At the beginning of our research and planning, we decided to create a questionnaire which would tell us
more about our audience’s likes and dislikes. This provided us with answers which we reflected on while
making our final ideas. They helped pick out our audience’s favourite things about music videos and songs.
This was my evaluation of the
results I got from this question:
-From this question, I found out that 44%
of our target audience have answered that
their favourite genre of music is R&B. 34%
of the audience have answered that their
favourite music genre is Pop, 16% for Rock,
4% for Technical and 2% for classical.
Bearing in mind that our target audience is
between the age groups of 13-30 years
old, it was obvious that the majority
wouldn’t have chosen Classical as their
favourite music genre. What we found out
from this questionnaire is that our primary
target audience is 10% more interested in
R&B music than our secondary audience in
Pop music. This is, in my opinion, is going
to help us choose the type of artist that
we would work with for our music video,
as we would have to consider their other
styles of music. We have to ensure that
the artist we choose performs mostly R&B
music, yet also have Pop hints in their
style of music.
From this question we found out the exact percentage which tells us about the favourite music
video genres of our target audience. My evaluations beginning evaluations are under the image
of the paichart. We later on however reflected on these results and we decided that we are
going to create a pop genre music video. Even though our 44% of our target audience said that
they would prefer us to create an R&B music video and at first we decided to create an R&B
music video, at the end we decided to change it and to go for our secondary audience’s decision
which was 34% for a Pop genre. We decided to do this because after coming up with all of our
ideas- the continuation of the horror sequence from AS, we decided that a Pop genre music
video will mostly suit our horror concept. We decided that our idea is worth the risk, as the
percentage of the target audience who wanted to see a pop music video was not a low
percentage.
However, as you can see from this question our top percentage (40%) was that our audience wanted
our video to be narrative based. This was a positive as we reflected on this audience’s suggestion as
our main idea to narrate a story which communicated the continuation of the horror sequence from AS.
We also got similar feedback from our first focused group:
This is another way that we learned that our audience would like us to include narrative in our
video. However we took this idea and we expanded on it by basing our whole music video on a
narrative. Also in this comment, they have stated that they would like the video to include abstract
features which is also something we put our heads around and made this mostly relevant to our use
of make up and props (smoke bombs, make up, bath bombs, zipper face etc.)This feedback
reflection made us base our antagonist as the abstract, non-realistic character in the narrative of
the video.
Throughout the year and throughout the process of producing a music video, a digipak and an advert, I received a lot of teacher’s feedback
This feedback mostly helped me understand that the process and planning of a production is as important as the final production itself.
I found out the importance of researching
into the industry from this feedback. It
helped me understand that in order to
create a successful and high quality product
(music video) you would have to be aware
of everything surrounding in the industry-
which reflected on the success of my final
products. I learned how to promote a
product and what to include in a product
that would be appealing to my target
audience.
It is very important to always work with the best people possible in the media industry. By my teacher, I
was advised to find the best possible actors and the best possible crew for the music video, this
professional environment would vitally affect the quality of the music video’s outcome. This is why we
payed close attention to the crew we picked. First of all, we chose ourselves as the actors because we are
A level Drama students, and we did a very good job in terms of acting in our AS horror sequence. For our
filming crew, we picked Colleen who is a working professional producer, and we picked our side kick as he
is also an ex performer from our horror sequence. Because of this feedback, we turned out to have a
professional crew which produced music video and ancillary task to a professional standard.
Our teacher’s feedback in terms of research
and planning also really helped me
personally to always plan my ideas. This
helped me spend more time on actually
thinking more about the creativity side of
the production of the video and took my
focus away of constantly thinking about how
we are going to film, where we are going to
film and what risks we would have to avoid.
This is a similar table which I later on did
before shooting, to make us aware where,
what and how we are filming certain scenes
at certain locations. This focused me more
on my organisation skills, which then made
shooting and editing much easier for me and
for my whole crew. This allowed us to focus
more on the quality of our
Positive Audience Feedback- Digipak From this questionnaire result, I learned that
the audience have recognised our depth of field
usage in the digipak to outline our distorted
themes. This recognition of theirs made me
realise that we have been clear enough through
the visuals and their representations in our
digipak, and we have achieved our main goal
which is to portray all of our disturbed themes
which make direct link to the music video of
“Look What You Made Me Do”.
Positive Audience Feedback- Music Video
The most common positive feedback we received from this questionnaire was about our disturbed filters and creative compositions. From this
comment I learned that our target audience must have liked something from every part of the video, as the whole video is based on filters and
camera compositions. Looking back to the editing process when my partner and I were debating about how many filters we should include in the
music video and if we should include any at all, I understand that this was a very creative idea to present the horror concept of our video and that
the product was successful because of this experiment.
Positive Audience Feedback- Digipak/Advert in relation to the Music Video
When I calculated this result from the
questionnaire, I realised that my main idea had
an effect on the audience. My partner and I
decided that we want to represent the artist of
the album Dabria as herself and not as the
villain of the music video. However, we wanted
to make a direct connection between her and
the antagonist of the music video, which is why
we used red bright lipstick to communicate this
idea. From this feedback, I learned that our
audience had recognised and interpreted the
make up of the artist this way. From this I
learned that the visual illustrations and the
connection between the artist and the
characteristic she plays are very important and
have to be presented in some sense.
Positive Audience Feedback- Music Video The overall rating of the video was very high
and in the questionnaire, not many people filled
in this question. But the ones who did suggested
that the lip-syncing was off at this specific
point.
From this audience feedback I learned that the lip-syncing is a very important quality feature of a music video which cannot be avoided. All of them stated
that because it was not a consistent problem throughout the video, they did not mind it as much, however without this error the video would have been
spotless. Reflecting on this feedback, I feel like next time when producing a product like this I will pay more attention to as small details as this one,
because as my audience pointed out, a small detail can make a very big difference in the quality of a product.

My partner and I decided that we want to represent the artist of the album Dabria as herself and not as the villain of the music video. However, we wanted to make a direct connection between her and the antagonist of the music video, which is why we used red bright lipstick to communicate this idea. From this feedback, I learned that our audience had recognised and interpreted the make up of the artist this way. From this I learned that the visual illustrations and the connection between the artist and the characteristic she plays are very important and have to be presented in some sense. Positive Audience Feedback- Music Video The overall rating of the video was very high and in the questionnaire, not many people filled in this question. But the ones who did suggested that the lip-syncing was off at this specific point. From this audience feedback I learned that the lip-syncing is a very important quality feature of a music video which cannot be avoided. All of them stated that because it was not a consistent problem throughout the video, they did not mind it as much, however without this error the video would have been spotless. Reflecting on this feedback, I feel like next time when producing a product like this I will pay more attention to as small details as this one, because as my audience pointed out, a small detail can make a very big difference in the quality of a product.
