The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. What is your age?
This question helped us to discover who was
responding to our survey. Our results are good
as all of them come from the same category as
our Target Audience age range. Something I
found particularly interesting was that everyone
who replied was young, therefore we have
learned that these are the people we really
need to impress and attract to our video as they
are the ones in which get involved with surveys,
comments and reviews of our work. Because
everyone who answered is in out Target
Audience criteria, it means that we have now an
advanced insight into our audience which will
be really helpful when we are trying to appeal
to them and make them attract them to our
video.
3. What gender are you?
We were glad to discover that of
those that answered there was an
equal split between male and
female responses. This helps as it
means we can see if their answers
and expectations are similar, and
means we can use our results to
help craft our video which will
hopefully appeal to all of those
who took part in our survey and
more. This also gives us a really
accurate interpretation of who we
need to appeal to and impress and
allows us to know what we need to
do to really appeal to both sexes.
4. What is your favourite genre of music
and why?
I found this set of results really interesting,
although all of our responses were from those
who we are trying to appeal to so far, nobody
on this question chose the Pop Genre as their
favourite. To us this could've meant we are
going to find it really difficult, however I
think this is going to be a challenge that my
team and I can take on. We now have to
attract those who wouldn't usually listen to
this song and watch the video to us, and make
our video enjoyable for anyone who has to
watch. From research and our knowledge
alone, we know that Pop music is one of the
most popular music genres out there,
therefore although nobody in the survey chose
it as their favourite, we know it will be a hit
still.
5. What aspects of music videos do you
enjoy?
I am really excited by the results of 'What Aspects
Of Music Videos DO You Like?' - this is because we
have a variety of answers to what appeals to
different people. The answers were split between
Performance, Illustrative Lyrical and Narrative. This
is good for us as it means almost anything which we
do will be a hit with at least one of the many
people who fall into any of these categories. We
almost fall into all of the categories, as we are
going to be including an element of Performance
through some dance, lip-syncing and acting in the
video. The main category our video falls around is
Narrative, which is good as it can be stretched
easily to almost include all of the different
categories. One of my initial ideas was to include a
few lyrics on the screen here and there, therefore I
am keen to follow through with this idea as if it
means it draws more people to our video it's
something we should definitely do.
6. Why do you watch music videos?
Knowing that the majority of our audience
watch videos for entertainment and also
interest is a really good result. For us, this
means we really need to work hard to make
our video entertaining (which should be fine
with our narrative ideas), and we have to
make it enjoyable to watch too, which it
should be anyway if we are working
correctly am also happy to know that people
watch music videos for interest too as it
means that people are intrigued to watch
videos when they see them, therefore we
need to now intrigue people to watch our
video, which again is something we should
be doing anyway, therefore it shouldn't be
too hard to do so.
7. What do you enjoy most about music
videos? On the question of questions we thought it
would be good to know what people enjoy
about music videos. From our results we
know that we need to include 2 things for
definite in our video but possibly even more
to entertain those who didn't enter our
survey too. The thing we learned from this is
that people do enjoy being entertained
during a music video, which is good for us as
it means a narrative music video will be
entertaining if carried out correctly. We
know now that our audience enjoy looking
at fashion in music videos, therefore we
need to make sure those in our video are
fashionable and appeal/relate to our target
audience. Finally, artist performance, this is
the only trouble as we wont be seeing much
of this as the artist will only really be lip-
syncing.
8. Summary of our music video, does it
work? We put a brief summary of what our video will
be about and asked those who took part in our
survey if they would enjoy it and if they think it
is a good idea, in which everyone replied saying
yes they do believe this is a good idea. The
following question asked if they think the idea
would match our music video, and we also got a
positive response to this too, with everyone
saying yes. This therefore is a go ahead as it
means that our audience approve of what we
are doing, but also means that we need to work
hard to impress those who will be watching our
video and have heard about it. The only
problem we have been faced with so far is
getting the party scene looking right, with the
correct lighting and with everyone behaving
how they should be to fit the storyline and
environment, therefore we have work to do and
rules that need to be made clear.
9. Would you watch our music video and
why?
We wanted to know if people
would watch our video and why.
We got a positive response in
that everyone who took part in
the survey would watch the
video, which means at this
point we have been selling our
video really well and have
excited them for the release of
our video, we therefore need to
make sure that we impress
those who responded in our
survey.
10. How can we approve upon our video?
We wanted to know from our
audience what they would deem
as a good idea for our video, and
we got results which we really
wanted - not all of them gave us
an improvement, however we
now know that we need to
include a wide variety of shots
and angles to keep people
watching, we need to make it not
too cliché, as it will not stand out
and cliché isn't always a positive
thing, and also try and mix it up
rather than just have one big
party scene.
