develop or challenge
forms and conventions of
real media products?

My album cover has adhered to the pop-punk genres, by featuring my
artist wearing a beanie and a flannel. My artist is also featured wearing
dark make-up, in particular cat eyeliner.
Upon studying other front-women from pop-punk bands, I found that it
would be beneficial to include such details in order to connote the genre
further.
Dark make-up is another stereotype that comes from the ‘emo’ culture,
and therefore the audience will be familiar with this relating to the pop-
punk genre. The beanie and flannel are

How my homepage conforms
In terms of my website homepage, I have
featured images from the same photo shoot as
the one I featured within my digipak. This is a
common convention used within the music
business as a whole, as it advertises the album to
anyone viewing the website. This also shows
correlation between both the digipak and the
website, making it easier for the audience to
identify the band.
How my
music video
conforms
Upon studying various over
music videos from the pop-
punk genre, I found that
featuring various shots on
the instruments the band
were playing was
important, to emphasise
the beat of the song for the
audience. I therefore
conformed to the
conventions associated
with my genre by doing so.
This also helped connote
my genre further to my
audience, as this is
something they would
stereotypically expect from
a pop-punk music video.
I also incorporated the
element of featuring lots of
close-ups on the lead
singer. This is something
commonly used within pop-
punk music videos, as the
audience can really
sympathise with the lead
singer and their emotions,
thus giving them a deeper
connection with both the
song and the artist. In
relation to star theory, they
may choose to idolise the
artist, because it appears as
if they have nothing to hide
through their direct mode
of address.
I also incorporated
‘head banging’
which is another
stereotype used
within music videos
of the pop-punk
genre when the
beat drops. This is
again used to create
an emotional
relationship
between the
audience and the
artist, as they are
really feeling the
song and expressing
their emotions to
you.
I also made references to
other bands from similar
genres through clothing
choices. This is
stereotypically done
within the majority of
music videos from the
pop-punk genre and
other hybrids of the rock
genre itself. I decided to
include this, as this
illustrates to the audience
that the artist is
essentially ‘just like
them’, and listens to the
same bands that they
enjoy listening to. It
creates a virtual
relationship between the
artist and the audience,
as they will feel like they
can ‘relate’ to her as a
person.
How my music video
subverts
The pop-punk genre is
still a very male
populated ‘scene’, and
therefore females are still
usually represented as
the ‘weak’ ones, despite
the increase in female
lead singers. I obviously
chose to continue the use
of a female lead singer, as
I feel like it is more
current with what’s going
on today in regards to
women’s rights and so
forth.
Furthermore, I also
subverted by
making the woman
the ‘powerful’ one
in the relationship.
Despite the sad
tone of the song
that helps the
audience
sympathise with
her, she is the one
that deletes his
number and moves
on.

  • 9. In terms of my website homepage, I have featured images from the same photo shoot as the one I featured within my digipak. This is a common convention used within the music business as a whole, as it advertises the album to anyone viewing the website. This also shows correlation between both the digipak and the website, making it easier for the audience to identify the band.

Upon studying various over music videos from the pop- punk genre, I found that featuring various shots on the instruments the band were playing was important, to emphasise the beat of the song for the audience. I therefore conformed to the conventions associated with my genre by doing so. This also helped connote my genre further to my audience, as this is something they would stereotypically expect from a pop-punk music video.
  • 13. I also incorporated the element of featuring lots of close-ups on the lead singer. This is something commonly used within pop- punk music videos, as the audience can really sympathise with the lead singer and their emotions, thus giving them a deeper connection with both the song and the artist. In relation to star theory, they may choose to idolise the artist, because it appears as if they have nothing to hide through their direct mode of address.
  • 14. I also incorporated ‘head banging’ which is another stereotype used within music videos of the pop-punk genre when the beat drops. This is again used to create an emotional relationship between the audience and the artist, as they are really feeling the song and expressing their emotions to you.
  • 15. I also made references to other bands from similar genres through clothing choices. This is stereotypically done within the majority of music videos from the pop-punk genre and other hybrids of the rock genre itself. I decided to include this, as this illustrates to the audience that the artist is essentially ‘just like them’, and listens to the same bands that they enjoy listening to. It creates a virtual relationship between the artist and the audience, as they will feel like they can ‘relate’ to her as a person.

  • 17. The pop-punk genre is still a very male populated ‘scene’, and therefore females are still usually represented as the ‘weak’ ones, despite the increase in female lead singers. I obviously chose to continue the use of a female lead singer, as I feel like it is more current with what’s going on today in regards to women’s rights and so forth.
  • 18. Furthermore, I also subverted by making the woman the ‘powerful’ one in the relationship. Despite the sad tone of the song that helps the audience sympathise with her, she is the one that deletes his number and moves on.
