Integrating Complexity Science Concepts Into The...
Integrating complexity science concepts into the examination of L.R. s transition process presents
a new angle to study this transition and speculate patient outcome (Geary Schumacher, 2012).
Part of L.S. s self organization of new patterns that have emerged through this transition is his
desire to get his life on track . His delusion of being a veteran and having served in the military is
part of his sense making to explain his current transition. He is using what he knows from his plan
to enlist in the military, prior to the car accident that caused his TBI, to explain what has led him to
this transition, how it happened, and why he is heading to Bridgeview. This self organization is
having a positive reaction and impact on his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this way, he is giving meaning to the reasons for medications and any other schizoaffective
treatments he receives. This is an attempt to find patterns in the events of our life and assign
meaning to them (Geary Schumacher, 2012).
According to Geary Schumacher (2012), emergence cannot be predicted. Therefore, we can only
speculate how the emergence of new patterns of behaviors is going to develop as this transition
unfolds. This transition is a change in environment and autonomy and as he interacts and self
organizes in response to these changes. It is unpredictable to know how his new behaviors are
going to emerge, but the overall speculation is that a positive pattern of behaviors will emerge
based on his fixed delusion of military discharge. This is based on many interactions and
conversations with L.R. while at 1NW and during his discharge. L.R. is experiencing many
complex changes in the transition from 1NW to Bridgeview. Prior to this transition, the
emergence of the types of patterns of behaviors and physical symptoms of this new level of
autonomy were evaluated. It is speculated that this complete contextual change will likely result
in positive changes due availability of support and supplies at Bridgeview listed in Part A. It is
speculated that positive behaviors will emerge due to client centered care at Bridgeview and their
ability to meet him at his level of need. The emergence of the behaviors as he

Mr Nobody Themes
The film Mr. Nobody directed by Jaco Van Dormael is unlike most movies showed in hollywood
today. It is a beautiful film that reflects the postmodernist era by its use of techniques to depict the
life and choices made of the movies protagonist Nemo Nobody. Postmodernism is a cultural
movement that is drifting away from its former art, literature, cinema, and architecture once used in
a modernist era. One of the main themes portrayed in this filmis that of fragmentation.
Fragmentation is constantly shown throughout this film by the anarchy and chaos the director
chose to display. The meaning of fragmentation is being able to pull away information in order to
connect it to a bigger story. In order to understand the film information must be... Show more

Every decision Nemo makes affects his life in one way or another. The film shows us many
pathways Nemo can choose from. But how do you choose a life in which you already know the
outcome? That is what separates this move from the rest. Each life nemo can choose from is
beautiful in its own way. In the film Nemo as an elderly man says Each of these lives is the right
one. Every path is the right path. Everything could have been anything else and it would have
just as much meaning (Mr. Nobody). This line from the film really has an impact of the choices
Nemo is left with. The quote shows that each life is just as meaningful as the other. They all
come with their own positives and negatives. These choices displayed in fragmented form show
the audience the postmodernist way of thinking that no life is worth living more than yours. The
director shows this in the film by Nemo not being able to make a decision of choosing to live with
his mom or dad so he chooses to make his own

Fodor s Functionalism Essay
Fodor s Functionalism
Fodor begins his article on the mind body problem with a review of the current theories of dualism
and materialism. According to dualism, the mind and body are two separate entities with the body
being physical and the mind being nonphysical. If this is the case, though, then there can be no
interaction between the two. The mind could not influence anything physical without violating the
laws of physics. The materialist theory, on the other hand, states that the mind is not distinct from
the physical. In fact, supporters of the materialist theory believe that behavior does not have mental
causes. When the materialist theory is split into logical behaviorism and the central state identity
theory, the foundation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Functionalism also states that the output of the system is related to both the input and the internal
status of the system at a given time.
Based on the definition of functionalism, the mental processes of a human are not distinct from the
systemic processes of a machine. Mental processes are defined as an operation on symbols to yield
certain results. Thus, if the same symbols yielded the same results in two separate systems, then the
mental states can be seen as similar, or even identical. Along this vein, consider a computer
programmed with the same reasoning process as a mind. When the input B is entered, the output
depends both upon B and upon the state of the system resulting from the computation of A. If the
computer was programmed with the exact same reasoning process as a mind, then the result would
be the same. Thus, the mental state of the mind would be indistinguishable from the systemic state
of the computer. The computer metaphor upholds the theory of functionalism because the output is
the result of interaction between the input and the current state of the system. The metaphor also
demonstrates the insignificance of the physical state of the system when determining whether two
mental states are alike. Thus, it shows that the processes, rather than the composition, of the system
determine the mental state.
Searle disagrees with the view that the physical composition of the system does not influence the
mental state of the

Islamic Marriage Customs Vary, Depending On Country Of...
Islamic marriage customs vary, depending on country of origin and government regulations,
Muslim men and women around the world are guided by Islamic laws and practices specified in
the Quran. According to the teachings of the Quran, a married Muslim couple is associated with
clothing. Within this context, both husband and wife are each other s protector and comforter,
just as real garments show and conceal the body of human beings. Thus, they are meant for one
another A legal contract In Islam, a person should be properly married, and this should include
both the religious ceremony and the legal requirements of the law of the land. However, Muslims
who marry without legal registration in the United Kingdom are putting their womenfolk at some
risk, and their children are not legitimate in the eyes of the UK law and no Muslim should wish to
put his wife and children in this difficult position. In Islam, marriages are not considered to be
made in heaven between soul mates destined for each other; they are not sacraments. They are
social contracts which bring rights and obligations to both parties, and can only be successful when
these are mutually respected and cherished. Polygyny At the time of the revelation of the Qur an it
was normal procedure for men to have more than one wife, up to the limits of their ability to

Communication and Leadership in Health Care Essay
Introduction This paper employs multiple research techniques and sources to give a holistic analyst
of the partnerships developed with people from different division of a healthcare organization. I

integration, and use of PHR is the lack of communication and understanding between healthcare

To locate my resources for this essay I used the EBSCOhost database and the Nursing Reference

If the FIT comes back positive the client is then offered further diagnostic testing, which is usually
a colonoscopy (MOH, 2017). The FIT is particularly important for the detection of colorectal
cancer as 80% of patients with this test positive ( Fecal occult blood tests , 2016). A colonoscopy
involves a doctor inserting a flexible scope into the anus, to visualise the interior walls of the
rectum and colon ( Colonoscopy, assisting , 2016). During the colonoscopy, the doctor is able to
remove any polyps in the colonic or rectal wall and/or take samples as required ( Colonoscopy,
assisting , 2016; MOH, 2017). Any samples that are taken are sent to the laboratory where a
diagnosis can be made, usually within a period of two weeks (Davis at al., 2016, p.305).
Boswell, Cannon and Miller (2013) describe holistic nursing care as care which encompasses the
whole person: the physical, spiritual, family and mental health (p.303). In practice, I found it
useful to integrate the Te Whare Tapa Wha health model. Although this model was more
specifically created for Maori clients I discovered that it can be incorporated into the care for
everyone. The Te Whare Tapa Wha model involves caring for the whole patient, tending to all
aspects of their health; suggesting

Leon Trotsky, a Leader of the Bolshevik Revolution and...
Most historians agree that throughout his political career Trotsky displayed various talents and
abilities. However, these skills alone were not enough to enable him to become the supreme
leader of the USSR. In the context of the workings of the Bolshevik party to rise to the highest
office of the politburo required certain traits and qualities as well as an ability to utilise the party
machine and exploit its members talents, traits and qualities Trotsky clearly lacked. For these
reasons the statement is highly accurate because in spite of his ability, Trotsky s failure to rise to
the highest office in the land was a consequence of his arrogance, political naivety and inability to
turn success into political capital.
This statement is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the many roles that Trotsky undertook in his political career, notably Commissar
for War prove that Trotsky was most definitely the most able of men . According to Service,
Trotsky as Commissar for War surprised everyone with his organisational capacity and
ruthlessness as he transformed the Red Army into a fighting force . During his role as
commissar Trotsky was able to increase the size of the Red army to three million, introduced
conscription, maintained obedience and discipline by enforcing the oath of the red warrior and
the death penalty for deserters and used ex Tsarist officers to assist in the organisation of the army.
Trotsky s ability to successfully transform the Red Army and the significant role he played in Civil
War are largely the reason for the Bolshevik victory and further highlight that Trotsky was the most
able of men .
However, despite his ability Trotsky was not able to rise to the highest office in the Land, as he
lack political motivation, the personality traits required and a utilisation of the party apparatus.
Trotsky despite his talents and status as a communist leader was disliked by his peers. His
arrogance, condescension and perceived intellectual superiority alienated many of members of the
politburo. If in an address that bored Trotsky he was known to have openly read a novel instead.
Lenin himself raised concerns regarding the assured arrogance of Trotsky in his last testament
writing that he is perhaps the most capable

Edgar Allen Poe s, The Tell Tale Heart, takes place in the old man s house. John Doe kills an old
man because he fears the old man s vulture eyes. He plots to kill him, and succeeds. When the
police comes, John Doe felt guilty and confessed his murder. In his mind, he hears a heartbeat, in
which the reader thinks it is the old man s.Little does the reader know that John Doedoes not
actually hear the Old man s heartbeat, but he thinks that the cops can hear it too, so he tries to
cover it up. Soon it gets louder and louder in John Doe s head from his guilt, and finally he
shouts, Yes! Yes, I killed him. Pull up the boards and you shall see! I killed him. But why does his
heart not stop beating?! Why does it not stop!? Finally the reader knows that it was John Doe s
guilt that was pressuring him to confess, knowing that the cops never heard the heartbeat. The
theme of this story is that guilt will pressure your conscienceto confess.
First off, John Doe states, True, nervous, very very dreadfully nervous, I had been and I am mad.
Just like everyone, people tend to get an instinct when they just had committed crime. In the books,
he confesses, saying that he had done it. John Doe was driven by the old man s vulture eyes, to kill
him. In the story, John doe states that, His eye was like the eye of a

Indicate conclusions that can be drawn based on the trend: The graphs below illustrate the stock
prices of each company based on the timeline. By consulting the above graphs and charts it can
be concluded that Pepsi has been a strong competitor to Coke and that throughout history they
have been performing at comparable rates. Each has a similar background and customer base,
but there are some differences between the two companies and their individual performance
overall. It is clear that Pepsi holds a major stake in the market and is somewhat ahead of Coca
Cola in market share and productivity. Although both companies appear to be competing neck

of both. Coke is wildly popular and is considered an American institution, but many seek
different tastes and this is where Pepsi has been taking some of the market share as some
consumers opt for Pepsi as their choice of beverage. Both companies represented in the graphs
shown previously are subject to the volatile market changes and increasing prices in commodities
and other raw ingredients that each company relies on for their production of their products. As
seen in the chart Pepsi is subject to the same market changes as Coke, but performance appears to
steady and less erratic in its market fluctuations. Since Pepsi is considered to be less volatile

Comparing Checks And Balances Of The Executive And A Prime...
President is elected by the voters, while the head of state in a parliament generally Prime
Minister is elected by the legislature. The difference seems small, but it ends up making a world
of difference. The US prides itself on separation of powers the legislature makes the laws, and the
executive executes them. They provide checks and balances on each other, ensuring that neither
one gets too powerful. Either one can work, though. There are many countries with parliaments,
and the executive doesn t run away with power. The parliament itself is still subject to the checks
of the voters: voters unhappy with the performance of the executive will take it out on the
executive s party. That even gives an opportunity for a third party to arise, for voters who don t
want to switch to the opposite party. The next executive is chosen in the parliament based on
negotiations between the third party and the two major parties. That s happening in the UK right
now, where the Liberal Democratic party is in an unlikely coalition with the Conservative party,
after voters abandoned an unpopular Labor Party. The LibDems are still much smaller, but very
potent as kingmakers. (And about to be hammered themselves, next time it comes around.)... Show

Why Did Stalin Was Responsible For The Cold War
Between 1945 and 1991 there was a lengthy struggle of ideologies between the United States and
the Soviet Union, which was fuelled in the aftermath of the surrender of Hitler s Germany. America
followed a political system of democracy, hence were capitalist, and in contrast the USSR was a
communist state meaning they were anti liberal. Both countries tried to strengthen themselves and
weaken the other side, without becoming involved in a hot war. They competed for influence in the
world and wanted to advance their economic interests. Both countries aided to the start of the Cold
Warhowever, Joseph Stalin s actions lead him to be mainly responsible, rather than Harry S.
Truman.
Stalin s unwillingness to withdraw his forces from most parts of Eastern Europe increased
hostilities between the USSR and the United States. Unlike Roosevelt, Truman had a deep distrust
of Stalin and was pessimistic about the success of any negotiations with the Soviet Union at the
Potsdam Conference. Therefore when Stalin refused to withdraw his forces Truman knew he could
do very little to prevent Soviet troops from occupying most of the land, such as Finland, Estonia,
Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, much of Germany including Berlin, and parts of Austria including
Vienna. This increased the tension between both countries, resulting in the USSR to be blamed for

Algeria, the largest country in Africa, is home to 39 million people. The native language is
Arabic and the common currency is dinar. From 2010 to 2015 the GDP (Gross Domestic Product)
has increased from $4,349.00 to $5,836.00, with a population density of 16 inhabitants per square

United States having there republic government led by President Abdelmalek Sellal.
Algeria s history of producing gas isn t extremely long, but it is very productive and beneficial
for its economy and the economy of Africa, as well as Europe. Covering an area of around 2,382

Country and the largest country in Africa. It is situated in the north of the continent, and shares
borders with Morocco, the Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Libya and Tunisia. To the
north is the Mediterranean Sea. Algeria was colonized by France as far back as 1830 under the
reign of Charles X. Algeria gained political independence in 1962, just four years after it began to
produce natural gas. Their colonial struggle lasted eight years and cost the lives of one million
Algerians, out of a population of nine million Arabs and Berbers. (A berber is a group of people in

What Led Up To The 1917 Russian Revolution

Throughout history there have been many revolutions between the population of a country and its
government. People always want change, usually in the directions of freedom, peace and equality
and in the lead up to the 1917 Russian revolution; there were a variety of social, political and
economic situations that all played their part.
In the years leading up to the revolution, Russia had been involved in a series of wars. The

had been defeated in all except the war with Turkey and its government and economy had the scars
to prove it. A severe lack of food and poor living conditions amongst the peasant population led...

Petersburg was submitted to Nicholas II. A large group had formed in front of his palace and
claimed that they would let themselves be shot if the demands of the people were not met, saying,
We do not regret this sacrifice, we are glad to make it. Among the demands were: The immediate
release of all who have suffered for religious, political, and peasant disorders. Universal education
financed by the state. Equality for everyone. The separation of church and state. Immediate freedom
for consumers and trade unions. And the introduction of a minimum wage. It was the large number
of these groups and the constant in fighting amongst them that caused their strikes and protests to
overthrow the Tsar to fail.
The Tsar and his elite began to understand that change was required before they lost complete

Relationship Between Medical Service Consumption And...
2Literature Review 2.1 Insurance demand
Economists have long explored the relationship between medical service consumption and health
insurance demand, and found that they are dependent upon each other (DING Jihong, ZHU
Minglai, 2007). The relationship between the demand of health insurance and the demand of health
care of a nation has a strong relationship between, the reason lies behind the fact that health
insurance is not bought by a customer in order to obtain a good, but as a mean of been able to
pay health related services in the future (Feldstein, 1973). Having health insurance also affects
the demand of health care, specifically when looking at people that could use health care services
based on the fact that they re assured and use the health care as a prepaid service. Since health
insurance twists the real price that people pay to utilize health care, there is a great possibility for
a moral hazard (Arrow, 1963; Manning et al., 1987).
Mark V. Pauly (2007) observed that health insurance often induces moral hazard which makes it
harder for companies or the government to estimate the real coverage that a population would
require. Thus, this problems weakens the entrance to the market not only of governmental
institutions that would like to take over the health insurance, but also companies that would try to
explore the insurance market of a region. John A. Nyman s (2003), presents a different point of
view about how moral hazard affects the consumption of

Copyright Infringement is Immoral
The average person wouldn t even consider walking into a music store and stealing a CD,
however, with today s technology getting music without paying for it is so easy it barely seems
illegal. Copyright infringement is a huge ethical issue going on right now. From downloading
movies and music from peer to peer programs as well as various websites to being able to stream
a movie at the click of a button without a copy ever being saved on the computer it s so simple,
anyone could get addicted to doing it. For some of these reasons many argue that copyright
infringement is a moral thing to do, but on the other hand others believe it is just as immoral as
stealing. When comparing and contrasting reasons for why copyright infringement is moral and
why it is immoral I think when it comes down to it it is stealing and would obviously be immoral.
Before comparing the moralityof copyright infringement it needs to be understood what copyright
infringement is and how it is done. Coming directly from the United States Copyright Office.
Copyright infringement is when a copyrighted work is reproduced, distributed, performed, publicly
displayed, or made into a derivative work without the permission of the copyright owner (par 5). It s
pretty obvious that downloading copyrighted music from a website for free without owners
permission is copyright infringement, but there are other things that also constitute as infringement
that many people haven t even considered. For example:

The Dating Services Industry provides a product that generated $320m in 2015, has historically
grown at a 5 year CAGR of 5.0%, and is forecast to grow 3.9% YoY into 2020. I believe this trend
is justified as a growing number of consumers begin to turn to the internet to look for love. Key
Drivers for growth include the proliferation of broadband internet connections, the exponential
increase the number of mobile devices, increased use of the internet, increasing GDP Per Capita
(2.2% CAGR), and a slowing marriage rate indicating a high proportion of single adults. According

As mentioned above, the competitive threat of rivals to incumbent eHarmony in the Dating

InterActiveCorp, eHarmony s largest competitor is a global conglomerate this creates a majority of

Sonnet 6 Analysis
Aj Giosa Mr. Foley Sonnet 6 Explication 26 November 2017 Sonnet 6 is notable for the
ingenious multiplying of conceits and especially for the concluding pun on a legal will in the
final couplet: Be not self willed, for thou art much too fair / To be death s conquest and make
worms thine heir. Here, as earlier in the sonnet, the poet juxtaposes the themes of narcissism and
death, as well as procreation. Self willed echoes line 4 s self killed, and the worms that destroy
the young man s dead body will be his only heirs should he die without begetting a child which
shows the theme of death. The whole sonnet is about trying to persuade the man to have a baby
hence the theme if procreation. And lastly, the man is being selfish in wanting to die without
passing on his beauty. The sonnet continues from sonnet 5 and is telling a young man to not let
his wintery old age destroy his summer beauty. Meaning he should have children to pass down

Linkert Scale Survey
Likert survey scale was invented by Rensis Likert, who was first to apply this approach in
surveys to check attitudes. The main advantage of his method is that it requires less time to
develop and is easier to adopt than the previously used survey methods. Moreover, the Linkert s
approach does not require the use of negative wording points, which is why Linkert scalesurvey has
been used so much.
Likert Scaling is a undimensional scaling method. As in all scaling methods, the first step is to
define what it is you are trying to measure. (Trochim, 2006)
Questionnaire items are simple statements that the subject should be evaluated based on their
personal views. Commonly used five gradations, such as:
1.Strongly disagree
2.Disagree
3.Neither agree or disagree
4.Agree
5.Totally agree.
Statements wordings that are selected depend on the objectives of the researcher, the wording of
the response may also vary, for example from frequent to never go out or always buy never buy.
The number of grades can also be different (from three to nine). Selection of questions in the
survey scale compiled into a pilot study. To do this, create an initial list of questions, which are
offered to pilot survey takers from the chosen group of representatives (team members), they will
test each question for appropriateness. Approvals must be consistent from each pilot test survey
taker. Some questions will have to be taken off from the survey before the final survey is done.

Gilgamesh Categories
As we look back in time, ages ago, humans had organized ways of living. Scientist have found
that it is easiest to classify their body into seven categories. These categories consist of urban
focus, new political and military structures, new social structure based on economic power, the
development of more complexity in a material sense, a distinct religious structure, the
development of writing, and new and significant artistic and intellectual activity. Each of these
categories played a key role in the effectiveness in which their societies were ran. We have been
able to find evidence from as far back as 250,000 years ago. In the beginning the societies that
developed up in Mesopotamia were agriculturally centered. They were not very populated. At first
we relied primarily on our own skills of hunting animals for their meet and picking berries and
plants along the way. Which forced the Hunter Gatherers from the Paleolithic Age to continually be
on the move. Eventually they learned the glory of cultivating their own crops and growing the food

By taking a reed stylus they would create dents in clay. We can still see their writing today
because the clay was able to preserve the work. They kept records on the clay, but eventually

Noah building his boat to save the selected animal and people fromt the Great Flood. In the Epic
of Gilgamesh their god saw how uproared the people were and decided on creating a mass flood
to wipe most life out. As in the bible, the man was told to build a boat and wait out the storm.
Birds were used as messengers to let them know when the storm was over. The Epic of GIlgamesh

Motives for Iraq War through Realism and Neo-Conservatism...
The invasion on Iraq by the United States in 2003 has become the biggest, lengthiest, and most
expensive use of armed force since the Vietnam War. It is the first major post Cold War U.S.
military action taken unilaterally, without an international coalition, and the first U.S. experience as
an occupying power in a Middle Eastern country. Although the invasion decision was distinctive
(U.S. military connection in an Arab or Muslim country), the argument here is that the Iraqi
invasion deals with motives related to natural security, power, and resources. Both realism and neo
conservatism claim to capture the motives behind the war, but only through a comprehensive
comparison of the two can a synthesis be achieved. On March 20th, 2003, the... Show more content

Realism argues that states are inherently self interested, have an innate desire to dominate others,
and that states are not likely to resolve their differences peacefully (Walt 31). Rational statesmen,
as conceived by Morgantheau, continuously embarked on a struggle to accumulate more and
more power. Power was an end in itself as only wars came out of the power struggle (Waltz 40).
Realism helps to explain qualities of foreign policy that remain consistent over time. From a realist
standpoint, verdicts by governments to go to war are the product of all states involuntary
participation in eternal quests for power and security due to an international political environment
in which each state fears the actual or potential hostility of other states (Lieberfeld 2). Leaders
logically estimate war s costs and profits in terms of their state s power and security. States
international behavior thus reflects the constraints imposed on their actions by their relative power
position. Even before 2003, the Bush administration had been forthright and explicit about its goal
of global hegemony a power so complete that challenging it becomes nearly inconceivable. Bush s
speech at West Point in spring 2002 declared,

My Antonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, And Roselily By Willa Cather
The most poignant struggle within female literature is, almost always, the relationship that women
have with power. It presents itself in many forms through a relationship, within the workplace, or
even self imposed, women are always juxtaposed against the structure of power for one reason or
another. However, despite the uplifting narrative development that generally occurs within these
stories, the concern about powerstruggle is never truly resolved the problem remains. Through My
ГЃntonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, and Roselily , the reader can see that the influence of power and its
negative and toxic consequences proves fatal within class, race, and gender boundaries.
Willa Cather s My ГЃntonia displays the gender focused concern about power within the female
character s life. The narrator, Jim Burden, is immediately introduced to the reader as a man who
sees the world through rose colored glasses. That is, he s got a romantic disposition on life and sees
things the way he wants to see them, rather than the way they actually are. The most complicated
area that concerns Jim, though, is his relationship with ГЃntonia. Throughout the novel, there s a
clear longing for her that Jim seems to exude he never really attempts to kindle a romantic
relationship with her, but she s a highly romanticized figure in his eyes and someone who he holds
very dear. So it s clear, then, that because of this closeness that Jim feels towards ГЃntonia, he
holds her to standards that have significant

Child Neglect Within The United States
Child neglect refers to the continued failure to offer a child with the necessary protection, and
care. Such protection and attention involve the necessities such as food, medical care, clothing, as
well as shelter (Conte 7). In addition, lack of proper supervision for the young children for an
extended duration of time is also child neglect. There are various signs of possible neglect. These
include; inconsistent school attendance, evidence that health care is not being provided for in a
child, or lack of proper hygiene (Conte 9). The child may also appear to be lacking clothes or
poorly nourished.
The issue of child neglect is one of the most current forms of child maltreatment especially in the
United States. According to the National Child Abuseand Neglect Data System, child neglect is
referred to as a kind of maltreatment which relates to the failure of a caregiver to offer the
needed, age appropriate care, despite the fact that the parent may be financially stable to do so
(Conte 13). Neglect in many instances is described by an ongoing pattern that relates to lack of
care and is observed by individuals in close contact with a child. Child neglect can occur in cases
such as a parent or a caregiver emotionally or physically neglecting a child (Conte 17). This issue
has a lengthy history. Many children have been subjected to neglect by their parents or other
adults, for a considerable long period. Children who were under the English common law were

Watershed Management Plan: Portland, Oregon Portland, Oregon is one of the most sustainable
cities in the U.S and is well known for its urban appeal. Various bureaus within the city have
consistently found ways to incorporate sustainability at a time when managing economic pressures
and increased demands for natural resources have otherwise been challenging. It comes as no
surprise then, that efforts in restoring watershed health play a large role in the city s overall

individual management plans do exist, a comprehensive plan has been created to give perspective

Levees were built, wetlands were drained and filled, and waterways were channelized (City of

diminished. There is an urgent need to improve water quality of the Columbia Slough Watershed.
Urban development has resulted in an extensive loss of vegetation and habitat which has
resulted in increased water temperature and decreased capacity to filter pollutants and sediments
from runoff (City of Portland Environmental Services, 2005). The watershed also serves as an
important wildlife corridor, especially for migrating salmon. However, upstream passage of
salmon is prevented due to levees. Johnson Creek Much like the Columbia Slough, the Johnson
Creek Watershed has also been severely altered and urban development has contributed to its poor
health. In the 1930s, a trapezoidal channel in 15 of the 25 stream miles was created to control
flooding (City of Portland Environmental Services, 2005). However, this action did the complete
opposite. Disconnected from its floodplain, stormwater runoff has overwhelmed the confined
stream channel and has flooded 37 times since 1942 (City of Portland Environmental Services,

Modern Anti Cruelty Laws For The United States
The rights of animals have been battled over for generations. Humans began t o domesticate
animals such as dogs, goats, chickens, sheep, and beasts of burden between 10,000 and 18,000
years ago. Many people originally believed that because animals had no souls they also felt no
pain; however, this belief changed as the study of animals increased. The first animal protection
law in western civilization was adopted in 1641; making it illegal to exercise any Tirranny or
Crueltie towards any bruite Creature which are usuallie kept for man s use. (7) In 1789, the English
philosopher, Jeremy Bentham, was the first to state that animals have rights. This concept was
different from the belief that animals felt pain, in his claims animals deserved basic human rights.
This new theory shook the foundation of many peoples belief in what animal rightstruly is. In 1821,
Maine became the first state to adopt modern anti cruelty laws for the U.S.; every other state
eventually passed similar legislation. It still wasn t until the 21st century that lawsuits in the interest
of animals became common. The animal rights movement has become most active in the United
States, Canada, Western Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Animal rights organizations have
been using court systems to protect animals from being used in harmful activities, such as the
agricultural industry and as being research subjects, in the belief that they have the same basic
rights as all humans. Animals have been used

The glittering night in this case is thankfully left alone to ring with all its positive connotations;
without the show spoiling, depressing adjective lonely (6) or its companions. With the
reoccurrence of death, loss and with them, sorrow, Mikage says: I watched the gloomy clouds of
the orange of the sunset spreading across them in the western sky. Soon, the cold night would
descend and fill the hollow in my heart (56). Scenery which in better circumstances would have
been a beautiful sunshine and the coming of a peaceful night, become gloomy and cold. Thus,
the spreading and descen[t] are not really of the sunset, or of the night, but of the sorrow that
comes with loss. With the reappearance of hope in the final cycle, the pathetic fallacy is both a
reflection on the past, as well as an evidence of tenacious hope. Mikage says: The moon shone

Commection In Art Appreciation
In Art Appreciation, chapter two mentions the purposes and functions of art. The functions of art
that are mentioned are: delight, commentary, worship/ritual, commemoration, persuasion, and self
expression. The function that stood out to me was commentary because this function of art
allows the artist to be expressive in his/hers work of art. Commentary is expressions of opinions
rendered as an art form to communicate with the viewers. Viewers also have a connection with
the artists and the artists work. Commentary can be about and event, person, or opinion. The first
art work I chose was a piece done from Diego Rivera in which Diego s interest at the time of the art
work was about Cubism. Diego Rivera s painting, Portrait of Adolfo Maugard, oil on canvas
relates to Commentary as one of the functions of Art. In figure one of the art work, the main
focus of the painting appears to be the person he painted and what surrounds the person. Rivera s
portrait was of Adolfo Best Maugard. Although the focus appears to be Maugard, the painting is
not one point perspective. What surrounds Maugard is also important in the work as the
surrounding expresses perhaps a certain time in which Rivera wanted to show. There is straight
and perpendicular lines that create an overpass where Maugard is standing. Figure one Diego uses
modern colors like: red, orange, yellow, green, and blue/gray. The geometric shapes for the the

The Texas Railroad Commission And The American Economy Essay
The Texas Railroad Commission What does one think about when they hear the words Texas
Railroad Commission? Many things may come to mind but it s really only two things and those
are natural gas and oil. Which happened to be one of Texas biggest assets year round. It is one
of the largest bodies in all of the country which gives it such a large influence on the supply and
prices of oil in the country. When the commission first came about its original purpose was to
oversee the railroads. When James Hogg lead the Populist style resentment for the railroads he won
his election in 1890 and became governor mainly based on the fact that, he had promised to have
the railroads regulated. The Texas Railroad Commission evolved from its founding in 1891 to a
multi divisional regulatory commission that oversaw not only railroads but also a number of other
industries central to the modern American economy: petroleumproduction, natural gasutilities, and
motor carriers. (Childs, 2005) The state simultaneously amended the constitution to allow such a
body. With this being established it gave jurisdiction over the operation of railroads, rates, wharves,
terminals and express companies. Governor Hogg s first appointments were John H. Reagan
(chairman), Judge William Pinckney McLean, and Lafayette L. Foster. In 1894 the legislature made
the agency elective, the three commissioners henceforth serving six year, overlapping terms in
Austin. (Prindle, 1991) Despite the occasional

Myth Of Meritocracy
The Myth of Meritocracy: Corruption in the Media and America s Education System
Two hundred and fifty years ago, America was formed as a classless society, a meritocracy based
on initiative, effort, and perseverance (Rocca 2). It was the land of equal opportunity, where
power was vested in those individuals who had earned it. Advancement in society was based on
merit, not favoritism. Those were the ideals America was built upon, but that is no longer the case.
Diana Kendall s essay Framing Class, Vicarious Living and Conspicuous Consumption and Jean
Anyon s study From Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work analyze two areas of society
that foster inequality and validate the myth of meritocracy: our class system and education system.
Anyon s essay describes the different teaching methods in fifth grade classrooms located in varying
socioeconomic communities. Through her research, she points out that students in working class
schools are treated much worse than those in affluent, elite classrooms, supporting the claim that
opportunity is not distributed fairly in our public education system. Kendall s essay investigates
another area where meritocracy should be but no longer is at work. She places blame on the media
for the growing gap between upper and lower class Americans. She analyzes the way the media
shapes our everyday lives and taints our view of class and social inequality. While both essays use
logos to build their arguments and strengthen their ethos, Kendall takes a more informal tone in her
essay and more heavily utilizes pathos. Although, rarely, does she blatantly bad mouth the media,
Kendall has a more opinionated thesis littered with negative undertones about the media s influence
within society. Anyon s summary of the study she conducted is purely qualitative data that she
presents in an unbiased manner. Although she still makes an argument, there is little to no personal
opinion about the issue. Instead, she chooses to build her ethos through clear and logical data,
allowing room for the reader to really form their own opinion about the matter and potentially
investigate it further. Framing Class, Vicarious Living and Conspicuous Consumption analyzes the
influential role the

The rat was laid face down on the tray and immediately we were able to distinguish whether it

testes. After Mr.Cantrell gave us advice on how to successfully skin the rat, we began our
dissection. Before we began to cut down the rat, we had to break both of the rats arms and legs
in order to pin it down onto the tray. After doing this and pinning the rat down, we were able to
begin. Caitlin picked up the scalpel and began to cut vertically down the rats stomach. We had to
do this operation very slowly and delicately, otherwise we would cut through the muscle. After
finishing cutting it vertically, we cut across both arms and legs. By then, we were able to peel the
skin back and pin it onto the tray. We weren t able to see the organsyet, therefore we had to cut

to pour out which was nauseating yet interesting. We decided to take both the rat and tray over to

doing this, we went back to

Reflection On The Mathematics Class
One night last month I had trouble falling asleep. The night was cool but it was hot inside my
house. So I went for a walk to try to sort out the things that plagued my mind. I was thinking
about the mathematics class and how to apply the things I was learning to my life. After a few
minutes of walking, I noticed that I had arrived in downtown Colorado Springs. It was very
strange because I did not live near downtown. I was standing in the middle of Tejon Street,
facing north. The buildings on either side of the street were dark as far as I could see. The street
lamp cast an eerie glow across the darkened landscape. A light fog rolled in and the feeble light
that shone from the street lamps grew hazy. The wind blew in gusts of regular increment.
Somewhere in the distance I heard singing. The voice that sang echoed through the night in sad,
hollow desperation. I could not hear the words, but the tune sounded familiar. On the corner closest
to me, three scruffy little dogs appeared. They looked at me, sat down and began to howl. The
singing from the distance grew louder. Through the fog I saw something walkingtowards me. There
were several of them. As they drew nearer, I realized they were numbers. Numbers with legs, arms,
faces. I saw the numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, and 8. They were singing the same thing over and over. One is
the loneliest number. One is the loneliest number. The howling dogs added drama and sadness to

paradoxes he attempts to establish that motion is impossible. Here he describes three different

Zeno s Dichotomy paradox and to see if it properly defends itself against some of the main
challenges that have been raised against it, which I believe Zeno has managed to do. I will

Mathematics has greatly advanced since the time of Zeno and Aristotle and this has brought to light
another way to counter Zeno s paradoxes. With the creation of calculus, Zeno s paradox has been
more or less resolved. The calculus solution to this paradox considers the infinite sequence of ВЅ,
Вј, 1/8, ..., 1/2^n, which is an infinite geometric sequence. Geometric sequences have a formula of
∑_(n=1)^в€
ћв–’гЂ–(гЂ– 1/2гЂ—^i )гЂ—=1 were the number of half steps are balanced out by
the increasingly short amount of time needed to journey through all those distances. However,
this is a convergence of an infinite series, which means that the sum of this can be approximated
very closely to one if you add up enough terms. This mathematical explanation seemed to suffice
for a lot of people, since the sum of all of those terms can be approximated closely enough to a
doable number to justify motion being an actual thing. However, if we take a closer look at Zeno s
paradox, the problem was not that the runner wouldn t get close to the final point, point B. The
problem was that the runner would never actually manage to reach that final point because no
matter how small the distance between the runner and the final point, the distance can still be
divisible by half and therefore there would never be a final point were the runner would
confidentially reach point B. Because the calculus equation can only approximate very closely to
the final point, but never the actual point, this solution is still not the correct

A Study On Growth Mindset Essay
Growth Mindset
Throughout my life I never struggled with having a growth mindset in terms of what I wanted
to do when I grew up. I spent a very large amount of time soaking in all the information I could
about certain professions. That included spent time with cousins and friends who were
engineers, interning at my father s law firm, working for my uncle s electric company, and
being a camp counselor with young children. After a lot of time and a lot of jobs, I still never
found that passion that I was looking for. This could be what they mean when they say someone
is burned out . By the time I began working for my football coach Kevon Bagot (we just called
him KB) who was a personal trainer in the offseason, I had given no thought into being in the
fitness industry, nor did I even think about it. However, it turned out to be my biggest passion and
I learned more than I had in my entire life. While a growth mindset could help one significantly in
terms of academics, I found it to be most useful to learn about myself.
A growth mindset tends to be evident when it is applied to people s passions. Some people find their
passion when they are in elementary school, others do not find them until after they are retired. I
found my own passion going into my junior year in high school. I had become burned out searching
for what I wanted to do with my life in terms of a career. I had spent the previous summer
interning for my offensive line coach KB, who was a personal trainer in

Squaws And Nobel Maidens
American Indians have been stereotyped in different forms of media for entertainment purposes for
centuries. The male stereotypes, such as the Nobel Savage, are widely known in literature.
American Indian women have also fallen victim to their own set of stereotypes. Two common labels
regarding American Indian women are Squaws, and Nobel Maidens. European Americans have
done their best to pigeonhole American Indians into these stereotypes, however, American Indian
women are more complex than that. History dictates that these women had many roles in their
respective tribes to include prominent positions.
Since Europeans first arrived in the Americas in the late 1400s, they viewed American Indian
relationships through their own cultural biases. Women were observed working alongside men,
each contributing to the good of the tribe. Through the lens of cultural bias, Europeans
immediately labeled these women as slaves, who were no better than animals. The early settlers
failed to recognize that women were seen as equal to their male counterparts. Each sex had their
own set of tasks, but all tasks were valued without one out weighing another (Lajimodiere, 2013).
The slave stereotype continued to be perpetuated for centuries and became synonymous with the
term Squaw. It infected the way American Indian women were treated by white men not only in
the media, but in real life as well. In the media the Indian Squaw was routinely portrayed as a
household servant, or a hyper

1984 Vs Present Day Analysis
All throughout the world of George Orwell s 1984, Winston is constantly being watched through
the telescreens, and when it was believed that he is not being stalked, microphones are hidden that
catch every word. While in the present day, there is nothing that extreme, the government keeps an
eye on everything that is done. Many things are similar such as video surveillance, and
communication. These two concepts play huge roles in both the fictional world of 1984 and the
present day.
Video surveillance is highly prevalent in the world of 1984. Winston is constantly being watched
everywhere he goes; telescreens are always on and observing all that is within view. This is similar
to most department stores today with cameras meant to keep the ... Show more content on

By taking ordinary words and giving them no meaning, the ability to revolt is taken away. Were

being conformed to an ever changing younger society. The old days of watching the mailbox and
writing drawn out letters to the people right down the street are long gone. The need to even send

How Did Bobbyby Jones Contribute To Bobby s Life
v Robert Tyre Bobby Jones was a lawyer and infamous amateur golfer. His amazing career
contributed so much to the golf community. He will always be remembered as one of the most
successful amateur golfers ever to compete in both the national and international level. Bobby
was born on March 17, 1902, in Atlanta, Georgia. As an infant many doctors did not believe he
would survive. He suffered from a digestive disorder that he managed to overcome at the age of
five. While most young children were out playing, he stayed home due to his ailments. With the
encouragement from doctors, he began to play golf. They believed this sport would help to
improve his strength. It didn t take long for Jones to develop a love for the sport of golf.

Federal Government During Civil War Essay
America s republican form of representative government was premised upon the idea of three co
equal branches of government: Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. The three branches, in theory,
operate independent of one another and serve as check upon one another. It is this structure of this
government, the founders believed, that would retard any establishment of monarchial government
that the American Revolution was fought upon. However the civil war, and more specifically the
Reconstruction period following it tested these principles to the core. While it may be accurate to
characterize governmental struggles that defined Reconstruction as ones that were inter branch, a
more detailed and nuanced survey reveals it was borne more so out... Show more content on

Not long after the inception of the Articles of Confederation, it became clear that the several states
functioning as independent units would not be able to provide a sufficient defense for the whole
country. Following a constitutional convention, the present day Constitution was devised with a
federal structure with three co equal branches endowed with certain enumerated functions. During
the period from the Revolution to the Civil war, America s branches of government had always
been in constant conflict. However, the period of reconstruction brought this strife to the forefront.
It is inaccurate per se, to characterize this strife as one solely of branches of government
competing for supremacy; rather, it is better characterized as a struggle of competing political
goals. To understand Reconstruction, it is important to understand how differing ideologies
understood the goals of reconstructing this country following the Civil War. This period was
defined by the two party system that we know today: Democrats and Republicans. Following
Reconstruction, the outer reaches of the Republican Party were defined by complete redefinition of
the south. Specifically, many Republicans advocated for ridding the southern aristocracy of their
property as well as their life styles. During this period bills were introduced by Republican
congressman to redistribute the wealth of the southern aristocracy from wealthy slave owner
planters to newly freed slaves.

Classroom Distractions
DISTRACTIONS IN THE CLASSROOM We are in the classroom everyday focusing in our
education targeting to get good grade but we face lot of classroom distractions .We students
have different brain capacities, we think different ,we work different and we have contrasting
opinion .Because we are diverse in many thing there will be lot of classroom distractions .We
can even imagine how it will be in a classroom of all diverse students. Even in the best controlled
classrooms, distractions will surely enter the classroom. The following are the main distractions in
the classroom; using cell phone, student talking and unusual distractions. The first main
distractions in the classroom is using cell phone. Our generation is a generation of
technology.People always keep on talking about how good are we with technology.Almost every
one in the US have cellphones or electronic devices in a hand. We think we cannot live without
cellphones, we think our earth will sink if you don t use cellphones. We are in school to read and
write. All of our teachers work hard every second to make us better and successful in our life. But
we students are always busy with our cellphones in the classroom; texting, tweeting, playing games

Examples Of Good Afternoon By Kenisha
Good Afternoon, Kenisha, I completely understand your perspective, but really how much more
do we have to show and prove the world that we have the best and strong military and #1 in almost
everything? As Natasha mention, America already has the strongest military and defense. In
opinion, we have to see the bigger picture here and be a strong nation by first improving within our
country than helping other countries that simply don t want our military help or even start a war
where there isn t. According to, The Dallas Morning News, Since the Vietnam War, we have
conditioned ourselves to the idea that American military intervention for geopolitical purposes (as
opposed to national defense) is somehow justified to spend more. If Obama already

Peer Review Strengths And Weaknesses
Peer review is more than just reading someone s paper and tell them if it s good or bad. It s
about explaining them what their weaknesses and strengths are. It can also help you as a writer
by giving you ideas of how to put stuff together in your essay. Personally, I believe that I was
really engaged when it came to peer reviewing. I truly appreciated the criticism and honesty of
my peers and I hope that they feel the same way about me. I tried to explain to them what was
wrong with each page step by step and what are some of their weaknesses and strengths.
Reviewing papers can be really hard for multiple reasons. The major one is because I don t like
telling others that they re doing something wrong, or because sometimes I just don t agree with
their point of view, an example of this is the RPP of my peer Jeffrey. Jeffrey believes that
legalizing marijuana would be beneficial to communities and even though I disagree with him I
still manage to give him a good review and gave him some sources that may help his claim.
Although, I find it hard to review someone s paper sometimes, it is way easier ... Show more content

This means that they would not be specific enough, they would just write something to get a grade,
or they would simply turn their peer review late. There is no much I can do when this happens
because I understand that most of us have pretty busy lives so they don t really have time to review
other people s paper. So what I do is wait for professor s King review and make corrections based
on his opinion, or ask one of my friends who like to read and write to review for me. Something
that I would like to say about my experience with peer reviewing in 1302 is that I never felt
insulted by no one which was great. I believe that if I were to get insulted in a peer review I would
have to take it as a different type of review since everyone has a different way to express

Why You Have to Get Outta Compton if You Want To See Compton The movie Straight Outta
Compton was tops at the box office in its opening weekend knocking Mission: Impossible Rogue
Nation from the top spot. Mega site Rotten Tomatoes rates it 89 percent on the Tomatometer with
96 percent of the audience saying they liked it. The film not only gave diversity to the offerings
at theaters across America but was a win for black actors and filmmakers. Strangely, residents of
the namesake city had to Get Out if they wanted to see it. Compton does not have any movie
theaters. According to Manuel Pastor, professor of sociology at the University of Southern
California, It s a low income area, it s been heavily disinvested in. When you live in a community
that doesn t have that kind of retail, it s a sign that the community is devalued. Movie complex

movie theater and have an additional 30 percent of space for retail. Dr. Dre is also using money
from royalties generated by his new album to build an arts and entertainment center for children.
Trina Witherspoon, a resident of Compton was interviewed by KCAL 9. She said that a theater
and retail complex was important so we can bring revenues to our own city instead of taking them
to some other city. Ford was quick to point out that things are still in the planning stages and it
takes time to work out all of the numbers and logistics. The wait for an entertainment district has
already been a long one, and while there are plans to improve the economy of the city, things are
not going to happen

  • 2. Integrating Complexity Science Concepts Into The... Integrating complexity science concepts into the examination of L.R. s transition process presents a new angle to study this transition and speculate patient outcome (Geary Schumacher, 2012). Part of L.S. s self organization of new patterns that have emerged through this transition is his desire to get his life on track . His delusion of being a veteran and having served in the military is part of his sense making to explain his current transition. He is using what he knows from his plan to enlist in the military, prior to the car accident that caused his TBI, to explain what has led him to this transition, how it happened, and why he is heading to Bridgeview. This self organization is having a positive reaction and impact on his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this way, he is giving meaning to the reasons for medications and any other schizoaffective treatments he receives. This is an attempt to find patterns in the events of our life and assign meaning to them (Geary Schumacher, 2012). According to Geary Schumacher (2012), emergence cannot be predicted. Therefore, we can only speculate how the emergence of new patterns of behaviors is going to develop as this transition unfolds. This transition is a change in environment and autonomy and as he interacts and self organizes in response to these changes. It is unpredictable to know how his new behaviors are going to emerge, but the overall speculation is that a positive pattern of behaviors will emerge based on his fixed delusion of military discharge. This is based on many interactions and conversations with L.R. while at 1NW and during his discharge. L.R. is experiencing many complex changes in the transition from 1NW to Bridgeview. Prior to this transition, the emergence of the types of patterns of behaviors and physical symptoms of this new level of autonomy were evaluated. It is speculated that this complete contextual change will likely result in positive changes due availability of support and supplies at Bridgeview listed in Part A. It is speculated that positive behaviors will emerge due to client centered care at Bridgeview and their ability to meet him at his level of need. The emergence of the behaviors as he ... • 3. Mr Nobody Themes The film Mr. Nobody directed by Jaco Van Dormael is unlike most movies showed in hollywood today. It is a beautiful film that reflects the postmodernist era by its use of techniques to depict the life and choices made of the movies protagonist Nemo Nobody. Postmodernism is a cultural movement that is drifting away from its former art, literature, cinema, and architecture once used in a modernist era. One of the main themes portrayed in this filmis that of fragmentation. Fragmentation is constantly shown throughout this film by the anarchy and chaos the director chose to display. The meaning of fragmentation is being able to pull away information in order to connect it to a bigger story. In order to understand the film information must be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every decision Nemo makes affects his life in one way or another. The film shows us many pathways Nemo can choose from. But how do you choose a life in which you already know the outcome? That is what separates this move from the rest. Each life nemo can choose from is beautiful in its own way. In the film Nemo as an elderly man says Each of these lives is the right one. Every path is the right path. Everything could have been anything else and it would have just as much meaning (Mr. Nobody). This line from the film really has an impact of the choices Nemo is left with. The quote shows that each life is just as meaningful as the other. They all come with their own positives and negatives. These choices displayed in fragmented form show the audience the postmodernist way of thinking that no life is worth living more than yours. The director shows this in the film by Nemo not being able to make a decision of choosing to live with his mom or dad so he chooses to make his own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Fodor s Functionalism Essay Fodor s Functionalism Fodor begins his article on the mind body problem with a review of the current theories of dualism and materialism. According to dualism, the mind and body are two separate entities with the body being physical and the mind being nonphysical. If this is the case, though, then there can be no interaction between the two. The mind could not influence anything physical without violating the laws of physics. The materialist theory, on the other hand, states that the mind is not distinct from the physical. In fact, supporters of the materialist theory believe that behavior does not have mental causes. When the materialist theory is split into logical behaviorism and the central state identity theory, the foundation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Functionalism also states that the output of the system is related to both the input and the internal status of the system at a given time. Based on the definition of functionalism, the mental processes of a human are not distinct from the systemic processes of a machine. Mental processes are defined as an operation on symbols to yield certain results. Thus, if the same symbols yielded the same results in two separate systems, then the mental states can be seen as similar, or even identical. Along this vein, consider a computer programmed with the same reasoning process as a mind. When the input B is entered, the output depends both upon B and upon the state of the system resulting from the computation of A. If the computer was programmed with the exact same reasoning process as a mind, then the result would be the same. Thus, the mental state of the mind would be indistinguishable from the systemic state of the computer. The computer metaphor upholds the theory of functionalism because the output is the result of interaction between the input and the current state of the system. The metaphor also demonstrates the insignificance of the physical state of the system when determining whether two mental states are alike. Thus, it shows that the processes, rather than the composition, of the system determine the mental state. Searle disagrees with the view that the physical composition of the system does not influence the mental state of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Islamic Marriage Customs Vary, Depending On Country Of... Islamic marriage customs vary, depending on country of origin and government regulations, Muslim men and women around the world are guided by Islamic laws and practices specified in the Quran. According to the teachings of the Quran, a married Muslim couple is associated with clothing. Within this context, both husband and wife are each other s protector and comforter, just as real garments show and conceal the body of human beings. Thus, they are meant for one another A legal contract In Islam, a person should be properly married, and this should include both the religious ceremony and the legal requirements of the law of the land. However, Muslims who marry without legal registration in the United Kingdom are putting their womenfolk at some risk, and their children are not legitimate in the eyes of the UK law and no Muslim should wish to put his wife and children in this difficult position. In Islam, marriages are not considered to be made in heaven between soul mates destined for each other; they are not sacraments. They are social contracts which bring rights and obligations to both parties, and can only be successful when these are mutually respected and cherished. Polygyny At the time of the revelation of the Qur an it was normal procedure for men to have more than one wife, up to the limits of their ability to support them. Also, powerful and wealthy women also had marital arrangements with more than one partner. One difference between Islam and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If the FIT comes back positive the client is then offered further diagnostic testing, which is usually a colonoscopy (MOH, 2017). The FIT is particularly important for the detection of colorectal cancer as 80% of patients with this test positive ( Fecal occult blood tests , 2016). A colonoscopy involves a doctor inserting a flexible scope into the anus, to visualise the interior walls of the rectum and colon ( Colonoscopy, assisting , 2016). During the colonoscopy, the doctor is able to remove any polyps in the colonic or rectal wall and/or take samples as required ( Colonoscopy, assisting , 2016; MOH, 2017). Any samples that are taken are sent to the laboratory where a diagnosis can be made, usually within a period of two weeks (Davis at al., 2016, p.305). Boswell, Cannon and Miller (2013) describe holistic nursing care as care which encompasses the whole person: the physical, spiritual, family and mental health (p.303). • 8. Leon Trotsky, a Leader of the Bolshevik Revolution and... Most historians agree that throughout his political career Trotsky displayed various talents and abilities. However, these skills alone were not enough to enable him to become the supreme leader of the USSR. In the context of the workings of the Bolshevik party to rise to the highest office of the politburo required certain traits and qualities as well as an ability to utilise the party machine and exploit its members talents, traits and qualities Trotsky clearly lacked. For these reasons the statement is highly accurate because in spite of his ability, Trotsky s failure to rise to the highest office in the land was a consequence of his arrogance, political naivety and inability to turn success into political capital. This statement is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the many roles that Trotsky undertook in his political career, notably Commissar for War prove that Trotsky was most definitely the most able of men . According to Service, Trotsky as Commissar for War surprised everyone with his organisational capacity and ruthlessness as he transformed the Red Army into a fighting force . During his role as commissar Trotsky was able to increase the size of the Red army to three million, introduced conscription, maintained obedience and discipline by enforcing the oath of the red warrior and the death penalty for deserters and used ex Tsarist officers to assist in the organisation of the army. Trotsky s ability to successfully transform the Red Army and the significant role he played in Civil War are largely the reason for the Bolshevik victory and further highlight that Trotsky was the most able of men . However, despite his ability Trotsky was not able to rise to the highest office in the Land, as he lack political motivation, the personality traits required and a utilisation of the party apparatus. Trotsky despite his talents and status as a communist leader was disliked by his peers. His arrogance, condescension and perceived intellectual superiority alienated many of members of the politburo. If in an address that bored Trotsky he was known to have openly read a novel instead. Lenin himself raised concerns regarding the assured arrogance of Trotsky in his last testament writing that he is perhaps the most capable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Indicate conclusions that can be drawn based on the trend: The graphs below illustrate the stock prices of each company based on the timeline. By consulting the above graphs and charts it can be concluded that Pepsi has been a strong competitor to Coke and that throughout history they have been performing at comparable rates. Each has a similar background and customer base, but there are some differences between the two companies and their individual performance overall. It is clear that Pepsi holds a major stake in the market and is somewhat ahead of Coca Cola in market share and productivity. Although both companies appear to be competing neck to neck Pepsi appears to be performing at a slightly higher rate than Coke, despite the popularity of both. Coke is wildly popular and is considered an American institution, but many seek different tastes and this is where Pepsi has been taking some of the market share as some consumers opt for Pepsi as their choice of beverage. Both companies represented in the graphs shown previously are subject to the volatile market changes and increasing prices in commodities and other raw ingredients that each company relies on for their production of their products. As seen in the chart Pepsi is subject to the same market changes as Coke, but performance appears to steady and less erratic in its market fluctuations. • 12. Comparing Checks And Balances Of The Executive And A Prime... President is elected by the voters, while the head of state in a parliament generally Prime Minister is elected by the legislature. The difference seems small, but it ends up making a world of difference. The US prides itself on separation of powers the legislature makes the laws, and the executive executes them. They provide checks and balances on each other, ensuring that neither one gets too powerful. Either one can work, though. There are many countries with parliaments, and the executive doesn t run away with power. The parliament itself is still subject to the checks of the voters: voters unhappy with the performance of the executive will take it out on the executive s party. That even gives an opportunity for a third party to arise, for voters who don t want to switch to the opposite party. The next executive is chosen in the parliament based on negotiations between the third party and the two major parties. That s happening in the UK right now, where the Liberal Democratic party is in an unlikely coalition with the Conservative party, after voters abandoned an unpopular Labor Party. The LibDems are still much smaller, but very potent as kingmakers. (And about to be hammered themselves, next time it comes around.)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 13. Why Did Stalin Was Responsible For The Cold War Between 1945 and 1991 there was a lengthy struggle of ideologies between the United States and the Soviet Union, which was fuelled in the aftermath of the surrender of Hitler s Germany. America followed a political system of democracy, hence were capitalist, and in contrast the USSR was a communist state meaning they were anti liberal. Both countries tried to strengthen themselves and weaken the other side, without becoming involved in a hot war. They competed for influence in the world and wanted to advance their economic interests. Both countries aided to the start of the Cold Warhowever, Joseph Stalin s actions lead him to be mainly responsible, rather than Harry S. Truman. Stalin s unwillingness to withdraw his forces from most parts of Eastern Europe increased hostilities between the USSR and the United States. Unlike Roosevelt, Truman had a deep distrust of Stalin and was pessimistic about the success of any negotiations with the Soviet Union at the Potsdam Conference. Therefore when Stalin refused to withdraw his forces Truman knew he could do very little to prevent Soviet troops from occupying most of the land, such as Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, much of Germany including Berlin, and parts of Austria including Vienna. The separation of church and state. Immediate freedom for consumers and trade unions. And the introduction of a minimum wage. The Tsar and his elite began to understand that change was required before they lost complete control. By signing the October manifesto in 1905 Tsar Nicolas II turned Russia into a constitutional monarchy, gave its citizens civil rights and gave the Duma, Russia s parliament legislative power. • 17. Relationship Between Medical Service Consumption And... 2Literature Review 2.1 Insurance demand Economists have long explored the relationship between medical service consumption and health insurance demand, and found that they are dependent upon each other (DING Jihong, ZHU Minglai, 2007). The relationship between the demand of health insurance and the demand of health care of a nation has a strong relationship between, the reason lies behind the fact that health insurance is not bought by a customer in order to obtain a good, but as a mean of been able to pay health related services in the future (Feldstein, 1973). Having health insurance also affects the demand of health care, specifically when looking at people that could use health care services based on the fact that they re assured and use the health care as a prepaid service. Since health insurance twists the real price that people pay to utilize health care, there is a great possibility for a moral hazard (Arrow, 1963; Manning et al., 1987). Mark V. Pauly (2007) observed that health insurance often induces moral hazard which makes it harder for companies or the government to estimate the real coverage that a population would require. Thus, this problems weakens the entrance to the market not only of governmental institutions that would like to take over the health insurance, but also companies that would try to explore the insurance market of a region. John A. Nyman s (2003), presents a different point of view about how moral hazard affects the consumption of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Copyright Infringement is Immoral The average person wouldn t even consider walking into a music store and stealing a CD, however, with today s technology getting music without paying for it is so easy it barely seems illegal. Copyright infringement is a huge ethical issue going on right now. From downloading movies and music from peer to peer programs as well as various websites to being able to stream a movie at the click of a button without a copy ever being saved on the computer it s so simple, anyone could get addicted to doing it. For some of these reasons many argue that copyright infringement is a moral thing to do, but on the other hand others believe it is just as immoral as stealing. When comparing and contrasting reasons for why copyright infringement is moral and why it is immoral I think when it comes down to it it is stealing and would obviously be immoral. Before comparing the moralityof copyright infringement it needs to be understood what copyright infringement is and how it is done. Coming directly from the United States Copyright Office. Copyright infringement is when a copyrighted work is reproduced, distributed, performed, publicly displayed, or made into a derivative work without the permission of the copyright owner (par 5). It s pretty obvious that downloading copyrighted music from a website for free without owners permission is copyright infringement, but there are other things that also constitute as infringement that many people haven t even considered. • 20. Sonnet 6 Analysis Aj Giosa Mr. Foley Sonnet 6 Explication 26 November 2017 Sonnet 6 is notable for the ingenious multiplying of conceits and especially for the concluding pun on a legal will in the final couplet: Be not self willed, for thou art much too fair / To be death s conquest and make worms thine heir. Here, as earlier in the sonnet, the poet juxtaposes the themes of narcissism and death, as well as procreation. Self willed echoes line 4 s self killed, and the worms that destroy the young man s dead body will be his only heirs should he die without begetting a child which shows the theme of death. The whole sonnet is about trying to persuade the man to have a baby hence the theme if procreation. And lastly, the man is being selfish in wanting to die without passing on his beauty. The sonnet continues from sonnet 5 and is telling a young man to not let his wintery old age destroy his summer beauty. Meaning he should have children to pass down his good genes before he passes away along with his beauty. In the middle of the sonnet where the volta begins at line 6, talking about giving your body to a woman will make her happy and she will repay you with a baby. Now the real turn is having a baby or thyself breed another thee which is line 7. In the beginning of the poem having a child was about passing on his beauty rather than being happy. The new point is to make a new you so you keep living and conquer death. On to the end of the sonnet at line 11,which emphasizes the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main advantage of his method is that it requires less time to develop and is easier to adopt than the previously used survey methods. Moreover, the Linkert s approach does not require the use of negative wording points, which is why Linkert scalesurvey has been used so much. Likert Scaling is a undimensional scaling method. As in all scaling methods, the first step is to define what it is you are trying to measure. (Trochim, 2006) Questionnaire items are simple statements that the subject should be evaluated based on their personal views. Commonly used five gradations, such as: 1.Strongly disagree 2.Disagree 3.Neither agree or disagree 4.Agree 5.Totally agree. Statements wordings that are selected depend on the objectives of the researcher, the wording of the response may also vary, for example from frequent to never go out or always buy never buy. The number of grades can also be different (from three to nine). Selection of questions in the survey scale compiled into a pilot study. To do this, create an initial list of questions, which are offered to pilot survey takers from the chosen group of representatives (team members), they will test each question for appropriateness. Approvals must be consistent from each pilot test survey taker. Some questions will have to be taken off from the survey before the final survey is done. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The invasion on Iraq by the United States in 2003 has become the biggest, lengthiest, and most expensive use of armed force since the Vietnam War. It is the first major post Cold War U.S. military action taken unilaterally, without an international coalition, and the first U.S. experience as an occupying power in a Middle Eastern country. Although the invasion decision was distinctive (U.S. military connection in an Arab or Muslim country), the argument here is that the Iraqi invasion deals with motives related to natural security, power, and resources. Both realism and neo conservatism claim to capture the motives behind the war, but only through a comprehensive comparison of the two can a synthesis be achieved. On March 20th, 2003, the... Realism argues that states are inherently self interested, have an innate desire to dominate others, and that states are not likely to resolve their differences peacefully (Walt 31). Rational statesmen, as conceived by Morgantheau, continuously embarked on a struggle to accumulate more and more power. Power was an end in itself as only wars came out of the power struggle (Waltz 40). Realism helps to explain qualities of foreign policy that remain consistent over time. From a realist standpoint, verdicts by governments to go to war are the product of all states involuntary participation in eternal quests for power and security due to an international political environment in which each state fears the actual or potential hostility of other states (Lieberfeld 2). Leaders logically estimate war s costs and profits in terms of their state s power and security. States international behavior thus reflects the constraints imposed on their actions by their relative power position. It presents itself in many forms through a relationship, within the workplace, or even self imposed, women are always juxtaposed against the structure of power for one reason or another. However, despite the uplifting narrative development that generally occurs within these stories, the concern about powerstruggle is never truly resolved the problem remains. Through My ГЃntonia, Wide Sargasso Sea, and Roselily , the reader can see that the influence of power and its negative and toxic consequences proves fatal within class, race, and gender boundaries. Willa Cather s My ГЃntonia displays the gender focused concern about power within the female character s life. The narrator, Jim Burden, is immediately introduced to the reader as a man who sees the world through rose colored glasses. That is, he s got a romantic disposition on life and sees things the way he wants to see them, rather than the way they actually are. The most complicated area that concerns Jim, though, is his relationship with ГЃntonia. Throughout the novel, there s a clear longing for her that Jim seems to exude he never really attempts to kindle a romantic relationship with her, but she s a highly romanticized figure in his eyes and someone who he holds very dear. Humans began t o domesticate animals such as dogs, goats, chickens, sheep, and beasts of burden between 10,000 and 18,000 years ago. Many people originally believed that because animals had no souls they also felt no pain; however, this belief changed as the study of animals increased. The first animal protection law in western civilization was adopted in 1641; making it illegal to exercise any Tirranny or Crueltie towards any bruite Creature which are usuallie kept for man s use. • 36. The Texas Railroad Commission And The American Economy Essay The Texas Railroad Commission What does one think about when they hear the words Texas Railroad Commission? Many things may come to mind but it s really only two things and those are natural gas and oil. Which happened to be one of Texas biggest assets year round. It is one of the largest bodies in all of the country which gives it such a large influence on the supply and prices of oil in the country. When the commission first came about its original purpose was to oversee the railroads. When James Hogg lead the Populist style resentment for the railroads he won his election in 1890 and became governor mainly based on the fact that, he had promised to have the railroads regulated. The Texas Railroad Commission evolved from its founding in 1891 to a multi divisional regulatory commission that oversaw not only railroads but also a number of other industries central to the modern American economy: petroleumproduction, natural gasutilities, and motor carriers. (Childs, 2005) The state simultaneously amended the constitution to allow such a body. With this being established it gave jurisdiction over the operation of railroads, rates, wharves, terminals and express companies. Governor Hogg s first appointments were John H. Reagan (chairman), Judge William Pinckney McLean, and Lafayette L. Foster. In 1894 the legislature made the agency elective, the three commissioners henceforth serving six year, overlapping terms in Austin. (Prindle, 1991) Despite the occasional ... • 37. Myth Of Meritocracy The Myth of Meritocracy: Corruption in the Media and America s Education System Two hundred and fifty years ago, America was formed as a classless society, a meritocracy based on initiative, effort, and perseverance (Rocca 2). It was the land of equal opportunity, where power was vested in those individuals who had earned it. Advancement in society was based on merit, not favoritism. Those were the ideals America was built upon, but that is no longer the case. Diana Kendall s essay Framing Class, Vicarious Living and Conspicuous Consumption and Jean Anyon s study From Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work analyze two areas of society that foster inequality and validate the myth of meritocracy: our class system and education system. Anyon s essay describes the different teaching methods in fifth grade classrooms located in varying socioeconomic communities. Through her research, she points out that students in working class schools are treated much worse than those in affluent, elite classrooms, supporting the claim that opportunity is not distributed fairly in our public education system. Kendall s essay investigates another area where meritocracy should be but no longer is at work. She places blame on the media for the growing gap between upper and lower class Americans. She analyzes the way the media shapes our everyday lives and taints our view of class and social inequality. While both essays use logos to build their arguments and strengthen their ethos, Kendall takes a more informal tone in her essay and more heavily utilizes pathos. Although, rarely, does she blatantly bad mouth the media, Kendall has a more opinionated thesis littered with negative undertones about the media s influence within society. Anyon s summary of the study she conducted is purely qualitative data that she presents in an unbiased manner. Although she still makes an argument, there is little to no personal opinion about the issue. Instead, she chooses to build her ethos through clear and logical data, allowing room for the reader to really form their own opinion about the matter and potentially investigate it further. Although, I do enjoy partaking in and watching surgeries on YouTube. The sad part though for this lab was that it would be our last one with Mr.Cantrell. My partner for this lab was Caitlin Ledbetter, as she has also been my partner for the whole year. Once walking into the classroom, the smell of formaldehyde filled my senses, making me want to gag. The rat was laid face down on the tray and immediately we were able to distinguish whether it was male or female. We could tell our rat was male because of the inflamed or overly sized testes. After Mr.Cantrell gave us advice on how to successfully skin the rat, we began our dissection. Before we began to cut down the rat, we had to break both of the rats arms and legs in order to pin it down onto the tray. After doing this and pinning the rat down, we were able to begin. Caitlin picked up the scalpel and began to cut vertically down the rats stomach. We had to do this operation very slowly and delicately, otherwise we would cut through the muscle. After finishing cutting it vertically, we cut across both arms and legs. By then, we were able to peel the skin back and pin it onto the tray. We weren t able to see the organsyet, therefore we had to cut through the muscle. By cutting through the muscle, a lot of formaldehyde and bodily liquid began to pour out which was nauseating yet interesting. We decided to take both the rat and tray over to the trash can and dish out all of the formaldehyde that was filled inside of the rat s body. After doing this, we went back to ... So I went for a walk to try to sort out the things that plagued my mind. I was thinking about the mathematics class and how to apply the things I was learning to my life. After a few minutes of walking, I noticed that I had arrived in downtown Colorado Springs. It was very strange because I did not live near downtown. I was standing in the middle of Tejon Street, facing north. The buildings on either side of the street were dark as far as I could see. The street lamp cast an eerie glow across the darkened landscape. A light fog rolled in and the feeble light that shone from the street lamps grew hazy. The wind blew in gusts of regular increment. Somewhere in the distance I heard singing. The voice that sang echoed through the night in sad, hollow desperation. I could not hear the words, but the tune sounded familiar. On the corner closest to me, three scruffy little dogs appeared. They looked at me, sat down and began to howl. The singing from the distance grew louder. Through the fog I saw something walkingtowards me. There were several of them. As they drew nearer, I realized they were numbers. Numbers with legs, arms, faces. I saw the numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, and 8. They were singing the same thing over and over. One is the loneliest number. One is the loneliest number. The howling dogs added drama and sadness to the numbers song. • 41. Scrutinize Zeno s Dichotomy Paradox Zeno of Elea is most well known for his series of about 40 different paradoxes of plurality designed to show that believing in many things rather than just one can only lead to illogical conclusions. One of the topics he emphasizes on is motion, more specifically with these paradoxes he attempts to establish that motion is impossible. Here he describes three different paradoxes one of which is the Dichotomy paradox. The purpose of this essay is to scrutinize Zeno s Dichotomy paradox and to see if it properly defends itself against some of the main challenges that have been raised against it, which I believe Zeno has managed to do. I will reevaluate Zeno s paradox in comparison to see how well it defends against criticism. Although some arguments... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mathematics has greatly advanced since the time of Zeno and Aristotle and this has brought to light another way to counter Zeno s paradoxes. With the creation of calculus, Zeno s paradox has been more or less resolved. The calculus solution to this paradox considers the infinite sequence of ВЅ, Вј, 1/8, ..., 1/2^n, which is an infinite geometric sequence. Geometric sequences have a formula of ∑_(n=1)^в€ ћв–’гЂ–(гЂ– 1/2гЂ—^i )гЂ—=1 were the number of half steps are balanced out by the increasingly short amount of time needed to journey through all those distances. However, this is a convergence of an infinite series, which means that the sum of this can be approximated very closely to one if you add up enough terms. This mathematical explanation seemed to suffice for a lot of people, since the sum of all of those terms can be approximated closely enough to a doable number to justify motion being an actual thing. However, if we take a closer look at Zeno s paradox, the problem was not that the runner wouldn t get close to the final point, point B. The problem was that the runner would never actually manage to reach that final point because no matter how small the distance between the runner and the final point, the distance can still be divisible by half and therefore there would never be a final point were the runner would confidentially reach point B. Because the calculus equation can only approximate very closely to the final point, but never the actual point, this solution is still not the correct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I spent a very large amount of time soaking in all the information I could about certain professions. That included spent time with cousins and friends who were engineers, interning at my father s law firm, working for my uncle s electric company, and being a camp counselor with young children. After a lot of time and a lot of jobs, I still never found that passion that I was looking for. This could be what they mean when they say someone is burned out . By the time I began working for my football coach Kevon Bagot (we just called him KB) who was a personal trainer in the offseason, I had given no thought into being in the fitness industry, nor did I even think about it. However, it turned out to be my biggest passion and I learned more than I had in my entire life. While a growth mindset could help one significantly in terms of academics, I found it to be most useful to learn about myself. A growth mindset tends to be evident when it is applied to people s passions. Some people find their passion when they are in elementary school, others do not find them until after they are retired. • 43. Squaws And Nobel Maidens American Indians have been stereotyped in different forms of media for entertainment purposes for centuries. The male stereotypes, such as the Nobel Savage, are widely known in literature. American Indian women have also fallen victim to their own set of stereotypes. Two common labels regarding American Indian women are Squaws, and Nobel Maidens. European Americans have done their best to pigeonhole American Indians into these stereotypes, however, American Indian women are more complex than that. History dictates that these women had many roles in their respective tribes to include prominent positions. Since Europeans first arrived in the Americas in the late 1400s, they viewed American Indian relationships through their own cultural biases. Women were observed working alongside men, each contributing to the good of the tribe. Through the lens of cultural bias, Europeans immediately labeled these women as slaves, who were no better than animals. The early settlers failed to recognize that women were seen as equal to their male counterparts. Each sex had their own set of tasks, but all tasks were valued without one out weighing another (Lajimodiere, 2013). The slave stereotype continued to be perpetuated for centuries and became synonymous with the term Squaw. It infected the way American Indian women were treated by white men not only in the media, but in real life as well. In the media the Indian Squaw was routinely portrayed as a household servant, or a hyper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not long after the inception of the Articles of Confederation, it became clear that the several states functioning as independent units would not be able to provide a sufficient defense for the whole country. Following a constitutional convention, the present day Constitution was devised with a federal structure with three co equal branches endowed with certain enumerated functions. During the period from the Revolution to the Civil war, America s branches of government had always been in constant conflict. However, the period of reconstruction brought this strife to the forefront. It is inaccurate per se, to characterize this strife as one solely of branches of government competing for supremacy; rather, it is better characterized as a struggle of competing political goals. To understand Reconstruction, it is important to understand how differing ideologies understood the goals of reconstructing this country following the Civil War. This period was defined by the two party system that we know today: Democrats and Republicans. Following Reconstruction, the outer reaches of the Republican Party were defined by complete redefinition of the south. Specifically, many Republicans advocated for ridding the southern aristocracy of their property as well as their life styles. During this period bills were introduced by Republican congressman to redistribute the wealth of the southern aristocracy from wealthy slave owner planters to newly freed slaves. ... It s about explaining them what their weaknesses and strengths are. It can also help you as a writer by giving you ideas of how to put stuff together in your essay. I tried to explain to them what was wrong with each page step by step and what are some of their weaknesses and strengths. Reviewing papers can be really hard for multiple reasons. The major one is because I don t like telling others that they re doing something wrong, or because sometimes I just don t agree with their point of view, an example of this is the RPP of my peer Jeffrey.
