1. My Music Video Idea/Concept/Message

The song in which I am creating a music video for is ‘SameDrugs’ by Chance
the Rapper. Using my research, I had found a way to make this video satisfying
for myself, the consumer, the hip hop industry and the artist. . I havecome up
with severalways to combine his artistry, my creativity and hip hop
conventions within one video.
This song is a story abouta girl and boy who werefriends long ago, but no
longer sharethe same interests, as the girl has changed in personality. The
artist uses references fromthe story Peter Pan to illustrate this idea. The title
of the song being ‘SameDrugs’ may lead the audience to believe that it is
about drugs, however it should not be confused, as the word drugs areused to
representthe interests in which they share.
My music video illustrates the true meaning of the song, however contains few
aspects of drugs which the artist does not convey within the meaning of the
song. Itillustrates a friendship which crumbles as one party is only in the
friendship becauseshe truly loves the antagonist. Even though the artist does
not associatethe song with romance; linking it with the Peter Pan references, I
wanted to show that Wendy actually loved Peter, but Peter could not love her
back because of his lack of emotion. So, my video amplifies the ‘cover’ in which
the song uses, rather than its hidden meaning.
What would make this music video iconic is the use of POV shot nearly
throughoutthe video. Ithas been done before, however amongsthip hop
music videos, the iconic POV music video is Kanye West – All Falls Down.
Considering the artist’s closepersonallink to KanyeWest, it seems
appropriate. Using POV shot I am defeating the convention of simplicity within
hip hop music videos. But every hip hop music video has its creative touch or
eye-catching aspectwithin it, and the use of this singleshot within my music
video, has made it simplistic as well as creative – thus following conventions.
