I have created a
questionnaire, asking 30
people in my target
audience questions based
on the ideas I have for my
music video. This will help
me to understand what
my target likes in a music
video, what they would
prefer to see and also the
videos they enjoy
watching, and their ideas
for my music videos.

Narrative
Performance
A narrative is the way the diverse
features in a story are structured to
make a meaningful story. As more
than 50% of the people who we
questioned said they preferred a
music video with a narrative we
decided to include a narrative in
our music video about a girl who
abuses drugs and alcohol because
she is heartbroken. We have
decided to do this as it is what is
common between teenagers as
they are more likely to understand
the message of the video.

A genre is a style or grouping of art, music,
or literature. The original idea for my video in
terms of Genre was Rap, however I wanted
to know what genre my target audience
enjoyed more therefore, I asked them about
their favourite genre picking from a list of 5
which included: Pop, Hip-Hop, Rap, Rhythm
and Blues and Grime. 34% of people choose
the R&B genre and 21% choose the Hip-Hop
Genre, therefore I decided to do a video that
is R&B Genre. In order to carter for people in
this different genres.
This is a R&B music
video- Don’t by Bryson
Tiller.

A visual is an image, piece of film, or
demonstration used to show or
accompany something. As 83% of
the people we questioned said they
wanted a realistic visual, we
decided to do a music video that
includes a realistic visual. This is
because it makes it more relatable
for the audience and also sends
across a message to the audience.
Realistic visuals- Grenade by Bruno Mars.
Animated Visuals- Story of OJ by Jay-z.

To find out about the trendy music videos people have been
watching and what music videos teenagers enjoy, I decided to use
my questionnaire to ask them about 5 music videos I think are most
known by young people and which was their favourite. The videos I
included were: Bryson Tiller- Sorry not Sorry, Beyoncé- Hold up,
Nicki Minaj- Pills and Potions, 21 Savage- Bank Account, and Sia-
Chandelier. Originally the music video I wanted to use was Nicki
Minaj- Pills and Potions, however after getting the results it was
obvious that young people didn’t enjoy these type of music
anymore, the most popular amongst my target audience was Bryson
Tiller – sorry not sorry. As a result of this I have decided the song I
will be using is Bryson Tiller – sorry not sorry.

LOCATION CHOICE.
The Home The Beach The Park The Club
The location is where the music video
will be set or situated. The main
locations I had in my questionnaire
was the home, the beach, the park
and the club. All these ideas I wanted
to feature in my music video, however
after getting audience feedback from
my target group, it was obvious that
most people liked videos that was set
in the home (53%) or in a house, also
the park was very popular at 17%,
while the beach and the club had the
lowest rating, therefore I wouldn’t be
using these locations as they are not
fit for my music video.
Locations from different music videos.
Ideasforourmusicvideo.
My final question for the audience was to describe their ideal music videos in a
couple of sentences. I took on this information and took out specific things that was
continuously said by majority of people who answered the questionnaire. These
included:
• A music video that was set in a house, also has nice locations
• A music video that had a high budget, therefore the use of good lighting, bright
colours, good costumes and makeup and incorporation of trends such as money,
alcohol and partying.
• A music video that was creative, accompanied by a good storyline/ narrative.
Using this I have gathered an idea of what my music video should look like and what it
should include to appeal to my target audience, although I might not have a high
budget for my music video through the use of props and Mise-en-scene, I will be able
to send across a message to my audience and create a music video that is enjoyable
for them.
