The Farm of Many Faces Polyface Farm is a sustainable, organic based farm located in
Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. It currently is run by four generations of the Salatin family, but the
man with the most influence is Joel Salatin, who was named the worlds most innovative famer by
Time Magazine. Joel and his family took some extremely eroded and worn out land and
transformed it into the innovative, high field, symbiotic based farm it is today through their
unconventional ways. Today they serve upwards to 6000 families, 25 restaurants, and 10 retail

The Nearing s weren t too big on the idea of feeding the community as much as they were in to
self sufficiency, but they did heavily rely on the natural system with in their way of life; planning
everything according to seasons and relying on organics. They also believed in the importance of
educating on the subject and allowed people to come, stay, and learn, just like the Salatins. The
Essex Farm has much more in common principles wise. Kristen and Mark s goal was that they
wanted to feed their community good, clean, healthy food, just like the Salatins. Kristen and Mark
achieved this through sustainable practices and dedication to what they love. They maintained their
CSA without advertisement and also focused on the importance of soil health just like the Polyface

not as simple as African Americans are poorer than White Americans. While the statement is true, it

Everyone grows. Growth as well as loss of innocence protrude throughout every human being,
changing each. Everyday men, women, and children grow, but some days more than others.
One such day was that of my great grandmother s death. My grandma had been only nine years
old when her mother died of cancer. Having no other older siblings and a working father, my
grief filled grandmother, left with no option, had to quit school and learn to cook and clean for

In the article of the Overprotected Kid written by Hanna Rosin, gives some informational stuff to
think back on and all the way to present time. The article gives you something to think about
especially with playgrounds and world around us. One that amazed me was about how everything
seemed so creative back in the day. They would use stuff as play items that I never even imaged
would be fun. Such as stated in the article, doing mad flips on a stack of filthy mattresses, which
makes a fine trampoline. At the other end of the playground, a dozen or so of the younger kids dart
in and out of large structures made up of wooden pallets stacked on top of one another. Reading
this part, I was like wow for people that left stuff laying around got kids make a use out of it. I
