Our preliminary task focused on continuity through a character moving and sitting across from another for a dialogue exchange. This demonstrated match-on-action, shot reverse shot, and the 180-degree rule. For our full film opening sequence, we adapted elements from the preliminary task, using the 180-degree rule in establishing town scenes but changing it later to confuse viewers during an ending chaos scene. We learned from mistakes in the preliminary task to use filmmaking techniques more effectively in the main film.

1. Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary
task, do you feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full product?
The brief of the preliminary task was to create a film that completely focuses
on keeping continuity. The storyline had to be that a character moved across
a room, sat in a chair opposite to the character and exchanged lines of
dialogue with eachother. This was to demonstrate our ability of using match-
on-action, shot reverse shot and the 180 degree rule. Our main task was to
make a opening sequence for a short film for a maximum of two minutes.
We used elements from our preliminary task to create this, and adapted it
into the final task. We used the 180-degree rule in the opening scenes of the
town, but changed it at the end of the film to confuse and dazzle the
audience in the chaos at the end of the film. We learnt and reflected on
some of the mistakes made during our preliminary exercise to use some of
the features more effectively in our main film. Some of the methods that we
used were similar to our preliminary task, as they follow typical film
conventions.
