1. I gave my questionnaire to around 20 people aged 17-25, all with varied
music taste.

2. • I found that the just over half answered pop as their favorite genre (11
people) and all of these people watched narrative based music videos most.
• 8 people answered indie, alternative or rock music as their favorite genre
which is the category my chosen song is in- so these people will be my focus
group audience throughout my coursework.
• Most of these people watched concept music videos most and all of them
watched MTV rocks the most.
• 75% of people said they enjoyed the visual art as one of the reasons they
liked their favorite music video.
• Not many people said they watched performance music videos most
however, a lot of videos include performance with the other categories
included, with performance not being the main one.
3. • From doing this I have decided that a mostly concept based music video
would be best as this is the most popular category for people who like the
genre of music my song is in, as this is what my audience will be expecting
and will like best.
• I will break up the conceptual parts with elements of performance like Tame
Impala feels like we only go backwards.
• I want my music video to be something that would be shown on MTV rocks
so for further research I could watch the channel for inspiration in my own
video. This is because people who listened to the genre of music my song is
in watch MTV rocks the most, so I want to produce something that suits the
genre well.
4. • I also gave my questionnaire to around 15 people aged 50+.
• The music taste in my older category was very varied however indie and rock/metal were
the most popular favored genres.
• The people that answered indie preferred concept based music videos and those who
answered rock/metal answered that they watched performance based music videos the
most- this has consolidated my decision to make my own video part concept, part
performance.
• Most of the people I asked in the age category of 50+ did not watch any of the music
channels on my questionnaire and answered older videos such as Thriller or Bohemian
rhapsody as their favorite video- this shows that most of my older target audience will not
watch a music channel very often however, may sometimes enjoy them. Therefore I am
going to include a person from my older category in my focus group to find out more
about what they would like to see most in a video as the interview was not very helpful for
me when finding out what my older target audience like.
5. For a more specific audience feedback I am going to do a
focus group study with up to 5 people from Temples’
specific target audience.
