1. STAR IMAGE
A representation of a celebrity that is fabricated through the media texts
of promotion, publicity, television programs, and criticism.

2. WHY?
Without Star image, many artists would not be successful as they are now.
Directors and producers give stars fashionable clothes and lifestyles so
people will perceive them as ‘cool’. For example, a celebrity will be told to
go to a particular bar or club then come out at a certain time with a
model, so tabloids can photograph them. This means they’ll be seen in
newspapers and magazines and people will start to notice them.

3. MILES KANE
 Before he was in the limelight, the media needed a cool 18 year old musician.
Miles Kane was a young man who wore old T-shirts and baggy jeans.
 They found Miles Kane and gave him a leather jacket and fashionable
clothes. He was told to be seen dating model Agyness Deyn and places to be.
Designer clothes and a cool lifestyle make young people look up to him so his
music becomes more popular with 14-18 year olds.
 He became friends with Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys, a popular
indie rock band which increased his status within the genre. Having friends in the

limelight shows emotions so people feel they can relate to him and he’s a friendly,
fun person.

4. KINGS OF LEON
 When they first formed, Kings of Leon wore out of fashion

clothes, had long hair and beards. Magazine companies told them
they wouldn’t be put on the front of a magazine because of the way
they looked.
 It took a long time for them to relent and cut their hair. They
started wearing check shirts, leather and denim jackets, and skinny
jeans. They then started becoming more popular and successful in the
music industry as more people liked their image.

5. JACK WHITE
 Jack white wears clothes to suit his band name and is often seen wearing
the same styles and colours.
 He wears red, white and black, he also has black hair and pale skin. All
of the White Stripes album covers are red and white so he matches his image
to his career. This means people recognise him and his style becomes a brand or
logo that goes with the White Stripe's music.
 There was also confusion about his relationship with Meg White as they
told people they were brother and sister but also hinted rumours that they were
married. This gave them coverage in media texts and interests people to find
out more about them.
