June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Question 1
Are you male or female?
-Male= 45.45%
-Female= 54.55%
Due to my magazine now being more directly focused towards the female
gender, I should incorporate ideas that would appeal to them. However I
also need to make sure I am very detailed when picking ideas for the male
gender so my magazine is balanced and not biased to one gender.
Question 1
Male Female
3. Question 2
How old are you?
16-25= 42.42%
26-35= 27.27%
36+= 30.3%
Due to this, my magazine is most likely going to be more informal
so it relates to the younger audience. However I will add subtle
hints of formality due to the older audience being at a high
percentage.
Question 2
16-25 26-35 35+
4. Question 3
What colours appeal to you for a magazine cover?
Dark colours e.g. blacks, dark blues etc.= 24.24%
Lighter colours e.g. reds, yellows, blues, greens etc.= 36.36%
Prefer a variety= 39.39%
Within my magazine I will try to use a variety
of colour as most people prefer it. The colours
I’m going to use are primarily black, white and
blue.
5. Question 4
What music band(s) is your favourite?
-The Fray -Red hot chilli peppers
- Foo Fighters -Arctic Monkeys
- don't have one –One republic
- Artic Monkeys -Queen
- The kooks -Oasis
- Status Quo -Take That
- Daughtry -Vaccines
- Little mix -Sugar hill gang
- Slaves
-Nirvana
-Stereophonics
-Kings of Leon
-R&B
-Noel Gallagher and his flying birds
-Spice Girls
-Ed Sheeran
-Coldplay
Due to Foo Fighters being the most popular it would make sense to
try and incorporate them into the magazine to entice readers.
Although the genre is Indie, I will also mildly include other genres
so the magazine appears more appealing to other audiences.
Question 4
The Fray Foo Fighters
Don't have one Arctic Monkeys
The Kooks Status Quo
Daughtry Little Mix
Slaves Nirvana
Stereophonics Kings of Leon
R&B Noel Gallagher and his flying birds
Spice Girls Ed Sheeran
Coldplay Red Hot Chilli Peppers
One Republic Queen
Oasis Take That
Vaccines Sugar Hill Gang
6. Question 5
What genre of music is your favourite?
Pop= 36.36%
Indie= 24.24%
Rock= 18.18%
Rap= 9.09%
Classical= 3.03%
Other= 9.09%
The main focus of my magazine is Indie so most of the articles
will be about it. I will only lightly reference other genres as I
want the main focus of the magazine to be clear.
7. Question 6
How regularly do you buy music magazines?
Never= 72.73%
Once a month = 18.18%
Twice a month= 6.06%
3+ per month= 3.03
I will add social media links and website links to my magazine
due to most people not buying magazines as most people
gain their information off the internet.
8. Question 7
What price would you pay for a music magazine?
£1= 27.27%
£2= 33.33%
£3= 30.3%
£4+= 9.09%
The gauge of the price is between £2-£3. The price
was already going to be £2.50, so it is helpful to know
most people would buy it at around that price.
9. Question 8
How many pages would you be willing to read in a music magazine?
50-100= 78.13%
101-150= 15.63%
150+= 6.25%
The size of my magazine is going to be around
100 pages due to the magazines that I have
researched usually are around that size and
also due to the vast majority having that as a
preference.
10. Question 9
What band(s) don't you like?
- Blink182 -The vamps
- don't have one -Girl bands
- One Direction -Oasis
- The spice girls -Coldplay

- One Direction -One direction
- Boy bands -Courteeners
- The killers
- Busted
- Rock
- Boy bands
- Metallica
Most of the bands stated are from the pop genre, so when I stated that I
would loosely reference other genres e.g. articles etc. I will focus more on
other genres due to most people not liking pop bands.
Question 9
Boybands Pop One Direction Blink182
Don't know The Spice Girls Heavy metal K-Pop
The Vamps Girl Bands Oasis Coldplay
Slipknot Nickleback Jedward Courteeners
Wheatus All Time Low Pierce the veil The Killers
Busted Rock Metallica
11. Question 10
Do you prefer lighter or darker settings?
Lighter= 57.58%
Darker= 42.42%
I am going to use a mix of settings as a personal
preference, even though most people wanted light
settings. I believe black and white can make an image
more impactful.
12. Question 11
Would you like there to be competitions and prizes in a magazine?
Yes= 81.82%
No= 18.18%
This was an idea I already wanted to add in as an
incentive to help make people want to read the
magazine.
13. Question 12
Do you have any magazine subscriptions?
Yes= 18.18%
No= 81.82%
This links back to the idea of social media and
website links as more people don’t subscribe to
magazines due to that information being
accessible on the internet.
14. Question 13
Would you read online magazines?
Yes= 78.79%
No= 21.21%
This brings me back to my before mentioned point about whether
or not people use social media or the internet to read magazines.
So it makes sense to add links to these so people can read the
magazine whenever.
15. Question 14
In a music magazine would you expect larger or smaller font for the main text?
Larger= 63.64%
Smaller= 36.36%
I am going to use larger font for
headlines so they stand out more
on the page. However for main
body text I am going to use a
smaller font so more information
can be fit on the page.
16. Question 15
Should front covers of music magazines use musical instruments?
Yes= 57.58%
No= 42.42%
My front cover will most likely contain a musical
instrument as I believe it is a signature indicator
of a music magazine according to the people who
answered the questionnaire.
17. Question 16
Would you prefer more text or more images in a music magazine?
More text= 39.39%
More images= 60.61%
My magazine will be more text based as I
prefer to read the articles rather than be
bombarded with images across the pages.
Even though a larger portion of people
prefer more images and less text.
18. Question 17
In a music magazine would you like to hear about new bands or about more well-known bands?
New bands= 15.15%
Well-known bands= 6.06%
Both= 78.79%
In my articles I am going to include both well-known and unknown bands as
this a common part within indie music magazines. Also it makes the
magazine seem more interesting as it doesn’t just stick to mainstream
artists.
19. Question 18
Which of these magazines would you associate most with the Indie genre?
NME= 53.13%
Q= 25%
The Fly= 12.5%
Clash = 3.13%
The Wire= 6.25%
I have been using magazines to help
with ideas for my own magazine, Q and
NME were the ones I was using the
most as they are the magazines people
associate most with the Indie genre.
20. Question 19
Would you expect the main image for the front cover of a music magazine to be famous?
Yes= 42.42%
No= 6.06%
Don't mind= 51.52%
The front cover of my magazine will not be of
a famous person as it helps spark interest in
the reader as they want to know who it is?
and why they are on the cover?
21. Question 20
How often would you say you listen to Indie music?
Never= 24.24%
1-2 times a week= 21.21%
3-4 times a weeks= 21.21%
5+ times per week= 33.33%
This question was just to gauge how popular
Indie music is with people. In hindsight it
doesn’t help with the production of my
magazine very much.
