This document summarizes four existing racing and platformer games that provide inspiration for the creator's own game. It describes key features of each game such as graphics style, gameplay mechanics, level design, and how they appeal to audiences. The creator notes they aim to replicate aspects of the games' pixelated graphics and racing gameplay. Key features like changing character appearances and progressively harder levels with new obstacles between each are also of interest. The document concludes with a research analysis on commonalities between the games and which elements the creator plans to include in their own work.

2. Existing Product
This is New Star GP. This is a top down racing game
that is in the style of Formula One. This game
includes liveries of the teams at the time of
making of the game, it also includes tracks from
that calendar of races. The game follows your car
going through the tracks from a birds eye view.
This game is similar to my game as I want to make
a birds eye view racing game in the theme of
Formula One. The game has a good level of depth
from choosing what tires to race with to being
able to activate DRS to catch up to cars ahead of
you. The game has a good aesthetic with details
like tire barriers and stands with spectators. The
game can take you through a whole season in an
Formula One career, going through each race in
the calendar. This game appeals to the audience
by providing a lot of detail in the whole game to
give the game an authentic feel to it. The game
also includes a good soundtrack in the menu and
also provides authentic track sounds. E.g, Engine
and crowd
3. Existing Product
This is another top down racing game but very different from
New Star GP this game includes a more pixel/8-bit style to it.
The tracks are made by the creator of the game. In addition
this game has less detail to New Star GP with the cars being
Formula themed but not being the right length. This game
appeals to the audience as the game is very simple and as the
audience is playing this game on a mobile they expect a
simple yet effective game. The game does a have some good
features for a mobile game. For example, the map in the top
left, the lap time above the game and the environment. The
environment features things like gravel traps, grass and tire
barriers. Overall this game is good for a mobile game, it gives
what the user wants from the game.
Ideas I will use from this game will be mainly the art style of
the game with the little pixel formula cars. The whole idea of
the car going around the track will be hard for me to create
so I wont be attempting that.
4. Existing Product
This game is a very popular mobile game, Geometry dash is
a platformer game where you have to navigate your square
through the levels that getting progressively harder. Each
level includes a new obstacle that alters the level. These
levels are all very colourful and eye catching. In addition to
the levels being unique with their colour, they also have
their own soundtrack that makes the level enjoyable and
addictive. This game appeals to the target audience as it
makes every level fresh and new as it provides a new
soundtrack and colour scheme every level. Each level has its
own difficulty. Another feature that the game offers is the
option to unlock certain characters/designs of your square
and also colours that you can change of your square.
I will use lots of these features in my game. For example,
the feature where you can change the appearance of your
character. Also I will be using the feature of the game
getting progressively harder every level and adding a new
object every level to keep the game fresh and exciting
5. Existing Product
This is super pixel racers. It is a very interesting
racing game with a lot of really good features. The
game has a really good depth to it with lots of
detail added to a 2D game. The game has a good
depth perspective which makes it look like its 3D.
The environment is very nice and I like the depth
and art style to the environment with the tyre
barriers and the metal barriers.
Overall I want to try and replicate the overall style
of the game with the racer aspect and trying to
dodge oncoming objects, and I will also take
inspiration from the art style with the pixilated
cars.
6. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
– all these products I have researched have a common
art style that I like, also most of them include the
feature of racing which I appeal to.
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
I will use mainly the art style of these products in
my end product but also the type of game like the
racing genre.
