EVALUATION QUESTION THREE
What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Throughout the process of creating our production package, from inception to completion,
collecting and analysing audience feedback was an important
part of our work. To begin with we had just our artist but
could only hazard a guess at what our target audience would
be like, so we decided to attempt to establish/ identify our
target audience. We predicted that our audience would be
predominantly of the 17-25 age category, but not exclusively,
as we felt older listeners may form part of our audience as
well. We also predicted that we would have slightly more
males than females listening to this type of music and this was
proved to be correct in the adjacent picture.

Once we had identified our audience, we could target them with more specific questions via
questionnaires, surveys and verbal appraisals. This helped us to shape and tailor our
production package towards our target audience. However whilst we wanted to aim it at
our target audience, we didnโ€™t want to exclude other viewers from our production package,
so we tried to ensure that our video didnโ€™t exclude any viewers when watching it.

Our audience feedback helped us immensely to develop our knowledge of our target
audience and also helped us to shape our music video and print productions to meet our
target audienceโ€™s likes and demands. For example, our audience told us that our video
would be better without lyrics, and this was an overwhelming verdict, which confirmed our
views.

Through receiving mostly verbal appraisal from students within the college, we incorporated
their ideas and our own when planning how our music video would unfold. This was
extremely useful, as it gave us a broader scope of ideas as to what could be involved within
our video, and so we shaped the plan of how our music video was going to work. This was
useful when shooting the music video, as it had given us a specific idea of what we had
wanted to shoot, and so shooting the video was efficient and was all completed within one
day.

Once we began editing, we took more verbal ideas from fellow students and discussed how
to edit it at great length, before commencing the editing. For example, students told us we
should match the video to the beat. The target audience expected the music video to be
tailored around the actual track, and this is something we aimed for. Editing was a long
process and during this we got back a large piece of audience research, which involved me
circulating questionnaires around the college to our target audience (predominantly
students) and getting their feedback. This feedback helped us hugely whilst editing, as many
of our target audience expected a fast paced video for example. We catered to this and
eventually produced a rough edit of our music video. Once this was produced, we circulated
a second, online questionnaire via survey monkey and also uploaded our video to YouTube.
This second questionnaire was useful in obtaining feedback, and the feedback was generally
positive towards our video, and it indicated to me and Jordan that our video was appealing
towards our target audience and so we felt changing it drastically would be pointless.
Disappointingly, our YouTube video generated over 150 views, but only received one
comment on the actual video, and so we felt this was useless, however the video did receive
6 likes and 0 dislikes so therefore we felt that once again, feedback was generally good
towards our video. This feedback meant that we didnโ€™t alter our video massively; however
we did make slight changes in response to comments made by the audience. We also sent a
link of our video to our artist (Mirrored Theory) and his response was positive, so we were
pleased as we wanted to produce a video that he felt was appropriate for the video.

Overall, we realised the importance of audience feedback very quickly, as wanted to
produce a video that our target audience would enjoy, and therefore we were pleased with
the level of feedback we received, and we felt that the feedback we received was very
positive, for the most part, and so without this crucial feedback, our package would not
have turned out as well as it did.
