The Poetry of e.e. cummings Essay
The Poetry of e.e. cummings
The poems to come are for you and for me and are not for most people.
it s no use trying to pretend that mostpeople and ourselves are alike. Mostpeople have less in common
with ourselves than the squarerootofminusone. You and I are human beings;mostpeople are snobs.
Take the matter of being born. What does being born mean to mostpeople? Catastrophe unmitigated.
Socialrevolution. The cultured aristocrat yanked out of his hyperexclusively ultravoluptuous
superpalazzo, and dumped into an incredibly vulgar detentioncamp swarming with every conceivable
species of undesirable organism. Mostpeople fancy a guaranteed birthproof safetysuit of
nondestructible selflessness. If mostpeople were to be born twice ... Show more content on

They miss his satirical views, his beautiful observations, and his skillful choice of words. This lack of
respect for the importance of individual words prompted Cummings attack of most people. His
bitterness is directly related to his struggle to get this particular collection of poetry his seventh
published.
Edward Estlin Cummings has always had an affinity for language. Early in life he penned a couplet,
which illustrates his reliance on the power of simple observation:
O, the pretty birdie, O; with his little toe,toe,toe! (Norman, 1958, p. 26)
This appreciation for one s ability to observe and interpret was influenced by Cummings upbringing.
Born on October 14, 1894, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Edward Estlin had the gift of caring,
intelligent, progressive parents. His father, Edward, graduated from Harvard in 1883, with a degree in
philosophy. He then studied at Oxford, with the Reverend Samuel A. Barnett and Professor Estlin
Carpenter (who made enough of an impression on the young Edward to cause him to choose to name
his son after him.) Edward Cummings went on to teach political economy and sociology at Harvard
until 1900. His instruction was praised with the following commendation: As a teacher at Harvard he
was human, alert, and stimulating (Norman, p. 17). These attributes would eventually

Essay about Virgin Suicides
Each year suicide is becoming more common in the United States among adolescents, according to the
Suicide and Mental Health Association International. The main reason why adolescents commit
suicide is because they are depressed. In the article Nightmare in the Mirror by Scott Long, he
explains that adolescence has changed throughout the years. An assertion he makes is that teens have
Angst and bouts of suicidal despair distinguish this gloomy figure (Long 156). Long explains that
throughout the years, adolescents have become sadder and depressed. Adolescents, who suffer from
depression and are suicidal, don t usually inform others. Those adolescents fall into the third quadrant
of the Johari Window.

As a result of being isolated from others, the girls become depressed. Lux makes the statement I can t
breathe in here (The Virgin Suicides). The girls become extremely lonely. Even before Cecilia, the
youngest daughter, committed suicide the girls were still sheltered. Cecilia s psychiatrist told the
parents that the girls needed another social outlet besides school. This proves that it is not healthy for
adolescents to not be social. With the girls now without the social outlet of school, the girls became
lonely and depressed. According to neuropsychiatrist, Rajesh Parikh, Alcoholism and suicide become
a handmaiden due to loneliness and depression . In other words, people who are lonely and depressed
have a higher risk of committing suicide. Since the girls were lonely and depressed, they were at a
higher risk of committing suicide. Since the girls were depressed, this later resulted in their suicide.
Suicide attempts are usually made when a person is seriously depressed and feels that there is no way
out of their problems according to D Arcy Lyness, PhD. Adolescents commit suicide because they feel
as if they can not escape emotional pain. The Lisbon girls were simply depressed. The majority of
adolescents who commit suicide suffer from depression. From the film The Virgin Suicides, it is
obvious that the Lisbon girls are depressed. The Lisbon girl s depression was the cause of their

John F. Kennedy s Influence On The United States
The United States is known for being one of the most diverse societies in the world. It is made up of
over eight major races. One race in particular, the irish, makes up around 11% of the total
population(U.S. Census Bureau 2013). The Irish Americans have very strong roots going all the way
back to when they were forced overseas due to the potato famine in the nineteenth century. These
immigrants brought with them not only a strong heritage, but also many ancestors whose children
would play an important role in shaping many of the American ways. One person of Irish descent who
perhaps had the most significant impact on our country was John F. Kennedy. John F. Kennedy shaped
the United States in many ways. From becoming the first Roman ... Show more content on

On April 15, Kennedy launched a mission known as the Bay of Pigs Fiasco. The CIA had informed
Kennedy of a plan they had to train Cuban exiles to invade Cuba. The goal was to overthrow Fidel
Castro and establish a non communist government. The invasion occurred on April 15, 1961, when the
cuban exiles set off to bomb their homeland. The fourteen hundred exiles were eventually captured or
killed. Kennedy paid over $53 million to get the captured exiles back. The Bay of Pigs invasion was a
disaster, and it embarrassed Kennedy greatly. This wasn t the last crisis of Kennedy s. What became
known as the Cuban Missile Crisis took place in October of 1962. An American spy plane secretly
spotted nuclear missile sites being built by the Soviet Union in Cuba. Kennedy did not want the Soviet
Union or Cuba to know that he found out about the missiles. After much thought, Kennedy decided to
place a ring of ships around Cuba. He called it a quarantine because he wanted to prevent the Soviets
from bringing in more military supplies. Kennedy made demands for Nikita Khrushchev to remove his
missiles from Cuba. They both decided that a nuclear war would cause great devastation. A public deal
was made between the two countries that the Soviets would dismantle the weapons site in exchange
for a pledge from the United States not to invade Cuba. A secret deal was made between the Nikita
and Khrushchev; the United States also agreed to remove nuclear missiles from Turkey. The Signing
of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty took place on August 5, 1963. This treaty limited the production of
nuclear weapons by the Soviet Union, the United States and the United Kingdom, and it gained back

The Scope Of Computerized Threat Rootkits Essay
In the scope computerized threat rootkits are not given the credit they deserve. They tend to be
minimized while they proved to be a much serious danger. Dr Mark Ciampa had categorized rootkits
under the concealment subgroup of malware, which avoiding detection is their primary characteristic.
He had briefly defined rootkits as set software tools used to hide the actions of other types of software
by changing the operating system to force it to ignore their malicious files and activities. Rootkits also
hide or remove all traces of evidence that may reveal the malware, he said. His definition is not totally
accurate even though he pin pointed the main purpose for what rootkits are used for, which is
concealment. Contrary to the popular believe rootkits are not malware and not necessarily malicious.
Greg Hoglund and James Butler in the Subverting Windows Kernel Rootkits book identified rootkits
as a computing technology that can be used for evil or goods purposes. For the sake of this paper, the
attention given to rootkits will be focusing on understanding what a rootkit is and how it works, the
different type of rootkits and their implementations, detection measure to not get infected and
preventive measure to avoid infection.
Before, delving into the subject it s important to highlight that rootkits can be whitehat or blackhat. A
black hat use of rootkits is clearly attributed for a malicious agenda. For instance, an attacker who spy

What Makes Turkey And Dubai Two Of The Top Ten Highest...
Egypt has Throughout the past 5 years Egypt has faced a tremendous downsize in a major source of
income it had most of it s civilized history. Tourism in Egypt was one of the main 3 sources of income
Egypt counted on pre the revolution that have arisen in 2011. It started growing back post 2014 falling
back down after the Russian airline bombing in 2015. Our current ordeal now is the fact that we don t
only need to revive Egypt s past tourist flow but to increase it drastically to plug a huge deficit in
Egypt s GDP (Growth Domestic Product). To do so we need to look at the problem from outsider s
perspective. What makes Turkey and Dubai two of the top ten highest grossing touristic destinations
well they studied the tourist needs and wants and provided them with all the information needed by
providing applications, maps, flyers and brochures that tells them a lot of useful things to do in their
country and tips to guide them, although both of them don t have nearly as much destinations or
sightseeing spots as Egypt do. The problem that caused the decrease in tourism in Egypt is majorly
accounted to the level of security problems we had which led to massive decreases in arrivals and
declines in growth.
Egypt has a lot of touristic destinations, which has led to the creation of a strong hotel sector and good
travel links with many key source markets. The main destinations in Egypt are Cairo, Sharm el sheikh,

Is the Octoroon a Typical Victorian Melodrama
Is The Octoroon a typical Victorian melodrama? The Oxford English Dictionary defines the genre of
melodrama as, a stage play, usually romantic and sensational in plot , this description certainly applies
to The Octoroon. It was an extremely popular form of stage drama and what I will discover is whether
its themes, content and structure are typical of the Victorian period melodrama. From the first time it
was presented at the start of the nineteenth century, melodrama attracted big audiences. It started out
very popular with the lower classes in society but as the century progressed melodrama became
appreciated by large sections of society(Leaver,444). It usually contained themes of love, murder and
honour. Audiences that went ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ending shows me that boucicault altered his play to fit the British publics preconceptions of what
a melodrama should be, therefore making it into a standard melodrama for the time. The fact that the
plot in The Octoroon is based around the topic of slavery shows us that it is in someway different from
other melodrama s of the time. Slavery was a hot topic when the Octoroon was produced and some
argue that it is abolitionist in its tone. Victorian melodrama s while sensational, tended to be centered
around more common everyday settings and themes. Some argue that the play is abolitionist in its tone
but I disagree. Boucicault himself denied the piece was meant to be an anti slavery
statement(Degen,173). In a letter to The New York Herald in December 1859, Boucicault explains that
he is not taking sides, I have laid the scene in the South, and, as slavery is an essential element of
society there, insomuch I have been obliged to admit it into my scheme. . . .I believe the drama to be a
proper and very effective instrument in the discussion of all social matters. . . .It is by such means that
the drama can be elevated into the social importance it deserves to enjoy. Therefore I have involved in

Critical Analysis Of Binsey Poplars By Gerard Manley...
Right now, many forests are being relentlessly decimated in order to meet our needs. In the poem
Binsey Poplars written by Gerard Manley Hopkins in 1879, the speaker considers this issue while
lamenting over the destruction of a line of poplar trees. In this essay, I will argue that the poem shows
mankind s own fragility through the felling of the trees because of the speaker s emphasis on the
contrast between nature and its destruction and the way nature and humans are associated with the use
of imagery and figurative language. I will first examine the poem s sorrowful tone and the way the
text s content opposes nature s beauty and its deforestation caused by humans. Then, I will analyze
how the poem s form support this opposition through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker uses this event to expand his view on the way mankind destroys nature without meaning
to. In the second and third stanzas, we are actually blamed for this irreversible damage, as seen in O if
we but knew what we do / When we delve or hew (9 10) and To mend her we end her (16). By using
the first person plural pronoun, the speaker includes not only themselves, but also the reader, who is
also a human being, and in a general sense, part of mankind. However, humans are not only the agent
of destruction, but the object of it as well. For instance, the repetition of the letter l in All felled, felled,
are all felled (3) may form a visual representation of a line of trees, or a line of people. Moreover,
there is a personification of nature throughout the poem; according to the speaker, nature is a woman,
as said in Since country is so tender / To touch, her being so slender (12 13) and To mend her we end
her (17). Whereas there are some neutral correlations between human beings and the natural world,
they are also linked through the pain and damage that is inflicted to them. Hack rack (11) are
originally aimed at the growing green (11). However, those verbs are associated to prick (15) and
sleek (14) as well due to the consonance of the sound ck . As a consequence of that association, the
sleek and seeing ball (14), the human eye (15), feels the brutality of the tree felling,

Economic Changes In Early Modern Europe
Eve Orbach

October 22nd Economic Change in Early Modern Europe
The Early Modern Period of Europe was a time of vast change in the economy due to the Price
Revolution, multiple wars and extremely high taxes, the Peasant Revolts, and the discovery of new
lands during the Age of Exploration. During the Early Modern Period there were no classic examples
of the average European citizen because of the unique religion, climate, population, etc, of each
region. The one similarity that all Europeans shared was that they were all going through significant
economic change (even though most of the Europeans were unaware of this). In Europe during the
sixteenth century, the large majority of the population either lived and worked on small towns or farms
(about %90). Manors, the Church, and the government took usually more than half of what the
peasants farmed (the taxes from the peasants had a big role in supporting the power of the state).

Gold and silver were mainly mined from Potosi and Mexico. Because there was a lot of money
circulating, people who were selling items were able to charge more for what they were selling
because people were willing to pay (or had to pay) more money in order to get supplies. The inflation
of prices caused the wealthy to become even wealthier (the Price Revolution gave many the
opportunity to accumulate more wealth), and poorer citizens to lose a lot of money because they had
to pay the inflated prices. During the Price Revolution countries started to engage in Mercantilism,
which is when countries would import more goods than they would export. Mercantilism is based on
the belief that there is a certain number of specie that is circulating, and when one country gains
specie, another country loses that specie. Mercantilism helped countries become more self sufficient

Analysis Of Gossip Girl
The television series Gossip Girl encompasses many aspects of current day society. Based off the
popular book series, the show follows Manhattan s elite, and showcases the lives of the upperclassmen
teens, focusing on their relationships, school lives and careers. When looking at Gossip Girl from a
sociological perspective, there s many hidden themes that are brought to light. While also showcasing
some controversial issues, Gossip Girl reflects many themes that can been seen in society. Contrary to
some belief this series displays a substantial amount of feminism, with the use of powerful female
characters, but lacks the accurate representation of social class and contains numerous gender
stereotypes.
In addition to the fact that the show largely surrounds the leading female protagonists, Blair Waldorf
and Serena van der Woodsen, there is a great deal of feminism being shown by these Upper East Side
women. To begin with, Blair Waldorf can be seen as the shows most driven and head strong female,
who goes about her life in an unabashedly feminist way. She demonstrates female power and
dominance with her values focusing on remaining at the top of the social rank. Despite her social
standing, Blair rejects the privilege of having opportunities or rewards being handed to her and
chooses to work for her goals. This can be shown in both the books and the television series, as Blair
strives to get a 4.0 grade point average, enrolls herself in AP classes, partakes in

How Did The Iroquois Accomplish
Iroquois: Native Life, Assimilation, and War
The Iroquois nations, one of the oldest and most prestigious tribes in the history of all Native
Americans. In this paper I will be showing why the Iroquois ended up siding with the English through
the French and Indian, and Revolutionary wars through factors of colonization. I will also be showing
some features of their culture, considering the iroquois are not well known in the western United
States, and discussing the fall of the once great tribes. The main reason I ve chosen the Iroquois is
because of my own prior knowledge of the Iroquois, and their relationship to lacrosse. I started
playing lacrosse my freshman year of highschool. The very first thing I learned, before any stick skills
or any basics of the game, was the history of it. Our coach insisted that we knew the history and the
culture of the game, and that we respected it. I was intrigued by how interesting the game was. The
game was made as a form of war. Lacrosse was sometimes even referred to as Little brother of war . It
would be called this because injury, even death were common during a lacrosse game. When two
tribes had a disagreement, but didn t feel the need to have a legitimate war, the opposing tribes would
send their best warriors to the battlefield and play a lacrosse game. Games would be played to a score
of 5 7, but considering how long the fields could be, these games could take hours, days even,
however long it took for one of the tribes to win,

Sea Otter Speech
A sea otter is the smallest marine mammal in North America, and is a part of the weasel family. They
range along the coast from San Mateo County, and South ward through Monterey County, down
through Santa Barbara county. Most animals don t have fat on them, unlike a sea otter which has
blubber to keep them warm, which is very thick. It keeps the otters warm in negative degree waters.
Their fur is made up of million hairs per square inch. Only way they keep their coats waterproof,
which they only do by hours of cleaning and grooming. Sea otters spend most of their lives cleaning
their fur to stay waterproof and warm. Most sea otters eat up to a quarter of their weight every day.
Sea otters also may hunt on the sea floor, but always come back to the top to eat its food on its chest,
and use it as a table. A sea otters diet consists of crabs, clams, crayfish, and frogs. Most otters hunt by
detecting movements in the water. Their life spans only last about 15 20 years for females and 10 15
for males. Male otters weigh up to 44 99 pounds and females weigh about 31 73 pounds. Female
otters normally have their first pup when they are about the age of four to five. Their pregnancies last
for about 4 5 months. Their babies are called pups. The pups are born anytime of the year, except the
California sea otters are born normally through January and March. When the pups are born they
weigh about five pounds. In Alaska they are born in the summer and not the winter.

Employment and Medical Leave Act Essay
Family and Medical Leave Act The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) was established
to help protect employees who missed work for medical reasons. The Family and Medical Leave Act
(FMLA) provides employees job protection in case of family or medical emergency. FMLA permits
eligible employees to take up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12 month period.
(Martocchio, 2003) The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is responsible for administrating and
enforcing most of the labor laws, including FMLA. There are four reasons that an employee can claim

In reality, the impact of FMLA abuse extends well beyond the workplace because FMLA costs are
passed on to consumers. (Profesional Exchange Service Corporation, 2005) Even though the time off
is unpaid to the employee, it is very disruptive to certain types of business such as call centers who
need to schedule employees to cover busy call times with in their business. By having employees
abusing this policy, it becomes harder and harder to staff some businesses. It is not only the employer
that suffers; it is also the employees that are left to work when there peers off of work. Some of the
other issues with the administration of the law are the vague diagnoses doctors give for the reasons
employees should be off of work. In some cases, employees file under the FMLA law when in fact
they may have a type of disability the employer could accommodate under the ADA law. Even though
the intent of this act was to help protect employees, many believe that FMLA may be doing more
harm to business that it was intended. It may be time to review and revamp this law, and have some of
the items intergraded into the ADA in order for it to be better managed. Many believe that there are
ways to improve this law to help protect employees as well as have the law not have a severe impact
on businesses. References Cohen, D. G., McLeod, T. (2003, August 2003). Changes in FMLA are
needed. Michigan Banker, 15(8),

Essay on Airplanes and Aerodynamics
Aerodynamics is generally summarized in these 2 terms: Lift against Weight and Thrust against Drag .
This basically means the amount of flight power generated must be equal to, or greater than the
amount of weight of the airplane, and the amount of pushing generated, must be equal to or greater
than the airs resistance. But the overall question, so far, is how is Lift and Thrust generated? The
answer to how Thrust is generated is quite simple. Its sort of how a car would move, except in a much
different way. Airplanes have 4 engines, which can each exert easily up to 200 PSI of air (pressure per
square inch), composed of liquid fuel cylinders, and internal combustion (like a car). It also tops to
250 km per hour on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pressure is the amount of molecules getting squeezed and impacted by energy. So more pressure will
squeeze and compress more of these air molecules, obviously making them all slow (the amount of
compression the molecules experience is the energy the amount of molecules that experienced this
compression is the pressure!!!) So less pressure is proven to increase the speed (fans, in this case
actually DECREASE the pressure on the air by cutting it with their blades). Also consider that
Bernoulli s principle is fonder with fluids but it also supports aerodynamics. When air flows over the
top of the wing, the curve stretches out the molecules and breaks the atmospheric pressure, which was
compressing those molecules together. That is how air over the wing is faster. So take into perspective
that the compressed air molecules in the bottom make up a sturdy road, and the stretched out and
spaced out air molecules on top simply, make up a freely flowing flow of air. And according to the
power of thrust it is moving along this road with no powerful force impacting above that s your
airplane flying straight forward for sure, but how does the airplane climb? There are 2 different basic
control moves for a plane. The first is pitch, and the second is roll or yawn. When the nose points
upwards the plane climbs, and when it points downwards the plane descends. That s the pitch. So
when our plane tilts its nose upwards the sturdy road of pressurized air molecules tilts

Prisoners Receiving Transplants
As the prison population in America grows in numbers and increases in age, questions and debates
about the allocation of medical resources to prisoners will grow in urgency. One issue which arises
every so often is whether convicted felons, especially those who are awaiting capital punishment,
should receive the same level of medical care as others in society including scarce donor organs for
the purpose of transplantation. As is often the case, the debate over whether a death row inmate should
receive an organ transplant is not a single controversy, but rather several rolled into one. Being able to
address the larger question requires disentangling the smaller questions and examining each in turn.

This represents an important shift because it eliminates many of the potential problems and dangers
inherent in assessing the social and moral worth of other human beings. There is a long recognized
legal principle that while people who are not members of a community may deserve certain basic
rights and privileges, they do not necessarily deserve all of the rights and privileges accorded to
members. Thus, non members have rights to life, liberty, free speech, etc., but they do not have the
right to vote.
There is very little debate over whether this principle is valid in general, but there is quite a bit of
debate over just what qualifies as basic, minimum rights and privileges which everyone should have,
regardless of their membership or citizenship status. This is especially true when it comes to health
care because there is such a wide range of possible treatments available to people.
Should prisoners receive only the very minimum necessary to keep them comfortable? Should
expensive diagnostic and treatment options be made available to them? Where exactly should the line
be drawn? If a prisoner does receive a lower standard of medical treatment and is later found to be
innocent, what sort of responsibility do the state and society bear if he now leaves prison sicker than
when he entered? Most people

Voodoo In The New World
Michael Ventura and Mark McClain Taylor (1998) argues that voodoo is a shattered religion that was
put back together to serve the people of African descents. He further argues that voodoo is not so
much Africa in the New World as it is Africa meeting the New World, absorbing it and being absorbed
by it, and re forming (p. 178). This quote suggests that the encounter between Africa and the New
World is more than mixing old and new religion, but a hybrid of counterhistory. This means that
African slaves were able to insert their own religion in a number of ways to counter Western

The nature of Jim s town suggests a theme of foreign treatment and struggles and his relationship with

they were held represent how the immigrants living in the town were not equal to them. The hired
girls were seen as secondary citizens and when the passage mentions condemning someone for having
a relationship with an immigrant girl, it becomes glaringly clear that they were not completely
accepted. Additionally, the diction and dialect employed by Willa Cather further solidified this theme
of foreign acceptance. Throughout the novel, she shows a difference in language between the
immigrants and Americans and also denotes a linguistic evolution in Antonia as she grows up. On

First Emperor Of China Essay
Although he did wonderful things while he was alive, the first emperor of China was not a wonderful
person. This is because of his greed, the large amount of people he executed, and his failed attempts to
live forever. But who was the first emperor of China? What kind of things did he accomplish? And
why do so many insist that he was a bad person?
The answer lies in the Period of Warring States. Before China was unified, it was a land composed of
seven independent states, they were kind of like countries. Those states were always at war for
superiority. In Chinese culture, this is known as the Period of Warring States (First Emperor of China).
In the midst of the Period of Warring States, a young merchant, Lu Buwei, was in need of a favor, so
he traveled to the state of Qin, in the North, in seek for the prince. Once he found the Prince, named
Zizhu Zheng, the merchant offered one of his mistresses in return for the favor. That mistress later
became pregnant and gave birth to the future emperor of China in 259 B.C. Rumor has it that the
father wasn t actually the prince, instead it was the merchant that lead his mother there, but either way,

The Importance Of Youth Work Activities
During our time studying in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu critical decisions regarding youth work
practice were made. One of these decisions was staying to wait for our boat to the island of Savo.
Many of the group woke up early to be at the port in time to catch our boat to be told that we would be
waiting at least another hour. During the wait the group found a comfortable spot and relaxed. After
the hour ended the group went back to the port in time to catch the boat however, we ended up waiting
another 45 minutes there as the boat needed fuel. Although waiting in humid 30 degree heat is
difficult, patience and resilience were shown by all group members and it provided an important
learning opportunity for me which I will take into my youth work practice. This wait was not our first
nor last in the Pacific Islands and by the end of the trip I understood what island time was.
By waiting for the boat without complaint the group embraced the relaxed Pacific Islander culture.
This had positive effects throughout the day as once we had left the port, the day ran smoothly. Any
issue with the wait may have caused tension between the group and Paul or David who were our tour
guides for the day. This was not the first time the group had been kept waiting on the trip, although we
had only been there for a few days. The first was on our initial night in Honiara at the church, in which
the service started 45 minutes to an hour late. During this wait I asked the young person I was

Hal Jordan The Green Lantern
As many people know 2007 s Green lantern film didn t do so well as far as the box office was
concerned. Though Ryan Reynolds did a good job portraying the character the movies screenplay was
incredibly inconsistent and although the story plot seemed pretty easily readable from the viewers
perception it was all over the place in inconsistencies. Many reviews were mainly negative many not
liking the tone of the story and choice of villains and characters alongside the Green Lantern. The
movie had an end credit scene which Warner Bros. studios were hoping to use towards a sequel to the
movie but the movie was so badly reviewed that the sequel never happened. That s saying something

The Apotheosis is the moment right before the movie climax s. The Apotheosis is the moment where
the hero completes a goal and transcends, the moment when greater understanding is achieved. At this
point in the movie Hal Jordan the Green Lantern is drawn out to face one of his enemies Hector
Hammond. Now Hector Hammond was never a bad guy until he became possessed by the power of
fear that is controlled by one of the Green Lantern corps most dangerous enemies Parallax. The Green
Lanterns powers come from the power of their will and therefore fear is it s greatest enemy such is
Parallax. Now Hector Hammond kidnapped Hal Jordan s damsel( typical damsel in distress scenario).
And to get her back Hammond ask for only his ring the one item that embraces his powers of hope in
doing so hes powerless, but the ring only works for those who are chosen so... the ring then returns to
Hal Jordan. The thing about this scene that i would change is the fact that most of the scene is entirely
made up of dialogue, and that parallax is in the outer atmosphere just watching Hammond do his dirty
work the whole scene just is not put together well. And the fact that the animation of parallax is

Katherine Mansfield s Mrs. Brill
When reading Miss Brill written by Katherine Mansfield. The story starts off in the perspective of
Mrs. Brill a elderly lady wearing a fur coat. This is when the story starts to progress, Mrs. Brill
decides to wear her fur coat to the public garden. She then proceeds to sit in the garden on a bench and
observe the various foot traffic. She would sit and observe and listen to the peoples conversation
without them noticing her ease dropping. The garden was quite busy that day due to the band that
usually plays there playing so beautifully. An elderly couple come and sit by Mrs. Brill on the bench,
they were not interesting to Mrs. Brill. Mrs. Brill started to notice that the people on Sundays were
usually very odd, they looked very pale like they had been in a cupboard all week and only came out

Brill is a average story but it means a lot more than the words tell and about the way people effect
others without even knowing it. The beginning of the story starts off pretty slow but then picks up
towards the middle. I was growing a little weary of the immense detail throughout the story. When
Mrs. Brill was making snap judgements about the other characters I started to dislike her more and
more. I still remained to like Mrs. Brill although the author makes it difficult felt her presence was
hindering their mood. But in all reality Mrs. Brill was just sitting in a public area and happened to
make the girl feel uncomfortable, while the young couple instead of just moving places responded in a
ill manner ruining the rest of her day. Over all I find the story mediocre but with a good moral and
ethical agenda.to like her because of all her faults. Towards the end of the story I feel that the author
got the most influential part of the story, how the last set of teenagers are boysterious towards Mrs.

The New Way We Look At Things
3 D The New Way We Look at Things Did a soldier ever think of printing his missing hand that was

want it toy for Christmas for your child? Well now you can, by using a 3 D modeling technology
printing concept. 3 D (Three Dimensional) modeling technology in the medical field has been an
innovation since the 1980 s. This technology has come a long ways. 3 D modeling technology printing
is a method of additive manufacturing and built up technique where a three dimensional object is
shaped by laying down consecutive layers of material to create an object in a 3 D aspect. Recently,
there has been an increase in the number of companies providing personalized three dimensional
printed models of objects that have been scanned and reduced to a 3 D shape with the assistance of
computer software, and then printed to the customer s requests. This technology has developed into
many branches, in which has opened doors leading to a new form of imagery in the world of printing.
While some may argue this technology may result in a trend of piracy and with its non proprietary
software, some individuals may gain profit by manufacturing counterfeit pharmaceutical products.
Society should invest in the 3 D modeling technology concept as many individuals have been creating

Symbolism In William Golding s The Lord Of The Flies
Authors have a sneaky way of revealing the greater themes that they are writing about in their books.
They reveal themes by using symbols to represent both the actual person or object and also a deeper,
hidden meaning. Placed through the story, symbols can be discovered if the reader takes a close
thoughtful look. In William Goldings, The Lord of the Flies, a group of school boys are involved in a
plane crash that leaves them stranded on a deserted island. The boys slowly begin to lose their
civilized nature and start turning into primitive savages. Golding uses symbols throughout his story to
demonstrate their crumbling society. The three most important symbols in the novel are the conch
shell, The Lord of the Flies and the face paint or masks.
The conch shell symbolizes the law and order of the boys old world, the adult world in which the boys
are used to following rules in. When Roger destroys the conch, chaos quickly takes over because there
is no leader or way to call a meeting anymore. Ralph and Piggy find the conch shell on the beach at
the beginning of the book and use it to call the boys to a meeting after the plane crashes. The conch
shell becomes a symbol of power, civilization and order in the book. The conch shell represent power
because Ralph was elected chief partially because he found it and was holding the shell when the
group was deciding on a leader. The shell helps the boys keep order in their meetings, because only

Airway Assesment Of The Difficult Airway Before Manipulation
CHAPTER III
AIRWAY ASSESMENT IN TRAUMA PATIENTS Identification of the difficult airway before
manipulation is the Holy Grail of clinical management. It is the first step in preparing for patient care.
Selection of airway devices, techniques, and procedures all pivot on airway evaluation (Carin, 2008).
Preoperative examination of the airway is essential. Identification of patients with a potentially
difficult airway before anesthesia allows time to plan an appropriate anesthetic technique. Previous
anesthetic records should always be consulted. However, a past record of normal tracheal intubation is
no guarantee against difficulty on subsequent occasions as airway anatomy can be altered as in trauma
affecting the airway. The presence of stridor or hoarse voice is warning sign for the anesthetist. As it is
impossible to identify all patients with a difficult airway during preoperative assessment, the
anesthetist must be prepared to manage the unexpected difficult laryngoscopy (Alan et al,. 2001).
ļƒ˜ Historical Indicators of Airway Difficulty: The intent of obtaining an airway history is to elicit
previously known factors indicating that airway management has been (and likely will be) difficult.
Any patient who is awake and capable of coherent conversation should be asked about prior intubation
and ventilation successes or failures. Some patients possess a Medic Alert bracelet indicating a history
of difficult intubation or ventilation and this can be useful in obtunded

Abstract : Due to recent improvement technologies in wireless communication ,there has been a
fastest growth in wireless sensor networks technologies during the past few years. Many different
architectures as well as algorithms and applications have been determined and implemented. The
efļ¬ciency of these wireless sensor networks is as much as dependent on routing protocol directly
affecting the network life and in wireless sensor network every sensor has a limited transmission range

Philip Zimbardo s Temptation Of Evil
Zimbardo raises the question what happens to average, ordinary human beings that make them turn to
the dark side of human nature. Within his book he uses research as well as many examples to show a
showcase of studies and experiments in which an individual(s) are lured to the dark side due to the
situation they are in and other affecting elements. As well as listing evidence from historical events,
Zimbardo also writes about how we can shut down the temptation to give in to evil. The book may
have a name for a difficult read just because many can t believe the simplicity of evil behavior.
Zimbardo s purpose of this novel is to illuminate the idea of how easy it is to give in to the temptation
of evil. A great number of our societies individuals moral views are based on their religion which
make them very narrow minded to the topic of temptation of evil. Zimbardo tries to open people s

Grotesque, sinister, overwhelmingly personal or simply the wailings of an afflicted soul? Sylvia Plath
an American poet, novelist and short story writer in her life wrecked with trials and tribulations had
experienced both sides of the coin. Even fifty two years after her doomful demise, she is celebrated for
her immense contributions to English literature. At the same time, her writing style has been at the
gunpoint of critical analysis ever since. Regarded as a significant pioneer of confessional poetry, she is

The motifs, themes and symbols illustrated in her literary works portray disquieting remembrances,
emotional turbulence, a stark sense of remoteness and an unheard voice to combat oppressions. Her
autobiographical novel, the Bell Jar pertinently encompasses the protagonist s arduous journey as a
delusional woman against the patriarchal society, symbolic of Plath s solitude and self mutilation. I
felt very still and empty, the way the eye of a tornado must feel, moving dully along in the middle of
the surrounding hullabaloo. Her poem Daddy illustrated the mixed emotions she had towards her
father, depicting an arch sentiment of betrayal. She used Jews and Nazis as metaphors for their
shattered relationship. In the German tongue, in the Polish town, scraped flat by the roller of wars,
wars, wars. But the name of the town is common. My Polack friend. Drawing from holocaust imagery
again, Lady Lazarus is figurative of brutality, signifying Plath s suicidal attempts. Emphasizing on her
body parts as separate from the whole; she pricked at the male dominant society s outlook for women
as mere objects. This piece of literature throws light at Plath s yearning and obsession on the subject
of death as she considered it to be an art. Dying is an art, like everything else. I do it exceptionally
well. While Plath viewed death as the hostile ultimatum and a coercing ending along with perceiving
this natural phenomenon in the literal sense, Emily Dickinson, another established American poet
known for gothic elements and dark imagery reflective of her seclusion from the society by choice,
examined death as an idealistic magnetism with a pinch of mysticism. For Dickinson, death presented
a two dimensional standpoint. It is what humans fear as well as long for their entire life. In certain
aspects, it may be symbolic of isolation, while in others it may

United States must provide security for Japan in return for the right to station U.S. troops on Japanese

which started in the late 1960 s had results which became important when Walter Mischel turned it
into a longitudinal study. The Stanford Marshmallow Experiment is a test of gratification, and the
effects of being patient and not giving in to your desires. When Mischel started this experiment he
planned on only seeing the results of the original study but then when he realised that patience as a
child could have a effect on the personality as an adult he conducted further research. The Stanford
Marshmallow Experiment was that Walter Mischel, a Stanford University ... Show more content on

Their is a control group when the participants in the experiment are receiving a treatment to see the
change. This is why their was only one experimental group. The independent variable of the
experiment was the children s patience and the dependent variable which depended on this patience as
a child was their success and personality as an adult. Mischells study did contain many
generalisations, he discarded the effects of both nature and nurture. He discarded nature when he
tested only Stanford University faculty and graduate student s children. What he didn t realise that
these children had different genes than a child whose parent s never even went to school. Then he also
didn t consider that children are brought up differently and have different experiences which would
influence them into acting differently. The question Walter Mischel was also general and it can be put
into many situations. The general idea behind delaying gratification and then achieving more is very
simple. My desire, or gratification, while writing this research paper is to play a game, watch
television and then sleep but delaying this gratification would allow me to get a good grade in

Cardiovascular exercises can be considerably difficult when dealing with a condition like asthma.
There are a few ways to around this. Consider completing light aerobic exercises that work the entire

FIN 6425 Arundel Case Guidelines Nimalendran
In this case, a movie industry analyst is asked to evaluate a proposed venture in which a group of
partners would purchase the sequel rights to movies produced by the major studios. Your objective is
to 1) discuss and evaluate the basic concept; 2) determine the value of the sequel rights on a per movie
basis; 3) evaluate the possible upside and potential drawbacks to the proposed plan. As you will see,
the ideas here incorporate elements of capital budgeting coupled with a real options analysis.
Please provide answers to the following questions. You ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beyond this broad understanding, you shouldn t worry any more about how the specific numbers were
estimated but you should understand how to interpret them. For example for The Burbs, the numbers
in Exhibit 7 suggest that the value of the sequel at t=3 (using the suggested 12% discount rate) is :
NPV (at t=3) = $27.3/1.12 $24 = $0.375 million.
It follows that the NPV at t=0 can be found by discounting the above number three years at 12% doing
so you get a value of $0.2669 million which is an estimate of what you pay for the sequel right at t=0.
Looking at this in terms of an internal rate of return the one year return can be calculated as ($27.3/24)
1=.1375 or 13.75% (this number has been rounded up to .14 or 14% in Exhibit 7). Note that whenever
this IRR is above 12%, the sequel will be positive NPV.
5. Assume that a maximum of ten sequels can be made in any given year (choose the sequels that are
most likely to be made for example if the main character in the film dies then a sequel is unlikely to be
made) Using the same decision tree approach, what would you estimate to be the per movie value of
the sequel rights to the entire portfolio of 99 movies released in 1989 by the six major studios?
6. Using the Black Scholes approach, calculate the per movie value of the sequel rights to the entire

Action Plan for Reporting Waste and Abuse in the Air Force
In fiscal year 2014 it is very clear that there needs to be a better reporting of all of the materials that
are owned and are held by the Air Force. It is important to make sure that there is a complete
accounting of all of the materials such as parts, ammunition, and other items that belong to the air
force so that it will be possible to ensure that in any location there is no issue that the materials will be
in the hands of anyone else. The allocation is supposed to serve through departmental roles, with the
chiefs of each department consenting to any requested sub budgetary allocation requested by the
service men and women in their departments. The offices include the operations office, the general
counsel s office, the information and communication office and the human resource office. All actions
that will be recommended for this case might not show specific dates, since the military requires a
series of approval steps for any implementation, and delays might occur. In addition, the air force is
sometimes caught up in emergency situation that lead to freezing operations for security purposes. It
also leads to delays and rechanneling of allocated budgets to the emergency situation. The 2014
budget is used in this paper, since it has already been implemented, therefore researchable.

A Brief Note On Professional Counseling And Its Unique...
Society lives in the present. Society also plans for and worries about the future. History, however, is
not as easily seen in society s daily activities. It is simply the study of the past (American Historical
Association, 2004). It seems that history is believed to be less important when compared to the other
two tenses. History, however, is composed of individuals and happenings that have helped mold the
present time period. In other words, there would not be a present or future without a history.
Everything has a past, including the profession of counseling. Professional counseling, and its unique
disciplines, has a past that is over a century old. As a result, it has developed into a distinguishably
important profession.
According to the American Counseling Association (2013), professional counseling is a professional
relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health,
wellness, education, and career goals. In this present time, counseling is a well defined term. It is the
act of working with clients on strategies to overcome obstacles and personal challenges that the clients
are facing (American Counseling Association, 2013). Unfortunately, this has not always been the case.
Counseling has not always been viewed as a true profession. Nor has it always been clearly defined.
As one explores the history of professional counseling, one will see that its journey begun in the late
1890s. Beginning about a hundred and twenty

Globalisation in Russia
Globalisation in Russia : the challenge of the transition to the world economy
Fifteen years ago, the Soviet Union was a socialist authoritative country, tightly isolated from
capitalist countries. Nowadays, its direct heir, Russia, is one of the most quickly growing markets of
the world, strongly open on the global economy.
During the 1990s, Russia underwent an extraordinary transformation from a communist dictatorship to
a multi party democracy, from a centrally planned system to a market economy, and from a belligerent
enemy of the West to a cooperative partner. This change was as unexpected as exceptional: two
decades ago, only an idealist would have imagined the evil empire to transform so quickly and
peacefully into a democratic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term of transition reveals by itself the prevailing frame of mind at the beginning of the 1990
decade. The concept of transition intends the passing from a situation ā€“a singular balanceā€“ to
another. It is an intermediate situation, a transitory state. There would be thus one market economy,
only one model which it would be possible to reach quickly.
The Russian experiment of the 90ies shows that while wanting to go from a point A (Soviet economy)
to a point B (an idealized market economy), Russia reached another balance, a point C (a degraded
market economy). For all these reasons it is preferable to speak about a process of transformation
rather than about transition.
It seems important, at this stage, to take an interest in the concept of market economy. The market is a
central concept in economy, but its definition is seldom explicit. It is at the same time a physical place
where are carried out the exchanges, a whole of outlets related to a product and the abstract place of
the meeting between supply and demand. For certain authors like Ludwig von Meises, the market
economy corresponds to capitalism and can be thus defined as the exact opposite of socialist
economies.
Actually, the economies of the Soviet block had, to differing degrees, market components. As a result,
it seems more judicious to define the market economy as an economy whose activity is organized

Character Analysis Of Norman Lear
Living by the restrictions that society places upon us, humanity is constrained to follow rules.
Television writers were forced to write a certain way and were forced to leave out information that
society would deem as improper, rude, and even racist. However, in 1971, a groundbreaking American
television sitcom broke through societal boundaries and transformed the way that the American
audience viewed television. Engulfed by the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and
1960s, fight for women s right, and the Watergate scandal, Norman Lear persevered through
stereotypes and entertainment norms with his show All in the Family. This show approached its
audience in a very blunt and crude manner; it made conflict the center of its comedy. It dealt with
contemporary cultural issues in a relatable way, which blue allowed blue collar workers to learn about
their current everyday issues and concerns. Through his show All in the Family, Norman Lear
highlighted sensitive topics such as racism, bigotry, and sexual relations to prove that they are still
alive in our country; thus, Norman Lear is an agent of change by bringing awareness to social issues.
Born in 1922 to a very atypical family, Norman Lear had to become very independent. Norman Lear s
father, Herman, was a conman who was arrested when Norman was nine years old. In an interview
with PBS broadcast journalist Jeffrey Brown, Norman relives the moments of his dad s arrest,
recounting the time when a man came up to him, pat him on his shoulder, and uttered [Norman] You
re the man in the house (Source). It was at this moment that Lear realized the foolishness of the human
condition. He wondered what kind of person would place such a great responsibility on a nine year old
child, especially during times of hardship and sadness. What made Norman Lear s childhood even
appalling was that he could not rely on his mother for support; everything Norman did was only
satisfactory in her eyes. To escape his unsupportive life, Lear enlisted in the military and became a
fighter pilot during World War II. After completing 52 combat missions, he headed west in an effort to
make a social impact through writing comedy. After impressing his colleagues, he was hired as

The prince Essay
Niccolo Machiavelli s The Prince attempts to explain the necessary tactics and required knowledge a
ruler must attain in order to gain and maintain a successful reign. The novel serves as an abstract
manual, addressing the definition of a good/bad ruler by placing emphasis on the required military
organization, the character a ruler must posses, and the success that could be attained if a ruler should
follow the guide. The scope in which the book is written is that of a scholarly observant. Machiavelli
places his findings and observations of history, as well as the needs of the people so the information
may serve the prince as a tool, that once implemented will create and maintain a powerful state. The
guide places a particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Warning that Mercenaries and Auxiliaries are useless and dangerous... (40) any use of either will surly
hinder, even destroy success. Mercenaries are described to be power hungry, undisciplined and
disloyal; lacking any fear of God therefore, placing no faith in their fellow man. Truly, they are
pretenders whom face a friend with bravery, yet are cowardly upon battle. Consequently, Auxiliaries
whom are called for defense and assistance are also ill advised by Machiavelli. Auxiliaries are the
other useless kind of troops... (44) here he uses the example of Pope Julius II and his failure upon
battle, concluding that anyone who doesn t want to succeed should use this form of recourse. With
both of Mercenaries and Auxiliaries there is no loyalty nor sense of fellowship, which are essential in
military success. The importance of trust and loyalty in a military force must also be exemplified by a
leader; ...armed forces must be under the control of either a prince or a republic: a prince should
assume personal command and captain his troops himself. (41) there must be a relationship that binds
soldiers to a purpose. A purpose, that leads to the understanding that in order for a goal to be attained,
a unit must be formed bound by trust and comradeship. If a ruler is able to attain a fighting force to be
as one, then he is proven to be a good ruler. Machiavelli uses examples such as Rome

Larkspur Middle School Research Paper
Do you remember the pep rallies from sixth grade? Remember how we sixth graders could not wait
until seventh grade to sit on the bleachers instead of the gym floor? Back in 2013, Larkspur Middle
School got rid of pep rallies since it was a safety hazard to have too many people in the gym at the
same time. Instead, they replaced pep rallies with spirit parades, so teams parade around the school for
about fifteen minutes and basically back up the whole school day. I think the best way to bring school
spirit back at Larkspur is to get rid of spirit parades, bring pep rallies back, and hold them outside.
First of all, spirit parades take too long and the hallway gets crowded quickly. When all the classes
were lined up along the lockers, it always got hot so fast. We had to stand up for about fifteen minutes
while being squished together. For example, it took a while for it to start, and it only lasted for about
five minutes. Spirit parades effected teachers, too. These parades cut into valuable class time. Plus,
teachers had to wait for their students who were in the parade to come back. Spirit parades were
probably worst for elective teachers and eight grade students and teachers. First elective classes like
academic support, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main reason why Larkspur had to get rid of pep rallies was because the gym was too packed.
There were not enough seats in the gym, so sixth graders had to sit on the floor, while seventh and
eighth graders had to sit on the bleachers. The crowdedness of the gym really had an effect on the
departure of leaving the gym. All the classes had to leave one by one through the maze of all the
students. This led to the fire department safety rule of only having a certain number or people in one
place at one time since it is a fire hazard. If a fire were to occur in the gym, then there would only be
about seven exits. These exits would not be easy to access since the pep rallies were only on one side

Apollo 11 Footprint Essay
The Most Important Footprint
Twenty Six year old Laura Polacek tucked her children into bed at 8:30 P.M. on an exceedingly warm
Sunday in July. The exact date was July 20th, 1969. Laura walked back into her cramped living room
to join her husband, sister, two cousins, and mother. The television was on Channel 3, broadcasting the
coverage of NASA s first Moon landing. Apollo 11 had landed on the Moon s surface at 8:18 P.M. Six
hours later, Neil Armstrong emerged from the capsule at 2:38AM, climbed down the modules latter
and became the first man to place his foot on the moon. Laura Polacek s recollection, nearly forty
seven years after the fact, of this event is similar to those who watched all over the world (Polacek).
From July 16th to July 24th, 1969, six hundred million people had their eyes on NASA; more
specifically, Apollo 11 (Reed). For this time, this had been the most people to watch a broadcasted
event on television ever. A combination of strenuous preparation and dedication made it possible for
the United States to be the first country to put a man on the moon. This milestone left a tremendous
impact on not only the United States, but other countries as well.

  • 2. The Poetry of e.e. cummings Essay The Poetry of e.e. cummings The poems to come are for you and for me and are not for most people. it s no use trying to pretend that mostpeople and ourselves are alike. Mostpeople have less in common with ourselves than the squarerootofminusone. You and I are human beings;mostpeople are snobs. Take the matter of being born. What does being born mean to mostpeople? Catastrophe unmitigated. Socialrevolution. The cultured aristocrat yanked out of his hyperexclusively ultravoluptuous superpalazzo, and dumped into an incredibly vulgar detentioncamp swarming with every conceivable species of undesirable organism. Mostpeople fancy a guaranteed birthproof safetysuit of nondestructible selflessness. If mostpeople were to be born twice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They miss his satirical views, his beautiful observations, and his skillful choice of words. This lack of respect for the importance of individual words prompted Cummings attack of most people. His bitterness is directly related to his struggle to get this particular collection of poetry his seventh published. Edward Estlin Cummings has always had an affinity for language. Early in life he penned a couplet, which illustrates his reliance on the power of simple observation: O, the pretty birdie, O; with his little toe, toe, toe! (Norman, 1958, p. 26) This appreciation for one s ability to observe and interpret was influenced by Cummings upbringing. Born on October 14, 1894, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Edward Estlin had the gift of caring, intelligent, progressive parents. His father, Edward, graduated from Harvard in 1883, with a degree in philosophy. He then studied at Oxford, with the Reverend Samuel A. Barnett and Professor Estlin Carpenter (who made enough of an impression on the young Edward to cause him to choose to name his son after him.) Edward Cummings went on to teach political economy and sociology at Harvard until 1900. His instruction was praised with the following commendation: As a teacher at Harvard he was human, alert, and stimulating (Norman, p. 17). These attributes would eventually ... • 3. Essay about Virgin Suicides Each year suicide is becoming more common in the United States among adolescents, according to the Suicide and Mental Health Association International. The main reason why adolescents commit suicide is because they are depressed. In the article Nightmare in the Mirror by Scott Long, he explains that adolescence has changed throughout the years. An assertion he makes is that teens have Angst and bouts of suicidal despair distinguish this gloomy figure (Long 156). Long explains that throughout the years, adolescents have become sadder and depressed. Adolescents, who suffer from depression and are suicidal, don t usually inform others. As a result of being isolated from others, the girls become depressed. Lux makes the statement I can t breathe in here (The Virgin Suicides). The girls become extremely lonely. Even before Cecilia, the youngest daughter, committed suicide the girls were still sheltered. Cecilia s psychiatrist told the parents that the girls needed another social outlet besides school. This proves that it is not healthy for adolescents to not be social. With the girls now without the social outlet of school, the girls became lonely and depressed. According to neuropsychiatrist, Rajesh Parikh, Alcoholism and suicide become a handmaiden due to loneliness and depression . In other words, people who are lonely and depressed have a higher risk of committing suicide. Since the girls were lonely and depressed, they were at a higher risk of committing suicide. Since the girls were depressed, this later resulted in their suicide. Suicide attempts are usually made when a person is seriously depressed and feels that there is no way out of their problems according to D Arcy Lyness, PhD. Adolescents commit suicide because they feel as if they can not escape emotional pain. The Lisbon girls were simply depressed. The majority of adolescents who commit suicide suffer from depression. • 4. John F. Kennedy s Influence On The United States The United States is known for being one of the most diverse societies in the world. It is made up of over eight major races. One race in particular, the irish, makes up around 11% of the total population(U.S. Census Bureau 2013). The Irish Americans have very strong roots going all the way back to when they were forced overseas due to the potato famine in the nineteenth century. These immigrants brought with them not only a strong heritage, but also many ancestors whose children would play an important role in shaping many of the American ways. One person of Irish descent who perhaps had the most significant impact on our country was John F. Kennedy. John F. Kennedy shaped the United States in many ways. From becoming the first Roman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On April 15, Kennedy launched a mission known as the Bay of Pigs Fiasco. The CIA had informed Kennedy of a plan they had to train Cuban exiles to invade Cuba. The goal was to overthrow Fidel Castro and establish a non communist government. The invasion occurred on April 15, 1961, when the cuban exiles set off to bomb their homeland. The fourteen hundred exiles were eventually captured or killed. Kennedy paid over $53 million to get the captured exiles back. The Bay of Pigs invasion was a disaster, and it embarrassed Kennedy greatly. This wasn t the last crisis of Kennedy s. What became known as the Cuban Missile Crisis took place in October of 1962. An American spy plane secretly spotted nuclear missile sites being built by the Soviet Union in Cuba. Kennedy did not want the Soviet Union or Cuba to know that he found out about the missiles. After much thought, Kennedy decided to place a ring of ships around Cuba. He called it a quarantine because he wanted to prevent the Soviets from bringing in more military supplies. Kennedy made demands for Nikita Khrushchev to remove his missiles from Cuba. They both decided that a nuclear war would cause great devastation. A public deal was made between the two countries that the Soviets would dismantle the weapons site in exchange for a pledge from the United States not to invade Cuba. A secret deal was made between the Nikita and Khrushchev; the United States also agreed to remove nuclear missiles from Turkey. The Signing of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty took place on August 5, 1963. This treaty limited the production of nuclear weapons by the Soviet Union, the United States and the United Kingdom, and it gained back President Kennedy s reputation with the American ... • 5. The Scope Of Computerized Threat Rootkits Essay In the scope computerized threat rootkits are not given the credit they deserve. They tend to be minimized while they proved to be a much serious danger. Dr Mark Ciampa had categorized rootkits under the concealment subgroup of malware, which avoiding detection is their primary characteristic. He had briefly defined rootkits as set software tools used to hide the actions of other types of software by changing the operating system to force it to ignore their malicious files and activities. Rootkits also hide or remove all traces of evidence that may reveal the malware, he said. His definition is not totally accurate even though he pin pointed the main purpose for what rootkits are used for, which is concealment. Contrary to the popular believe rootkits are not malware and not necessarily malicious. Greg Hoglund and James Butler in the Subverting Windows Kernel Rootkits book identified rootkits as a computing technology that can be used for evil or goods purposes. For the sake of this paper, the attention given to rootkits will be focusing on understanding what a rootkit is and how it works, the different type of rootkits and their implementations, detection measure to not get infected and preventive measure to avoid infection. Before, delving into the subject it s important to highlight that rootkits can be whitehat or blackhat. A black hat use of rootkits is clearly attributed for a malicious agenda. • 6. What Makes Turkey And Dubai Two Of The Top Ten Highest... Egypt has Throughout the past 5 years Egypt has faced a tremendous downsize in a major source of income it had most of it s civilized history. Tourism in Egypt was one of the main 3 sources of income Egypt counted on pre the revolution that have arisen in 2011. It started growing back post 2014 falling back down after the Russian airline bombing in 2015. Our current ordeal now is the fact that we don t only need to revive Egypt s past tourist flow but to increase it drastically to plug a huge deficit in Egypt s GDP (Growth Domestic Product). To do so we need to look at the problem from outsider s perspective. What makes Turkey and Dubai two of the top ten highest grossing touristic destinations well they studied the tourist needs and wants and provided them with all the information needed by providing applications, maps, flyers and brochures that tells them a lot of useful things to do in their country and tips to guide them, although both of them don t have nearly as much destinations or sightseeing spots as Egypt do. The problem that caused the decrease in tourism in Egypt is majorly accounted to the level of security problems we had which led to massive decreases in arrivals and declines in growth. Egypt has a lot of touristic destinations, which has led to the creation of a strong hotel sector and good travel links with many key source markets. The main destinations in Egypt are Cairo, Sharm el sheikh, hurghada and luxor and aswan. But there are a lot of another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Is the Octoroon a Typical Victorian Melodrama Is The Octoroon a typical Victorian melodrama? The Oxford English Dictionary defines the genre of melodrama as, a stage play, usually romantic and sensational in plot , this description certainly applies to The Octoroon. It was an extremely popular form of stage drama and what I will discover is whether its themes, content and structure are typical of the Victorian period melodrama. From the first time it was presented at the start of the nineteenth century, melodrama attracted big audiences. It started out very popular with the lower classes in society but as the century progressed melodrama became appreciated by large sections of society(Leaver,444). It usually contained themes of love, murder and honour. Audiences that went ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This ending shows me that boucicault altered his play to fit the British publics preconceptions of what a melodrama should be, therefore making it into a standard melodrama for the time. The fact that the plot in The Octoroon is based around the topic of slavery shows us that it is in someway different from other melodrama s of the time. Slavery was a hot topic when the Octoroon was produced and some argue that it is abolitionist in its tone. Victorian melodrama s while sensational, tended to be centered around more common everyday settings and themes. Some argue that the play is abolitionist in its tone but I disagree. Boucicault himself denied the piece was meant to be an anti slavery statement(Degen,173). In a letter to The New York Herald in December 1859, Boucicault explains that he is not taking sides, I have laid the scene in the South, and, as slavery is an essential element of society there, insomuch I have been obliged to admit it into my scheme. . . .I believe the drama to be a proper and very effective instrument in the discussion of all social matters. . . .It is by such means that the drama can be elevated into the social importance it deserves to enjoy. Therefore I have involved in The Octoroon sketches of slave life, truthful I know, and I hope gentle and kind (NY ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Critical Analysis Of Binsey Poplars By Gerard Manley... Right now, many forests are being relentlessly decimated in order to meet our needs. In the poem Binsey Poplars written by Gerard Manley Hopkins in 1879, the speaker considers this issue while lamenting over the destruction of a line of poplar trees. In this essay, I will argue that the poem shows mankind s own fragility through the felling of the trees because of the speaker s emphasis on the contrast between nature and its destruction and the way nature and humans are associated with the use of imagery and figurative language. I will first examine the poem s sorrowful tone and the way the text s content opposes nature s beauty and its deforestation caused by humans. Then, I will analyze how the poem s form support this opposition through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker uses this event to expand his view on the way mankind destroys nature without meaning to. In the second and third stanzas, we are actually blamed for this irreversible damage, as seen in O if we but knew what we do / When we delve or hew (9 10) and To mend her we end her (16). By using the first person plural pronoun, the speaker includes not only themselves, but also the reader, who is also a human being, and in a general sense, part of mankind. However, humans are not only the agent of destruction, but the object of it as well. For instance, the repetition of the letter l in All felled, felled, are all felled (3) may form a visual representation of a line of trees, or a line of people. Moreover, there is a personification of nature throughout the poem; according to the speaker, nature is a woman, as said in Since country is so tender / To touch, her being so slender (12 13) and To mend her we end her (17). Whereas there are some neutral correlations between human beings and the natural world, they are also linked through the pain and damage that is inflicted to them. Hack rack (11) are originally aimed at the growing green (11). However, those verbs are associated to prick (15) and sleek (14) as well due to the consonance of the sound ck . As a consequence of that association, the sleek and seeing ball (14), the human eye (15), feels the brutality of the tree felling, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Economic Changes In Early Modern Europe Eve Orbach 10H1 October 22nd Economic Change in Early Modern Europe The Early Modern Period of Europe was a time of vast change in the economy due to the Price Revolution, multiple wars and extremely high taxes, the Peasant Revolts, and the discovery of new lands during the Age of Exploration. During the Early Modern Period there were no classic examples of the average European citizen because of the unique religion, climate, population, etc, of each region. The one similarity that all Europeans shared was that they were all going through significant economic change (even though most of the Europeans were unaware of this). In Europe during the sixteenth century, the large majority of the population either lived and worked on small towns or farms (about %90). Manors, the Church, and the government took usually more than half of what the peasants farmed (the taxes from the peasants had a big role in supporting the power of the state). The inflation of prices caused the wealthy to become even wealthier (the Price Revolution gave many the opportunity to accumulate more wealth), and poorer citizens to lose a lot of money because they had to pay the inflated prices. During the Price Revolution countries started to engage in Mercantilism, which is when countries would import more goods than they would export. • 10. Analysis Of Gossip Girl The television series Gossip Girl encompasses many aspects of current day society. Based off the popular book series, the show follows Manhattan s elite, and showcases the lives of the upperclassmen teens, focusing on their relationships, school lives and careers. When looking at Gossip Girl from a sociological perspective, there s many hidden themes that are brought to light. While also showcasing some controversial issues, Gossip Girl reflects many themes that can been seen in society. Contrary to some belief this series displays a substantial amount of feminism, with the use of powerful female characters, but lacks the accurate representation of social class and contains numerous gender stereotypes. In addition to the fact that the show largely surrounds the leading female protagonists, Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen, there is a great deal of feminism being shown by these Upper East Side women. To begin with, Blair Waldorf can be seen as the shows most driven and head strong female, who goes about her life in an unabashedly feminist way. She demonstrates female power and dominance with her values focusing on remaining at the top of the social rank. Despite her social standing, Blair rejects the privilege of having opportunities or rewards being handed to her and chooses to work for her goals. This can be shown in both the books and the television series, as Blair strives to get a 4.0 grade point average, enrolls herself in AP classes, partakes in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. How Did The Iroquois Accomplish Iroquois: Native Life, Assimilation, and War The Iroquois nations, one of the oldest and most prestigious tribes in the history of all Native Americans. In this paper I will be showing why the Iroquois ended up siding with the English through the French and Indian, and Revolutionary wars through factors of colonization. I will also be showing some features of their culture, considering the iroquois are not well known in the western United States, and discussing the fall of the once great tribes. The main reason I ve chosen the Iroquois is because of my own prior knowledge of the Iroquois, and their relationship to lacrosse. I started playing lacrosse my freshman year of highschool. The very first thing I learned, before any stick skills or any basics of the game, was the history of it. Our coach insisted that we knew the history and the culture of the game, and that we respected it. I was intrigued by how interesting the game was. The game was made as a form of war. Lacrosse was sometimes even referred to as Little brother of war . It would be called this because injury, even death were common during a lacrosse game. When two tribes had a disagreement, but didn t feel the need to have a legitimate war, the opposing tribes would send their best warriors to the battlefield and play a lacrosse game. Games would be played to a score of 5 7, but considering how long the fields could be, these games could take hours, days even, however long it took for one of the tribes to win, ... Sea otters spend most of their lives cleaning their fur to stay waterproof and warm. Most sea otters eat up to a quarter of their weight every day. Sea otters also may hunt on the sea floor, but always come back to the top to eat its food on its chest, and use it as a table. A sea otters diet consists of crabs, clams, crayfish, and frogs. Most otters hunt by detecting movements in the water. Their life spans only last about 15 20 years for females and 10 15 for males. Male otters weigh up to 44 99 pounds and females weigh about 31 73 pounds. Female otters normally have their first pup when they are about the age of four to five. Their pregnancies last for about 4 5 months. Their babies are called pups. The pups are born anytime of the year, except the California sea otters are born normally through January and March. When the pups are born they weigh about five pounds. In Alaska they are born in the summer and not the winter. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Employment and Medical Leave Act Essay Family and Medical Leave Act The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) was established to help protect employees who missed work for medical reasons. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides employees job protection in case of family or medical emergency. FMLA permits eligible employees to take up to 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12 month period. (Martocchio, 2003) The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is responsible for administrating and enforcing most of the labor laws, including FMLA. There are four reasons that an employee can claim FMLA. They are 1) for the birth and care for a newborn child; 2) for placement with the employee of a son or daughter for adoption or foster care; 3) to care for an immediate family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In reality, the impact of FMLA abuse extends well beyond the workplace because FMLA costs are passed on to consumers. (Profesional Exchange Service Corporation, 2005) Even though the time off is unpaid to the employee, it is very disruptive to certain types of business such as call centers who need to schedule employees to cover busy call times with in their business. By having employees abusing this policy, it becomes harder and harder to staff some businesses. It is not only the employer that suffers; it is also the employees that are left to work when there peers off of work. Some of the other issues with the administration of the law are the vague diagnoses doctors give for the reasons employees should be off of work. In some cases, employees file under the FMLA law when in fact they may have a type of disability the employer could accommodate under the ADA law. Even though the intent of this act was to help protect employees, many believe that FMLA may be doing more harm to business that it was intended. It may be time to review and revamp this law, and have some of the items intergraded into the ADA in order for it to be better managed. Many believe that there are ways to improve this law to help protect employees as well as have the law not have a severe impact on businesses. References Cohen, D. G., McLeod, T. (2003, August 2003). • 14. Essay on Airplanes and Aerodynamics Aerodynamics is generally summarized in these 2 terms: Lift against Weight and Thrust against Drag . This basically means the amount of flight power generated must be equal to, or greater than the amount of weight of the airplane, and the amount of pushing generated, must be equal to or greater than the airs resistance. But the overall question, so far, is how is Lift and Thrust generated? The answer to how Thrust is generated is quite simple. Its sort of how a car would move, except in a much different way. Airplanes have 4 engines, which can each exert easily up to 200 PSI of air (pressure per square inch), composed of liquid fuel cylinders, and internal combustion (like a car). It also tops to 250 km per hour on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pressure is the amount of molecules getting squeezed and impacted by energy. So more pressure will squeeze and compress more of these air molecules, obviously making them all slow (the amount of compression the molecules experience is the energy the amount of molecules that experienced this compression is the pressure!!!) So less pressure is proven to increase the speed (fans, in this case actually DECREASE the pressure on the air by cutting it with their blades). Also consider that Bernoulli s principle is fonder with fluids but it also supports aerodynamics. When air flows over the top of the wing, the curve stretches out the molecules and breaks the atmospheric pressure, which was compressing those molecules together. That is how air over the wing is faster. So take into perspective that the compressed air molecules in the bottom make up a sturdy road, and the stretched out and spaced out air molecules on top simply, make up a freely flowing flow of air. And according to the power of thrust it is moving along this road with no powerful force impacting above that s your airplane flying straight forward for sure, but how does the airplane climb? There are 2 different basic control moves for a plane. The first is pitch, and the second is roll or yawn. When the nose points upwards the plane climbs, and when it points downwards the plane descends. That s the pitch. So when our plane tilts its nose upwards the sturdy road of pressurized air molecules tilts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One issue which arises every so often is whether convicted felons, especially those who are awaiting capital punishment, should receive the same level of medical care as others in society including scarce donor organs for the purpose of transplantation. As is often the case, the debate over whether a death row inmate should receive an organ transplant is not a single controversy, but rather several rolled into one. This represents an important shift because it eliminates many of the potential problems and dangers inherent in assessing the social and moral worth of other human beings. There is a long recognized legal principle that while people who are not members of a community may deserve certain basic rights and privileges, they do not necessarily deserve all of the rights and privileges accorded to members. Thus, non members have rights to life, liberty, free speech, etc., but they do not have the right to vote. There is very little debate over whether this principle is valid in general, but there is quite a bit of debate over just what qualifies as basic, minimum rights and privileges which everyone should have, regardless of their membership or citizenship status. This is especially true when it comes to health care because there is such a wide range of possible treatments available to people. Should prisoners receive only the very minimum necessary to keep them comfortable? Should expensive diagnostic and treatment options be made available to them? Where exactly should the line be drawn? This is because of his greed, the large amount of people he executed, and his failed attempts to live forever. But who was the first emperor of China? What kind of things did he accomplish? And why do so many insist that he was a bad person? The answer lies in the Period of Warring States. Before China was unified, it was a land composed of seven independent states, they were kind of like countries. Those states were always at war for superiority. In Chinese culture, this is known as the Period of Warring States (First Emperor of China). One of these decisions was staying to wait for our boat to the island of Savo. Many of the group woke up early to be at the port in time to catch our boat to be told that we would be waiting at least another hour. During the wait the group found a comfortable spot and relaxed. After the hour ended the group went back to the port in time to catch the boat however, we ended up waiting another 45 minutes there as the boat needed fuel. They reveal themes by using symbols to represent both the actual person or object and also a deeper, hidden meaning. Placed through the story, symbols can be discovered if the reader takes a close thoughtful look. In William Goldings, The Lord of the Flies, a group of school boys are involved in a plane crash that leaves them stranded on a deserted island. The boys slowly begin to lose their civilized nature and start turning into primitive savages. Golding uses symbols throughout his story to demonstrate their crumbling society. The three most important symbols in the novel are the conch shell, The Lord of the Flies and the face paint or masks. The conch shell symbolizes the law and order of the boys old world, the adult world in which the boys are used to following rules in. When Roger destroys the conch, chaos quickly takes over because there is no leader or way to call a meeting anymore. • 31. Airway Assesment Of The Difficult Airway Before Manipulation CHAPTER III AIRWAY ASSESMENT IN TRAUMA PATIENTS Identification of the difficult airway before manipulation is the Holy Grail of clinical management. It is the first step in preparing for patient care. Selection of airway devices, techniques, and procedures all pivot on airway evaluation (Carin, 2008). Preoperative examination of the airway is essential. Identification of patients with a potentially difficult airway before anesthesia allows time to plan an appropriate anesthetic technique. Previous anesthetic records should always be consulted. However, a past record of normal tracheal intubation is no guarantee against difficulty on subsequent occasions as airway anatomy can be altered as in trauma affecting the airway. The presence of stridor or hoarse voice is warning sign for the anesthetist. As it is impossible to identify all patients with a difficult airway during preoperative assessment, the anesthetist must be prepared to manage the unexpected difficult laryngoscopy (Alan et al,. 2001). ļƒ˜ Historical Indicators of Airway Difficulty: The intent of obtaining an airway history is to elicit previously known factors indicating that airway management has been (and likely will be) difficult. Zimbardo s purpose of this novel is to illuminate the idea of how easy it is to give in to the temptation of evil. A great number of our societies individuals moral views are based on their religion which make them very narrow minded to the topic of temptation of evil. Zimbardo tries to open people s mind to make them see how evil may not be born into an individual but created from the environment they are in. Sylvia Plath an American poet, novelist and short story writer in her life wrecked with trials and tribulations had experienced both sides of the coin. Even fifty two years after her doomful demise, she is celebrated for her immense contributions to English literature. The motifs, themes and symbols illustrated in her literary works portray disquieting remembrances, emotional turbulence, a stark sense of remoteness and an unheard voice to combat oppressions. Her autobiographical novel, the Bell Jar pertinently encompasses the protagonist s arduous journey as a delusional woman against the patriarchal society, symbolic of Plath s solitude and self mutilation. I felt very still and empty, the way the eye of a tornado must feel, moving dully along in the middle of the surrounding hullabaloo. Her poem Daddy illustrated the mixed emotions she had towards her father, depicting an arch sentiment of betrayal. She used Jews and Nazis as metaphors for their shattered relationship. This piece of literature throws light at Plath s yearning and obsession on the subject of death as she considered it to be an art. Dying is an art, like everything else. I do it exceptionally well. While Plath viewed death as the hostile ultimatum and a coercing ending along with perceiving this natural phenomenon in the literal sense, Emily Dickinson, another established American poet known for gothic elements and dark imagery reflective of her seclusion from the society by choice, examined death as an idealistic magnetism with a pinch of mysticism. Due to this treaty, the United States must provide security for Japan in return for the right to station U.S. troops on Japanese territory. While the original stance of the U.S. was to take no stance on sovereignty despite its obligations to defend Japan, its stance has recently shifted to pro Japan. It follows that the NPV at t=0 can be found by discounting the above number three years at 12% doing so you get a value of $0.2669 million which is an estimate of what you pay for the sequel right at t=0. Looking at this in terms of an internal rate of return the one year return can be calculated as ($27.3/24) 1=.1375 or 13.75% (this number has been rounded up to .14 or 14% in Exhibit 7). History, however, is not as easily seen in society s daily activities. It is simply the study of the past (American Historical Association, 2004). It seems that history is believed to be less important when compared to the other two tenses. History, however, is composed of individuals and happenings that have helped mold the present time period. In other words, there would not be a present or future without a history. Everything has a past, including the profession of counseling. Professional counseling, and its unique disciplines, has a past that is over a century old. As a result, it has developed into a distinguishably important profession. According to the American Counseling Association (2013), professional counseling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals. In this present time, counseling is a well defined term. It is the act of working with clients on strategies to overcome obstacles and personal challenges that the clients are facing (American Counseling Association, 2013). Nowadays, its direct heir, Russia, is one of the most quickly growing markets of the world, strongly open on the global economy. During the 1990s, Russia underwent an extraordinary transformation from a communist dictatorship to a multi party democracy, from a centrally planned system to a market economy, and from a belligerent enemy of the West to a cooperative partner. This change was as unexpected as exceptional: two decades ago, only an idealist would have imagined the evil empire to transform so quickly and peacefully into a democratic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The term of transition reveals by itself the prevailing frame of mind at the beginning of the 1990 decade. The concept of transition intends the passing from a situation ā€“a singular balanceā€“ to another. It is an intermediate situation, a transitory state. There would be thus one market economy, only one model which it would be possible to reach quickly. The Russian experiment of the 90ies shows that while wanting to go from a point A (Soviet economy) to a point B (an idealized market economy), Russia reached another balance, a point C (a degraded market economy). For all these reasons it is preferable to speak about a process of transformation rather than about transition. It seems important, at this stage, to take an interest in the concept of market economy. The market is a central concept in economy, but its definition is seldom explicit. It is at the same time a physical place where are carried out the exchanges, a whole of outlets related to a product and the abstract place of the meeting between supply and demand. For certain authors like Ludwig von Meises, the market economy corresponds to capitalism and can be thus defined as the exact opposite of socialist economies. Television writers were forced to write a certain way and were forced to leave out information that society would deem as improper, rude, and even racist. However, in 1971, a groundbreaking American television sitcom broke through societal boundaries and transformed the way that the American audience viewed television. Engulfed by the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, fight for women s right, and the Watergate scandal, Norman Lear persevered through stereotypes and entertainment norms with his show All in the Family. This show approached its audience in a very blunt and crude manner; it made conflict the center of its comedy. It dealt with contemporary cultural issues in a relatable way, which blue allowed blue collar workers to learn about their current everyday issues and concerns. Through his show All in the Family, Norman Lear highlighted sensitive topics such as racism, bigotry, and sexual relations to prove that they are still alive in our country; thus, Norman Lear is an agent of change by bringing awareness to social issues. Born in 1922 to a very atypical family, Norman Lear had to become very independent. Norman Lear s father, Herman, was a conman who was arrested when Norman was nine years old. In an interview with PBS broadcast journalist Jeffrey Brown, Norman relives the moments of his dad s arrest, recounting the time when a man came up to him, pat him on his shoulder, and uttered [Norman] You re the man in the house (Source). It was at this moment that Lear realized the foolishness of the human condition. He wondered what kind of person would place such a great responsibility on a nine year old child, especially during times of hardship and sadness. What made Norman Lear s childhood even appalling was that he could not rely on his mother for support; everything Norman did was only satisfactory in her eyes. To escape his unsupportive life, Lear enlisted in the military and became a fighter pilot during World War II. Back in 2013, Larkspur Middle School got rid of pep rallies since it was a safety hazard to have too many people in the gym at the same time. Instead, they replaced pep rallies with spirit parades, so teams parade around the school for about fifteen minutes and basically back up the whole school day. I think the best way to bring school spirit back at Larkspur is to get rid of spirit parades, bring pep rallies back, and hold them outside. First of all, spirit parades take too long and the hallway gets crowded quickly. When all the classes were lined up along the lockers, it always got hot so fast. We had to stand up for about fifteen minutes while being squished together. For example, it took a while for it to start, and it only lasted for about five minutes.
