the government in check by being able to debate and engage in
conflicting narratives, it provides a voice to express new ideas and avoids censorship which would
otherwise skew information for the benefit of majority. While free speech and symbolic free speech is
protected, even in the case of flag burning, the courts have ruled that if free speech causes an
immediate lawless action of violence, it become an infringement of other people s rights. Sometimes it
is difficult to balance conflicting rights between individual or between individual and the entire
country. Who is to prevail? Who has more rights? In the case of individuals, an example of conflicting
rights is a candidate for election who has the right of privacy but, at the same time, people need to
know about his private affairs to have enough information to make a good determination on casting
their vote. A conflict of rights with society may be the Patriot Act which purpose is

Analysis Of The Hollow Men
A Short Analysis and Discussion for the piece: The Hollow Men In various occasions, the human race
tends to make several mistakes throughout the span of their lives. In the poem, The Hollow Men,
written by Thomas Stearns Eliot, is not exactly the most uplifting of poetic literature. Although, the
poem does have some underlying value to its notion; it emphasizes moral values, responsibility, and a
depiction of the aftermath of World War I. T.S. Eliot depicts the poem s message into five sections; the
first, speaks of a group of individual human beings who are characterized as We are the hollow men,
We are the stuffed men ... Headpiece filled with straw and basically confusing the reader. Eliot is
trying to represent a group of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once more, the emphasis on detail for the individuals is necessary for Eliot to elaborate for the reader
and allow it to create hollowness and sense of emptiness. Lastly, the final section of the poem is the
huge downer of the entire poem. It starts with a nursery rhyme Here we go round the prickly pear
which analyzes the surroundings once again and finally explains the reason for the immobility and
lifeless presence of the individuals. The poem states, Between the motion, And the act, Falls the
Shadow emphasis on the Shadow, which has now taken control of their actions, they cannot even
exist. Eliot actually slowly starts write human expressions but then it quickly dies away with him
depicting how the fate of the human race will fall Not with a bang but a whimper . As a conclusion,
this poem has quite a few ties in with several of Eliot s works and other writers. Vincent Persichetti, a
composer of the Modern Era in music, actually composed a work The Hollow Men for Trumpet and
String Orchestra in 1944, nearly 20 years later since The Hollow Men was actually written. The piece
highly resembles the written work because of how hollow and dissonant the piece is. Persichetti s
talents could be seen in this piece and is most notably one of his finest works. The piece premiered in
1946 for the first and T. S. Eliot later received the

St. Augustine Confessions
The confession of St. Augustine instead of taking a purely autobiographical approach seems to be a
narration of the significant episodes in which God is revealed to Augustine. Writing at a time when
there were no other autobiographies to refer to, the only source that was close to an autobiography was
the epistles of Paul. Augustine s confessions borrow a lot from Paul as he tries to decipher the truth in
the meaning of the scriptures through relating these scriptures to his own life and journey to
Christianity. His is a conversation with a silent partner. While Augustine talks directly to God and not
man, God only responds through actions and not words. In this essay, several incidences in the
Confessions of Augustine will be analyzed showing how they act as a performative exegesis of
Pauline Epistles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tolle lege incidence is seen as an important turning point of Augustine as he turns around his life
and converts to Christianity. Paul in this scripture commands the Romans to behave in a decent
manner, and not engage in sexual immorality and debauchery. Augustine, in this scripture, was jolted
like St. Paul on his way to Damascus. He declared that he would no longer engage in sexual
immorality and that he would never marry like St. Paul . As a former student of rhetoric, Augustine
did not understand why he had to accept such a blunt command without questioning its logical end.
However, the aim of the scripture seemed to be a way of saving him from the evil of rhetoric that he
had been so deeply rooted into. As a result, without questioning, the incidence that followed was his
baptism by Ambrose to become a

Tactical administration in the business world operations is an important aspect. These makes us

2. What would you recommend the Dekan do regarding the Business School s strategic planning
process? What role would you recommend the Dekan play in this process?
The school can get over the difficulties it faces if certain guidelines and measures are followed. The
important solutions include; Communication and consultation. No institution can strive and be
productive without consultation. All business requires a platform whereby communication amongst
the people is involved. Regarding this university, parties involved includes the students, tutors and
other stockholders of the institution. If working platforms to enhance better communication is put in
place, low risks of tussles in the school will be reduced. Also since the Dekan is concerned about the
number of meetings held in the school every year, few meetings which will benefit the university and
as well save cost should be financed as to discourage mismanagement and wasting of university s
funds which can be diverted to help settle other issues of the university. However, If the capital
assigned to the meetings are sufficient to hold up to four or less meetings in a year, communication
amongst the officials should be effective on which of the meetings should be given high priorities or
not. The distribution of funds should be vividly deliberated, and the funding will be properly utilized.
Research in the university is not to be compromised. Also, the research

Legislation regulating home based child carer s and the role of Ofsted the regulatory body
All people working with children are governed by legislation that is in place to protect your children
and the child care provider. In this document I have listed four important legislations that are of
particular importance to home based child care providers and noted how I aim to incorporate them
into my practice. Child care practitioners also have a regulatory body; in England it is Ofsted. This

company who is proven to have unfairly treated any of the protected groups covered by this Act.
Everyone is welcome at my childcare service and we strive to ensure that the children learn about the
importance of inclusion and the acceptance of others. I try to explain that in many cases it can just be
fear of not knowing or understanding but this makes for a fantasic learning experience to discuss and
learn about other peoples religions, cultures and so forth and that differences are good. In our play
room there are many books, puzzles, pictures and other toys that promote the inclusion and acceptance
of all groups of people including disabled, black and other ethnicities and the elderly but to name a
few. You may also like to read the equal opportunites policy.

A Farewell To Arms Rhetorical Analysis
I have a simple philosophy: Fill what s empty. Empty what s full. Scratch where it itches.
(Longworth). In the novel, A Farewell to Arms, Ernest Hemingway conveys this simple philosophy to
tell the story of Frederic s internal battle between love and war. Frederic is internally attempting to fill
the empty void in his heart with love, while simultaneously emptying the overflowing bucket of harsh
memories from war. The itch of every man is the love of a woman, and this itch is especially growing
within Frederic, because, as the musical about men alone at war, South Pacific, states, There is nothing
like a dame. Ernest Hemingway enhances the novel by using several rhetorical strategies such as
simple diction, syntax, foreshadowing, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the novel, the rain is consistently brought up when Catherine reveals All right. I m afraid
of the rain because sometimes I see me dead in it, (Hemingway 126). The rain is not only
foreshadowing, yet it is a metaphor to death. For example, when Aymo, Tenente, Piani, Bonello, and
Frederic were on a road that led to a river (Hemingway 209) , when it began to rain again. Which led
to a shooting between Germans (supposedly) and the men. The constant repetition of rain when death
is present shows the metaphor that rain itself brings to the book. When rain comes, death follows. The
novel ends with Frederic leaving the hospital after Catherine has died, it begins to rain. Since rain is
shown at the end, maybe the author is leaving the reader of the thought of Frederic going downhill in
the future. The presence of rain equates to the presence of death. This use of rain as a metaphor for
death shows Hemingway s attitude through the relationship between Frederic and Catherine. Rain is
temporary, it comes when a cloud overflows with moisture and disappears when the sun shines
brightly, as goes the relationship between the two. It comes and goes, explodes and disappears, just
like the rain from the

The Therapeutic Effects of Music Therapy
AbstractDifferent alternatives are used when providing health care in the medical setting. The
objective of music therapy is to achieve therapeutic effects coinciding with or without the use of drug
therapy. Patients in the hospital setting and at home are utilizing this new wave of therapy. While
opening gates for better communication during treatment, it also helps patients better manage their
illness, disease, or stressful situation. Primarily, music therapy is used for patients suffering with long
term disabilities such as dementia, in crisis situations that have devastating mental effects, in
recovering from surgery, and in the privacy of people s homes. Heard virtually everywhere, music is

Mainstream America was not aware of the potential benefits of music therapy in this situation until
brought to light by The New York City Music Therapy Relief Project. This organization, combined
with over 50 years of practice and research in music therapy, has demonstrated the impact it can have
as a second wave relief in helping to cope with events surrounding a crisis and its aftermath (Music
Therapy, 2004). Having this type of access provides people with a better understanding of the problem
and provides them with a means to fix it. People tend to block out the information or stimuli that is
causing the trauma during a crisis and events are suppressed deep within the brain helping it and the
body cope with this degree of trauma. Music therapy helped to develop a stronger sense of readiness
to cope with day to day stressors and potential future crisis situations (Music Therapy, 2004).
According to the article Music Therapy in Response to Crisis and Trauma (2004), during an eight
month program, seven thousand music therapy interventions were facilitated in schools, senior
centers, healthcare facilities and other locations throughout the New York metropolitan area to help
with coping. Selected groups of programs were geared towards health care workers, counselors, crisis
workers, firemen, and policeman who responded in helping others cope with the event. Therapy
sessions were primarily centered on families recovering from the devastating

Western Versus Indigenous use of Psilocybin
Another clinical study of psilocybin done at the University of Arizona and led by Francisco Morena,
was conducted in 2007 to evaluate the effects of psilocybin on the symptoms of obsessive compulsive
disorder in nine subjects. The researchers addressed two questions: does oral ingestion of psilocybin
lead to an acute decrease in OCD symptoms and is what dose is required to demonstrate significant
reduction in symptoms. The results revealed that when administered in a supportive clinical
environment, psilocybin was safe and well tolerated. The psilocybin was associated with transient
symptomatic reduction of OCD symptoms in subjects with treatment resistance OCD ( ). Although
there is an understanding of the psychedelic mechanism of action of psilocybin, it s not clear exactly
which receptors and pathways are involved in mediating the anti obsessional responses. The intent of
the study was not to conduct psychedelic facilitated therapy, however five of the subjects readily
described their experiences as very psychologically and spiritually enriching and four of the subjects
reported profound positive transcendental experiences such as exploration of other planets, visiting
past life reincarnations and interacting with deities. The results also showed most subjects reporting
symptom reduction experiences a period of relief that extending far beyond the session. In summary,
although there are some gaps in the understanding of how the psilocybin interacts to reduce OCD

  • 2. Redemption Redemption is defined as the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil. Jean Valjean shows this type of redemption from the time he gets out of jail until he end of the novel. Jean Valjean shows the theme of redemption to multiple people, including Cosette, throughout Victor Hugo s book, Les Miserables, just like Cosette I have been saved by my father. Because of his redemptive nature and care for Fantine, Jean Valjean chooses to rescue Cosette from the Thenardiers. While most believe that the Thenardiers were outstanding people for caring for Cosette, they were actually extorting her for money. The three concepts discussed are: The Management Functions of Planning, The Management Functions of Controlling and The Management Functions of Organizing. The management functions of planning is a crucial function of management as it is setting goals for specific results and determining how to achieve those results Satterlee (2013). There are many aspects that impact planning within an organization such as it gives organization direction; decreases uncertainty; ensures progress toward a goal; allows organization to take corrective actions if progress is not in alignment with the goal; failing to plan is planning to fail. The basic planning process determines how to achieve the company objectives as managers take the objectives and work backward by preparing a strategy and how to implement that particular goal. According to Satterlee (2013) there are six formal steps that should be taken: 1) situational analysis, 2) generation of alternative goals and plans, 3) evaluation of goals and plans, 4) selection of goals and plan, 5) implementation of the chosen goals and plans, and 6) monitoring and controlling of the goals and plans. Bowen viewed families as an emotional system, where each member is intensely connected to the other members. In order to analyses families and human behavior, Bowen used a set of concepts. These concepts became part of his family systems theory that we use today. Bowens family systems theory is made up of a total of eight concepts. Using these eight concepts, Bowen was able to examine families and how they interact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these goals include Facilitating awareness of how emotional systems function (Brown, 1990). This is important because it helps clients, families, and children learn about emotional systems work and function. In addition, another goal is to increase the level of differentiation, the ability to be in emotional contact with others yet still autonomous in one s own emotional functioning is the essence of the concept of differentiation (Kerr Bowen. 1988). In other words, being an emotional support system for family members, but remaining distant with one s own emotions. As mentioned above, Bowens family system theory is made up of 8 concepts, these concepts are (1) Emotional Fusion, (2) Differentiation of self, (3) Triangles, (4) Nuclear family emotional system, (5) Family projection process, (6) Emotional cutoff, (7) Multi generation transmission process, and (8) Sibling possession. The first concept that helps make up Bowen s family systems theory is Emotional fusion or lack of differentiation. Emotional fusion is where individual choices are set aside in the service of achieving harmony within the system (Brown, 1990). According to Brown, Emotional Fusion can occur in one of two ways, the first can be when an individual feels 100 percent responsible for others emotions and actions, and the other being a total emotional cutoff from the tension or feelings within a ... There are over two hundred stories told by the dead people who once lived in the town of Spoon River. The lives and dreams of these people are written as poems. The poetry itself is an excellent example of early modernist style. Since there are many people from many different backgrounds, and even different generations, (There are examples of Old English spellings and hints of people being from different decades), there are varied stories and themes present throughout the Anthology. Lucinda s character is based on Edgar Lee Master s grandmother of the same name, who is buried in the cemetery that inspired the author. Another thematic poem is that of Yee Bow. Yee Bow was an Asian man who worshipped Confucius. The people of Spoon River tried to convert him, but he was faithful. One day, without warning, the clergyman s son hit and killed Yee Bow. Yee was grief stricken, knowing that his progeny could not worship him while he lie in Spoon River. Cooney Potter is my favorite character. Transformation is particularly very authoritative because it can never be resisted by any individuals since it is a thing that is meant to happen regardless of the situation. In Peter Pan: Or the Boy Who Would Not Grow up Play authored by J.M. Barrie demonstrates how individuals often visualize childhood as a carefree time and an exciting one without worrying about the actual world. This is concept of not wanting to grow up is proved throughout the play multiple times. For instance, he talks with Wendy explaining that he ran away from home saying, I want always to be a little boy and to have fun (Barrie 15). At the end of the play Peter is terrified to even pretend to be the boy s father. He says, It is only pretend, isn t is, that I am their father? (Barrie 43). Then in the lines proceeding he still was questioning Wendy to make sure his role was just pretending because he does not want any characteristics or responsibilities a grown person has. Wendy, on the other hand, was not afraid to take on the motherly role of the children. She awakes in the house and the boys ask her to take on the mother role and she replies, Very well then, I will do my best (Barrie 32). The concepts of the play follow the relation that exists between children and adults where their worlds are exclusive mutually as they complement each other (Barrie and Alton 7). There exists a higher association between Wendy and adulthood which helps show her transformation. This proves Barrie s play was created to showcase the bond between children as well as adults. • 18. The Effects Of Climate Change On Africa s Security... The Lacuna in the Climate Conflict Literature The extant literature shows two trends. First, a few large N studies which showed strong correlations between climate and conflict used civil war datasets as the measure of the outcome variable. The use of an aggregated country level civil war data may be missing the most important features of the accuracy, degree, and severity of the impact of climate change on Africa s security environment. The use of civil war and political violence datasets to capture the impact of climate change may produce misleading outcomes. Unlike civil conflict and political violence, climate related conflicts may be mirroring the ebb and flow of climatic conditions. Different from civil wars and political violence, climate related conflicts may become intense during the drier months and recede during the rainy or wet months of the year. Using aggregated country level civil war datasets to measure climate induced conflicts misses the important nuances we need to determine cause and effect the causation linking climate change to violent conflict, and exposes such analysis to the ecological fallacy trap. The drawback of using aggregated data has been addressed by studies using sub state, micro level data, and case studies. Most of the studies that used sub state data also reported connections between climate and conflict, and most were situated in the Horn of Africa or in countries with histories of volatilities. Finally, there are those who suggested ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A number of research have proven that people commonly assumed that intergroup relationships are more competitive than of interindividual ones, and they also experience competitive intergroup contacts more often in their daily lives. Kosuke Takemura and Masaki Yuki of Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan conducted an experimental research to test the theory of the discontinuity effect existing in East Asia as it does in the United States, wherein the participants played a 10 trial prisoner s dilemma game repeatedly. They initially believed that if East Asians are collectivists, then a group of East Asians should be more competitive than East Asians individually, and that the discontinuity effect should be stronger than what was perceived in the United States. This study was an attempt to imitate Insko et al. s experiment (1990) but using a Japanese sample. The purpose of this was revealed to be to observe the cross cultural difference, or lack thereof, in the magnitude of the discontinuity effect between Japan and the United States. In the experiment, one hundred and sixty (134 male, 26 female) Japanese students from Hokkaido University participated, which they were randomly drawn from a pool of roughly 1500 students who volunteered. Functional State Of Secondary Structures Essay Functionally similar proteins (i.e. Orthologous protein BLOCKs) evolve to create amino acid divergence at locus specific positions (Gaucher, Miyamoto and Benner, 2001; Wang and Gu, 2001). Different BLOCKs evolve at a different rate. However, for a given family (or BLOCK) it is constant (Dickerson 1971; Dayhoff and Schwartz, 1978). The divergence, although alters primary sequences, sequence of secondary structure largely remains unaltered, the one that acts as a determinant for functional state of proteins of homologous family (Shen, Jones and Mohrenweiser, 1998). The fact that not all hetero pairs (total 190) contribute equally to the evolution of a BLOCK (Figure 2, A1 and A2), characterizing their differential role in relation to its properties is of central importance. Further, it remains a challenge to understand the acquired substitutions at the primary sequence level and the maintenance of secondary structures for functional state. Present study is an attempt to gain insight into the mechanism of substitutions based on observed hetero pairs and positional diversity in relation to protein s structure and function. 3.1. Observed homo and hetero pairs are sensitive parameters in the study of evolution Henikoff and Henikoff (1992) pioneered the concept of BLOCK and developed BLOSUM series of fundamental matrices that utilize observed hetero pairs for computation of odd scores. These matrices (e.g. BLOSUM62) got wide application in Bioinformatics studies []. When identical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Health Between Urinary Bpa Levels And Increased Body Mass 2.3 Adverse effects 2.3.1 Obesity Several studies indicate that there is an association between urinary BPA levels and increased body mass in children and adolescents. In a cross sectional analysis , a nationally representative subsample of 2838 participants aged from 6 to 19 year old were randomly selected, and their urinary BPA concentration and body mass index (BMI) were measured. They found that the urinary BPA concentration were significantly associated with obesity in participants, while obesity was not associated with exposed to other environmental phenols in other commonly used consumer products, such as soaps and sunscreens (Trasande et al. 2012). Another cross sectional study conducted in China was also with the aim to investigate the association between BPA exposure and BMI. Multiple linear regression analyses showed that urine BPA concentrations were significantly correlated with increasing BMI in school children (Wang et al. 2012a). In addition, there is also epidemiological evidence that an increased urine BPA concentration is associated with obesity in adults. Wang et al. (2012b) conducted another cross sectional study based on a sample of 3390 Chinese adults with age 40 years or older. They found there is a positive correlation between urinary BPA concentration and generalized obesity as well as abdominal obesity in adults. 2.3.1 Diabetes In animal experiments, there is evidence that the offsprings of pregnant mice treated with BPA developed glucose ... • 25. Advances in IT Topics Advances in IT Topics In recent years, Information Technology has had advances in big data storage and health information systems. Big data companies are developing products for storage capacity and support services growth, with many leveraging local file based storage with object based cloud storage (Coughlin, 2012). And, initiatives in advances for personalized medicine include technologies that link informatics with genotype and phenotype data to produce custom built solutions to illness (Welch, 2009). Improvements brought by big data include creating more transparency among stakeholders by making big data more accessible (Manyika, 2011). Having access to and being able to manipulate data sets enables a different way of decision making to bring more science into management. Companies can segment and analyze data in near real time. The analysis improves decision making, minimizes risks, and uncover more insights to enable new innovation. According to (Manyika, 2011), there was questions as to how corporate marketing functions would need to evolve and how business processes could change. There was the question of how companies would leverage assets, particularly data assets, to create more value. There was also a question of how big data might interrupt business models. Cloud computing moves applications and databases to warehouses and poses new security challenges, which have not been well understood and many research problems are not yet identified (Wang, 2009). ... • 34. Environmental Factors Influence On Behaviors On the nature verse nurture debate, it is difficult to choose one side. On one hand biology and genetics can influence individuals. It can cause them to be more social, have disorders, and even be the cause of social factors. On the other hand, nurture also has an effect on the behaviors of individuals. Both of them are scientifically proven to have an effect on an individual s personality and behaviors. There is evidence that suggest that neither one of them is completely responsible for behaviors, they both play major roles. From the perspective of a scientist, they may see biological factors to have a stronger influence, but from a sociologist perspective they may see social and environmental factors as being more influential. After extensive research, I believe environmental factors have a greater influence on the behaviors and personalities of individuals. The debate of whether nature or nurture are the main causes of behavior have been around for years. In my opinion, environmental factors have a larger influence on an individual s behavior, rather than genetic factors. The environment that a child is raised in is a key factor in how they are going to behave as they grow up. A household filled with rude and ignorant members is more likely to produce a child with the same qualities, than a household of welcoming and respectful people. These morals, values and beliefs form a system that facilitates decision making throughout the course of an individuals life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the field of education, men tends to go more to STEM than women and that also leads to high paying jobs for men. If we raise the minimum wage, this will help hardworking women to support their families. Approximately, women made up two thirds of all minimum wage workers in 2012. With the current federal minimum wage i.e. $7.25 per hour, someone working full time, only earn $15,080 a year round. People working full time with minimum wage is still below the poverty threshold for any family with children and single person is also not far above the poverty line. • 44. Rights And Civil Rights Civil rights are the rights granted from our government to the citizens to make sure that government treats citizens equally, applies all laws fairly and does not discriminate against any group based on race, religion, gender and disability. Civil liberties are individual freedoms that restrict the power of the government in our lives, they are guaranteed in the Constitution and are described in detail in the Bill of Rights. A great example of a civil liberty is free speech and the right of expression. While free speech helps citizens to keep the government in check by being able to debate and engage in conflicting narratives, it provides a voice to express new ideas and avoids censorship which would otherwise skew information for the benefit of majority. While free speech and symbolic free speech is protected, even in the case of flag burning, the courts have ruled that if free speech causes an immediate lawless action of violence, it become an infringement of other people s rights. Although, the poem does have some underlying value to its notion; it emphasizes moral values, responsibility, and a depiction of the aftermath of World War I. T.S. Once more, the emphasis on detail for the individuals is necessary for Eliot to elaborate for the reader and allow it to create hollowness and sense of emptiness. Lastly, the final section of the poem is the huge downer of the entire poem. The poem states, Between the motion, And the act, Falls the Shadow emphasis on the Shadow, which has now taken control of their actions, they cannot even exist. Eliot actually slowly starts write human expressions but then it quickly dies away with him depicting how the fate of the human race will fall Not with a bang but a whimper . As a conclusion, this poem has quite a few ties in with several of Eliot s works and other writers. Vincent Persichetti, a composer of the Modern Era in music, actually composed a work The Hollow Men for Trumpet and String Orchestra in 1944, nearly 20 years later since The Hollow Men was actually written. The piece highly resembles the written work because of how hollow and dissonant the piece is. Persichetti s talents could be seen in this piece and is most notably one of his finest works. The piece premiered in 1946 for the first and T. S. Eliot later received the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. St. Augustine Confessions The confession of St. Augustine instead of taking a purely autobiographical approach seems to be a narration of the significant episodes in which God is revealed to Augustine. Writing at a time when there were no other autobiographies to refer to, the only source that was close to an autobiography was the epistles of Paul. Augustine s confessions borrow a lot from Paul as he tries to decipher the truth in the meaning of the scriptures through relating these scriptures to his own life and journey to Christianity. His is a conversation with a silent partner. While Augustine talks directly to God and not man, God only responds through actions and not words. In this essay, several incidences in the Confessions of Augustine will be analyzed showing how they act as a performative exegesis of Pauline Epistles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a former student of rhetoric, Augustine did not understand why he had to accept such a blunt command without questioning its logical end. However, the aim of the scripture seemed to be a way of saving him from the evil of rhetoric that he had been so deeply rooted into. As a result, without questioning, the incidence that followed was his baptism by Ambrose to become a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. A Farewell To Arms Rhetorical Analysis I have a simple philosophy: Fill what s empty. Empty what s full. Scratch where it itches. (Longworth). In the novel, A Farewell to Arms, Ernest Hemingway conveys this simple philosophy to tell the story of Frederic s internal battle between love and war. Frederic is internally attempting to fill the empty void in his heart with love, while simultaneously emptying the overflowing bucket of harsh memories from war. The itch of every man is the love of a woman, and this itch is especially growing within Frederic, because, as the musical about men alone at war, South Pacific, states, There is nothing like a dame. Ernest Hemingway enhances the novel by using several rhetorical strategies such as simple diction, syntax, foreshadowing, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the novel, the rain is consistently brought up when Catherine reveals All right. I m afraid of the rain because sometimes I see me dead in it, (Hemingway 126). The rain is not only foreshadowing, yet it is a metaphor to death. For example, when Aymo, Tenente, Piani, Bonello, and Frederic were on a road that led to a river (Hemingway 209) , when it began to rain again. Which led to a shooting between Germans (supposedly) and the men. The constant repetition of rain when death is present shows the metaphor that rain itself brings to the book. When rain comes, death follows. The novel ends with Frederic leaving the hospital after Catherine has died, it begins to rain. Since rain is shown at the end, maybe the author is leaving the reader of the thought of Frederic going downhill in the future. The presence of rain equates to the presence of death. This use of rain as a metaphor for death shows Hemingway s attitude through the relationship between Frederic and Catherine. Rain is temporary, it comes when a cloud overflows with moisture and disappears when the sun shines brightly, as goes the relationship between the two. It comes and goes, explodes and disappears, just like the rain from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Western Versus Indigenous use of Psilocybin Another clinical study of psilocybin done at the University of Arizona and led by Francisco Morena, was conducted in 2007 to evaluate the effects of psilocybin on the symptoms of obsessive compulsive disorder in nine subjects. The researchers addressed two questions: does oral ingestion of psilocybin lead to an acute decrease in OCD symptoms and is what dose is required to demonstrate significant reduction in symptoms. The results revealed that when administered in a supportive clinical environment, psilocybin was safe and well tolerated. The psilocybin was associated with transient symptomatic reduction of OCD symptoms in subjects with treatment resistance OCD ( ). Although there is an understanding of the psychedelic mechanism of action of psilocybin, it s not clear exactly which receptors and pathways are involved in mediating the anti obsessional responses. The intent of the study was not to conduct psychedelic facilitated therapy, however five of the subjects readily described their experiences as very psychologically and spiritually enriching and four of the subjects reported profound positive transcendental experiences such as exploration of other planets, visiting past life reincarnations and interacting with deities.
