FACTS devices. Detailed simulations are carried out on two -machine systems to illustrate the control
features of these devices and their influence to increase power transfer capability and improve
system reliability. The DPFC is derived from the unified power-flow controller (UPFC) and DPFC
has the same control capability as the UPFC. The DPFC can be considered as a UPFC with an eliminated

The interaction between the DPFC, the network and the machines are analyzed.
Power quality improvement in a weak bus system using facts controllereSAT Journals
Abstract Power quality management is the main problem that the industry is facing today. This is mainly affected by the generation of harmonics. The growing use of electronic equipment produces a large amount of harmonics in distribution systems because of non-sinusoidal currents consumed by non-linear loads. As we know for the better quality of power, the voltage and current waveforms should be sinusoidal, but in actual practice it is somewhat disturbed and this phenomenon is called “Harmonic Distortion”. Voltage harmonics are generally present in supply of power from utility. Even though electronic and non-linear devices are flexible, economical and energy efficient, they may degrade power quality by creating harmonic currents and consuming excessive reactive power. The STATCOM as FACTS controller can be applied to a single non-linear load or many. It provides controlled current injection to remove harmonic current from the source side of electric system and also can improve the power factor. Keywords-: Controller design, PI Controller, FACTS and STATCOM.
Here is the outline of our presentation. First we will discuss the basic concept and objectives of FACTS. Then we will see the types of FACTS and their benefits. Finally we will be presenting the results of the model we have used with series, shunt compensator as well as static var compensator.
The significance of power factor correction (PFC) has long been visualized as a technology requirement for improving the efficiency of a power system network by compensating for the fundamental reactive power generated or consumed by simple inductive or capacitive loads. With the Information Age in full swing, the growth of high reliability, low cost electronic products have led utilities to escalate their power quality concerns created by the increase of such “switching loads.” These products include: entertainment devices such as Digital TVs, DVDs, and audio equipment; information technology devices such as PCs, printers, and fax-machines; variable speed motor drives for HVAC and white goods appliances; food preparation and cooking products such as microwaves and cook tops; and lighting products, which include electronic ballasts, LED and fluorescent lamps, and other power conversion devices that operate a variety of lamps. The drivers that have resulted in this proliferation are a direct result of the availability of low-cost switch-mode devices and control circuitry in all major end-use segments: residential, commercial, and industrial.
In order to keep power quality under the limits proposed by standards, it is required to incorporate some sort of compensation. There are two basic types of PFC circuits: active and passive. The simplest power factor correctors can be implemented using a passive filter to suppress the harmonics in conjunction with capacitors or inductors to generate or consume the fundamental reactive power, respectively. Active power factor correction circuits have proven to be more effective, generally integrated with the switch-mode circuitry, and actively control the input current of the load. This enables the most efficient delivery of electrical power from the power grid to the load. The demand for new smart, green products has set the stage for a worldwide migration from antiquated passive circuits to active correctors as well as from traditional analog technology to digital techniques. New digital active power factor correction delivers better full- and light-load power efficiency while lowering system costs, enabling smaller designs and providing a clear path for further feature enhancements and improved competitive positioning for a whole host of consumer and industrial products. Cirrus Logic’s novel advances in digital active PFC technology signify a major enabling element in the development of the newest generation of low cost, energy-efficient switch mode products.

An Approach of D-STATCOM in Single Phase System with Power Quality ImprovementIJERA Editor
The paper describes the design of D-STATCOM in single phase for voltage interruption mitigation of fault in an unbalance system. Speed of response is higher than static var compensator (SVC) and harmonic emission is less than SVC that is why D-STATCOM is used in place of static var compensator. It validates the performance of D-STATCOM for improving power quality and harmonics. It provides a guide for utilities to have an appropriate choice of FACTS devices for enhancing stability. The work proposes a two pulse STATCOM configurations in which voltage source inverter uses IGBT as a switching device have been simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Accordingly, simulation is first carried out to illustrate use of D-STATCOM in mitigating voltage interruption in single phase. The scope of the paper is to explore the D-STATCOM in single phase. Normally, D-STATCOM is not used in single phase, so an attempt has been made to introduce DSTATCOM in single phase load or household applications. Simulation results of 3KVAR D-STATCOM validate that integrated D-STATCOM with 230V, 91μF capacitor is suited for single phase system with voltage interruption mitigation capacit

In the deregulating electricity market, many private sector power producers
are participating actively. With growing number of the wind mills and solar
power generation, the reactive power production will be more because of
induction generator and inductive type load. Many blackouts have happened
in the past decades due to more reactive power which lead to a decrease in
the magnitude of real power. It is very essential to compensate the reactive
power, increase the real power flow in the transmission line, increase the
transmission efficiency, improve the system stability and be in a safer place
to save the fossil fuels for the future. In this paper the importance of reactive
power and its various compensation techniques are applied to a five bus
deregulated test case modeled and analyzed. The simulations were done

Power quality improvement of distribution systems asymmetry caused by power d...nooriasukmaningtyas
With an increase of non-linear load in today’s electrical power systems, the rate of power quality drops and the voltage source and frequency deteriorate if not properly compensated with an appropriate device. Filters are most common techniques that employed to overcome this problem and improving power quality. In this paper an improved optimization technique of filter applies to the power system is based on a particle swarm optimization with using artificial neural network technique applied to the unified power flow quality conditioner (PSO-ANN UPQC). Design particle swarm optimization and artificial neural network together result in a very high performance of flexible AC transmission lines (FACTs) controller and it implements to the system to compensate all types of power quality disturbances. This technique is very powerful for minimization of total harmonic distortion of source voltages and currents as a limit permitted by IEEE-519. The work creates a power system model in MATLAB/Simulink program to investigate our proposed optimization technique for improving control circuit of filters. The work also has measured all power quality disturbances of the electrical arc furnace of steel factory and suggests this technique of filter to improve the power quality.
Impact of hybrid FACTS devices on the stability of the Kenyan power system IJECEIAES
Flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) devices are deployed for improving power system’s stability either singly or as a combination. This research investigates hybrid FACTS devices and studies their impact on voltage, small-signal and transient stability simultaneously under various system disturbances. The simulations were done using five FACTS devices-static var compensator (SVC), static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), static synchronous series compensators (SSSC), thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) and unified power flow controller (UPFC) in MATLAB’s power system analysis toolbox (PSAT). These five devices were grouped into ten pairs and tested on Kenya’s transmission network under specific contingencies: the loss of a major generating machine and/or transmission line. The UPFC-STATCOM pair performed the best in all the three aspects under study. The settling times were 3 seconds and 3.05 seconds respectively for voltage and rotor angle improvement on the loss of a major generator at normal operation. The same pair gave settling times of 2.11 seconds and 3.12 seconds for voltage and rotor angle stability improvement respectively on the loss of a major transmission line at 140% system loading. From the study, two novel techniques were developed: A performance-based ranking system and classification for FACTS devices.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!

Cosmetic shop management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
Buying new cosmetic products is difficult. It can even be scary for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to skin trouble. The information needed to alleviate this problem is on the back of each product, but it's thought to interpret those ingredient lists unless you have a background in chemistry.
Instead of buying and hoping for the best, we can use data science to help us predict which products may be good fits for us. It includes various function programs to do the above mentioned tasks.
Data file handling has been effectively used in the program.
The automated cosmetic shop management system should deal with the automation of general workflow and administration process of the shop. The main processes of the system focus on customer's request where the system is able to search the most appropriate products and deliver it to the customers. It should help the employees to quickly identify the list of cosmetic product that have reached the minimum quantity and also keep a track of expired date for each cosmetic product. It should help the employees to find the rack number in which the product is placed. It is also Faster and more efficient way.
Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

ACTIVE POWER: It is power that does actual work - e.g: creating heat, lifting
loads, etc. (unit-KW)
REACTIVE POWER: It is the power that doesn't do any real work.-e.g: Current
that charges a capacitor, or current that creates the magnetic field around a coil for
another. (unit- KVAR)
APPARENT POWER: It is the mathematical combination of these two.(REAL +
REACTIVE) .(Unit-KVA)

5. Necessity of Reactive power
Real power accomplishes useful work while reactive power
supports the voltage that must be controlled for system
reliability. so the reactive power affects voltages throughout
the system.
If voltage on the system is not high enough, active power
cannot be supplied.
Motor loads and other loads require reactive power to convert
the flow of electrons into useful work.
It required to establish the magnetic and/or electric fields so
that energy conversion can take place.
Due to reactive power transformer transform the power.
6. Need of compensation of reactive power
Power factor improvement: It regulate the power factor of the system and
maintain the voltage stability we need to compensate reactive power .
Minimize the losses: It reduces the copper loss by minimizing current flow
through line.
Improving generator capability: reactive power production can limit a
generator’s real power capability.
Quality of power improvement: it helps in maintaining the voltage profile
Blackouts : dangerous black out may occure due improper compensation

12. Facts devices
( Flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) ):
STATIC VAR COMPENSATOR:
A static VAR compensator (or SVC) is an electrical
device for providing reactive power on
transmission networks. The term "static" refers to the
fact that the SVC has no moving parts.
The SVC is an automated impedance matching device,
designed to bring the system closer to unity power
factor.
Under inductive (lagging) conditions, the capacitor
banks are automatically switched in, thus providing a
higher system voltage.
ADVANTAGES:
They are more reliable .
Faster in operation .
Smoother control and more flexibility can be provided
with the help of thyristors.
14. STATCOM (STATIC SYNCHRONOUS
COMPENSATER):
The devices use synchronous voltage sources for generating
or absorbing reactive power. A synchronous voltage source
(SVS) is constructed using a voltage source converter (VSC).
Such a shunt compensating device is called static
compensator or STATCOM .
ADVNTAGES:
The reactive components used in the STATCOM are much
smaller than those in the SVC.
The characteristics of STATCOM are superior. .
Reduction of harmonic filter capacity.
Reduction of size of high value air-cored reactor.
Reduction of equipment volume and foot-print.

18. Future of reactive power compensation in INDIA
Its been 20 years of The first FACTS device installed in India is
Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) with Fixed
Series Compensation (FSC) at 400 kV transmission line
between Kanpur (U.P) and Ballabgarh (Haryana) in the
Northern Grid.
Siemens receives order for largest Statcom reactive power compensation project
in India Erlangen, 2016-Jun-27.
The total estimated cost of Statcom project is Rs 704 Cores and
it will plan located in different parts of India from north to
south.
Raipur-Rourkela 400 kV, D/C ,412 Km transmission line with FSC-TCSC installed
Punjab signed agreement with Korean company (The boltz)
For reactive power compensation in 2015 December.
19. Conclusion:
In developing nation like India, power demand in near
future is very high and to meet this increased power
demand; not only installed capacity has to be increased but also transmission
network to be strengthened.
With the installation of Fixed Series Capacitor with TCSC
improve dynamic performance under various
contingencies of operation and may avoid disintegration
of grid as faced a number of times in the past.
Under Indian circumstances, it is important to utilize existing
systems as efficiently as possible, to increase both the
capacity and the quality of present transmission networks,
even if for limited period, through various innovative
methods with minimum investment.
