The Rise Of The Paleolithic And Neolithic Societies
The beginning of human society began with ape looking humanoids chasing animals with clubs,
inbreeding, and banging on rocks with sticks attempting to make fire. Harsh generalizations, but in an
essence it is true. The Paleolithic and Neolithic societies were a result of the huge leap forward which
marked significant (of the time) technological advancements and more effective social structures. But
a lot of those advancements were the logic to breed outside their families and to save their foods
during the winter, which is fairly obvious considering all societies at the time figured them out. But
the societies that truly stood out for being different and unique in their own developments were the
most influential, like Sumer, the first Mesopotamian society. The Sumerians of Mesopotamia were the
most influential to the modern day world. Around during 3500 BCE(Mertens, notes), they advanced
crazily quickly compared to the civilizations before them. Initially they were groups of free people
and slaves, but eventually as settlements expanded and populations grew, cities developed with
effective leadership. Sumer made the biggest contributions to the modern world terms of social
classes/structures, technology/logistics, and culture. Several of those including the creation of the
wheel, the calendar, the first forms of writing and democracy.
The first huge contribution that the Sumerians made in their time living that continues to affect us
today was their complex social

Diffusion Weighted Imaging
Trigger
Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) is an established tool to demonstrate the structural changes to the
neuronal fibers (microstructures) in brain. Diffusion Tractography Imaging (DTI) metrics based on
DWI are vital non invasive measures in multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury. Diffusion of water
molecules is on the scale of 13 microns/sec in the spinal cord, which is 15mm in diameter and exhibits
a periodic physiological movement. Therefore, DWI should exhibit high spatial and time resolution,
importantly to acquire data during least motion phase (quiescence) of SC. The desired quiescence can
be detected from physiological signals (ECG, Pules) to trigger the acquisition (gating). However, this
increases the scan time (time to wait ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Earlier studies have used agar phantom diffusion metrics, however the motion model we used is one
directional, unlike multi directional spinal cord.
2. The spinal cord movement is complex and affected by physiological changes. The assumption, that
patient heart rate and blook pressue does not change between VE (to detect motion) and DTI scan., or
it imposes insignificant effect on spinal cord motion
3. The spinal cord motion is affected by cervical spine length and curvature of the subject. There is no
single position technique to standardize the neck curvature as it affects the cord movement.
4. Every manufacturer uses different internal clock to synchronize pulse oximeter measurement and
image acquisition. Therefore our technique cannot be directly applied to other manufacturer and need
to account for their internal clock time delay.
Required resources (the main ones)
1. Agar phantom

Emotions In The Raven By Edgar Allan Poe
Emotions The speaker of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe , undergoes a range of emotions during the
telling of his tale. He begins his story in a depressed mood due to the death of his love , Lenore. When
he meets the raven, his emotional state runs from Respect to Hatred then to terrified. Poe demonstrates
the speakers attitude in order to explain how the attitude change of the speaker shows that he will
never recover from the grief he suffers for the lost of Lenore.
Throughout the story, the speaker finds the raven in his house and begins to give the raven respect
once they met. In the story The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe , Poe states, But

Child Abuse Is A Social Problem Essay
Child abuse is a social problem that continuously produces a wave of concern. The State of New
Jersey Department of Children and Families explains that Abuse is the physical, sexual or emotional
harm or risk of harm to another child under the age of 18 caused by a parent or other person who acts
as a caregiver for the child (2016). The harsh reality of child abuse and its consequences is recognized
throughout this essay. The cost of child abuse can be understood through direct and indirect costs.
Direct costs describe those of the child welfare system, judicial and law enforcement, health and
mental health systems (New Jersey Child Assault Prevention, 2015). Comparatively, indirect costs
apply to much more long term problems/a turn of events the child victim and their abuser(s) may
have. These costs involve the effects abuse has or may have in regards to education, mental health,
substance abuse, teen pregnancy, welfare dependency, domestic violence, homelessness, juvenile
delinquency and adult criminality (New Jersey Child Assault Prevention, 2015). It costs a substantial
amount of money to deal with child abuse. Moving away from these consequences, it is arguable that
children exposed to violence or abuse, if left unaddressed or ignored, are at an increased risk for
emotional and behavioral problems in the future. They may not be able to express their feelings safely
and as a result, may develop difficulties regulating their emotions (Joyful Heart

The Nature And Role Of Law In Democracy
The nature and role of law is important to political theory because the use of law raises important
questions about oppression versus liberation and morality. Law in a democracy in relation to the
citizens that it governs should strive not to oppress, but rather to liberate and assist citizens when in
conflict with higher officials or fellow citizens. Laws in a democracy should be held with the intent of
safeguarding the public and promoting the common good. John Stuart Mill makes a valid point when
he says: The only purpose for which power can rightfully be exercised over any member of a civilized
community against his will is to prevent harm to others.
In addition to this, there is a fine line between the law and morality, as not every citizen shares the
same moral values. Law is able to be more finite, as it has a written set of rules that citizens should
strive to follow. However, morality is more subjective, as it weighs the right and wrong in given
situations.
The rule of law simply states that the law should be the overarching guideline. The rule of law
provides a framework that both citizens and government officials should follow. John Locke stated
that the rule of law provided protection from every other member of society, as indeed they are from
him. The rule of law allows for the right to life, liberty, and property so long as harm is not taken to
other citizens. In addition, the rule of law protects individuals from the state and ensures that
government is

Comparing Buddhist And Hindu Architecture
Lesson 2 Hindu and Buddhist architecture both have an extended history on sensuousness involved in
their religious buildings. The Khajuraho s Vishvanatha (Lord of the World) Temple built in 1002 CE
during the Chandella dynasty consist of four towers each of which extend higher than the other. This
temple was dedicated to Shiva (the destroyer god in Hindu), and it was constructed to signify Shiva s
mountain home. While he is known as the god of destruction he is also recognized as the regenerative
force of the Hindu religion. The northern Indian style Visvanatha Temple s exterior walls exhibit the
idea of Shiva s regenerative force by depicting humans, gods, and yakshis (a female earth spirt

The Theory Of Moral Sentiments And The Wealth Of Nations
How Adam smith can change your life, at the beginning the author gives you a history of Adam smith
and all that he has done. From his books: The theory of moral sentiments and the wealth of nations.
How can someone from two hundred and fifty years ago, a Scottish moral philosopher can still be
relevant currently in 2016. Why is because of the questions that he asked in his two books above some
of which have been through different editions like The Theory of Moral Sentiments. The author of this
book Russ Roberts had not even read the book the Theory of Moral Sentiments until his friend Dan
Klein at George Mason University suggested him to interview him about it on one of his weekly
podcast, EconTalk (Roberts, p.2 3).
The first chapter the author is preparing you for what to expect and what Adam smith is like with his
sense of writing. I did not what to expect when I started reading this but, Roberts giving you a brief
insight into Smith s life and more importantly his death. No journal or diary survived Smith s death
which surprised me for what type of impact he had back in the 1700s until now (Roberts, p.7). The
author lets you know what is upcoming in the next few chapters and is not giving you too much
information too soon. Even though, Adam Smith is the father of economics this book is not exactly
about that. These concepts in this book to apply to anyone of any major, any demographic, any race,
or any place in your life. Lastly, the last part that at the end of chapter

Nicolas Maduro s Machiavellian Struggle
The battle zone has become further entrenched between the protesters and the government in the
Capitol of Venezuela, Caracas. With 13 dead and 150 injured tension between Nicolás Maduro and his
people is at an all time high (Glusing). In the post Hugo Chavez world not only has Maduro failed to
inspire the confidence of his people, but his inability to deal with rising economic woes has only
worsened his relationship with his people. Machiavelli in his works The Prince and The Discourses,
deals with how a leader should deal, interact, and satisfy his subjects. Thus, Machiavellian lens could
be critical to best explain the current state of tension within Venezuela. To do this it is first necessary
to explain Machiavelli s method, second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Machiavelli s focus on pragmatism and realism seems to eliminate a worry about ethical concerns. For
example, Machiavelli s pragmatism, distinguish(es) between cruelty well used and cruelty abused.
(Machiavelli 30). One may argue Machiavelli s distinction smuggles in a level of morality. In reality it
is clear that this distinction is focused on the preservation of power in order to allow, their subjects ...
to let bygones be bygones (Machiavelli 30). Machiavelli makes no moral distinction between the cruel
actions he merely makes a distinction upon what will best allow a ruler to maintain power. In The
Discourses the emphasis of good policy being that which creates stability again ignores morality
finding that new rulers should remake everything else in the state from scratch to do this they should,
make the rich poor and poor rich. (Machiavelli 131). He even gives substance to wicked deeds finding
they involve, a certain nobility (Machiavelli 132). This dramatic level of apathy to the right of the
individuals or what are good actions demonstrate his emphasis of preservation of stability over
morality. After examining core concepts of Machiavelli, how could his works have been used to help
secure support for Maduro directly after his election? Why the current situation unfolded? What
course of action would Machiavelli advise for Maduro to do in order to quell protests? Finally, a brief

Good Earth Lessons
There are many lessons we can learn from books that we imply to our lives today. The Good Earth is
one of these book that show a great deal of lessons learned that are still in use today. In this paper you
will see how what people did in the Good Earth is still used today. This paper will talk about 3 main
points. First and foremost I will talk about land, then I will talk the concept of greed with money,
finally I will end with the concept of change.
Today many countries fight for land and have been for a long time. Land is a very important thing
because it helps with colonization and It help the country look more superior over other countries. In
the Good Earth Wang Lung is always attached to his land, and whenever he gets enough money he
goes and buys more land. This lesson is used not only today but also back in the olden ... Show more

In the book Wang Lung was a poor farmer who valued money a lot and looked down on the poor
when he became rich. This concept of valuing money and looking down on the poor is still around
today. How? An Example are chairs men. A chairman is a person who is the head of a company or an
organization. This is a good example because since they have a lot of power they easily look down on
people. Many people look down on another because of their flaws. This happens everywhere not only
reality but in books as well. Finally onto my third point change in a person s character. In today s
society many people s characteristic change throughout the their lifetimes. In the Good Earth Wang
Lung s characteristic changed from being a loving poor man to a rich lonely man. Characteristics
change in everyone and everything. An example is Demi Lovato because she at first was a shy young
lady who soon became an icon for those young ladies who feel sad and vulnerable. Throughout
society people are different and change is a part of this difference which people throughout the years

Humanistic Approach Analysis
Good evening, Owen.
Thank you for your response. I have read a couple of responses, and they are similar, in that they
mention that professional educators mix and match approaches to curriculum, more than, perhaps,
stick to one flavor. I mentioned in my post that I began as a supporter of the behavioral approach to
curriculum. Yet, now, I am full time teacher of record in a prime example of the humanistic approach
and I love it. I am an engineer by spirit, so I tend toward the behavior and systems approaches by
nature. However, I ve been involved in the International Baccalaureate curriculum for the past 6 years,
first as a parent, then as a substitute in the classroom, and currently as teacher of record for Middle
School Science. I ve watched my own children mature in the system, and then fail, because of their
point of entry. I ve seen other children mature from Kindergarten to Middle School and have noticed
the difference between those who started here in Kindergarten and those who came within two years
prior to Middle School.
Having said all that, I feel that I have had the opportunity to experience the behavioral approach to ...

How Did The Berlin Wall Impact The Modern World
The Berlin Wall was a barrier that divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989 that completely cut off (by land)
West Berlin from surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin until it was opened in November
1989.2 By 1949, Germany had become two separate countries The Federal Republic of Germany
(West Germany), run by the Allies, and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), run by the
Soviet Union. The wall was made to define West Germany from East Germany, and has impacted the
modern world in many different ways.
The Berlin Wall was constructed due to the difference in political ideologies between the Soviet Union
and the allies. The Soviet Union believed communism was the prime system to run Germany, whilst
the Allies preferred capitalism. The Soviet Union came up with their own solution to solve the issue,
and before German citizens knew it, the East Berlin construction workers had built the Berlin
blockade as directed by the German Democratic Republic (GDR), controlled by the Soviets.1

hours for the government, while getting hardly anything in return. I was physically and
psychologically destroyed so many injustices. I took two years of therapy to recover. I suffered from a

why communism denies the individual the right to economic and social prosperity, and the result of
the lack of these basic human rights were recognised by other countries, therefore putting a halt on the

It is difficult for ones to keep their identities and feel a sense of belonging when they travel to another
country. The historical fiction The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill, a Canadian author, leads to the
further research in the socio political discipline. Many scholars state that slaves or immigrants lost
their identities through different life challenges and diaspora situations. The scholarly article Currency
and Cultural Consumption Lawrence Hill s The Book of Negroes by Andrea Medovarski, a professor,

Writing within the socio political discipline and the term Black Diaspora borrowed from my primary
resource The Book of Negroes, I show how do the difficulties and situations shape a person in the
literary fiction. I argue that Aminata Diallo does not fit into both North America and Africa even she
finds and keeps her personal identity. Finding and keeping personal identities is a profound theme in
The Book of Negroes. The scene that Aminata boards the boat, her friend says: I have taken many men
to the sea, but not once have I seen one return to his village (Hill 51). Even though Aminata is only
eleven year old by that time, she has a strong sense of belonging to her motherland, so she tells her

helps her overcome many dilemmas. Oduwobi states in his article that quite a number of female slaves

Essay Comparing Sonny s Blues And The Weary Blues
The High of Music In several cultures, music is said to be a universal language. Music can portray
emotion that anyone can understand and relate to, transcending any singular tongue. In Sonny s Blues
by James Baldwin, and The Weary Blues by Langston Hughes, music is portrayed as being a
connection to the happenings of character s lives, a way of channeling and expressing their emotions
as something physical. Both of the characters are going through difficult times during their separate
works. In Sonny s Blues, the brother of the main character, Sonny, tells his story, from the time they
were living together to when they went their separate ways. Sonny is a heroine addict who has
recently been released from a detainment center of some sort, some place where he was forced into a
sudden and painful withdrawal. In The Weary Blues, the narrator depicts a negro man playing the
piano and singing about how his life has gone wrong. The negro man s lyrics say, ... Show more

Sonny s first time back to playing after he cleaned up from his addiction showed a whirlwind of
different emotions; anxiety, self doubt, excitement, and fear. The stuttering emotions of this part of the
work can be reflected through the stuttering dialogue. Baldwin uses lots of long sentences that are
very choppy and disjointed, such as, He and the piano stammered, started one way, got scared,
stopped; started another way, panicked, marked time, started again; then seemed to have found a
direction, panicked again, got stuck. The negro man in The Weary Blues wasn t showing the same
emotion, but he was in a different setting as well. Hughes uses expressive phrases like He made that
poor piano moan with melody, and In a deep voice with a melancholy tone, to show the emotion in
this piece. This creates a connection with the deep, soulful music that is spilling out of the

The Differences Between China And Western Europe
Imagine living in America and it not being well America. There would be different ways of
agriculture. Different languages. Different religious beliefs. Having a different way of living in
society, economically and politically. Everything would be different if China would have went about
and conquered Western Europe during the 14 1500 s.
There are many things in history that can mark the milestone differences between China and Western
Europe. No one really knows when Chinese culture really began, however Chinese civilization began
near the Yellow River (Huang He) becoming North China, and Yangtze River (Chang Jiang) indicating
South China. The first Dynasty, the Xia (Hsia) Dynasty began in about 2070 or 2205 BCE. Historians
have found proof of the wheel first being used in China during this time showing urban culture did
exist. The Shang Dynasty followed introducing the first Chinese Government. A lot of the basic
Chinese culture was introduced during the Zhou (Chou) Dynasty such as the Mandate of Heaven.
China contains a lot of history throughout the years. There were battles between the states, many new
emperors and leaders, as well as new technologies. All of which brought three great Chinese
philosophies; Daoism, Confucianism, and Legalism. It wasn t until about 581 CE that China was
reunifies under the leader, Sui Wendi. Wendi linked North and South China together by the Grand

Housing Issues Of Affordable Housing
Affordable housing has become the paramount issue of cities and dense urban areas. San Francisco is
the posterchild of an unaffordable city that regardless of immense investment from blue chip firms
like Google, Facebook, and their ilk of startups evaluated at $1 billion or more, policymakers and
elected officials must wrestle with the housing affordability crisis that is considered endogenous to
swaths of homelessness and record statistics on crime. In New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio has
made affordable housing the centerpiece of his legislation and championed the cause as a social justice
issue neighborhoods must remain affordable to maintain diversity for all races, ethnicities, and low
income families. A small sample of 827 New Yorkers by the NY1 Baruch College City Poll found the
main concern of respondents was affordable housing while crime, jobs, and homelessness were
peripheral problems (Cuza, 2016). The public discourse on how to address housing across the United
States has pointed to negative externalities that surround rent regulation and homeownership.
Conversely, for this essay I will present various cases in order to illustrate the housing crunch is
influenced less by housing and land regulations, or antagonistic homeowners but is induced by global
market forces.
What is known about the dearth of inexpensive living spaces in high cost, heavy populated areas is its
scarcity is a function of supply. Demand remains a non issue for policy makers as demand has

Comparison Of Drummer Hodge And I Look Into My Glass By...
Thomas Hardy was a poet and novelist from the 19th century. He was born in June 1840, and he had
wrote over 800 poems in his lifetime, a lot of which were published in his latter years. I am going to
compare and contrast two of his poems: Drummer hodge and I Look into my glass.
Drummer Hodge is a poem about a young man who tragically lost his life in the Boer war. Hardy
heard news about the death of the young drummer who was from Dorchester in wessex (the region
that Hardy most commonly wrote about) The drummers in the war could often be as young as thirteen
or fourteen, as they would be dishonest about their age to the recruitment officers. Hodge is not the
drummer s name; it was often a nickname given to agricultural workers at this period ... Show more

Both poems use the abab structure, have three stanzas and concentrate on the theme of death. Whilst
the poem of Drummer hodge has the backdrop of a huge landscape, I look into my glass portrays the
sufferings of a melancholy man who is writing in self pity. The language differs a lot between the two
pems as Drummer Hodge is a external pem that can easily be imagined however I look into my glass
is not only internalised it is introverted. Hodge himself wouldnt of wanted to die so young while
Hardy felt he had lived his life and wanted it to come to an end, this displays a huge contrast between
the poems. In I look into my glass the coldness of other people s hearts is emphasised by the
assonance of grown cold and then lonely in the next line. It also underlines Hardy s grieving with the
words steals and eve . Assonance cannot be found in Drummer Hodge as I believe he is telling a story
while in I look into my glass he truly wants sympathy for himself from the

Criticism And Analysis Of Puddn Head Wilson
Criticism and Analysis of Puddn head Wilson
In American history, we have good authors, great authors and some bad. One of the most famous
authors and probably the greatest that everyone has heard of is Mark Twain. Twain was an American
author and humorist in American Literature. Twain was born in Florida, Missouri, on November 30,
1835. In his first writing, he adopted his pen name from a well known call of the man sounding the
river in shallow places.
In 1861 he went to Carson City, Nevada, as secretary to his brother. For two years he edited papers
and moved from place to place. In 1867 he visited France, Italy and Palestine. Twains two greatest
masterpieces, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn were drawn from his childhood experiences and the
life on the Mississippi frontier. Mark Twain has a legacy as an American author because of his books
like Huckleberry Fin and Pudd nhead Wilson. He put his self in the American popular culture of
literature. Twains novels and stories are popular in the media. His work has been remade into comic
strips, children s films, and cartoons. His image and his words have also figured in commercial
advertising campaigns. He is one of the greatest.

Cisco Systems: Solving Business Problems Through Collaboration
1. Discuss the nature of the market structure and the demand for Cisco s products.
The nature of the market structure and demand of Cisco Systems is its business market which contains

than other companies, they still have a good and profitable relationship with their clients. For the
customers of Cisco Systems, this implies that they will receive better and faster service and products

would want less than what is supplied. This means that they want something more or they want
something less or something else that makes the demand for business market fluctuate more and more

types of buying situations?
Straight rebuys: It is widely known that whenever purchase cycles come up, technology also changes.
Cisco engages in the field of high technology which implies that they usually have few truly straight
rebuys. Because of this, their corporate buyers may try to find better alternatives to replace the ones
they already have. Because straight buys are when buyers routinely purchase something without
modification, this would likely occur in the situation of Cisco when a client orders a set of router or
switches shortly after purchasing the same items. A gradual rollout replacement or an expansion could
be the cause of this.
Modified rebuy: Modified rebuy is when a buyer wants to modify a product s specifications,

Under the constitution, article two section two, the president is named as commander in chief of the

the president s wartime role was too powerful, and thus gave Congress a set of checks and balances on
the president s war powers. Only Congress, and not the president, has the power to declare war under
article 1 section 8 of the constitution. This means that if the president tries to launch a military action
without consent, Congress can end it effectively by not funding their deployment thereby forcing the

Protein Thermal Stability Essay
Proteins are a series of connected amino acids, and in food products, proteins provide both nutritional
and functional properties that contribute to the quality of a food system (Christen and Smith 2000).
Protein in the diet is essential to the maintenance of life and health. Proteins are compounds with a
function that do work in the body such as facilitate reactions; however, proteins are also functional in
food systems. Proteins are used for a variety of reasons such as: to create an emulsion, join pieces of
meat together, form a skin on the surface of a product, and form a stable foam matrix. Milk proteins
such as whey and casein are isolated for many different functions in food systems such as: foaming,
whipping, gelation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are multiple methodologies implemented by scientists to determine protein concentration. One
of the oldest and most commonly used methods is the Biuret method (Okutucu and others 2007). The
Biuret method is a colormetric assay that utilizes a spectrophotometric change accomplished by
reactions containing peptide bonds in conjunction with copper (Okutucu and others 2007; Gornall and
others 1949) to determine protein concentration based on a standard reference. Thermal stability of a
protein is an important factor in food systems. Heat is commonly used to cook and/or sterilize a food
product for a number of reasons. Heat is used in cooking to denature the proteins present in bacteria to
destroy them; however, if certain food proteins are denatured, the food product could lose its
functionality. Heating can also have beneficial effects on proteins such as flavor, tenderness and
digestibility (Christen and Smith 2000).
Protein thermal stability is not fully understood and can be due to a host of factors such as internal
folding, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic forces, and calcium affinity (Vogt and Argos 1997). There are
many types of proteins that convey thermally stable properties such as malate dehydrogenase, lactate
dehydrogenase, ferrodoxin, hydrolase, phosphofructokinase, and others (Vogt and Argos 1997). Argos
and others (1997) explain that protein thermal stability is a result of the amino acid sequence and the

Use Of Parody In Dr Strangelove
To show satire in Dr Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, director
Stanley Kubrick uses parody, exaggeration, and incongruity. One effective method Kubrick uses is
parody. In the movie, Kubrick plays on actors and typical stereotypes. Major Kong, as played by
Louis Burton Lindley, Jr. or Slim Pickens, is a play on the American Cowboy. When Major Kong goes
down to the bombs to open the doors he gets dropped with the bomb. As he is seen leaving the plane,
Major Kong rides the bomb as if it were a bull in a rodeo. From Major Kong s heavy accent to his
cowboy, Major Kong is the stereotypical American Cowboy. Kubrick also plays on the Nazi scientist
who were sought after in WWII. Dr. Strangelove is a play on Werhner von Braun, a Nazi scientist.
While in the war room, Dr. Strangelove suggests a backup plan for if the doomsday device was fired.
During his speech, his hand keeps doing a Nazi salute as he struggles to suppress it. This is a parody
because during this time the US looked passed their Nazi ways due to their intelligence needed for the
space program. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the president if they fired all their missiles they would prevail and suffer only modest and acceptable
casualties. The general later describes these casualties as only ten to twenty million people killed. If
the president were to only kill ten to twenty million people he would be known as the greatest mass

How Did Dorothea Dix Impact The World
What greater bliss than to look back on days spent in usefulness, in doing good to those around us
(Dorothea Dix Quotes). The same person that said this famous quote started the evolution to a better
path for the imprisoned and the mentally ill in the 1800 s. Dorothea Lynde Dix, a famous Civil War
nurse made a difference in this world by traveling around the world to give back and help the ill and
imprisoned. She gave them better lives as well as taking a stand for women to be able to help the
wounded in the Civil War. Dorothea Dix impacted the world by changing perceptions on mentally ill
and prisoners. She gave them a fair chance to live a satisfying life by being a huge part of creating
dozens of new institutions across the United States and in Europe. Dorothea Dix started her change in
the world when she was younger by becoming a teacher. In 1821 Dix opened an academy for wealthy
young ladies in her grandmother s house, and conducted a free school for poor children. Her
contagious joy in teaching made her schools highly successful. Due to an illness she had to leave

her life and time to help strangers. Due to her constant crusade things were changing and looking

Building A Cashless Society, Increased Efficiency,...
Executive Summary
Moving towards a cashless society, increased efficiency, improved service offering and better security
for the DCU Community form the premise of this report. Technology is changing at a rapid pace and
the challenge lies in identifying the optimum campus card solution, which will best suit the needs of
DCU. From a thorough examination of a host of campus card programmes, a comprehensive set of
recommendations has been reached. A contactless, proprietary, one card system is believed to be the
most advantageous solution for the DCU campus. Future interoperability, system reliability and ease
of use have been paramount in this decision making process. A staggered campus wide rollout is
proposed, to allow for close monitoring of each implementation phase. This will ensure a seamless
integration of the contactless technology without vast initial outlay. The service offering of this one
card solution will incorporate all aspects of campus life; payment, access control, security, printing,
photocopying, vending and car parking. The system has been designed to ensure future compatibility
with non campus vendors, ultimately facilitating growth of the card s functionality. The Department of
Transport are currently proposing a contactless payment system for public transport, particularly in the
Dublin region. Herein lies an ideal opportunity for the proposed DCU system to integrate with outside
vendors. As with any new initiative within an organisation, top

Sex Offender Notification System
Since 1994 nationwide laws have been put into an effect nationwide asking for those convicted of a
sexual crime be placed on a registered list. In the 20 years since its implementation, the registry has
added several caveats such as a tier based registry where the violent offenders were kept at a higher
more prominent level. As well as public notice every few months of an offender relocating or living in
your area. While some low levels offenders must relinquish 15 years of their life notifying the public
and remaining on this list, those on the higher tier of the list must reregister more often and for the rest
of their lives. While on the surface it would seem that having such a list, coupled with a lifetime of

Since it s their enactment however some states have seen a dramatic increase in sex offenders whether
due to the expansion of the definition of a sexual crime, or the reclassification of some convicts as a
result of this law. An example of this would be prior to the law if a teenager was tried as an adult in
their state, served time but under the state s legislature was not required to register as an offender.
Under the current law, there is a possibility this teenager will have to register for the rest of their life
every 3 months. Failure to do so may result in a felony charge or possible life sentence. If they were to
go to college they would need to reregister with the state they reside in as well as their home state, and
would likely also be rejected for federal aid as the classification may have already pegged him as a

How Did The British Invasion Influence American Culture
The British Invasion was a phenomenon that began in the 1960 s and has somehow kept itself alive
even to this day. Americans have been bombarded with British culture for years, and rather than shun
the differences, they have accepted them into their lives. Music, television, and literature in America
have all been changed due to British influence. In many different ways, the British Invasion has
greatly affected American culture. The early British invasion was an amazing time for music. The
American music culture blossomed and grew, leaving even today s public infatuated. During the early
years of the British Invasion, many American artists were put out of business. Of the few American

When it comes to most people, one band in particular pops into mind. For some, maybe it is The Who,
singing My Generation. However, more often than not, it is The Beatles who stand above the rest. The
Beatles are credited for being the main cause of the British invasion. They tried for many years to gain
the support and recognition of the American public, but to no avail. In 1963, The Beatles released a
single, trying to get onto the American charts, but it ended up only gaining popularity in England.
(Gilmore, Mikal) But on November 22, 1963, the unthinkable happens, and president John F. Kennedy
was shot and killed. After seeing how heartbroken the American public was, the Beatles swooped,
seeming to be the perfect antidote to their broken hearts. The beatles released another song, I Want to
Hold Your Hand, which quickly made it to number 1 on Billboard Hot 100 . At one point in their
careers, the band held down all top 5 positions on the national singles chart. They could not last
forever though, and on September 1969, John Lennon privately announced that he would be leaving
the group. The public did not know about the break up until April 10, 1970, when Paul McCartney
announced that he too was leaving the band. Though the Beatles were gone, many amazing British
artists have since followed in their footsteps. One Direction, Ed Sheeran, and The Rolling Stones are

Biological Theories Of Criminology
Lombroso believed that the characteristics of the criminal are outside the immediate control of the
individual, such as biological, psychological and sociological (Ellwood 1912, 717; White and Haines
2008, 33; 37). Biological characteristics are divided into three types of somatoypes, Endomorph,
Mesomorph and Ectomorph (Shoemaker 2013, 68). Endomorph is the excessive, soft body weight and
an extroverted personality (Shoemaker 2013, 68). Mesomorph is an athletically built and muscular
structure and aggressive behaviour (Shoemaker 2013, 68). Ectomorph, can be described as thin and
delicate and having an introverted personality who are not likely to commit crime (Shoemaker 2013,
68). Furthermore, around the 20th century, phrenology was the most ... Show more content on

Classicism and Positivism have both positively and negatively impacted on contemporary
understandings of criminology and criminal justice practices. Currently, both theories are viewed in
combination with each other rather than individually (Fishbein 1990, 27). If considered alone they do
not offer a complete assessment of the contributions to criminal behaviour (Fishbein 1990, 27). In the
past, biological factors were largely rejected as a result of unscientific findings and the inability to
posit rational explanations (Fishbein 1990, 27). The viewpoint by criminologists was either nature
(biological) or nurture (sociological, environmental) (Fishbein 1990, 29). Whereas, the viewpoint is
now nature plus nurture and findings are now supported by science and posit rational explanations
(Fishbein 1990, 29). In relation to the characteristics of criminals, there continues to be criminal
stereotypes based on physical and sociological characteristics, especially race and class (Gatti and
Verde 2012, 20). In relation to punishment, the 18th century English system agreed with Beccaria s
view on punishment as it was said to provide effective deterrence and reflect the status quo (Draper
2000, 183). However, they did not agree with the same methods of punishment, unlike the 20th
century (Draper 2000,

Similarities And Differences Between The Giver Movie And...
There are many differences between the book and movie version of The Giver. The movie changed
many parts of the book, to make the movie more interesting and intense, so that people will be more
interested in watching it. One difference is the way that Jonas received the memories from the Giver.
Another difference is the relationship between Jonas and Fiona. The final difference is when Jonas
flees his community when he wasn t supposed to and succeeded without getting caught. This essay
will describe the differences between the book and the movie version of the Giver.
The way that Jonas receives the memories in the book is different from the way he receives the
memories in the movie. In the book, Jonas had to receive the Giver s memories by laying down on a
bed while the Giver rubbed his back to transfer the memories to Jonas, Jonas felt nothing unusual at
first. He only felt the light touch of the old man s hands on his back ( Pg 101). However, in the movie,
it was different. In the movie Jonas had to sit on a chair in front of the Giver. The Giver would hold
Jonas wrists to transfer the memories to him. If the movie had used the method from the book, then we
wouldn t be able to see Jonas facial expressions because he would be facing down on the bed. Jonas
relationship with the Giver is different from the book to the movie and so is his relationship with
Fiona.
Jonas and Fiona never really had a strong relationship in the book. However, they did have a

  • 2. The Rise Of The Paleolithic And Neolithic Societies The beginning of human society began with ape looking humanoids chasing animals with clubs, inbreeding, and banging on rocks with sticks attempting to make fire. Harsh generalizations, but in an essence it is true. The Paleolithic and Neolithic societies were a result of the huge leap forward which marked significant (of the time) technological advancements and more effective social structures. But a lot of those advancements were the logic to breed outside their families and to save their foods during the winter, which is fairly obvious considering all societies at the time figured them out. But the societies that truly stood out for being different and unique in their own developments were the most influential, like Sumer, the first Mesopotamian society. The Sumerians of Mesopotamia were the most influential to the modern day world. Around during 3500 BCE(Mertens, notes), they advanced crazily quickly compared to the civilizations before them. Initially they were groups of free people and slaves, but eventually as settlements expanded and populations grew, cities developed with effective leadership. Sumer made the biggest contributions to the modern world terms of social classes/structures, technology/logistics, and culture. Several of those including the creation of the wheel, the calendar, the first forms of writing and democracy. The first huge contribution that the Sumerians made in their time living that continues to affect us today was their complex social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Diffusion Weighted Imaging Trigger Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI) is an established tool to demonstrate the structural changes to the neuronal fibers (microstructures) in brain. Diffusion Tractography Imaging (DTI) metrics based on DWI are vital non invasive measures in multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury. Diffusion of water molecules is on the scale of 13 microns/sec in the spinal cord, which is 15mm in diameter and exhibits a periodic physiological movement. Therefore, DWI should exhibit high spatial and time resolution, importantly to acquire data during least motion phase (quiescence) of SC. The desired quiescence can be detected from physiological signals (ECG, Pules) to trigger the acquisition (gating). However, this increases the scan time (time to wait ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Earlier studies have used agar phantom diffusion metrics, however the motion model we used is one directional, unlike multi directional spinal cord. 2. The spinal cord movement is complex and affected by physiological changes. The assumption, that patient heart rate and blook pressue does not change between VE (to detect motion) and DTI scan., or it imposes insignificant effect on spinal cord motion 3. The spinal cord motion is affected by cervical spine length and curvature of the subject. There is no single position technique to standardize the neck curvature as it affects the cord movement. 4. Every manufacturer uses different internal clock to synchronize pulse oximeter measurement and image acquisition. Therefore our technique cannot be directly applied to other manufacturer and need to account for their internal clock time delay. Required resources (the main ones) 1. Agar phantom a. Its most common, validated, phantom material and it can be prepared in laboratory. 2. Moving table for phantom that is MRI compatible a. Requires a MRI compatible actuator to move the phantom. 3. • 5. Child Abuse Is A Social Problem Essay Child abuse is a social problem that continuously produces a wave of concern. The State of New Jersey Department of Children and Families explains that Abuse is the physical, sexual or emotional harm or risk of harm to another child under the age of 18 caused by a parent or other person who acts as a caregiver for the child (2016). The harsh reality of child abuse and its consequences is recognized throughout this essay. The cost of child abuse can be understood through direct and indirect costs. Direct costs describe those of the child welfare system, judicial and law enforcement, health and mental health systems (New Jersey Child Assault Prevention, 2015). Comparatively, indirect costs apply to much more long term problems/a turn of events the child victim and their abuser(s) may have. These costs involve the effects abuse has or may have in regards to education, mental health, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, welfare dependency, domestic violence, homelessness, juvenile delinquency and adult criminality (New Jersey Child Assault Prevention, 2015). It costs a substantial amount of money to deal with child abuse. Moving away from these consequences, it is arguable that children exposed to violence or abuse, if left unaddressed or ignored, are at an increased risk for emotional and behavioral problems in the future. They may not be able to express their feelings safely and as a result, may develop difficulties regulating their emotions (Joyful Heart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Nature And Role Of Law In Democracy The nature and role of law is important to political theory because the use of law raises important questions about oppression versus liberation and morality. Law in a democracy in relation to the citizens that it governs should strive not to oppress, but rather to liberate and assist citizens when in conflict with higher officials or fellow citizens. Laws in a democracy should be held with the intent of safeguarding the public and promoting the common good. John Stuart Mill makes a valid point when he says: The only purpose for which power can rightfully be exercised over any member of a civilized community against his will is to prevent harm to others. In addition to this, there is a fine line between the law and morality, as not every citizen shares the same moral values. Law is able to be more finite, as it has a written set of rules that citizens should strive to follow. However, morality is more subjective, as it weighs the right and wrong in given situations. The rule of law simply states that the law should be the overarching guideline. The rule of law provides a framework that both citizens and government officials should follow. John Locke stated that the rule of law provided protection from every other member of society, as indeed they are from him. The rule of law allows for the right to life, liberty, and property so long as harm is not taken to other citizens. In addition, the rule of law protects individuals from the state and ensures that government is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Khajuraho s Vishvanatha (Lord of the World) Temple built in 1002 CE during the Chandella dynasty consist of four towers each of which extend higher than the other. This temple was dedicated to Shiva (the destroyer god in Hindu), and it was constructed to signify Shiva s mountain home. While he is known as the god of destruction he is also recognized as the regenerative force of the Hindu religion. • 12. The Theory Of Moral Sentiments And The Wealth Of Nations How Adam smith can change your life, at the beginning the author gives you a history of Adam smith and all that he has done. From his books: The theory of moral sentiments and the wealth of nations. How can someone from two hundred and fifty years ago, a Scottish moral philosopher can still be relevant currently in 2016. Why is because of the questions that he asked in his two books above some of which have been through different editions like The Theory of Moral Sentiments. The author of this book Russ Roberts had not even read the book the Theory of Moral Sentiments until his friend Dan Klein at George Mason University suggested him to interview him about it on one of his weekly podcast, EconTalk (Roberts, p.2 3). The first chapter the author is preparing you for what to expect and what Adam smith is like with his sense of writing. I did not what to expect when I started reading this but, Roberts giving you a brief insight into Smith s life and more importantly his death. No journal or diary survived Smith s death which surprised me for what type of impact he had back in the 1700s until now (Roberts, p.7). The author lets you know what is upcoming in the next few chapters and is not giving you too much information too soon. Even though, Adam Smith is the father of economics this book is not exactly about that. With 13 dead and 150 injured tension between Nicolás Maduro and his people is at an all time high (Glusing). In the post Hugo Chavez world not only has Maduro failed to inspire the confidence of his people, but his inability to deal with rising economic woes has only worsened his relationship with his people. Machiavelli in his works The Prince and The Discourses, deals with how a leader should deal, interact, and satisfy his subjects. Thus, Machiavellian lens could be critical to best explain the current state of tension within Venezuela. To do this it is first necessary to explain Machiavelli s method, second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Machiavelli s focus on pragmatism and realism seems to eliminate a worry about ethical concerns. For example, Machiavelli s pragmatism, distinguish(es) between cruelty well used and cruelty abused. (Machiavelli 30). One may argue Machiavelli s distinction smuggles in a level of morality. In reality it is clear that this distinction is focused on the preservation of power in order to allow, their subjects ... to let bygones be bygones (Machiavelli 30). Machiavelli makes no moral distinction between the cruel actions he merely makes a distinction upon what will best allow a ruler to maintain power. In The Discourses the emphasis of good policy being that which creates stability again ignores morality finding that new rulers should remake everything else in the state from scratch to do this they should, make the rich poor and poor rich. (Machiavelli 131). He even gives substance to wicked deeds finding they involve, a certain nobility (Machiavelli 132). This dramatic level of apathy to the right of the individuals or what are good actions demonstrate his emphasis of preservation of stability over morality. The Good Earth is one of these book that show a great deal of lessons learned that are still in use today. In this paper you will see how what people did in the Good Earth is still used today. This paper will talk about 3 main points. First and foremost I will talk about land, then I will talk the concept of greed with money, finally I will end with the concept of change. Today many countries fight for land and have been for a long time. Land is a very important thing because it helps with colonization and It help the country look more superior over other countries. This concept of valuing money and looking down on the poor is still around today. How? An Example are chairs men. A chairman is a person who is the head of a company or an organization. This is a good example because since they have a lot of power they easily look down on people. Many people look down on another because of their flaws. This happens everywhere not only reality but in books as well. Finally onto my third point change in a person s character. In today s society many people s characteristic change throughout the their lifetimes. In the Good Earth Wang Lung s characteristic changed from being a loving poor man to a rich lonely man. Characteristics change in everyone and everything. An example is Demi Lovato because she at first was a shy young lady who soon became an icon for those young ladies who feel sad and vulnerable. • 15. Humanistic Approach Analysis Good evening, Owen. Thank you for your response. I have read a couple of responses, and they are similar, in that they mention that professional educators mix and match approaches to curriculum, more than, perhaps, stick to one flavor. I mentioned in my post that I began as a supporter of the behavioral approach to curriculum. Yet, now, I am full time teacher of record in a prime example of the humanistic approach and I love it. I am an engineer by spirit, so I tend toward the behavior and systems approaches by nature. However, I ve been involved in the International Baccalaureate curriculum for the past 6 years, first as a parent, then as a substitute in the classroom, and currently as teacher of record for Middle School Science. I ve watched my own children mature in the system, and then fail, because of their point of entry. I ve seen other children mature from Kindergarten to Middle School and have noticed the difference between those who started here in Kindergarten and those who came within two years prior to Middle School. • 16. How Did The Berlin Wall Impact The Modern World The Berlin Wall was a barrier that divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989 that completely cut off (by land) West Berlin from surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin until it was opened in November 1989.2 By 1949, Germany had become two separate countries The Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany), run by the Allies, and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), run by the Soviet Union. The wall was made to define West Germany from East Germany, and has impacted the modern world in many different ways. The Berlin Wall was constructed due to the difference in political ideologies between the Soviet Union and the allies. The Soviet Union believed communism was the prime system to run Germany, whilst the Allies preferred capitalism. The Soviet Union came up with their own solution to solve the issue, and before German citizens knew it, the East Berlin construction workers had built the Berlin blockade as directed by the German Democratic Republic (GDR), controlled by the Soviets.1 The Berlin Wall created ... Music can portray emotion that anyone can understand and relate to, transcending any singular tongue. In Sonny s Blues by James Baldwin, and The Weary Blues by Langston Hughes, music is portrayed as being a connection to the happenings of character s lives, a way of channeling and expressing their emotions as something physical. Both of the characters are going through difficult times during their separate works. In Sonny s Blues, the brother of the main character, Sonny, tells his story, from the time they were living together to when they went their separate ways. Sonny is a heroine addict who has recently been released from a detainment center of some sort, some place where he was forced into a sudden and painful withdrawal. Hardy heard news about the death of the young drummer who was from Dorchester in wessex (the region that Hardy most commonly wrote about) The drummers in the war could often be as young as thirteen or fourteen, as they would be dishonest about their age to the recruitment officers. Thermal stability of a protein is an important factor in food systems. Heat is commonly used to cook and/or sterilize a food product for a number of reasons. Heat is used in cooking to denature the proteins present in bacteria to destroy them; however, if certain food proteins are denatured, the food product could lose its functionality. Heating can also have beneficial effects on proteins such as flavor, tenderness and digestibility (Christen and Smith 2000). Protein thermal stability is not fully understood and can be due to a host of factors such as internal folding, hydrogen bonding, electrostatic forces, and calcium affinity (Vogt and Argos 1997). There are many types of proteins that convey thermally stable properties such as malate dehydrogenase, lactate dehydrogenase, ferrodoxin, hydrolase, phosphofructokinase, and others (Vogt and Argos 1997). Mesomorph is an athletically built and muscular structure and aggressive behaviour (Shoemaker 2013, 68). Ectomorph, can be described as thin and delicate and having an introverted personality who are not likely to commit crime (Shoemaker 2013, 68). Furthermore, around the 20th century, phrenology was the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Classicism and Positivism have both positively and negatively impacted on contemporary understandings of criminology and criminal justice practices. Currently, both theories are viewed in combination with each other rather than individually (Fishbein 1990, 27). If considered alone they do not offer a complete assessment of the contributions to criminal behaviour (Fishbein 1990, 27). In the past, biological factors were largely rejected as a result of unscientific findings and the inability to posit rational explanations (Fishbein 1990, 27). The viewpoint by criminologists was either nature (biological) or nurture (sociological, environmental) (Fishbein 1990, 29). Whereas, the viewpoint is now nature plus nurture and findings are now supported by science and posit rational explanations (Fishbein 1990, 29). In relation to the characteristics of criminals, there continues to be criminal stereotypes based on physical and sociological characteristics, especially race and class (Gatti and Verde 2012, 20). In relation to punishment, the 18th century English system agreed with Beccaria s view on punishment as it was said to provide effective deterrence and reflect the status quo (Draper 2000, 183). However, they did not agree with the same methods of punishment, unlike the 20th century (Draper 2000, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Similarities And Differences Between The Giver Movie And... There are many differences between the book and movie version of The Giver. The movie changed many parts of the book, to make the movie more interesting and intense, so that people will be more interested in watching it. One difference is the way that Jonas received the memories from the Giver. Another difference is the relationship between Jonas and Fiona. The final difference is when Jonas flees his community when he wasn t supposed to and succeeded without getting caught. This essay will describe the differences between the book and the movie version of the Giver. The way that Jonas receives the memories in the book is different from the way he receives the memories in the movie. In the book, Jonas had to receive the Giver s memories by laying down on a bed while the Giver rubbed his back to transfer the memories to Jonas, Jonas felt nothing unusual at first. He only felt the light touch of the old man s hands on his back ( Pg 101). However, in the movie, it was different. In the movie Jonas had to sit on a chair in front of the Giver. The Giver would hold Jonas wrists to transfer the memories to him. If the movie had used the method from the book, then we wouldn t be able to see Jonas facial expressions because he would be facing down on the bed. Jonas relationship with the Giver is different from the book to the movie and so is his relationship with Fiona. Jonas and Fiona never really had a strong relationship in the book. However, they did have a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Last is Osteoporosis, which forms part of the endocrine and metabolic diseases. It is a skeletal condition that interferes with the captation of proteins and carbohydrates (Manual). Figure 1. Osteoporosis is a generalized, progressive diminution of bone tissue mass per unit volume, causing skeletal weakness, even though the ratio of mineral to organic elements is unchanged in the remaining morphologically normal bone. Histologically there is a reduction in cortical thickness and in the number and size of the trabeculae of cancellous bone, normal width of the osteoid seams. Bone reabsorption is increased, bone formation appears to be normal but be defective. The major clinical manifestations of osteoporosis are bone fractures. The most common form of metabolic bone disease is the idiopathic osteoporosis in sub adults of both sexes with normal gonadal functions. Post menopausal osteoporosis, of course between 50 70 years of age, and is six times more common in women than men (pathologia). There is a much greater loss of trabecular bone (cancellous) than cortical bone. It is largely responsible for vertebral crush fracture cooles fractures. Senile osteoporosis occurs mainly in individuals older than 70 years of age, is twice as common in women compared to men. It affects both trabecular and cortical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
