3. Looking at the layout of this article, I like the fact that the image of the star is a medium close-up and feature a guitar,
connoting the genre of metal which Black Sabbath falls in to. The medium close-up makes the audience feel as though the
artist is looking at them through direct appeal. The deep blacks and the monotone filter really favour the genre as well which
I really like; I might look at taking aspects of this article’s choice of editing when I think design and create my magazine article.
I also like the stand first’s position, as well as the way it links into the title of the article (headline) eventhough it’s a subtle
edit. The way that the text is embedded into a solid shape which overlays the image is something I originally wanted to use as
a design asset so I will definitely try implement this in. I don’t really like the fact that there’s a border which protrudes out of
the edge, it’s a design choice that I would like to stray away of eventhough it is used here in a magazine which follows a
similar genre. Although I am going to use a quote from the interview, I don’t really like the placement of the text and the size.
These quotes are supposed to be big, and pull people into reading more, therefore I feel as though I should make the
typeface bolder and bigger.

5. Although I plan to do a full interview, something that I found interesting in this article was the fact that quotes were
integrated into sort of a commentary over the artist’s career and life. This would be a good thing to do because then the
article would seem unique, instead of just including speech between the interviewer and the interviewee, and it would allow
for sort of a creative commentary of the artist I am interviewing. Once again the image is monotone and there is guitar in the
picture, connoting the genre of the artist however I also like the way that the artist is looking away from the artist, and the
fact that it’s an action shot from a gig is something I like and might do. I don’t like the fact that there’s no background fill to
the text which in some ways can make it harder for the reader to look at, therefore I will make sure I have a typeface that is
easy to read and I will give it a background that is high in contrast with the text, similar to the other article. I like the fact that
the image gives factual information in the negative space at the bottom of the image, so I might try and give that to the
audience in my article. Other features I will include are the page number, as well as the band name at the top of the page, as
seen with “BLACK SABBATH” on the other article.

For my double-page spread article I am going to conduct an
interview with a musician. This musician is Anthony Atherton
who is the guitarist and lead singer of a band called “White
Mountain”, a psychedelic punk band. I chose Anthony because
his band fits into the genres I want to base a magazine around
meaning this will help attract an audience I want to appeal to,
therefore giving me a source of profit. Another reason I chose
this band is because it’s a small, unknown band which will be
great because that’s what my questionnaire participants wanted
from a magazine, smaller artists to attract their attention to so
they can have a broader range of bands to listen to. On the right
are the questions that I will be using to find out information
about Anthony and the band. I will be trying to pull out as much
information as possible to get as much out of him as that will
make a good read for my audience.
