1. Evaluation Q2 - How
effective is the

2. Conventions of album art
The conventions of mainstream album art is something
that I was going for because of the pop/punk genre of my
music video that will also fit with my digipack. Many British
artists use British themes in their album art to reflect who
they are and also what the music video is about. Many
mainstream artists use British themes in their album art
much like I have done. In my first panel I use the colour
red to show the British theme but also the beach hut
shows this. I also kept to a theme for my digipack that went
with my music video. Dreaming vs reality. Keeping in with
this theme meant that the audience would be able to
understand the music video. I also use the same colour
palette throughout my digipack to show a sense of style
and order. The use of red is also used in the mainstream
media. This promotes a sense of Britishness and also the
colour attracts attention. The digipack look that I was going
for was clean cut and simple much like other artists, doing
this will simplify it almost so my music video will be
understood by many
3. Text
In mainstream media the text of the digipack can say a lot on the
style of the music video and also how that artist wants to get their
music video across. As it is the words that will market your music
video it is very important. The font that I went for is called D K
JOHN BROWN. This font has a handwritten element to it so I felt
that it looked more personal so our demographic would be able to
relate and maybe feel more of a connection on some level. I also
felt that it fit with the pop vibe that I was going for. Style of the text
is also important for artists for example in this picture on the left is
the text that Bring Me The Horizon use, the text promotes a dark
edge to them because of the way it is laid out, it’s messy in a stylish
way and promotes their rock music, you wouldn’t see Taylor Swift
with this style for example because it does not fit with her image.
Doing every single little thing that fits with an artist's style including
mine promotes an image that hopefully more people will be
attracted too because of the style of it promoting the type of music
you do and therefore creating a target audience
4. My first panel for my digipack I wanted the
background to be bright and eye catching. This is
the first panel so it has to be the one that will
demonstrate the music video and show what it is
about. The most dominant feature in the music
video is the colours. The music video is about
dreams & reality and how the main female
performer is trying to escape into her dreams as her
reality is so bad. The use of the colour in the
background and the darker clothes she is wearing
represents the music video because she is the one
going through the dark times and her clothes
represent this, then behind her is this burst of
colour. The fact that the colour is behind her also
shows that she is not able to see the potential of
her life as all the colour of her life is behind her. The
bright colour behind our main performer is a beach
hut which links to our music video as I have put in
many british references. The beach hut is a
constant use in the music video as many are shown
in a montage of her dreams. The use of the colour
red is also significant as many companies that have
a demographic towards teenagers use red as that
colour is linked with youthfulness which is the
demographic I am also aiming at
5. My second panel that I have created shows the
emotions that our main performer is going
through, the emotions are simply happiness
and sadness. The happiness is shown in the
dreams that she is having and the sadness is
shown in her reality. This panel fits with my
music video because of the emotions, The
checkered pattern that is carried on throughout
this panel and shows a confusion through the
pattern. The changing of colours also shows
the use of black and white that I use
throughout my music video to represent how
she is feeling. I decided to put black bars at the
sides to show that it is her reality that is
keeping her from feeling bored and sad.
Having the black bars at the sides are there to
represent her feelings that are keeping her
from having the dreams that she wants to
come true
6. This is my third panel for my digi pack. The way in
which this conforms to my music video is the walking.
Many times in my music video we see the main
performer walking across us or away from us, doing
this shows that she is disconnecting with her reality
and entering a new one. The background of the third
panel gives of a sense of dreaming by the cloud like
nature of the colour and the texture of the picture. I
have also stuck with the theme of repetition to go in
the centre of my digipack.
The only time that we see the main performer facing
the audience is when she is dreaming, Doing this
shows that she does not want to face her reality and
therefore shows that her dreams are an escape
7. This is my fourth panel for my digipack. The way that
this fits with my music video is the fact of the shell. The
motif of the shell is used throughout the music video to
show a difference between dreams and reality. I have
also promoted the idea of looking as she is looking off
into the the distance supposedly towards her dreams.
Also many mainstream artists only put half of their face
in the frame, this can give of a sense of uncertainty and
lack of confidence within the character which is exactly
what our character is feeling in the reality of the music
video.
The red of the lipstick also connotes back to the
first panel. The use of the colour red also links
back to the notion of dreaming that the colour
red is associated with on the digipack
8. On my magazine advert I wanted to carry on the theme of the
beach because I feel that it is a significant part of my music
video as it ends with the beach but also starts at the beach. I
wanted everything very centered also as I felt that it went well
with the balance, which is happy and sad. I have used the
same photo that I used in my panel one because it will connect
the digipack and the magazine advert together therefore
enhancing the band's image. The pier in the background also
links in with the constant use of the beach to carry on a theme
and also links back to shots like this.
