2. Eva Longora Case Study In Criminal Justice Case
Eva Longora has a case in regards to public slander because the statements made against her are an
embarrassment to her and are defaming as a public figure. Due to there being a serious crime
involving Eva s moral turpitude the news caster projected. San Antonio is a positive, loving city and is
protective of the Spurs. That is not an excuse for a respected public figure on an elevated platform did
slander Ms. Longoria; she has the right to be angry with the newscaster. The comments more than
likely provided a generous amount of negative publicity for Eva during the time of the slander.
However, while there is evidence that Tony Parkers performance declined when his wife attended
playoff games, the case of slander is valid. Secondly, In regards as to communicate that exposes a
plaintiff to ridicule. Yes, there is open ridicule for the city and other fans to express. However, there is
nothing more than bad publicity and tabloids. Which leads to number three: the comments are not

3. Optic Neuritis Case Studies
Optic Neuritis
Introduction
Optic neuritis (ON) is a disease related to the eye that causes visual impairment. ON arises due to the
inflammation and demyelination of the optic nerve, affecting interpretation of visual signals causing
blurred, grey or dim vision. More often than not, ON is monocular in scope however there are cases
where both eyes are affected. ON has been known to be highly associated with Multiple Sclerosis
(MS) however an individual does not have to have MS to be diagnosed with ON. 81
Epidemiology and Pathology
Optic Neuritis has been found to persist more commonly in young healthy adults, with females having
a higher incidence rate than males. ON is the most common optic neuropathy in individuals under the
age of 50 years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Acute ON usually involves a singular eye being affected whereby 90% of ON cases take place; the
other 10% of cases occurring in both eyes is found to occur more frequently in children under the age
of 15. The Optic Neuritis Treatment Trials (ONTT) identified vision loss and eye pain as the most
common symptoms found in patients with acute unilateral ON. Vision loss was found to occur steadily
over a period of a few hours to a few days, with a peak in between 1 2 weeks, whilst eye pain occurred
in 92% of those affected and would worsen through eye movement. These visual defects however
would usually resolve itself with care, with the ONTT presenting 56% of participants being clear after
one year and 73% cleared after 10 (Cleary et al., 1997). In other cases, a patient may become affected
with papillitis (intraocular ON) causing hyperemia leading to the swelling of the optic disc; a point of
exit for optic ganglion cells. This area is important for the major blood vessels to supply the retina and
thus aid in interpreting visual signals to be passed through the optic nerve into the brain.

4. Essay about Humans Must Adapt to Global Warming
No one in the scientific community would argue with the premise that the earth s climate has changed
over the eons of its existence or that it will continue to change. The arguments now revolve around if
mankind s use of the environment has specifically altered our climate.
Scientists have described our world as a clump of matter that spun out of the sun to join its journey
hurling though cold and empty space. Our spaceship earth would match the moon and have no climate
had not molten core continued to pierce its cold crust, spewing forth chemicals that would eventually
form our atmosphere, our seas and life itself ( Mcphee ).
The geological record shows a tumultuous earth, but because the events occur slowly over millions of

perpetuates the discourse that the entire prison system is unnecessary, harmful and fundamentally
structured upon racist ideologies. Davis, a prominent American abolitionist activist, systematically
evaluates the prison industrial complex in relation to a multitude of discourses such as its history, the
racist ideologies and gender constructs it enforces, and

7. The Importance Of Body Temperature And Thermoregulation
The human body is capable of many checks and balances throughout the numerous systems. From
fluid and electrolytes, perfusion, to skin integrity the body can auto regulate and maintain balance,
while assisting thermoregulation of the body. Thermoregulation is controlled by the hypothalamus,
which is considered the thermostat center of the body (Giddens 88).
The normal body temperature is 97 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Any influence of extreme
environmental conditions, intense exercise, disease or infection that allow the body temperature to
waver from the normal core temperature can affect thermoregulation. Hypothermia occurs when the
body temperature decreases below 97 degrees, hyperthermia is when body temperature is in excess of
100 degrees. The ideal goal for all ages would be normothermia, which is the normal range of 97 to
100 degrees Fahrenheit.
By teaching the older that their decreased ability of regulating their body temperature will affect their
thermoregulation. By educating them of their inability to sweat efficiently, declined circulation, and a
decreased vasoconstrictive response to shivering, and slower metabolic rate all hinder their
thermoregulation. Teaching would consist of adjusting clothing and attire according to the outside
temperature, or if they stay indoors to set their indoor thermometer to 72 degrees. If they do not have
air conditioning to keep windows open and a fan blowing. Dress in layers in colder temperatures and

10. How Did Hip Hop Influence Popular Culture
From a concrete bed, a rose grew Hip Hop. One of the most influential art forms in popular culture
today, arose from a place where little seemed to escape. Hip Hop emerged from the South Bronx
around the 1970s (Alridge and Stewart 190). In a collision between gangs, drugs, and poverty, a new
form of self expression was created. Artists would rhyme lyrics over a DJ scratching beats and music,
creating what is now called rap. Since its beginnings, Hip Hop has encompassed not just a musical
genre, but also a style of dress, dialect and language... (Alridge and Stewart 190). Hip Hop did not just
bring music to the ears of listeners, but with it, a new culture emerged. It became a way of life for its
listeners. Hip Hop influenced, the lives of urban youth, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These brands became possible because of the extreme levels of success, as explained by Tasha Lewis
Natalie Gray: In the 1990s, the arrival of some of hip hop s music executives and artists, like Russell
Simmons, Sean Diddy Combs and Jay Z, to great levels of wealth and entrepreneurship allowed for
the creation of apparel brands that fed the demand for the Hip Hop fashion aesthetic that had long
been creatively mixed with designer labels and urban fashion trends by its wearers (230). Theses
entrepreneurs arrived on the scene with clothing brands like Cross Colours and Karl Kanai. Before
these brands, no retail stores were specifically catering to hip hop consumers. When these brands
arrived, Hip Hop culture was woven together and the term urban was coined to describe Hip Hop
culture and brands. A sense of community formed. The brands that outfitted urban customers were
created by people from similar backgrounds. Hip Hops biggest and most influential stars, like Jay Z
and Tupac, were wearing urban brands (figure 1). To supply the demand, more brands, like Fubu

11. The Factors And Roles Of The Stanford Prison Experiment
Not everything goes according to plan. At Stanford University, an experiment was conducted by a
psychology professor, infamously known as the Stanford prison experiment. The research was based
and held in a prison setting with 24 recruited individuals who were then appointed as either inmates or
guards, the operation was planned for two weeks as well as rules that were meant to be followed.
What would be the fundamental purpose of experimenting with this, why did the head researcher want
to conduct this experiment, how did the use affect the outcome? Why would someone run an
experiment like this? The purpose was to understand the development of norms and the effects of
roles, labels, and social expectations in a simulated prison environment (Zimbardo, 1971). With the
exercise, the researchers were able to investigate how realistic the 24 individuals fit into their roles.
With the participants playing into their roles it would hopefully demonstrate a specific analysis of the
situation, as well as the difficulties and hardships between guards and prisoners within United States
Navy and the United States Marine Corps (Zimbardo,1971). With the funding of the experiment
coming from the U.S. Office of Naval Research, the participants were paid $15 per day. The money
compensation gave the individuals a reason to take this experiment seriously because back at that time
$15 would approximately be $90 in 2017. (Banks,1973). Although the experiment had multiple

14. Analysis Of Bruno Bettelheim s Beauty And The Beast
Bruno Bettelheim, he analyzed fairy tales in terms of Freudian psychology, which is represented in his
works of The Uses of Enchantment. Beaumont s story of Beauty and the Beast is where the first
discovery of Beauty s problem was identified as the Oedipal complex. The Oedipal complex is a child
s desire to have a sexual relation with the parent of the opposite sex, but it is repressed deep in the
mind. Beauty in Beauty and the Beast has a special bond of affection with her father; there is the
problem that arises within this complex that what if she were to be stuck at the stage of development
and never outgrow it. Within the fairy tale written by Jeanne Marie Beaumont there is the
representation of the period where she begins to transfer the affection to someone else. An analysis of
Bettelheim s theory of the Oedipal complex reveals psychological problems of growing up in the
written fairy tale and Disney adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. Bettelheim s theory is centralized on
his argument of the importance of fairy tales on a child s development. This argument was proposed
through The Uses of Enchantment, he suggested that fairy tales provided images to the children and
with these images they could structure a better direction to one s life. Bruno Bettelheim felt that the
use of fairy tales for child s development represented good versus evil clearly, these stories helped

Osmosis in a Decalcified Egg to Determine the Glucose Content of an Egg
Tovah King

7/5/2017
Abstract: Diffusion is the transfer of molecules from an area that has a higher concentration to an area
that has a lower concentration. Osmosis is the diffusion of water. The purpose of this experiment was
to study the process of osmosis. In order to test osmosis, eggs that had been soaking in vinegar were
taken and placed in four beakers of solution with different levels of glucose. Using this experiment we
were able to determine the rate of osmosis of different solutions, with various amounts of glucose,
through eggs. In the results of this lab it was found that the eggs were either hypertonic or hypotonic
and that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The eggs were each individually placed in one of the beakers and were taken out and weighed every
15 minutes for 60 minutes. Weighing the eggs helped to test the process of osmosis by finding out the
mass before and after soaking in water, this will dictate whether water has moved in or out of the egg.
Materials and Methods Procedure is found on pages 235 to 236 in the BIOL 110 Lab Manual.
Results
Four eggs that were previously soaked in vinegar were placed into four beakers with different levels of
a glucose solution. The four beakers were filled with distilled water, 0.5M glucose, 1.5M glucose and
2.0M glucose. After the eggs were placed in the solutions, they were left for 60 minutes but weighed
every 15 minutes to record whether there was an increase or a decrease in mass. The various masses
were recorded as well as the percent change in mass. These were then recorded as line graphs. From
this it was able to be determined if the egg had been in a hypotonic, hypertonic or isotonic solution,
thus being able to determine if osmosis had occurred.
Conclusion When the 4 eggs were weighed it was found that out of the 4 solutions, 2 were hypotonic
and 2 were hypertonic. The mass of 2 of the eggs increased and the other 2 decreased after 60 minutes
in the various solutions. Out of the 4, the most hypotonic solution was the distilled water; and the most
hypertonic solution was the solution with 2.0M glucose. The

is supposed to be a place where ida s and thoughts flow freely. Second, uniforms can be expensive.
Short of getting corporate sponsors appropriate for schooling, parents would have to pay for the
uniforms which can be cost prohibitive for some families. I believe that school uniforms don t reduce

21. Qualitative Interview Essay
Ahead of our call, here is an outline of our initial thinking on themes and issues to explore in the
qualitative interviews. This is based on our thinking to date about the aims the project and our reading
of your existing research.
It would be useful to get your take on the ideas, and then we can turn these into a discussion guide for
the interviews.
Overall thoughts
It is worth flagging a few overall points and observations:
This research needs to balance your larger, company wide goal overcoming negativity toward for
profit companies working in the education field with dynamics present in your local, target areas.
Pearson s existing research covers many motifs and values, from the importance of digital learning
to how Pearson s scale can be leveraged to strengthen its brand. In this research, we should attempt to
tease out which of these concepts work or has been changed given recent political events, like Brexit.
We are conscious of how recent events, like the Every Student Achieves acts or presidential
campaign, might impact perceptions in the current education field for the foreseeable future. We will
need to understand these current perceptions, as well as future and past views about the role of for
profits in education.
We need to ensure a number of questions can replicated across our different research instruments
and targets, to quantify them and allow for more holistic analysis.

22. Analysis Of Snow Midsummer And Hroswit s Martyrdom Of...
Femininity is a concept whose attributes are contingent on the culture it is in what one culture may
consider typically feminine traits could largely vary from what another culture views as being
feminine. While theater can sometimes subvert theses ideals and present women who function in ways
that are not typically feminine, theater can often present idealistic representations of women who
exemplify that culture s ideals of femininity. Take, for example, the female characters in both Guan
Hanqing s Snow in Midsummer and Hroswit s Martyrdom of the Holy Virgins. While both texts come
from largely different cultural contexts Snow in Midsummer was written in thirteenth century China
for a general population whereas Martyrdom of the Holy Virgins was written in tenth century
Germany as a closet drama both texts have female protagonists whose rebellions exemplify feminine
ideals of the respective cultures. In Snow in Midsummer, Dou E seems to be a figure that rebels
against patriarchal pressures in that she refuses to be bullied by Zhang and his father. However, her
rebellious attitude is deemed as gender appropriate in this play because her rebellion is fueled by
cultural ideals that relate to patriarchal power, rather than Dou E s resistance being rooted in her own
sense of empowerment. At first, Dou E s resistance to Zhang seems as though it is based on her own
personal preference to not marry Zhang. However, as Dou E begins to implore that her mother in law
not marry Zhang s

23. Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands Essay
Tim Burton s Edward Scissorhands
Tim Burton s only accomplishment in Edward Scissorhands was creating a hackneyed version if
Beauty and the Beast set in middle suburbia. Major innovations were made in entertaining the eyes for
about two hours with contrasting scenery and 1950 s style home décor. Burton in collaboration with
Caroline Thompson, created a tale about an alluring, and uncooperative beauty and a beast who falls
in love with her. Predictably, the beast Edward (Depp), possesses innocence, peace, and all those
qualities that normally aren t expected for such a creature to have. Additionally, the beauty Kim
(Ryder) is the one of the few who can see through Edward s disguise.
Set in the 50 s in a seemingly nice suburban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edward has the face as they say only a mother could love and so both Peg and her husband (Arkin)
treat him as a normal adolescent while assuming his hands were a birth defect. He is soon discovered
when wonderful shrub work appear on the front lawns and gardens. Soon, Edward gains fame around
the community and his disability becomes a tool.
Burton s characters reflect the typical stereotypes about middle suburbia. Kim s parents are the typical
idealistic parents that believe anything can be fixed with a few dabs of facial cream and a good
helping of meatloaf. There is the curious little brother that becomes a nuisance as the beautiful sister
approaches her teens. The parents just hang back and see everything as just part of another phase like
ballerina lessons, and cowboys and Indians. Kim s boyfriend in the muscle head jock set for Harvard
with a rich dad going through a mid life crisis with a neo futuristic bachelor pad. The neighbors are
the typical nosey neighbors who fall into the Edward hair cut fad.
Much of the relationship between Kim and Edward revolves around the penetration of Edwards
psyche. As the creation of a mad scientist with the heart of gold, Edward in turn must have the
innocence of the child he meant to create. Much like Frankenstein, the true beauty of the monster is
hidden beneath the layer of physical horror and misunderstanding by the beholder. Burton explores the
debts of Edwards mind through his art because it

What is Feminism?
Before jumping headfirst right away into What is Feminism , the topic of terminology will come first
due to the importance terminologies can play when conveying a message. Feminism isn t the only
term used to describe this yen for equality that will be spoken of; in fact, there are many reprehensible,
repugnant, distasteful terms being substituted, fortunately, there are also still many guarding ones.
Those considered reprehensible: misandry movement and feminazi movement. Those considered
guarding: womanism, women s liberation, and sisterhood movement. Of course, the list goes on,

The Bloody Mary Ritual told by Bianca. I was the most affected in this story and here s why. It all
started on a saturday night and one friends house when we had all ran out of ideas on what to do. It
was around midnight and we had ran out of things to do so another friend Lacey suggested Let s do
the Bloody Mary Ritual. When Lacey suggested this I was for sure it was fake I just thought it was
something people told little kids to make them scared. We lit a candle and all of us stared at the mirror
in the bathroom and waited patiently. Finally I said Nothing s happening. Let s just get out of here. I
reached for the doorknob but it was locked, but no one locked it, at this point we knew someone or
something was holding the door shut. Suddenly, Alex (another girl at the sleepover) screamed and

Monday through friday South Meck is bustling with the activity of 3,030 students. My old high school
which continues to grow with every new school year is building the a second three story building to
house the influx of students. Along with the two large buildings there is an additional six buildings, a
gym, an auditorium, and three sets of trailers on either side of the school. Since there are so many kids
there are 5 different lunch times dedicated to certain buildings so that the chaos of each 20 minute
lunch period can be miniscule.
When I attended South Meck there was only three lunches, each 40 minutes long. This gave us plenty

Most of the kids either ate a lunch they brought from home or they purchased a bag of doritos from
the vendor that was between the 2 cafeteria rooms. Some students didn t eat lunch at all. The students
who ate the school lunch had to wait in a long, slow moving line which deterred many from eating it.
The kids separated into their friend groups which for the most part had moderate diversity with the
exception of one or two groups who remained predominantly their own respective race. One thing that
remained consistent between all of the lunches is that the cafeteria was always filled with students.
For this research, I asked one of my friends, Hannah, who still a student there to skype me in so I
could observe. We started to skype at the end of her class and I watched as her and other students
herded into the lunch building. She described what she witnessed as I paid close attention to the
screen. Many students were either speed walking or running toward the lunch lines while other rushed
to claim their spot in the cafeteria or hallway. Once all the spots are claimed in the cafeteria and on the

27. The Controversy Over Mark Twain s The Adventures of...
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is a controversial book that has raised heated
debates across America for the past century. It was ranked fifth most challenging books out of one
hundred in the 1990s (Chadwick 2). Although this book is a hot topic, it should remain on shelves, and
still be taught in schools. While Huck Finn seems to be only a book of satire, most want this book
banned because it is seen as highly racial. The reading of Huck Finn is humiliating to back students. It
contributes to low self esteem. Only the insensitive and often unwittingly racist teachers respond This
book is a classic (Washington post 6). The use of the word nigger upsets many black students and

The book is so comical, and lively all the way through. What makes this book so controversial is the
fact that the word nigger is used more than 200 times in the book, but Twain simply used the term as
they would back then. Can you say anyone dislikes Jim? No, we grow fond of him, perhaps love him.
The n word is not demining (Jones 154). Shelly Fisher Fishkin quotes, Huck Finn is the greatest anti
racist novel by an American writer today. This is proven in chapter XXXIV of Huck Finn when Huck
knew helping Jim may get them killed, but he chooses to try to make him a free man. The book
possesses good qualities, and morals. Huck could have turned Jim in; but kept him a secret and stayed
afloat the river of freedom. We can also learn that our society is not what is seems. Although everyone
is of Christian faith, they still own slaves, and are morally bad people. The novel presents a new
perspective on today s society and how it is still very much like Twain s time. The need to ban this
book from shelves and schools should stop. People need to start to embrace this book with meaning
and the humor it possesses. The Banned Books Week Club celebrates the First Amendment and the
freedom to read by posting a list of banned books that society should read, Huck Finn being 6th on the
list (Adler7). In schools teachers need to learn how to explain Twain instead of banning his works of
literature.

29. Essay on The Pros and Cons of Ethnographic Reflexivity
The Advantages and Limits of Ethnographic Reflexivity
Awareness of writing choices generates an appreciation of the reflexivity of ethnographic research.
Reflexivity involves the recognition that an account of reality does not simply mirror reality but rather
creates or constitutes as real in the first place whatever it describes. Thus the notion of reflexivity
recognizes that texts do not simply and transparently report an independent order of reality. Rather, the
texts themselves are implicated in the work of reality construction (Emerson et. al., 1995:213).
According to Robert M. Emerson and colleagues, reflexivity is a method in which the ethnographer is

In her ethnography she writes how she had to reconstruct her self in order to fit in to Japanese society.
She looked Japanese but she did not act the way a native Japanese would act. Her informants than
taught her how to act like a native and in this process she began to understand aspects of the Japanese
culture. She mentions:
These factors perhaps gave me a certain kind of participatory understanding of certain aspects of
Japanese society. It also meant that, once I became an active participant in various groups (family,
factory, etc.) my knowledge was circumscribed. For example, therefore did not have free access to
certain people, and I could not ask certain questions that a foreigner less aware of indelicacy could
have posed with impunity (84).
In forming a self in Japanese society she notes that one is more accessible to gaining further
understanding about the culture being studied. Thus, she critiques the traditional ethnographic
methods because she finds that older text make objective assumptions that are not necessary the reality
of a culture. The assumptions than are seen as the true reality and full understanding of a culture. On
the contrary, reflexivity implies that ethnographic knowledge is intrinsically incomplete and relative
(84). Thus she suggest, that the best path to studying cultures is to acknowledge our bias, assumptions
and that of our informants to trace the parameters, the

To be afraid is no less an innate behavior than to be hungry. To find relief we look to fill ourselves
with comfort and content, but there will always be hunger, and there will always be fear. We as human

We cannot escape the feeling of fear or its constant pestering, but we may control how we react to it.
Those affected by the unspeakable events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December of 2012

By identifying the cause of the problem at its roots, we are lead to believe that we may be able to stop
it before it sprouts. The murderer, in the case of the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre, was socially
awkward and reserved , as Ben Stein puts it in his article in The American Spectator (Stein). Perhaps
our killer had a similar background to many of our American youth. With increasing trends in teen
depression and suicide, and the implementation of more and more prescription anti depressants and
anxiety medications, there are adverse side effects. Peter Breggin, in an excerpt from his article on
Naturalnews.com, states that psychiatric drugs, including antidepressants, stimulants, and
tranquilizing sedatives, can cause violence (Breggin). While this assumption does hold true in some
cases, are we really to be blaming the drug for the acts of the human, already unstable and unreliable?
And are we to take a true monster like the Sandy Hook shooter and compare him to any troubled
young man, dealt a bad hand and struck with anxiety? Stein includes a quote from John R. Coyne, Jr.,
There is evil in the world. It s beyond mental illness, beyond gun control. It is evil (Stein). Perhaps to
blame the medication for an unspeakable crime is to blame a scapegoat for an act of pure and

31. 3 Day Clorie Intake Essay
Even before beginning this nutritional anthropology course, I have been interested in documenting my
daily calorie intake so documenting my process was not out of the norm for me regarding this
assignment. By doing this, I hope that by seeing that the nutritional balance of the food that I eat is not
good for me, I will eventually switch to a healthier diet. Through this assignment, I will reflect on my
consumption over a 3 day period, why I ate what I did and compare it to what we have learned
throughout the duration of the course.
From the beginning, I have always been told the number of calories for women should be around 1500
calories. However, we learned that the recommended calorie intake for women is actually 2000
calories per day which makes my daily intake already quite a bit lower than what it should be:

leads to lower levels of physical activity, and to a decreased capacity to perform physical work
(p.331). Unfortunately, I can already feel the beginnings of my malnutrition affecting me outside of

MDMA ( Ecstasy ) is a semi synthetic compound which can be made relatively easily from available

knowledge of chemistry. However, people with less than 2 years of college chemistry experience

The Leukart reaction is 2 step with lower yields and requires chemical apparatus.
There are also two synthetic methods which proceed directly from safrole rather than through
isosafrole. The first is the Ritter reaction which goes through the intermediate N acetyl MDA. The
Ritter reaction is time consuming, requires a degree of laboratory skill and produces poor yields. The
other method uses HBr to produce 3,4 methylenedioxyphenyl 2 bromopropane which is then
converted into MDA or MDMA. This scheme produces poor yields, and Dal Cason referenced the
australian journal _ANALOG_ where a hazard had been documented. It is, however, attractive for its
sheer simplicity. It requires no specialized chem equipment or reagents at all.
Beta nitroisosafrole is a less used precursor, but there is a large literature on the synthesis and
reduction of nitro alkenes. This synthetic route isn t as popular due to the easier availability of
precursors for MDP 2 P, and it also results in MDA which must then be further processed to give
MDMA or any other N alkyl homolog of MDA. There are numerous ways to convert beta
nitroisosafrole to MDA: LiAlH4, AlH3, electrolytic, Na(Hg), BH3 THF / NaBH4, Raney Ni catalyst,
Pd / BaSO4 catalyst, Zn (Hg). Beta nitroisosafrole, when used, is commonly synthesized from

what dangers it presents to human kind. Climate change refers to the variation in normal weather
