QUANTUM COMPUTING
WHAT IS QUANTUM COMPUTING ?
Quantum computing is the area of study focused on developing
computer technology based on the principles of quantum theory,
which explains the nature and behavior of energy and matter on
the quantum (atomic and subatomic) level.
Computers based on this theory are so smaller and faster than
digital computers.
REQUIREMENTS OF QUANTUM COMPUTING
 Many kinds of numerical problems like algorithms
cannot be solved using digital computers.
 Requirement of faster technology
 Requirement of smaller calculating devices
 National security require advance supercomputers
 Require advanced technology for civilian, business,
trade, environmental.
HOW IT WORKS
In a 3-bit register of a classical computer one of
the eight numbers can be stored, but in a quantum
register all eight numbers can be stored in one
register at the same time and operated on
simultaneously.
Techniques:-
 Ion traps
 Resonant cavities
 Quantum dots
 Free space photon interactions
 Quantum holography
 Logic gates
THE DIFFERENCE
 Transistors
 Bits – binary digits
(0 or 1)
 Silicon chip
 Slower speed
 Quantum mechanical
phenomena
 Qubits – (0, 1 or both
together)
 Atoms
 Faster speed
Digital Computer Quantum Computer
WHAT IS QUBIT ?
A qubit is a quantum bit.
As a bit is the basic unit of information in a
classical computer, a qubit is the basic unit of
information in a quantum computer.
DEVELOPING STEPS
In October 2012, Noble Prizes were presented to
David J. Wineland and Serge Haroche for their
basic work on understanding the quantum world,
which may help to make quantum computing
possible.
In 2015, researchers of University of New South
Wales build a quantum logic gate in Silicon for
the first time.
CONTRIBUTION OF INDIA
The specifically dedicated to experimental
Quantum Computing are
 Dr. Rajamani Vijayaghavan
 Raman Research Institute
 IISc Institute
And besides this, India is producing a lot of
energetic students in this sector which are
researching and studying in top class Universities
of the world.
QUANTUM COMPUTING AND FUTURE…
