Social Media Adoption among the Banking Sector in Sri Lanka: Paper presented ...Parakum Pathirana
Despite social media having a remarkable success in many parts of the world in different contexts such as promoting brands to changing state leaders, the adoption by the banking sector to provide financial services remains relatively low across many parts of the world.
Many banking customers are still reluctant to consume financial services via social media. In fact, how banks should adopt social media still remains unanswered, possibly due to the fluidity of social media compared to the rigidness of the banking sector. The aim of this paper is to devise a framework to better understand the determinants of social media adoption among the banking sector based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM).

This descriptive correlational study was conducted to determine the social media utilization and its effects on student’s academic performance in selected secondary schools in the Division of Northern Samar. This study utilized purposive sampling in determining the 1,144 Grade 10 student respondent from the following schools in Northern Samar Balicuatro area Allen National High School, San Isidro Agro Industrial High School, The majority of the students own only one 1 social media account. The findings also revealed that the students had good academic performance in all subjects, namely English, Mathematics, Science, Filipino, Araling Panlipunan, MAPEH, ESP, and TVE. This resulted in an overall proficient academic performance. It was also found out that the best positive effect of using social media is its effectiveness in communicating with their friends. On the other hand, one of the prominent negative effects of social media on students is that social media is addictive and a challenge that affects their academic life. The findings also revealed that the profile and the social media utilization have no significant relationship with the students’ academic performance. The top school related problem that emerged is the reduced learning and research capabilities when utilizing social media. In general, the school related problems encountered by the students using social media were described as very alarming. The top personal problem is that in social media, the students are more prone to cyber bullying. Evan Horowitz: Making Millions Through Adult Domains and an Affiliate Networkdomainsherpa
Watch the full interview: http://domainsherpa.com/evan-horowitz
Evan Horowitz learned about the Internet and honed his sales expertise early in his career. Doing so helped him develop one of the leading domain name brokerages and create an affiliate network worth millions in annual sales. Along the way, Horowitz invented the system and method for Affiliate Pooling, a patent that last year alone brought in $1 million in licensing fees.
In this show, Horowitz shares how he built his businesses, how he enforces his patent, and his views for the future of the domain name industry.

Some people complain that if you did not buy domains in the mid-1990s you missed the window of opportunity. But what if you could hand register 12,450 domain names today for $7.87 each and build a million-dollar business?
Adam Hawley, president of Zipsurance.com, did exactly that. By leasing insurance-related domain names and providing associated services, Hawley connects insurance agents to clients and is on track to bring in more than $1 million in sales in 2012.

Global Survey Across 32 Countries Shows Worker Appetite for Social Tools is I...Microsoft
Global survey across 32 countries shows worker appetite for social tools is increasing, even if it means spending their own money and defying organizational policy to use the technology.
Nearly half of employees report that social tools at work help increase their productivity, but more than 30 percent of companies underestimate the value of these tools and often restrict their use, according to new Microsoft research released today.
The survey, conducted for Microsoft Corp. by research firm Ipsos among 9,908 information workers in 32 countries, also found that 39 percent of employees feel there isn’t enough collaboration in their workplaces, and 40 percent believe social tools help foster better teamwork. More surprisingly, 31 percent said they are willing to spend their own money to buy social tools.
“Employees are already bringing their own devices into their workplaces, but now they are increasingly bringing their own services as well,” said Charlene Li, founder and analyst at Altimeter Group, a firm that studies social media and other technology trends. “Employees expect to work differently, with tools that feel more modern and connected, but are also reflective of how they interact in their personal lives. Enterprise social represents a new way to work, and organizations embracing these tools are improving collaboration, speeding customer responses and creating competitive advantages.”
The research also found distinct differences between countries, sectors and genders as they relate to the levels of productivity, collaboration and communication tools used in today’s workplace.

It is based on initial descriptive results of a 2022 global survey of over 7,000 internet users on their workplaces prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, during the pandemic, and currently. Questions also address the cybersecurity issues they faced during each stage of the pandemic. The rise of working from home and hybrid working are clear along with declines in office work and the use of decentralised offices. The survey was designed by our research team at the Global Centre for Cybersecurity Capacity Building at the University of Oxford in collaboration with Grape Data, a new and innovative survey research organisation, which fielded the survey.

33. The Idea of a Quello Forum
Early Discussion of a Quello User Forum
Revisiting this Idea as:
• Local Initially, rather than National or Global
• Forum rather ‘user forum’: more generic, able to
evolve as an identity develops
• Self-Funded (idea to float to potential
supporters)
