1. Audience Feedback
What have I learnt from my audience feedback?
This is media evaluation question three, I will be discussing who
my audience are, what I found out about what people like and what
I can make better in my media productions.
I have gone round collecting information from a
variety of different people
2. How I got my feedback
I uploaded my completed video to YouTube
and sent it to people via social networks for
example Twitter and Facebook. I then asked
them a series of questions and got them to
send their responses to me.
3. Oppositional and Negotiated
The negotiated readings for my
music video come from fans of
“Old School” hip-hop. They will
enjoy the fact that the track
chosen was one of Jay-Z’s old
track where he is aiming at
their audience niche.
People who seemed to take
an oppositional reading to
my music video seemed to
be parent of younger
children. They thought the
violence and drug
glorification was not suitable
for younger audiences so
they do not agree with it
being “celebrated” a
children may copy the
behaviour displayed.
4. Feedback 1
Jennifer, 36, New Zealand
I like the I think more variety is
needed in all the verses
as it seemed repetitive.
I would never find this
track myself, I would only
listen to it via other people
so it does not really appeal
to my interest in music.
5. Feedback 2
Tom, 18, Hackney
I enjoyed the
narrative. It really
caught my
attention as it
was well edited
I enjoyed the video however it's
not what I usually listen to.
The constant black
and white becomes
monotonous after a
while
6. Feedback 3
Josh, 17, Stoke Newington
I like the location of the production, the
Costumes, the comedy of the video, the props.
I would have changed some
of the shots that I saw.
It appeals to my interests in music video.
It's is part of my usual genre.
7. Feedback 4
Qasim, 17, Stamford Hill
I like how you have
used a special effects, I
really like these and do
not see them used
enough in Music Video
that I am interested in.
Being a huge fan of
underground music
videos I noticed that your
lip sync is not
perfect, This could irritate
fans.
Yes this does appeal to
my interest in music.
8. Feedback
I posted my video on many social network sites eg Facebook
Twitter and YouTube. I have shown four that I believe all have very
different interests in music. My feedback Four and Three Qasim
and Josh are my preferred reading, who I am trying to aim to
music production to. He Is in my primary target audience.
9. Target Audience
The first thing I was trying to discover from my audience
feedback was who my target audience are. By asking a large
range of people of different ages and backgrounds I was able
to make a rough estimate about who would be considered as
my primary audience. As outliers are always present as not
everyone in a psychographic and demographic group will enjoy
the same music. From the feedback I found that my main target
audience for my music production and the genre US Hip Hop is
16-26 year old males that are interested in American Gang
Culture and old school hip hop.
That is the primary audience but there is definitely a
secondary audience for adults who may have grow up
along side some of the music and the small
percentage of females interested into this genre of
music.
10. Location
I asked my audience to tell me one thing about my
video that they enjoyed, more than half my
audience, target audience or not said they really
enjoyed the location that I picked to film my
production. This being a Church. It was interesting
as it connoted contracting things to the lyrics of the
video and this represents the Hip Hop genre
effectively.
11. Cutaways
I also asked my audience to tell me one way they
believe I could improve my production and make it
more enjoyable for my viewers. Many said that
there was too much lip-syncing and I needed to
add more cutaways. This is something I need to
add to my video before my final draft.
