Continuity And Summary Of Chapter 5 Oswalt
which is the worldview of continuity or correspondence. Continuity is a philosophical principle that
asserts that all things are continuous with each other. 4 There are many versions of this idea, but the
core is the same. Myth relies on the rationale that all things are continuous with each other. No matter
which definition is used, the Bible is not a myth.
Chapter 3: Continuity: The Basis of Mythical Thinking
As Oswalt revealed in the other chapters the worldview is continuity, myth s distinct character, and it
is pantheistic in nature. This means, there is no fundamental distinction between the three realms:
humanity, nature, and the divine. 5 Oswalt verbalizes in this chapter, those who believe this concept,
the visible world is a reflection of the invisible (divine) world. What happens to one in the divine,
happens to them in the world, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Visual merchandising and the creation of discernible retail brands The Authors Shona Kerfoot, Shona

In doing this, the research is focused on the potential psychological and behaviour outcomes that
result from customer interaction with visual merchandising, rather than directly trying to establish
what constitutes best practice per se or manipulating visual merchandising techniques themselves. The
context chosen for investigation is female fashion in the UK. This particular retail sector was chosen
as it has recently elevated visual merchandising to an issue of board level concern (Lea Greenwood,
1998). Given this situation the sector affords an ideal context in which to investigate the impact of
such cues on customers, as the degree of retailer sophistication in this area is likely to be higher than
that displayed by organisations in other sectors. Within the female fashion sector the department store
was selected as the specific venue for investigation. This is because it offers distinctive merchandising
possibilities for a number of brands both retail and clothing based. Here, the retail brands are derived
from those stores that source and display own brand assortments, and the clothing based brands stem
from either a manufacturing or design base. Within the department store these brands are
merchandised within their own concessions in a way that holds a number of extraneous variables
constant for example, building type or specific shop location. This makes the use of such a research
context advantageous as it minimises the

Essay On Should The Uk Leave The European Union
The United Kingdom made the right choice to leave the European Union, because they no longer have
to pay membership fees, it makes it harder for terrorists to get in, and they can gain more
independence. The UK left because they didn t want to pay membership fees to the EU. The UK will
saving money not have to pay membership fees. According to Full Fact, The UK pays more into the
EU budget than it gets back. ( The UK and EU Membership Fees, 2017) This is saying that when the
UK paid the EU, they did receive money but they gave the EU more, than what they got. In 2016 the
UK spend £13.1 billion in membership fees to the EU. Overall the UK got back £4.5 billion of that, so
in the end the UK loses £8.6 billion. This fact shows that leaving the EU would save money because
the UK wouldn t have to pay these fees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rob Wainwright, chief of Europol said, Up to 5,000 terrorists trained by Islamic State in the Middle
East are now back in Europe. This is certain to be a gross underestimate and anyway these numbers
will grow. Many are experienced killers. While we remain in the EU these terrorists have the right to
come freely into our country (UK). This means that there are a lot of terrorists in europe and the
number will keep growing, being a part of the EU will give them the freedom to come into the UK.
This makes it easier for terrorists to get inside the UK and cause damage. The UK doesn t want
terrorists, so by leaving the EU terrorist from the EU can t just walk in. The last reason that the UK
made the right choice is the United Kingdom gains more independence. The UK wanted more
independence when they left, they wanted to make their own trades and

What Is The Impact Of Childhood Experiences In Early...
There are a lot of elements could influence people s attitude and philosophy, especially the
experiences that they had when they were young. In this essay, I am going to talk about my childhood
experiences and make links to how aspects of my childhood impacted who I am. I will also mention
how these experiences affect my role as an early childhood educator (ECE), how these experiences
impact my work with children and families.
When I was young, my parents do not allow me to play outside freely with other friends for most of
time. In Chinese culture, people should be quiet. Talking loudly, shouting and screaming are not
accepted in our country, even just for children. Besides, when I was playing outside, my parents
always told me Do not run, do not jump. It is dangerous, stay away from that. Chinese children are
just supposed to do quiet activities, such as reading. In most of traditional Chinese parents minds,

I think that children could learn and accept new things by themselves, they do not need caregivers
distraction. Because of the distraction of my caregivers in my childhood, I could not do something that
I really want to do, such as play with the sand and water, I am not allowed to do these kind of messy
play, which is really a big regret for me. I would also encourage children to play outside, I believe that
children could develop more and learn more when they are moving and actually touching, rather than
be taught. Children learn by their senses and play outside could provide children the environment to
feel by their own. For parents, I would like to advice them to provide children more free play time.
Moreover, they could also give children more encouragement to help them build self esteem and be

William Arthur s Court And Monty Python And The Holy Grail
Most Arthurian novels involve a violent conflict with multiple knights. In the cases of A Connecticut
Yankee in King Arthur s Court and Monty Python and the Holy Grail violence is taken to the extreme
to show how knights are allowed to get away with killing innocent people as long as they are from
Camelot. This idea is expressed multiple times throughout the book and movie and used in a rather
humorous way. In the book, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court, a few instances occur
where violence is overdone. One is when Hank is dueling Sir Sagramore in front of everyone. Hank
isn t skilled with the sword, so instead of learning how to use it or finding a new weapon, he uses a
lasso. This is comical because a lasso is what a cowboy uses to catch and tie up his cattle. The use of
the lasso in this situation brings Sir Sagramore to the same ontological level as animals while also
putting himself higher on the ontological hierarchy. After he defeats Sir Sagramore with the lasso the
other knights jump in and try to fight Hank as well. This does not go well for them as they are also
defeated. The only thing that can stop such a silly weapon is Merlin who takes it away from Hank.
The knights think they can finally kill Hank until he pulls out a revolver and shoots Sir Sagramore in
the head. One would think everyone would be upset and a bit shocked, but no one does anything about
it. Instead of being mad that the knightly code of honor was violated, everyone just lets Hank

The Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) prohibits an employer from discriminating
against a qualified individual with a disability. Employers are required to modify spaces to
accommodate those with disabilities, such as installing ramps, unless the cost of doing so would cause
undue hardship. They must also make other reasonable accommodations such as providing user
friendly equipment and modifying training programs and schedules (Cascio Aquinis, 2011). The
EEOC offers resources for employers to help them understand and comply with ADA laws (The U.S.
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 2008). Sexual harassment can fall under two categories,

Business Organization Shareholders vs Social Responsibility
ABSTRACT
In this essay, I am going to prove that a business organization should be socially responsible in a
successful or an effective manner which will eventually benefit the company s owners or shareholders.
I will do so through illustrating the different potential effects of a business organization engaging in
Corporate Social Responsibility ( CSR ). The effects that will be shown in this essay would be an
increase and decrease in the company s expenses, sustaining and harming the environment, increase
and decrease in sales and customers, improve the lives of people inside and outside the company, and
the practice of social irresponsibility. I will also be providing actual companies engage in CSR, and its
effects on each company. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They practice being socially responsible and encourage their clients to do so as well by signing with
their company. The companies Director of Sustainability, Garratt Hasenstab said that their clients are
willing to work with them because the company is focused on creating a healthier and productive
world (Thorpe, 2013).
Companies can also change a certain process or activity in their production to reduce their greenhouse
gas emissions. An example of this is Cisco, a manufacturing company of network equipment. The
company s vision is to reduce greenhouse gas emission in each of their business functions and
processes to build environmental sustainability. After 5 years, they were able to reduce the greenhouse
gas emissions by 25 percent, save $500,000 from reducing their business travels, and through the use
of well known collaborative tools, they were able to increase its revenue by 30 percent (Cisco Systems
Inc., 2014). This illustrates that companies practicing CSR can reduce expenses and increase sales
after a certain amount of years after the implementation of CSR which increases the profit of the
company that benefits the owners or shareholders.
However engaging in CSR is being ethical and sensitive towards the things around the company, it can
also instigate some kind of social irresponsibility. There are entities that try to pursue socially
responsible agendas but end up behaving in a socially irresponsible way

Rhetorical Analysis Of West Point Speech
General Douglas MacArthur delivered this speech on May 12, 1962, while accepting the Sylvanus
Thayer Award at his beloved alma mater West Point military academy. During this speech, General
MacArthur reflects on his life and accomplishments as an old man, and he tells the young cadets what
West Point s motto, Duty, Honor, Country, has meant to him in his life. Throughout this speech, Gen.
MacArthur uses various repetitions, emotional appeals, symbols, and moving imagery to show the
audience the true power of West Point and this motto. General Douglas MacArthur s performed his
duties in service to this country for over 60 years, from 1903 when graduated with the highest honors
from West Point until the day he died in 1964. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Korean war broke out in June of 1950, MacArthur quickly dispatched troops to meet the
invading North Koreans. By late October, due to the incredible commanding of these forces, the
invaders had been pushed back almost to the Chinese boarder. (Funk Wagnalls) Through all of this
incredible and impactful combat experience, MacArthur saw terrible tragedies and incredible
victories. It is from these intense life experiences that MacArthur draws on when writing this speech.
General Arthur MacArthur was truly a man who devoted his life to this belief in country he loved and
the institution that helped him become the great man he was. For this acceptance speech, MacArthur
chooses to focus on the motto of West Point, duty, honor, country , as the center of his speech. This is
an extremely well chosen topic because the majority of his audience are the West Point Cadets who
will be instilled with these three words during their time at the academy. MacArthur s goal is to inspire
these cadets, and to show them the power that adhering to this model and the ideals of the academy
can have on ones life. To do this most effectively MacArthur begins with an idea that will work to add
to the credibility of his entire argument. This idea is that the speaker possess neither that eloquence of
diction, that poetry of imagination, nor that brilliance of metaphor to tell you all

my reply was instantly dance! . From that moment forward I completely fell in love with ballet, and a
couple of years ago I decided I would like to see myself grow up to become a professional ballerina.
Before researching my topic, I already knew ballet was very hard on the body and is a very demanding
art form. I also knew everything about the different movements, technique, and posture but I didn t
know much more about the diets involved and all the hours that are included to become a professional

Essay on A Short History of the Basque Country
A Short History of the Basque Country
Archaeological and ethnographic findings indicate that Basque [people] evolved from Cro Magnon
[...] in this area over a period dating from about 40,000 years ago until distinct features were acquired
approximately 7,000 years ago. Two thousand years later the sheep, not native to these lands, was
introduced and horse and cattle farming came into being, as shown by Adolf Staffe. These
circumstances made it necessary for the people to travel periodically and cultural contacts were thus
made. This period in the history of the Basque people can only make sense if it is studied in

P. Villasante says that the Basques, in calling themselves Euskaldunak (those who speak Basque
[Euskera]) and the country Euskalerria , i.e. Basque speaking country, are making cultural history in
that it is the language that has moulded and given the Basque people a sense of unity, a sense of being
a nation. Antonio Tovar comfirms this and explains the situation by saying that the Basques did not
take part in the battles between Carthaginians and Romans; Silius Italicus refers to the fact that there
were Basque soldiers in Hannibal s armies. The Basque only intervened to defend Sertorius, the
Roman general who had shown respect for them. The relationship between Romans and Basques was
cordial: Pompey founded Pompaelo, Pamplona, in the settlement that was Iruna (the city in Basque).
Roman influence further north was less evident, however. This meant that the Basque language
survived in its entirety, with its multiple influences.
In the third and fifth centuries the Basques defended themselves against the Barbarians who came
south to the Iberian Peninsula. After fighting the Germanic Swabian tribes, they went into battle
against the Visigoths. The latter gained several victories over the Basques and founded Victoriacum in
the year 581 in the proximity of present day Victoria, which was in turn founded by Sancho the Wise

Dealing with Change in Life
We all have dealt with change at one point in our life. Change comes in many ways from having a new
baby being born to transitioning to a new career. What I call this is forces of change. Secondly is how
we process that change. It may simple and it may not be simple. Lastly once you process the change
you are then able to manage change. If you manage change you will not be as stressed if you let it take
over you.
Change is never when you are ready. Yes you may plan to move to a new home or new state but you
are still dealing with stress. The majority of us have change come to us when we are not ready. The
most change that we have in our life is that of career change or work changes. We see it every day
businesses may close or merge with another business. This is a big deal because people need to look
for a new job or plan to retire. This change would be consider planned change. (Nelson Quick, 2013
p.668). Another change is that when managers are changed at your job. Managers come and go in a
company. Many managers will move up in the company and many will pursue a different career. This
is tough for employees to deal with because they get use to working in one direction until someone
new comes in. This is consider to be unplanned change. (Nelson Quick, 2013 p668). Many companies
do change as a globalize style. To me having a globalize style of change is planned and unplanned. I
say this because the company knows where they are moving or when they are moving, but no one

To your horrification the young street vendor is engulfed in flames. Yes Mohamed Bouazizi did set
himself on fire as to commence this revolution in Tunisia. This sparked another chain of events which
had some horrifying effects on both the political and economic scenarios of the entire northern Africa.
This revolution can be deemed a failure on multiple streams of thought ranging from economic to
political. To structurally analyze the extent of this man made failure lets logically sort out the key
events of the uprising. It all commemorated with a jury of self obsessed egotistic individuals who
ruled. In January 2012 Ben Ali the political ruler of Tunisia gave in to the public s demands and fled
the country. This key event sparked hope in the minds of people with the message that toppling the
Arab regime is not an impossible task. And this is where most of the problems began.
Until here the riots were relatively peaceful. When riots started in Bahrain Saudi Arabia saw it their
moral obligation send forth troops to assist their neighbors. Following this the public saw no option
but to resort to violence and vandalism. This had yet another ripple effect on not only the masses of
surrounding countries but also on their governments. This only aggravated with the bombing of
Tripoli and the killing of Gaddafi. Some political leaders saw it wise to flee their nations such as that
of Yemen but some leaders were just persistent.

The following is a critique of the article Good Times, Bad Times: Memories of The Third Reich by
Ulrich Herbert. In this critique, I will explore the themes of the article, discuss the main arguments,
and address the significance of the author s insight to the world of Nazi Germany. Ulrich Herbert s
Good Times, Bad Times is about the contrast between the ways typical working Germans perceived
the years before and during Hitler s appointment as Chancellor, his rise to dictator, and during and
after and World War II. The article cites a survey conducted by the Institut für Demoskopie (Public

normal times, then, clearly leave behind few experiences that are imprinted on the memory and

Mount Tambora Essay
Introduction In Sumbawa, Indonesia, a composite volcano erupted. Volcanic ash, tephra, hardened
lava, and pumice escaped the stratovolcano, and climbed into the atmosphere to the height of two to
three times as much as the average aviation flies. Piercing shrieks of petrification and excruciation
could be heard from far away, yet it was immediately lulled by an abrupt silence. Kilometres away,
people s responses differed to the phenomenon s noise. British generals deployed soldiers and rescue
boats since they could not decide if it was cannons firing or a distress call from an unfortunate boat.
Evidently, they found nothing. They thought it was a clever trick, however; little did they know it was
an international environmental crisis that would further deteriorate their colossal empire. This was the

by the White House states, We welcome a China that takes on a responsible leadership role in working
with the United States and the international community to advance priorities like economic recovery.
My concern is whether this is a goal shared by China due to their numerous interactions with other
nations in the region. When it comes to the global economy, this much is true: 2009 was China s year.
In the first decade of the 21st century, China established itself as the world s workshop. The next
decade (if things go right) could see China emerge as the world s leading exporter of capital and
military muscle. China (not including Hong Kong) has become the largest trading partner of Taiwan
and the second largest trading partner of Japan. The hope is increased economic trade between these
nations will elevate some of the political tension recently experienced. The Peoples Republic of China
(PRC) has become South Korea s largest foreign investment destination and largest export market.

Visual Analysis Of The Minoan
This piece of art was created sometime between 1500 1450 BCE during the New Palace Period of the
Minoan culture. The Minoans lived on Crete, which is the largest of the Greek islands. Although the
Minoan people lived during the Bronze Age, their works of art encompassed many different styles and
media.
The Minoan octopus flask is a ceramic flask or jug made in Palaikastro, Crete, and stands at 11 inches
high. It appears to be completely spherical with a foot on the bottom to keep it upright and two
handles, one on each side of the neck, going from the rim to the body. While there is solidity in the
vessel itself, there is fluidity in the movement and energy in the lines of the artwork that gives the
viewer the impression that the octopus is

Dr. Prentice has to catch the 10 p.m. flight to Geneva, so he has to decide before then. The artificial
deadline provides automatic suspense and keeps the action within a short span of time. Another scene
which speaks a lot about Dr. Prentice s state of mind is when he talks to his parents on the phone both
at the airport and in the study of Mr. Drayton. He s clearly uncomfortable while he is telling his
parents about the lady in his life. The facial expressions, nervousness and sweat on his forehead all
suggest that he is uncomfortable. In fact he s not comfortable about telling them that she s not African
American on the phone and prefers a less confrontational way of doing so by writing to them about it.
After news has been broken to both Mr. and Mrs. Drayton, their first conversation about the recent
development is in Mr. Drayton s study. First thing to observe is that when they are with each other
they are much more relaxed and completely comfortable with each other. They are not shy of
expressing their feelings to each other and in fact for the first time Mrs. Drayton expresses her
approval or atleast a no objection to the marriage. She is proud of her daughter s choice and the fact
that the values that they have taught her have not gone amiss in their daughter. It s during this
conversation that Dr. prentice enters the study and tells Joanne s parents about the importance of their
approval for the marriage. This scene shows Dr. Prentice at

The Characteristics Of Rosalind Franklin
2. To what extent did the personalities of each of the three scientists affect the way in which they did
their research? (10)
Rosalind Franklin.
Rosalind Franklin was a very independent woman, and was very stubborn. This led her to be a loner in
her scientific research. She had some close friends in Paris especially, but she did not form the
argumentative relationships and did not benefit from the constructive criticism that James Watson and
Francis Crick could. (Robinson A, 2012)
Franklin was intelligent, assertive, and directly confrontational, which made it difficult for her to work
with other scientists should they make mistakes or be slower than her in finding solutions. This was
one of the reasons why her relationship with Maurice Wilkins deteriorated at King s she was highly
critical and he was shy and submissive. (Elkin L, 2009)

How did the structure of DNA identified by Watson and Crick differ from the model previously? Do
you think Rosalind Franklin received enough acknowledgement for her work from Watson and Crick?
Give reasons for your answer. (5)
Linus Pauling proposed a structure of DNA before Watson and Crick, in 1952. He suggested that the
structure of DNA was a three chain helix, bonded with hydrogen bonds. His model had placed the
sugar and phosphate components of the nucleotide in the centre of the triple helix. He also believed
that the nitrogenous bases were facing out of the helix and not inside. (Paulingblog.wordpress.com,
2009) The problem with this model however, was that it was impossible to have so many negatively
charged phosphates in the centre of the helix without it blowing itself apart.
(Paulingblog,wordpress.com, 2009)
The Watson and Crick model of the structure of DNA differed from this in the sense that it was a
double helix, the nitrogenous bases were on the inside of the helix and the phosphate and sugar groups
were on the outside of the helix. These were all bonded with hydrogen bonds. (Biography.com,

Essay On Forest Acres
Like many communities, Forest Acres is a community that has strengths and capacities that make the
area unique. In terms of safety this community is working to provide a safe environment for residents.
According to Forest Acres (2017), it is reported that the community had very few violent crimes with
only one murder, three rapes, eleven robberies, and forty six assault crimes. Therefore, it can be
concluded the community is striving to meet the goal of keeping residents safe from violent crimes so
they can live in the community without the worry of becoming a victim. Although violent crimes are
limited, Forest Acres experiences more property crimes when compared to South Carolina s average.
The chances of becoming a victim of property crime in Forest Acres is 1 in 19, with South Carolina as
a state being only 1 in 30. Therefore, it is assumed this is an upscale community that is vulnerable to
break ins and is working to find solutions to help residents keep their belongings safe from burglaries.

Forest Acres, South Carolina (2017), Forest Acres real estate is some of the most expensive in South
Carolina, although Forest Acres home values aren t among America s most expensive. Therefore, it is
assumed that housing units are overpriced; making it difficult for low income families to live in the
area. Transportation and affordable housing is something many families with low income would not

A Narrative Essay About Working With A Special Person
Working with people, especially those who have complex disabilities has been my passion since my
teens. My 1st experience working with someone who was nonverbal and had autism was babysitting
my neighbor; this experience started me on my life path. Since then I have been a special education
teacher, a director of an independent living center, a school based Occupational Therapist, an Assistive
Technology consultant and Related Services Supervisor. I hold a BS in Special Education, an MOT in
Occupational Therapy and am enrolled in the Continuing Administrative License s program at
Portland State University.
I am a hard working, dedicated and creative thinker. I believe in finding the simplest solution to any
problem in ways that meet all party s needs. This past year I was involved with establishing a new
way to transition students from Early Childhood to Kindergarten. Although the process was well laid
out through the ESD, there were several issues to navigate on the school district side. Working with

Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act Essay
Child abuse and neglect incidence rates are approximately ten times higher than the incidence rates for
cancer. The incident rates for child abuse and neglect are 40 children per 1,000 children every year.
The incidence rates for cancer patients are 3.9 people per 1,000 people every year. According to Frank
Putnam (2005), We find an incidence rate for child abuse and neglect that is about ten times as high as
the incidence rate for all forms of cancer...There is a multi billion dollar research base reliably
renewed on an annual basis for cancer treatment and prevention. Nothing remotely similar to this
exists for child abuse and neglect (p. 1). The 2001 federal fiscal year budget was $3.74 billion for the

This adds to be an annual cost of approximately $56 billion to the victims and taxpayers. CAPTA is
supported by the government by keeping it a regulated policy as well as monetary support by grants.
(The Leadership Council on Child Abuse and Interpersonal Violence, 2005). While children benefit
most from CAPTA, entire families benefit as well. CAPTA has raised awareness for child abuse and
neglect. This makes it easier for families to recognize when suspicious activities occur, which gives
the members of the families an opportunity to help the child before large amounts of harm occur.
Children are the intended beneficiaries of CAPTA. They are well represented by the act through
defining child abuse as well as the reauthorizations and changes in the policy to prevent child abuse
and neglect. As the policy advances, children will be better represented. This will provide many
opportunities to help even more children into safety. CAPTA is an example of change brought about
by conflict. Although this tends to mean conflict between political parties, that is not how it is meant
in this situation. Here, the conflict is the abuse by the parent to the child. Society saw the issue and
government stepped in. They had excellent decision making skills to bring this policy to action. The

What Is The Mood Of The Scream
Through analysis of Edvard Munch s painting The Scream , the mood is portrayed as tense and
frightful. This mood is achieved through facial expressions, bold and contrasting colors, body
language, and the elements of lines. In the painting the facial expressions and body language convey a
negative mood. In The Scream a distorted skeletal figure with a ghastly face is drawn with his hands
over his ears and mouth agape. The terrified being conveys a frightful mood due to the contortions of
his face and hand positions. In addition, the painting includes an array of bold and contrasting colors.

Abortion Should Be Restricted
The number of abortions today is almost 1.5 million a year, which is about 30% of all pregnancies
(McConnell). Too many women are getting abortions as a means of birth control. The Supreme Court
needs to restrict abortions to women who have been raped, been victims of incest, if the child will die
at a young age, or if the woman s health is in danger. By reading this paper, the reader will gain an
understanding of why abortions need to be restricted. Although abortions are necessary they need to

The fact that her baby was conceived by a means of rape or incest would haunt her for the rest of her
life. Furthermore, what are incest victims supposed to do once they give birth? She would, potentially,
have to see the man who impregnated her, almost, on a daily basis, at least until she s old enough to
move out of the house. Even then, she may still have to see her dad, or her uncle, or whoever the
assailant was, in the future. Incest pregnancies are not common, but they do happen hundreds of times
a year in the United States, and therefore they are something that need to be recognized by the media
better. Congressman George Miller once said Don t turn the disgusting, violent, solitary acts of rape
into a gang rape by the congress of the U.S. The third exception to a child being aborted is if the child

of certain diseases can be obtained as early as ten weeks. The parents with a disease stricken baby
usually wish to spare the baby a life of hardship rather then prolonging the child s ill fated life. If the
child will die at a young age, why not save it the agony by ending his life before it begins? The idea is
that certain disorders are so serious that there is no point attempting to prolong the child s life

Empire Rising Character Analysis
Michael Briody, one of the bravest characters in Empire Rising, has a history of fighting for Britain in
World War I and also for the IRA during the Irish Civil War. Having a history of violence made him
perfect for moving to New York and becoming an assassin for the IRA. Briody works on the Empire
State Building to cover his illegal action with the IRA. He will later realize the significance of
working on the building. The building gives Briody the chance to figure out what he really seeks for in
life. Later in the novel he falls in love with Grace Masterson as they share a familiar past. His love
towards Grace helps him want to make a change in his life and leave all of his devastating past behind.
Through Briody s tough battles and love for Grace, he realized that he would want to find a change in
his life. Briody develops a considerable passion working on the Empire State Building. He labels the
feeling as crazy, but loves knowing that he s part of building something real for people to admire.
Most people might think it s crazy, but I love the work... (189) This quote further explains how Briody
develops the dedication making it the only thing he looked forward to in the day. The dedication he
has creates the personality of being a hard worker. There came a point in the novel where regardless
any injuries was willing to work. Working on the building was dangerous, even when Briody smashed
his finger, it was no excuse for him to miss work. This brings to believe that

According to When China Ruled the Seas (chapter nine to eleven), Imperial China was undergoing

Pantheon And The Gods
Pantheon means all of the Gods. The first Pantheon was built in 27 B.C., but it burned to the ground in
80 A.D. Titus then became Rome s Emperor and rebuilt Agrippa s work, but it, too burned down in
about 110 AD. Consequently, it was then rebuilt in 126 A.D. The purpose of the Pantheon is unknown,
but from what we know today it suggests that it was used as a temple. Whether people worshiped
there or the emperor made appearances there is unknown. On the facade of the Pantheon, there are
words inscribed in latin that in English read Marcus Agrippa son of Lucius, having been consul three
times made it. This was a dedication to commander Marcus Agrippa who had built the original
Pantheon. Below the main inscription is a smaller one indicating the restorations carried out by
Septimius, Severus and Caracalla in 202 CE and reads, with every refinement they restored the
Pantheon, worn by age (translated to english).Though in my journey to the inside, it was interesting
that the inside of the Pantheon looked nicer than the outside and that this was indeed done deliberately
. What I was most impressed by what they layout of the circular part of the building which is
entranced via two bronze doors and the interior is further lightened by five rings of 28 coffers which

European Imperialism Dbq
The Europeans all scrambled to colonize Africa for t s raw materials and land. THey had justified it as
the White Man s burden. They believed that is was their responsibility as a more developed race to
help Africa catch up in technology, government, economics etc. Rhodes even said, and that the more
of the world we inhabit, the better it is for the human race. (Doc, 1) With this mindset, Europeans
colonized Africa and started to export raw materials such as rubber, diamonds, gold, palm oil etc.
White man s burden led to Imperialism because they thought taking over other countries was the only
to help them move forward. In doing so, they also spread their power and influence throughout the

Fascism And Anti Rationalism
Fascism has an anti character it is defined by what it opposes. Discuss.
Fascism as an ideology is opposed to much of what many perceive as belonging in a modern society
such as its anti Semitic, anti race and anti rationalist beliefs. In contrast, fascism is also accustomed to
having many beliefs that it is positive towards such as Ultranationalism, Expansionism and
Corporatism. Therefore, Fascism does have an anti character as it is defined by what it opposes.
Fascism is anti rationalist and counter enlightenment which was a very late nineteenth century policy.
The enlightenment was based on the ideas of universal reason, natural goodness and progress. It was
committed to liberating humans from the darkness of irrationalism and superstition. Friedrich
Nietzsche proposed that humans are motivated by powerful emotions rather than their rational mind
which he called will to power . Many Fascists instead believe in vitalism where organisms gain
characterises from instinct rather than reason. Anti rationalism has influenced fascism in many ways.
Firstly, it gave fascism anti intellectualism reflected in its tendency to go straight into action. For
example, Mussolini s favourite slogans included action not talk and inactivity is death . Secondly, by
abandoning the standard of universal reason fascism placed its faith in history alone. For example,
Mussolini promised to take Italy back to the time of the Roman Empire. While Hitler created a Third
Reich to follow

The American Red Cross (ARC)
The American Red Cross (ARC) has long faced multiple ethical dilemmas associated with various
aspects of its operations. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been closely scrutinizing the
organization related to its blood donation services (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2015). In Canada, over
1,000 people; mostly hemophiliacs dependent on life saving blood clotting products, have been
infected by HIV tainted transfusions and more than 500 Canadian hemophiliacs have subsequently
died of AIDS as a result of contaminated blood from the Red Cross (Grace, 1995). These accusations
were related to mismanagement of screenings and blood collections as well as failing to discard
potentially unsafe donations. Many speculate that these issues arose ... Show more content on

After the debacle with the blood, they development and implementation of standardized and more

the Code of Business Ethics and Conduct in January of 2007 now requires that all employees read and
sign the two page document stating and acknowledging understanding of the company s expectations.
They also implemented a 24 hour anonymous call line where anyone can call to voice concerns about
the organization. They also published an Ethics Rules and Policies statement that outlines the details
about how business will be conducted regarding business funds, property, allocation of time,
addressing conflicts of interest, recordkeeping and the handling of media inquiries (Ferrell, Fraedrich,
Farrell, 2015). While those are all effective tools to manage what has happened in the past, the ARC
will also need to ensure that they are not allowing anything to damage their reputation going forward.
To do this, they will need to be diligent in their hiring practices; ensuring that they are following the
same policy and procedures for each employee and that expectations are laid out regarding ethical
behavior from the very beginning of employment. They will need to, at least yearly, revisit ethical
responsibility topics with all employees to keep those skills fresh and on the forefront of everyone s

  • 2. Continuity And Summary Of Chapter 5 Oswalt which is the worldview of continuity or correspondence. Continuity is a philosophical principle that asserts that all things are continuous with each other. 4 There are many versions of this idea, but the core is the same. Myth relies on the rationale that all things are continuous with each other. No matter which definition is used, the Bible is not a myth. Chapter 3: Continuity: The Basis of Mythical Thinking As Oswalt revealed in the other chapters the worldview is continuity, myth s distinct character, and it is pantheistic in nature. This means, there is no fundamental distinction between the three realms: humanity, nature, and the divine. 5 Oswalt verbalizes in this chapter, those who believe this concept, the visible world is a reflection of the invisible (divine) world. Visual merchandising and the creation of discernible retail brands The Authors Shona Kerfoot, Shona Kerfoot is based at Matalan Retail Ltd, Skelmersdale, UK. Barry Davies, Barry Davies is Assistant Dean (Research) at the University of Gloucestershire Business School, Cheltenham, UK. Philippa Ward, Philippa Ward is Principal Lecturer, at the University of Gloucestershire Business School, Cheltenham, UK. Abstract This research presents the results of an initial investigation on visual merchandising and its effects on purchase behaviour and brand recognition. In doing this, the research is focused on the potential psychological and behaviour outcomes that result from customer interaction with visual merchandising, rather than directly trying to establish what constitutes best practice per se or manipulating visual merchandising techniques themselves. The context chosen for investigation is female fashion in the UK. This particular retail sector was chosen as it has recently elevated visual merchandising to an issue of board level concern (Lea Greenwood, 1998). Given this situation the sector affords an ideal context in which to investigate the impact of such cues on customers, as the degree of retailer sophistication in this area is likely to be higher than that displayed by organisations in other sectors. Within the female fashion sector the department store was selected as the specific venue for investigation. This is because it offers distinctive merchandising possibilities for a number of brands both retail and clothing based. Here, the retail brands are derived from those stores that source and display own brand assortments, and the clothing based brands stem from either a manufacturing or design base. Within the department store these brands are merchandised within their own concessions in a way that holds a number of extraneous variables constant for example, building type or specific shop location. This makes the use of such a research context advantageous as it minimises the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Should The Uk Leave The European Union The United Kingdom made the right choice to leave the European Union, because they no longer have to pay membership fees, it makes it harder for terrorists to get in, and they can gain more independence. The UK left because they didn t want to pay membership fees to the EU. The UK will saving money not have to pay membership fees. According to Full Fact, The UK pays more into the EU budget than it gets back. ( The UK and EU Membership Fees, 2017) This is saying that when the UK paid the EU, they did receive money but they gave the EU more, than what they got. In 2016 the UK spend £13.1 billion in membership fees to the EU. Overall the UK got back £4.5 billion of that, so in the end the UK loses £8.6 billion. This fact shows that leaving the EU would save money because the UK wouldn t have to pay these fees. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is certain to be a gross underestimate and anyway these numbers will grow. Many are experienced killers. While we remain in the EU these terrorists have the right to come freely into our country (UK). This means that there are a lot of terrorists in europe and the number will keep growing, being a part of the EU will give them the freedom to come into the UK. This makes it easier for terrorists to get inside the UK and cause damage. The UK doesn t want terrorists, so by leaving the EU terrorist from the EU can t just walk in. There are a lot of elements could influence people s attitude and philosophy, especially the experiences that they had when they were young. In this essay, I am going to talk about my childhood experiences and make links to how aspects of my childhood impacted who I am. I will also mention how these experiences affect my role as an early childhood educator (ECE), how these experiences impact my work with children and families. When I was young, my parents do not allow me to play outside freely with other friends for most of time. In Chinese culture, people should be quiet. Talking loudly, shouting and screaming are not accepted in our country, even just for children. Besides, when I was playing outside, my parents always told me Do not run, do not jump. • 7. William Arthur s Court And Monty Python And The Holy Grail Most Arthurian novels involve a violent conflict with multiple knights. In the cases of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court and Monty Python and the Holy Grail violence is taken to the extreme to show how knights are allowed to get away with killing innocent people as long as they are from Camelot. This idea is expressed multiple times throughout the book and movie and used in a rather humorous way. In the book, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court, a few instances occur where violence is overdone. One is when Hank is dueling Sir Sagramore in front of everyone. Hank isn t skilled with the sword, so instead of learning how to use it or finding a new weapon, he uses a lasso. This is comical because a lasso is what a cowboy uses to catch and tie up his cattle. The use of the lasso in this situation brings Sir Sagramore to the same ontological level as animals while also putting himself higher on the ontological hierarchy. After he defeats Sir Sagramore with the lasso the other knights jump in and try to fight Hank as well. This does not go well for them as they are also defeated. The only thing that can stop such a silly weapon is Merlin who takes it away from Hank. The knights think they can finally kill Hank until he pulls out a revolver and shoots Sir Sagramore in the head. One would think everyone would be upset and a bit shocked, but no one does anything about it. Instead of being mad that the knightly code of honor was violated, everyone just lets Hank ... Business Organization Shareholders vs Social Responsibility ABSTRACT In this essay, I am going to prove that a business organization should be socially responsible in a successful or an effective manner which will eventually benefit the company s owners or shareholders. I will do so through illustrating the different potential effects of a business organization engaging in Corporate Social Responsibility ( CSR ). The effects that will be shown in this essay would be an increase and decrease in the company s expenses, sustaining and harming the environment, increase and decrease in sales and customers, improve the lives of people inside and outside the company, and the practice of social irresponsibility. The companies Director of Sustainability, Garratt Hasenstab said that their clients are willing to work with them because the company is focused on creating a healthier and productive world (Thorpe, 2013). Companies can also change a certain process or activity in their production to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. An example of this is Cisco, a manufacturing company of network equipment. The company s vision is to reduce greenhouse gas emission in each of their business functions and processes to build environmental sustainability. After 5 years, they were able to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent, save $500,000 from reducing their business travels, and through the use of well known collaborative tools, they were able to increase its revenue by 30 percent (Cisco Systems Inc., 2014). This illustrates that companies practicing CSR can reduce expenses and increase sales after a certain amount of years after the implementation of CSR which increases the profit of the company that benefits the owners or shareholders. However engaging in CSR is being ethical and sensitive towards the things around the company, it can also instigate some kind of social irresponsibility. Rhetorical Analysis Of West Point Speech General Douglas MacArthur delivered this speech on May 12, 1962, while accepting the Sylvanus Thayer Award at his beloved alma mater West Point military academy. Throughout this speech, Gen. MacArthur uses various repetitions, emotional appeals, symbols, and moving imagery to show the audience the true power of West Point and this motto. It is from these intense life experiences that MacArthur draws on when writing this speech. General Arthur MacArthur was truly a man who devoted his life to this belief in country he loved and the institution that helped him become the great man he was. For this acceptance speech, MacArthur chooses to focus on the motto of West Point, duty, honor, country , as the center of his speech. This is an extremely well chosen topic because the majority of his audience are the West Point Cadets who will be instilled with these three words during their time at the academy. MacArthur s goal is to inspire these cadets, and to show them the power that adhering to this model and the ideals of the academy can have on ones life. To do this most effectively MacArthur begins with an idea that will work to add to the credibility of his entire argument. Two thousand years later the sheep, not native to these lands, was introduced and horse and cattle farming came into being, as shown by Adolf Staffe. Villasante says that the Basques, in calling themselves Euskaldunak (those who speak Basque [Euskera]) and the country Euskalerria , i.e. Basque speaking country, are making cultural history in that it is the language that has moulded and given the Basque people a sense of unity, a sense of being a nation. Antonio Tovar comfirms this and explains the situation by saying that the Basques did not take part in the battles between Carthaginians and Romans; Silius Italicus refers to the fact that there were Basque soldiers in Hannibal s armies. The Basque only intervened to defend Sertorius, the Roman general who had shown respect for them. The relationship between Romans and Basques was cordial: Pompey founded Pompaelo, Pamplona, in the settlement that was Iruna (the city in Basque). Roman influence further north was less evident, however. This meant that the Basque language survived in its entirety, with its multiple influences. In the third and fifth centuries the Basques defended themselves against the Barbarians who came south to the Iberian Peninsula. After fighting the Germanic Swabian tribes, they went into battle against the Visigoths. What I call this is forces of change. Secondly is how we process that change. It may simple and it may not be simple. Lastly once you process the change you are then able to manage change. If you manage change you will not be as stressed if you let it take over you. Change is never when you are ready. Yes you may plan to move to a new home or new state but you are still dealing with stress. The majority of us have change come to us when we are not ready. The most change that we have in our life is that of career change or work changes. We see it every day businesses may close or merge with another business. This is a big deal because people need to look for a new job or plan to retire. This change would be consider planned change. (Nelson Quick, 2013 p.668). Another change is that when managers are changed at your job. Managers come and go in a company. Many managers will move up in the company and many will pursue a different career. This is tough for employees to deal with because they get use to working in one direction until someone new comes in. This is consider to be unplanned change. (Nelson Quick, 2013 p668). CAPTA is supported by the government by keeping it a regulated policy as well as monetary support by grants. (The Leadership Council on Child Abuse and Interpersonal Violence, 2005). While children benefit most from CAPTA, entire families benefit as well. CAPTA has raised awareness for child abuse and neglect. This makes it easier for families to recognize when suspicious activities occur, which gives the members of the families an opportunity to help the child before large amounts of harm occur. Children are the intended beneficiaries of CAPTA. They are well represented by the act through defining child abuse as well as the reauthorizations and changes in the policy to prevent child abuse and neglect. As the policy advances, children will be better represented. This will provide many opportunities to help even more children into safety. CAPTA is an example of change brought about by conflict. Although this tends to mean conflict between political parties, that is not how it is meant in this situation. Here, the conflict is the abuse by the parent to the child. Society saw the issue and government stepped in. They had excellent decision making skills to bring this policy to action. The law is very important in the politics of CAPTA. She would, potentially, have to see the man who impregnated her, almost, on a daily basis, at least until she s old enough to move out of the house. Even then, she may still have to see her dad, or her uncle, or whoever the assailant was, in the future. Incest pregnancies are not common, but they do happen hundreds of times a year in the United States, and therefore they are something that need to be recognized by the media better. Congressman George Miller once said Don t turn the disgusting, violent, solitary acts of rape into a gang rape by the congress of the U.S. The third exception to a child being aborted is if the child has a disease which involves an early death or absence of cognitive developmental capacity. Detection of certain diseases can be obtained as early as ten weeks. The parents with a disease stricken baby usually wish to spare the baby a life of hardship rather then prolonging the child s ill fated life. If the child will die at a young age, why not save it the agony by ending his life before it begins? The idea is that certain disorders are so serious that there is no point attempting to prolong the child s life (Cunningham). The overwhelming majority of women who discover they re carrying a ... • 33. Pantheon And The Gods Pantheon means all of the Gods. The first Pantheon was built in 27 B.C., but it burned to the ground in 80 A.D. Titus then became Rome s Emperor and rebuilt Agrippa s work, but it, too burned down in about 110 AD. Consequently, it was then rebuilt in 126 A.D. The purpose of the Pantheon is unknown, but from what we know today it suggests that it was used as a temple. Whether people worshiped there or the emperor made appearances there is unknown. On the facade of the Pantheon, there are words inscribed in latin that in English read Marcus Agrippa son of Lucius, having been consul three times made it. This was a dedication to commander Marcus Agrippa who had built the original Pantheon. Below the main inscription is a smaller one indicating the restorations carried out by Septimius, Severus and Caracalla in 202 CE and reads, with every refinement they restored the Pantheon, worn by age (translated to english).Though in my journey to the inside, it was interesting that the inside of the Pantheon looked nicer than the outside and that this was indeed done deliberately . What I was most impressed by what they layout of the circular part of the building which is entranced via two bronze doors and the interior is further lightened by five rings of 28 coffers which reduce in size as they rise towards the center of the dome. Presently, the Pantheon is used as a church which is what is was being used for since 608 A.D. Masses are held there every Sunday. It also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Fascism And Anti Rationalism Fascism has an anti character it is defined by what it opposes. Discuss. Fascism as an ideology is opposed to much of what many perceive as belonging in a modern society such as its anti Semitic, anti race and anti rationalist beliefs. In contrast, fascism is also accustomed to having many beliefs that it is positive towards such as Ultranationalism, Expansionism and Corporatism. Therefore, Fascism does have an anti character as it is defined by what it opposes. Fascism is anti rationalist and counter enlightenment which was a very late nineteenth century policy. The enlightenment was based on the ideas of universal reason, natural goodness and progress. It was committed to liberating humans from the darkness of irrationalism and superstition. Friedrich Nietzsche proposed that humans are motivated by powerful emotions rather than their rational mind which he called will to power . Many Fascists instead believe in vitalism where organisms gain characterises from instinct rather than reason. Anti rationalism has influenced fascism in many ways. Firstly, it gave fascism anti intellectualism reflected in its tendency to go straight into action. For example, Mussolini s favourite slogans included action not talk and inactivity is death . Secondly, by abandoning the standard of universal reason fascism placed its faith in history alone. For example, Mussolini promised to take Italy back to the time of the Roman Empire. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been closely scrutinizing the organization related to its blood donation services (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2015). In Canada, over 1,000 people; mostly hemophiliacs dependent on life saving blood clotting products, have been infected by HIV tainted transfusions and more than 500 Canadian hemophiliacs have subsequently died of AIDS as a result of contaminated blood from the Red Cross (Grace, 1995). While those are all effective tools to manage what has happened in the past, the ARC will also need to ensure that they are not allowing anything to damage their reputation going forward. To do this, they will need to be diligent in their hiring practices; ensuring that they are following the same policy and procedures for each employee and that expectations are laid out regarding ethical behavior from the very beginning of employment.
