How Does Temperature Affect Freezing Point
Topic: Does adding different substances to water effect the freezing rate?
Objectives:
The main objective of the experiment was to find the freezing rate of water when different
substances were added. The state of changing liquid to solid is called freezing point.
Introduction:
When temperature decreases, liquid changes into solid called freezing. The temperature at which
the solid liquid change takes place depends on the purity of the substance. Melting and freezing
temperature of pure compounds is fixed. While, it may be lower by the addition of any impurity
like salt, vinegar etc. to it.
During the freezing of a solution, two forces are basically acting against each other. The first force
is the external pressure . This force exerted in the neighbouring environment and this pushes down
on to the surface of the solution. The second force is called the vapour pressure and this is caused
by the molecules in the solution trying to push upwards (against the external pressure) and to
evaporate (Ge et al., 2008).
The condition where the freezing point of a liquid is lowered by the presence of an additive
called freezing point depression . This is observed in all solutions, and the freezing point is
determined by the amount of solute particles dissolved in the solvent (Ge et al., 2009)
At the freezing point of that particular solution, the chemical potential of the solution at liquid state
and solid state will be equal. Solute particles are able to dissolve only in a

Reproduction In The Trail Of Life
Reproduction is critical when ensuring the survival of a species. As was mentioned in The Trails
of Life, an organism s main goal is to ensure that they pass along their genes to future generations.
As it is, the process of reproduction is a costly and sometimes dangerous feat. Nature provides a
plethora of issues that needto be overcome before an individual can successfully reproduce.
Difficulties can, and often do, arise in nearly every stage of reproduction. Organisms may have to
battle inauspicious environmental conditions, lack of resources, or physiological shortcomings, to
name a few of the nearly inexhaustive list of issues surrounding reproduction. Although problems
with reproduction exist, nature has evolved responses to cope with specific issues, allotting
organisms with methods... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In most cases species tend to reproduce under polygynous conditions where one male mates with
many females. An interesting example of a polygynous system in nature can be seen in the sea
louse. A male releases chemicals that attracts females, and as the females approach the male s
nesting site, he collects them and lines them in a row until he senses they are ready to mate. More
mates equate to more offspring, hence, this method for reproduction ensures that the male will pass
his genes throughout a population.
The most straight forward example of a rare monogamous mating relationship is often granted to
humans; however, in terms of other animal species, the albatross is a great example of this mating
system. Albatrosses mate for life, which is impressive being that many will live to be several
decades old. The albatrosses work together in raising their offspring. While one parent searches for
food, the other will remain with the chick often times undergoing near starvation in order to ensure
the chick is

Mortal Instruments
Main characters[edit source | editbeta]
Clarissa Clary Fray (also referred to as Fairchild and Morgenstern) is described to have long, curly
red hair and bright green eyes. She is very small and thin and often viewed as younger than she
actually is. Clary is an artist and in the first book, City of Bones, she believes she is a mundane, or
a human without angelic powers. It is later revealed she is in fact a Shadowhunter, or a human with
angelic qualities. Clary is described as being incredibly stubborn and often rushes into dangerous
situations without thinking about the consequences. Her best friend in the series is Simon Lewis
and she is dating Jace Lightwood.

Valentine was married to Clary s mother, Jocelyn, and they had two children: Jonathan and Clary.
Valentine is believed to be dead in City of Bones but at the end the reader finds out he is alive and
the father of Jace Wayland. In the following installment, City of Ashes, we discover that Valentine is
stealing the Mortal Instruments in order to raise the angel Raziel. In City of Glass, Valentine s real
son Jonathan, or Sebastian Verlac who he pretends to be in order to gain access into Idris and
earn the Shadowhunters trust, shows up and we discover that Valentine fed demonic blood to his
son in order to create a new breed of Dark Shadowhunters which are more powerful than ordinary
Shadowhunters. Valentine is killed by the angel Raziel after he raises him from Lake Lyn.
Critical reception[edit source | editbeta]
City of Bones was highly popular at the time of release, reaching #8 on the New York Times Best
Seller list (Children s books) in April 2007.[1] City of Ashes was one of the YALSA s top ten teen
books for 2009.[2]
Publishers Weekly commented that it is a sprawling urban fantasy packed with just about every
type of creature known to the genre .[3] Locus praised the book as a highly readable first novel
.[4] Booklist said that there was plenty of romance, loss, honor, and betrayal to make the journey
worthwhile. An experienced storyteller, Clare moves the plot quickly to a satisfying end. [5]

The Similarities Between Plato s Atlantis And Thera-Santorini
The Links between Plato s Atlantis and Thera/ Santorini The most popular theory to date is that
Atlantis was once located in Thera/ Santorini. Thera remains quite popular among Vulcanologists,
archaeologist, historians and Geologists as the Thera did encounter a natural disaster before Plato s
time. This natural disaster was extremely catastrophic, it had caused the island of Thera to be
uninhabitable for a number years. Reports about Theran culture suggest that they were an
intelligent and somewhat advanced culture; also their religion seemed to resemble Platos Atlantean
culture. Though unlike the various theories about Atlantis the Theran theory continues to provide
evidence that attempts to prove Atlantis existed.

Research Paper On Aids
Although advancements in AIDS research have continued over the past 2 decades, the
misconception that people can contract the AIDS virus from sharing a drink is still prevalent. Aids
is a major issue throughout the world and kills many people. One of the problems with aids is that
it can kill people. A current solution for aidsis there are medicines that people suffering from aids
take and these medicines increase a person with aids life span. A future plan for aids is to find a
cure so that people stop dying from aids. Aids is a recurring problem throughout history and it
needs to be stopped so people stop dying. Aids can spread through many ways but unprotected
sex and sharing needles for drugs are the main reasons aids spreads. This is a problem because
people can have aids for years without even knowing they have it so they can spread it through
several people in their life whether that be through drugs or sex. This is a problem because many
people can get infected because of this. Many people can get infected by one person who doesn t
know they have aids. People who get are aids deteriorating their body. A lot of people who have hiv
are unaware that they even have it ( The Scripps Research Institute ).The spread of aids is bad
because people who don t know they have it can blindlessly spread it to many people. There are
many causes for aids.

The Canon
The Formation of the Canon, 5 6 page paper. Thus far we have come to a closing about the date
and source of the individual books of the New Testament, but another questions remains
unanswered. We can ask ourselves, how did the New Testament itself come into being? Who
collected the writings and on what ideology? What conditions led to the creations of a canon, of
trustworthy books? Throughout history Christian s belief is that the Holy Spirit, who controlled
the writing of the individual books, also controlled their selection and compilation, thus continuing
to fulfill our Lord s promise that He would guide his disciples into all reality. This however, is
something that is to be discerned by spiritual insight, and not by historical... Show more content on

If any man obeyed not our word by this epistle, says Paul to one church (II Thessalonians 3: 14),
note that man, that ye have company with him. To another he makes it the test of a Spirit led man
to recognize that what he was writing to them was the commandments of the Lord (Cor 14:37).
Inevitably, such writing were received by the infant churches as of quality equal to that of the old
Bible ; placed alongside of it older books as an additional part of the one law of God; and read as
such in their meetings for worship a practice which moreover was required by the apostles (I
Thessalonians v. 27; col. 4:16; Rev. 1:3). In apprehension, therefore, of the earliest churches, the
Scriptures were not a closed but an increasing canon. Such they had been from the beginning, as
they gradually grew in number from Moses to Malachi; and such they were to continue as long
as there should remain among the churches men of God who spoke as they were moved by the
Holy Ghost. We read of the first Christian text that did not become canonized but was respected
as authentic is the first epistle of Clement of Rome, reasonably dated to 95 A.D. (M 40), and
contained in many ancient Bibles and frequently read and regarded as scripture in many churches
(M 187 8). This is relevant because even at this late date two things are observed: Clement never

Essay On Coming Of Age
Coming of age is an important event that occurs in every person s life. It happens in every
individual differently affecting everyone s life differently. Whether when a person stops seeing the
world as this perfect place and starting to accept the fact that with the good in this world bad
fellows, or understanding the world better, Harper Lee illustrates the theme of coming of age
perfectly. Over the course of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, we see the main characters Scout and
Jem start to come of age in different events of the book. Both Scout and Jem experience Coming
of Age differently. Throughout the book, both characters understand the world better while losing
their innocence. Especially when talking about Boo Radley both characters realize that Boo
wasn t locked up because he was a dad stabbing monster, it s because he wanted to as Jem said
because Boo could no longer stand this cruel world, in this scene both Scout and Jem realize that
the spooky stories they have been told about Boo weren t true. Therefore, they lost their innocence

This is simply true to the real world. A person can not be exposed to the facts of this world and
be innocent at the same time. A person can t be an adult and still believe in Santa or flying

this is a perfect world. But when coming of age they will/already are losing that innocence and
understanding the fact that not everyone is equal. It s important they know this because one day
they may not be treated fairly as well. Harper Lee clearly knows this, which is why she wrote To

Man On Wire Analysis
In an extremely rare occurrence, I watched Man on Wire twice in 24 hours. I enjoyed the movie,
which I watched because of Adam Kempenaar s continuous praise, but I don t love it enough to
merit that second viewing. On the contrary, the first time I watched it was at 11 p.m. and I had
been up since 4:30 that morning. So my mental faculties weren t at their peak, and I began to
doze off even though I liked the documentary. So I watched it again the next day, at a better time
and with more sleep, to help me clarify why I think this is a very good but not great film.
Man on Wire, James Marsh s 2008 documentary, chronicles the story of Philippe Petit, an eccentric
French tightrope walker who dreamed of performing on a wire between the Twin Towers.... Show

The walk is gratifying and somewhat beautiful and moving, but you don t quite know why.
Maybe it s because it s fun to see Petit, in photographs, finally realize his dream. Maybe it s the
payoff of seeing the heist accomplished. Maybe it s the poignancy of seeing someone with such
joy atop what became a symbol for tragedy and loss on 9/11. Regardless of the reason, you
certainly feel a swell of emotion when you see the images of Petit on the wire.
With all that being said, I do think a few things hold Man on Wire back from becoming a truly
great movie. One of those is that the lines between the recreations and archival footage that Marsh
uses is often blurred. That bothered me for some reason, possibly because I d like to know which
one is the truth.
I eventually thought, however, that I don t think documentaries can truly show us objective reality,
so that shouldn t matter. I also thought it didn t matter what was real footage and reconstructions
because regardless the talent displayed in these segments actually happened and is impressive.
Despite these conclusions, I still found myself pulled out of the movie when I couldn t deduce if
the images onscreen were archival footage or

Summary Of Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club
America for immigrants is a land where everybody can become somebody. In Two Kinds, from
an excerpt the novel, The Joy Luck Club, by Amy Tan, Jing mei s mother believed that her
daughter could become anyone that she wanted. Jing mei only wanted to become herself. Jing
mei s mother forced Jing mei to become a prodigy. At first Jing mei was excited to become a
prodigy, however, as time went on Jing mei started to hate trying to become a prodigy. It never
stopped her mother from trying to make Jing mei into a prodigy.Jing mei s perspective of her own
cultural identity, her role as daughter, and how she sees American life was different from her mother
because they were born into two different cultures.
Jing mei, American born, and her mother, Chinese born, came from two different cultural
perspective which causes them to have different views on cultural identity. Sujuan came to
America hoping her child will become a prodigy. When Jing mei and Sujuan were watching TV
Sujuan saw Shirley Temple, and at first mother thought I could be a Chinese Shirley Temple (Tan
22). Shirley Temple was an American child prodigy. This indicates that Sujuan saw her daughter as
a Chinese girl even though Jing mei was born in America. This is significant because this was how
her mother viewed Jing mei s cultural identity. Sujuan s vision of her daughter being a Chinese
Shirley Temple never happened because Jing mei did not want to be anybody expect herself. As
time continued Sujuan kept on trying to

The Cause And Effects Of The Cold War
The Cold War is a period of the history of international relations, which formally began in 1946
after the speech of Winston Churchill and ended in 1991 with the collapse of the USSR, the
Interior Ministry and the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance. This period, I believe, is very
dangerous for all mankind, because it put the world on the brink of a nuclear war that would entail
the disappearance of mankind.
In this essay I will try to examine what were the causes of cold war, if there any particular person
who could cause an aggravation in relations between the two powers America and the USSR
The rivalry between the two strongest countries of the world at that time gradually developed into
a fierce confrontation in all spheres economic, social, political and ideological. Both states created
military political associations (NATO and the Warsaw Pact), forced the growth of nuclear missiles
and conventional weapons, and also constantly took covert or explicit participation in virtually all
local military conflicts on the planet.
In my opinion, the explosion in the sphere of international relations was to no small extent
promoted by the rise of the power of the USSR and its transformation into the main actor of
international politics after the war, as well as the US desire to consolidate world leadership and
create a world based on American values, opponents (European states, like the USSR, lay in ruins
after the war, while other countries at that time could not even

CBRN Tactics
When talking about CBRN devices and tactics that may be used in a terrorist attack, people
envidiblity think about what is commonly referred to as a dirty bomb , or a RDD (radiological
dispersal device). This type of device offers many advantages to an individual or group wanting
to cause harm or more importantly cause terror. These types of devices are rudimentary in
design and their basic purpose is to spread radioactive debris in a manner that it will be absorbed
by as many people as possible. The means of spreading this material can come in various forms.
The typical design would involve explosives and a radioactive element that would disperse rapidly
upon activation of the explosive device. There are other methods that a terrorist... Show more

Any type of bomb is going to cause damage purely from the energy that is released when the
device detonates. There is great amount of kinetic force that is released in the form of a shock
wave. This alone can cause death, as well as serious injury to people in the area, and the severity
of this injury is determined by the strength of the device and proximity to the actual event at the
time of detonation. Secondary injuries or casualties might be caused from materials that are
projected by the force of the blast. Furniture, building materials, and in some cases, people
themselves can be thrown with such force that upon impact with another person can cause grave
damage. Next there is a thermal element to such a device. Detonation of any explosive creates a
large amount of heat that is a by product of the chemical reaction of the explosive material as it is
set off. People in the immediate area would be severely injured or killed by this element alone.
Once again the radius of damage would be proportional to the relative proximity to the device
upon detonation. Last but not least with this type of device is the radiological property. The
explosive element is almost secondary as it serves as a delivery method for the

Everyone will have to sign a contract at some point in their lives whether it is for rental,

circumstances of breaching the agreement. This paper will give an example of an apartment

An offer is a request from one party to another to begin a contractual obligation. An offer also
indicates a desire to be tied in by the agreement with the acceptor. An acceptance is to agree to
the conditions set forth in the contract. The action of acceptance produces the contact. We then
need to have consideration which has to be received as stated in the contract. Consideration is
the notion of legal value which can be in the form of money, services, or items, just to name a
few. Furthermore, we have legality which means all aspects of the contract must be legal. The
legality of the contract must be consistent with the law. According to FindLaw s State Laws, a
website of state specific laws, When someone agrees to rent or lease a property, they sign a lease
or rental agreement outlining the terms of the agreement. It is a legally binding contract between
the tenant and the landlord that details the rights and responsibilities of each party. When either
party violates the terms of a valid rental agreement, then the aggrieved party may seek relief in
civil court (2016, para. 1). This statement identifies the importance of legality of a contract and
specifies possible remedies. The last element needed for an enforceable contract is capacity. Both
parties must have the legal capacity to be tied into a contract which includes sound mind and age
appropriate. It is important that both parties have the capacity to understand the

It was a beautiful morning on July 5th, 2015. Nine days until my birthday! Outside the birds

downstairs to see what this was all about. Right when I turned the corner into the kitchen, I saw a

and I put Murphy in. Murphy crawled in the back corner which I thought was kinda weird, but I

Essay On American Antisemitism
Racism is over. This is the defense of many white citizens of both Europe and America when
they re called racist, or something is called thus. This is unfortunately heavily untrue for many
reasons, from the cultural appropriation by celebrities of Native and Black cultures, to the
standards of beauty fair skin, aryan features. This is only dealing with part of the problem,
however, and an issue that is often overlooked is the rampant Antisemitism in major European
countries, and even in America. From vandalism, to Russian military intervention, to the current
situation in Ukraine, Europe is far from ridding itself of conflict based on racial bias and greed.
Most white Americans and Europeans of today like to pretend that since WWII, we ve gotten
past our prejudiced, anti semitic ways. Sadly, in most of the world, this isn t the case. There are
still attacks and vandalism, and fairly often depending on where you re looking. Greek was

The Army should create multicomponent units as Infantry rather than Armored BCTs. Reserve
Component infantry formations should be able to achieve proficiency at collective training tasks

Incorporation of the National Guard requires legislative action. In order to avoid a potentially

for the similarity is because both species share a common ancestor. All animals with limbs have
a common design. If a batwing were to be formed from a person s hand, make the fingers
extremely long; a horse elongates the middle fingers and reduce and lose the outer ones; frogs
elongate the bones of the leg and fuse several of them together. All in all, despite radical changes
in what limbs do and what they look like, this underlying blueprint is always present. Before

Response To Krakauer Summary
In the editorial, Response to Krakauer, Anatoli Boukreev comments on the topic of their high
altitude journey on Mount Everest. He addresses that he did everything possible to making their
summit safe since he was experienced and Krakauer had some mistaken comments on what
happened in those weeks on Mount Everest. To begin with, Boukreeve was upset with Krakauer
because he didn t accept his intelligence of mountain climbing, Boukreeve was authorized by Scott
Fischer. So by Krakauer doubting his experience and knowledge he really did not agree with
everything that because Boukreev has summited seven of the world s largest and he also summited

A Cochlear Implant Is An Electronic Device That Substitutes
A Cochlear Implant is an electronic device that substitutes the damaged part of the inner ear to
send signals to the brain. It is used by profoundly deaf or severely deaf people. The first Cochlear
Implant was invented in the year of 1961 by Dr. William F. House. He was an american otologist,
medical researcher, and physician, born December 1st, 1923 died December 7th, 2012. Dr. William
F. House started the process of developing the Cochlear Implantduring the late 1950s, after
obtaining knowledge of other experiments going on. He decided to put his focus on ear, nose,
throat and later decided to focus strictly on the ear when parents brought him two young kids they
believed were deaf. Dr. House performed the first Cochlear Implant surgery... Show more content

Secondly the sound processor forwards the codes to what s called the coil on the outside to the
implant. After that the implant changes the code into electrical pulses and sends them out
through the nerves. Lastly the cochlear nerve is stimulated and it sends out waves to the brain
that are interpreted as sound. Over time the cochlear implant has had technology advances as
well as the size becoming smaller and easier for deaf people to use. This surgical implant has
both its benefits and disadvantages for the deaf. One of the benefits of the Cochlear Implant is
the hearing improvement, people with them have the ability to interact more from hearing
conversations, makes it to where less effort is needed to understand others. It also helps children
in school, present and future. The overall benefit for everyone is they ll be able to adventure out
more and it keeps them safer being able to hear. The downside of the implant is how expensive
the process is, and how many people have to pass up the opportunity because of the cost. Another
is that the sounds can be hurtful at first to the person and adjusting could take time. The procedure
for the Cochlear Implant is a disadvantage as well because of the risk that all surgical procedures
have, and the damage that could happen to the ear itself or face. The deaf community s feelings
about the Cochlear Implant is controversial, some believe that if one is born deaf then that s what

Developments in the Constuction of Aircrafts
Early design aircrafts were manufactured from many materials with poor properties that would
develop problems in the aircraft s life and performance. In early aircrafts, such as the Wright Flyer,
were constructed from Stika spruce, which is a natural type of fibrous composite material. This
material gave the aircraft many issues, one of them being fungal rot which then imposing a change
in the design of aircraft material. This then brought the introduction of other alternate materials;
such as aluminium, which was a boost in aircraft performance and operational life. As the
evolvement of the aerospace industry reaches the 1970s, the use of composite materials has
increased rapidly. By this time, other materials were introduced to the development of an efficient
aircraft such as steel and titanium. Composite materials are defined as materials that are created
from two or more components with considerably different chemical or physical properties. They
are designed in such a way, that when combined together, can produce materials with
characteristics completely different from the component being as an individual. The new materials
may be used and desired due to its positive reasons such as: Stronger material Lighter weight And
also less in costs when compared to the previous traditional material As mentioned above,
composite materials are now being used in a wide range in the Aircraft Industry. They have now
allowed the engineers to design and overcome difficult

The Debate Over Human Cloning Essay
Human cloning, an unknown wonder to the universe the world has yet to unfold. The idea of
cloning can be a dream to some and others not so much, there s just endless possibilities when it
comes to cloning. With the thought of cloning humans comes reality and other things that can
cause issues or keep the experiment stagnant. Reality includes the process of cloninghumans, types
of cloning, products of cloning, cost, and also ethical issues. Besides the issues and reality part of
cloning, this could be considered a huge breakthrough in life and science, maybe even cataloged
like all the other infamous discoveries scientists have breached but certain things must be talked
about, like why cloning is banned in some states and why some people would rather not even think
about cloned humans. A first thought when thinking about human cloning might include how is
this possible or what s the process and truth be told, the process can definitely seem fascinating
but not as difficult as it may appear. Scientists will likely use a method called Somatic cell nuclear
transfer or SCNT for short. Somatic cell nuclear transfer begins when scientists take an egg from a
female donor and remove the nucleus, making the egg an enucleated egg. Then, a cell with DNA
contained within is taken from the person who is being cloned. The enucleated egg and the cell
with the DNA would be fused together using electricity which creates an embryo that is then
implanted in the surrogate mother

New Hampshire Ski Trip
OMG are there yet...? It seems like we have been driving for years! When the car started to slow
down, and I heard the rumbling of my parents talking, I popped up to look out the window to see
if it was officially the start of my annual New Hampshire ski trip. The adrenaline traveled
throughout my body when we drove by the perfect snowcovered mountains. I was eager to get upon
them and skidown the light powdery sand like snow. I sprung out of the car at the sight of my
vast, log house. My condo is right at the base of the mountain so when looking out you can see
everything that s going on. The roof was covered in lush soft snow with beautiful, unique icicles
dangling from every possible platform. When going out to the back deck, there was a clear view

Latin American Authors Influence On Mexican Culture
Las mujeres son seres inferiores porque, al entregarse, se abren. Su inferioridad es constitucional y
radica en su sexo, en su rajada , herida que jamГЎs cicatriza. (p. 58 59) This mimicry allows Paz to
share an observation on Mexican culture, without commiting to the viewpoint himself. He also
occasionaly resorts to an open scathing critique. He uses this most notably when talking about the
phenomenon of machismo, who s views he reproduces above, saying that the macho Es el poder,
aislado en su misma potencia, sin relaciГіn ni compromiso con el mundo exterior and no pertenece
a nuestro mundo; no es de nuestra ciudad; no vive en nuestro barrio , a much less subtle critique
here. Narrating the existing state of the nation is partly facilitated by the genre in which he write;
Paz uses the form of the literary essay to present his critique, this establishes the non fictional
nature of the content. Latin American authors have had to create their own genres and forms,
because many found that the existing forms were unable to capture the essence that they wished
to portray, take for example the testimonio form used by Elena Poniatowska in La noche de
Tlatelolco. Although it is exactly the literary genre that Paz employs that proves problematic. It
is a paradox that El laberinto de la soledad can be seen as a paradigm of how a critical and
subversive text becomes institutionalized. (Paz, 2008:12), that which was once scandalized
becomes clichГ©d. Therefore Paz s text becomes,

The Human Stain By Philip Roth
The Human Stain
Philip Roth
Entry 1
Already I can tell that this book is more difficult than most other novels I have read. It seems as
though Roth is in favor of using long sentences and complex vocabulary. I sometimes had to
reread sentences a few times because there was difficult vocabulary I needed to look up and the
sentences were long. I needed to read each sentence piece by piece to make sure I could understand
what the author wanted to convey to the reader. Although the text seemed overwhelming when I
read the first few pages; once I began reading sentences in increments I could more easily
understand the text.

Now, further into the novel I can recognize the irony in the accusations against Coleman Silk. It
has been made clear that Coleman Silk is only passing as a Jewish American. Coleman s secret
is that he is a colored man hiding his identity. When Coleman went to college, a college for
colored students, he faced racism from people all around him. Coleman hated being seen as
inferior so he began living his life as a white man. It is terribly ironic that Coleman Silk became
the type of person he hated most by an accident with the accusations of racism. Coleman could
have made the racism accusations vanish by admitting who he really was but Coleman still chose
to keep his secret.
Entry 4
Coleman was described as a man who had worked hard to get to where he was before the spooks
incident took away his career and wife. Then the reader learns that Coleman comes from a
colored family and has been living his life as a white man since joining the U.S. Navy. I could
understand why Coleman made that decision but when I learned that he had denounced his own
mother and family I found Coleman to be completely despicable. Coleman s parents had worked
to educate Coleman and his siblings well and Coleman was not even grateful for all they gave
him. Coleman was so consumed with not being seen as inferior that he did not even hesitate to
break his mother s heart. It was here in the novel that Coleman s narcissism, superior complex and

Narrating The Nation Picasso And The Myth Of El Greco
Robert Lubar s essay Narrating the Nation: Picasso and the Myth of El Greco discusses the
aftermath of the bloody Spanish American war resulting in El Desastre del 98 in Spain which
rocked the national psyche into a period of cultural dissonance. Following the Disaster, the nation
quickly found itself in an agitated period of conflicting ideas and divisive discourses, specifically
between Madrid and Catalonia. Essentially, class divisions, regional differences, and this lack of
national identity was what gave way to the Myth of El Grecoin fin de sГЇecle Spain. Lubar proposes
that the myth connected tradition and modernity whilst illustrating the middle class pursuit to
construct hegemony for Catalan cultural nationalism.

What the history of Spanish art tells us is that the writers of history construct these cultural
discourses and emanate artistic rhetoric in order to challenge institutions and ideologies existent in
their times; where tradition serves to extol and preserve the comfortable customs in our lineage,
modernity serves to revolutionize and counter those very social constructs. If there is anything that
has become clear to me, it is that temporality and tradition, progressivism and modernity, all exist in
an intertextual phenomena within, in relation, and in conversation with each other. As Unanomo
and Ganivet pointed out in their writings, tradition simultaneously informs, and is formed by, the
present . During the era of regeneration, Castille rushed to codify culture within their targeted
political positions which could be considered as a push against the State due to political corruption,
whereas Catalonia urged a reform of economy and political culture, their position was precisely a

Functionalism In The Black Family
The family is a complex topic that can change drastically on a case by case basis. In the first
portion of this sociological analysis of families, I will be looking into Carol B. Stack s book All
Our Kin. This case study focuses on a neighborhood known as Jackson Harbor, a place where
being blood related to someone does not necessarily make you family. In addition, I will be
analyzing the family situation of my friend Lauren Lynch. Through participant observation and
an interview, I was able to uncover some useful details about her family that allowed me to
analyze them through a sociological lens. Part One: Functionalism in All of our Kin Black
families living in The Flats need a steady source of cooperative support to survive. They share
with one another because of the urgency of their needs. Alliances between individuals are
created around the clock as kin and friends exchange and give and obligate one another. They
trade food stamps, rent money, a TV, hats, dice, a car, a nickel here, a cigarette there, food, milk,
grits, and children. (Stack 32) From a functionalist point of view, we see that the exchange of
goods is a necessity for the social stability of this microcosm known as The Flats. The black
families of Jackson Harbor rely on one another to provide for themselves and would not be able to
survive without the help of the community. We can contrast this reality to Wellesley, MA where the
exchange of goods is not necessary because each family tends to have enough

Negro Spirituals
Negro Spirituals
Spirituals, a religious folk song of American origin, particularly associated with African American
Protestants of the southern United States. The African American spiritual, characterized by
syncopation, polyrhythmic structure, and the pentatonic scale of five whole tones, is, above all, a
deeply emotional song. Spirituals are really the most characteristic product of the race genius as yet
in America. But the very elements which make them uniquely expressive of the Negro make them
at the same time deeply representative of the soil that produced them. Spirituals were long thought
to be the only original folk music of the United States, and research into its origin centered mainly
on the nature and extent of its African ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this point of view we have essentially four classes, the almost ritualistic prayer songs or
pure Spirituals, the freer and more unrestrained evangelical shouts or camp meeting songs, the folk
ballads so overlaid with the tradition of the Spirituals proper that their distinctive type quality has
almost been unnoticed until lately, and the work and labor songs of strictly significant character.
Indeed, in the pure Spirituals one can trace the broken fragments of an evangelical folk liturgy,
with confession, exhortation, mourning, conversion and love feast rejoicing as the general stages
of a Protestant folk mass. It is not a question of religious content or allusion, for the great majority
of the Negro songs have this more delicate question of caliber of feeling and type of folk use. The
distinctiveness of the Spirituals after all and their finest meaning resides in their musical elements.
The characteristic beauty of the folk song is harmonic, in distinction to the more purely rhythmic
stress in the secular music of the Negro, which is the basis of ragtime and jazz ; while regarding
the one as the African component in them, and the other as the modifying influence of the religious
hymn.
In the United States the rhythmic element, though still dominant, has ceded measurably to the
melodic, the dance having given way to religious worship,

The Effects Of Dance Therapy On Different Diseases Essay
Introduction In recent years the interest in the effects of dance therapy on different diseases has
become prominent. One of the most prominent areas of study for dance therapy is its effect on
people with Parkinson s disease. Studies have focused on the overall effect on gait, balance, social
interactions, and emotional health. In order to test all of these different aspects of the studies the
most used tests are the timed up and go test (TUG) and the Berg BalanceScale (BBS). There is an
agreement that this area of research needs more research to become more reliable (Aguiar, da
Rocha, Morris, 2016). This paper examines the results that have already been found in order to
show the need for more research in the benefits of dance for people with Parkinson s disease.
Literature Review A recent study by Aguiar, da Rocha, and Morris (2016) took different studies
on dance and Parkinson s disease and compared the results. The studies that were compared were a
multitude of different dance styles including tango and the foxtrot. The idea behind the study was
to learn if the style of dance effects the outcome of the results. What they found was that these
styles were safe for people who are diagnosed with mild and moderate Parkinson s disease. The
outcomes were the increase in the ability of walking and quality of life. Participants became more
social through the duration of the different studies indicating that dance could affect social abilities
and confidence. The different

Analysis Of Boeing And Lockheed Martin
There are a multitude of aerospace manufactures in the business of building airplanes worldwide
such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin. In order to become a global leader in an ultra competitive
market, such as the aerospace industry, Boeing implements cost reducing initiatives such as lean
manufacturing practices. In order to build a complex item such as an airplane on time and on
budget, a manufacture will require a competent supply chain managementsystem to ensure all the
needed parts are available to the builders. Implementing technology such as automated equipment to
assist in the reduction of human errors and fatigue will reduces costs associated with rework caused
by human error mistakes.

that women were chained to kitchens and their spouses and children, while their dreams of careers
and college degrees were suppressed. These women had goals and dreams, and they wanted more,

was how badly these middle to upper class women wanted to work outside of their homes. By

Mefecane, Used To Describe The Events In African History
Mefecane
Introduction.
Mefecane as generally used to describe the events in African history which can be characterised
by series of wars and migration (especially the African tribes within the sub continent of Africa).
There are many schools of thought as to why these migrations and wars took place, that is
generally known as Mefecane(Wright). There are many schools of thought, based on specific
causes for the Mfecane. These schools are known by the cause they argues, the causes are
overpopulation, trade, political changes and environmental causes. This essay will however argue
that there is no monocasual exsplanation for the Mfecane, but that the Mfecane took place due to
all these causes present simitaneasly. Thus will all the monocasual causes be discuased with their
flaw, to support the idea that the Mfecane is caused by all these causes present at the same time.

Consequence Based Ethical Theory: Advocated by Jeremy Banthan
Let us first discuss Utilitarianism, on which, lies the whole development of the consequence based
ethical theory. Utilitarianism can be defined as :
An individual act (x) or a social policy (y) is morally punishable if consequences resulting from
(x) and (y) produce greatest amount of good for the greatest number of persons affected by that
policy .
All the people who believe and abide by the concept of utilitarianism are known as Utilitarian s.
Utilitarian s have always argued that the consequences by an act to the greatest number of
individuals in a given society deserve consideration in moral deliberation. They believe that if an
act produces happiness to the majority of people, then that act should be allowed.

John Stuart Mill s Elimination Of Victimless Crimes
There are thousands of laws on the books that are rarely enforced by law enforcement personnel.
Numerous laws are violated each day, in private, and do not raise the suspicion of the police or
any other person. Does that mean there were no victims of a crime? Unfortunately no. There is a
large contingent of people that want to keep the state out of an individual s private lives and
suggest there are many victimless crimes that should never be enforced and stricken from the law
books. Regrettably every crimethat is committed has a victim, whether directly or indirectly that
affects society as a whole.
In order to appreciate the concept that there are no victimless crimes there needs to be an
understanding to the counter argument. According to John Locke, he states that individuals should
almost always be left alone to live their lives without interference from the state or government.
Additionally, John Stuart Mill developed the harm principle which ... Show more content on

crimes should be abolished are unaware of the potential victims that are created from their
actions. For example, an individual smoking marijuana in his home with no one around could
lose their job because of the positive drug test or their impaired behavior, have no additional
income, and turn to theft and burglary to support their habit and pay the bills. Even more serious
would be that same individual leaving his home after smoking marijuana is involved in a major
accident that either seriously injure or kill himself or someone else. Both of these scenarios
proves there was no direct victim that was caused harm by this alleged victimless crime, but this
also shows there is a long list of secondary victims associated with smoking

ticket from Grand Island to Orlando with Expedia. I did not cancel my previous round trip flight
tickets because I already bought a returning ticket from Orlando to Omaha. Even though I
canceled the flight tickets, I could not gain all amounts of the fare of the ticket. Therefore, I
decided that I would come back from Orlando to Omaha with my original flight plan. However,
when I went back from Orlando to Omaha and I checked out at the Orlando airport, one of the
staff said my flight ticket was canceled and I had to pay other a few dollars in order to take the
same plane. I was so angry that even though I did not cancel my flight, it was automatically
canceled and I needed to pay for my flight ticket again. I thought it was ridiculous. I claimed that I
did not cancel my flight tickets, but she said it was canceled because I did not ride on my original
flight plan. Reluctantly, I paid for my flight again. I thought

Head Injury In Sports
Head injuries have always been a huge deal in sports. Player can t just jump right back in after
they get a concussion; They need to take time and heal before coming back to the game. The
consequences of playing while still injured is insane with long term effects and short term the
player needs to make sure he/she is fully healed before returning to the field.
The Brain is one of the most vital parts of the body so when a player is hurt in a game it s very
important that they get the help they need and off the field as soon as possible this is already
happening with sideline medics at most if not every game ready to assist players when injured
when a concussion happens on the field they are helped and taken out of the game. A concussion

The American Legion s Product Development By Implementing...
Strategic Alternatives The few strategies that I suggest that the American legion begins to use are
to attempt product development by implementing social media as a marketing tool. By using
social media as a huge part of the marketing this allows the American Legion to see exactly how
many people are viewing their ads. It also gives them the chance to customize who they exactly
want to target. This can allow for less old school marketingsuch as magazines, post cards,
newspapers, or ads which all of these allowed the Legion to waste of lot of money per year on
them. As I have stressed many times throughout this paper, the net assets have been cut in over
half in the last four years alone. They have high expenses and a lot of it was... Show more content

Strategy Choice and Rationale If the American Legion reached out to their competitors such as
collaborating with the Wounded Warriors Project, Disables American Veterans (DAV), Veterans
of Foreign Wars (VFW), or the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) would be effectively
embracing trade offs with offering something to other organizations as well effectively gaining
something from other organizations as well. I would love to see the American Legion get
together with all of these organizations, putting a large event on, have a few celebrities show up
as well and really put the American Legion on the map and leveraging other outlets than just their
own endeavors. Having a strategy of strategies is crucial especially at the tipping point of where
the Legion is as a whole; in class we have discussed many great ideas as a small group of
individuals with business mindsets, as outsiders and some from younger generations are able to put
our twist on the Strategies of the American Legion and pinpoint both the strengths and weaknesses.
The Legion needs to have a plan to execute these strategies and roll them out and act on them.
Strategy Implementation: Alignment Our course pack touches on the concept of structure follow
strategy and then is quoted saying, U.S. Corporations evolved over

Tenure, A Significant Reward For Teachers
Tenure, A Significant Reward For Teachers According to data gathered by the National Center for
Education Statistics in 2015, there are about 50.1 million public school students and 3.1 million
teachers in the United States. When the number of teachers is not enough to meet the demand for
teaching, the student/teacher ratio will rise. In order to recruit teachers more effectively, we need to
improve the training programs and the teachers rights. In the early 19th century, the National
EducationAssociation introduced tenure. Before tenure, teachers could be fired for religion, race,
political standing, personal reasons, and for voicing their opinions. Tenure is simply a contractual
right to protect teachers from unfair expulsion for arbitrary or unjustified reasons (Robertson 465).
Furthermore, tenure is only granted to teachers after a reasonable working period. We shouldn t
eliminate the tenure system because it protects teachers from unfair dismissal, helps school
administrators work more effectively, and attracts people to the teaching profession.
First, tenure protects teachers from unfair dismissal. Teachers cannot be fired after a few
complaints from problematic students and their parents. Teachers also cannot be fired if they miss
their class because of some emergencies, such as caring for their child, getting into a car accident,
or taking time off to spend with sick family members. In probationary time, before tenure is granted,
school administrators can fire

Osteoporosis Is An Age Related Disease Of The Skeletal System
Introduction:
Osteoporosis is an age related disease of the skeletal system characterized by both low bone mass
and bone structural degeneration (Nunes, 2011). Understanding osteoporosis is important because
it is continues to be overlooked and undertreated, causing high numbers of bone fractures each year
in the elderly, these bone fractures can be debilitating or even life threatening (Eastell, 2009).
Osteoporosis manifests when an imbalance between bone resorption and bone rebuilding occurs
this is due to changes in osteoclast and osteoblast activity. I chose this topic because osteoporosis
affects millions of people, and research will allow me to better understand this common yet
complex, and very perilous bone disease.
Types:
There are two types of osteoporosis, primary and secondary. Primary osteoporosis is more
common and has no direct cause. It is usually more prevalent in women who are postmenopausal
where the rate of bone loss increases while the rate of bone regeneration decreases. Secondary
osteoporosis, unlike primary, has a direct cause, such as an illness like leukemia, cushings
syndrome, or type 1 diabetes. These diseases cause an increase in bone resorption, and weakening
of the bones.
Pathophysiology:
Bones are made up of two layers, the trabecular and cortical layers. The trabecular layer is internal
and spongy like, where the cortical layer is external and more compact. These layers are
continuously broken down and reformed by two cells known as

Strategies For Resolving Team Conflict Essay
Dealing with conflict is always a challenging situation, which requires team members to be
integrated into a single, organized unit (Bolger, 2003). Conflict among teams is bound to occur no
matter how much one tries to avoid it. While resolving all conflicts is not possible, these conflicts
can be dealt with using the correct methodology. To address teamconflictthere are five methods:
Accommodate, Compromise, Enforce, Explore, and Postpone (Bolger, 2003).
Accommodation Bases for using the accommodation strategy occurs when working together to
accomplish goals are far more important than sorting out personal differences. This means that
individuals or teams decide to go along with another s point of view or decision. ... Show more

However, this objective is generally thought to be the best approach in addressing conflict since the
goal is to reach consensus (Barker, et al., 1991).
Enforce To enforce is to take what ever steps are required to back a non negotiable mind set. In
many cases this mind set occurs when an individual feels strongly about ones point of view and
takes a non compromising stance on the issue. This strategy should be used to assume a firm
position; for example when there is not enough time to conduct an ongoing discussion about a
given subject. However, in the event that this strategy is used excessively, some team members
could consider themselves losers and try to retaliate. Additionally, it is also possible that team
members could become too frustrated to voice their points of view or will no longer even try to
participate (Fisher, et al., 1991). If this strategy is under used, one may be perceived as lacking
assertiveness or be seen as being vulnerable.
Explore The Explore strategy is used when team members or other teams develop and investigate
new ideas together. This approach produces a high level of satisfaction since the group feels a
large amount of pride in ownership and accomplishment by all their needs being met (Miles
Mangold, 2002). The Explore strategy is also beneficial because solutions are discovered that had
not been previously considered by the

Emily Dickinson Influences
Although Emily Dickinson was a complete recluse and was not recognized in her own time, she is
now recognized as one of the most influential poets in American Literature. Emily s work has left a
strong mark on today s writers. Dickinson began writing as a teenager with influences of her own.
Leonard Humphrey, principal of Amherst Academy, and a family friend named Benjamin Franklin
Newton, who sent Dickinson a book of poetryby Ralph Waldo Emerson, impacted and encouraged
her private works (Emily DickinsonBiography). While Emily s work was brilliant, very little of
Dickinson s work was published in her lifetime, nor was it heavily publicized at the time of her
death in 1886. However, her sister discovered most of her poetry shortly after her... Show more

While Emily s poetry often hinted at an unknown lover, her preserved letters give a sombre
reflection. Until Dickinson was in her mid 20s, her writing mostly took the form of letters. These
letters she sent out consist of a surprising number of those that she wrote from age 11 onward that
have now been preserved. She often sent to her brother, Austin, or to her own female friends,
including Abiah Root, Jane Humphrey, and Susan Gilbert. Susan would later marry Emily s elder
brother, Austin. These honorable communications overflow with humour, story telling, intellectual
interest, and dark reflection. Throughout her letters, one could infer that Emily Dickinson had given
and demanded more from her correspondents than she had received. She frequently construed that
her correspondents lack of response as confirmation of abandonment or even disloyalty.
Nonetheless, the loss of friends, whether through death or declining interest, became an underlying
commodity for Dickinson. Much of Emily s writing, both poetic and the form of letters, seems
premised on a feeling of abandonment and a matching attempt to oppose, overcome, or reflect on a
sense of loneliness. There are very few letters that remain today. Emily had previously asked that her

Social Security Problem In America
Many Americans believe that the social security program will face a crisis in this century because
of funds running out. The fear of the people is that he government s funds will be bankrupt when
those people try to retire. Already a quarter of most Americans believe that they will receive no
benefits from social security; what can we do about the social security problem? The reason that
the problem is occurring is because of pay as you go financing, demographic changes, the adoption
of wage indexing of the benefit formula in the 1970s. Due to the baby boomer generation, there are
more americans retiring than ever. The younger generation has to pay for the older people retiring,
but the problem is that there are less young people entering the

Aum Shinrikyo Religious Group Case Study
The 1995 Sarin Attacks on the Japanese Subway System by Aum Shinrikyo exposed the need of
improving the Japanese Intelligence database, emergency management and training for emergency
services.
On March 20, 1995 at approximately 0600 hours, members of the Aum Shinrikyo religious group
launched one of the most deadly attacks Japanese citizens had seen since WWII. The attacks were
conducted by members of the Aum Shinrikyo religious group lead by Shoko Asahara, who was the
founder of the religious group. The members of Aum Shinrikyo were targeting mass casualties to
show their dissatisfaction with the Japanese Government. Five members of the Aum Shinrikyo
religious group managed to conduct the attack by depositing Sarin, which is a nerve agent,
classified as a weapon of mass destruction. (Chemical weapons 101: Six facts about sarin and Syria
s stockpile), into plastic bags and covering them with newspapers to avoid unwanted attention, then
they transported them into different trains, attempting to kill as many people possible. After the
members of Aum Shinrikyo religious group entered into the trains, they dropped the plastics bags to
the ground and managed to make holes in the plastic bags with the tip of umbrellas they were
carrying, then they exited the car. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Kill Devil Hill Challenges
Think about inventing something that no one has never imagined before. Wouldn t it be cool?
Now imagine how hard it would be. Really hard right? Well, while constructing the first aircraft,
the Wright brothers went through many problems and challenges, but they had to learn how to
overcome them. For example, they went through weather issues, religious problems and
technical difficulties. They must of had incredible inventing skills to overcome these
complicated challenges! The weather in Kill Devil Hill affected the process of inventing the
first motorized aircraft. When the aircraft first arrived in Kill Devil Hills, the weather was
despot and stormy, however, that challenge did not stop the brothers. They kept on working on
assembling the aircraft. After a crash, the airplane was ready to fly again. on the day it was
planned to fly, the winds were too strong. The wind was going at a speed of 25 miles per hour.
The Wright brothers waited a while for the winds to slow down, but it never did, so the brothers
tried anyways. There was a major problem that hindered the use of the first motorized aircraft. That
problem was that the brothers wanted to try one last time to stay in the air for one whole minute.

Since that day was a Sunday, they could not fly that day, according to the promise that the Wrights
brothers made to their father, who was a very platonic person. The promise that they would not fly
on Sundays. Adding to that, the brothers were all ready behind schedule, so they planned for the

Definition Of Burden And Standard Of Proof
Burden and Standard of Proof
The expression of burden of proof is the obligation to prove. There are two principal kinds of
burden, legal burden and the evidential burden. The legal burden
The legal burden is referred as the burden of proof. The legal burden may be defined as the
obligation imposed on a party by a rule of law to prove a fact in issue. Generally the claimant will
bear the legal burden of proving each element of his claim, in which he has to present his evidence
first. Thus, the claimant can only discharge his legal burden of proof once the defendant has
presented his case. However, the claimant will not know if they have been successful in
discharging the legal burden until the judge has given the judgement at the very end of the case.
Failure to discharge the burden of proof, the claimant will not have a case to put forward.
The evidential burden
As Lord Bingham has stated in Sheldrake , an evidential burden is not a burden of proof. It is a
burden of raising, on the evidence in the case, an issue as to the matter in question fit for
consideration by the tribunal of fact .
The evidential burden is referred as the burden of adducing evidence and the duty of passing the
judge. In a criminal trial, the prosecution will bear the evidential burden.
The prosecution must adduce sufficient evidence for the judge to not withdraw the case. Thus, even
if the prosecution has discharged the evidential evidence, it does not mean the accused will lose. The

  • 2. How Does Temperature Affect Freezing Point Topic: Does adding different substances to water effect the freezing rate? Objectives: The main objective of the experiment was to find the freezing rate of water when different substances were added. The state of changing liquid to solid is called freezing point. Introduction: When temperature decreases, liquid changes into solid called freezing. The temperature at which the solid liquid change takes place depends on the purity of the substance. Melting and freezing temperature of pure compounds is fixed. While, it may be lower by the addition of any impurity like salt, vinegar etc. to it. During the freezing of a solution, two forces are basically acting against each other. The first force is the external pressure . This force exerted in the neighbouring environment and this pushes down on to the surface of the solution. The second force is called the vapour pressure and this is caused by the molecules in the solution trying to push upwards (against the external pressure) and to evaporate (Ge et al., 2008). The condition where the freezing point of a liquid is lowered by the presence of an additive called freezing point depression . This is observed in all solutions, and the freezing point is determined by the amount of solute particles dissolved in the solvent (Ge et al., 2009) At the freezing point of that particular solution, the chemical potential of the solution at liquid state and solid state will be equal. Solute particles are able to dissolve only in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Reproduction In The Trail Of Life Reproduction is critical when ensuring the survival of a species. As was mentioned in The Trails of Life, an organism s main goal is to ensure that they pass along their genes to future generations. As it is, the process of reproduction is a costly and sometimes dangerous feat. Nature provides a plethora of issues that needto be overcome before an individual can successfully reproduce. Difficulties can, and often do, arise in nearly every stage of reproduction. Organisms may have to battle inauspicious environmental conditions, lack of resources, or physiological shortcomings, to name a few of the nearly inexhaustive list of issues surrounding reproduction. Although problems with reproduction exist, nature has evolved responses to cope with specific issues, allotting organisms with methods... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In most cases species tend to reproduce under polygynous conditions where one male mates with many females. An interesting example of a polygynous system in nature can be seen in the sea louse. A male releases chemicals that attracts females, and as the females approach the male s nesting site, he collects them and lines them in a row until he senses they are ready to mate. More mates equate to more offspring, hence, this method for reproduction ensures that the male will pass his genes throughout a population. The most straight forward example of a rare monogamous mating relationship is often granted to humans; however, in terms of other animal species, the albatross is a great example of this mating system. Albatrosses mate for life, which is impressive being that many will live to be several decades old. The albatrosses work together in raising their offspring. While one parent searches for food, the other will remain with the chick often times undergoing near starvation in order to ensure the chick is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She is very small and thin and often viewed as younger than she actually is. Clary is an artist and in the first book, City of Bones, she believes she is a mundane, or a human without angelic powers. It is later revealed she is in fact a Shadowhunter, or a human with angelic qualities. Clary is described as being incredibly stubborn and often rushes into dangerous situations without thinking about the consequences. Her best friend in the series is Simon Lewis and she is dating Jace Lightwood. Jace Lightwood (also been referred as Wayland, Morgenstern, and Herondale)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Valentine was married to Clary s mother, Jocelyn, and they had two children: Jonathan and Clary. Valentine is believed to be dead in City of Bones but at the end the reader finds out he is alive and the father of Jace Wayland. In the following installment, City of Ashes, we discover that Valentine is stealing the Mortal Instruments in order to raise the angel Raziel. In City of Glass, Valentine s real son Jonathan, or Sebastian Verlac who he pretends to be in order to gain access into Idris and earn the Shadowhunters trust, shows up and we discover that Valentine fed demonic blood to his son in order to create a new breed of Dark Shadowhunters which are more powerful than ordinary Shadowhunters. Valentine is killed by the angel Raziel after he raises him from Lake Lyn. Critical reception[edit source | editbeta] City of Bones was highly popular at the time of release, reaching #8 on the New York Times Best Seller list (Children s books) in April 2007.[1] City of Ashes was one of the YALSA s top ten teen books for 2009.[2] Publishers Weekly commented that it is a sprawling urban fantasy packed with just about every type of creature known to the genre .[3] Locus praised the book as a highly readable first novel .[4] Booklist said that there was plenty of romance, loss, honor, and betrayal to make the journey worthwhile. • 5. The Similarities Between Plato s Atlantis And Thera-Santorini The Links between Plato s Atlantis and Thera/ Santorini The most popular theory to date is that Atlantis was once located in Thera/ Santorini. Thera remains quite popular among Vulcanologists, archaeologist, historians and Geologists as the Thera did encounter a natural disaster before Plato s time. This natural disaster was extremely catastrophic, it had caused the island of Thera to be uninhabitable for a number years. Reports about Theran culture suggest that they were an intelligent and somewhat advanced culture; also their religion seemed to resemble Platos Atlantean culture. • 7. The Canon The Formation of the Canon, 5 6 page paper. Thus far we have come to a closing about the date and source of the individual books of the New Testament, but another questions remains unanswered. We can ask ourselves, how did the New Testament itself come into being? Who collected the writings and on what ideology? What conditions led to the creations of a canon, of trustworthy books? Throughout history Christian s belief is that the Holy Spirit, who controlled the writing of the individual books, also controlled their selection and compilation, thus continuing to fulfill our Lord s promise that He would guide his disciples into all reality. This however, is something that is to be discerned by spiritual insight, and not by historical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If any man obeyed not our word by this epistle, says Paul to one church (II Thessalonians 3: 14), note that man, that ye have company with him. To another he makes it the test of a Spirit led man to recognize that what he was writing to them was the commandments of the Lord (Cor 14:37). Inevitably, such writing were received by the infant churches as of quality equal to that of the old Bible ; placed alongside of it older books as an additional part of the one law of God; and read as such in their meetings for worship a practice which moreover was required by the apostles (I Thessalonians v. 27; col. 4:16; Rev. 1:3). In apprehension, therefore, of the earliest churches, the Scriptures were not a closed but an increasing canon. Such they had been from the beginning, as they gradually grew in number from Moses to Malachi; and such they were to continue as long as there should remain among the churches men of God who spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. We read of the first Christian text that did not become canonized but was respected as authentic is the first epistle of Clement of Rome, reasonably dated to 95 A.D. (M 40), and contained in many ancient Bibles and frequently read and regarded as scripture in many churches (M 187 8). Whether when a person stops seeing the world as this perfect place and starting to accept the fact that with the good in this world bad fellows, or understanding the world better, Harper Lee illustrates the theme of coming of age perfectly. Over the course of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, we see the main characters Scout and Jem start to come of age in different events of the book. Both Scout and Jem experience Coming of Age differently. Throughout the book, both characters understand the world better while losing their innocence. Especially when talking about Boo Radley both characters realize that Boo wasn t locked up because he was a dad stabbing monster, it s because he wanted to as Jem said because Boo could no longer stand this cruel world, in this scene both Scout and Jem realize that the spooky stories they have been told about Boo weren t true. • 9. Man On Wire Analysis In an extremely rare occurrence, I watched Man on Wire twice in 24 hours. I enjoyed the movie, which I watched because of Adam Kempenaar s continuous praise, but I don t love it enough to merit that second viewing. On the contrary, the first time I watched it was at 11 p.m. and I had been up since 4:30 that morning. So my mental faculties weren t at their peak, and I began to doze off even though I liked the documentary. So I watched it again the next day, at a better time and with more sleep, to help me clarify why I think this is a very good but not great film. Man on Wire, James Marsh s 2008 documentary, chronicles the story of Philippe Petit, an eccentric French tightrope walker who dreamed of performing on a wire between the Twin Towers.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The walk is gratifying and somewhat beautiful and moving, but you don t quite know why. Maybe it s because it s fun to see Petit, in photographs, finally realize his dream. Maybe it s the payoff of seeing the heist accomplished. Maybe it s the poignancy of seeing someone with such joy atop what became a symbol for tragedy and loss on 9/11. Regardless of the reason, you certainly feel a swell of emotion when you see the images of Petit on the wire. With all that being said, I do think a few things hold Man on Wire back from becoming a truly great movie. One of those is that the lines between the recreations and archival footage that Marsh uses is often blurred. That bothered me for some reason, possibly because I d like to know which one is the truth. I eventually thought, however, that I don t think documentaries can truly show us objective reality, so that shouldn t matter. I also thought it didn t matter what was real footage and reconstructions because regardless the talent displayed in these segments actually happened and is impressive. Despite these conclusions, I still found myself pulled out of the movie when I couldn t deduce if the images onscreen were archival footage or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Two Kinds, from an excerpt the novel, The Joy Luck Club, by Amy Tan, Jing mei s mother believed that her daughter could become anyone that she wanted. Jing mei only wanted to become herself. Jing mei s mother forced Jing mei to become a prodigy. At first Jing mei was excited to become a prodigy, however, as time went on Jing mei started to hate trying to become a prodigy. It never stopped her mother from trying to make Jing mei into a prodigy.Jing mei s perspective of her own cultural identity, her role as daughter, and how she sees American life was different from her mother because they were born into two different cultures. Jing mei, American born, and her mother, Chinese born, came from two different cultural perspective which causes them to have different views on cultural identity. Sujuan came to America hoping her child will become a prodigy. When Jing mei and Sujuan were watching TV Sujuan saw Shirley Temple, and at first mother thought I could be a Chinese Shirley Temple (Tan 22). Shirley Temple was an American child prodigy. This indicates that Sujuan saw her daughter as a Chinese girl even though Jing mei was born in America. This is significant because this was how her mother viewed Jing mei s cultural identity. • 11. The Cause And Effects Of The Cold War The Cold War is a period of the history of international relations, which formally began in 1946 after the speech of Winston Churchill and ended in 1991 with the collapse of the USSR, the Interior Ministry and the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance. This period, I believe, is very dangerous for all mankind, because it put the world on the brink of a nuclear war that would entail the disappearance of mankind. In this essay I will try to examine what were the causes of cold war, if there any particular person who could cause an aggravation in relations between the two powers America and the USSR The rivalry between the two strongest countries of the world at that time gradually developed into a fierce confrontation in all spheres economic, social, political and ideological. Both states created military political associations (NATO and the Warsaw Pact), forced the growth of nuclear missiles and conventional weapons, and also constantly took covert or explicit participation in virtually all local military conflicts on the planet. In my opinion, the explosion in the sphere of international relations was to no small extent promoted by the rise of the power of the USSR and its transformation into the main actor of international politics after the war, as well as the US desire to consolidate world leadership and create a world based on American values, opponents (European states, like the USSR, lay in ruins after the war, while other countries at that time could not even ... CBRN Tactics When talking about CBRN devices and tactics that may be used in a terrorist attack, people envidiblity think about what is commonly referred to as a dirty bomb , or a RDD (radiological dispersal device). This type of device offers many advantages to an individual or group wanting to cause harm or more importantly cause terror. These types of devices are rudimentary in design and their basic purpose is to spread radioactive debris in a manner that it will be absorbed by as many people as possible. The means of spreading this material can come in various forms. The typical design would involve explosives and a radioactive element that would disperse rapidly upon activation of the explosive device. There are other methods that a terrorist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Any type of bomb is going to cause damage purely from the energy that is released when the device detonates. There is great amount of kinetic force that is released in the form of a shock wave. This alone can cause death, as well as serious injury to people in the area, and the severity of this injury is determined by the strength of the device and proximity to the actual event at the time of detonation. Secondary injuries or casualties might be caused from materials that are projected by the force of the blast. Furniture, building materials, and in some cases, people themselves can be thrown with such force that upon impact with another person can cause grave damage. Next there is a thermal element to such a device. Detonation of any explosive creates a large amount of heat that is a by product of the chemical reaction of the explosive material as it is set off. People in the immediate area would be severely injured or killed by this element alone. Once again the radius of damage would be proportional to the relative proximity to the device upon detonation. Last but not least with this type of device is the radiological property. The explosive element is almost secondary as it serves as a delivery method for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An offer also indicates a desire to be tied in by the agreement with the acceptor. An acceptance is to agree to the conditions set forth in the contract. The action of acceptance produces the contact. We then need to have consideration which has to be received as stated in the contract. Consideration is the notion of legal value which can be in the form of money, services, or items, just to name a few. Furthermore, we have legality which means all aspects of the contract must be legal. The legality of the contract must be consistent with the law. According to FindLaw s State Laws, a website of state specific laws, When someone agrees to rent or lease a property, they sign a lease or rental agreement outlining the terms of the agreement. It is a legally binding contract between the tenant and the landlord that details the rights and responsibilities of each party. When either party violates the terms of a valid rental agreement, then the aggrieved party may seek relief in civil court (2016, para. 1). This statement identifies the importance of legality of a contract and specifies possible remedies. The last element needed for an enforceable contract is capacity. On the way to the store, he was shaking like he was scared, and I had a feeling he didn t like being in a car. When we got to Lowes, my mom and I stayed in the car with Murphy while my dad went in to get the carrier. About 15 minutes later, my dad came out with a small carrier. It was blue, with black edges. It was perfect! When my dad got in the car, he gave me the carrier and I put Murphy in. Murphy crawled in the back corner which I thought was kinda weird, but I guess he must feel safer there. I kept wanting to take him out and hold him, but my parents said that we should keep him in his carrier. Once we got home, I put him on the leash and took him out in the backyard to play with him. • 15. Essay On American Antisemitism Racism is over. This is the defense of many white citizens of both Europe and America when they re called racist, or something is called thus. This is unfortunately heavily untrue for many reasons, from the cultural appropriation by celebrities of Native and Black cultures, to the standards of beauty fair skin, aryan features. This is only dealing with part of the problem, however, and an issue that is often overlooked is the rampant Antisemitism in major European countries, and even in America. From vandalism, to Russian military intervention, to the current situation in Ukraine, Europe is far from ridding itself of conflict based on racial bias and greed. Most white Americans and Europeans of today like to pretend that since WWII, we ve gotten past our prejudiced, anti semitic ways. Sadly, in most of the world, this isn t the case. There are still attacks and vandalism, and fairly often depending on where you re looking. (3) Incorporation of the National Guard requires legislative action. In order to avoid a potentially difficult and lengthy fight to change existing laws, the Army could create multicomponent BCTs composed of Active Duty and Army Reserve formations only. When first hearing this theory, for anyone it is hard to believe. Humans have fingers and fishes have fins! They have gills and we have lungs! Many things point towards the fact that humans have nothing in common with fish until one looks at the bone structure of each and how exceptionally similar they are. The reason for the similarity is because both species share a common ancestor. All animals with limbs have a common design. If a batwing were to be formed from a person s hand, make the fingers extremely long; a horse elongates the middle fingers and reduce and lose the outer ones; frogs elongate the bones of the leg and fuse several of them together. He was an american otologist, medical researcher, and physician, born December 1st, 1923 died December 7th, 2012. Dr. William F. House started the process of developing the Cochlear Implantduring the late 1950s, after obtaining knowledge of other experiments going on. After that the implant changes the code into electrical pulses and sends them out through the nerves. Lastly the cochlear nerve is stimulated and it sends out waves to the brain that are interpreted as sound. Over time the cochlear implant has had technology advances as well as the size becoming smaller and easier for deaf people to use. This surgical implant has both its benefits and disadvantages for the deaf. One of the benefits of the Cochlear Implant is the hearing improvement, people with them have the ability to interact more from hearing conversations, makes it to where less effort is needed to understand others. It also helps children in school, present and future. The overall benefit for everyone is they ll be able to adventure out more and it keeps them safer being able to hear. The downside of the implant is how expensive the process is, and how many people have to pass up the opportunity because of the cost. Another is that the sounds can be hurtful at first to the person and adjusting could take time. The procedure for the Cochlear Implant is a disadvantage as well because of the risk that all surgical procedures have, and the damage that could happen to the ear itself or face. Developments in the Constuction of Aircrafts Early design aircrafts were manufactured from many materials with poor properties that would develop problems in the aircraft s life and performance. In early aircrafts, such as the Wright Flyer, were constructed from Stika spruce, which is a natural type of fibrous composite material. This material gave the aircraft many issues, one of them being fungal rot which then imposing a change in the design of aircraft material. This then brought the introduction of other alternate materials; such as aluminium, which was a boost in aircraft performance and operational life. As the evolvement of the aerospace industry reaches the 1970s, the use of composite materials has increased rapidly. By this time, other materials were introduced to the development of an efficient aircraft such as steel and titanium. Composite materials are defined as materials that are created from two or more components with considerably different chemical or physical properties. They are designed in such a way, that when combined together, can produce materials with characteristics completely different from the component being as an individual. The new materials may be used and desired due to its positive reasons such as: Stronger material Lighter weight And also less in costs when compared to the previous traditional material As mentioned above, composite materials are now being used in a wide range in the Aircraft Industry. Su inferioridad es constitucional y radica en su sexo, en su rajada , herida que jamГЎs cicatriza. (p. 58 59) This mimicry allows Paz to share an observation on Mexican culture, without commiting to the viewpoint himself. He also occasionaly resorts to an open scathing critique. He uses this most notably when talking about the phenomenon of machismo, who s views he reproduces above, saying that the macho Es el poder, aislado en su misma potencia, sin relaciГіn ni compromiso con el mundo exterior and no pertenece a nuestro mundo; no es de nuestra ciudad; no vive en nuestro barrio , a much less subtle critique here. Narrating the existing state of the nation is partly facilitated by the genre in which he write; Paz uses the form of the literary essay to present his critique, this establishes the non fictional nature of the content. Latin American authors have had to create their own genres and forms, because many found that the existing forms were unable to capture the essence that they wished to portray, take for example the testimonio form used by Elena Poniatowska in La noche de Tlatelolco. Although it is exactly the literary genre that Paz employs that proves problematic. This case study focuses on a neighborhood known as Jackson Harbor, a place where being blood related to someone does not necessarily make you family. In addition, I will be analyzing the family situation of my friend Lauren Lynch. Through participant observation and an interview, I was able to uncover some useful details about her family that allowed me to analyze them through a sociological lens. Alliances between individuals are created around the clock as kin and friends exchange and give and obligate one another. They trade food stamps, rent money, a TV, hats, dice, a car, a nickel here, a cigarette there, food, milk, grits, and children. Friedan describes an ideal that middle class women of the 1960s were held to. She highlights that women were chained to kitchens and their spouses and children, while their dreams of careers and college degrees were suppressed. These women had goals and dreams, and they wanted more, but as Friedan describes, it was nearly impossible to break through the feminine mystique. Friedan argues that the stereotypes, occupations, and marriages that the women held caused the feminine mystique, however, she misses important structural issues, such... These women in offices and labs had to put forth tremendous effort to achieve their career goals, but were left out of Betty Friedan s arguments, quite possibly so that competitors could not merely claim that housewives were just lazy and taking the easy way out. If a woman wanted a job, she was capable of getting one. At the time The Feminine Mystique was published, two thirds of the women in America were actually already part of the working class. What it really came down to was how badly these middle to upper class women wanted to work outside of their homes. Numerous laws are violated each day, in private, and do not raise the suspicion of the police or any other person. Does that mean there were no victims of a crime? Unfortunately no. There is a large contingent of people that want to keep the state out of an individual s private lives and suggest there are many victimless crimes that should never be enforced and stricken from the law books. Regrettably every crimethat is committed has a victim, whether directly or indirectly that affects society as a whole. In order to appreciate the concept that there are no victimless crimes there needs to be an understanding to the counter argument. Tenure, A Significant Reward For Teachers Tenure, A Significant Reward For Teachers According to data gathered by the National Center for Education Statistics in 2015, there are about 50.1 million public school students and 3.1 million teachers in the United States. When the number of teachers is not enough to meet the demand for teaching, the student/teacher ratio will rise. In order to recruit teachers more effectively, we need to improve the training programs and the teachers rights. In the early 19th century, the National EducationAssociation introduced tenure. Before tenure, teachers could be fired for religion, race, political standing, personal reasons, and for voicing their opinions. Tenure is simply a contractual right to protect teachers from unfair expulsion for arbitrary or unjustified reasons (Robertson 465). Furthermore, tenure is only granted to teachers after a reasonable working period. We shouldn t eliminate the tenure system because it protects teachers from unfair dismissal, helps school administrators work more effectively, and attracts people to the teaching profession. First, tenure protects teachers from unfair dismissal. Teachers cannot be fired after a few complaints from problematic students and their parents. Teachers also cannot be fired if they miss their class because of some emergencies, such as caring for their child, getting into a car accident, or taking time off to spend with sick family members. Understanding osteoporosis is important because it is continues to be overlooked and undertreated, causing high numbers of bone fractures each year in the elderly, these bone fractures can be debilitating or even life threatening (Eastell, 2009). Osteoporosis manifests when an imbalance between bone resorption and bone rebuilding occurs this is due to changes in osteoclast and osteoblast activity. I chose this topic because osteoporosis affects millions of people, and research will allow me to better understand this common yet complex, and very perilous bone disease. Types: There are two types of osteoporosis, primary and secondary. Primary osteoporosis is more common and has no direct cause. It is usually more prevalent in women who are postmenopausal where the rate of bone loss increases while the rate of bone regeneration decreases. Secondary osteoporosis, unlike primary, has a direct cause, such as an illness like leukemia, cushings syndrome, or type 1 diabetes. These diseases cause an increase in bone resorption, and weakening of the bones. Pathophysiology: Bones are made up of two layers, the trabecular and cortical layers. The trabecular layer is internal and spongy like, where the cortical layer is external and more compact. These layers are continuously broken down and reformed by two cells known as ... To address teamconflictthere are five methods: Accommodate, Compromise, Enforce, Explore, and Postpone (Bolger, 2003). However, this objective is generally thought to be the best approach in addressing conflict since the goal is to reach consensus (Barker, et al., 1991). Enforce To enforce is to take what ever steps are required to back a non negotiable mind set. In many cases this mind set occurs when an individual feels strongly about ones point of view and takes a non compromising stance on the issue. This strategy should be used to assume a firm position; for example when there is not enough time to conduct an ongoing discussion about a given subject. However, in the event that this strategy is used excessively, some team members could consider themselves losers and try to retaliate. Additionally, it is also possible that team members could become too frustrated to voice their points of view or will no longer even try to participate (Fisher, et al., 1991). If this strategy is under used, one may be perceived as lacking assertiveness or be seen as being vulnerable. Explore The Explore strategy is used when team members or other teams develop and investigate new ideas together. • 54. Definition Of Burden And Standard Of Proof Burden and Standard of Proof The expression of burden of proof is the obligation to prove. There are two principal kinds of burden, legal burden and the evidential burden. The legal burden The legal burden is referred as the burden of proof. The legal burden may be defined as the obligation imposed on a party by a rule of law to prove a fact in issue. Generally the claimant will bear the legal burden of proving each element of his claim, in which he has to present his evidence first. Thus, the claimant can only discharge his legal burden of proof once the defendant has presented his case. However, the claimant will not know if they have been successful in discharging the legal burden until the judge has given the judgement at the very end of the case. Failure to discharge the burden of proof, the claimant will not have a case to put forward. The evidential burden As Lord Bingham has stated in Sheldrake , an evidential burden is not a burden of proof. It is a burden of raising, on the evidence in the case, an issue as to the matter in question fit for consideration by the tribunal of fact . The evidential burden is referred as the burden of adducing evidence and the duty of passing the judge. In a criminal trial, the prosecution will bear the evidential burden. The prosecution must adduce sufficient evidence for the judge to not withdraw the case. Thus, even if the prosecution has discharged the evidential evidence, it does not mean the accused will lose.
