Comparing Venus And Ovid s Metamorphosis
Titan s inspiration of Adonis and Venus originated in the story of Ovid s Metamorphosis . Overall, it s
a love story between Goddess Venus and Adonis. The artwork display movement as Venus attempts to
stop Adonis from meeting his fate before he died hunting a boar while his dogs eagerly wait. His
interpretation took reference from Greek mythology and other mythical stories during the renaissance.
Nearly 100 years later, Rueben was inspired by Titan s original theme. Based on his composition and
the position of the lovers are strikingly similar. Despite the similarity, the different eras also cause
great contrasts on how each artist interprets their version.
Despite the similarity between themes, they display a great difference in views of ... Show more

Titan also treated landscape to be mountainous, which reached towards the top of the figures head. In
the meantime Rueben went for flat plains to occupy the backgrounds. Both artists were successful in
equalizing the composition and manipulation in the negative space. Yet Venus s body had her back
turned away from the viewers in Rueben while Titan cause Venus s body to face the opposite way. ,
Rueben influence of style goes towards baroque with softer tones on the skin along with the softness
of the textures including the hunting dog s fur and trees. Titan s influence clings from mannerism due
to the elongated bodies with little focus of the background using dull colors. Titan use dull values
mostly yellow and brown values for the mountains on the ground and clouds above everyone s

Waimanalo Research Paper
The key geological features played a significant role in creating Waimanalo. Waimanalo was formed
by a catastrophic landslide from the Nuuanu Pali all the way down to the coast and to the ending of
Makapu`u. Under the water lay debris and material from this landslide. In the 1960 s, the US Navy
first found out about this information by a single beam sonar surveying a utilized improved radio
navigation system. In the 1980 s, a multibeam side scan sonar, GLORIA, imaged in unprecedented
detail known landslides, and also discovered new ones. Then finally, came the JAMESTEC multibeam
profiler which surveys and utilized GPS navigation, produced detailed maps of the entire landslide for
the first time. Waimanalo was created by a catastrophic landslide that happened millions of years ago.

Using GIS in the Study of the Steel Industry
How GIS is used in the study case? The U.S. steel industry continues to face formidable competition
globally, especially from a costing, supply chain, and procurement perspective. The intensity of this
competition is forcing many steel producers to look for greater efficiencies form their own operations.
One of the most effective continues to be the streamlining how product, project, and process
information to create a unified system of record which can be used for knowledge management
(Armstrong, 2008). From an analysis of the readings in Using GIS Technology for Document and
Asset Management (Armstrong, 2008) it is apparent that visual representation of information and
knowledge taxonomies across the various locations of a U.S. Steel manufacturing plant are invaluable
in increasing efficiency and performance. These manufacturing centers often rely on a very broad set
of content based sources, information and knowledge all used for keeping each production machine
running efficiently while also ensuring that the steel mill workers have the information they need to do
their jobs. The case study is unique from a GIS perspective in that it combines the spatial data related
to documents and knowledge repositories throughout an enterprise to the workflows associated with
them. The myriad of data sources throughout any business have a high percentage of content
associated with location based intelligence as well (Armstrong, 2008). The case study shows how the
myriad of data,

Dna Damage, Repair, And Dna Methylation Essay
Introduction:
Modification of damaged DNA seems to be an understudied subject, there is much to understand on
the restoration of DNA damage, repair and DNA methylation. Genomic DNA can be modified by
methylation but much of it is affected on a gene when silenced. When epigenetic modification has
been implicated with cancer and aging it causes DNA methylation to also have an impact on the
double strand of DNA analysis. Modification as such provoke deteriorating changes like aging found
in multicellular organisms and DNA damage may magnify biochemical pathways that regulate a cells
growth or control DNA replication with DNA repair. In the article DNA Damage, Homology Directed
Repair, and DNA Methylation written by Concetta Cuozzo, Antonio Porcellini, Tiziana Angrisano, et
al. they hypothesize how DNA damage and gene silencing may induce a DNA double strand break
within a genome as well as when DNA methylation is induced by homologous recombination that it
may somewhat mark its reparation through a DNA segment and protect its cells against any
unregulated gene expression that may be followed by DNA damage. The experiments used to
demonstration how gene conversion can modify methylation pattern of repaired DNA and when that
occurs methylation is able to silence the recombined gene. When exploring the molecular mechanisms
that link DNA damage and the silencing gene then there is an induced double strand break that can be
found at a specific location or DNA sequence in where the

Diane Sawyer Interview
I am going to change the world. In 20 years there will be a Diane Sawyer interview with me. On my
office walls will be framed thank you letters and photographs of civic leaders and me. The million

extinct? Raised funds to provide clean water to third world country villages? Headed up a UN mission

the only thing that makes chills run down my body, gives me a rush of adrenaline with readiness and

Sleep And Slow Wave Sleep Essay
improves procedural memory, i.e. skills and procedures [1,2] as well as declarative memory [3]. REM
and slow wave sleep
(SWS) have been implicated in memory consolidation [3 5].
Lack of REM sleep is associated with poor recall of visual location [6]. Decline in declarative memory
consolidation is correlated with a decline in slow wave sleep [7]. Spencer et al. observed similar initial
procedural learning in older and younger adults; however, the older adults performance did not
improve following sleep, suggesting that sleep dependent memory consolidation decreases with age
[8]. This may reflect the disturbed sleep and disrupted SWS in the elderly [3,8,9]. Slow wave sleep
increases until shortly before puberty and then shows a prominent drop across adolescence, decreasing
by more than
60% between ages 10 and 20 years [10]. It is critical to understand the cognitive effects of normal
sleep in order to understand the consequences of disrupted sleep. This is important since the majority
of adolescents do not obtain the recommended amount of sleep and that disrupted sleep is a key
symptom in most adolescent psychiatric and developmental disorders [11].
Backhaus et al. studied twenty seven children with an average age of 10.1 years (range of nine to
twelve), on a learned word pairs list, employing a within subject design and two post learning
assessments. They found that declarative memory was significantly increased immediately after an
interval of sleep, as well as with

The Message Of Jesus Christ
But who do you say that I am? (Mark 8:29). This same question that was asked of Peter and the
disciples speaks within the heart of each person we share the Gospel message with. There comes a
point, at the crux of our catechesis, where the question, Who is Jesus? needs to be answered. At the
heart of catechesis we find, in essence, a Person, the Person of Jesus of Nazareth. (CT 5). This
compelling statement given by Pope John Paul II in his exhortation, Catechesi Tradendae, calls
catechists to always remember the purpose of catechesis. They are to help lead others, through loving
example and careful communication of doctrine, to meet a real Person, the Person of Jesus Christ and
foster a deeper union with the Blessed Trinity. To proclaim the message of Jesus Christ is vital to an
organic catechesis. As catechists, it is our vocation to bring others to know of the personal relationship
that God is seeking to have with each one of them. A relationship in any facet of the human life
requires conversation through both listening and responding. Our catechesis should be no different. As
Pope Francis states in Evangelii Gaudium, It is the message capable of responding to the desire for the
infinite which abides in every human heart (EG 165). As we actively listen to the word of God, we
should be cut to the heart (Acts 2:37) in the same way as those who heard Peter s Pentecost speech as
he boldly proclaimed the kerygma. Catechesis is not to be a teaching of each

Difference Between Wooden Motte And Bailey Castles
Because of a lack of a strong central government during feudal society, wars happened often. For
protection every noble built a castle. The first proper castles were built in England after the Norman
Conquest in 1066. Wooden motte and bailey castles were the first type of castle to be built in England.
The tower of the keep was built a huge mound called a motte and had an enclosed courtyard called a
bailey. It would have been very difficult to get up the sides of the motte because they were so steep. A
ditch dug around the bottom of the motte also added protection. The bailey was located at the bottom
of the motte and could be up to three acres. Followers of the lord who ran the castle lived inside the
bailey. There were many buildings in the bailey including bakeries, kitchens, houses, stables, and
living quarters for soldiers.
Motte and bailey castles were quick and easy to build. Some could even be finished in a couple of
weeks. However, wooden buildings caught on fire easily and stone structures were much stronger.
Because of this, motte and bailey castles were soon replaced with stone castles.

They had two or three walls around the keep. Because the inside walls were built higher than the
outside walls, defenders could shoot arrows over the heads of the soldiers defending the outside walls.
Even if an enemy broke though the outer walls, there was a second castle defended and with supplies
waiting for them. Known as the death hole, being trapped between two walls of a castle would result
in almost certain death for the attacker. Some concentric castles even had moats for more protection.
After the invention of gun powder concentric castles became even more popular because they could
withstand bullets while a wooden castle could

My Undergraduate Work At California Polytechnic State...
I chose to do my undergraduate work at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.
Cal Poly was affordable, strong in the sciences and well known for its Learn by Doing philosophy. I
received a phenomenal education in science and nutrition helping me feel prepared to begin graduate
studies in advanced practice nursing. Prior to Cal Poly, I planned a career in nursing, ultimately
deciding that studying nutrition at Cal Poly could provide an excellent foundation. I found nutrition
fascinating. During my maternal and child nutrition course my passion surrounding the health and
wellness of women, particularly during pregnancy, solidified. I began finding ways to supplement my
learning in this direction. As a research assistant for a pediatric nurse practitioner, I sat in on
breastfeeding support groups, consultations and researched topics of concern for new mothers. Some
women had been advised to avoid certain foods while breastfeeding in order to prevent and treat colic
symptoms. As a nutrition major, I am interested in diet modifications as therapies but also aware of the
challenges women are facing to meet the current breastfeeding recommendations. Worried dietary
exclusions may not be evidence based and could contribute to breastfeeding avoidance, I began
researching to find the answers. With the support of my senior project advisor, Dr. Swadener, I dug
into the clinic trials. I found some success in treating infantile colic with a maternal hypoallergenic

INTRODUCTION LITERATURE REVIEW The current economic crisis has become a major concern
of all nations today. It has led policymakers and economists to rethink about the instrument for
economics stability. One of the most damaging consequences of this crisis is the consumption
instability, which negatively affects risk adverse agents welfare. As mentioned by Athahasoulis and
van Wincoop (2000) as well as Pallage and Robes (2003), consumption instability could have
detrimental consequences for the accumulation of human capital and physical capital. Therefore, the

added by all resident producers plus any product taxes (less subsidies) not included in the valuation of
output plus net receipts of primary income (compensation of employees and property income) from
abroad. In this model, we want to observe if gross national income per capita has a significant effect
on total private domestic consumption as a percentage of GDP. If gross national income per capita
increases, total private domestic consumption as a percentage of GDP is expected to increase because
a rise in income encourages households to spend and consume more. Thus, β3 is expected to be

Analysis Of The Film Roman Polanski
Roman Polanski noted for being an iconic figure in the film world is known for producing great films
such as China Town, and The Pianist. Of those two, it is argued that, The Pianist is his best work. This
is because this film has close ties to Polanski s roots. Born in Paris, France in 1933, his father was a
Polish Jew and his mother was Catholic. Polanski s family moved to Krakow, Poland in 1936.
Unfortunately this move would negatively impact the Polanski family, forever. In 1936, the Nazi
occupation of Poland began, starting with the invasion Krakow it is known for being a Jewish city.
Having little money and virtually no time to escape, the Polanski family was forced to stay in what
would eventually become known as the Krakow Ghetto.
Polanski was merely a young child when he was forced to watch his mother being taken away by the
SS to a Nazi labor camp. As for his father, he was eventually taken as well. With Roman Polanski
being forced to fend for himself, he had to abide by Nazi rule, hiding from them the fact that he was a
Jew. Fortunately, for Polanski s genetics he looked more like a true German than he did a Jew, which
made it easier for him to survive in Krakow. In 1943, Roman Polanski escaped the ghetto, and
survived the remainder of the war using the name Romek Wilk with the help of some Polish Roman
Catholic Families. When the war ended in 1945 Roman was reunited with his father. These events in
Polanski s early childhood ultimately

National Anthem Protests
The National Anthem protests have been a major controversy in today s news and with the public. The
protests have caused violent outbreaks among some groups of people and created many problems.
These problems have divided the country and everyone has a different stance on this. Police brutality
is one of the main reasons these protests are occurring and it continues to happen everyday. Also,
veterans are becoming very offended by the people who do protest our country. President Trump has
also made very many comments about this issue including many about the NFL. The NFL has also
lost viewers and money because of the athletes kneeling for the anthem. Overall, the protests of the
national anthem are wrong and disrespectful towards our country and its veterans. The problems that
the protests are causing are becoming a major issue. There have been riots and people are getting very
offended by them. One example is the riots that happened in Baltimore, Maryland in the spring of
2015. The riot was caused by the treatment of Freddie Gray when he was arrested. The riot lasted over
two weeks and caused the city of Baltimore around $20 million. Not everyone riots because of police
brutality and kneeling for the anthem some respect people s decisions to do it and say they are
exercising the First Amendment which is freedom of speech. Veterans have stepped forward and said

Introduction
The Concept of Anxiety is one of Kierkegaard s major works. It summarizes and anticipates themes
that are developed in his other works. Even though Kierkegaard s treasure on anxiety is not a readable
material, that shines though the book is that anxiety is linked to love in the case of positively and also
in the context of negative. A being in anxiety can close himself up within himself, but in anxiety he
can also become aware of himself in such a way that he sees the relationship between himself and
other human being. It is in this regard that anxiety, in Kafka s words, can become an anxiety for the
greatest as well as for the smallest , and also he added this with this ... Show more content on

To be truly human we must experience the anxiety of freedom and in this we are able to live
authentically. To live in freedom necessitates that we are living with anxiety and to be truly human
means being free. But it can also be a very negative thing, the weight of the responsibility of freedom
is the most big burden one can bear and it has the potential to drive us as human into the emptiness of
respire. It is so clear from Kierkegaard s analysis that when we are at the very bottom of the negative
accepts of anxiety that we must find rest in God. When we are weary from bearing the weight of
freedom, when we are terrified of living before an eternal Changeless one then may we find rest in
God. It is here also that we might see the absolute human blessing of

How to Patent a Website Idea: Everything You Need to Know
If you want to learn how to patent a website idea, it is important that you understand the steps
necessary to protect your website idea from others that may try to profit from your idea. For example,
a utility patent is the most common type of patent. It covers the functional aspects of an invention. In
order for an invention to qualify for patent protection, it must be useful, new, and non obvious. This
means that it must be have some sort of purpose, or otherwise, be useful to potential consumers. It
must be new, which means that the invention cannot be similar to another invention already patented.

Provisional Patents for Websites
A provisional patent application is filed with the USPTO and establishes an early filing date, but doesn
t amount to a formal patent application unless and until the applicant files a non provisional patent
application within the 12 months subsequent to filing the non provisional patent. A provisional patent
application is both less detailed and less costly. Immediately after you file your provisional patent
application, you can indicate that your website idea is patent pending. During this time period, you can
develop your website idea even further and turn your provisional patent application into a formal non
provisional patent application.
With a provisional application, you ll want to prepare diagrams and drawings of your website when
filing the application. When drafting the diagrams, consider the user interface itself, the software
generated process, and the administrative screens/cods/software used to maintain the website. Since
there are many unique business processes involved in your website, you want to keep each one
distinct, showcasing the unique methods and processes utilized, and how your website came together.
The more specific and detailed you can be, the higher your chance of patent protection. Always be
mindful that you can hire a qualified patent attorney to assist you with preparing your application. You
can even hire a professional to assist in the drawings,

Ultimately, this song s core meaning has to do with second guessing a decision you or someone made;
in this case, the song uses Syd Barrett leaving the band to have a solo career. Examples of this can be
found throughout the entire song. The first example of this is found right in the opening line when the
singer states, So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell? This line is written as a question in
order to show you how significant this ambiguous decision is throughout the song. It s as if David
Gilmour is asking Syd Barrett himself if he understands the impact of leaving the Pink Floyd has, and
David describes this as if Syd s decision is as different as heaven is from hell. Another example that
backs up this idea is when David Glimour states, And did you exchange, a walk on part in the war, for
a leading role in a cage? This line again is written as a question to the get the listener to really think
about the impact of this line. In this case, David Gilmour is using a war as a way to describe how
brutal the music industry is; as he has been referring to it in previous songs. David Gilmour is also
using a cage as way of telling Syd that your career is only going to be of limited scope working alone.

Vitamin C Essay
A question that is commonly asked when receiving a virus is, what is the fastest way to get rid of it?
No human enjoys the presence of a common cold, despite more extreme terms such as the flu. Rest
and fluids are typically the first reaction to curing a common cold. Then, medicine that is categorized
toward the symptoms is received. Although, how do you speed up the process? Many think that the
intake of large doses of vitamin c can speed up or potentially get rid of the cold all together.
Vitamin C is very essential to our bodies. Vitamin C helps the body to maintain its collective tissues.
This also includes our bones, blood vessels, and skin. Vitamin C is scientifically known as L ascorbic
acid. The vitamin is a water soluble vitamin that can be found in several fruits and vegetables. Vitamin
C can also be found as a dietary supplement. It is essential for our bodies to have some source of
vitamin C intake. Vitamin C is required for the biosynthesis of collagen, L carnitine, and certain
neurotransmitters; vitamin C is also involved in protein metabolism. Collagen is an essential
component of connective tissue, which plays a vital role in wound healing. Vitamin C is also an
important physiological antioxidant [3] and has been shown to regenerate other antioxidants within the
body, including alpha tocopherol (vitamin E). (1) The overall body intake for vitamin C runs to a high
of 2g. Lower amounts of vitamin C can be found in areas such as eyes, pituitary gland, and

Role of Women in Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit
In the novel Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit, by Jeanette Winterson, most of the important, decision

strong, overbearing, eccentric woman, and by Elsie, a prominent member of the family parish who

Throughout the book, many attempts are made by Jeanette s mother to make Jeanette suppress her

Elsie, on the other hand, offers a different approach to life, and serves as a counterexample to Mother

Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, is a form of bacteria that can be found on the
skin, hair, nose and throats of humans and animals (Foodsafety.gov, 2015). This bacteria is a strain of
the wild type Staphylococcus Aureus. According to Merriam Webster s Dictionary, Staphylococcus
comes from the Greek staphylē, meaning bunch of grapes, and the New Latin suffix coccus. Aureus
comes from the Latin root meaning gold, or golden (Merriam Webster, 2015). This can be directly
related to the characteristics of the bacteria because it can be found in grape like clusters. In addition,
it is found to have a golden tint when it is grown on a petri dish. Founded in 1961, this form of

mm, whereas, in the methicillin resistant bacteria it had a mean of 11.8 mm. In addition, vancomycin
had the smallest standard deviation in each experiment, therefore, the values of each ZOI were not too
far from the mean. Thus, because there was a small amount of variation between each value, the
measurements stayed consistent. In addition, vancomycin was not the only bacteria that was effective
against the bacteria. XR21347 was effective against the methicillin resistant with a mean ZOI of 12.7
mm, and Methicillin was effective against the wild type with a mean ZOI of 23.3 mm. All in all, based
on our results vancomycin was the only antibiotic that had an effect against on both bacteria,
therefore, we consider it to be the most effective. However, one could do further research by observing
the effects of this antibiotic when used in the human body. By doing so one could verify that the
vancomycin antibiotic is the most effective against staphylococcus

The Historical Development And Future Trajectory Of...
The article Controversial Blackness: The Historical Development Future Trajectory of African
American Studies, was written by Martha Biondi, a European Associate Professor of African
American Studies and History at Northwestern University.
Martha Biondi (2011), discusses the trajectory, development, growth, training, history, of African
American studies, and the expansion of doctoral programs of African American studies necessary for
the future trajectory in that field. The article further examines the fields in black colleges, as well as
predominantly European institutions and challenge these institutions for the incorporation of African
American studies.

Alexander s question: But has the mission of African American studies changed in other ways? (p
227)
The group agrees that post racial discourse is not recognized and that it is very important to have the
skills and abilities to address such issues, whether social, economic, cultural, and political.
Biondi states that, Arguably the most exciting development for African studies in the twenty first
century is the expansion of doctoral programs. The opportunity to train young scholars can only add to
the growth, rigor and institutional stature of the field, (p 235).
Darwin . Turner, dean of the graduate school at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State
University, argued that the academic turn away from blackness merged from the optimism spawned by
early legal decisions supporting desegregation, the defeat of Fascism, and postwar affluence, (p 228).
Although the article has good points, the article did not mention solutions for the struggles,
challenges, and dilemmas of African American students on campus and the future trajectory for
African American studies. I know that it is very difficult to predict what changes will be in the future
for the trajectory of the African American Studies program. However, the article did bring insight for
other researchers as an opportunity to cultivate solidarity and sharpen and update its analysis of racism
in the United States (p 235).

Essay about The Baroque Period
The Baroque Period
The Baroque Period (1600 1750) was mainly a period of newly discovered ideas. From major new
innovations in science, to vivid changes in geography, people were exploring more of the world
around them. The music of the baroque period was just as extreme as the new changes. Newly
recognized composers such as Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Monteverdi were writing entirely new
musical ideas and giving a chance for new voices to be heard that were normally not thought of
sounds. Their musical legacy is still recognized today, and is a treasured discovery of outstanding
compositions being reiterated with every performance of them. Baroque which came from the French
word barroque and the Portuguese word barroco ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first practice was just the style of vocal polyphony that was established in writing by Zarlino. The
second practice was just Claudio Monteverdi s way of being adventurous. He said that the first
practice was music that the text prevailed, and that the second practice the text overpowered the
music. In Monteverdi s cruda amarilli he demonstrates the use of his second practice. Since
Monteverdi used this second practice Composers start to see instrumental music as a different medium
from vocal music and because of this they started to see them separately as two components, now
borrow vocal idioms in instrumental writing, and vice versa. While trying to express the affections in
man, they wanted to bring about the arousal of emotions like excitement, broadness, being a hero, and
wonder. While doing this they also focused on a new idea of basso continuo which was a
concentration of the bass where the chord was structured on the bass, and later the inversions became
known as figured bass. With this new bass a new contrapuntal system was used where the melodic
lines now had to fit into the pattern of chords set up by the continuo. Johann Sebastian Bach (1685
1750) was a huge composer during the baroque era. He started out as a principal organist and later
went on to write many organ and keyboard compositions. He was hired to write many hymns and

Native American Primitiveness
When I was in the 6th grade my friend Loa told me about her dead great great great great grandfather,
Chief Little Crow, who was the chief of the Mdewakanton Dakota people. She told me that when
archeologists unearthed Little Crow, they placed his bones and spirit in a glass box in the Minnesota
State capitol. She said that it took her family more than a decade to properly rebury his body. While I
drank my chocolate banana milkshake, she described her hatred of white people who wore white lab
coats. I hate them, she insisted, Why do they dig up my ancestors as if they are trophies? At the time, I
did not realize that Loa s hatred of archeologists has been inherited as a result of a decade s long tug of
war between science and indigenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This black or white categorical system that Western science has created can be greatly offensive not
only to indigenous people, but to many other cultures. Tribes claim that Western science has
dehumanized and objectified them. Moreover, Western scientists have used the collected data as
evidence of Native American s primitiveness compared to Europeans. Indigenous people have
suffered unimaginable pain and literal torture for over 500 years because of the misconception that
they are savages, and meant for extinction. The historic oppression of Native Americans by Euro
Americans, who are the ancestors of most present day archaeologists, is a principal factor in the
standoff between science and belief. The ancestors of most white archeologists fought to not only kill
a few hundred Native Americans, but to remove any traces of them. Ironically, the same Euro
Americans who escaped oppressors and tyrants in search of religious freedom, became oppressors
themselves. The white invasion stripped Native Americans of their long hair for short hair, their tribal
wear for European buckskin clothing, and their ancestral religions for the less weird Christian religion.
Repeatedly, Native Americans beliefs and culture have been violated. According to my childhood
friend Loa, Native Americans have a spiritual obligation to make sure that the deceased are
comfortable in the afterlife. Many tribe members never say the name of a loved one after they have
passed in order for their spirit to remain at peace. I cannot imagine the amount of devastation,
sickness, and anger tribal members must feel when they learn that their ancestors have been unearthed,
tested, published, polished, and placed on display at their local

Tron Cons
The film Tron is celebrated and held as a triumph today, but back in the 1980s, the film suffered from
lack of appeal to a wider audience, geared toward more teenage video game buffs and computer nerds,
with a juvenile story, laced with simple dialogue, and unsophisticated costumes. Without a doubt, the
major appeal in Tron is the minimal use of CGI and spectacular animation that was used to create its
computer enhance landscape. However, in spite of its groundbreaking use of computer generated
effects, this costly, somewhat embarrassing box office failure soon developed a growing fan base of
nostalgically minded computer geeks who ended up bestowing a reputation upon it that it barely

Lisberger is best remembered today for Tron and for directing the underrated sci fi film, starring Mark

do a film incorporating them (Wikipedia). Lisberger teamed up with writer Bonnie MacBird by
researching computer science and video game ideas, and eventually came up with the bases for the

What are the differences between global human rights regimes and regional human rights regimes?
Include one example of a regional human rights regime (write at least 1 page double spaced)(5 points)
The most notable example of a global human rights regime is the United Nations, and an example of
regional human rights would be the OAS ( Organization of American States). Both entities have
focuses that are quite similar and intersecting. The main goal of the UN is displayed in article 1 of the
UN Charter which states to maintain international peace and security . Primary concerns of the UN are
security, humanitarian assistance, development, and human rights which is recognized in the Universal
Declaration of Rights by the UN. However, before there was the UN declaration there was the
American Declaration on the Rights and Duties of Man .
Despite the similarities both institutions possess there are differences that are apparent in the utilitarian
function of each. The UN has a universal influence and system of play, and the OAS plays a smaller
role looking over only its specific geographical region of the Americas. While both aim to influence
policy and the promotion of human rights there are advantages that come with their differences. The
UN has criticized the need for regional institutions like the OAS where they believe the OAS role or
goals overlap with those of their own. However, the OAS

All of the Other Ways of Knowing Are Controlled by...
Language is such a universal phenomenon in human society. Whenever we write or speak, we use it;
whenever we make a promise or ask a question, we use it. In the statement ¡§All of the other ways of
knowing are controlled by language¡¨, language is defined as ¡§words¡¨ and this ¡§control¡¨ can be
defined as ¡§dominate¡¨. Then this saying seems not so fair to represent the relationship between the
four ways of knowing. It is more sensible to say language gives some support or limit to our
reason¡Aperception and emotion. It may influence them, but not only one way ¡V the four ways of
knowing interact with each other.
The function of language is particularly relevant in reason. We should believe our application of
reason is within our mind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, once people notice that language gives some misunderstandings sometimes, language will
be less powerful to affect our perception.
Emotion, in the strict sense, looks like the way of knowing that is least dependent of language.
Language suffers due to its relative inability to adequately represent emotion. For all of us it is very
hard to verbalize our emotions exactly. I love my mother so much, but what is love? I respect her, feel
happy when talking to her, and I want to take care of her one day like she always does for me now.
However, it is not enough and detailed to express love. Even if in poems that are more expert in
language, it is lacking of sensible words in presenting our subtle emotions.
It can be argued that people will hold different emotions while thinking the same thing in different
languages. The reason is when we think in a certain language, we will directly think about the
literature and phrases in this language which could favor certain thinking patterns of our cultural
background, then easily lead to different emotions and perceptions. Thus, language may influence our
emotion in some manner.
Actually, language and emotion interact with each other. Consider the lecture given by Martin Luther
King (1963): ¡§I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall
be made low; the tough places will be made plain¡K¡¨ In this lecture, the orator repeated the phrase ¡§I
have a dream¡¨

Gospel Of Luke Research Paper
All of the Gospels have a special and important message within them. It is the Gospel of Luke that
today s Christians need the most though, due to the message that it holds within it. It seems as though
todays Christians seem to have lost the understanding that G d loves everyone and that Jesus came and
died for everyone. In the Gospel of Luke, the main focus of it is that Jesus is for everyone. This can be
seen in many different aspects of the Gospel, all the way from when Jesus was born in the barn to His
resurrection when it was stated that He is the Son of Man (Luke 24:7). Luke was written by a Gentile
Christian who intended this Gospel to be read by other Gentile Christians of that time. Just by these

Analysis Of The First Hobbit Hole Upon Entrance During The...
Please Note all Costs are in $NZD
Strategy Outline
The strategy I have chosen to investigate in order to grow Hobbitons Profit is adding a proffesional
photo at the first hobbit hole upon entrance during the Hobbiton tour. This location is very suitable as
it gives the staff time to develop your photo by the end of the tour and it is also apart of the movie so it
will be recognisable and interesting to others, which is great marketing. This photo will be taken using
all professional equipment and a staff member who has been trained in a one day photography course
will be taking the photo.
The photo can be taken as indivual, group, couple or however you please. At the end of your hobbiton
tour so when you reach the pub, you will be given your photo when you receive your complimentary
drink. The photo will be given to you in a glossy quirky frame that is special and unique to Hobbiton.
Below is a small example of a tourism competitor Skyline Gondola, they offer this strategy as an
additonal cost but it is compulsory for the photo to be taken.

Greek And Roman Contributions To Western Civilization

Romans constructed and instituted many essentials that we utilize today. Law, politics and architecture
are significant attributes that impacted western civilization. The buildings that serve as important
structures and monuments are influenced by Greek and Roman architecture. Not to mention the
beautiful sculptures that were created. The laws that we have abided by for centuries originated in the
Roman culture. As well as some of the political aspects of western civilization. All of these

This would be considered the first democracy. It was an important stepping stone in the Roman
culture. People played a part in the government similar to the way we do now in the western world.
There were different branches with similar function to those that are used today. The legislative branch
was comprised of a senate and assemblies. While the executive branch was members who were
elected in and responsible for controlling the military. There was the judicial branch containing judges
who were also elected in by an assembly. The Roman government was ahead of its time and
unconventional. Had these branches not been formed, ours might not have ever been shaped to what
they currently are. The Twelve Tables was the first documented laws. The tables were designed for the
protection of the people against abuses (Ancient Rome). During this time period the laws included
were appropriate for the circumstances. One such table says that children s lives were essentially the
discretion of the father. He could choose whether he wanted to put the child/ren to death (Spielvogel).
This obviously is not something we do today, but it was thought to be appropriate in that era. There
was also a table that states a man who is summoned, must go to court. If not he would be forced to do
so. This is the only table that we follow as a law. Many of the tables we would not use today, but the

Hrolf Kraki Kings
In The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki we are introduced to multiple kings who are different in many ways.
Each one of these achieve their leadership roles in different ways and are held to different standards.
Some of these kings include King Frodi, King Hegi, and of course King Hrolf Kraki. King Frodi is
one of the first kings mentioned in The Saga of King Hrolf Kraki and portrayed as the jealous, cold
hearted brother of Halfdan. King Frodi and King Halfdan both achieved their leadership due to being
sons of a previous king. We are told the King Frodi envied his brother because he ruled Denmark, so

King Helgi then used a beggar to trick Queen Olof into going into the woods in the search of treasure.
King Helgi then took her and raped her. This shows how although kings during that time were seen to
be ideal warriors, they were also flawed. Like King Frodi, King Helgi lacked some morals and
eventually suffers the consequences of his actions when his daughter Yrsa who later found out that he
was her father and he had raped her mother, had him attacked. Then there is King Hrolf Kraki who
shows us an example of what was a truly great king. King Hrolf has most of the honorable traits of
that time that allowed him to obtain his leader ship along with his fame. Hrolf was for the most part
successful in his battles due to being able to gather up many noble warriors who were called King
Hrolf s Champions He treated these mean with a certain brotherhood that isn t really shown by the
other kings in the Saga. This appears to be an important trait for him to have during this time and it
works in his favor. As more men heard about how he honored his champions, they were attracted
towards him which allowed him to build a decent sized army of warriors. An example of this
happening is when Svipdag told his king that he was leaving because he wanted to look for a king who
will honour (Pg. 30) him and his brothers more. Although King Hrolf Kraki had many honorable traits
he too was flawed like most people. One mistake

Designing The Efficient Scheduling Methods For Real Time...
Abstract In this research we are presenting the problem of designing the efficient scheduling methods
for real time systems. The real time scheduling problem is nothing but the scheduling problem in
which QoS requirements should be satisfied along with task scheduling. The main objective of
scheduling problem is designing the time and QoS efficient scheduling algorithm to schedule tasks
optimally those are waiting to be served. We presented the literature study on different existing
scheduling policies with its limitations. Therefore in this research, we are presenting new Dynamic
Multilevel Priority (DMP) method of scheduling policy for RTS. As the name indicates, this method
works dynamically and as per the requirement of task scheduling. DMP algorithm is designed with
three different queues of tasks/demands scheduling based on nature of tasks. In first queue,
security/urgency related demands should be proceed with highest priority, in second queue with
second highest priority, regular demands should be proceed, while last queue is used to serve local non
real time demands. In first queue, real time packets processed with highest priority. Thus this
scheduling policy does not hold any demand for longer waiting period and hence improves the overall
QoS performance of RTSs. The practical evaluation of proposed methodology is done by using
UPPAAL tool. We have considered train gate example for evaluation of proposed scheduling policy.

Macbeth Rhetorical Devices Essay
Ray Comfort, a New Zealand evangelist, once said: Rhetoric, which is the use of language to inform

how it is used by others. Rhetoric can be used to inform, persuade, and inspire. Writers will use
rhetoric to shape their characters feelings and attitudes. The writers want the characters to differ, so
they can represent the different factions of the human persona. This personality is created by the
character s usage of rhetorical devices, such as diction, dialect, or tone. A character s attitude towards

unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe top full of direst cruelty. Make thick my blood.
Stop up th access and passage to remorse . . . (1.5.47 51). Her plea for a detached mind creates utmost
irony, for Lady Macbeth is a character that relies purely on emotion, albeit wicked. In asking for no
emotion, she becomes solely dependent on her emotions. She later prepares herself for what she and
her husband must do to Duncan: Come thick night, and pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell, that my

hold! (1.5.57 61). Giving up her femininity and allowing hell to preserve her shows unnerving
dedication. Lustful for power, Lady Macbeth is willing to literally do anything to place her husband on
the throne. Therefore, she shows devotion to both her causes and Macbeth. She, like her husband, is
honorable to her causes. Later she uses her manipulative diction to convince her husband to kill
Duncan. She continually berates him: Was the hope drunk wherein you dressed yourself? Hath it slept

Dbq Causes Of World War 1
There were many causes that contributed to World War I like: Imperialism, Militarism, and Alliances.
Europeans thought they could make the world their oyster and take over any areas they pleased. Most
countries did not appreciate their land being taken from them. For example, Serbia wanted
independence from their mother country Austria Hungary, so a nationalist group called the Black
Hand, decided to assassinate the Archduke. If Serbia didn t assassinate the Archduke of Austria
Hungary the war probably wouldn t have happened at all. Europe s imperialism is what caused the

For The Past Forty Years, Ohio Is Believed To Have Gone
For the past forty years, Ohio is believed to have gone through a process of deindustrialization. This
means that Ohio experienced a decline in manufacturing jobs. While this is a simple definition, the
origins of the term deindustrialization gives a deeper, more pejorative meaning to the term. This
darker meaning to the term is perhaps more effectively conveyed through the term rust belt. After
Ohio wen through the process of deindustrialization, the lack of industrial jobs in a once booming
industrial area left many factories empty and decommissioned. As these factories became older and
unused, their rusting facades became a symbol of the deindustrialization that Ohio experienced,
leading someone to coin the term rust belt for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term traces its roots back to World War II. The concept of deindustrialization began in Nazi
Germany. The Nazis described the areas that they had invaded in conquered in this way. This is
because they eliminated any industry from the areas that they took over, forcing these states to become
dependent upon Germany for economic and industrial development. This philosophy was also used as
a punishment for those countries, showing the power of Nazi Germany. After the end of the war, the
Allies began to use the term deindustrialization , as well. Essentially taking the definition from the
Nazis, they used this term in discussions of how to punish Nazi Germany in post war rebuilding plans.
Regardless of who was using the term in World War II, there was always a negative connotation
attached to it. Rather than simply saying that it meant a decline in manufacturing jobs for an area, the
term was used as a punishment and a show of power. In its origins, deindustrialization was used by the
winners of a conflict to describe how they would take away industry from the losing nation or state.
For this reason, it can be seen how the term developed a negative connotation. The term grew
tremendously in usage around the 1970s, when factories began to downsize what would become
known as the

Forests Are Very Important For The Environment
Intro:
Forests are very important for the environment. The importance of forests cannot be underestimated.
We depend on forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use. Forests also
provide a habitat for a vast array of plants and animals, many of which are still undiscovered. They
also supply the oxygen we need to survive. Forests are a home to many endangered species but forests
are also endangered due to these species. For example the red deer eats just about any plant that they
can reach, therefore is a threat to forests and saplings. Any of the forest trees that thrive in mature
forests cannot survive on bare, exposed sites. In the forest, they are protected from wind, desiccation
(drying out) and the extremes of temperature. Forests start off as young trees (also known as saplings).
They then grow and develop into forests. Many physical and biological components influence forest
trees. Individual sapling and tree growth and vigor are determined by a variety of physiological and
external effects, such as age, available light, water, and nutrients. Since tree crowns are a component
of forest ecosystem structure, they directly affect the composition, processes, and vigor of the
understory plant and animal components of the forest. The height of the crown reflects the general
health of the tree therefore would need to be tall in order for the tree to survive. There are a number of
forest restoration groups who are helping to restore native forests

Crayola Pencils
Prismacolor is a well known and well liked brand of media in the art world. It has a variety of media
to choose from, however in this assignment we shall focus on colored pencils. One of Prismacolor s
top competitors is Crayola, who you may think has a monopoly in the art market, preceded by
Dewernt and Fabercastle. There is much that goes into choosing a colored pencil beyond the number
of colors available from the line in question. For example and artist will look for a brand that produces
quality pigmentation and value. If a colored pencil can create dark lines with little effort as well as

While Prismacolor has three types of pencils for different uses. The classic colored pencils have 60
colors, the soft core colored pencils used for blending and shading have 150 shades and colors, and the
Verithin or detail pencils have 36 colors to choose from (Prismacolor). The pencils themselves are
made of differing quality materials and therefore are different quality altogether. Crayola colored
pencils just do not have the same blending capabilities or pigment quality as Prismacolor. They have a
hard time blending at all to be honest and no shading ability without damaging the paper. Variety is the
spice of life and Crayola is severely lacking

Observational Learning Research Paper
I enjoyed learning about observational learning, which is what you learn from watching other people. I
learned about observational learning at a very young age. Whenever my mother would cook in the
kitchen, I would be standing right there just watching how she preformed each task, and yet I learned
so much. I even wanted to be a chef at the time because I felt like I could cook anything.
Observational learning is definitely will be a benefit to my future goals. I believe I am pretty good at
learning this way. When it is time for me to pursue my externship for medical assistant, I will be
watching things being done first and then try to mimic exactly what I just saw, so I will be watching
closely to try my best to get it right on the first try.

Necrotizing Fasciitis Research Paper
Necrotizing fasciitis, more commonly know as the flesh eating disease, is a potentially deadly
infection if left untreated or misdiagnosed (2). The infection begins in the skin s superficial fascia, a
band of connective tissue that stabilizes muscles and other internal organs. Fascia is very widespread
throughout the human body, providing a basic mechanism for the bacteria to grow and spread rapidly.
Once anchored in the fascial planes, the infecting bacteria cause the surrounding skin, fat, muscle, and
other tissues to die. Early symptoms of necrotizing fasciitis include fever, thirst, nausea, sore throat,
and minor pain around the affected area. These symptoms progress quickly and become more critical
and life threatening. They include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
GAS is associated with many other common illnesses, such as pharyngitis, and scarlet fever (2). It is
also a gram positive bacterium, meaning the bacterium itself has a thick cell wall made of the protein
peptidoglycan. This extra protein layer makes it more susceptible to antibiotics. While this
susceptibility aids in treatment once necrotizing fasciitis is diagnosed, these bacteria are carried every
day by humans in our noses, throats, and skin, showing no physical symptoms. Once an object pierces
the body, infection is more likely because this bacterium is so widely prevalent. When GAS causes
necrotizing fasciitis, it can also occur simultaneously with Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome
(STSS). This additional, and sometimes fatal condition STTS, accelerates the metastasis of necrotizing
fasciitis (1). Since GAS is the most known cause of necrotizing fasciitis, researchers are actively
trying to target and prevent this strand directly. Through extensive genetic analysis, a natural single
nucleotide mutation has been identified and is associated with decreased presentation of necrotizing
fasciitis in humans. Identifying what specific genes involving GAS result in an infectious outcome is
highly useful. In the future, genome editing techniques could allow for the deactivation of genes
directly related to necrotizing fasciitis, resulting in fewer diagnosed cases

The Stock Market Of Money Markets Essay
Stock Market Money markets is the market in which shares of freely held organizations are issued and
exchanged either through trades or over the counter markets. Otherwise called the value showcase, the
share trading system is a standout amongst the most crucial segments of a free market economy as it
furnishes organizations with access to capital in return for giving financial specialists a cut of
proprietorship in the organization. The share trading system makes it conceivable to develop little
introductory entireties of cash into vast ones and to end up distinctly rich without going out on a limb
of beginning a business or making the penances that frequently go with a lucrative vocation. Money
markets gives speculators a chance to take an interest in the budgetary accomplishments of the
organizations whose shares they hold. At the point when organizations are beneficial securities
exchange financial specialists profit through the profits the organizations pay out and by offering
acknowledged stocks at a benefit called a capital pick up. The drawback is that speculators can lose
cash if the organizations whose stocks they hold lose cash the stocks costs goes down and the financial
specialist offers the stocks at a misfortune. The share trading system can be part into two principle
areas the essential market and the optional market. The essential market is the place new issues are
first sold through beginning open offerings. Institutional financial specialists normally

Sodium Borate Lab Report
In this experiment, polyvinyl acetate (C4H6O2) also know as white glue, sodium borate (Na2B4O7),
and water (H2O), was used in various ratios to create bouncy balls that were afterwards tested for its
final mass, bounce height, and viscosity. The bouncy balls were created by mixing ratios of glue,
sodium borate, and water that is separated into two parts. The water was included in the ratio twice
because of the reactions that needed to take place. Water was added to the glue in a separate cup and
another separate ratio of water was added to the sodium borate. The mixtures were mixed with glass
stirring rods. In each trial, different mass ratios were used. Grams was the metric unit that was used in
this experiment. After adding up the ratio of glue/water/sodium borate/water for one trial, forty grams
should be the total mass. In trials ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ten grams was the amount that was given to use for each component. The scale was set to zero, then
an empty plastic cup was placed on the scale. The tare button on the scale was pushed to weigh out the
empty cup. In the cup, ten grams of glue was measured. Then, in a separate cup, ten grams of water
was weighed out. The water was mixed into the glue then stirred and put to the side. In another empty
cup, ten grams of sodium borate was weighed. In an alternate cup, ten grams of water was measured,
then add the water to the sodium borate and stirred. The two final products that both contained water
were then added together and stirred till the ball was formed. Not all of the mixtures were transferred
when joining them to one another. In trial two, the procedures stayed the same, but the measurements
of the glue was changed to five grams, and the sodium borate was changed to fifteen grams. When on
the third trial, the steps were kept identical, but the mass of the glue was replaced to fifteen grams, and
the size of the sodium borate was adjusted to five

Educating the Autistic Essay
Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by a cluster of behaviors that has rapidly became
more prevalent in recent years. With the increase of children on the autism spectrum and the severity
of their diagnosis becoming more pungent, public schools have found themselves braced in finding
methods to educate autistic children. A complex disorder needs complex help. The idea of creating an
environment at which every student will be able to meet their highest potential in their education,
including those with disabilities such as autism, is existent, but whether or not that doctrine is being
applied is in question. There are several appropriate methods, such as providing teacher assistants and
enhancing special education programs, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Office of Special Education Programs). IDEA also requires every school district to establish an
individualized educational program (IEP) for special education students. In the 1990 Individuals with
Disabilities Education Act, autism is identified as an independent disability category and defined
autism, by law, as a developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal
communication and social interaction (Lewis and Doorlag 338). This law requires schools to give
every student the chance to learn, but unfortunately does not require schools to see that the
opportunity for students with special education is sufficient to their needs and effective in pushing
these students to their highest potential.
Children with autism do best when there is a strong partnership between the school and the home, but
often the relationship is strained, or worse. There is increasing tension between parents aspirations for
their child and what the school is willing to provide, observes Michael McKee, executive director of
the Virginia Institute of Autism, a small nonprofit private school in Charlottesville. School districts
pretty much across the country define appropriate as merely adequate (Smith).
Because of funding problems with public educations systems, only private schools have
accommodated applied behavior analysis to students

Ophelia And Hamlet
During the reign of Queen Elizabeth, the stage was used as a way to break the barriers of gender
norms. In his creation of Hamlet, Shakespeare uses the voice of Ophelia as a means to battle the
gender norms that had been placed on Elizabethan society. A good women was seen as someone that
was quiet and submissive. If a man could not control a woman s tongue, there would be no chance that
the man would be able to control her body. Though Ophelia s character was more than capable of
exhibiting reason, the control that her father, Polonius, held over her let Ophelia to the the madness
that would claim her life by the end of the play. On the other side of the gender spectrum, Hamlet, a
prince that should be have been more than capable of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Merchant s representations claim that both nature and women are subordinate and essentially passive
furthering the proof that women are held at a lower standard than men (Merchant 9).
The sexuality of women is also compared to animals, furthering the idea that women appeared closer
to animals than men on the Great Chain of Being. Hamlet emphasises his mother s sexuality as being
animalistic when confronting the King and Queen about their incestual marriage, stating that she
would hang on him/As if increase of appetite had grown/by what it fed on (1.2.143). Hamlet
supplements Gertrude s animalistic sexuality by claiming that a beast who lacks reasoning capabilities
would have mourned [the death of her husband] longer rather than marrying her brother in law, which
was an incestuous act (1.2.150). In Elizabethan England, it was considered indecent and illegal to
carry out an act of incest and, by copulating the marriage, Gertrude is acting in a way that does not
show any reasoning. Hamlet ends his soliloquy by stating that he must hold [his] tongue rather than
demanding his mother acknowledge her lacking position on the Great Chain of Being. Merchant states
that women are imbued with a far greater sexual passion rather than by logic which solidifies their
position on the Great Chain of Being according to Elizabethan standards.

Essay on The Giant Panda
The Giant Panda (Ailuropoda Melanoleuca) lives in the bamboo forests
of southwestern China. This type of panda is endangered and to this day
there are only around a thousand pandas left (http//:panda.org, 1).
Adult giant pandas have a length of 160 to 180
centimeters (5/14 to 6 feet). The weight of an adult
male giant panda is normally between 80 and 125
kilograms (176 and 276 pounds) with males
typically weighing about 10% to 20% more than
females about the same size as the American black
bear. However, unlike the black bear, giant pandas
do not hibernate and cannot walk on their hind
legs (Etling 1).

At close range, aggression is
signaled by a swipe with a paw, or by a
low pitched growl or bark (Etling 4).
Giant pandas are by nature solitary animals, most of the time avoiding
direct contact with others of their own kind (Etling 3). In the spring,
between March and May, the females must seek each other out in order to
mate (Etling 3). Pandas are known to begin mating at six years of age
(Jonkel 1).
In the months of August or September, one or two
cubs are born in a sheltered den made of twigs and
leaves. The mother will hold the cub to its chest
with both paws until the youngster squirms away.
This is to ensure that the cub is alive and well. The
young cub will become the mother s constant
companion for the next 18 months until the cub is
able to live on its own (Etling 3).
When panda cubs are born they usually weigh 3 to 5 ounces or about
4 5 grams each (1/900th of the mothers weight) (Etling 1). When the baby
pandas are born, they are blind and hairless. After a short 10 days, the cubs
eventually grow hair and gain sight.
The pandas eating diet is very basic. There are 25 different types of
bamboo that pandas eat. When the panda eats bamboo, the panda usually sits
in an upright position holding the bamboo out in front of it.

His interpretation took reference from Greek mythology and other mythical stories during the renaissance. Nearly 100 years later, Rueben was inspired by Titan s original theme. • 3. Waimanalo Research Paper The key geological features played a significant role in creating Waimanalo. Waimanalo was formed by a catastrophic landslide from the Nuuanu Pali all the way down to the coast and to the ending of Makapu`u. Under the water lay debris and material from this landslide. In the 1960 s, the US Navy first found out about this information by a single beam sonar surveying a utilized improved radio navigation system. In the 1980 s, a multibeam side scan sonar, GLORIA, imaged in unprecedented detail known landslides, and also discovered new ones. Then finally, came the JAMESTEC multibeam profiler which surveys and utilized GPS navigation, produced detailed maps of the entire landslide for the first time. • 4. Using GIS in the Study of the Steel Industry How GIS is used in the study case? The U.S. steel industry continues to face formidable competition globally, especially from a costing, supply chain, and procurement perspective. The intensity of this competition is forcing many steel producers to look for greater efficiencies form their own operations. One of the most effective continues to be the streamlining how product, project, and process information to create a unified system of record which can be used for knowledge management (Armstrong, 2008). From an analysis of the readings in Using GIS Technology for Document and Asset Management (Armstrong, 2008) it is apparent that visual representation of information and knowledge taxonomies across the various locations of a U.S. Steel manufacturing plant are invaluable in increasing efficiency and performance. These manufacturing centers often rely on a very broad set of content based sources, information and knowledge all used for keeping each production machine running efficiently while also ensuring that the steel mill workers have the information they need to do their jobs. The case study is unique from a GIS perspective in that it combines the spatial data related to documents and knowledge repositories throughout an enterprise to the workflows associated with them. The myriad of data sources throughout any business have a high percentage of content associated with location based intelligence as well (Armstrong, 2008). The case study shows how the myriad of data, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Dna Damage, Repair, And Dna Methylation Essay Introduction: Modification of damaged DNA seems to be an understudied subject, there is much to understand on the restoration of DNA damage, repair and DNA methylation. Genomic DNA can be modified by methylation but much of it is affected on a gene when silenced. When epigenetic modification has been implicated with cancer and aging it causes DNA methylation to also have an impact on the double strand of DNA analysis. Modification as such provoke deteriorating changes like aging found in multicellular organisms and DNA damage may magnify biochemical pathways that regulate a cells growth or control DNA replication with DNA repair. In the article DNA Damage, Homology Directed Repair, and DNA Methylation written by Concetta Cuozzo, Antonio Porcellini, Tiziana Angrisano, et al. they hypothesize how DNA damage and gene silencing may induce a DNA double strand break within a genome as well as when DNA methylation is induced by homologous recombination that it may somewhat mark its reparation through a DNA segment and protect its cells against any unregulated gene expression that may be followed by DNA damage. The experiments used to demonstration how gene conversion can modify methylation pattern of repaired DNA and when that occurs methylation is able to silence the recombined gene. When exploring the molecular mechanisms that link DNA damage and the silencing gene then there is an induced double strand break that can be found at a specific location or DNA sequence in where the ... • 7. Sleep And Slow Wave Sleep Essay improves procedural memory, i.e. skills and procedures [1,2] as well as declarative memory [3]. REM and slow wave sleep (SWS) have been implicated in memory consolidation [3 5]. Lack of REM sleep is associated with poor recall of visual location [6]. Decline in declarative memory consolidation is correlated with a decline in slow wave sleep [7]. Spencer et al. observed similar initial procedural learning in older and younger adults; however, the older adults performance did not improve following sleep, suggesting that sleep dependent memory consolidation decreases with age [8]. This may reflect the disturbed sleep and disrupted SWS in the elderly [3,8,9]. Slow wave sleep increases until shortly before puberty and then shows a prominent drop across adolescence, decreasing by more than 60% between ages 10 and 20 years [10]. It is critical to understand the cognitive effects of normal sleep in order to understand the consequences of disrupted sleep. This is important since the majority of adolescents do not obtain the recommended amount of sleep and that disrupted sleep is a key symptom in most adolescent psychiatric and developmental disorders [11]. Backhaus et al. studied twenty seven children with an average age of 10.1 years (range of nine to twelve), on a learned word pairs list, employing a within subject design and two post learning assessments. They found that declarative memory was significantly increased immediately after an interval of sleep, as well as with delayed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Message Of Jesus Christ But who do you say that I am? (Mark 8:29). This same question that was asked of Peter and the disciples speaks within the heart of each person we share the Gospel message with. There comes a point, at the crux of our catechesis, where the question, Who is Jesus? needs to be answered. At the heart of catechesis we find, in essence, a Person, the Person of Jesus of Nazareth. (CT 5). This compelling statement given by Pope John Paul II in his exhortation, Catechesi Tradendae, calls catechists to always remember the purpose of catechesis. They are to help lead others, through loving example and careful communication of doctrine, to meet a real Person, the Person of Jesus Christ and foster a deeper union with the Blessed Trinity. To proclaim the message of Jesus Christ is vital to an organic catechesis. As catechists, it is our vocation to bring others to know of the personal relationship that God is seeking to have with each one of them. A relationship in any facet of the human life requires conversation through both listening and responding. Our catechesis should be no different. As Pope Francis states in Evangelii Gaudium, It is the message capable of responding to the desire for the infinite which abides in every human heart (EG 165). As we actively listen to the word of God, we should be cut to the heart (Acts 2:37) in the same way as those who heard Peter s Pentecost speech as he boldly proclaimed the kerygma. • 10. Difference Between Wooden Motte And Bailey Castles Because of a lack of a strong central government during feudal society, wars happened often. For protection every noble built a castle. The first proper castles were built in England after the Norman Conquest in 1066. Wooden motte and bailey castles were the first type of castle to be built in England. The tower of the keep was built a huge mound called a motte and had an enclosed courtyard called a bailey. It would have been very difficult to get up the sides of the motte because they were so steep. A ditch dug around the bottom of the motte also added protection. The bailey was located at the bottom of the motte and could be up to three acres. Followers of the lord who ran the castle lived inside the bailey. There were many buildings in the bailey including bakeries, kitchens, houses, stables, and living quarters for soldiers. Motte and bailey castles were quick and easy to build. Some could even be finished in a couple of weeks. However, wooden buildings caught on fire easily and stone structures were much stronger. Cal Poly was affordable, strong in the sciences and well known for its Learn by Doing philosophy. I received a phenomenal education in science and nutrition helping me feel prepared to begin graduate studies in advanced practice nursing. Prior to Cal Poly, I planned a career in nursing, ultimately deciding that studying nutrition at Cal Poly could provide an excellent foundation. I found nutrition fascinating. During my maternal and child nutrition course my passion surrounding the health and wellness of women, particularly during pregnancy, solidified. I began finding ways to supplement my learning in this direction. As a research assistant for a pediatric nurse practitioner, I sat in on breastfeeding support groups, consultations and researched topics of concern for new mothers. Some women had been advised to avoid certain foods while breastfeeding in order to prevent and treat colic symptoms. As a nutrition major, I am interested in diet modifications as therapies but also aware of the challenges women are facing to meet the current breastfeeding recommendations. Worried dietary exclusions may not be evidence based and could contribute to breastfeeding avoidance, I began researching to find the answers. With the support of my senior project advisor, Dr. Swadener, I dug into the clinic trials. I found some success in treating infantile colic with a maternal hypoallergenic ... One of the most damaging consequences of this crisis is the consumption instability, which negatively affects risk adverse agents welfare. As mentioned by Athahasoulis and van Wincoop (2000) as well as Pallage and Robes (2003), consumption instability could have detrimental consequences for the accumulation of human capital and physical capital. In this model, we want to observe if gross national income per capita has a significant effect on total private domestic consumption as a percentage of GDP. If gross national income per capita increases, total private domestic consumption as a percentage of GDP is expected to increase because a rise in income encourages households to spend and consume more. • 13. Analysis Of The Film Roman Polanski Roman Polanski noted for being an iconic figure in the film world is known for producing great films such as China Town, and The Pianist. Of those two, it is argued that, The Pianist is his best work. This is because this film has close ties to Polanski s roots. Born in Paris, France in 1933, his father was a Polish Jew and his mother was Catholic. Polanski s family moved to Krakow, Poland in 1936. Unfortunately this move would negatively impact the Polanski family, forever. In 1936, the Nazi occupation of Poland began, starting with the invasion Krakow it is known for being a Jewish city. Having little money and virtually no time to escape, the Polanski family was forced to stay in what would eventually become known as the Krakow Ghetto. Polanski was merely a young child when he was forced to watch his mother being taken away by the SS to a Nazi labor camp. As for his father, he was eventually taken as well. With Roman Polanski being forced to fend for himself, he had to abide by Nazi rule, hiding from them the fact that he was a Jew. Fortunately, for Polanski s genetics he looked more like a true German than he did a Jew, which made it easier for him to survive in Krakow. In 1943, Roman Polanski escaped the ghetto, and survived the remainder of the war using the name Romek Wilk with the help of some Polish Roman Catholic Families. The protests have caused violent outbreaks among some groups of people and created many problems. These problems have divided the country and everyone has a different stance on this. Police brutality is one of the main reasons these protests are occurring and it continues to happen everyday. Also, veterans are becoming very offended by the people who do protest our country. Overall, the protests of the national anthem are wrong and disrespectful towards our country and its veterans. The problems that the protests are causing are becoming a major issue. There have been riots and people are getting very offended by them. One example is the riots that happened in Baltimore, Maryland in the spring of 2015. The riot was caused by the treatment of Freddie Gray when he was arrested. The riot lasted over two weeks and caused the city of Baltimore around $20 million. It summarizes and anticipates themes that are developed in his other works. Even though Kierkegaard s treasure on anxiety is not a readable material, that shines though the book is that anxiety is linked to love in the case of positively and also in the context of negative. A being in anxiety can close himself up within himself, but in anxiety he can also become aware of himself in such a way that he sees the relationship between himself and other human being. It is so clear from Kierkegaard s analysis that when we are at the very bottom of the negative accepts of anxiety that we must find rest in God. Jeanette, the female protagonist, is greatly influenced by her mother, a strong, overbearing, eccentric woman, and by Elsie, a prominent member of the family parish who becomes Jeanette s only friend and closest confidant. When Mother finds out that Jeanette is a lesbian, she kicks her out of the house, saying, You ll have to leave, I m not havin demons here. (Page 136). That incident, however, happens only after Mother and the Pastor try many times to make Jeanette repent and renounce her sexual feelings toward women, including trying to make her feel guilty and shameful, sending away her sexual partners, and locking her in a room for thirty six without food or light. Elsie, on the other hand, offers a different approach to life, and serves as a counterexample to Mother s repressive influences. Elsie is a member of the church who befriends Jeanette and understands her problems, and is one of the only people with whom Jeanette feels open and comfortable. Essay On Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, is a form of bacteria that can be found on the skin, hair, nose and throats of humans and animals (Foodsafety.gov, 2015). This bacteria is a strain of the wild type Staphylococcus Aureus. According to Merriam Webster s Dictionary, Staphylococcus comes from the Greek staphylē, meaning bunch of grapes, and the New Latin suffix coccus. Aureus comes from the Latin root meaning gold, or golden (Merriam Webster, 2015). This can be directly related to the characteristics of the bacteria because it can be found in grape like clusters. In addition, vancomycin had the smallest standard deviation in each experiment, therefore, the values of each ZOI were not too far from the mean. Thus, because there was a small amount of variation between each value, the measurements stayed consistent. In addition, vancomycin was not the only bacteria that was effective against the bacteria. From major new innovations in science, to vivid changes in geography, people were exploring more of the world around them. The music of the baroque period was just as extreme as the new changes. Newly recognized composers such as Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Monteverdi were writing entirely new musical ideas and giving a chance for new voices to be heard that were normally not thought of sounds. Since Monteverdi used this second practice Composers start to see instrumental music as a different medium from vocal music and because of this they started to see them separately as two components, now borrow vocal idioms in instrumental writing, and vice versa. While trying to express the affections in man, they wanted to bring about the arousal of emotions like excitement, broadness, being a hero, and wonder. While doing this they also focused on a new idea of basso continuo which was a concentration of the bass where the chord was structured on the bass, and later the inversions became known as figured bass. With this new bass a new contrapuntal system was used where the melodic lines now had to fit into the pattern of chords set up by the continuo. Indigenous people have suffered unimaginable pain and literal torture for over 500 years because of the misconception that they are savages, and meant for extinction. The historic oppression of Native Americans by Euro Americans, who are the ancestors of most present day archaeologists, is a principal factor in the standoff between science and belief. However, before there was the UN declaration there was the American Declaration on the Rights and Duties of Man . However, once people notice that language gives some misunderstandings sometimes, language will be less powerful to affect our perception. Emotion, in the strict sense, looks like the way of knowing that is least dependent of language. Language suffers due to its relative inability to adequately represent emotion. For all of us it is very hard to verbalize our emotions exactly. I love my mother so much, but what is love? I respect her, feel happy when talking to her, and I want to take care of her one day like she always does for me now. However, it is not enough and detailed to express love. Even if in poems that are more expert in language, it is lacking of sensible words in presenting our subtle emotions. It can be argued that people will hold different emotions while thinking the same thing in different languages. The reason is when we think in a certain language, we will directly think about the literature and phrases in this language which could favor certain thinking patterns of our cultural background, then easily lead to different emotions and perceptions. Thus, language may influence our emotion in some manner. Actually, language and emotion interact with each other. The real time scheduling problem is nothing but the scheduling problem in which QoS requirements should be satisfied along with task scheduling. The main objective of scheduling problem is designing the time and QoS efficient scheduling algorithm to schedule tasks optimally those are waiting to be served. We presented the literature study on different existing scheduling policies with its limitations. Therefore in this research, we are presenting new Dynamic Multilevel Priority (DMP) method of scheduling policy for RTS. As the name indicates, this method works dynamically and as per the requirement of task scheduling. DMP algorithm is designed with three different queues of tasks/demands scheduling based on nature of tasks. In first queue, security/urgency related demands should be proceed with highest priority, in second queue with second highest priority, regular demands should be proceed, while last queue is used to serve local non real time demands. In first queue, real time packets processed with highest priority. Thus this scheduling policy does not hold any demand for longer waiting period and hence improves the overall QoS performance of RTSs. The practical evaluation of proposed methodology is done by using UPPAAL tool. We have considered train gate example for evaluation of proposed scheduling policy. Keyword: Real Time ... This is because they eliminated any industry from the areas that they took over, forcing these states to become dependent upon Germany for economic and industrial development. This philosophy was also used as a punishment for those countries, showing the power of Nazi Germany. After the end of the war, the Allies began to use the term deindustrialization , as well. Essentially taking the definition from the Nazis, they used this term in discussions of how to punish Nazi Germany in post war rebuilding plans. Regardless of who was using the term in World War II, there was always a negative connotation attached to it. Rather than simply saying that it meant a decline in manufacturing jobs for an area, the term was used as a punishment and a show of power. In its origins, deindustrialization was used by the winners of a conflict to describe how they would take away industry from the losing nation or state. For this reason, it can be seen how the term developed a negative connotation. The term grew tremendously in usage around the 1970s, when factories began to downsize what would become known as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Forests Are Very Important For The Environment Intro: Forests are very important for the environment. The importance of forests cannot be underestimated. We depend on forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use. Forests also provide a habitat for a vast array of plants and animals, many of which are still undiscovered. They also supply the oxygen we need to survive. Forests are a home to many endangered species but forests are also endangered due to these species. For example the red deer eats just about any plant that they can reach, therefore is a threat to forests and saplings. Any of the forest trees that thrive in mature forests cannot survive on bare, exposed sites. In the forest, they are protected from wind, desiccation (drying out) and the extremes of temperature. Forests start off as young trees (also known as saplings). They then grow and develop into forests. Many physical and biological components influence forest trees. Individual sapling and tree growth and vigor are determined by a variety of physiological and external effects, such as age, available light, water, and nutrients. Since tree crowns are a component of forest ecosystem structure, they directly affect the composition, processes, and vigor of the understory plant and animal components of the forest. The height of the crown reflects the general health of the tree therefore would need to be tall in order for the tree to survive. There are a number of forest restoration groups who are helping to restore native forests ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Crayola Pencils Prismacolor is a well known and well liked brand of media in the art world. It has a variety of media to choose from, however in this assignment we shall focus on colored pencils. One of Prismacolor s top competitors is Crayola, who you may think has a monopoly in the art market, preceded by Dewernt and Fabercastle. There is much that goes into choosing a colored pencil beyond the number of colors available from the line in question. For example and artist will look for a brand that produces quality pigmentation and value. If a colored pencil can create dark lines with little effort as well as faint lines it is a good choice. The Prismacolor pencils can do that with no problem so can the Crayola pencils to a degree, but there is a slight difference in value from the pigmentation agent in the pencil themselves. Both brands offer a variety of colors and shades of these colors. That is where the parity ends however. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pencils themselves are made of differing quality materials and therefore are different quality altogether. Crayola colored pencils just do not have the same blending capabilities or pigment quality as Prismacolor. I learned about observational learning at a very young age. Whenever my mother would cook in the kitchen, I would be standing right there just watching how she preformed each task, and yet I learned so much. I even wanted to be a chef at the time because I felt like I could cook anything. Observational learning is definitely will be a benefit to my future goals. I believe I am pretty good at learning this way. When it is time for me to pursue my externship for medical assistant, I will be watching things being done first and then try to mimic exactly what I just saw, so I will be watching closely to try my best to get it right on the first try. ... • 43. Necrotizing Fasciitis Research Paper Necrotizing fasciitis, more commonly know as the flesh eating disease, is a potentially deadly infection if left untreated or misdiagnosed (2). The infection begins in the skin s superficial fascia, a band of connective tissue that stabilizes muscles and other internal organs. Fascia is very widespread throughout the human body, providing a basic mechanism for the bacteria to grow and spread rapidly. Once anchored in the fascial planes, the infecting bacteria cause the surrounding skin, fat, muscle, and other tissues to die. Early symptoms of necrotizing fasciitis include fever, thirst, nausea, sore throat, and minor pain around the affected area. These symptoms progress quickly and become more critical and life threatening. They include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... GAS is associated with many other common illnesses, such as pharyngitis, and scarlet fever (2). It is also a gram positive bacterium, meaning the bacterium itself has a thick cell wall made of the protein peptidoglycan. This extra protein layer makes it more susceptible to antibiotics. While this susceptibility aids in treatment once necrotizing fasciitis is diagnosed, these bacteria are carried every day by humans in our noses, throats, and skin, showing no physical symptoms. Once an object pierces the body, infection is more likely because this bacterium is so widely prevalent. When GAS causes necrotizing fasciitis, it can also occur simultaneously with Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome (STSS). This additional, and sometimes fatal condition STTS, accelerates the metastasis of necrotizing fasciitis (1). Since GAS is the most known cause of necrotizing fasciitis, researchers are actively trying to target and prevent this strand directly. Through extensive genetic analysis, a natural single nucleotide mutation has been identified and is associated with decreased presentation of necrotizing fasciitis in humans. Identifying what specific genes involving GAS result in an infectious outcome is highly useful. In the future, genome editing techniques could allow for the deactivation of genes directly related to necrotizing fasciitis, resulting in fewer diagnosed cases ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sodium Borate Lab Report In this experiment, polyvinyl acetate (C4H6O2) also know as white glue, sodium borate (Na2B4O7), and water (H2O), was used in various ratios to create bouncy balls that were afterwards tested for its final mass, bounce height, and viscosity. The bouncy balls were created by mixing ratios of glue, sodium borate, and water that is separated into two parts. The water was included in the ratio twice because of the reactions that needed to take place. Water was added to the glue in a separate cup and another separate ratio of water was added to the sodium borate. The mixtures were mixed with glass stirring rods. With the increase of children on the autism spectrum and the severity of their diagnosis becoming more pungent, public schools have found themselves braced in finding methods to educate autistic children. A complex disorder needs complex help. The idea of creating an environment at which every student will be able to meet their highest potential in their education, including those with disabilities such as autism, is existent, but whether or not that doctrine is being applied is in question. In the 1990 Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, autism is identified as an independent disability category and defined autism, by law, as a developmental disability significantly affecting verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction (Lewis and Doorlag 338). This law requires schools to give every student the chance to learn, but unfortunately does not require schools to see that the opportunity for students with special education is sufficient to their needs and effective in pushing these students to their highest potential. Children with autism do best when there is a strong partnership between the school and the home, but often the relationship is strained, or worse. There is increasing tension between parents aspirations for their child and what the school is willing to provide, observes Michael McKee, executive director of the Virginia Institute of Autism, a small nonprofit private school in Charlottesville. Hamlet emphasises his mother s sexuality as being animalistic when confronting the King and Queen about their incestual marriage, stating that she would hang on him/As if increase of appetite had grown/by what it fed on (1.2.143). In Elizabethan England, it was considered indecent and illegal to carry out an act of incest and, by copulating the marriage, Gertrude is acting in a way that does not show any reasoning.
