Influence Of Political Parties In The United States
Influence of Political Parties The American government runs on the party system. To be specific, it s
divided between Democrats and Republicans. A large part of the public also associates themselves as
Individuals because they feel that neither one of the parties represents their beliefs properly. Both
parties have very opposite beliefs from each other. The Republican party mainly consists of
conservatives and believes that the government should not be too involved in the economy because a
large government poses a threat to citizen s freedom. The Democratic party, on the other hand,
believes that government intervention in the economy is needed. Democrats are mainly Liberals and
they represent minorities, women, and the poor. They also support ... Show more content on

For the most part, America employs single member districts which means that the electorate only
chooses one representative from each district. During presidential elections, every state is given votes
through the electoral college which equals to the amount of U.S. senators and House members. Single
member districts tend to weaken third parties. In 1992, an Individual named Ross Perot ran for the
presidential election and although he gained 19% of the popular votes, he didn t receive any electoral
votes. This happened because the Electoral College leverages the two party system. To decrease the
amount of influence political parties have on the government, other governments like Sweden elect
legislators in multimember districts instead of single member districts, and the number of seats that a
party wins is proportional to the amount of its support among voters. For example, In Sweden 310
seats are allocated in 29 constituencies. This helps everyone s opinions and voices to be

The Effects Of Drought On The Southern United States
There is an alarming situation emerging in the Southwestern United States where record setting
drought conditions persist and the forecast for the future warns of continued drought conditions.
Effects of the drought are as visible as they are alarming; Lake Mead, one of the largest reservoirs in
this region is well below its high water mark leaving officials to wondering how they can continue to
provide both water and electricity to the region. According to the National Climate Assessment 2014,
ninety two percent of this region uses irrigation to water crops accounting for seventy nine percent of
the water withdrawals (Garfin). In addition, a study by NASA concludes droughts in the Southwest
United States may be longer and drier than previous droughts in the last one thousand years (Cole).
The ongoing drought in the Southwestern United States is driving water reserves to dangerously low
levels, adversely affecting an agricultural system that will have ripple effects throughout the entire
country, unless the farmers of this region can learn to farm without water they may not survive.5
In order to understand drought we must first understand what drought means. Drought is defined by
Merriam Webster dictionary as A period of dryness especially when prolonged; specifically: one that
causes extensive damage to crops or prevents their successful growth (Merriam Webster). The
southwestern United States is considered, for the most part, an arid region. That doesn t mean that it is

Chrysler Motors LLC Synopsis
Chrysler Motors LLC, a U.S. auto manufacturing company, is no stranger to creating various
automotive innovations through the years. Nor is the company a stranger to working its way through
financial ups and downs. During Chrysler s more profitable years the company has made several
successful strategic acquisitions such as the one during the 1920s when Chrysler bought the Dodge
Brothers firm. This acquisition allowed Chrysler to develop and release the low priced Plymouth
brand as well as the medium priced DeSoto brand which can be attributed to aiding in Chrysler s
survival during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Chrysler s success through the 1940s and 1950s
can be attributed to the company s ability to develop state of the art features for their vehicles from the
hemispherical head V8 engine, more commonly known as the HEMI engine, to power steering, power
windows, the alternator, electronic fuel injection, and many other automotive innovations. Chrysler s
success, however, did not end there as the company was also successful at expanding its operations to
overseas auto markets by acquiring the UK based Rootes Group, Simca, and Barreiros companies
(Wheelen Hunger 17 2). Unfortunately for Chrysler this was not enough to keep the company afloat as
the one thing Chrysler failed to do was pay heed to the changing demands of customers in their
domestic market. The oil crisis of the 1970s marked the beginning of Chrysler s decline in sales. In an
attempt to save the

Health Spending Account
Any time that an avenue can be explored which benefits both sides of the aisle, it should be covered
completely, discussed, and questioned. One of those things is a Health Spending Account. This fringe
benefit offering can help everyone! Here are some quick facts to spark your interest: FUNDS ARE

the employer, who pays payroll taxes as well. This could be as much as a ten percent savings. OFTEN

The HAS is independent of the insurance plan, so it goes with the employee. If next year finds a better

to pack that HSA. If the whole purpose of using the HDHP is savings, then this is another incentive to
keep looking for better plans. INTEREST CREATED THROUGH THE INVESTMENTS OF THE

The Argument Against Gay Marriges
Arguments against gay marriges Though there are differences in the views of different faiths,
conservative Protestants, the Catholic Church, Mormons, traditional Jews, and Muslims share two
fundamental antigay arguments. The first is that homosexuality is wrong because it involves sex that
doesn t create life. In the case of Judaism, a key Bible passage is the story of Onan (Links to an
external site.), who sleeps with his dead brother s wife but, to avoid giving his brother offspring, doesn
t ejaculate inside her. Instead, he spilt the seed on the ground. God slew him, which some might view
as a sign of disapproval (Links to an external site.).The Catholic catechism decries (Links to an
external site.) homosexual acts because they close the sexual act to the gift of life. Early American
antisodomy laws discouraged all forms of non procreative sex (including, incidentally, heterosexual
oral and anal sex). Islam shares a similar view. One Islamic hadith explains that Allah will not look at
the man who commits sodomy with a man or a woman. But if non procreative sex is the issue, society
started down the slippery slope not with the recent Supreme Court ruling but with production of the
pill or, really, even earlier, when birth control became common. We ve been into the non procreative
sex thing for some time now. Even most religious conservatives don t have the heart to go after this. If
sex without the possibility of creating life is wrong, then religious

Analysis Of Gowri Parameswaran s Article, Enhancing...
Gowri Parameswaran s article, Enhancing Diversity Education, is an informative academic journal
that highlights the role diversity will play in schools and why teachers will need to implement new
ways to involve students in the classroom. Parameswaran is a professor at the State University of New
York at New Paltz. She is also a chair of educational studies, who focuses on researching the impact of
gender, socioeconomic status, culture on children and adults in North America and India.
Parameswaran is currently researching the limited government services for families in poverty. Her

All together, Parameswaran s article is well researched as she refers to a variety of sources as she
transitions from one topic to the next. She cites information from many different sources to support
her overall stance but sometimes uses too many quotations. Although there is not a rule about how
many sources one should use in their academic writing, one can argue that Parameswaran s article is
mostly composed of source information, rather than composing her stance with her own voice.
Because the use of sources is overpowering, her writing becomes overwhelming for readers because
they are not getting the author s point of view on the issue. Parameswaran states that as students learn
about issues of discrimination, they begin to reexamine their values. At times, the reexamination leads
students who belong to dominant groups to feel guilty and accuse people who belong to
underrepresented groups of reverse racism (qtd. in Parameswaran 5). An example of a source
Parameswaran overuses is information from Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, a psychologist and author who
focuses on race in education, and expands on reverse racism. Tautm s book discusses how students
learn about Whites who were and/or are racists. Parameswaran reiterates Tatum s ideas by stating that
most students can name people who hold racist values, but cannot recall any White individuals who
fought against racial prejudice. According to Tatum, this is one reason that White

Biography of French Painter Jacques-Louis David Essay
My first choice of French painter, Jacques Louis David s work is Napoleon Crossing the Alps. As
important as the Church of the Savor on Blood was and still is important to Russia, Jacques Louis
David was important to revolutionary France. He lived in a very turbulent time in France s history. He
was a passionate supporter of French Revolution and the idea of overthrowing the monarchy. As a
French revolution came closer to reality, David turned away from a typical classical subject that he
was trained to paint and turned his brushes and an imagination towards depicting political events that
were surrounding him and France. One of the most iconic historical paintings has become Napoleon
Crossing the Alps. The work is neo classical, because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Colombia And The Revolutionary Armed Forces Of Colombia
In Colombia, a historic peace accord has been brokered between the government and the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) that is set to end half a century of conflict between
the state and the terrorist organization. The FARC rebels have long been a powerful member of the
cocaine trade in Colombia and beyond, aiding in the development and exportation of the drug to the
United States. With the alliance between the FARC rebels and the Colombian government pending,
the FARC will be demilitarized and integrated back into Colombian society for the first time in more
than 50 years. Upon this historic event, roughly 60% of Colombia s coca, the plant used to produce
cocaine, will be relinquished from the hold of the rebels. The ... Show more content on

government intervened in the situation, authorizing Plan Colombia, a $1.3 billion aid package
intended to reinforce the Colombian government and build up their military. With this support, anti
drug programs were initiated that slowed the FARC profits from the drug trade, today leaving the
FARC controlling 60% of the world s coca crops and earning anywhere from $200 million up to $1
billion annually from the drug trade. The current peace accord talks began on February 23, 2012,
when delegates from both the FARC and the Colombian government started meeting covertly in
Havana, Cuba. Following the formation of the Havana Accord on August 26 of that same year, formal
peace negotiations began on September 4. This accord makes clear six focal points: (1) integrated
agricultural development policy, (2) political participation for the FARC, (3) end of the conflict
Disarmament, (4) solution to the problem of illicit drugs, (5) victims, and (6) implementation,
verification, and ratification by the Colombian People. For the purposes of this paper, agenda points 1
and 4 will be most heavily referenced and analyzed. Agenda Item 1 was agreed upon on May 26,
2013. The Rural Reform Agreement focuses on the people, the small producer, land access and
distribution, the fight against poverty, stimuli to agricultural and livestock production and the
reactivation of the rural economy. The success of this endeavor is critical to eliminating the

Implicit Gender Messages in Advertisement If you have ever taken a psychology or sociology class,
you have heard of the film by Jean Kilbourne, Killing Us Softly 4, which maps out a variety of tropes
found in advertisement with regards to gender roles in American society. Some of the themes are, but
not limited to objectification, ageism, and dismemberment which are the tropes that I have decided to
focus on for this research project. The laws surrounding women objectification is slim, and it is
necessary to start implementing laws that protect women and how advertisements affect the minds of
young women growing up today. Kilbourne states in the film that the majority of advertisement ...

The message of this ad can be interpreted as a women s face being the only important part of her and
everything else appears to be in the shadows or darkness because it is less important. This is a great
example of Objectification Theory, (Fredrickson and Roberts, 1997) which states that women are seen
as objects, and therefore sexualized, so that they can be used by others. This woman s face is the only
important part of her. The slogan of the ad is a miracle sleeping cream/for more rested, younger
looking skin, which is relaying a message that beauty is for the young and that their product performs
miracles. Additionally, it suggests that staying young and beautiful are synonymous as well as a job
that a woman has to work at even when they are unconscious because youth/beauty is a 24 hour
obsession. There is no real testing or laws surrounding these products and how they are advertised. At
least none that I can find. Saying that it is an old product and it is doctor approved means nothing, and
yet we still trust it. There is also a stamp that endorses the product to suggest the legitimacy of it
because it reads quality tested / good housekeeping / since 1909 which insinuates that women are a

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure ( Vdi )
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) provides for the centralized administration, storage, and
provision of multiple computer systems via a centralized server which hosts compressed image files of
the operating systems as well as individual user desktops. The server that preforms this function is
called the hypervisor. In this way VDI functions as an infrastructure as a service (IaaS) architecture
that can seamlessly provide computer service to a client which can be as bare bones as a dummy
terminal or hearty as a full powered desktop workstation. This capability of VDI technology can alone
revolutionize computing, allowing for only a few centralized powerful systems to manage all of the
computer infrastructure within an organization, providing service to inexpensive, lightweight, and
portable dummy terminals to complete an organization s computer infrastructure. In addition to
identifying the general mechanics of VDI, benefits and pitfalls of the technology, certain legal
implications, and varying opinions of the technology, another primary element of research was
qualifying the sustainability of VDI technology as well. The research question for the purpose of the
paper therefore was formulated Can it be qualified that VDI is a sustainable technology? . If VDI was
qualifiable as a sustainable technology, its further widespread implementation could revolutionize
computing, transforming it into a commodity service based infrastructure, whereas if it were not

The Critical Opprobrium Of Volcanoes
The media has engendered the critical opprobrium of volcanoes with their triumphant essays at
delineating volcanic eruptions so as to give the impression that they are devastating and precarious. As
a result, the negative stigma encompassing volcanoes and their concomitants permeates all walks of
life. Under the nourishment of ignorance and fear, which are constituents of the human condition,
antipathy multiplies. Ergo, Homo sapiens, possessing complex cognitive neural processes, are
predisposed to the fallacious notion that assumes volcanoes have deleterious effects on the progression

The article, Volcanic Soils , states that loam within the confines of Mount Vesuvius and the regions its
ejections once engulfed is so fertile that farmers frequently plant different crops intermingled with one
another in order to maximize the utilization of every square inch available. This practice is called
intercropping, and is highly esteemed for its pecuniary benefits. When implemented, it enables the
optimum exploitation of resources, provides indemnity against total crop failure, and induces the
greatest yield. Moreover, well vegetated volcanic terrains that kindle allure entice tourists. For
example, the article, On the Slopes of Mauna Loa, Hawaii Island , visitors flock to Highway 11, a
route from the west coast of Hawaii that approaches the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Travelers

sources of economic stability. Tourism creates jobs, both through direct employment within the
tourism industry and indirectly within sectors such as retail and transportation. When laborers spend
their wages on goods and services, it gives rise to what is known as the multiplier effect , producing
more jobs. The tourism industry also offers opportunities for small scale business enterprises, which is
particularly salient in rural communities. It engenders extra tax revenues, which can be used to
generate funds for local institutions, including schools and hospitals. Moreover, volcanic soils play an
integral role in the lucrative dairy industry of The North Island of New Zealand, which is bountiful in
volcanic loam. Volcanic soils are felicitous for pasture growth because of how well they retain water
for plants, subsequently resulting in verdant pasturelands. Volcanoes appease our materialistic

Theme Of The Hypocrite
The play begins with a household in disarray, and the central themes of morality and religion are
immediately apparent. The play s initial conflict is based around Madame Pernell s insistence that her
son s household is insufficiently pious. It is worth noting that for Moliere s society, religion and
morality were not considered separate virtues, but rather dependent ones.
The initial conflict centers on Tartuffe (Played by Dalton Grafton), who is already established as a
central character even though he does not enter until Act III. It is obviously improper to allow an
elderly family member to leave the home unsatisfied, but everyone is flabbergasted about how to
answer her charges, precisely because they do not understand the obsession with Tartuffe. Part of the
older woman s problem is that she takes Tartuffe at face value because he expresses piety, he is a
model of piety. Because her family does not express such piety, and dares to challenge Tartuffe s
expressions of it, they are impious. The irony for the audience lies in our awareness that she is turning
from her family in the name of religion, while they are desperately trying to placate her. By the time
she exits at the end of Scene I, the import of the play s subtitle The Hypocrite is extremely clear, and
the conflict between appearance and reality is well established.
Dorine (played by the Elise Marshall) is established as the arguably strongest character even in this
first scene. Though she is a servant,

How Did The Iroquois Accomplish
Iroquois: Native Life, Assimilation, and War
The Iroquois nations, one of the oldest and most prestigious tribes in the history of all Native
Americans. In this paper I will be showing why the Iroquois ended up siding with the English through
the French and Indian, and Revolutionary wars through factors of colonization. I will also be showing
some features of their culture, considering the iroquois are not well known in the western United
States, and discussing the fall of the once great tribes. The main reason I ve chosen the Iroquois is
because of my own prior knowledge of the Iroquois, and their relationship to lacrosse. I started
playing lacrosse my freshman year of highschool. The very first thing I learned, before any stick skills
or any basics of the game, was the history of it. Our coach insisted that we knew the history and the
culture of the game, and that we respected it. I was intrigued by how interesting the game was. The
game was made as a form of war. Lacrosse was sometimes even referred to as Little brother of war . It
would be called this because injury, even death were common during a lacrosse game. When two
tribes had a disagreement, but didn t feel the need to have a legitimate war, the opposing tribes would
send their best warriors to the battlefield and play a lacrosse game. Games would be played to a score
of 5 7, but considering how long the fields could be, these games could take hours, days even,
however long it took for one of the tribes to win,

Hebraic Monarchy In Israel
The year of approximately 1051 B.C. of the United Kingdom Period of Israel was a significant year in
that it was marked by a shift in the Hebrew view of God and his position over their nation (Hindson
and Yates, 2010). For centuries prior to this date, the Hebrew people not only dwelled under the
theocratic institutes of Yahweh, but for a time, also viewed him as their supreme leader and judge
(Johnson, 2012). By around 1051 B.C., however, the Hebrew mindset had altered, and desiring to
imitate the surrounding nations, the Hebrews demanded that a monarchy be established over them
(Hindson and Yates, 2010). The ultimate result was the founding of the Hebraic monarchy under the

For a brief time, Solomon followed in the footsteps of his father, and exemplified righteousness,
wisdom, and spiritual fervor in every action he undertook. As a result of his actions, the Lord blessed
his endeavors and the kingdom of Israel thrived and prospered under his jurisdiction. However,
Solomon had one great weakness: a love of women. Due to this obsession with women, Solomon took
many wives, most of whom were pagan and had no love for Yahweh or his statues (Maller, 2011).
Sadly, his love for his many pagan wives gradually led Solomon astray, resulting in his adoption of
much of their pagan religious views (1 Kings 11:3 6). Although he is described as still acknowledging
the Lord, his heart was no longer as devoted to the will of God as it had formerly been, and Jehovah
Jireh had become only one out of the host of other gods to be worshiped (Hindson and Yates, 2010).
The Lord, displeased and grieved by Solomon s infidelity, warned Solomon that as a result of his
ungodliness and unfaithfulness, his kingdom would be torn from his descendants and given to another.
That is, his land would be divided and bestowed upon another individual not of the house of David
and the once united nation of Israel, would now fall prey to great disunity, incessant war, and bitter
rivalries, all as a result of Solomon s failure to maintain an upright spirit before his God (Maller,

Supportive Family Goals
Having a supportive family is the most important thing that you can have when you are trying to
achieve goals. Without the supporting family, it will be likely that you won t or can t achieve the
goals. Many things can help/hinder your progress in achieving these goals such as financial status,
social class, levels of education, or even family tradition. Though these things do affect the progress
towards these goals, I know that it is still possible to achieve these goals. Race and certain
neighborhoods did hinder a lot of people from achieving success, but my mom grew up in a very
affluent neighborhood where she saw very successful people which led her to believe that success was
easy to obtain. Growing up, my mom had a mom and a dad present in her household, that each had a
job, were very supportive and only wanted success for their daughter. At that time, the neighborhood
they were in was average which allowed her to see how to be successful and make her strive to be
successful. Her parents wouldn t accept anything less than 110% and expected her to be successful.
Living in a nicer neighborhood and having a supportive family made it easier for her to continue
striving for success. My mom s family was middle class and was ineligible for many of the financial
assistance programs, so all of the schooling or programs she took part in she had to work to put herself
through. Being with a successful family, this made her journey to becoming successful much easier
financially.

The Epidemic Of The Obesity Epidemic Essay
Introduction The World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity as the excessive accumulation of
fat that puts the person s health at risk (Lenzi et al., 2015). The prevalence of obesity has increased
worldwide over the past three decades. According to Holtz (2016), obese people have outnumbered
the undernourished, with the World Health Organization estimating that 1.9 billion adults are
overweight, out of which about 600 million are obese. Given the recent trends, it is estimated that 1.12
billion people will be obese by 2030 (Grossschädl, 2014). According to a report by the McKinsey
Global Institute, 2014), the global impact of the obesity epidemic is estimated to be $20 trillion, or 2.8
percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP), which is on a par with the global impact from
terrorism, armed violence, smoking, and warfare. Setting the Context Presently, the toll of the
epidemic on healthcare systems alone is between 2 percent and seven percent of net healthcare
spending in industrialized economies, excluding the huge costs associated with the treatment of heart
disease and type 2 diabetes that account for up to twenty percent of healthcare costs (Bassuk Manson,
2008; Alosco et al., 2015). In addition to the costs to healthcare systems, obesity undermines the
productivity of employees, thereby undercutting corporate competitiveness. According to the

Another instance of this is in the battle scene in Chapter Three when Maika uses a unicorn horn to kill
one of the guards. On this page, four diagonal lines separate the page; one of which is not parallel with
the others This demonstrates Maika s rapid movement, and the skewed line shows precisely how
jarring her act of violence is. Takeda also uses the lines themselves in various interesting ways.
Whenever there is a flashback scene, the divisions are black, unlike the current events in which they
are white. In addition, during her forced recollection of Constantine in Chapter Six, the lines are both
black and blurred, showing that this memory is less clear than the others. Another innovative instance
is in Chapter One when Maika attacks Sophia with a flamethrower. On this page, the flames move
over the borders into other panels, showing just how much the flames are consuming.
With the color palettes used in the various settings, Takeda sets the tone for the scenes and allows for
better reader clarity. The first major setting in the novel is the city of Zamora, where inside the
Cumaean stronghold, jewel tones and gold are the most dominant (Chapter One). This shows the
reader the opulence and glamour the Cumaea experience, demonstrating their greed and power, which
the reader learns is due to both being born with some magical abilities and their use of Lilium. This is
in stark contrast to the green hues that Takeda uses to create the prison scenery.

presents the career process as one in which a person is confronted with various stages that he or she
must undergo and complete before moving on to the next stage. Details According to Niles Harris
(2013), Donald Super developed his theory segmentally. There is no Super s theory ; there is just the
assemblage of theories that Super sought to synthesize. The result is really a segmental theory
describing three key aspects of career development: (a) life span, (b) life space, and (c) self concept.
The theory culminates in an intervention model labeled as the Career Development Assessment and
Counseling (C DAC) model. The Life span, life space theory has a focus on self concept. It is believed
that career development is a continuous, life long process. Vocational self concept develops through
physical and mental growth, observations of work, identification with working adults, general

The Invention of Television and Its Effects on Society
People in today s society live a daily life that a basic person could map out. They go to work, come
home and make dinner, and sit down and watch some television. For kids it would be to come home
from school, and watch television. Television has become a major power in our culture. It is our way
to watch the news, hear the weather forecast, and to sit down and relax watching our favorite show or
movie. But is the television really that good for our society? In 1884 the first ideas of the television
came to an inventor by the name of Paul Nipkow. It was called the scanning disk and was patented by
him in 1884. It worked by having a large disk spin in front of an object, while the photoelectric cell
that worked it would take in the changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to a battle between the powers for the patent on the television. Farnsworth knew that he
couldn t license his own inventions at the time because the patent war was in court. Farnsworth
himself couldn t even keep his own working area stable. During the patent battle he fired his fellow
lab workers and rehired them many times. This was due not only to financial troubles, but of his lack
of confidence in his control in the company.
RCA in the meantime had begun their investment in the idea of the television. Before 1939 the Radio
Corporation of America had dumped over ten million dollars into the development of the television.
At the 1939 World s Fair in New York, Sarnoff spoke on behalf of RCA and said that they would
launch commercial television. This was an understatement for the time though as the Radio
Corporation of America s camera was not yet ready, and the corporation had yet to own a patent on the
television. RCA later in 1939 had to pay patent royalties to Farnsworth s company, which made
Farnsworth part of the television scene. But Farnsworth now realized that the situation was out of his
hands and into businessmen s hands. He sold off his company after World War II.
In today s world television has taken a very dominant role in our lives. One could look at the average
American s viewing habits as follows. A person wakes up and turns on the television to see the
morning weather and how their stocks fared. The individual proceeds to go to work,

The Problem Of Addiction Among Teenage Addiction
Eight grade, a time of merely adolescence. It has been recorded that by 8th grade 28% of adolescents
have consumed alcohol, 15% have smoked cigarettes, and 16.5% have used marijuana. A drug can be
defined as a something which alters your mind or body that is not food something all of these
substances have in common. As the years go by there has been a massive increase in underage
consumption of illegal substances. These substances which young people are using are known for
being very addictive, and being taken so young addiction is much more likely to occur, possibly
having more severe consequences. Throughout history, a plethora of cultures have contributed to this
problem of addiction which can be seen within their historical roots. The collective perception that
serious drugs could cure almost anything when used for medicinal purposes, was a major ignition to
the overall issue. As more and more countries began to desire these various drugs as they became
more available, the use of drugs spread rapidly through what is known today as the global drug trade.
Through expansion of familiar substances known as coffee, and opium during the earlier centuries, the
concept of addiction has evolved into what our society has become today. Use of drugs or illegal
substances has been a recurring theme over the past centuries. Originally discovered in Yemen, coffee
gradually become a favorite among the people. There were several legends on how exactly coffee

As such the wide variety of laws and regulations make it very difficult for HSBC Holding Plc to have
a proper control over its operations. This could lead to loopholes in the business operations and it
could lead to negative effects affecting its daily activities. Also, another weakness of the organisation
is; there is no such thing as a Global Standards policy which has yet to be completely implemented.
The greatest weakness of HSBC Holding PLC is its capacity of not taking full advantage of its brand
name. It has long operated through different name like Hong Kong Bank of Canada. Despite providing
its services since many years, the organisation did not display itself under only one brand name. As
such the brand recognition can be damaged. Its potential customers may think that HSBC is a new

Gerda Weissmann
NOBLE be man, Helpful and good! For that alone Distinguisheth him From all the beings Unto us

she was saved by Kurt Klein. Gerda repeated this poem in spite of the Germans who put Gerda
through so much. Gerda Weissmann was a courageous Holocaust survivor who faced death in order to
save innocent lives from the hands of the Germans.
Gerda was only a teen when her life was changed. Gerda Weissmann was fifteen when Poland was
taken by the Germans in 1939. Gerda and her parents were moved into their own basement, as an

Gerda Weissmann is a strong figure, who stayed brave during the Holocaust. Gerda Weissmann has
taught me that you should be strong in the face of danger. She has taught me that even when you are
struggling to keep yourself alive, you still have the ability to stand for others and save them as well.
Even though I have just learned of the great deeds she has done, I am proud to say that Gerda
Weissmann and her story have helped me become a better person. I am astounded by her strong will,
and hope that I will also be brave like Gerda Weissmann.
He and he only The good can reward, The bad can he punish, Can heal and can save This stanza, also

African societies have a widely held public opinion that artists, especially reggae artists are either
illiterates or take marijuana or other substances of abuse. As much as such stereotypes hold for some,
here is a man whose career has broken the barriers of such stereotypes.
As the door to the music studio opens, a neatly dressed, huge man of about 5 90 tall, and seemingly in
his early 50s, walks in. Call him King Isaac.
This is one of the rare occasions when he will allow a journalist to follow him to the studio.

The euphoria for independence, black liberation, those were the basic corner stones of the

Joining a local band made debut for him and recorded his first gig, Simuka , a reggae ice about the

The Cause of Global Financial Crisis
Ⅰ the causes of global financial crisis
1、Boom and burst in the housing market
Low interest rates and large inflows of foreign funds created easy credit conditions. Subprime lending
contribute to increase the housing demand. This fueled rising house prices. This housing bubble
resulted in quite a few homeowners refinancing their homes at lower interest rates. This led to a
building boom. Easy credit encouraged borrowers to obtain ARM. If borrowers could not make the
payments ,they would try to refinance. Refinancing became more difficult, when house prices began
to decline in USA. Borrowers found themselves unable to afford higher monthly payments ,then
default. This places downward pressure on housing prices.

Ⅱ Explain how the subprime crisis of the US spreads to the whole world?
The subprime mortgage crisis is an ongoing financial crisis triggered by a dramatic rise in mortgage
delinquencies and foreclosures in the United States, with major adverse consequences for banks and
financial markets around the globe. Apart from the fact that banks based in other parts of the world
also suffered losses from the subprime market, there are two major ways in which the effect is felt
across the globe.
First, the US is the biggest borrower in the world since most countries hold their foreign exchange
reserves in dollars and invest them in US securities. Thus, any crisis in the US has a direct bearing on
other countries, particularly those with large reserves like Japan, China and so on.
Also, since global equity markets are closely interlinked through institutional investors, financial crisis
affecting these investors sees a contagion effect throughout the world. The panic psychology takes
over and a large number of people cash in their chips. This disturbs global financial market further.
For emerging market countries, in the first place, the crisis derived from the setback in exports of
goods and services to the European and American countries, but not the collapse of the banking
system. People claims that the model of crisis transmission in USA is from virtual economy to real
economy, however, the harsh

A Brief Note On The South Territory Of Australia
In the Northern Territory of Australia, almost one third of the population is Aboriginal. They also own
almost half the land in the territory, mostly as communities. Most of these communities are very
remote, which doesn t leave very many options for economic growth and development because of
limited infrastructure, environments not conducive to normal agriculture, and the education levels in
regards to reading and math are low (Gorman). Because of this, many of the communities there are
struggling financially, many of the people depending on welfare. Additionally, many of the public
funds that are going to help the indigenous people in Australia are going to the larger communities,
instead of the smaller, more remote ones (Koenig). Because of this, the people in these remote
communities are having to find new ways to provide for themselves as the world changes around
them. In the past, the Aboriginals were primarily foragers. They hunted and gathered the resources
around them. As the country has changed, cutting down on the amount of land they have available,
and the resources on it, they have had to find new ways to supplement this with other ways to survive
and thrive, often selling different forms of art, or allowing outside companies access to their land to
mine minerals for a fee. Several communities have also started small scale companies that are using
local plants in different ways, such as food, food additives, and botanical medicines (Gorman).

Difference Between Homeland Security And Homeland Security
Homeland Security and Homeland Defense are two concepts that will have intersecting missions
combined with parallel directives and even sometimes competing objectives. While the concept of
Homeland Security and Homeland Security will be explored with greater depth later, the question is
how does Homeland Security and Homeland Defense both protect critical national infrastructure. How
do these two different missions both compete and complement one another in their efforts to protect
those vulnerable infrastructure elements to ensure they remain safe and away from those who would
want to do harm in an effort to create widespread terror and even disable or disorient our national
defense.
Homeland Defense refers to the guarding of national sovereignty, of protecting actual territory and the
population contained within against external threats. The mission of this defense has been traditionally
been charged to groups like the National Guard with what is referred to as Title 32 duty from the state
National Guard troops. This allows personnel with traditional military training to perform many
necessary duties to the homeland defense mission without ever running afoul of the Posse Comitatus
Act. Posse Comitatus basically restricts the military from performing and domestic law or policy
enforcement. While the act only specifically refers to the Army, and then the Air Force was also
amended to be a party to the law in 1956, the Navy and Marines also adhere to the rules by

Chemers perceived that there are three theoretical explanations for the main differences between male
and female leadership. One difference, the most obvious, is biological differences, which is based
around hormones and temperament. The second difference is culturally diversities. This tells that
socialized roles are varied per culture. The final difference is structurally determined. The different
sexs have very diverse organizational structures (Eagly, Makhijani, Klonsky, 1992; Chemers, 2000).
Placing practical differences aside, the essential problem with women leadership roles is actually seen
in the attitudes of those around them. The attitudes people have towards women when they are the
ones making decisions are a perception with no objectivity, formally known as a stereotype.
Stereotyping is one of the main obstacles women endure in their leadership positions. Gender Role
Theory is the development of expectations people create of their own and others behavior based on the
beliefs about what is appropriate for both male and females. For example, if a female were to pull out
a man s chair at a restaurant before seating herself or open his car door before getting in the car, that
would be found as odd behavior for a women.

The Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four Evangelists uses an interesting technique in its apse,
compared to previous Byzantine decorations in apses. It incorporates the technique of fresco painting,
where artists painted pigments into the plaster and wood on the walls so the paint would become one
with the walls similar to methods used in ancient Greece, compared to exercising mosaics as
decorations in apses. The artist mostly employed primary pigments in the Christ in Majesty with
Symbols of the Four Evangelists to make the figures stand out. A repetition occurs in the pigments
with red, gold like yellow, and blue with the occasional purple and the hair colors vary with tones of
brown and grayish white. The style portrayed in the Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four
Evangelists follows previous rules with the representation of divine figures in churches. The
proportions of the piece utilizes the hierarchy scale with the most important figure Christ. The figure
of Christ is the largest image shown in the apse, and other figures such as the apostles, the four
symbols of the evangelists, and the scenes from the New Testament are roughly the same size. The
smallest figures appear in the windows the sacrifice scenes with Cain and Abel. The artist employed a

St. Boniface and Catholicism in Germany
Prior to the work of St. Boniface in central Germany from 716 to 754 A.D., the local Hessian and
Thuringian people worshiped pagan gods and honored living things essential to daily life, such as the
oak trees of the surrounding forests, which provided everything from building materials to nuts for
food. Though Christianity had been introduced to this area, the current practice was actually heresy
because people practiced a blend of Christian and pagan beliefs and rituals. St. Boniface not only
returned Catholicism to Germany, but kept heresy, the Church s main challenge during this time
period, out of central Germany. St. Boniface s goal was to expand the Catholic Church in Germany,
making certain that that the political authorities were firmly committed to Christianity. He went
further, and was not only Pope Gregory s missionary to Germany, but also purified the faith of the
people, removing the culturally ingrained practices of paganism. During this time period, some
Germans didn t fully understand Christianity, and although many in Upper Hesse converted, they still
practiced their old pagan rituals. St. Boniface built schools and seminaries in Upper Hesse. The area
fully converted to Catholicism thanks to the teachings of faithful priests and teachers who were
brought in by Boniface to teach the full truth of the Catholic Church without aspects of the old pagan
beliefs or rituals included. The eighth century Germans used gods to explain the different things in

The American Film Industry
The American film industry is one of the most far reaching and influential businesses in today s world.
Movies constantly spawn franchises which have die hard fans lined up for hours just to get a ticket for
a movie that is months away. The celebrities in our movies are elevated to a position of super fame. It
is the nature to a human to adapt to conditions over a given period of time. Adaptation continues
through into our entertainment as well. Audiences are becoming accustomed to seeing the same things
on the screen over and over again. Filmmakers are constantly trying to keep audiences entertained,
which is becoming an increasingly difficult task. Today s general film going audience quickly
becomes bored and seeks more stimulation from the movies.
Computer generated images or CGI has been a chief method to keep modern audiences entertained,
while being cost effective to practical effects. With the recent use of CGI in movies, anything has
become possible. The use for practical effects is minimal to nearly non existent since Jurassic Park
and Terminator 2 first showed the wide spectrum of what was possible. It is increasingly common for
films to focus more on the visual effects, than the story of the film itself. Some notable examples of
this are the Transformers series of movies, and Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. In the
Transformers series the films focus on the action scenes of CGI robots. Human characters in this story

In his article, Swine Flu Vaccine: What Is Fair?, Gostin points out that rich countries in general will
probably use their vastly superior spending power to acquire vaccines. Stockpiling by the rich, of
course, leaves poor countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America much more vulnerable (11). After all,
everyone needs to be protected from the dangers of H1N1 Influenza throughout the world and income
should not play a role in who is vaccinated. It is a reality that every individual is just as important as
the next and should have a fair chance at a vaccination. Organizations are creating the vaccines with
the idea of profit in mind and this is not fair to the poorer countries around the globe. Wealthy
countries are definitely more likely to acquire vaccinations in relation to poorer ones. Second, it is
advisable that everyone should get vaccinated against H1N1 Influenza because it can prevent the
Swine Flu from spreading any further. If the entire world s population was vaccinated against the
Swine Flu, this would result in the complete control of the virus. We need to stop H1N1 Influenza in

Complications Of The Transcontinental Railroad
Do you ever wonder what make our country so great? What events lead up to what we are today? The
United States has many different ups and downs but one has an upside and a downside. I m talking
about the Transcontinental Railroad. The Transcontinental Railroad was the first railway to go across
the country. One of the complications of the railroad was that the government forcefully moved the
Native Americans to reservations. Ways they got natives to go to the reservations was though taking
their land, killing buffalo, and forcefully taking them. To the settlers manifest destiny was more
important than Indian lives. They took Native land to make to make what they thought was more
important(Doc 3). By taking the Natives land they are giving them a chance at owning the land and
citizenship. But many of the Native people didn t have the money to buy the land they live on. Ways
they killed buffalo was the tracks stopped them from migrating, the settlers killed them for sport, and
trains hit them. The Indians kept harassing the train workers to try and get them to stop building the
track so the buffalo can migrate (Doc 2). By killing buffalo the natives would starve and have no
reason to stay there. But not all of the effects of the railroad are bad. Some of the good effects are
people didn t have to go around the continent to go to California. Before they had to go around the tip

pseudoscientist, or fake scientist. They use a big word like biomagnetic to make it seem like it s useful
just by saying a scientist who is actually a fake scientist describe it with big words. Next, they counter

Z6 House Case Study
All rooms in Z6 house receive plenty of light since the building envelope is 73% (area) glazing. A big
window can let in plenty of outdoor air and sunshine to stop the growth of bacteria. In Z6 house,
skylights will bring light into the two bathrooms in the upstairs. The southwest, southeast, and
northeast exterior have operable windows and doors, while the northwest facade has a translucent
insulated panel for daylight transmission in a direction without desirable views. Scientists discovered
daylight through glass could stop the growth of bacteria. There is a research highlighted that how day
lighting can significantly increase human health and performance.
We spend almost 90 per cent of times in our homes, which mean we inhale huge amount of indoor air,
so it is very easy to see how indoor air quality impact our health. According to the research carried out
by Steven E. Ternoey which titled Day light Every Building , there are many benefits that human can
gain from day light especially in the indoor. From the research, we know that there were noticeably
less disciplinary problems and absenteeism in day lit classrooms. Students show positive attitude and
easier to focus in the class. In day lit areas, retail sales increases of 8 to 12% were recorded. Human
health appears to be measurably benefited by relatively small indoor doses of diffuse daylight. Our
body need vitamin D and absorbing of sunlight helps in the making of vitamin D in our body. If we do

The Pros And Cons Of The FTC
Gavel on view of city in stormy sky Last week, officials of the Federal Trade Commission announced
that three Dallas area dealers collectively known as Southwest Kia have agreed to pay an $85,000 civil

Beverage Choices Of Bottled Water Essay
We are a 24/7 on the go society who wants convenience in our beverage choices . Kim E. Jeffery,
CEO of Nestle Waters North company, made this comment in representation of the largest leader in
the bottled water industry. It is no wonder how bottled water became so popular in our society.
Healthier than soda, bottled water is conveniently stored in a lightweight, disposable, plastic bottle.
Bottled water sales started when Perrier glass bottled water came overseas to America in the late 1970
s and in 1989, water was available in PET plastic bottles (Tapped). Now everywhere, bottled water
can even be found in high school cafeterias while there are water fountains located in nearly every
hall. However, there is an opposing view to the product with names such as Ice Mountain, Aquafina,
Dasani, Sam s Choice, and Acadia. Through research, bottled water is known to carry human
pollutants, exceed other natural resource costs, and take part in a large portion of plastic waste, all in a
sixteen ounce plastic bottle. Although bottled water is convenient in only a few cases, public education
and legislation are necessary because of the human pollutants, costs, and waste.
Bottled water is becoming such a growing industry because it does show to be convenient in some
cases. As Kim E. Jeffery states, Bottled water provides a healthy alternative at a time when obesity is a
growing problem ( Success ). With companies like Coca Cola, Pepsi, and Nestle, bottled pop became

  • 2. Influence Of Political Parties In The United States Influence of Political Parties The American government runs on the party system. To be specific, it s divided between Democrats and Republicans. A large part of the public also associates themselves as Individuals because they feel that neither one of the parties represents their beliefs properly. Both parties have very opposite beliefs from each other. The Republican party mainly consists of conservatives and believes that the government should not be too involved in the economy because a large government poses a threat to citizen s freedom. The Democratic party, on the other hand, believes that government intervention in the economy is needed. Democrats are mainly Liberals and they represent minorities, women, and the poor. They also support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the most part, America employs single member districts which means that the electorate only chooses one representative from each district. During presidential elections, every state is given votes through the electoral college which equals to the amount of U.S. senators and House members. Single member districts tend to weaken third parties. In 1992, an Individual named Ross Perot ran for the presidential election and although he gained 19% of the popular votes, he didn t receive any electoral votes. This happened because the Electoral College leverages the two party system. To decrease the amount of influence political parties have on the government, other governments like Sweden elect legislators in multimember districts instead of single member districts, and the number of seats that a party wins is proportional to the amount of its support among voters. For example, In Sweden 310 seats are allocated in 29 constituencies. This helps everyone s opinions and voices to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Effects Of Drought On The Southern United States There is an alarming situation emerging in the Southwestern United States where record setting drought conditions persist and the forecast for the future warns of continued drought conditions. Effects of the drought are as visible as they are alarming; Lake Mead, one of the largest reservoirs in this region is well below its high water mark leaving officials to wondering how they can continue to provide both water and electricity to the region. According to the National Climate Assessment 2014, ninety two percent of this region uses irrigation to water crops accounting for seventy nine percent of the water withdrawals (Garfin). In addition, a study by NASA concludes droughts in the Southwest United States may be longer and drier than previous droughts in the last one thousand years (Cole). The ongoing drought in the Southwestern United States is driving water reserves to dangerously low levels, adversely affecting an agricultural system that will have ripple effects throughout the entire country, unless the farmers of this region can learn to farm without water they may not survive.5 In order to understand drought we must first understand what drought means. Drought is defined by Merriam Webster dictionary as A period of dryness especially when prolonged; specifically: one that causes extensive damage to crops or prevents their successful growth (Merriam Webster). The southwestern United States is considered, for the most part, an arid region. • 4. Chrysler Motors LLC Synopsis Chrysler Motors LLC, a U.S. auto manufacturing company, is no stranger to creating various automotive innovations through the years. Nor is the company a stranger to working its way through financial ups and downs. During Chrysler s more profitable years the company has made several successful strategic acquisitions such as the one during the 1920s when Chrysler bought the Dodge Brothers firm. This acquisition allowed Chrysler to develop and release the low priced Plymouth brand as well as the medium priced DeSoto brand which can be attributed to aiding in Chrysler s survival during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Chrysler s success through the 1940s and 1950s can be attributed to the company s ability to develop state of the art features for their vehicles from the hemispherical head V8 engine, more commonly known as the HEMI engine, to power steering, power windows, the alternator, electronic fuel injection, and many other automotive innovations. Chrysler s success, however, did not end there as the company was also successful at expanding its operations to overseas auto markets by acquiring the UK based Rootes Group, Simca, and Barreiros companies (Wheelen Hunger 17 2). Unfortunately for Chrysler this was not enough to keep the company afloat as the one thing Chrysler failed to do was pay heed to the changing demands of customers in their domestic market. The oil crisis of the 1970s marked the beginning of Chrysler s decline in sales. In an attempt to save the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Argument Against Gay Marriges Arguments against gay marriges Though there are differences in the views of different faiths, conservative Protestants, the Catholic Church, Mormons, traditional Jews, and Muslims share two fundamental antigay arguments. The first is that homosexuality is wrong because it involves sex that doesn t create life. In the case of Judaism, a key Bible passage is the story of Onan (Links to an external site.), who sleeps with his dead brother s wife but, to avoid giving his brother offspring, doesn t ejaculate inside her. Instead, he spilt the seed on the ground. God slew him, which some might view as a sign of disapproval (Links to an external site.).The Catholic catechism decries (Links to an external site.) homosexual acts because they close the sexual act to the gift of life. Early American antisodomy laws discouraged all forms of non procreative sex (including, incidentally, heterosexual oral and anal sex). Islam shares a similar view. One Islamic hadith explains that Allah will not look at the man who commits sodomy with a man or a woman. But if non procreative sex is the issue, society started down the slippery slope not with the recent Supreme Court ruling but with production of the pill or, really, even earlier, when birth control became common. We ve been into the non procreative sex thing for some time now. Even most religious conservatives don t have the heart to go after this. All together, Parameswaran s article is well researched as she refers to a variety of sources as she transitions from one topic to the next. She cites information from many different sources to support her overall stance but sometimes uses too many quotations. Although there is not a rule about how many sources one should use in their academic writing, one can argue that Parameswaran s article is mostly composed of source information, rather than composing her stance with her own voice. Because the use of sources is overpowering, her writing becomes overwhelming for readers because they are not getting the author s point of view on the issue. Parameswaran states that as students learn about issues of discrimination, they begin to reexamine their values. At times, the reexamination leads students who belong to dominant groups to feel guilty and accuse people who belong to underrepresented groups of reverse racism (qtd. in Parameswaran 5). An example of a source Parameswaran overuses is information from Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, a psychologist and author who focuses on race in education, and expands on reverse racism. Tautm s book discusses how students learn about Whites who were and/or are racists. Parameswaran reiterates Tatum s ideas by stating that most students can name people who hold racist values, but cannot recall any White individuals who fought against racial prejudice. According to Tatum, this is one reason that White ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As important as the Church of the Savor on Blood was and still is important to Russia, Jacques Louis David was important to revolutionary France. He lived in a very turbulent time in France s history. He was a passionate supporter of French Revolution and the idea of overthrowing the monarchy. As a French revolution came closer to reality, David turned away from a typical classical subject that he was trained to paint and turned his brushes and an imagination towards depicting political events that were surrounding him and France. This woman s face is the only important part of her. The slogan of the ad is a miracle sleeping cream/for more rested, younger looking skin, which is relaying a message that beauty is for the young and that their product performs miracles. Additionally, it suggests that staying young and beautiful are synonymous as well as a job that a woman has to work at even when they are unconscious because youth/beauty is a 24 hour obsession. There is no real testing or laws surrounding these products and how they are advertised. At least none that I can find. • 13. Theme Of The Hypocrite The play begins with a household in disarray, and the central themes of morality and religion are immediately apparent. The play s initial conflict is based around Madame Pernell s insistence that her son s household is insufficiently pious. It is worth noting that for Moliere s society, religion and morality were not considered separate virtues, but rather dependent ones. The initial conflict centers on Tartuffe (Played by Dalton Grafton), who is already established as a central character even though he does not enter until Act III. It is obviously improper to allow an elderly family member to leave the home unsatisfied, but everyone is flabbergasted about how to answer her charges, precisely because they do not understand the obsession with Tartuffe. Part of the older woman s problem is that she takes Tartuffe at face value because he expresses piety, he is a model of piety. Because her family does not express such piety, and dares to challenge Tartuffe s expressions of it, they are impious. The irony for the audience lies in our awareness that she is turning from her family in the name of religion, while they are desperately trying to placate her. By the time she exits at the end of Scene I, the import of the play s subtitle The Hypocrite is extremely clear, and the conflict between appearance and reality is well established. Dorine (played by the Elise Marshall) is established as the arguably strongest character even in this first scene. Though she is a servant, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will also be showing some features of their culture, considering the iroquois are not well known in the western United States, and discussing the fall of the once great tribes. The main reason I ve chosen the Iroquois is because of my own prior knowledge of the Iroquois, and their relationship to lacrosse. I started playing lacrosse my freshman year of highschool. The very first thing I learned, before any stick skills or any basics of the game, was the history of it. Our coach insisted that we knew the history and the culture of the game, and that we respected it. I was intrigued by how interesting the game was. The game was made as a form of war. Lacrosse was sometimes even referred to as Little brother of war . It would be called this because injury, even death were common during a lacrosse game. When two tribes had a disagreement, but didn t feel the need to have a legitimate war, the opposing tribes would send their best warriors to the battlefield and play a lacrosse game. Hebraic Monarchy In Israel The year of approximately 1051 B.C. of the United Kingdom Period of Israel was a significant year in that it was marked by a shift in the Hebrew view of God and his position over their nation (Hindson and Yates, 2010). For centuries prior to this date, the Hebrew people not only dwelled under the theocratic institutes of Yahweh, but for a time, also viewed him as their supreme leader and judge (Johnson, 2012). For a brief time, Solomon followed in the footsteps of his father, and exemplified righteousness, wisdom, and spiritual fervor in every action he undertook. As a result of his actions, the Lord blessed his endeavors and the kingdom of Israel thrived and prospered under his jurisdiction. However, Solomon had one great weakness: a love of women. Due to this obsession with women, Solomon took many wives, most of whom were pagan and had no love for Yahweh or his statues (Maller, 2011). Sadly, his love for his many pagan wives gradually led Solomon astray, resulting in his adoption of much of their pagan religious views (1 Kings 11:3 6). Although he is described as still acknowledging the Lord, his heart was no longer as devoted to the will of God as it had formerly been, and Jehovah Jireh had become only one out of the host of other gods to be worshiped (Hindson and Yates, 2010). The Lord, displeased and grieved by Solomon s infidelity, warned Solomon that as a result of his ungodliness and unfaithfulness, his kingdom would be torn from his descendants and given to another. That is, his land would be divided and bestowed upon another individual not of the house of David and the once united nation of Israel, would now fall prey to great disunity, incessant war, and bitter rivalries, all as a result of Solomon s failure to maintain an upright spirit before his God (Maller, ... The Epidemic Of The Obesity Epidemic Essay Introduction The World Health Organization (WHO) defines obesity as the excessive accumulation of fat that puts the person s health at risk (Lenzi et al., 2015). The prevalence of obesity has increased worldwide over the past three decades. According to Holtz (2016), obese people have outnumbered the undernourished, with the World Health Organization estimating that 1.9 billion adults are overweight, out of which about 600 million are obese. Given the recent trends, it is estimated that 1.12 billion people will be obese by 2030 (Grossschädl, 2014). According to a report by the McKinsey Global Institute, 2014), the global impact of the obesity epidemic is estimated to be $20 trillion, or 2.8 percent of the global gross domestic product (GDP), which is on a par with the global impact from terrorism, armed violence, smoking, and warfare. Setting the Context Presently, the toll of the epidemic on healthcare systems alone is between 2 percent and seven percent of net healthcare spending in industrialized economies, excluding the huge costs associated with the treatment of heart disease and type 2 diabetes that account for up to twenty percent of healthcare costs (Bassuk Manson, 2008; Alosco et al., 2015). Takeda also uses the lines themselves in various interesting ways. Whenever there is a flashback scene, the divisions are black, unlike the current events in which they are white. In addition, during her forced recollection of Constantine in Chapter Six, the lines are both black and blurred, showing that this memory is less clear than the others. Analysis Of Donald Super s Life Span Assignment 1: Theory Selection Paper Misty Mitchell CNDV 5323 Career Development Lamar University Introduction of theory Author(s) The theory I connect with the most is Donald Super s life span, life space theory. Donald Super devised a developmental stage theory involving one s personal growth, acquisition of skills, and general development towards working. Super created a useful framework for conceptualizing the constantly evolving nature of career development. The theory presents the career process as one in which a person is confronted with various stages that he or she must undergo and complete before moving on to the next stage. Details According to Niles Harris (2013), Donald Super developed his theory segmentally. There is no Super s theory ; there is just the assemblage of theories that Super sought to synthesize. The result is really a segmental theory describing three key aspects of career development: (a) life span, (b) life space, and (c) self concept. The theory culminates in an intervention model labeled as the Career Development Assessment and Counseling (C DAC) model. The Life span, life space theory has a focus on self concept. It is believed that career development is a continuous, life long process. Television has become a major power in our culture. It is our way to watch the news, hear the weather forecast, and to sit down and relax watching our favorite show or movie. But is the television really that good for our society? In 1884 the first ideas of the television came to an inventor by the name of Paul Nipkow. During the patent battle he fired his fellow lab workers and rehired them many times. This was due not only to financial troubles, but of his lack of confidence in his control in the company. RCA in the meantime had begun their investment in the idea of the television. Before 1939 the Radio Corporation of America had dumped over ten million dollars into the development of the television. At the 1939 World s Fair in New York, Sarnoff spoke on behalf of RCA and said that they would launch commercial television. This was an understatement for the time though as the Radio Corporation of America s camera was not yet ready, and the corporation had yet to own a patent on the television. RCA later in 1939 had to pay patent royalties to Farnsworth s company, which made Farnsworth part of the television scene. But Farnsworth now realized that the situation was out of his hands and into businessmen s hands. He sold off his company after World War II. Subprime lending contribute to increase the housing demand. This fueled rising house prices. This housing bubble resulted in quite a few homeowners refinancing their homes at lower interest rates. This led to a building boom. Easy credit encouraged borrowers to obtain ARM. If borrowers could not make the payments ,they would try to refinance. Refinancing became more difficult, when house prices began to decline in USA. Borrowers found themselves unable to afford higher monthly payments ,then default. This places downward pressure on housing prices. 2、Speculation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ⅱ Explain how the subprime crisis of the US spreads to the whole world? The subprime mortgage crisis is an ongoing financial crisis triggered by a dramatic rise in mortgage delinquencies and foreclosures in the United States, with major adverse consequences for banks and financial markets around the globe. Apart from the fact that banks based in other parts of the world also suffered losses from the subprime market, there are two major ways in which the effect is felt across the globe. First, the US is the biggest borrower in the world since most countries hold their foreign exchange reserves in dollars and invest them in US securities. Thus, any crisis in the US has a direct bearing on other countries, particularly those with large reserves like Japan, China and so on. Also, since global equity markets are closely interlinked through institutional investors, financial crisis affecting these investors sees a contagion effect throughout the world. The panic psychology takes over and a large number of people cash in their chips. This disturbs global financial market further. For emerging market countries, in the first place, the crisis derived from the setback in exports of goods and services to the European and American countries, but not the collapse of the banking system. People claims that the model of crisis transmission in USA is from virtual economy to real economy, however, the harsh ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. A Brief Note On The South Territory Of Australia In the Northern Territory of Australia, almost one third of the population is Aboriginal. They also own almost half the land in the territory, mostly as communities. Most of these communities are very remote, which doesn t leave very many options for economic growth and development because of limited infrastructure, environments not conducive to normal agriculture, and the education levels in regards to reading and math are low (Gorman). Because of this, many of the communities there are struggling financially, many of the people depending on welfare. Additionally, many of the public funds that are going to help the indigenous people in Australia are going to the larger communities, instead of the smaller, more remote ones (Koenig). Because of this, the people in these remote communities are having to find new ways to provide for themselves as the world changes around them. In the past, the Aboriginals were primarily foragers. They hunted and gathered the resources around them. As the country has changed, cutting down on the amount of land they have available, and the resources on it, they have had to find new ways to supplement this with other ways to survive and thrive, often selling different forms of art, or allowing outside companies access to their land to mine minerals for a fee. Several communities have also started small scale companies that are using local plants in different ways, such as food, food additives, and botanical medicines (Gorman). ... It all started on a saturday night and one friends house when we had all ran out of ideas on what to do. It was around midnight and we had ran out of things to do so another friend Lacey suggested Let s do the Bloody Mary Ritual. When Lacey suggested this I was for sure it was fake I just thought it was something people told little kids to make them scared. We lit a candle and all of us stared at the mirror in the bathroom and waited patiently. Finally I said Nothing s happening. Let s just get out of here. I reached for the doorknob but it was locked, but no one locked it, at this point we knew someone or something was holding the door shut. • 34. Difference Between Homeland Security And Homeland Security Homeland Security and Homeland Defense are two concepts that will have intersecting missions combined with parallel directives and even sometimes competing objectives. While the concept of Homeland Security and Homeland Security will be explored with greater depth later, the question is how does Homeland Security and Homeland Defense both protect critical national infrastructure. How do these two different missions both compete and complement one another in their efforts to protect those vulnerable infrastructure elements to ensure they remain safe and away from those who would want to do harm in an effort to create widespread terror and even disable or disorient our national defense. Homeland Defense refers to the guarding of national sovereignty, of protecting actual territory and the population contained within against external threats. The mission of this defense has been traditionally been charged to groups like the National Guard with what is referred to as Title 32 duty from the state National Guard troops. This allows personnel with traditional military training to perform many necessary duties to the homeland defense mission without ever running afoul of the Posse Comitatus Act. Posse Comitatus basically restricts the military from performing and domestic law or policy enforcement. While the act only specifically refers to the Army, and then the Air Force was also amended to be a party to the law in 1956, the Navy and Marines also adhere to the rules by ... In the modern age we now live, every individual should have equal rights. Theoretically we do, but technically there are still areas of inequality, specifically in business management. Women are facing difficulties in advancing to leadership positions within most fields, especially in Fortune 500 companies. Female leaders continually face difficulties both when inquiring decision making positions as well as while in leadership roles. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chemers perceived that there are three theoretical explanations for the main differences between male and female leadership. One difference, the most obvious, is biological differences, which is based around hormones and temperament. The second difference is culturally diversities. This tells that socialized roles are varied per culture. The final difference is structurally determined. The different sexs have very diverse organizational structures (Eagly, Makhijani, Klonsky, 1992; Chemers, 2000). Placing practical differences aside, the essential problem with women leadership roles is actually seen in the attitudes of those around them. The attitudes people have towards women when they are the ones making decisions are a perception with no objectivity, formally known as a stereotype. Stereotyping is one of the main obstacles women endure in their leadership positions. Gender Role Theory is the development of expectations people create of their own and others behavior based on the beliefs about what is appropriate for both male and females. For example, if a female were to pull out a man s chair at a restaurant before seating herself or open his car door before getting in the car, that would be found as odd behavior for a women. ... However, pieces of the original piece, which originated in the Catalan chapel in Spain, have faded. Portions, especially along the bottom, have disappeared over time. Even though historians moved it to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, it has not been fully restored. The artist identified each of the apostles in the Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four Evangelists, but the writing has grown fainter and this creates a difficulty for art historians. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four Evangelists uses an interesting technique in its apse, compared to previous Byzantine decorations in apses. It incorporates the technique of fresco painting, where artists painted pigments into the plaster and wood on the walls so the paint would become one with the walls similar to methods used in ancient Greece, compared to exercising mosaics as decorations in apses. The artist mostly employed primary pigments in the Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four Evangelists to make the figures stand out. A repetition occurs in the pigments with red, gold like yellow, and blue with the occasional purple and the hair colors vary with tones of brown and grayish white. The style portrayed in the Christ in Majesty with Symbols of the Four Evangelists follows previous rules with the representation of divine figures in churches. The proportions of the piece utilizes the hierarchy scale with the most important figure Christ. The figure of Christ is the largest image shown in the apse, and other figures such as the apostles, the four symbols of the evangelists, and the scenes from the New Testament are roughly the same size. The smallest figures appear in the windows the sacrifice scenes with Cain and Abel. The artist employed a more decorative aspect to the drapery of the figures than a naturalistic ... • 37. St. Boniface and Catholicism in Germany Prior to the work of St. Boniface in central Germany from 716 to 754 A.D., the local Hessian and Thuringian people worshiped pagan gods and honored living things essential to daily life, such as the oak trees of the surrounding forests, which provided everything from building materials to nuts for food. Though Christianity had been introduced to this area, the current practice was actually heresy because people practiced a blend of Christian and pagan beliefs and rituals. St. Boniface not only returned Catholicism to Germany, but kept heresy, the Church s main challenge during this time period, out of central Germany. St. Boniface s goal was to expand the Catholic Church in Germany, making certain that that the political authorities were firmly committed to Christianity. He went further, and was not only Pope Gregory s missionary to Germany, but also purified the faith of the people, removing the culturally ingrained practices of paganism. During this time period, some Germans didn t fully understand Christianity, and although many in Upper Hesse converted, they still practiced their old pagan rituals. St. Boniface built schools and seminaries in Upper Hesse. The area fully converted to Catholicism thanks to the teachings of faithful priests and teachers who were brought in by Boniface to teach the full truth of the Catholic Church without aspects of the old pagan beliefs or rituals included. With the recent use of CGI in movies, anything has become possible. The use for practical effects is minimal to nearly non existent since Jurassic Park and Terminator 2 first showed the wide spectrum of what was possible. It is increasingly common for films to focus more on the visual effects, than the story of the film itself. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his article, Swine Flu Vaccine: What Is Fair?, Gostin points out that rich countries in general will probably use their vastly superior spending power to acquire vaccines. Stockpiling by the rich, of course, leaves poor countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America much more vulnerable (11). After all, everyone needs to be protected from the dangers of H1N1 Influenza throughout the world and income should not play a role in who is vaccinated. It is a reality that every individual is just as important as the next and should have a fair chance at a vaccination. Organizations are creating the vaccines with the idea of profit in mind and this is not fair to the poorer countries around the globe. Wealthy countries are definitely more likely to acquire vaccinations in relation to poorer ones. Second, it is advisable that everyone should get vaccinated against H1N1 Influenza because it can prevent the Swine Flu from spreading any further. If the entire world s population was vaccinated against the Swine Flu, this would result in the complete control of the virus. We need to stop H1N1 Influenza in its tracks and protect all citizens from the flu regardless of their income or social class. Gostin observes that President Obama plans to spend a minuscule $350 million of Swine Flu resources for global health and child survival, and two thirds of that sum will go to ... The United States has many different ups and downs but one has an upside and a downside. I m talking about the Transcontinental Railroad. The Transcontinental Railroad was the first railway to go across the country. One of the complications of the railroad was that the government forcefully moved the Native Americans to reservations. Ways they got natives to go to the reservations was though taking their land, killing buffalo, and forcefully taking them. To the settlers manifest destiny was more important than Indian lives. They took Native land to make to make what they thought was more important(Doc 3). By taking the Natives land they are giving them a chance at owning the land and citizenship. But many of the Native people didn t have the money to buy the land they live on. Ways they killed buffalo was the tracks stopped them from migrating, the settlers killed them for sport, and trains hit them. The Indians kept harassing the train workers to try and get them to stop building the track so the buffalo can migrate (Doc 2). By killing buffalo the natives would starve and have no reason to stay there. But not all of the effects of the railroad are bad. Some of the good effects are people didn t have to go around the continent to go to California. Before they had to go around the tip of Central America. Jeffery, CEO of Nestle Waters North company, made this comment in representation of the largest leader in the bottled water industry. It is no wonder how bottled water became so popular in our society. Healthier than soda, bottled water is conveniently stored in a lightweight, disposable, plastic bottle. Bottled water sales started when Perrier glass bottled water came overseas to America in the late 1970 s and in 1989, water was available in PET plastic bottles (Tapped). Now everywhere, bottled water can even be found in high school cafeterias while there are water fountains located in nearly every hall. However, there is an opposing view to the product with names such as Ice Mountain, Aquafina, Dasani, Sam s Choice, and Acadia. Through research, bottled water is known to carry human pollutants, exceed other natural resource costs, and take part in a large portion of plastic waste, all in a sixteen ounce plastic bottle. Although bottled water is convenient in only a few cases, public education and legislation are necessary because of the human pollutants, costs, and waste. Bottled water is becoming such a growing industry because it does show to be convenient in some cases. As Kim E.
